Da'Rick Rogers cruises into the end zone for a touchdown against Buffalo, one of six he has scored this season. (AP photo)
Remember when Da’Rick Rogers’ was a Georgia commitment? The wide receiver from Calhoun was actually committed to the Bulldogs for seven months, in fact. But, as we all know now, Rogers reneged on his commitment in January of 2010 and signed instead with Tennessee. And the Vols are especially happy about that these days.
Those of us who saw him play in high school aren’t surprised to see that Rogers is now the Vols’ leading receiver. I was covering college recruiting for the AJC at the time and I rated Rogers as the No. 1 prospect in the state that year, so I’ve always thought highly of his football abilities. He remains the best high school receiver I’ve ever personally watched.

Rambo
Thanks in part to the loss of fellow receiver Justin Hunter to a season-ending knee injury in the Florida game, Rogers (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) is now quarterback Tyler Bray’s primary receiver. He is currently second in the SEC in receptions (27), receiving yards (442) and receptions per game (6.8). In the Vols’ last game against Buffalo, Rogers had 180 yards receiving, which was his third 100-plus game of 2011.
Back to Rogers’ flip-flop. If you’ll recall, it caused a brief war of words via social media between Rogers and Georgia safety Bacarri Rambo. It started a few days after national signing day in February of 2010 when Rambo posted a message to Rogers on his Facebook status.
Rambo was reminded of that exchange with Rogers after Georgia’s practice Tuesday night.
“We haven’t said anything to each other [this year],” Rambo said. “I got over it. That’s in the past and I haven’t said anything else to him about that.”
Rogers concurred. Asked if he’d sent any private or public messages to Rambo, Rogers said, “No, none at all,” he said
You could say Rambo got the better end of the deal in last year’s game between Georgia and Tennessee between the hedges. The Bulldogs won 41-14, Rogers had just one catch for minus-3 yards and Rambo had an interception.
Rambo resisted the urge to gloat and spoke very respectfully about Rogers this time around.
“That’s in the past, too,” Rambo said of last year’s game. “Hopefully I can get some more interceptions this week. We’ve just got to do a great job of holding that guy. He has matured and gotten more experience and been more productive this season and he has a good quarterback throwing the ball to him. So we have to be heads up and slow those two down and try to keep him from catching balls and making big plays. So we’ve got a tough test this week.”
I talked to Rogers (along with Bray) on a teleconference call later this morning. CLICK HERE to read my Q&A with Rogers.

at least you can remember when Tech was #7….that only happens to the mutts before the season starts

Can you possibly be any more less factual than that? Do you just not know how to use google or is lying your thing?

This just in, Flat Tire: the AP disqualifies GT from its rankings due to small stadium and poor attendance! UGA automatically gets promoted to #7!

TampaDawg…The reporter didn’t ask Commings if UGA needed Da’Rick. He offered all of that up by himself. Meaning…of course Commings didn’t have to say that UGA needed Da’Rick or that UGA’s receivers suck…he simply could have done what most do…that is, to either say “Yeah Da’Rick is a good receiver” or simply say nothing at all.

Tampa, is lying your thing, or can you not understand what you read?
UNC was #25 in the Coaches Poll (see my link), which is used in the BCS formula. Thank you.

Here’s an idea
Why dont you put on that GT sign there on I-85 in downtown ATL
Come see the irrelevant #13 ranked GT most exciting offense in the country Sat
Bobby Bu Shay Stadium might get half way filled for the first time since UGA came to town

Good Lord GT Joe, you say reading is fundamental. But with three polls there and only one has UNC dangling by a thread (who had not played anyone either by the way), then let’s let the polls lye as they may. In week 6, they don’t mean a freaking thing. Hold on to hope little fella, but at years end, no GT.

WDE…and I’m not saying that Bray is in the Luck category. Of course upper-classman are going to get a lot of talk. Murray and Bray are both sophmores…and a LOT of people are saying that Bray is the best quarterback in SEC. Buck Belue even said yesterday that he thinks Bray throws the ball better than anybody in the country.

@Tampa Dawg: i’m a dawg fan, but I cheer for the home boys form Ga Tech every game of the year that they aren’t playing the Dawgs or another SEC team. I watch them as well. Yeah, the teams they have played so far haven’t been exactly the ‘best” but they’ve really looked good. That idiot coach added some passing to his option and it’s been tripping teams up. What? They PASS the ball too?
We’ll see what happens when they get to what passes for good teams in that weak sister conference. I’m betting the bugs will win, except maybe for Clemson. They (Clemson) actually look like they have a team this year for a change. October 29th will be test day for the bugs if they don’t choke before then.

Where did I lie GT Joke? Nobody cares about your week 6 polls. They don’t matter. Bring them up again around week 11 or 12 and then they matter. At this point in the season, they matter more to the team playing you than they do to anyone else.

Seriously? 2009 got as high as number 13, 2008 got as high as 6, and 2007 finished the season number 4. And at least when our team wins a conference title, we don’t have to later vacate wins and give the title back.

Just a fan….you are joining the debate a bit late. I am not touting anything regarding how good Bray is. I am simply repeating that, regardless of what sarcastic comments you wish to make regarding the competition he has faced, a lot of people around the nation are saying that Bray is the best QB in the SEC.
Now…if you wish to use your logic about not winning against quality competition, then a lot of teams in the country must not be that good…including UGA.

It’s simple math. GT is half the size, half the alumni, so half the attendance. Who cares if we are in Atlanta. By that stupid logic, UGA would only pull in 10,000 fans in that tiny cesspool called AThens.
