Richt: ‘I think we’re a team that is on the rise, but we’ll see’

After losing two games to highly ranked opponents, then winning one over an out-manned opponent, Georgia now enters the grind of its SEC schedule.

Saturday’s game at Ole Miss will start a stretch of four SEC games in four weeks for the Bulldogs, all but one of them on the road.

It should be a revealing patch of schedule.

“The thing I like is, we’re a team that is getting better as we go,” UGA coach Mark Richt said Sunday evening.  “We do have a lot of room to grow yet. The last couple of performances, minus the huge mistakes, four or five plays that really got us [against South Carolina], I felt we were making a lot of progress. As you watch tape, it’s still pretty obvious we’ve got some youth and inexperience that still needs to improve.

“Overall, I think we’re a team that is on the rise, but we’ll see,” Richt said. “We’re going to play that first SEC game away from home and get a better feel for what kind of progress we have really made.”

That game is  at 12:21 p.m. Saturday in Oxford, Miss., against an Ole Miss team that has the same record as Georgia (1-2 overall, 0-1 SEC) but is coming off a particularly dismal defeat.

While Georgia reveled in a 59-0 victory over Coastal Carolina in Athens, Ole Miss suffered through a 30-7 loss at Vanderbilt -– the Rebels’ ninth loss in their past 10 SEC games and the Commodores’ largest margin of victory over an SEC opponent in 40 years.

Ole Miss’ starting quarterback, Zack Stoudt, was poorly protected by his offensive line and threw five interceptions. The Rebels’ defense allowed Vanderbilt to rush for 281 yards.

For Georgia, the trip to Ole Miss is followed by league games at home against Mississippi State on Oct. 1, at Tennessee on Oct. 8 and at Vanderbilt on Oct. 15. Then, following an open date, the Bulldogs face Florida in Jacksonville on Oct. 29.

“There’s a sense of urgency in that if we want to stay in this Eastern Division race we’ve got to win,” Richt said. “Right now we’ve lost control of our destiny in this thing [because of the loss to South Carolina], but there are so many more games to played. Our goal is just to win our first Southeastern Conference game this year, period; that’s all we’re worried about right this minute.”

His players’ confidence seems high despite the losses to Boise State and South Carolina.

“I think we’re ready to get back into SEC play and get going again,” quarterback Aaron Murray said. “We have a lot of guys playing great football right now, and we think we can play with anyone.”

The confidence, Murray suggested, stems not so much from the rout of Coastal Carolina, an FCS opponent, but from the 45-42 loss to South Carolina the week before and the Bulldogs’ belief they would have won handily if not for three turnovers and a fake punt.

To succeed in SEC play, Georgia will need to minimize turnovers and, according to Richt, improve defensively inside its 20-yard line.

“The one area where we’ve just got to get better as we get into more of the Southeastern Conference play is red-zone defense,” Richt said. “We just have not done a great job there yet, but that’s going to be a point of emphasis to see if we can force some field goals instead of some touchdowns when people do happen to get in there.”

Except for the continuing absence of starting inside linebackers Christian Robinson and Alec Ogletree with foot injuries, the Bulldogs appear to be relatively healthy.

Richt said Sunday that he hopes backup tailback Richard Samuel, who sat out the Coastal Carolina game with a heel injury, will be able to play this week. Richt also expects wide receiver Marlon Brown and offensive guard Kenarious Gates to return from ankle injuries and possibly defensive end DeAngelo Tyson from a strained back.

Remember Bulldog Nation, the only thing we have control of regarding UGA athletics is the quality of our fandom.

We need to focus on being high class, supportive fans and try to lift our boys with our support; win, lose, or draw.

I was born and raised a die-hard Auburn fan. My great grandfather owned a barber shop on Toomer’s Corner. My family is from there.

But I was born and raised in Georgia and graduated from UGA. I still pull for Auburn but I’m a die-hard Dawg cause that’s my school and I love the University of Georgia, love Athens, and love the Dawgs!

We need to step up the quality of our fandom. We are generally regarded as one of the worst fan bases in the country (and that’s not a new thing).

