LB Christian Robinson ‘ready to go;’ special teams changes expected

ATHENS – Greetings from Sanford Stadium.

It’s an absolutely gorgeous day for football. Cool temperatures and not a cloud in the sky. Pretty breezy, though, as Blair Walsh can attest.

I spent a long time watching the senior place-kicker in pregame warmups. He’s already missed five field goals this season — the same amount he had missed the previous two combined. But he seemed to be dialed in well. It’ll be a stiff wind going into the west end zone so keep an eye on that.

Had a brief exchange with linebacker Christian Robinson as he made his way to the locker room after the “Dawg Walk.” He said he’s “ready to go” and “I’m playing today.” Not a surprise. He practiced all week with a tight wrap on the injured ankle that kept himout the last two games. He told me Wednesday he thought he’d be good for 15 to plays at least so I suspect he’ll get about that many. But Michael Gilliard and Amarlo Herrera are set to start again at inside linebacker.

Another thing to keep your eye on today is Georgia’s punt team. Hearing you’ll see some major changes there, both in formation and in personnel. The Bulldogs are giving up a league worst 11.1 yards per return and would have had two returned for touchdowns on them against Ole Miss last week if one had not been nullified by penalty. Look for more frontline players to be plugged in and Georgia to go to more of a spread formation.

Wide receiver Marlon Brown (ankle) is ready to go but Rantavious Wooten (concussion) is not. Also, cornerback Damian Swann (groin) is out for a second week.

Is anyone else sick of Crowell and Mitchell jumping up after anything and celebrating? Anyone else think they should just run/ catch the ball then get back to the huddle?

I’m not asking them to look cool, Richard. I’m asking them to not try to draw a celebration penalty. Besides, I’m their age, so I can’t refer to them as kids, but rather as peers. But, yeah, I agree, they’re talented on an unbelievable scale. I’m excited about them

Richt commented at the half that Murray was getting knocked around too much. Is Sammuel a better blocker than Crowell? If so, why now use him to block on deep pass plays? Crowell made no effect to block the Miss. State player who sacked Murray 1st time. Cannot complain too much with UGA is leading 21 to 3 at the half. But there are too many mistakes and UGA keep you on pins and needles.

Said the 1st sack, think it was the 1st pick thrown. About Crowell blocking for Murray, wonder if it a mental thing. He does so well carrying the ball avoiding contact. Prehaps he is having a hard time adjusting to making contact.

First off: why is there so much press about Christian Robinson?? The AJC acts like he’s some integral part of the defense or something. Not sure what the fascination is all about.

Murray looked lousy today. Not sure what the 3 INT’s were about. I also don’t like this trend of the team going stagnant in the 3rd quarter.

But the Dawgs did what I expected them to do vs. MSU. They should win the next 2 vs. Tennessee and Vandy, before we have the big showdown in Jax. How the Gators perform the next few weeks will determine what kind of team they really have.

UGA man here. If we go with Murray all year. he will cost us more games than he ahs already. So far in his two starting years, he has cost UGA at least two games and he has no won ANY BIG games for UGA.

Today? He was horrific with THREE PICS and ONE FOR A TD!!!

HE FORCES it to Charles and it ends up in a disaster. QBs Hutson Mason and LeMay ought to get some PT …………………..Murray is at best a mid level SEC QB and will never win BIG at UGA.

Why? He is TOO SELF DRIVEN AND HE IS TOO EMOTIONAL. He PANICS.

Go Dogs.

Apparently some of “College Football Know-it-alls” don’t notice that over half of Murray’s interceptions was the result of deflected passes. He can’t throw the damn ball and catch it too. Even Orson had one bouce off him against Miss. State.

Hey, Coaches, why in the heck can’t you settle the celebrators down after they make a good play which is what they’re supposed to do anyway? They’re going to cost the team and it could happen in a critical situation! I know…..they’re just kids!! GO DAWGS!!!!
