UGA linebacker Robinson out ‘at least’ two weeks, plus other updates

Another week, another injury to a key Georgia linebacker.

Christian Robinson will miss “at least a couple” of games with a foot injury sustained in Saturday’s loss to South Carolina, UGA coach Mark Richt said Sunday.

The injury, coming one week after Alec Ogletree suffered a broken foot in the season opener, leaves Georgia (0-2, 0-1 SEC) without both of its starting inside linebackers.

Compounding the problem, inside linebacker was probably the thinnest position area on Georgia’s defense and the one at which the team was least equipped to withstand injuries.

“We’ve definitely got a challenge at the linebacker position right now,” Richt said.

Ogletree, who underwent surgery last week, is expected to be sidelined for up to six weeks. Richt did not have medical details on Robinson’s injury — he suggested it might involve a hairline fracture — but said it is not as severe as Ogletree’s.

The first names Richt mentioned as candidates to fill in for Robinson in the next two games — Saturday at home against Coastal Carolina and Sept. 24 at Ole Miss — are from the same trio that competed last week for Ogletree’s spot: junior Michael Gilliard, freshman Amarlo Herrera and senior walk-on Jeremy Sulek. Herrera started against South Carolina, but all three played.

Richt suggested that freshman Ramik Wilson or perhaps Chase Vasser might shift from outside linebacker to get some work at the depleted inside position. Moving Richard Samuel back from tailback to linebacker, or moving Jarvis Jones from outside linebacker to inside, are not wise options at this point, Richt said.

“You might weaken two spots if you take Jarvis away from what he’s doing and put him inside,” Richt said.

Robinson’s position is the on-field leader of Georgia’s defense, and “somebody is going to have to really get in there and be able to handle a lot of the communication issues,” Richt said.

Robinson, a junior, had a team-leading eight tackles Saturday before being injured late in the game. He was unable to play on the Bulldogs’ final defensive series. He was in the locker room afterward with a bag of ice on his left foot.

Among other topics Richt discussed Sunday:

  • Although left guard Kenarious Gates is expected to play this week after missing the South Carolina game with an injured ankle, he “is going to have to compete to get back in the starting lineup,” Richt said. That’s because of a strong performance by Dallas Lee in his first collegiate start Saturday. Right guard Chris Burnette also played well against the Gamecocks after he “quite frankly didn’t play all that well in the first game,” Richt said.
  • After reviewing film of Isaiah Crowell’s costly third-quarter fumble, which led to a South Carolina touchdown, Richt indicated the freshman tailback might have taken too much responsibility when he said after the game the botched handoff was entirely his fault. Quarterback Aaron Murray was “hobbling” from a hit on the preceding play and “didn’t bring the ball as deep as he normally would,” Richt said. “Isaiah should have been more patient, but certainly the timing in my opinion was different because of Murray hobbling back there instead of really sprinting.”
  • Although tight end Orson Charles did not catch a pass Saturday, he “had his very best game as a blocker,” according to Richt. “Run blocking, pass protecting –- I don’t think I’ve seen him play with that kind of intensity.”
  • Richt liked what he saw from the wide receivers. “You see Malcolm [Mitchell] coming on and Michael Bennett having a big day and making some plays. I think we have at least six guys who can make plays out there. I’m encouraged, definitely.”

Not good news for UGA.

I sincerely hope the players get well and are able to return soon. These are college kids we are talking about; anyone who is glad they are injured should reflect on personal priorities.

Mark Richt and company do not need any more injuries……….they are already on a VERY hot seat.

CMR is overmatched in his position. The most ecent example is the roster management is horrible. How can a team with 85 potential scholarships have to resort to having a walk on take the majority of snaps at ILB after ONE injury? Now we are out of ILB after 2 injuries. Already, UGA doesn’t have enough OL on scholarship. How can this keep happening? OL has had 5 of 22 starters for as long as the sport has existed. That means sign 4 to 5 EVERY year. Apparently the entire campus except CMR and the football coaches knew that Caleb King wasn’t going to pass enough classes to be eligible this fall. How could CMR not use one of those 8 extra scholarships on a RB? The same goes for ILB. CMR can’t get the concept that recruiting is an every year job. For 2012, UGA currently has two commitments from the ESPN top 20 in Georgia. UGA doesn’t have a commitment from ANY LB or RB. UGA’s recruiting class for 2012 is ranking 31st and that just won’t cut it.

