THEY SAID IT
Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt:
“It was good to get a W. A lot of good things happened today because a lot of good things have been happening along, but today we got it in the win column. I think we have a very good team. Today, they did about as well as we can ask them to do.”
“I was proud of the way we came out in the second half. We were able to sub freely and give a lot of guys an opportunity to play. Everybody covets scrimmage downs. That was a good opportunity for them. I think the young guys played well.”
“We have faith in our guys on offense to run the high tempo. There are a lot of benefits from going high tempo, and we’ll continue to do that and master that. We’ll keep getting better as the season goes along.”
“The (backups) were so thankful to get in the game and show what they can do. Games like this are nice for all the men.”
“The goal today (for the defense) was to not let them get started. We did not want their quarterback to get it going. We wanted to dominate the line of scrimmage and not give them much space. If we did that, we thought we could frustrate them and have this kind of day.”
“What was good (in the season opener) was playing in the Dome in a big-time environment away from home. It was a meaningful game with people in the stands and national television. So because of that, we have a better idea of how to handle things on the road. Historically, we’ve done well on the road in the SEC, and we hope we can keep doing that.”
Georgia players . . .
“Today was a great game and really got some guys fired up. I think we’re ready to get back into SEC play and get going again. We have a lot of guys playing great football right now, and we think we can play with anyone.”
“All down the line, people were making plays — whether it be first team guys, second team guys or third team guys. Guys went out and competed hard.”
“We try to have a different pace and mix it up. The goal is to go as fast as possible, but I thought the tempo today was good and we’re just going to try to get better.”
“We’re really excited. We’re just going to try to keep getting better and keep making big plays. We feel like we’re a good team and can play with anyone.”
“We have a really talented group of receivers — I’ve said it since day one. We have five or six guys that can get out there and make plays. ”
“We wanted to compete hard the entire game on offense and defense. We wanted to stop them as many times as we could, and score as many times as we could, and that’s what we did.”
“The defense did a great job. We went out there, got off the field, and gave the offense chance to score. . . . I think it’s important that we got our confidence back. There were a lot of people doubting us, and we all came together and came out and played a good, physical game. I was proud of the effort.”
“Georgia is the team we thought they were. After watching the film and studying, we had the ultimate respect for them. We had a lot of mistakes against a really good team. They are a mighty good team and we think the world of Coach Richt and wish the team the best of luck. We learned a lot about our team this week, but we will turn our focus to our opponent for next week and hopefully correct some of the mistakes that we made.”
“It is important for each of our players to experience this type of game. It is the type of the game that we can put some players in and see what they can do and how they respond. I think overall our team handled the atmosphere very well. They didn’t let it get to them and I think they will really learn for this and be ready for the rest of the season.”
“Our running game got better this week but we have work to do though. You have to be balanced to be successful and we have some work to do. I’m trying to teach this team to turn a negative into a positive. It could have been 90-0 but it wasn’t. Our kids kept playing and didn’t let that happen.”
“Games like this help the university and we want the football program to help the university as much as possible. It gives us some exposure that we normally don’t get. I do wish we could have played better though.”

Nice to see the kids get a reward for all of their effort during the off-season. I expect that they will get to .500 next week unless Ole Miss is really po’d after the Vandy game, which could make them dangerous. Hard to believe Vandy is 3 and 0.

Yeah, Vandy at 3-0 means an apocalypse could be on the way. Like the extra work that some of the backups got in this game too. Could have been used as a way to pile up stats for starters but instead the smarter move was made.

Four good things today: Defense gave up zero points and did not let down. Lots of back ups got to play. No injuries that I know of. Still did not use all of our weapons. Samuels did not play. Boo Malcom only one play, etc.

