UGA-Tennessee game time set; Crowell No. 2 freshman runner in nation

A  few quick items . . .

  • Georgia’s Oct. 8 game at Tennessee will start at 7 p.m. and be televised on one of the ESPN networks, it was announced today.

Whether the game will air on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU won’t be determined until after this week’s action. But in any case the 7 p.m. start at Neyland Stadium is firm, according to the SEC.

It will be UGA’s first night kickoff since the season opener against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.

Two other SEC games also are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts on Oct. 8 – Vanderbilt at Alabama and Auburn at Arkansas. Those games, plus Georgia-Tennessee, will be divvied up among the ESPN networks.

  • For the second time this season, the SEC honored Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell as its Freshman of the Week.

Crowell, who shared the honor with Kentucky running back Josh Clemons two weeks ago, claimed it outright this week for his performance at Ole Miss.

Crowell had season highs in carries (30) and yards (147) in Georgia’s 27-13 victory Saturday. His 30 carries were the most by a Georgia player since Knowshon Moreno’s 33 against Florida in 2007.

Averaging 102.8 yards rushing per game, Crowell ranks No. 2 in the nation among freshmen, behind only Bowling Green’s Anthon Samuel (107 yards rushing per game).

Crowell has surpassed 100 yards rushing in both of his SEC games.

  • Another Georgia player was recognized today for his performance at Ole Miss — safety Bacarri Rambo as the College Football Performance Awards  national Defensive Back of the Week.

Rambo had two interceptions against the Rebels, giving him four in the three games he has played this season — more picks than any Georgia player had in all of last season.  Rambo leads the NCAA in interceptions per game (1.33).

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Florida State cornerback and return specialist Greg Reid is in trouble again — this time with the police.

Reid was arrested at 2:30 a.m. Monday by Tallahassee police on charges of resisting arrest and perjury.

ACC blog
ESPN.com’s Heather Dinich writes about all things ACC in the conference blog.

• Blog network:
College Football Nation

The police report indicated Reid was trying to protect a friend from his hometown of Valdosta, Ga., who was being pursued for resisting arrest after being stopped earlier by police.

School officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Reid didn’t play in Saturday’s 35-30 loss at Clemson and was suspended the second game of the season for violating an unspecified team rule. Reid sat out the Clemson game with a bruised right knee he suffered in the 23-13 loss to Oklahoma on Sept. 17.

The 21-year-old led the nation in punt returns two years ago as a freshman.

Brooks, the reason why Malcome is not getting any carries is because he can not get off the trainers table during practice. He has been told more than a few times that you are going to have to play with pain in the SEC. He doesn’t practice at full because he always says his leg is bothering him.

“If IC stays healthy we have a realistic chance at 9-3 and a slight chance at 10-2.”

To go 9-3 means you can not lose more than one game against Miss St, Tenn, Florida, Auburn and Tech.

You will have to play and coach much better to beat the Gators. I don’t see that happening. Thus you would have to sweep the others. I don’t see that happening either.

I think 9-3 is a “slight chance.”

Very capable back. Seems to be progressing nicely as season goes on. Tennessee game could be his coming out party. Have to get past Tennessee then only Florida seperates Georgia from coming bakc to Atlanta in my opinion.

South Carolina would have to lose twice and Georgia can’t lose again the the SEC…..for Georgia to go to Atlanta. Georgia will have to beat Florida in JAX…..and Florida looks very good right now with Rainey and Demps in the backfield.

P.S. Crowell is the real deal. He has the gifted, innate running skills of the great ones before him. He should have a great career at Georgia if he keeps his head on straight…and Bobo continues to feed him the ball. He should have a field day against the Vols.

I don’t know for sure about Malcome, but someone recently told me that they heard Malcome was just in the coach’s doghouse over some remarks he made on twitter. They said he remarked that he should have left when the others left before the season. If that is true then it explains why he was slow to pick up the offense. Can you say “duh”? Anyway, it might be the injury thing. Sounded to me in the preseason that his groin injury was going to be one of those that required surgery because he never seemed to get over it. I know we could sure use a good back to back up Crowell, can’t expect a freshman to get 30 carries a week through a whole SEC season.