CMR has got to get over his commitment to loyalty over ability. Well before the end of the 1st quarter it was obvious that Crowell is the real deal and that he didn’t need to leave the field unless he asked for a breather. However, he continued to give Samual carries; I guess it was because he is a DGD (no argument), but everytime he carried the ball it was a wasted opportunity because of what IC might have done if HE had the rock.

All of that is to say that Samuel is not needed at TB- get him back on defense IMMEDIATELY, and let him gain some on the field experience against CC.

Crowell should touch the ball at least 25 times from here on out. Make him your workhorse. That way Murray won’t have so much pressure on him to win games because I assure you once teams get a whiff of Crowell and how good he is, they’ll start to stack that box, then unlike Garcia, Murray will pick them completely apart.

@AthensDawg,

I don’t think they have much of a choice but to give Crowell the 25 times a game. It is one of the keys to success for the rest of the season. I’m concerned, but not quite yet in full panic mode. They have just take care of business for the rest of the year. No more room for error. I will continue to support the team regardless of whether the current staff remains or if they change the staff. It’s a huge distraction to the team with all the “hot seat” talk. Should wait until the end of the year and if changes are warranted, then make them. We should not be saying it’s a losing cause with 10 games left.

I feel the same way as most fans at this point about Samuals. If he has the speed and size to play the position put him back there. I think the young man has his degree at this point and, is smart enough to handle the transition if he only plays a few snaps over the next two or three weeks and, consider that Boo was the 9th best back in thecountry when he came out he should at least get a shot at being IC back up

Malcome may be hurt, but he clearly has the potential to be a great back. He has the size, and he has good speed when he is healthy. The problem is that he has been getting a lot of nagging injuries, and I gather from Richt’s comments that he hasn’t looked that great in camp. But, like Richt himself, a weird series of injuries can make great players and great coaches look bad. I think Malcome has the potential to be a great back. A one-two punch of Crowell and Malcome could be awesome over the next couple of years.

On the four screen plays I saw, the line held their players less on each play.
On the fourth screen, it looked as if the line just let their player go bye and they where
in the back field almost before the ball. Sack, fumble, score. Run the screen, but

He has to stay three, doesn’t he? I loved watching Crowell, too. Love his acceleration on his cuts. It looks a little odd, doesn’t it? That is a gift. The fact that he is doing that in the SEC in his second game is a very good sign. The folks in Columbus had to have been proud of their boys on Saturday: Figgins, Jones, and Crowell all had great games. I suspect Figgins was open because they ignored him to cover Charles. Credit to Bobo for seeing that. He does get some serious criticism here. Malcome has the potential to be a true power back. He has the instincts that can’t be taught. Having an irritated groin for that long isn’t good, though. If he is hurt, we will likely have to wait to see him excel, but if we get him well and keep him encouraged, I think truly makes a difference for the Dawgs in the future. And he and Crowell complement each other beautifully. It certainly isn’t either or in their case. In the SEC you need depth, as we saw Sat.

Go for two, not only that a couple of those screens were wide open! Crowell would still be running. If our line had checked the D linemen like they were supposed to, we would have won easily. The fumble six was a blown screen. Murray didn’t have time to let the screen develop because the lineman wasn’t touched. We need to 150 of those in practice. The press is covering that like it was pressure on a regular pass; looked like a blown assignment on the screen to me.

Blair Walsh missed a chip shot. A 60+ yd fake punt for a touchdown by a DT. Sloppy QB play. All things that we can point to losing a game on A Saturday that we were the better team.

We are 0&2, the Panzers are bigger and better than our tanks, and we should just give up and go home–maybe boo the generals on the way out. The most important thing is to get rid of Ike ASAP!” Instead our Dawgs acted like a famous old 82nd Airborne paratrooper is reported to have done. In the midst of an entire tanker unit retreating in the Ardennes, a tank driver noted a PFC digging in. The PFC digging the hole asked the tanker if he was looking for some place safe, and the tanker said, yes. The PFC said, well pull in behind me; I’m from the 82nd Airborne and this is as far as the b*****ds are going. (roughly paraphrased). I’m proud of the fight in our Dawgs, as I see you are, too. How long until they fix Richt’s brain problem? Oh well, at least we will still keep Boise from having a strong SOS to let others yell they belong “because they beat a good SEC team”, they beat a terrible SEC team who would be the worst if it wasnt for vandy.