Aaron Murray should have been 90% passing against this team…He under/overthrew receivers all day and still tried to force balls to Orson(we all know you’re best friends) when he was covered by 3 guys…He should have thrown 3 picks today, but they had frying pan hands and couldn’t catch the ball…Wooten had 3 steps on a guy in the front corner of the endzone and he underthrew him by 5 yards…this same thing happened all last year and the 2 preceeding games….UGA is gonna be in serious trouble if our QB doesn’t get his head out of his ass and start correcting problems he should have dealt with 3 games into last year…not this year….Unnecessary mistakes and slow starts in halves will be the downfall in games….Go Dawgs

1ST – Good win Dawgs!
But what does it really mean? Does it mean we are a contender in the SEC? Probably not. Does it mean we can contend with second tier divison one teams? Probably. Is this where the Dawg Nation wants to be? Probably not. Should we expect more out of the Georgia football program? Yes. Why? 1- one of the top football facilities in the country, 2- great booster and fan contributions and support, 3- great recruiting classes …. just to name a few. The facts speak for themselves, we are trending down, we are not feared in the SEC, we are known as a team which cant finish. LOOK AT THE FACTS…… they cant be disputed….
1-GEORGIA is a combined 0-5 against Top 25 teams in 2010 and 2011
2- GEORGIA has lost 10 of its last 12 against ranked teams. (2-10 record)
3- GEORGIA is now 15-14 in his last 29 games
4-GEORGIA is 6-10 in the past 16 SEC games.
5- GEORGIA is 3-5 in their last 8 games going back to last season
6- GEORGIA has won 1 of it last 4. (and it wasnt a powerhouse we beat today)

TV was showing the Georgia score right after Ole Miss vs Vanderbilt game. That speaks volumes. t appears now that those that back CMR have decided to attack the fan base that wants to hold him and his staff accountable. I heard the AD and pretty much the entire radio crew state that you just cannot make 10% happy. Unlike a lot of fans who break their team colors out when they do well I wear mine year round and I don’t need paid employees questioning my loyalty or the fams that are tired of seeing this talented team coached down. I’m not impressed with a victory over Coastal Carolina. This was an expensive practice game. Nothing more. Beat a ranked team. Beat teams on your schedule that you’re suppose to beat. Earn that three million dollars plus that you’ve been taking to the bank and quit with the playing the victim.

Whow! Did what we needed to do? Navy put a scare into USC. Is Navy similar to UGA or did USC have a bad game. All teams even out and get better as the year unfolds. Ole Miss losing to Vandy has nothing to do with next week. UGA is in for some tough games where the last drive or the last stop will dictate the season. The character and the makeup of this team will be seen in guts with the game on the line, and possibly next week.
That's right

Navy was supposed to be an easy game for Carolina to rest ,like Coastal was for Georgia. Instead Carolina had to fight till the end and run Lattimore over 30 times. Lattimore couldn’t take the beating last year and missed several games which were all loses. Take Vandy this week against a tired beat up Carolina. Georgia is back in it in the East.

Jeff and “fans” like Jeff,
There is a difference between holding people “accountable” and hurting the program with silly posts and comments. If you have ever played or coached football you would know there are so many variables that go into the game that it is not as simple as wins and losses.
CMR can still coach and UGA should be thankful to have him….right now everyone is jumping on the Dan Mullen bandwagon…..these same jacklegs who criticize Bobo for running so much spread (which I also do not like) will get that all the time with Mullen….give CMR and these kids a chance before you call for CMR’s firing.

I wouldn’t say everyone is on the Mullen bandwagon. I would rather UGA went after TCU’s Patterson or BSU Peterson as my top 2 choices. It just seems like in every big game Coach Richt and his staff get out-coached. Seems like the last few years the Dawgs find a way to lose the game and always seem underprepared, i.e. the 1st play of the season and what do we get? A penalty of course and just a sloppy game altogether. Against SC, same mistakes that have plagued UGA for years. Seems like with all the time to prepare Richt never has the Dawgs ready to go. GO DAWGS GO BRAVES

AM is very uncomfortable throwing, unless he can find O Charles and when he does, he often tries to force it. AM is too short, nervous and too highly charged with emotions to win at the big boy level desired by UGA fans. His balls sail high or wide and he looks foolish with his bad throws.
He must win out for anyone to consider him even worthy of mention as a UGA QB after two uneventful seasons, so far At UGA. He has not won a big game yet. If he wins them all from here on out or maybe we drop one more and he wins out, then he will have become only an average SEC QB at 9-3, ………………….. oh hum, here comes the Fil A Bowl again vs Maryland or mighty NC State or FSU. He will not be revered with this type of lack luster career performance. He does have two more seasons, as he will not ever be NFL bound.
The great ones win championships like Belue or D Green or DJ Shockly or Mike Cavan or many others, like Ray Goff. So far AM is over rated and over hyped. Hell, John Lastinger was a winner QB as one clear example. 10-9 always in Dallas.
Orson Charles has ALSO shown nothing so far. He too is vastly over rated and over hyped. I would use him as a fullback or tail back for depth. THAT would be a great move.