Let’s go Bulldog Nation. It’s time we become first class fans and support our boys through thick and thin.

Go Dawgs!!!

Rumor is that Richt will have his contracted extended in a couple of weeks. Reasoning is: 1. Stability with new contract is attractive to recruits. 2. Adams and AD love the way Richt represents the University. 3. Richt still has one of the top winning percentages of any active coach and 2 SEC championships as well as a third appearance and several top ten finishes. No way Richt is fired. 4. All programs go through difficulty. 5. WE have a young team. Next couple of years should be off the chart. It is so funny to hear the Fire CMR voices. It will be so fun to laugh at all of the Richt haters when his contract is extended in a couple of weeks.

You’re talking about people with IQs of well under 100.

I like winning as much as anyone, but winning is not what makes me proud to be a Dawg. I am proudest as a Dawg when any of our teams play their best, win or lose. Giving their best and never quitting is what I want from our teams. If they are knocked down, just always get back up. Play hard as a team, and give it your all. I wasn’t seeing that last year from the football team, but I do see it this year from these players. Win or lose, when I see that kind of attitude and effort, I am proud to be a Dawg.

Hwy 400, I love the guy and wish things were different but if they extend his contract after losing 9 of the last 10 vs ranked opponents, then UGA is announcing to the world that mediocrity is acceptable. UGA is smack in the middle of the best recruiting in the country, and they land a LOT of them. The problem is within that coaching staff and that responsibility falls squarely on the head coach. Love Richt but I just believe he’s taken the program as high as he’s gonna take it and I’m ready to get someone who will dedicate himself to competing for national championships. We have the talent, we just need the right coach.

For Georgia, the trip to Ole Miss is followed by league games at home against Mississippi State on Oct. 1, at Tennessee on Oct. 8 and at Vanderbilt on Oct. 15. Following an open date, the Bulldogs face Florida in Jacksonville on Oct. 29.

Lets look at the odds for each game for UGA to win:

Ole Miss- 65% win
Miss. St- 51% win
Tennessee 51% win
Vandy 60 % win
Florida 35% win

Just looking at the numbers UGA should go 5-1 in the conference for remaining games to end up at 5-2 in the conference and 9-3 overall. Anything less should be considered a failure. Just the facts.

Just a note to our conference brothers at Auburn, did any of you catch AD Jacobs comments last week about the “ongoing” investigation and how Cam Newton started and now the NCAA is looking at multiple sports and looking for “institutional control”. Does not sound good for our Auburn brothers.

UGA will win out– As of now I think GT will be our toughest contest! USC will lose 2 games and UGA will play the winner from the west (AL, AR or LSU) not sure if we win or lose the SEC game but at least we will make it. (Unfortunately) OU will play someone other than the SEC for the National Championship this year. Richt keeps on trucking but lets BOBO become asst coach to the QB’s (or something like that)

Just do not get any fan of UGA saying that they go undefeated the rest of the way. First of all, they should beat Ole Miss, however the Houston Nutt situation is dire and he will throw the entire playbook at UGA. MSU will bounce back and showed they can play 3 quarters with LSU and be very hard to beat. Tennessee is young like UGA and UGA will have to slow down those big wideouts. Kentucky is horrible, Vandy is improving and will put points on the board. Florida is very very good on defense and will stretch the field on UGA. GT is improving each week and has a passing game to keep the corners honest.

So anyone saying that UGA will go undefeated the rest of the way is a little off base.

You think they enjoyed writing about the Falcons while they never put together back to back winning seasons? Wow, it’s so fun to ask CMR DIRECTLY AND TO HIS FACE about his job status and playcalling. I for one think that winning in any sport will boost their profile among their colleagues more than losing every year. Yankees and Red Sox reporters have it easy every year. All they have to write about is clubhouse drama, not losing seasons.

