Three Bulldogs don’t make Ole Miss trip due to injuries

Oxford, Miss. — Greetings from The Grove. Well, actually the press box at Mississippi’s Vaught-Hemingway Stadium. But I was just in The Grove, the legendary tailgating area in the center of the Ole Miss campus. I always make it a point to make a pass through there whenever I come here. It’s a truly beautiful campus with some great SEC traditions.

After my tour of the Grove, I spent some time on the field watching the Georgia Bulldogs warm up. Here’s a few things I found out before today’s 12:21 p.m. kickoff:

  • Damian Swann did not make the trip. The sensational freshman cornerback from Atlanta, who made his first start last Saturday against Coastal Carolina, suffered a groin injury and was not going to play.
  • Also not here is freshman cornerback Chris Sanders. He injured a shoulder during practice this week. So the Dogs will be a little thin in the secondary today. As it is, though, Sanders’ main duty was on the kickoff return team.
  • That probably explains why Shawn Williams is starting at strong safety today. So his stint at “Mo” inside linebacker was just one week. Sanders Commings, who played safety while Williams was at linebacker, is expected to start at cornerback.
  • True freshman Amarlo Herrera was announced as the starter, or at least first-team, “Mo” inside linebacker.
  • Also, wide receiver Rantavious Wooten got into some sort of auto accident — as in car, not scooter — in the last few days and did not make the trip. He has a concussion, according to UGA spokesperson Claude Felton.
  • As for those who did make the trip, offensive linemen Kenarious Gates (ankle) and Chris Burnette (knee) both are present. Gates will start at right guard after Burnette fell out with a knee injury this week.
  • Isaiah Crowell is here and he’s wearing his rib protector.

That’s all for now. Stay tuned for updates.

You Jack Wads don’t know a darned thing about football. That becomes more and more apparent everytime I read some of these so called critiques.
First of all you can’t “add in the 2 long runs” Ole Miss had, because they wouldn’t have been long runs if holding didn’t take place. That’s like saying if you take Reggie Bush out of the picture, USC would have their National Championship back.
This team played well and if not for a couple of trick plays (which UGA needs to start using from time to time) and missed field goals, the score could have easily been 36-0. Ole Miss flat out couldn’t move the ball against what amounts to a second string UGA defense and UGA moved the ball up and down the field on them. What Bobo needs to learn is style points don’t win games, points do. He needs to use some imagination once he gets inside the opponents 30. And, my guess is they are holding back a little bit for the more worthy opponents. No point in showing your hand on the Flop (Texa Holdem term). They played vanilla against an inferior opponent Saturday and still dominated. A real football student would know there are great things to come from this group.

If anybody will beat them the rest of this year…it will be Florida and/or GT. GT may well wind up undefeated. They are playing awesome football right now.

First of all, when you complainers voice your negative opinions – please don’t claim “we alumni” because all of us alumni don’t share your opinion. Dawgs played good, Dawgs won! Blair Walsh IS still one of the best place kickers in the game and Murray is a great quarterback. I knew you turncoats would set out a lynch party for Walsh – it’s feast or famine for you guys. So, if you aren’t willing to support the Dawgs get off the wagon and close the door behind you because we don’t want ya’ll hopping back on when the Dawgs prove you wrong. Once a Dawg, ALWAYS a Dawg! How sweet it is!

Well my shutout prediction didn’t hold up although the defense is a lot better than last year.

3 missed FG’s?

Really?

He better get that fixed, and quick.

I actually was ok with the playcalling except for the series where Murray threw the pick. I normally don’t pay attention to the TV announcers but he hit the nail on the head asking “Why is Georgia lining up with no backs and throwing when the running game has been working so well?”

We will go 6-6 if we don’t get better.

Falcons lose
Braves implode
Dawgs 2-2

I’ll go vomit now

You’ve got 4th and 1 around the 30 yard line. Your kicker is having issues right now. He’s already mised a 48 yarder. So what do you do? Wait for a safer distance and less pressure to help him get his head back in place? Nah, you send him out to try another 48 yarder. RICHT AND HIS WHOLE CREW MUST GO!!!!!

