UGA President Michael Adams calls for support of football team, Richt

UGA President Dr. Michael Adams on Thursday called for Georgia football fans to unite in support of the team. His comments came during the fall semester meeting of the UGA Cabinet when asked to assess the job being done by 11th-year head coach Mark Richt.

Said Adams:

“I don’t believe I have ever commented on any coach mid season. You know the answer. What we do weith every head coach — every head coach, not just the high-profile head coaches – but at the end of the season the AD sits down and makes a judgment. Then he makes a judgment whether or not he needs to talk to the president about that.

“The issue for me right now is I think this is the time for all of us to come together and get behind this group of guys who played a heck of a game last Saturday and deserve our support. I’ve never folded on anything 15 or 20 percent into it, and that’s what we would be doing.

I’d love to see the stadium full Saturday for probably what will not be the most high-profile opponent we’ll play this year. I go to the locker room. I know these young men. I know a number of our student-athletes. We had a heck of an effort last Saturday. There’s nobody here who likes to win more than I do. But it’s time for us as a community to get behind this team, support them from now ’til the end of the season. And once the whole body of work is in, we’ll do what we do every year. We’ll see where we are.”

ALSO:

It seems there are a lot of folks coming out in support of Richt today . . .

Would you buy a used car from Michael Adams?. He personifies sleaze.

Didn’t Adams hire Damon “Red” Evans?

He and Richt have a lot in common. Anyone with a high school education could have moved the university along further than he has over the past few years with the state-supported Hope scholarship program.

As far as I’m concerned, if you’re not part of the solution then you are part of the problem. I find it offensive that Adams is trying to shift his own lousy decisions on Richt onto the shoulders of the alumni and fans.

Adams isn’t any more indispensable than Richt. Adams does not seem to really grasp or rever our great football tradition.

OFF WITH BOTH THEIR HEADS.

I didn’t see support for Richt, only people saying wait till the end of the year. what do you expect to hear? we are thinking about firing him? I don’t won’t to wait until the end of the season but I will. If at that point his contract isn’t terminated then Adams and Mcgarity need to go.

Adams? This is the man who brought his friend, Jim Harrick, in to coach basketball, then hung him out to dry in mid season. This is the man who pulled the basketball team from the SEC tournament then called the police on players who wanted to talk to him. Adams concern is his own self interest–financial and political in that order. If donations decline, Adams will cut Richt in a blink. Who gave Richt the big contract, anyway? The puppet Evans?

Maybe we could get the coach from Buford. I bet he could go 14-14 for a lot less money

Its pretty sad when the UGA president steps to podium, raises his arms and says for everybody to help UGA slay might coastal carolina. Georgia has stooped to a new low. BTW, Miss State is only down 6-3 to LSU at the present time. They will be a real pushover for Georgia October 1. Could Georgia be 1-4 on 10-1-11.

In that truck commercial, Richt says, “When people pay Georgia, they know they got hit.” And, apparently, he’s satisfied with that. But, first, Richt should not be allowed to use Georgia for proprietary interests– can’t one of you Georgia alum who is attorney sue him for that. Also, with Richt at the helm, when people play Georgia, if they’re a little bit better than a high school team, they know they’re going to win against a pathetic coach who has no talent or drive.

Great idea. We need a Blackout this weekend to show our support for the Dawgs. It will be touch and go against Coastal Carolina and that might just be the diffference…

Reallly…

I put a lot of credibility in what a couple of real live UGA football heroes say about Mark Richt: Fran Tarkenton and Herschel Walker. They call it like it is, even if they receive flack from the blind homer losers. Fran and Herschel have made it clear that it is past time for Richt to leave.

Adams is slimy. Just quit donating money to the Georgia Fund until changes are made; write Adams a note to let him know…

Anyone who thinks that UGA can beat Miss State, Ole Miss, Tenn, Auburn, Florida are crazy and need to be put in padded rooms.

If we won 6 games last year, we will be lucky to win 5 this year. Just continue the trend for the past five years….

I’m sure CMR will rattle off wins the rest of the year and possibly beat UF and keep his job, unfortunately….we’re never going anywhere with him as HC.

He’ll be lucky to beat Vandy. He almost lost to them with Stafford and Moreno and AJ Greene and MoMass! Florida is going to be extremely ugly–guaranteed. If you are thinking of going to Jacksonville, save you and yours the pain and frustration and stay home.