Saying we will win out is saying Murray is the best QB in the SEC. He’s got 0 wins against a team with a winning record. As a team UGA has nothing against anyone that matters, stats look good, final scores do not. “OH BUT WE’RE YOUNG…” Really? So is everyone else and everyone else is better coached. Auburn just lost their first game since 2009, very young, better coached, next year they might be #1. A let down year at Alabama and LSU is a 9 win season. Florida is simmering down there with possibly a better team than I thought that dork of a coach who rode Gene Chizik’s coattails at AU and UT could create but they’re so talented it masks the coach. UT is going to get better, they got knocked out with Kiffin but I think they’re recruiting is going to come around as Georgia, Tennessee and Alabama recruits not picked up by Alabama and Auburn make their way to Knoxville over “hot seat” Richt’s perennially overrated squad that seems to de-coach h.s. players.

This is about 2 posters in a row posting about supporting Mark Richt and his “coaching staff.” Where are the wins over the top teams ? What season will we finally not lose to teams who are no good, as well ? Where are the sacks this 3-4 defense was touted as giving to us ? LSU – beat Oregon and Missy State
Alabama – beat Penn State
South Carolina – beat Georgia Bulldogs on 28 points handed to them by our best players
Florida – beat the vols
Arkansas – is undefeated as well
Vandie – beat UCON and Ole Miss and remains therefore undefeated too
Auburn – beat Missy State and Utah State
Missy State – hasn’t beat anyone and neither has UGA and all those teams ranked ahead of us
vols – lost to Florida 23-33 better than we do against them

So, impressive. Now, we play after Coastal Carolina,
Ole Miss – who is # 109 Passing Offense # 101 Rushing Offense # 102 Rushing Defense # 100 Kick-off returns

I mean like wow, Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” will be looking so great after we beat Ole Miss – on this run of the next 5 years now (5 years from now the players on that team have not even been recruited here yet dimwit.)

Nobody in their right mind thinks UGA will run the table. It is possible with a little luck and mistake free football, but not likely. That is all we want around here anymore. Moderate success.

We haven’t beat a team who finished AP Poll Top 10 in 6 seasons.

And, we have 10 Losses in 10 years to 10 teams who did not finish in the AP Poll Top 25.

Florida is the only ranked team left on the schedule at # 15.

According to you, Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” can lose to Florida again (2-9) and can lose to another team OUTSIDE the Top 25 in ADDITION between now and end of this season, William.

4. He is too short to see over his line and the D line.
5. UGA is what 14-14 in their last 28 SEC games.
6. UGA has not beaten a school with a winning record in 16 games.

mansup……

the fans are tired of the 4 year downward trend, so when it’s apparent the game is lost, OF COURSE they are going to leave. it’s called making a statement!

to everyone, uga fans and haters alike…. the fact all the fanbase is having these discussions about richt and anyone else on the staff tells you all you need to know. i for one am done listening to excuses, rationalizations, and the prospect of a better future. i took the bait with the tweaks richt has done over the last several seasons, but am convinced that the wins/loss record would improve faster if the whole thing was blown up. enough waiting around hoping things will get better.

oh and for most of you who don’t know, which i heard directly from someone who played a few years ago and has many friends on the team right now… only about 20 of the scholarship players even worked out this summer in the new and improved, albeit voluntary, strength and conditioning. that’s why we have been getting pushed around thus far. in time the team will reach peak condition and thus will look good and the fans will think richt has it on track. he lost the team years ago, and now hardly anyone on the team today knows what a winning program is or what it takes to be one.

“2011 Depth Chart”

23 Seniors
25 Juniors

We have, if you consider Georgia tek has not played anyone yet and got ranked # 25 last night in the AP Poll for wins over nobodies, one team – whom no one considers any good at all – Florida on the entire remaining schedule.

If we lose to today # 16 Florida, we will have beat – if we beat everyone else – beat NO ONE.

How can you be “on the rise” when to be “on the rise” you have to (1) beat a team who would end the season in the AP Poll Top 25 while at the same time (2) not losing to a bad team who ends the season not ranked in the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over us

We haven’t done either in the last Six (6) Seasons, and the coach on the hotseat declares we are a team “on the rise” and his Apologists in this blog state “the team is young.”

Hogwash on both.