Oh, yeah,, and later on you’re 4th and 2 yards around their 35 or 40. You go for it then…and just barely make it……

@BIGMIKE, the only part of your post I could remotely disagree with is GT. They beat the snot out of 3 bad teams and against UNC, they looked beatable for sure. The only thing that could make them undefeated when they get to play UGA is the ACC being more than weak this year.

@damngooddawg, HELL YES you send Walsh back out there. You want to mess with an all-american’s head? Go for it on 4th and 1 at a spot you would normally send him out there. Might as well give him a memo stating in writing that we don’t believe in you any more. He is a veteran kicker at this level, and he has to be able to kick through it. Yes, you send him out and maybe even more so now.

Please ask what was wrong with Crowell in the second half. I have never seen anyone take themselves out of a game so often. He looked like a totally different back in the second half. Carlton Thomas was WAY faster to the hole in the second half. Crowell’s legs looked dead. How can a kid this young be in this bad a shape? I know he was hurt some during camp but I though that his conditioning would be leveling out by now so that he would be in as good a shape as the other backs. I know he had a good bit of carries in the first half. And I will admit, the kid took some brutal hits. That has happend to him every game. Not sure if it is running style or what.

Samuel trips and looses his footing very easily for a big strong back. If you touch his foot or ankle he is going down. Let Thomas have more carries in the first half to keep Crowell fresh in second.

Not sure about Crowell PreyDawg, but I think your analysis on Samuel is spot on. He rarely hits a hole with any explosion and doesn’t seem to have the balance and speed to take a run to the second level.

As for Crowell, I think the hits are adding up a little bit but if he keeps coming out strong in the first half, we (and he) will be ok. Carlton Thomas looked better Saturday than ever before.

I was ok with the running game.

I agree about Walsh. You don’t send him back out on 4th and 1 in a situation where you normally do, he is done mentally

Yeah, I think a good example of that was an old QB by the name of Terry Dean at UF. Spurrier had that kids mind so jacked up that he never became what many thought he could.

Having 300 yds in the 1st half and ending with 475 yds means you settled for FGs and you got conservative and took your foot off the gas, which should never happen no matter who the comp is!

every other coach in the SEC has no problem going for it on 4th down, especially against us!
Do we practice special teams? I believe the word is out all trick plays, fake kicks, and fake punts will work against this team. I’m sure the next thing we’re going to see is opposing teams getting blocked punts as well.

Murray did a great job. There were alot of dropped passes against Ole Miss. Murray missed a couple of passes, but most passed were on the money. Special Teams let the Dawgs down today. How many missed field goals? Punt return 4 a touchdown. Onside kick. OTHER COACHES WILL RECOGNIZE THE DAWGS WERE WEAK ON REVERSES AND TRICK PLAYS. We did not score much in the second half and any good team will beat us if not corrected.

IC looked great. His mouth will get the dawgs a penalty in an important game. OCs sure has quietened his mouth alot on the field. AWte had a good day. MM from Valdosta is going to be a good player. Where is TK? Bennett is solid! Glad Murray played the entire game. He knows what is going on. OL is not consistant, but fair.

Only one I disagree with from the above post is UT. No way they lose to UT. They can’t run the ball, down to 1 quality receiver and Da’rick isn’t one to be labeled with the number 1 receiver tag.

UF could be a strange game considering they will be coming off a three week stretch against Alabama, LSU and Auburn. Might be winnable at that point.

Thought so too early in the year, especially with two big wideouts but the secondary has played pretty well aside from the BSU game which Rambo wasn’t in and now UT is minus their biggest weapon.

Auburn took out 2 of MSU’s O-linemen and LSU injured a third one, so we have a shot. We have a shot. We have to take advantage of all of these good things that are happening for us.

We can win the Florida game IF Alabama and LSU beat them up badly enough. We have a shot.

Pray harder UGA fans… Pray harder! The Baby Jesus loves our coach, and so do I.