Tenure and experience can make you aware of your surroundings, but ability, athleticism, and talent will always find a way to create something.and make something happen. The dawgs have two problems. One, their offensive line is atrocious. Take a look at their first move on every play…..they stand straight up! Cardinal sin for an offensive lineman. We are either recruiting very soft players for our O-line or we are coaching them to stand up and gap block only. Watch Florida and LSU offensive lineman….they drive off the ball on every play and block multiple people on their way down field…..ruthless guys who love to wreak havoc…that’s the impression they give. For UGA….If our backs get through line of scrimmage…our offensive lineman are done….they just quit and watch. We don’t have any Max Jean’s around….nasty, get out of my face kind of guys. All our guys are passive. Have we coached them that way? Richt if you’re reading this (LOL)….I’ll coach your guys up to block someone, and if they don’t I’ll find the players who will……for half what you’re paying Friend.

Second, Aaron Murray ain’t playin so good. Unfortunately, the Ole Miss game was the game to sit him down in the first half, let HM get a start, and let Murray think about doin better (Richt would never do this because he’s not a risk taker). That opportunity is gone. If Murray doesn’t wake up, and our O-line keeps playin like girls, we wont win five more games. In the famous words of Pat Dye…Georgia ain’t man enough!!

nice game for Crowell.

I know that I will be viewed as being too negative, but all this talk of being 2-2 and in the SEC East hunt doesn’t make sense to me.

Granted, matchmatically, we are 2-2 and we are still in the SEC hunt at 1-1, but that doesn’t tell the story of where this program is.

For those who think I am just looking for the negative, tell me where I am wrong: We won 1 game this year so far against a legitimate opponent . While it is ALWAYS good to win a road SEC game, Ole Miss is likely the worst team in the SEC. This only proves that we AREN”T the worst team on the SEC. When we have played teams with equal or even NEAR equal talent, we lose. This goes back to 2009.

If we go 9-3 this year and one of the wins is against FL, I’ll admit that I was wrong about this team(and I hope I get a chance to do just that).

Going 2-2 1/3 of the way through the season is not an accomplishment to be boastful about, at least it didn’t use to be. Dooley beat Ole Miss, Ray Goff beat Ole Miss, and Donnan beat Ole Miss. Georgia SHOULD beat Ole Miss routinely.

I see a slight improvement over last year, but we aren’t yet to the level that Donnan had the team in his last two years when Richt took over. If we beat Ms State and TN, I think we might be back to 2000 level UGA the year before Richt took over.

Those that say that Richt is the only guy that can get 8 or 9 wins for Georgia and is worth the $3M. I respectfully disagree.

Washed Up and Caleb were cancers. Glad that they are gone. If they were here, UGA would be far worse off. Crowell is a plus …………… so far. If/when Malcom gets beyond the pain, he will add a huge bit of help to UGA’s rushing attack.

Ken Malcom is a bruiser and could easily augment Carlton and IC and Samuel and add maybe 35-40 yds more per game. He runs low and hard and squared up and tough. He is a big back that can do some late game damage as the other teams wears down.

The only SEC game that we have left that will be a toss up is the UF game. Miss State is not the team it was last year. They had to go to OT Saturday to beat LA Tech 26-20, I posted the reason UT won’t beat us. Vandy? They picked Garcia off 4 times and still lost 21-3. Auburn? Auburn has a terrible pass defense. Murray will carve them up and Kentucky is just plain sorry. UF will get beaten pretty good by Alabama and then have to face LSU in Baton Rouge. They will have 2 SEC losses by the time they get to Jacksonville. SC still has Auburn, Arkansas,, and UF still on their schedule and SC has been pretty unimpressive so far. UGA is still in good shape in the east.

Last season both Washaun and Caleb likely cost UGA wins because of their untimely fumbles. Their departure while unfortunate is a blessing. We’re moving the ball at will between the 20’s but get bogged down in the red zone. Not a good sign. And Richard Samuel is a waste of a handoff, if you ask me. As for UT and MSU, I worry more about MSU than UT. MSU however, has been playing worse than any team that was ranked high to start the year. They are veeeery beatable. UT I think gets beat down by UGA though. Not enough weapons on offense for them.