You never know with Navy, especially if its option game is effective. Most teams struggle against the option, even if they have all summer or an off week to prepare for it.
If you’ll remember, UGA struggled against Georgia Southern’s option in the opener of David Green and David Pollack senior seasons and many other teams have had an extremely difficult time stopping Air Force and Navy through the years.
The fact that SC struggled offensively is somewhat of a mystery, but it wasn’t very effective against Georgia either. I guess the Force is no longer with Darth Visor.

A win is a win… I believe this team does have the players to compete with any team in the SEC, but only time will tell. My hope is that they do somehow win the east and play the SEC west division winner in the Dome in Atlanta. Win that game and they are back in the National spotlight.
It would nice if this happened and they got to play in a solid bowl game with some experience in winning tough games at the end of the year.
I want to commend the defensive coaches for the new defensive schemes they installed at times, and it will make Georgia’s defense more unpredictable. They played a great game!!
Good job to Mason in relief of Murray. Both of you played well and the offensive line is hopefully becoming more of a hard nosed unit as indicated by their play. Great job all-around to the offense.
Really like what I see in the wr’s and the rb’s are starting to make an impression. It’s all got to continue and spill over onto the up-coming opponents games with wins or it will not matter.
A FAN ALWAYS !!!!!
Once again, I am happy for the coaches, players and fans for this win regardless of the opponent.
Sometimes all you need is a moment of winning that can take a team all the way. I still I’m hoping for some trademark wins to bring Georgia back on the national scene.
As a fan, I thrilled you won and I still believe if you play to the players abilities and really come together it will go well this season. I was especially glad that some of the back-up’s got to play.
I hope someday to see Malcome get into a game for some time. I still believe he and the other backs can really help, if given the opportunity.

Let’s see…Tennessee had 23 first downs vs Florida’s 17. Tennessee had 288 yards passing against Florida. Florida had 213 yards passing and 80 of that came on one play. Florida only had 134 yards rushing; 3.4 yard per rush. Florida had 16 penalties for 150 yards! Tennessee’s best player was injured in the first 5 minutes and couldn’t play the rest of the game. Tennessee had negative -9 yards rushing. Georgia lost to one of the best teams and quarterbacks in the nation and played great on offense and defense against the 12th ranked team in the nation. Take away one of the mistakes UGA made in that game (which they will do in the future) and they beat SC.
I think UGA has a great chance to beat FL and Tenn and run the table. Go Dawgs!

Dixie Redcoat Band,
You really think that the win yesterday proves the Gators are back. They had better hope they don’t get their two running backs hurt or they are in big trouble. They don’t appear to have a legititmate WR and the QBG to consistently get a ball to them, if they did.
Tenn. has a fairly good QB, who is prone to getting happy feet, and slinging a ball, lord knows where. They have no RB’s and only had one WR available. They are a young team, but it appears they have a ways to go yet. I don’t think, based on yesterdays game, you can say Florida stepped it up and is back. They have problems also.
It appears to me that UGA, Tenn, and Florida are all in the rebuilding stage. S’C’ is no sure bet for the SEC EAST crown based on what they have shown so far. Teams can move the ball thorugh the air on them. The East appears to be wide open, but no matter what, I don’t think any East Conference team, would hold up well against Alabama, LSU and possibly Ark.

Not supporting this team isn’t going to usher in a new coaching staff. A vocal Bulldawg nation has been grumbling about the coaching staff for the past 3 season and it didn’t bring a change.
We don’t have control over who keeps their job and who loses their job in UGA athletics.
The only thing we can control is the quality of our fandom. Being bad fans does nothing but bring the players down.
Let’s step it up and raise up our team. Let’s go Bulldog Nation. Let’s show our support; Win, Lose, or Draw.

