ATHENS – Georgia’s Shawn Williams, who started the first two games of the season at strong safety, got the start at inside linebacker Saturday against Coast Carolina
Williams, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior from Damascus, got the nod at the “Mo” linebacker position where regular starter Alec Ogletree was lost to a foot injury in the season opener. Ogletree is expected to be out at least two more weeks. Freshman Amarlo Herrera started the South Carolina game at Mo.
Georgia also had a new starter at the “Mike” inside linebacker position on Saturday. Junior Mike Gilliard filled in for Christian Robinson, who went down late in the South Carolina game with an ankle injury.
Williams’ switch from safety to linebacker created a domino effect on Georgia’s defense. Sanders Commings, who normally starts at cornerback, slid back to Williams’ strong safety spot. That meant that nickelback Branden Smith got the start at cornerback.
Also, John Jenkins was slated to get the first start of his young Georgia career at defensive end for the injured DeAngelo Tyson. But at the last second the Bulldogs subbed for Jenkins before the first snap and sent in cornerback Damian Swann as a nickelback.
Jenkins, a 6-4, 350-pound junior college transfer from Meriden, Conn., is primarily a nose guard but was filling in during the game at Tyson’s defensive end position. Tyson had started 11 consecutive games on Georgia’s defense but did not play Saturday because of an unknown injury. UGA officials said head coach Mark Richt will discuss Tyson’s situation after the game.
Other notable players to sit out Saturday’s game included tailback Richard Samuel (leg) and wide receiver Marlon Brown (ankle).

Congrats Power Rangers on your only victory of the season, Big team party at Bulldogs in midtown Atlanta. Offensive line to sing show tunes at midnight. So, who got suspended for drinking too many appletinis last night?
You whiners should schedule Notre Dame each year.

Dawgs also played 14 of last years signing class. Lot of talent for the next 2-3 years with 2 more great recruiting classes coming in. Future looking good for Dawgs.

I’m thinking the Dawgs may win the rest. It all comes down to Jacksonville. Mush-Champ acts like a complete idiot on the sidelines. The boy loves the camera and loves to act. He is perfect for the Gators. Just perfect. South Carolina is going to fold like a deck of cards like they always do. They start out strong and then fold. The Dawgs will win the East.

The dogs won in a manner that they should and by a score that was also anticipated by many dog fans. Beat Ole Miss and we are headed in the right direction.
