UGA-Tennessee game time set; Crowell No. 2 freshman runner in nation

A  few quick items . . .

  • Georgia’s Oct. 8 game at Tennessee will start at 7 p.m. and be televised on one of the ESPN networks, it was announced today.

Whether the game will air on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU won’t be determined until after this week’s action. But in any case the 7 p.m. start at Neyland Stadium is firm, according to the SEC.

It will be UGA’s first night kickoff since the season opener against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.

Two other SEC games also are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts on Oct. 8 – Vanderbilt at Alabama and Auburn at Arkansas. Those games, plus Georgia-Tennessee, will be divvied up among the ESPN networks.

  • For the second time this season, the SEC honored Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell as its Freshman of the Week.

Crowell, who shared the honor with Kentucky running back Josh Clemons two weeks ago, claimed it outright this week for his performance at Ole Miss.

Crowell had season highs in carries (30) and yards (147) in Georgia’s 27-13 victory Saturday. His 30 carries were the most by a Georgia player since Knowshon Moreno’s 33 against Florida in 2007.

Averaging 102.8 yards rushing per game, Crowell ranks No. 2 in the nation among freshmen, behind only Bowling Green’s Anthon Samuel (107 yards rushing per game).

Crowell has surpassed 100 yards rushing in both of his SEC games.

  • Another Georgia player was recognized today for his performance at Ole Miss — safety Bacarri Rambo as the College Football Performance Awards  national Defensive Back of the Week.

Rambo had two interceptions against the Rebels, giving him four in the three games he has played this season — more picks than any Georgia player had in all of last season.  Rambo leads the NCAA in interceptions per game (1.33).

TampaDawg you dont let the hype of being a fan blind you from reality.
———————————————
Says the guy pushing Washaun Ealey (4 career 100 yard games at UGA) over Isaiah Crowell (2 100 yard games in his first 4 games ever in the SEC, neither against Coastal Carolina .. pulled at half time.)

As for reality, reality is what the record shows at the end of the year, not what your speculation from a haters stand point says.

If we had a line like Bama’s and almost any high school OC calling the game, he’s be leading the Nation in rushing of ALL backs. I think he can tote the mail, but he needs blocking. On DVR Sunday, I watched our OL against Ole Miss. We do not fire off the ball. We “stand up” and move no one when the ball is snapped. They get exposed again Saturday against a physical D.

The only SEC game that we have left that will be a toss up is the UF game. Miss State is not the team it was last year. They had to go to OT Saturday to beat LA Tech 26-20, I posted the reason UT won’t beat us. Vandy? They picked Garcia off 4 times and still lost 21-3. Auburn? Auburn has a terrible pass defense. Murray will carve them up and Kentucky is just plain sorry. UF will get beaten pretty good by Alabama and then have to face LSU in Baton Rouge. They will have 2 SEC losses by the time they get to Jacksonville. SC still has Auburn, Arkansas,, and UF still on their schedule and SC has been pretty unimpressive so far. UGA is still in good shape in the east.

Hey Rooster didn’t Ealey funble inside the 5 yd line against South Carolina and Miss. State last yr… didn’t he have the same type of fumble against Kentucky his freshman yr.. I’ll take crowell any day over Ealey

Florida has a tall order the next two weeks. don’t have a RB to move the ball on those guys( Bama& LSU) and Brantley just not a take control of the game type guy. Beast of the East is on here and he will tell you the next two weeks look grim.

Tampa Dawg if Ealey would have went to a D-1 school this year he would have to set out a year you moron.
———————-
First off, Ealey being a Jr, could have done it and still played his senior season and most likely would have to play on a bigger stage. Second, check your grammar and your facts about the person before calling someone a moron. The guy was not that good.

Rooster @ 2:20pm This Washaun vs Crowell comparison; you left out one stat., the most inopportune fumbles. Fumbles inside the opponent’s 5 yd. line. Last season both Washaun and Caleb likely cost UGA wins because of their untimely fumbles. Their departure while unfortunate is a blessing. The only real good game they played was the win against Tech two years and that started the “we run Georgia” crap. You could never count on them being available because of one stupid reason or another. They thought too highly of themselves.

Nobody has the RB to run over Bama. However, a good balanced offense will beat them. Despite the score in the 1st half Arkansas looked decent despite being no threat to run and were too one dimensional and run out of horses. Saban is too clever for one dimensional

“Ken Malcom is a bruiser and could easily augment Carlton and IC and Samuel and add maybe 35-40 yds more per game. ” I believe that if Malcome was actually healthy, there would be no Samuel at RB and he would have started the season at LB. He could then still be used as a 4th emergency RB is necessary.

I think you hit the nail on the head .. hey Rooster, how’s the FCS gig going? Nah, then he would actually remember his own fumbles in critical situations enough to not call out someone else on one. But wait, Washaun was that stupid to do just that. MAYBE HE IS MARK!

Guys, I have news for you. We ain’t beating Florida. They are a well oiled machine and have too many play makers. We may keep it within 2 touchdowns. I don’t know how in the world they keep getting all this mad speed. I hope I am wrong, but you guys that think Florida is a “make or break” game for Richt……I feel for ya. We don’t have the horses this year to beat Florida IMO.

The strength or lack of for TN is likely a determining factor of Florida. The Gators whipped TN like a rented mule. Of course Bama might expose FL as a good or a bad team this week

I’m just watching the teams play, both theirs and ours. We are a step slower than they are. If our D stands up and plays the game of their lives and keep Demps and Rainey from reaching the corners much, we may have a chance Weiss will just dump it off and let them do their thing. I just don’t see it happening for us on a consistant enough basis. Hope I’m spectacularly wrong, though.

We have the speed on defense to keep up with the little scat backs for UF. By then we should have Ogletree and Robinson back for a defense that has played pretty good without them.

Was anyone else just a bit concerned when Ole Miss went up 6-0 on their first drive and it was called back for a holding penalty?

I really feel for Walsh. Missing from 48 is no great sin, but it looks like he has lost his “swing”. Hope he can shake it off and kick like he has in the past.

Really wish we had played Mason for a series in the first half. I think we will go into next season with only 1 QB that has had any meaningful snaps.

Freshman, Herera (spelling?) looks like he had a good game. Love that we used the tight ends in this one and hope to see more of that.

UF will lose another 4 games this season. They have not played any yet. TN is rebuilding and will continue to rebuild with that coaching staff for ever. UF simply has shown nothing to world of college fball. They are about to go on a 4 game losing streak.

Hell, we are gonna have to hump it to beat Miss St., then TN in Knoxville. I don’t feel real confident about any of these games. We’re moving the ball at will between the 20’s but get bogged down in the red zone. Not a good sign. And Richard Samuel is a waste of a handoff, if you ask me. If he has a clear lane, he can go and go fast. But if the wind picks up, it blows him down. No balance. IC seemed to tire in the second half and wasn;t the same back. Lordy, I sound like Munson….

DAve, Grantham now has the players on defense he needs who now understand the schemes. I’m not worried about our defense. Charlie Weiss can’t throw anything of his at Grantham and Olividotti that they haven’t seen him do in the NFL. We have to get our offense going a little more(which I think we will by then) and cut down on getting beat by the trick plays on special teams.
