Georgia has released a statement regarding the health of the Bulldogs’ legendary play-by-play voice Larry Munson.
From UGA spokesman Claude Felton:
“The family has asked me to convey that Larry Munson is recovering from a respiratory infection and is in stable condition.”
Munson, 89, permanently retired from calling Georgia games two games into the 2008 season due to declining health. He had stopped traveling to road games in the 2007 season. He was behind the mic for the Bulldogs for more than 40 years.

Larry is in our prayers. He will always be the voice of the Dawgs. I miss him saying “get the picture” and all of his sayings. He is as big of part of Dawg football as anyone.

Good luck Mr. Munson/ Auburn fan here but tried to never miss a ga. game on the radio/best announcer I ever heard. My bro-in-law now is from Penn st. area. When he got married down here
the reception was at nite and Auburn and Georgia were playing. Me and his dad( a huge Penn State fan) went to my car to hear a little of the game and have a stiff drink. After hearing Munson the old guy would not leave so we missed most of the reception. He said “this guy is the best I have ever heard” and he was around 70 years.

One of the “golden” play-by-play voices. Even as a a Tech fan, I loved his color and enthusiasm and his similes. He painted a great picture. Even though Ciraldo will always be my favorite, you can’t deny Larry’s greatness.

I rememeber sitting in a high school parking lot waiting for my son to return from a cross country meed and listening to the UGA/Tennessee game and Larry declare “We just kicked them in the face with a hob-nailed boot!”. Can’t help but like someone who can come up with that on the spur of the moment. Not a fan of the team (I actually AM a Volunteer fan), but best wishes Larry for a quick recovery….

Larry,
All DAWGS will never forget the thrills you brought us through your excitement! Wish you the very best and I am sure if I said that wish included 92,700 of your closest friends, I would be way short of the real number. That is only a stadium full but no stadium will ever hold a million! So on behalf of millions, “get well soon and show that Bulldog spirit in doing so”. You are missed!