What is amazing is that Richt has all these highly sought after recruits but he did better his first few years and I think only a few were 4 stars and I dont remember any of them being 5 star recruits, his coaching style only works with hungry players. Pampered 5 star primadonnas are not the recruits for him, he needs farm boys and those raised in the country to succeed, but he will go to a mid level school and do really well since he can coach lesser recruits up. Injuries are part of the game, I know. But did you know that over the last several seasons Georgia leads the Nation in losing “Starters to Injury”. I mean, how good was our offensive line when Trinton Sturdivant was a freshman? People forget he suffered three (3) major knee injuries and had to retire from the game. We have been snake-bit in areas where we can least afford injury.

I would like to see our “starters” play about 1 and 1/2 quarters of the Coastal Carolina game and then build depth and experience with some non-starters and freshmen (red shirts and true).

Looking at our schedule, if the Georgia team that showed maximum effort against SC shows up for the remainder of our schedule, sans multiple turnovers, there is not a game left that cannot be won. We just need that one, hard fought game win to help turn things around.

That Boise St. was that much better than USC and that is why Ga looked improved. Meaning GA had to look like a better team against USC than Boise St. There was HUGE difference in the skill level of Boise St & USC. Remember one was ranked #5 and the other #12. Who’s going to call the defense!?! LOL

What a disaster this program is right now. CMR only concentrates on recruiting receivers, backs, and QB’s. The lines of scrimmage are an afterthought. He still thinks he can win in the SEC with an FSU attack. The thing is this can be turned around in 1 year with the right coach. Tons of talent and support at UGA.

AHA! exactly what I said saturday!!!! When Murray came up in pain and hobbling they should have pulled him for a few plays-his mind was on the pain and not 100% on football. Just common sense (which is the problem here of course). So naturally two plays later the fumble occurs.

CHDawg , mountaindawg, MarineDog all need a reality check. Most have been calling for his head for 2 years now, I defended him for those years but no more, the problems are still there two years later, stupid penalties, mental lapses, and moronic offensive play calling, I dont care if you have the bears defense from ‘85 keep putting them in those situations and even they would look bad, you cant keep running on 3rd and long, everyone knows its coming and it gets stuffed every time. And then when something works they never go back to it, WTF? Saturday they pulled the guard and blasted a hole for IC but then after that they didnt do it again, why not? It was a wrinkle they werent expecting and it was brilliant because they had no answer for it. Look, I loved richt but this is so stale that he has to go. ATLDAWG87-That depends on who the hire is, no player wants to sit a year and as long as the coach is hired before recruiting it may get more in there since the school looks bad right now.

Matthews Dawg-Really? Did you watch the same game I did? They played sloppy and without a purpose, they should have won the game by 14 or 21 points, we had better players than boise but lost, why? Because of discipline, plain and simple, Richt’s mantra of “finish the drill” sounds stupid now since we know nobody on the field was paying attention. And if you think they will win 9 or 10 you need to seek mental help, this is at best an 8 win team and most likely a 6 or 7 win team with that coaching staff.

Much better effort, there were a lot of positives coming from Saturday. The most promising was a much more diverse, improved offensive game plan. The worst was the fake punt. The fact that the coaches keep mentioning all of the alignment calls that Robinson has to make during each play, is probably the leading reason why the defense can’t stop anybody. This Grantham guy seems to be trying to be so complex (ala NFL) and seems only to be confusing himself and his own players. Certainly didn’t confuse Boise or S.C. or anybody we played last year for that matter. Just let em line up and go get the ball. Damn! Hey, great idea…even better lets take away the points that the other team scores and just imagine how great UGA could be??

Three of the “mistakes” when the UGA beaners are soothing their hurt pride were actually solid plays by SC.

The faked punt was a perfectly executed play and an incredible run by a 270 lb DT.