UGA Alumnus -

You’re absolutely right. UGA fans are the WORST!!! I was at the game this past Saturday and the number of empty seats was pathetic – at least 10,000. People once again came LATE and left EARLY. Thousands were gone by half-time. WTF is the point of BUYING tickets, DRIVING to Athens and attending the game, if you aren’t going to stay for the whole contest? I wanted to scream at all the people walking up the aisles. Do these people have something better to do???

This fan base is absolutely pathetic!!! This is the type of behavior exhibited by Tech fans, not UGA fans. If you support this program you need to look in the mirror and ask the same questions the athletes do every day. Are you the best fan you can be? Will you show up on time for the next game and stay for the whole damn thing?

I went to my first game in the so-called “Swamp” this weekend and was underwhelmed by the campus, the stadium and the town. The stadium should be called “The Dump” and the fans are all Big 10 re-treads. When the announcer announced a big 10 score, the crowd went absolutely silent while the UF fans listened for news from the homeland (Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, you get the picture). More wife beaters and jorts than you could imagine and the mullets were out in force. If someone offers you a ticket to one of those “games” in The Dump, look long and hard at some quality on the couch. And get this: they have a time honored tradition of hanging a big sheet in one corner of the stadium that reads (I’m not making this up), “Work ‘em Silly Gators”. The SEC’s least SEC program by far.

I am still trying to figure out how everybody says Florida is back. They have two RB’s that are their whole offense. No outstanding Wr’s and a QB that is pedestrian at best. They beat a Tenn. team that doesn’t have a running game and with one of their only two WR’s that could make a player injured, had no offense to speak of at all. Bray is a good athlete but just like any other QB, give him happy feet, and all bets are off.
SC is 3-0 I will grant you, but they can be beat. SC is Lattimore and their big receiver if you give Garcia a lot of time to find him. Give Garcia happy feet, and all bets are also off as to where he slings the football.
THE SEC East is three teams rebuilding in UGA, Tenn. and FL. and one slightly ahead of those three in SC. Vanderbilt does have a 3-0 record, but considering the quality of their opponents, Ole Miss. included, is it any more legitiaimate than say, Ohio State that was 2-0 and couldn’t handle a Miami team, that has numerous problems, Of the three rebuilders, UGA is the only one of the three that has skill players at every position, to make a team. Inexperience and some thiness at key positions is hurting UGA right now, but they are starting to grow up pretty fast. We have young receivers, a terrific RB, a good QB, and the line has improved much since the opening loss. I am still no fan of a hurry up offense, simply because if you have the skill players on your offense, short huddle or not, you should be able to match up against the guys across from you and execute the plays anyway. Not to mention the fact, that UGA’s hurry up, at half speed is not catching anybody sleeping on the defense. It is the old mano on mano theory. If you can beat me bring it on. I might know you are going to bring your RB on a slant, but I can’t stop it.
Those that say Hutson Mason should be the starter based off of mop up time, against a inferior opponent that at that point was beaten physically and mentally, don’t understand the game. Murray still knows the offense better, and has the confidence of team mates and coaches. He needs to settle down a little bit, and I would like to see him take off swometimes but I think the coaches are trying to keep him from running a lot, for fear he will take off too soon, and not allow the the reciever to get into his route. He needs ro stay as the NBR. 1 QB, unless the other QB’s on the roster can beat him out in performance when real games are played.
The defensive line seems to be another concern but I believe they are doing exactly what a 3-4 line does. They are occupying the front 5 of the offense, allowing the LB’s and safeties to make sacks and put on the pressure coming fgrom the outside. Our LB’s are fast and pretty good on tackling, but so far, they seem to be getting bottled up coming into the backfield. I think the DC needs to let them go and blitz more but the front three are doing their job. Just don’t give up the middle by blitzing too much. A stop at the line of scrimmage is just a few yards short of being as good as a sack or a stop inthe backfield. A NT in a good working 3-4 defense doesn’t record many sacks anyway, he clogs up the middle and that is what they are doing. It is a matter of numbers folks. If you have three occupying five on the line, and even if the other team goes with a two TE set or keeps the FB in to do nothing but block, the defense should be able to take that advantage and use it. The DC will have to work on his blitz packages more, but overall the defense is coming right along.

