UGA-Tennessee game time set; Crowell No. 2 freshman runner in nation

A  few quick items . . .

  • Georgia’s Oct. 8 game at Tennessee will start at 7 p.m. and be televised on one of the ESPN networks, it was announced today.

Whether the game will air on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU won’t be determined until after this week’s action. But in any case the 7 p.m. start at Neyland Stadium is firm, according to the SEC.

It will be UGA’s first night kickoff since the season opener against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.

Two other SEC games also are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts on Oct. 8 – Vanderbilt at Alabama and Auburn at Arkansas. Those games, plus Georgia-Tennessee, will be divvied up among the ESPN networks.

  • For the second time this season, the SEC honored Georgia tailback Isaiah Crowell as its Freshman of the Week.

Crowell, who shared the honor with Kentucky running back Josh Clemons two weeks ago, claimed it outright this week for his performance at Ole Miss.

Crowell had season highs in carries (30) and yards (147) in Georgia’s 27-13 victory Saturday. His 30 carries were the most by a Georgia player since Knowshon Moreno’s 33 against Florida in 2007.

Averaging 102.8 yards rushing per game, Crowell ranks No. 2 in the nation among freshmen, behind only Bowling Green’s Anthon Samuel (107 yards rushing per game).

Crowell has surpassed 100 yards rushing in both of his SEC games.

  • Another Georgia player was recognized today for his performance at Ole Miss — safety Bacarri Rambo as the College Football Performance Awards  national Defensive Back of the Week.

Rambo had two interceptions against the Rebels, giving him four in the three games he has played this season — more picks than any Georgia player had in all of last season.  Rambo leads the NCAA in interceptions per game (1.33).

First to my Fellow Dawgs and Atl sports fan and rooster stats really don’t matter at this point as the only thing that matters is the won-lost record. Georgia should be 3-1 and in the driver’s seat for the SEC East right now but are on the outside looking in because we gave the game to South Carolina. Coach Richt can talk all he wants but the simple truth is until HE gets the little things straightened out on his team. They will continue to underperform and give games away. Poor special team play showed its uggly head against Ole Miss fortunately as a whole we are a lot better than Ole Miss. Plus we have the crutch of having Mike BoBo as the offensive coordinator. The only way Crowell is going to get into shape is to play and to have him out on the field toting the rock. By the way that fumble against South Carolina was on Murray not Crowell so get your facts straight if you watch the replay Murray never put the ball in his gut as you are taught so Crowell never completely got his hands wrapped around the ball.

Next we can’t worry about anyone else other the next team on our schedule and that happens to be Miss State right now. This will be a tough game but hopefully all the little mental errors are out of our Dawgs system. They will come out and play a rough and tumble game and take care of business for a change. Anyway I hope so.

very sad quote by Orson Charles in the Athens paper. Click on Dogbytes and look under article titled ” Richt and teams spirits lifted”,,,,,,,, Charles said…” I’m very happy for Coach Richt and this staff and my Teammates because it was an SEC win, and they don’t come often”……………And he’s correct by the way.

Yes, it’s all pretty sad, including yesterday now the player # 27 who has left Mark Richt’s football program, his and his coaching staff’s program – all 27 of whom would have been PLAYING this 2011 season. Joy, another cupcake this weekend. Missy State, who has beat only Memphis and last weekend, Louisiana Tech in overtime no less. LaTech has 1 win only on the season over Central Arkansas in overtime. And, Memphis’ only win is over Austin Peay. I mean wow. Can’t wait to hear all the hype about this win over Missy State.

At some time UGA has to decide if they want to keep being an NFL mill by recruiting all those five star three year wonders or Coach up some three and four star players that spell TEAM into a championship. Richt gets so involved with the Staffords, Marinos, Greens and others that the staff depends too much on their individual star status that they overlook the recruiting of OL and DL. A Boise state has fifth year seniors. We are bragging about how many we send to the NFL not competing for a championship. I cannot understand why when Ogletree got hurt that Samuel was not returned to defense…If he had a complete year training and only a few weeks back at rb, how can a kid as smart as he forget the plays and step in and do the job. Richt has not gone into the same rut with Crowell. Not playing others to get him some rest. GA will lose one of the running back prospects because of the situation he has created this year. If he is still here next year. All these receivers will start going elsewhere too. As far as Ealey, he made a choice to refuse to do a workout regiment Joe T. gave him and MR told him he would help him find another school. It is simple as that.

@Pollyanna are you inventing things to cry about..we play the schedule we are given two top 15 programs to start the season and now the start of our SEC schedule to say Miss St is a cupcake is to prove you know dilly about SEC football before this season is done Miss St will rain on someones parade if recent history proves out. If we don’t play 60 mins of smash mouth error free football they will beat us, like last year. We have to focus on Miss St this week not look past them to UT etc.

Crowell only averages a little over 4 ysards a carry in the 4th quarter.

He’s really flabby and out of shape and gassed in the 4th quarter, Joe T’s conditioning didn’t work.

Ealey got 6.6 ypc in the 4th qrtr, Crowell’s at 4.5, Ealey was 50% better.

Ealey averaged a rush td per game last season, Crowell’s averaging 1/2 a rush td per game, so Ealey is 100% better there too.

Crowell a decent back, but he has a long way to go (50-100% improvements) to reach Ealey’s elite level.