The UF game is the only real worry that I see. But like I said, after they have to play Auburn, Bama and LSU, they are going to be spent. That being said, if UF wins out on those 3, they will beat us and should be in line for the NC.

I don’t think they expected in the least bit what happened to them. Seeing them in person I can tell you that they are for real. Also, the Clemson OC is a student of Gus Malzon’s so in other words Auburn got beat with their own offense.

Spraying Leg humpers with the garden hose — well gosh dude, since kerryb was comparing AM to Brantley, I would rather have AM. And “midget”??? I didn’t know Drew Brees was a midget. Funny though, that guy is the same size as AM, listed at 6′1″ .. Mason is listed at 6′3″ .. and if you know anything about PLAYING QB, which I am sure you don’t, that 2 inch difference makes NO DIFFERENCE behind the line. Especially when any good group of D-lineman raise their hands right at the pass and become 7 foot giants. QBs look for passing lanes no matter what size they are.

ga gator, okay he threw ONE pick. That happens but he wasn’t THE reason they lost the game. There were several reasons we lost that game when we shouldn’t have. Was he covering on the punt team when they allowed a DE to run for a TD? Did he miss a field goal? Yes, he fumbled when he was blasted up the middle because 2 O-linemen allowed a DE to run right between them untouched. SAme thing that happened to Matt Ryan yesterday. He dropped back had the ball in his right hand and turned around and got hit immediately. Not many QB’s are going to hang on to the ball.

Regarding Murray, he also lost one of the best WR’s in the country and has a freshman and converted linebacker trying to pick up blitzes. kerryb

September 26th, 2011
4:50 pm

Unbelievavle, I don’t believe that that was the case with King and Ealey. UGA fans didn’t really build them up. King came along at the time Moreno was here so everyone was more focused on him. Ealey was a good rated RB but not a great. Those two just self destructed on their own. We turned our backs on one because he couldn’t stop getting arrest and the other because he couldn’t pass his classes and also wouldn’t go to traffic court when he was suppose to.

Agree guys, perhaps the ENTIRE corp of RB’s can equal Ealey’s 11 rushing touchdowns last year.

Ealey doubled Crowell’s td per carry average so far.

Ealey also averaged more ypc than Crowell his frosh year (5.7 ypc). Crowell’s not as strong as Ealey.

State this weekend, Tenn, Vandy and Au all capable of beating us. After watching Saturday, especially the 2nd half, Doesn’t look promising.

1. Every time I get down on Murray I feel much better after watching the rest of the college quarterbacks across the country. Let’s not forget that while he’s not perfect, he’s a pretty good player. However, I am awaiting his coming out party/statement win, and hopefully we’ll see that this year.

2. All of our focus should be on Miss. State. That game is all that matters this week. If we gain some momentum, allow many of these young dawgs to get some goo experience, we could end up coming a long way from the Dome. Confidence is huge for young kids. Let’s defend our home turf Saturday and worry about everything else thereafter.

dawg4ever, maybe all the clowns are the fair weathered fans who got spoiled his first seven years. You want a NC every year or other year and that sometimes not possible. Vince Dooley didn’t win one until he had been at UGA for 17 years. Richt’s career has started just like his. In the first 5 years Vince Dooley won 2 SEC titles. He didn’t win another for 8 years. I don’t know if they had as many fair weathered fans in the 60’s as they do now. You stay with a proven coach over the long haul. You don’t dump him when he has a couple of bad years. The worst thing that happened to Richt was that team in 2008. Preseason #1 that was totally destroyed by injuries and finished 10-3. Because everyone thought that we were going to win a title they started to bail on him then. All I have to say is SUCK IT UP. You can see by the young talent that this team is about to turn it around.

Crowell woofs too much after plays. He needs to trot back to the huddle and let his actions do the talking. Can you imagine a running back at Alabama behaving that way? That he allowed to behave in this manner says something about the entire program.