The pick 6 was an excellent bait and move play on Murray and the last was that Clowney kid tossing Murray around like ragdoll.

Yet UGA fans want to pretend like UGA players just walked out on the field and placed the ball neatly on the field for SC players to pick up.

Just a little education for those that don’t know, but in a 3-4 defense the LB’s are actually supposed to be making most of the plays. How can you be running a 3-4 as a coach and talking about being thin at LB. These guys (coaches) are lost. Fire Grantham, put Washington back on the ground and let your DL start trying to make plays rather than tying up blockers, which is the philosophy of the 3-4 defense. I’m telling ya’ll Grantham is a fraud, do a little research into his background. Dude was barely the LB coach for Dallas, not the DC.

Sounds like Mark Richt is tiring of Murray’s turnovers, finally. I remember the game against Florida, Murray just kept making mental mistakes. Didi it again in the Bowl game after several weeks of film study on UCF. And now, after 8 months of film study, committed 3 to’s against a div rival.

I like LSU’s approach to QB’s. Just manage the game. Rely on defense, run game, and special teams. It’s a formula we can use to win.

I think Richt has to make the change at QB. Murray’s to’s and lack of poise, is just undoing the team.

Some observations:

I hope Isaiah does not develop fumbleitis.
Thank God we play CC this week.
Thank God we play Ole Miss after that.
Why the heck can’t Brandon hang onto the dang ball on punt/kickoff return?

I want to see this team be successful, for the benefit of Brandon Boykin. Can that kid play, or what?

Murray’s size does come into play when he gets hit (see yesterday’s game and AU last year).

These are 3 statements by Mark Richt post-game, which are indications of a problem with the head coach :

(1) “We had a slip screen called and their five technique [tackle] went inside and I don’t think Cordy [Glenn] got a hand on him. If you’re gonna get sacked, you get sacked. But Murray had to hold onto the ball there.”

ITEM : Jadeveon Clowney split 2 OL from his right side, picked up little Aaron Murray and slammed him the turf like a RAG DOLL, and then followed Melvin Ingram in for his 2nd touchdown on the day, who is a defensive lineman also. Mark Richt makes it sound as if Aaron Murray cannot check down at the line of scrimmage, saying he had a slip screen called. And, again, it is not ok for anyone to blame the loss on a player but here the coach is blaming 2 different players for the play that cost us a 2 score lead we gave up on this play at the end of the game when the other fans left.

(2) “I guess I wanted to show people that I could get mad. I threw them pretty far, too. If I had a visor on I would have slammed it down.”

ITEM : Steve Spurrier slams down his visor because he IS mad, not because he wants to show everyone that he could get mad. Mark Richt did this on the whiffed tackle by Brandon Boykin, who last week, along with Aaron Murray, tweeted pre-game on their public Twitter account about the football game, and Aaron Murray’s tweet still sits on his Twitter Account for all to see.

42 points and 20-something first downs against an Ellis Johnson defense does not support the hypothesis that UGA’s offense was the problem in the loss to South Carolina. Let’s call a spade a spade: the game plan showed more variation and innovativeness than I’ve see for some time. As Spurrier noted “Georgia outplayed us” and some times the team that plays more poorly wins anyway! Yes, UGA made a few critical plays and suffered one bad call that was critical (Rambo’s offsides call), but what decided the game was the effectiveness (partially luck?) of SC in converting UGA’s mistakes into points. From my perspective (and I’ve watched the telecast twice) UGA did indeed outplay SC; however, it is what it is–a loss. BUT NO NEED TO RISE UP IN ARMS IN ANGER TOWARDS THE COACHES AND THE PROGRAM. I, for one, am encouraged and even with the recent injuries at ILB look for the dogs to win against Costal Carolina and Ole Miss. If we play like we did against SC, we’ll beat Mississippi State too. Let’s hope the Bulldog Nation relaxes until gameday and then yells up a storm in support of our players.

Georgia will lose to Tennessee, Florida, and GT this year. Bank on it.

Richt is a dead man walking. Actually, he’s a very rich dead man walking.

UGA’s recruiting will be better off firing him now and getting and interim coach.

UGA is the second most profitable football program in the NCAA, only behind Texas. We need to lay out the cash to buy the very best proven head coach in the country. That alone will send recruiting through the roof. Current Dawgs will also stay put.