Day of the Triffids

September 19th, 2011
10:19 am

Georgia Tech alumni and fans have lives that don’t depend entirely on what a bunch of kids does on Saturday afternoons. College sports are fun to follow, but the biggest reason for going to college is to get an education.

UGA fans don’t seem to care about anything but football, and they don’t care if their players are enrolled in silly majors that no parents who are paying the bills would send their kids to UGA for. The very few football and basketball players who graduate have no job opportunities and end up unemployed or working in menial jobs that hardly require a college degree.

Georgia Tech is a real school with serious academic standards, and that includes scholarshipped athletes. UGA has a long history of being a drunken party school, where parents send their kids for an easy degree, even if the degree itself is worthless.

Jan Kemp exposed the obscene sleazy crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or character.

The bottom line is that most Tech fans have very good jobs and productive lives that don’t depend on Tech’s football record for their happiness in life. It would be great to beat UGA more often, but when you put scholar-athletes up against bozo-athletes, it’s usually no contest

No, UF is not “back”. “Back” would be a NC contender, but you wouldn’t know anything about that. By the way, that pedestrian QB has looked better than Murray so far this season (see the 3 TO’s against USC), and the UT team you dismiss so easily may very well stomp a mudhole in the Dawgs up in Knoxville. Looking ahead just a bit, Florida looked pretty dadgone good against TN. Mediocre offense sans two players but pretty stellar on D. The nerds and Paul manboobs Johnson even had an impressive showing. Vandy isn’t an automatic win especially, the way we’re playing. Running the table will prove mighty difficult. If Richt can settle in and coach his way through it, I would be impressed. I wish I had confidence in him.

Missy ST is a good D but lacks any potency on offense. No air attack and other than Relf not threat in the running game. TN is still a wing and a prayer and their best player is out for the year. Da’Rick with decent hands isn’t enough to make Bray a legitimate threat.

Day of Trif – “Jan Kemp exposed the obscene sleazy crap going on at UGA with athletes being enrolled in courses a ten-year-old kid could pass. That was almost three decades ago, and nothing has changed. If anything, the abuses are more blatant today. Way too many illiterate morons are being recruited, and the very high arrest rate shows clearly that Richt does not care if his players have any morals or character.”

————————–

1. You obviously don’t know that the Jan Kemp case was truly about. It was about assisting in grades in the English program. Bad? YES! But see number 4 before you righteousness kicks in.

2. http://stanford.scout.com/2/952555.html … In case you wanted to compare graduation rates of the two respective football teams in question.

3. You have nothing to say about the character of the kids that leave UGA after 4 years with CMR. You just make statements that are opinionated with a lack of facts to go with it. This is the very definition of ignorance.

4. Whose school of choice is on probation? That’s right, GT for all of their “we care about academics and not football” crap.

Everyone seems to be leaving out South Carolina.

They are 3 – 0. Their win against Navy may not have been impressive by the score but if you saw the end of the first half you know why Spurrier has the title of Evil Genius.

His use of the clock and his ability to have his players execute against a Navy team that is not bad was absolutely masterful. The field goal just before half time put them up by 3 and they won the game by 3.

I don’t know if they can beat UF but Spurrier knows how to win with probably the best talent he has ever had at SC.

I would say TN’s entire year was predicated on Bray’s arm and that was heavily reliant on Hunter in the line-up. Hunter’s gone and Da’Rick while he shows moments of brilliance is too unreliable. If Bray has time, he’l pick anyone apart. UF did a great job of pressuring him. Our d-line looks to be one of the top 5 in the country. Don’t count out UT just yet. Good win Dawgs! But what does it really mean? Does it mean we are a contender in the SEC? Probably not. Does it mean we can contend with second tier divison one teams? Probably. Is this where the Dawg Nation wants to be? Probably not. Should we expect more out of the Georgia football program? Yes. Why? 1- one of the top football facilities in the country, 2- great booster and fan contributions and support, 3- great recruiting classes …. just to name a few. The facts speak for themselves, we are trending down, we are not feared in the SEC, we are known as a team which cant finish. LOOK AT THE FACTS…… they cant be disputed….
1-GEORGIA is a combined 0-5 against Top 25 teams in 2010 and 2011
2- GEORGIA has lost 10 of its last 12 against ranked teams. (2-10 record)
3- GEORGIA is now 15-14 in his last 29 games
4-GEORGIA is 6-10 in the past 16 SEC games.
5- GEORGIA is 3-5 in their last 8 games going back to last season
6- GEORGIA has won 1 of it last 4. (and it wasnt a powerhouse we beat today)

