No war of words between Bacarri Rambo, Da’Rick Rogers this time around

Remember when Da’Rick Rogers’ was a Georgia commitment? The wide receiver from Calhoun was actually committed to the Bulldogs for seven months, in fact. But, as we all know now, Rogers reneged on his commitment in January of 2010 and signed instead with Tennessee. And the Vols are especially happy about that these days.

Those of us who saw him play in high school aren’t surprised to see that Rogers is now the Vols’ leading receiver. I was covering college recruiting for the AJC at the time and I rated Rogers as the No. 1 prospect in the state that year, so I’ve always thought highly of his football abilities. He remains the best high school receiver I’ve ever personally watched.

Rambo

Rambo

Thanks in part to the loss of fellow receiver Justin Hunter to a season-ending knee injury in the Florida game, Rogers (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) is now quarterback Tyler Bray’s primary receiver. He is currently second in the SEC in receptions (27), receiving yards (442) and receptions per game (6.8). In the Vols’ last game against Buffalo, Rogers had 180 yards receiving, which was his third 100-plus game of 2011.

Back to Rogers’ flip-flop. If you’ll recall, it caused a brief war of words via social media between Rogers and Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo. It started a few days after national signing day in February of 2010 when Rambo posted a message to Rogers on his Facebook status.

  • “Bacarri Rambo thinks it’s messed up how all of UGA high school commitments back out on us but I’m telling you now when I catch you on the field I’m going to knock fire from you,” Rambo wrote
  • Rogers responded via Twitter:  “Who is Bacarri Rambo?”
  • Then from Rambo on Twitter: “Tell Darick ‘Pretty Boy’ Rogers he doesn’t have to know me but I bet he will feel me!! Lol”
  • Then from Rogers: “Don’t worry about me ha … that’s your choice … last time i checked a big hit =’s you getting knocked out.”
  • Rambo: “I compete against the best receiver in the nation everyday at practice. Why should I worry about that guy?”

Rambo was reminded of that exchange with Rogers after Georgia’s practice Tuesday night.

“We haven’t said anything to each other [this year],” Rambo said. “I got over it. That’s in the past and I haven’t said anything else to him about that.”

Rogers concurred. Asked if he’d sent any private or public messages to Rambo, Rogers said, “No, none at all,” he said

You could say Rambo got the better end of the deal in last year’s game between Georgia and Tennessee between the hedges. The Bulldogs won 41-14, Rogers had just one catch for minus-3 yards and Rambo had an interception.

Rambo resisted the urge to gloat and spoke very respectfully about Rogers this time around.

“That’s in the past, too,” Rambo said of last year’s game. “Hopefully I can get some more interceptions this week. We’ve just got to do a great job of holding that guy. He has matured and gotten more experience and been more productive this season and he has a good quarterback throwing the ball to him. So we have to be heads up and slow those two down and try to keep him from catching balls and making big plays. So we’ve got a tough test this week.”

I talked to Rogers (along with Bray) on a teleconference call later this morning. CLICK HERE to read my Q&A with Rogers.

hahahaha exactly Tampa. Everyone knows the BCS and its “formula” are a joke and will eventually die off.

No ACC will play for a NC for the next 5 years at least, only exception would be FSU a few years down the line when that new class gets to be upperclassmen.

Absolutely Joke. That’s what I am talking about. His most exciting offense is hysterical. If it was so exciting, not only would Bobby Dork stadium sell out every game but so would freaking NAVY.

And you wont beat Va Tech or Clemson so keep dreaming. I can picture you know, your 2 inch thick glasses, engineering books all neat on the shelf, pocket protector, short sleeve button down shirt, cargo shorts, and bottle of vaseline to your left next to the computer.

What a sad life for a techie. Isnt it a rule of thumb that if you go to tech, you might as well cut it off bc your going to be a virgin till 40???

its easy to defend, they are always homerun passes, so commit 9-10 to the run and then make sure that the safeties pick up anyone running downfield.

Fred: last 4 years under CPJ (including this one), UGA has most definitely NOT been better than tech. Only one has won a conference title and went to a BCS bowl since CPJ started. Hint: not UGAy.

And what is the head to head record during that time period asshat? 3-1 UGA? You really ARE a sad little man. I’m sorry I even responded to you, you troll.

Save bama and Lsu, UGA has one of the best defenses in the sec in terms of stopping the run. Well make UT one dimensional and then Boykin and company will wear down the Vols receivers. Jarvis Jones and possibly now Ray Drew will get pressure on Bray and UGA will force some turnovers. If Murray doesnt keep UT in the game with stupid decisions (see MISS ST game) the Dawgs should roll. ill say 28-7. Crowell with two rushing TDs and the defense will get a TD as well.

for those who DO NOT pay attention, UGA lost in Knoxville 2007, it was AFTER that game those Dawgs tore through the remainders.

I really respect what Coach Dooley has done up at UT. That being said, I still hope my Bulldogs go get a win in Knoxville. Tough place to play against a good team… will be Georgia’s toughest test aside from Florida (in terms of our remaining games).

I think if Georgia can run the ball consistently and NOT have stupid turnovers and penalties, UGA should be able to win… but don’t expect a blowout, folks, it will be a nail-biter. Then I hope later this season, Tennessee beats the living s*** out of South Carolina.

By the way, for the record… D’Rick got in trouble at SEVERAL high schools…Calhoun is just the one that overlooked it. His deal to come from Atlanta to Darlington Prep was shady… then going to Calhoun was shady… and the underhanded dealings by Daddy Nance was repulsive. FYI, Nash Nance couldn’t play for South Montana Jr. College, much less an SEC school, so I hope Daddy Nance is proud, seeing his boy hold Tyler Bray’s clipboard for four years. All three of those individuals are arrogant, entitled pains in the butt… I hope they all fall flat on their faces. The ONLY reason I don’t hate Tennessee as much as Florida, Auburn, and Tech is because Derek Dooley is a classy young man.

The Rambo/Rogers drama was a sign of immaturity from both of them. They are two of the most important players for their respective teams this week. Should be fun to watch. While Georgia mourns the loss of Da’Rick from within its state borders Tennessee says, “Yall can just keep Marlon Brown. He didn’t turn out to be much.”

TampaxDawg: all of the computer rankings (like 5-6 of them) are averaged, and that is 1/3 of the BCS ranking. 1/3 is the harris poll, and the last 1/3 is the USA Today coaches poll. So yes, the coaches poll is WAY more valuable than any of the computer rankings.

I know this is difficult for you to understand. Reread 50 times and you’ll get it.

This cracks me up about the “vaunted” SEC:

Missouri hoped to join the Big Ten last year but the league instead chose Nebraska. The university official said the Big Ten remains Missouri’s top choice but that conference “has no interest.”

“That’s what’s left,” the official said, referring to the SEC.

Why doesn’t Tech just do the right thing and rejoin the SEC?

I for one wouldn’t mind another tune up game that would also count as a conference win.