JB

September 26th, 2011
6:06 pm

kerryb…where to start. I don’t think most normal thinking fans expect a NC every year or other year. Being spoiled the first 7 years is not a rational statement. In big boy college football, what Richt did 3-4 years ago does not matter now. But, because of that, He did get this year to prove the naysayers wrong. At LSU or Bama or Florida, he would of been fired last year. Those schools WANT TO WIN NC and don’t have an emotional relationship with the head coach. Yes, the talent is there, the coaching isn’t. He wins 8 or 9 games this or he’s gone. Donnan has to be scratching his head. He was only guilty of being unpersonable.

Kirby is not a popular name on here, but he will be on the list. Reasons. Georgia Alum. He’s been around Saban long enough to copy how he runs a program. Kirby knows what it looks like, smells like, taste like, prepares like, works out like and hit and executes like. Bobo would not be the OC. SSIgator, you also brought up the 2009 and 2010 seasons. 2009 we had lost both Moreno and Stafford to the draft. Joe Cox showed why he was a career backup and Willie Martinez showed why he was not a DC. In 2010 we started at RFreshman at QB and was starting a new defensive scheme with players who did not know how to run it learning on the fly. This year we started out with two top teams to start the year. No one else including UF did that. Matter of fact UF NEVER does that. They will NEVER play a top out of conference team. EVER. They play a couple of cupcakes they can beat up on to start the year then play TN. So don’t knock us until your team and AD decides to show a set by doing that.

No doubt in my mind that they would have destroyed that LSU team in the SEC title game if they had a chance to play them. At the end of the year they were beating everyone by 30 points. Tell me how you go from the number 3 team in the country, have the #2 team lose their last game and you don’t move up to #2 and play for the title? They had 2 early losses that kept them out of that game. TN was the luckiest team on the planet that year. They had the 3 teams miss 4 FG’s that would have won games against them. Kentucky, USC, and Vandy.

Kinda amazing how a very modest road win against Ole Miss can shift the outlook and discussion of Georgia’s biggest liability: Mark Richt. Starting the season weakly, either 1-3 or 2-2, puts pee-pee in the well any year. It’s already ‘wait until next year’ time.
Neither team was prepared to play winning football when the season began. You cannot expect to be champions if you’re only ready to go in October. Coach is accountable for that.
You guys want to talk about running the table need to forget football, and take up billiards.
I am happy for some of our guys receiving individual attention for their play. Congratulations to them.Time to get after it. Don’t believe Ole Miss is on the schedule again this year.

Bears2008…All this “improvement” out of UGA because of wins over two awful teams? Wow…

Okay…again, if you shut down your oppenents main weapons, then you improve your chances of winning. No news flash there. However, it’s also not a news flash that UGA’s D-line has been far from dominant. So what makes you think that UGA is ready for that challenge?

Bears2008

They suppose to improve they are a young team..They dont suppose to regress against an inferior team do they?? Dont you have to beat the teams you are suppose to beat right? I mean really who has Fla really played so far? Tenn?? Kentucky?? Really?? Come on now those are the teams you are suppose to beat…Fla o-line would look dominant against a Kentucky, Tenn, FAU and the other cupcakes they have played thus far!! Is Fla ready for the challenge?

I dont trust Brantley at all with the game on the line…He has yet to show me that he is confident enough to handle everything Weis wants him to do with the offense…That spoon feeding him aint going to work against Bama, Carolina, UGA, LSU…They going to need alot more than Rainey and Demps against Bama this saturday…Now yall are really going to be tested…A “Gator” on Dawg blog come on man!!

Unbelievavle

Bears2008…UGA has looked bad against good teams, and better against really bad teams. Have they regressed against the bad teams…no….but have they improved? I don’t think you can say that, because, as you so aptly pointed out, you can’t judge a team when they play inferior opponents (although I would suggest that Tenn is by far a stronger opponent than Coastal Carolina or Ole Miss…and I wouldn’t call that team a cupcake…to do so is disingenious).

So thus far, I would say that FL is much more prepared for the challenge. The voters in the polls would seem to agree with me.