Georgia fans are regarded as some of the worst fans in the country because of the delusional fans that claim a National Championship run every year, and an SEC title every single year, to respond to a post earlier in the blog. It’s time to come back to reality and realize this is a rebuilding year for Georgia and to come to terms that a 8-4, 9-3 year isn’t all that bad. Of course I as a fan want to go undefeated, and I get very mad at every game we lose, but I also realize we are breaking in a lot of new guys, and still compete in the toughest conference in America. We have some great athletes, but so does Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Georgia Tech, so we won’t just win on athleticism. Hold on the the football, and don’t give up the big play is what we have to do. I think we have what it takes to get on a roll, but Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Tech are no pushovers that we should just go ahead and calculate as wins, so we have to continue one game at a time, get above .500, then work into breaking the Top 25, instead of this we’re gonna roll through the rest of the schedule crap.

Even though we lost, I was very pleased with our team’s fight against South Carolina. They are a Top 10 team, and we would have beat them by two touchdowns barring shooting ourselves in the foot. I just hope we keep feeding Crowell the ball, getting Malcolm Mitchell the ball up field, and finding ways to get freaking Orson Charles into the game plan. That’s a winning combination, even if our defense plays 80% to their potential, so dial it up Bobo and get your athletes the ball.

Wrong. 8-4 with another loss to Florida ends it. However, he has to end the pathetic losses in Neyland Stadium if he wants to stay unemployed. It’s the Eastern Division that counts.

If you want to see what depth problems and a shortage of talent does to a team, watch Tennessee from here on out. Other than the Georgia game, they will struggle. Why the Georgia game? Because Richt and Bobo have a record of overcoaching and underpreparing the team for these weaker SEC opponents. I’ll believe it when I see it. Tennessee’s best chance at an SEC victory prior to their matchup with Vanderbily is the Georgia game. They have zero chance against South Carolina, Alabama and LSU. I believe they play at Arkansas, so that is likely another loss.

-24-17 overall ( 15-14 since ‘09)
-13-12 in SEC
-1-9 vs ranked teams
-9-3, 8-5, 6-7, 1-2 equals 4 consecutive years of decline
-Ga Southern, Central Mich, Tenn Tech, LA- Lafayette, Idaho State, Coastal Carolina are included in that tally!!!
-Nick Satan, Les Miles, Gene Chizek, Will Muschamp, Derek Dooley are now head coaches
-Rival recruiting rankings: 07-9, 07-7, 09-6, 10-15, 11-20..even recruiting is starting to feel it!!
-All new assistant coaches but for 2..

I think Coach Richt is right, while I was extremely disappointed the first 2 games I did see big improvement from the Boise State to South Carolina games. He does have a team that can win the rest of their games, especially if they come prepared and play them one at a time. No more games where they are just going through the motions Boise State, UCF in the bowl game, also no more gimme games where they give the other team points by loss of focus and players taking plays off i.e. # 83 on defense and # 71 on offense that cost them the South Carolina game. Anyway I hope they do win the rest of them and this fire Richt talk becomes a thing of the past.

This weekend will be this UGA team’s first truly away game. Especially for the freshmen, this will be a learning experience and a challenge. There will be a lot of noise and distractions. They also need to focus because any SEC team can beat another if the focus is missing.

Nutt will have his team up looking for a conference win. Georgia represents their best remaining chance to get an SEC victory this year. Their remaining SEC games are Alabama, Arkansas, LSU and Miss. St. at Oxford, and Auburn and Kentucky on the road.