Until Richt is gone, we are doing a disservice to the players.

Of course it will! A ranking in recruiting of 31st is pretty damn high. Boise State is currently 40th with their 2012 recruiting class.

And for the record here are the Boise rankings for the current 2011 team:
(per Scout.com)
2011…67th in nation
2010…97th in nation
2009…60th in nation
2008…64th in nation

NO UGA didn’t deserve to win. Kevin Butler had it right. You have to take every play in the game into account not pick and choose the plays on which UGA performed better at and then say we should have one.

The team who “deserved” to win was the one who executed a fake punt for a 70yd TD, baited Aaron Murray into a pick 6 and then had a freshmen DT blow up a play late in the 4Q for the winning margin.

The result in a game is the result of every play of the game.

Here’s a tip from a fan of a team that actually runs the ball…

YOU CAN’T MOVE SAMUEL TO LB AND RELY SOLELY ON CROWELL BECAUSE CROWELL CAN’T HANDLE THAT!!!!

I know UGA fans like to think because of a couple of nice runs that he is the next Lattimore, but here’s a hint…he’s not. Lattimore proved that again on Saturday. When Crowell was tapping his helmet to get off the field, Lattimore was too busy getting the yards the hard way and amassed appox. a buck fifty.

Crowell is considerably smaller than Lattimore. Crowell needs Samuel to catch breaks, otherwise, UGA is really screwed. I don’t care how good Crowell is at catching a screen pass.

BIGMIKE

September 12th, 2011

Let me remind some of you geniuses out there calling for Mark Richts head:

What we got 10 years ago after a couple of longwinded failed attempts at aquiring a worthy head coach is an untested offensive coordinator out of FLA ST that managed to win two SEC Champions and compete for a few more along with taking us to the brink of a National Championship.
Along the way he….by his own admission…. made some mistakes. Like the defensive coordinator change after losing Van Gorder, which was a biggie. There were other factors in his recent inefficiency like a less than adequate Athletic Director….the university saw fit to Fire Dooley….remember? And replaced him with a philandering drunk. And his wife’s battle with cancer…if you don’t think that will effect a man’s focus…you need to walk a mile in those shoes.

SO WHAT! So what those aren’t excuses…they are lessons and a man grows from them. He is a better football coach for it.

They lose by 14 points to the number 4 team (and I believe eventual #1) in the nation and 3 points to the number 11 team in the nation and you want to rid the University of it’s most successful coach in decades. BRILLIANT!

That’s why “FANS” don’t make decisions….Look what happen to Jacksonville when they dumped Coughlin….Moreover, look what Coughlin accomplished within a few years of being fired from Jacksonville (SUPER BOWL CHAMPION and perennial Contender)

Go ahead and get rid of CMR and be prepared for the mediocrity that follows. If winning the SEC was as easy as getting a new coach, then there would be 11 new coaches in the SEC every year. The fabulous Saban that everyone refers to when denigrating Richt is done for a while. What should Alabama do when they don’t win next year….Fire him

Saban runs Bama’s D, not Smart. Smart does what Saban tells him is going to be done and he carries it out.

Georgia is about to turn the corner and be back to their winning ways of 10 games plus a season under Richt. Support the young guys, the prize recruits while they are getting their feet wet. Be great fans, not fans that put too much pressure on and tear the program down instead of supporting it and the young guys. UGA could have won Saturday and that is great to see. They were favored to lose. Heck over half of S.C.’s points were gifts from our offense and a fake punt when you include the fumble on the exchange that left them at about the 10. Add in the missed chip shot field goal and it was STILL a tie game. UGA could have DESTROYED THEM! Before this season is over they will be destroying some SEC opponents! Bank on that!

You know why they made so many mistakes? Trying SO HARD BECAUSE OF THE PRESSURE PUT ON BY A BUNCH OF SORRY IMPATIENT FANS WHO NEVER WENT TO UGA!

Richt is not going anywhere if McGarrity has the wisdom and mental toughness that it appears he does. Nor does Richt need to go anywhere. The team is being rebuilt and WITH no returning running backs, significant injuries and players no longer on the team for whatever reason, to several positions and a bunch of new guys. UGA is going to be fine. How soon depends on how soon you fans start giving your support instead of impatience and hatred and plain criticism.

