UPDATED: ILB Shawn Williams highlights 4 new starters on Georgia’s defense

ATHENS – Georgia’s Shawn Williams, who started the first two games of the season at strong safety, got the start at inside linebacker Saturday against Coast Carolina

Williams, a 6-foot-1, 220-pound junior from Damascus, got the nod at the “Mo” linebacker position where regular starter Alec Ogletree was lost to a foot injury in the season opener. Ogletree is expected to be out at least two more weeks. Freshman Amarlo Herrera started the South Carolina game at Mo.

Georgia also had a new starter at the “Mike” inside linebacker position on Saturday. Junior Mike Gilliard filled in for Christian Robinson, who went down late in the South Carolina game with an ankle injury.

Williams’ switch from safety to linebacker created a domino effect on Georgia’s defense. Sanders Commings, who normally starts at cornerback, slid back to Williams’ strong safety spot. That meant that nickelback Branden Smith got the start at cornerback.

Also, John Jenkins was slated to get the first start of his young Georgia career at defensive end for the injured DeAngelo Tyson. But at the last second the Bulldogs subbed for Jenkins before the first snap and sent in cornerback Damian Swann as a nickelback.

Jenkins, a 6-4, 350-pound junior college transfer from Meriden, Conn., is primarily a nose guard but was filling in during the game at Tyson’s defensive end position. Tyson had started 11 consecutive games on Georgia’s defense but did not play Saturday because of an unknown injury. UGA officials said head coach Mark Richt will discuss Tyson’s situation after the game.

Other notable players to sit out Saturday’s game included tailback Richard Samuel (leg) and wide receiver Marlon Brown (ankle).

Have two guys ever been more disappointing than M. Brown and R. Samuel? Well, maybe the other tailback (Malcome) who can’t even get in any game. When we recruit these guys, we’re told how great they are. They are anything but great.

Dawgtired, I can think of two guys off the top of my head much more disapointing than Samuels and Brown. That would be RICHT AND BOBO.

Quit blaming the players.

Dawgtired, who is responsible for scouting and assessing HS talent before they are recruited? Please don’t say Scout and Rivals….

I’m not blaming them. I’m just pointing out how sorry they are. If you can put 2 and 2 together, you should realize the ultimate blame goes on those who recruited such players who simply can’t play at this level. BTE, 2 + 2 = 4.

The real question is how bad is Ole Miss? Next week, we’ll see if Vandy is better than we are. They had zero trouble with Ole Miss. Wonder how we’ll do?

Maybe we could just trade coaches with Ole Miss. Might improve both teams.

After watching UT and UF for a half, I’m convinced CWM would not have made it through 3 games at UGA as a head coach before having a stroke. He actually has a pretty good team and is about to go bonkers. Just think how he would deal with the bunch we have.

We’re about to lose Mark Richt to North Carolina. They don’t care about winninng, they just want someone who will run a clean program.

We’d better get Richt a new contract before we lose him!

Muchamp would have gone postal on the UGA sidelines if he were to replace Richt…. Either homocidal or suicidal. I think homocidal… He could have been on our sidelines if it weren’t for that homo$exual Michael Adams and his sidekick McCavity. Now a good and competent Bulldog is our enemy.

Anyone who downplays today’s win IS AN IDIOT. 1.) Georgia had not won a game since last November. 2.) Georgia got to play a lot of kids. 3.) IT WAS THE NEXT GAME ON THE SCHEDULE YOU MORONS.

Georgia had to play this game. Much like so many SEC schools and ACC schools had already played one or two cupcakes. So, since it was on the schedule, there were two options. Win the game. Lose the game. Georgia chose the former rather than the latter. Enjoy it today. Get back to work on Monday. Move forward and don’t look back. Judge this team by the total body of work at the end of the season.