Also one more thing. Multiple punctuation marks are good occassionally when you are emphasizing a point. When you use them all the time, however, it means nothing.

We have played two teams in the top 25..Boise handled us…Carolina we shot ourselves in the foot…I’m trying to wrap my mind around who has those Gatas played?? Are those Gators ready for Bama? Fla is much more prepared for UGA when yall have to get through Bama go to Baton Rouge and then go to the Plains and then us? I do not see “yall” being prepared if anything maybe a little banged up prolly…

Bears2008…pick an arguement and stick with it please. You made the statement that UGA had improved, When I said that you had improved against bad teams, you started picking at FL’s schedule, and saying that you couldn’t judge a team when they play “inferior” teams. Now, you want to compare Tenn to Boise State and SC? Are you kidding?

Well…if you want to compare ok. UGA LOST to Boise State and SC. FL WON against Tenn. So are you saying that UGA is better than FL because you lost two games? (You only get to beat your chest for playing tough teams if you actually win one of those games).

Also, thanks for pointing out how much tougher FL’s schedule is than UGA’s. UGA has the easiest conference schedule I can remember in years.

Lastly, please don’t say that you didn’t lose to SC, but that you beat yourselves. The arguement is old and without merit.

You are saying that is UGA ready for yall but the point is are yall ready for UGA? No we did not beat Boise or Carolina. Duh! The real test is this week and the whole month of October. I dadgum sure aint comparing Boise to Tenn. I’m saying our first two games were way tougher than anyone you have played thus far that is what I am saying. How about this beat Bama, LSU, Auburn and then I’ll say Fla is a good team thanks. I know the tradition of Georgia football. Quite aware of that. I agree Richt has gotten “soft”the whole staff. Even the players but at the same time why gripe and moan about what is going on now. Those guys have an opportunity to turn things around granted they have an “easy” schedule. That is more pressure on Richt and Co. They know the remaining schedule favors them thats why they have to go 10-2. I think 9-3 just aint going to cut this year for Richt. Still hanging around, can’t wait to see what I’ve got to say ? I’m sorry, but I don’t see you saying anything that rings a bell with me, son. Nothing. College days stand out in my mind. Yours ? You appear to have no memories like ALL the rest of us. So, because a guy is smarter than you, you are resentful of that. Ok, I was given much. So what ? I am a fan just like you. I see you no longer are able to make it stick that I’m a Georgia tek fan, or any other team. Now, it is YOU saying that you don’t any longer, either, have any faith. Me ? I have my Faith. I spent most days at the Baptist Student Center when my full day was done. DISNEYdawgs.com such as you want to be the ring-leader of, are just slow on the up-take. You already have come around. You just don’t admit it to yourself. I actually read the blogs. This is my hobby. Yours ? Bitter. Bitter about everything. There are now 27 scholarships this coaching staff of Mark Richt was given much credit for giving to them who have LEFT this football program. Yes, 3 left early to the NFL. 1 of the 3 is Caleb Darnell King, who flunked out. Another you whined about all Summer that he come back AJ Green. The 3rd is Justin Houston, who flunked the drug test at the NFL combines. Any other group of the 27 you wish to discuss ? I didn’t think so. So, go tell the blog how great you are and how ungreat we are because YOU support Mark Richt, his coaches’ play calls Saturday, and how you don’t have any or much hope left in your soul. I will research and post the facts, for you to attempt to come in here and speak for me, annoyed that that which I say, you have no come-back for. Then, sign your post, that you want wins or a new staff – like there is a great team we play this season with 10 cupcakes including the bowl game – another nobody opponent in the bowl game as every season for Mark Richt, when the nation will see on the national stage the coaches who are # 4 best coaches in America. You know the problem with your posts ? Nothing. They are fine. So why the animosity when what you actually say is actually exactly what I say ? Because you didn’t say it. We lose to the teams who finish in the AP Poll Top 10 all 11 years. We lose to teams who finish in the AP Poll Top 25 all 11 years. We lose, for good measure, to teams who would not end up in the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over us, and for icing on that cake, we lose to teams who even with their win over us, don’t end up in the AP Poll Top 25. We have had a sorry bunch of coaches on Mark Richt’s coaching staff. We have wasted 27 Scholarships every one of which you ballyhooed Mark Richt getting here; now, they are ADDITION by ATTRITION all 27 we DON’T have for 2011 against this CUPCAKE SCHEDULE. First to my Fellow Dawgs and Atl sports fan and rooster stats really don’t matter at this point as the only thing that matters is the won-lost record. Georgia should be 3-1 and in the driver’s seat for the SEC East right now but are on the outside looking in because we gave the game to South Carolina. Coach Richt can talk all he wants but the simple truth is until HE gets the little things straightened out on his team. They will continue to underperform and give games away. Poor special team play showed its uggly head against Ole Miss fortunately as a whole we are a lot better than Ole Miss. Plus we have the crutch of having Mike BoBo as the offensive coordinator. The only way Crowell is going to get into shape is to play and to have him out on the field toting the rock. By the way that fumble against South Carolina was on Murray not Crowell so get your facts straight if you watch the replay Murray never put the ball in his gut as you are taught so Crowell never completely got his hands wrapped around the ball.