If your a Dawg fan and your pounding your chest after last weekend, grow up. We did what we should have done. Its over and in the record book. The best news is we didn’t suffer another major injury. We now return to the SEC regular season, and we need to continue to improve. Every other team in the SEC will be improving as well.

All I have to say to the Tech fans on this blog is your not on the radar until Nov. 20th. Until then, keep playing hard and keep winning. We UGA fans know what its like to keep losing to the same team year after year. For you its UGA. For us its FL. If I look ahead to any game, its not Tech.

And of all of you that want to criticize UGA fans, you must not meet the same people I do. We’re not happy at 6-7, but we are also realistic and realize our team’s issues. We don’t believe a win over Coastal Carolina or a loss to Boise made us winners or losers. We also think before we type.

You honestly believe the football players are Engineering majors? I have friends at Tech that had to get an Institutional override into a Poetic Writing class to fill their electives, but it is only there for athletes, and have to get special permission to fill a seat in that class if they are not in the athletic program. So engineering is not a major for all Georgia Tech players, more like 10%. Tech still has Management majors, Philosophy, Psychology, and Interior Design majors, so don’t act like y’all are all bad a engineers and demand only the highest quality of minds and athletes.

If high school GPA’s are not comparable, then how is the SAT comparable? Every student learns the same information, every student takes the same SAT. It’s not like my high school taught me Europe won the Revolutionary War, and yours taught you the United State won. Once again, my point is that Tech offers classes to get kids through the program, just like all other schools, so your students are not any smarter than other schools. The SAT is the only comparable metric, because they all take the same test, everyone recruit in the country.

And yes, not all high schools are created equal. A 4.0 at a top school is not the same as a 4.0 in the inner city or in the boonies. Which is why Ivy league schools pay attention to the SCHOOL you attended, in addtion to the GPA, when determining admission.

beat in the east,

I was not dismissing anybody but of course, you didn’t bother to read, just get offensive. It was my evaluation based on what I saw from Saturday. I think if you check around with the other sports agencies outside of Florida you might find a lot of what I put down in the blog, makes sense. Unlike you, I at least give a reason for my statements, other than, “Tenn. might just make mush out of UGAS”. What do you base your opinion on. Facts, should be used, not silly statements. UF right now on offense is two RB’s, and if not for them, exactly what would your QWB’s statistics be. Who accounted for over 200 yards on offense for your team against Tenn? Your Rb, as I said. As I also said, Tenn. has no running backs and now they have lost their star receiver. Now, given out your well thought out comments that you always state, with lost of supporting statements, why is Tenn. going to make mush of UGA wehen they play? Try to support your ststements with substantial suporting material, not your opinion. In other words, don’t let your hate of a team cloud your perception, if you have any, and back it up with facts, when you take the time to evaluate.

So, your answer is that tech only takes great students (NOW!), but all through the 80’s and 90’s if you could fog a mirror you were accepted to tech and STAYED ELIGIBLE if you were a great athlete and NOW it is different. This despite the two RECENT academic scandals. Not much of an answer.

I love the Dawgs! Living in Knoxville, the home of the Vols, doesn’t make it very easy at times. The sports writers and radio blowhards around here are picking the Vols to be 6-6 or even 7-6 this year with a definite win over the Dawgs! The have a poor offensive line and practically no running game and now one of their best receivers, Justin Hunter, has an injured knee, The Vols are a very young team! Jacques Smith is a beast on defense, somewhat like Javedon Clowney at South Carolina!a. Surely, with all the talent UGA has, please don’t let these hillbillies beat you!!!! The bulldogs defensive sets are really beginning to bother me. I believe we need to go to a more pro style of setup with bigger ends and WAY faster corners. We don’t blitz half as much as we should. On the offensive side of the ball lets turn Murray loose, not on the field , but from UGA period. Hutson Mason could be the man to lead the red and black back to it’s glory days. Did you see the way that guy played against a solid team with only a thirty five point lead? If all this fails just wait for MENS TENNIS to start. Now they kick butt, count their national titles.