Well well. Pollyanna got here 2 hours early. Yeah idiot. I have great memories of college. I worked throughout college and got a job immediately after. Have been in the same field for 30 years.

Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk football.

What good does it do to whine and groan and moan like you do?

Do you not believe Mr Greg McGarity when he says he will evaluate the coach based on the results of the season?

Why do you bash me for pulling for Georgia to win?

Why do you bash me for seeing positive things these kids do and congratulate them for it?

Why do you bash me when I see something that didn’t go well, I call it bad?

Please explain to me what your never ending paragraphs at 2 and 3 in the morning accomplish?

I honestly think the best thing to do going forward, is for us to ignore each other.

Crowell is a stud, but mark my words, he will get a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty in a BIG spot in a game because he is actually sprinting after opposing players after a play in order to get his smack talking/taunting done. Can’t believe he hasn’t been flagged yet…but it will happen because the coaches are doing NOTHING to reign him in…what a surprise…

“I noticed a lot of these kids, first time out of the country, all they wanted to do was party,” said Lauren Hook, a University of Georgia senior who spent the spring of 2010 in Spain. The embarrassing sight of fellow Georgia students stumbling drunkenly around Valencia belting out Bulldog fight songs pushed her to explore more on her own. She also appreciated program activities setting up meetings between American students and locals. Meeting a Spanish boyfriend also helped.”

Auburn took out 2 of MSU’s O-linemen and LSU injured a third one, so we have a shot. We have a shot. We have to take advantage of all of these good things that are happening for us.

We can win the Florida game IF Alabama and LSU beat them up badly enough. We have a shot.

I love the idiotic predictions of failure that have gone on from day one for IC.

All he has done is follow instructions, workout, go to class, go to practice, play in the games and become a good solid player and play with bruised ribs.

Unless you know him, you should not comment on what he is doing or not doing. I don’t know him but my list includes things we can all see or have been told by the coaches that he is doing.

The rest of the stuff from the idiot haters is all speculation.

WVU hills are alive with rumors that UGA AD will can CMR for Dana Holgorsen at end of season. Big mistake for SEC to even consider inviting WVU to join. State of WVA is lacking in quality high school players and joining SEC would drain southern recruits to a team with nothing to offer in return. All their stars are from Ga,. and FLA. Better to take Missouri or UCF–better academics, bigger stadium and TV market, and decent fans.

@Bobby Bulldog

The SEC hasn’t invited anyone, but WVU is vastly superior to either of the schools that you mentioned regarding football. Anyone who discusses academic superiority on a football blog is a poser.

@harold

Dooley is an interim coach. Tennessee did long-term damage to their football program by keeping Phat Phil around for too long. Hopefully, Dooley won’t do as much damage as did Kiffin, and they can begin to rebuild after they hire a real Head Coach.

Really,Really! ACC passed up WVU because of academics, which has by far the lowest SATs in the BE. UGA has players from Missouri and FLa, but never any from WVU . UCF is the second largest school in the nation and beat UGA in a bowl.. Last year, with the same players as this year (recruited by Stewart) LSU beat WVU by only five points and WVU fans called for CBS’s head. Now WVU fans think Dana Dude is manna from heaven because they held LSU to a twenty-five point spread and squeezed out a touchdown win over Maryland ,who got stomped by Temple. Pleez, pleez, SEC , don’t ever invite WVU. I don’t ever want to have to go there to see the dawgs play. At least UGA is ranked in the top ten public schools in the nation.

this little nugget from Pete Fiutak @ collegefootballnews dot com this morning regarding upcoming coaching changes…” Georgia will lose at Tennessee, to Florida, and at Georgia Tech, and while Mark Richt will be done, he’ll quickly find a good job somewhere.”

true, he will lose those games, and, true, he’ll get another good job, probably in the acc, where his philosophy works better than it does in big-boy ball of sec…

If you really are a Dawg fan, then your only legitimate concern should be in having to play against WVU.

Athletic conferences don’t have academic competitions. You sound like a GIT poser.

Realy, really1! my legit concern is WVU using SEC prestige to recruit southerners, when they have nothing to offer in return–except rowdy fans who threw urine from the upper decks on Auburn fans who followed their team there. I have been attending UGA sporting events since 1950 and just don’t think WVU would be a good fit in the SEC. Heck, your AD wouldn’t even let his own children attend WVU. He got them as far away from WVA as he could.

Those making the argument that Murray hasn’t won games against ranked opponents (i.e. big games) while also saying that Brantley is a better QB by comparison is smoking some heavy s***. I don’t recall that Brantley has beaten a ranked opponent to date either. Last season, the Gators lost to the only 5 ranked opponents that they faced: Bama, LSU, Miss. St., SC and FSU. Therefore, since you are so apt to point out Murray’s flaws (or the Dawgs for that matter), marinate on that fact. When the Gators start beating ranked opponents again, then you have something to crow about. Until then… worry about facing Bama and LSU, the only 2 ranked opponents that UF will face thus far this season. Something tells me that the streak will not be broken anytime soon. The Dawgs are down and have been for a while, but the Gators are facing the same “well…who have they beaten lately” dilemma. Over the last decade, I give the Gators major props for the amassed SEC championships & NC’s. However, we live in the here and now. The Gators haven’t proven anything thus far this season by starting off with cupcakes. The real test will be this wknd and next. Good luck…you will need it.