Next we can’t worry about anyone else other the next team on our schedule and that happens to be Miss State right now. This will be a tough game but hopefully all the little mental errors are out of our Dawgs system. They will come out and play a rough and tumble game and take care of business for a change. Anyway I hope so.

At some time UGA has to decide if they want to keep being an NFL mill by recruiting all those five star three year wonders or Coach up some three and four star players that spell TEAM into a championship. Richt gets so involved with the Staffords, Marinos, Greens and others that the staff depends too much on their individual star status that they overlook the recruiting of OL and DL. A Boise state has fifth year seniors. We are bragging about how many we send to the NFL not competing for a championship. I cannot understand why when Ogletree got hurt that Samuel was not returned to defense…If he had a complete year training and only a few weeks back at rb, how can a kid as smart as he forget the plays and step in and do the job. Richt has not gone into the same rut with Crowell. Not playing others to get him some rest. GA will lose one of the running back prospects because of the situation he has created this year. If he is still here next year. All these receivers will start going elsewhere too. As far as Ealey, he made a choice to refuse to do a workout regiment Joe T. gave him and MR told him he would help him find another school. It is simple as that.

Crowell only averages a little over 4 ysards a carry in the 4th quarter.

He’s really flabby and out of shape and gassed in the 4th quarter, Joe T’s conditioning didn’t work.

Ealey got 6.6 ypc in the 4th qrtr, Crowell’s at 4.5, Ealey was 50% better.

Ealey averaged a rush td per game last season, Crowell’s averaging 1/2 a rush td per game, so Ealey is 100% better there too.

Crowell a decent back, but he has a long way to go (50-100% improvements) to reach Ealey’s elite level.

“I noticed a lot of these kids, first time out of the country, all they wanted to do was party,” said Lauren Hook, a University of Georgia senior who spent the spring of 2010 in Spain. The embarrassing sight of fellow Georgia students stumbling drunkenly around Valencia belting out Bulldog fight songs pushed her to explore more on her own. She also appreciated program activities setting up meetings between American students and locals. Meeting a Spanish boyfriend also helped.”

Ole Rooster doesn’t care about Ealey, he simply dislikes UGA. I hope Ealey and Crowell both have great seasons, just happy For Ealey to be playing elsewhere. Let’s leave Rooster(former USC player….lol) to his senseless crowing and keep supporting our Dawgs!

Auburn took out 2 of MSU’s O-linemen and LSU injured a third one, so we have a shot. We have a shot. We have to take advantage of all of these good things that are happening for us.

We can win the Florida game IF Alabama and LSU beat them up badly enough. We have a shot.

Pray harder UGA fans… Pray harder! The Baby Jesus loves our coach, and so do I.

I love the idiotic predictions of failure that have gone on from day one for IC.

All he has done is follow instructions, workout, go to class, go to practice, play in the games and become a good solid player and play with bruised ribs.