Wow, an honest to goodness hardnosed competitive SEC game is being played tonight, and it could go either way. I wonder what it feels like to have such a team to root for? We in Athens will never know until everybody who gets off the team bus not wearing shoulder pads on Saturday gets the boot.

FYI, MS gave UGA an A$$ whuppin that put their entire season in a spiral last year… They may be slow, but they are ahead of UGA. They will beat UGA in Athens if Richt and Bobo are on the sidelines.

The guys played hard saturday against a tough, well coached team. The game was lost by some mistakes made by freshman players. Thats what freshman players do. They will get better. I love UGA. I’m not gonna go nuts and demand they fire CMR. BOBO thats another decision that may need attention. If the guys put it all together this team can whip anybody. Let the dog EAT!

I think Mullen is missing a QB, he’s got a defense. I was thinking he was doing very well but leaving 3 timeouts on the board down by 2 scores is all I needed to see? Talk about quitting on your team. No thanks, we’ve got that already in Athens. And sure we could replace coordinators… again… but it’s getting a bit late to do that. At some point you have to realize the best coordinators are not interested in a Richt run Georgia. They see red flags. That’s probably how we ended up with a over grown punk H.S. kid like TC.

I’m thinking Malzahn is the best bet if he even wants to take it.

Auburn will be better than predicted…they have a hard-nosed coach that wants to Win and that’s what it takes these days. You can’t just show up in Jacksonville or Tuscaloosa with your arms folded, they are out for blood and they will rush Aaron Murray time and time again, there needs to be an option on 3rd and long, Am I getting somewhere with this? We’ve got to convert on 3rd down (bottom line) or we lose big. Get the damn ball out of there, our o-line ain’t running on all cylinders yet and they freakin know it yet they still continue to call plays that get our QB smashed up! He is tough, but he ain’t gonna last all season with the Clowneys of the world rushing Unblocked on 3rd and 7! Gees Lou eez! Come on Bobo ! Keep mixin’ it up if you can! We gotta stay fresh out there for 4 Quarters you know!

These Kool-aid drinkers are unbelievable, Dawgs LOSE a game and by the look of the internet you’d think they won by 20. S. Carolina played like crap and still won. I can only guess what things will look like Sunday after they roll Coastal Carolina, National Championship baby! Richt and his band of idiot coaches are turning UGA into the pre Darth Visor S. Carolina. The home of pre season championships and moral victories and the Kool-aid drinkers are fine with it, because, he’s a good man. What a joke!

Well said, Doug. We lost at HOME, AGAIN, to a South Carolina team that gave us exactly what we wanted…..a terrible game from Stephen Garcia.

Richt hasn’t sniffed a shot at a national championship in 11 years. He’s had plenty of chances. This downswing didn’t start last year, it started when DC Van Gorder left in 2004.

Newnan, you are right on saying that the slide began when CBVG left, although I put the slide starting at the Sugar Bowl vs WV. The team came out looking like it’s energy vampire of a coach and let a less talented team run up and down the field. Another thing that kills me about the Kool Aid drinkers is that when you complain about the crap stain that is ga football under CMR, they say “go support tech” or “you guys arn’t true fans” TOTAL B.S. Keep drinking your Kool Aid, and enjoy because there is no way this moron of a coach isn’t gonna mess up a few more games and we can get a real winner in Athens.

6 points at home in the biggest game in the history of the Miss St program and this is our savior in Athens?

We don’t have a QB on the roster to run his crap.

Murray wouldn’t last 2 minutes. Neither would Mason. Lemay is SMALLER than Murray so unless he turns into AHNOLD and gains about 40 pounds of muscle, we have no QB to run Mullen’s beat the QB to death offense.

It worked because of Tebow
Meyer and Mullen won because of Tebow

I want someone else other than Dan freaking Mullen.

The slide began after the loss to WVU. Folks give Van Gorder too much credit. Just look at what he is doing with the Falcons. Bend but don’t break defense with a soft zone. Check the tape. He did the same thing at UGA. He won with Donnan’s players as much as Richt did. He depends too much on his front four to create pressure and he got away with it because he had playmakers at every position. Martinez continued this soft zone trend, and now CTG. This represents a finesse style of play in the manner of the HC.

Well on the outside looking in, it doesn’t look good that the university president is coming out to ask for support for the team. But under the circumstances, this isn’t the gloom it appears.

All I know is, if the team keeps playing as hard as they did against USC then good things will happen.
