UGA-Tennessee game time set; Crowell No. 2 freshman runner in nation

A  few quick items . . .

  • Georgia’s Oct. 8 game at Tennessee will start at 7 p.m. and be televised on one of the ESPN networks, it was announced today.

Whether the game will air on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU won’t be determined until after this week’s action. But in any case the 7 p.m. start at Neyland Stadium is firm, according to the SEC.

It will be UGA’s first night kickoff since the season opener against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.

Two other SEC games also are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts on Oct. 8 – Vanderbilt at Alabama and Auburn at Arkansas. Those games, plus Georgia-Tennessee, will be divvied up among the ESPN networks.

  • For the second time this season, the SEC honored Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell as its Freshman of the Week.

Crowell, who shared the honor with Kentucky running back Josh Clemons two weeks ago, claimed it outright this week for his performance at Ole Miss.

Crowell had season highs in carries (30) and yards (147) in Georgia’s 27-13 victory Saturday. His 30 carries were the most by a Georgia player since Knowshon Moreno’s 33 against Florida in 2007.

Averaging 102.8 yards rushing per game, Crowell ranks No. 2 in the nation among freshmen, behind only Bowling Green’s Anthon Samuel (107 yards rushing per game).

Crowell has surpassed 100 yards rushing in both of his SEC games.

  • Another Georgia player was recognized today for his performance at Ole Miss — safety Bacarri Rambo as the College Football Performance Awards  national Defensive Back of the Week.

Rambo had two interceptions against the Rebels, giving him four in the three games he has played this season — more picks than any Georgia player had in all of last season.  Rambo leads the NCAA in interceptions per game (1.33).

Richt is not going anywhere soon. SSigator, You Florida fans are spoiled worse than anyone. When that neurotic you have as a head coach and fat Charlie doesn’t take you anywhere you guys will be whining worse than anyone. You did it with Ron Zook. With the teams Meyer had you are spoiled worse than you were then.

Crowell woofs too much after plays. He needs to trot back to the huddle and let his actions do the talking. Can you imagine a running back at Alabama behaving that way? That he allowed to behave in this manner says something about the entire program.

kerryb…where to start. I don’t think most normal thinking fans expect a NC every year or other year. Being spoiled the first 7 years is not a rational statement. In big boy college football, what Richt did 3-4 years ago does not matter now. But, because of that, He did get this year to prove the naysayers wrong. At LSU or Bama or Florida, he would of been fired last year. Those schools WANT TO WIN NC and don’t have an emotional relationship with the head coach. Yes, the talent is there, the coaching isn’t. He wins 8 or 9 games this or he’s gone. Donnan has to be scratching his head. He was only guilty of being unpersonable.

I think Mike Adams got rid of Jim Donnan because of the real dope addicts he had on that team and would not get rid of them (ie. Quincy Carter)

1. Patterson from TCU
2. Kirby Smart from Bama

Kirby is not a popular name on here, but he will be on the list. Reasons. Georgia Alum. He’s been around Saban long enough to copy how he runs a program. Kirby knows what it looks like, smells like, taste like, prepares like, works out like and hit and executes like. Bobo would not be the OC. Who looked at a skinny kid named Nick Saban 25 years ago and thought he could coach? No one knew……….I say bring it.

1. Patterson-Just because you win in the MWC doesn’t mean you win in the SEC on a regular basis. Besides his teams have already been slapped for recruiting violations. Do we really want that?
2. Kirby Smart- How long has he been a DC? I’m just not sold in him.

Richt is not going anywhere. So it doesn’t matter anyway.

kerryb, you are a fellow Dawg and I respect you and your opinion, and you seem to put the team and University first. I admire that. But….You are a democrat living in the North Georgia mountains. I feel you are in the minority. I like Mark. I have met him 3 or 4 times. Getting rid of him is a gamble. I do feel he and Georgia need a change. We are loaded with talent and not beating ranked teams. Beating Coastal Carolina and Ole Miss impresses few. Five years ago, we beat SC and Boise without question. We weren’t even favored. The bloom is off the rose.

SSIgator, you also brought up the 2009 and 2010 seasons. 2009 we had lost both Moreno and Stafford to the draft. Joe Cox showed why he was a career backup and Willie Martinez showed why he was not a DC. In 2010 we started at RFreshman at QB and was starting a new defensive scheme with players who did not know how to run it learning on the fly. This year we started out with two top teams to start the year. No one else including UF did that. Matter of fact UF NEVER does that. They will NEVER play a top out of conference team. EVER. They play a couple of cupcakes they can beat up on to start the year then play TN. So don’t knock us until your team and AD decides to show a set by doing that.

OK Dawg fans, The SEC has played enough to rank all the teams 1-12. Where do ya’ll think the Dawgs stand…….Mine would be

12. Ole Miss..11. Kentucky…10 Tie Vandy and Georgia 9. Tenn.8. Auburn.7. Miss ST 6. South Carolina 5. Florida 4.-3, pick’em. Tied for 1st. Bama& LSU

What I’m saying is that UGA could schedule 3 cupcakes or tune ups before their first SEC game and could be undefeated going into Jacksonville but some seasons they don’t do that. I wish they had this year because of the young players that could have used a little more experience before the USC game. Might have made a difference.

evil empire, I think everyone knew at the end of the year in 2007 that no one wanted to play that Georgia team. No doubt in my mind that they would have destroyed that LSU team in the SEC title game if they had a chance to play them. At the end of the year they were beating everyone by 30 points. Tell me how you go from the number 3 team in the country, have the #2 team lose their last game and you don’t move up to #2 and play for the title? They had 2 early losses that kept them out of that game. TN was the luckiest team on the planet that year. They had the 3 teams miss 4 FG’s that would have won games against them. Kentucky, USC, and Vandy.

evil empire, wrong, UGA will NOT lose to UT. UT does not have enough talent. UGA will NOT lose to Auburn. They are playing them in Athens and Auburn has a terrible pass defense. Murray will probably throw for 400 yards in that game. Miss State is not as good as they were last year. Needed OT to beat LA Tech at home last Saturday. That just leaves the UF game which will be an interesting game.

the only thing i knew is that lsu would beat whoever showed up from the sec east to play them for the title; it just so happened to be tennessee. with uga’s history of choking on the big stage, you were better off beating up a hawaii team that was sent to the sugar bowl as a cherry for georgia.

evil empire, PLEASE, NO ONE wanted to play them at the end of the year in 2007. UGA was beating everyone by 30 points and LSU lost it’s last game before the title game at home to Arkansas. They then had to have a late game INT to beat a TN team that was not that good. UGA would have DESTROYED LSU in that game. No doubt.

I wasn’t so sure Crowell was for real. I’m glad I was wrong. He will be gone in by the end of next season. Crowell, I believe is playing for Crowell, and no one else. UGA is his spring board to the NFL
and he will bolt as soon as he can. He has to get bigger and stronger and I’m sure he will.