Unless you know him, you should not comment on what he is doing or not doing. I don’t know him but my list includes things we can all see or have been told by the coaches that he is doing.

The rest of the stuff from the idiot haters is all speculation.

WVU hills are alive with rumors that UGA AD will can CMR for Dana Holgorsen at end of season. Big mistake for SEC to even consider inviting WVU to join. State of WVA is lacking in quality high school players and joining SEC would drain southern recruits to a team with nothing to offer in return. All their stars are from Ga,. and FLA. Better to take Missouri or UCF–better academics, bigger stadium and TV market, and decent fans.

@Bobby Bulldog

The SEC hasn’t invited anyone, but WVU is vastly superior to either of the schools that you mentioned regarding football. Anyone who discusses academic superiority on a football blog is a poser.

@harold

Dooley is an interim coach. Tennessee did long-term damage to their football program by keeping Phat Phil around for too long. Hopefully, Dooley won’t do as much damage as did Kiffin, and they can begin to rebuild after they hire a real Head Coach.

SEC should bring in The University of Hawaii, this would be a great road game and another win.

Really,Really! ACC passed up WVU because of academics, which has by far the lowest SATs in the BE. UGA has players from Missouri and FLa, but never any from WVU . UCF is the second largest school in the nation and beat UGA in a bowl.. Last year, with the same players as this year (recruited by Stewart) LSU beat WVU by only five points and WVU fans called for CBS’s head. Now WVU fans think Dana Dude is manna from heaven because they held LSU to a twenty-five point spread and squeezed out a touchdown win over Maryland ,who got stomped by Temple. Pleez, pleez, SEC , don’t ever invite WVU. I don’t ever want to have to go there to see the dawgs play. At least UGA is ranked in the top ten public schools in the nation.

this little nugget from Pete Fiutak @ collegefootballnews dot com this morning regarding upcoming coaching changes…” Georgia will lose at Tennessee, to Florida, and at Georgia Tech, and while Mark Richt will be done, he’ll quickly find a good job somewhere.”

true, he will lose those games, and, true, he’ll get another good job, probably in the acc, where his philosophy works better than it does in big-boy ball of sec…

Really?

@Bobby Bulldog

If you really are a Dawg fan, then your only legitimate concern should be in having to play against WVU.

Athletic conferences don’t have academic competitions. You sound like a GIT poser.

Bobby Bulldog

Realy, really1! my legit concern is WVU using SEC prestige to recruit southerners, when they have nothing to offer in return–except rowdy fans who threw urine from the upper decks on Auburn fans who followed their team there. I have been attending UGA sporting events since 1950 and just don’t think WVU would be a good fit in the SEC. Heck, your AD wouldn’t even let his own children attend WVU. He got them as far away from WVA as he could.

The SEC doesn’t need a whole new batch of hillbillies from WVU! There’s enough already at Tennessee. Get #14 either from the ACC (UVA or UNC) or Big 12 (Missouri or OU). No more rednecks!

Really, really! How unschooled you are in SEC and NCAA awards, many of which are based on a combination of academics and athletics, which help scholar athletes reach professional goals.

Those making the argument that Murray hasn’t won games against ranked opponents (i.e. big games) while also saying that Brantley is a better QB by comparison is smoking some heavy s***. I don’t recall that Brantley has beaten a ranked opponent to date either. Last season, the Gators lost to the only 5 ranked opponents that they faced: Bama, LSU, Miss. St., SC and FSU. Therefore, since you are so apt to point out Murray’s flaws (or the Dawgs for that matter), marinate on that fact. When the Gators start beating ranked opponents again, then you have something to crow about. Until then… worry about facing Bama and LSU, the only 2 ranked opponents that UF will face thus far this season. Something tells me that the streak will not be broken anytime soon. The Dawgs are down and have been for a while, but the Gators are facing the same “well…who have they beaten lately” dilemma. Over the last decade, I give the Gators major props for the amassed SEC championships & NC’s. However, we live in the here and now. The Gators haven’t proven anything thus far this season by starting off with cupcakes. The real test will be this wknd and next. Good luck…you will need it.