Yes, we have played noone, Lex. At least no one at our level. Kansas is probably a bowl team this year. MTSU barely lost to Purdue, so they are far better than Coastal Carolina (not to mention, an FBS team, not FCS).

We have played no one, but we also destroyed everyone. If the wins were 35-14 or 28-10, I wouldn’t be that excited. But we are talking about complete dismantling of teams, two of which are FBS teams. We lead the country in scoring and total yards, and rush yards when all the big schools are ALSO playing creampuffs.

That you only take the top students at Georgia tek for football. 3rd you reply to the grad rates at Georgia tek at 49 percent (less than half all the football players at tek) and said that’s about the same in your view with UGA at 57 percent grad rates – both current the latest release available on the teams from the NCAA itself, which doesn’t track SAT scores in 2011 from 2007.

The question I have is, with us trying to talk about Mark Richt and at the same time keep up with the blog you DOMINATE with this B.S. answering you instead of fussing among ourselves about how Mark Richt doesn’t beat the top teams and loses to the bottom-feeders at the rate of 1 a season too, what happens to these brainiacs at Georgia tek in football that they are against said coach 1-9 and all of them FLUNK OUT ?

What happens to the football players once they get there to Georgia tek ?
(1) they don’t graduate and none of them are engineers (mgt majors)
(2) they lose to us every year but 1 of this coach we are all fed up with after 11 years

That’s the funniest post of the whole day. Might have left out some other coaching blunders such as not teaching our kids how to fall on fumbles, let alone how to carry it. And, that we have 4 NFL TE on the roster and threw all of them a grand total of 0 for zero yards. And, that your QB is known to get rattled, and that you therefore saw 0 sacks. Good game strategies, all of them. Let’s see now, did your QB fumble the football 3 times 2 for instant TD, throw a pick for a TD and get thrown to the turf like a rag doll to end the game on that play – for all of us to get up and walk out ?

There is no way you can really be an AUburn fan and a UGA fan and actually have a grasp of what football in the SOuth is about. Bottom line – you have zero credibility.

Now to this season. By all logic, we should easily beat Ole Miss. However, based upon recent history, there is simply no way to predict how this game will actually go. I am reasonably sure that we will give Ole Miss at least 14 points as absolute gifts. Based on the Boise and USC games, the only certainty is we will do several stupid and undisciplined things both before and during the game. Therefore, what should be an easy victory against a clearly inferior opponent could end up ugly. We are poorly coached, lack intensity, and seem to be more concerned about showing off rather than winning the game. Over and under on players asking to come out of the game is 25.

All CMR has to do to stabilize his program is to just win his next game and his next and his next and do that for maybe two more seasons in 012, 013 and he will have solidified his job and then, maybe we can cut him another 4 or 5 year deal.

What is not to understand here? Yes, over two years, he can afford to lose one or two, just not right now. He is a competitor ……………he knows well how this BIG TIME COACHING game is played.

The Rev. Richt will make a good team chaplain. Keep him for that. Fire every one of his church buddies and hire a blood thirsty coach and let him form a new administration. I wonder how many BBQ fund raisers and mission trips Nick Saban has been on in the past six months? ha ha

Re: “Move Fla Game”

No thanks. I’d as soon not have the lizards up here beating our asses between the hedges.

Kudos to Friar, he or she is correct to say that playing the game in athens would not matter, the Mighty Gators would still knock the dogs all over the field as usual. Really the dogs should thank us, we will be the team that finally puts an end to richts career. The dogs will already have at least three losses coming into the game, and combined with the humiliating whipping that the Gators will give them in Jacksonville, it will be the day georgia decides to let richt go. Then you can get another coach and we will beat up on him to. See you in Jacksonville dogs, as usual you will be talking smack before the game and making excuses afterward.

I think we’ll handle Mississippi with ease, BUT this is not Costal Carolina so we’ve got to play hard. The Dawgs look like a different team than the team that started the season, but it seems like this has become the way the Dawgs are. Why can’t we be ready at the beginning of the season? What ever they’re doing in pre season training ISN’T ENOUGH!