Just like if UGA loses Crowel. And who do we have
Ken Malcolm is in the dawghouse for the year so please inform me of our next RB who is good enough to play
And no one is saying the Gaterds are back just that the way they are playing they are going to win the East.
SC has shown nothing but carrying rabbits feet, and 4 leaf clovers in their back pockets the way they have played the first 3 games
UGA has no D-line and that was shown yesterday when they cannot even pressure a middle schools team QB just like they showed against Boise and SC and who knows what playbook we will bring to a game

For as “bad” as Georgia has looked this year, Tennessee and Florida looked like two high school teams. Tennessee couldn’t even snap the ball all the way to the quarterback the entire game. Tennessee has no, and I mean NO running game. Florida’s secondary looked like a pee wee league team. No discipline whatsoever. Muschamp is a raving lunatic. I’d rather e lucky than good and I think our schedule is very lucky this year. Compared to other east teams we play the weakest teams out of the west (which is where the real SEC power is). and with this schedule we can easily win the East and with a few good breaks in the conference championship win the SEC. In reality Tech may be the best team left on the schedule.

the definition of a “fan” is an ardent devotee. So some of you folks need to stop calling yourselves fans and accept the fact that you are nothing but a critic. The problem with you is that when things get a little rough and we aren’t on top then it’s all “they and them” when you talk about the Dawgs. But get on a winning streak and get cudos from Game Day on ESPN and it suddenly becomes “we and us” when you talk about the Dawgs. “Tradition and Loyalty” are 2 words on an alumni sticker that I have on my vehicle, so we alumni should be loyal to our institution and team and be supporters – whatever the situation is. I am proud of my school and my Dawgs. The 2 loses we have this season have come from 2 worthy opponents and who cares what division Coastal Carolina is, look at some of the teams that these others played coming into this weekend with a 2-0 record. One of the best things we can do for our team is to support them and stop degrading them and being buzz killers when we do get a “W”. But the “urine alumni” you know those that have been to campus and used our restrooms to gain a sence of belonging, they jump on the winning band wagon and have a hard time accepting bad times. Well, if you can’t maintain your devotion and support find a team that is winning and pull for them and quit degrading the players and coaches. Some of you guys have no idea what it takes to coach a team and prepare the players week in and week out, so just stay in your armchair and/or coaching the midget girls soccer team. Then there are those that have no idea what it requires being a student athlete at this level. So if you can’t be an athlete you can always be an athleltic supporter.
Bulldogs and coaching staff we are behind you – keep up the hard work and GATA! Go DAWGS!

Tennessee and florida looked average–Ga can beat them easy. SC barely beat lowly navy so they will lose 2-3 games. Ga will win the SEC east—take it to the bank! Ga v. LSU for the SEC title!!!

NOT DRINKING THE KOOL AID YET…..
Good win Dawgs!

You know – I am getting tired of reading about our record post Stafford and Moreno – 8-5, 6-7 – look what we have not done the last 2 years against top 10 or SEC opposition.
Well folks – every program goes through cycles – Les Miles was on the “HOT SEAT” beggining of last year – and after narrowly escaping with a win against the Tar Heels – that did not let up until after their victory over Alabama.
Bear Bryant had a couple of down years – 69 & 70 – and Bama fans were ready to get rid of him.
Richt is our coach – the team did not start well – but showed great improvement from game 1 to game 2. Richt has changed up the staff, changed S&C, let some players off the bus, and had a good recruiting year.
Let’s back and support this program watch for the improvement. This program needs support – not a bunch of negativity when something goes wrong.
The AD and President both want UGA to be nationally relevent – they will make changes if they feel they need to be made. So Let’s support this program!!!

UGA Alumnus…You could not be more wrong. I think that an assessment of the entire football program will take place at the end of the year as the AD has eluded to. But Saturday’s game was the first game since 1996 that did not sell out. I do not know how many tickets were unsold or if that is public information. But the athletics department at Georgia depends on donations and gate receipts to pay for everything, including the player’s scholarships. When people do not donate and buy tickets, that is a significant loss of revenue. And many fans believe that this is the only way that they can truly voice their displeasure with the state of the football program. It is their choice to show their support or lack of support through financial means. I can promise you one thing. If the AD feels that the status of the program is such that it is affecting revenues, he will not hesitate to make a change.

LMAO..if you think South Carolina, is losing anytime soon you really are drinking from Richts Koolaid faucet..The only thing the Dawgs did this week is prove that Murray can only beat Division 2 teams, and the talent at Georgia is good enough to blow out schools that are just the same as them…