The players have already stated the pressure is getting to them and you are their fans?! Give them a break OK? The heat on Richt is stressing the players. They CAME to UGA to play for him and played one game against a top 5 team and then one against a top 12 team and you people are relentless and just plain wrong. You will see. All of you when UGA finishes this season STRONG and start out next year STRONG and instead of the underdog in the first 2 games, will be the FAVORITE IN THE FIRST 2 GAMES!

Go Dawgs! We believe in you coach!

Chill everybody. Everything is going to be OK Dawg Fans! In 2 weeks these young guys will have 2 wins under their belt. How good do you think Crowell, Mitchell, Jones, Jenkins, Lee, ETC are going to be by the end of the season? We havent even seen Drew yet. Man the future looks promising! No closer to success than the day they fired Phillip Fulmer. I have grown tired of this blaming of every loss on the players, with the glaring coaching issues this team continues to clearly demonstrate; and have grown weary of Mark Richt’s statements that he is telling us something for effect; when what he needs to do is to actually make some coaching decisions instead of cursing us and the media now too about his defense of the play-calling. There is no excuse for starting the game off once again with 3 drives to the goal line, to always all 3 end on some pass-happy offense poorly designed plays and poorly coached players that do not know yet in their 3rd year here fixing to be their 4th year here on campus in a few weeks now, that when a player cuts, you already have to have thrown the football near the goal line.

We are not a very well coached football team, have not been over the period of the last Six (6) Seasons now, and the last excuse we need to hear now after all this, is that the coach BLAMES THE PLAYERS while he tries to APPEAR as that which he never has

I have never seen 3 turnovers become TDs in one game in 60 years of watching UGA football. This was just like being hit by lightning. More troubling is the continued poor play calling. UGA had it 3rd and 1 in the red zone. Why not load up in the I hand the ball to Samuels or Crowell with Figgins leading the way? Bobo decides to throw and it was broken up. Then a botched field goal. When you get in the red zone 3 times and get 6 points, that is not good. Also why didn’t Grantham make sure someone stayed home on punts to prevent what happened?

I think Boykin is a good player, but he mailed it in on the fake punt TD. He had a clear shot to stop him about the 35 or so and not being blocked, he just kinda half heartly (sp) reached for him with no effort. That has been our DB’s mind set for a while. I think the guys really tried to win this game, but the coaching and discipline and depth , and maybe talent is just not there to beat a ranked team.

Well, I’ve heard it all now. UGA’s football decline is because Dooley got fired.

Thanks for that enlightening theory, BIGMIKE (Katharyn Richt).

As for the SC game, I actually thought Bobo called the game of his career – Richt handicapped him a little in the 1st quarter with his lusting for the almighty FG. In the drives after the first three (2 FGs and 1 miss) Bobo began taking shots at the end zone when he got close to the red zone, which was refreshing to see.

The O as well as the D played good enough for us to have won by 3 TDs, but the turnovers for scores (and one runback to the 4), and the fake punt did the Dawgs in.

Is it not getting weird that Murray still has not won a big game? I love the kid, but is he just a finisher, or is he just our QB on a bad run?

At any rate, the team played hard, but I don’t know if McGarity and Co will be satisfied with moral victories this late in Richt’s career. I think he will have to do something really special to keep his job, and I don’t really think he has anyhing “special” left in his tank anymore.

We lost but I can find absolutely no fault with the coaches for this game

We scored 42 points
The defense played really well and only had one bad penalty all day

We made mistakes and like always, turnovers decide big games.

I hope against hope that Richt will get to finish out the year and be judged on the entire body of work.

Why can’t we pull a VT from 2010 and in the rest? We can. A lot of the haters will say no way.

I believe there’s a 0% chance Richt gets canned before the season is over. We should be underdogs (slight) in only a couple of games left, so it’s possible for a special run. I hope so, but until I see Murray win a big game, one against a winning team, I’m gonna have my doubts.

JB was right that Boykin didn’t appear to want to hit the ball carrier on the fake punt. Otherwise, Boykin did have a great game, making plays all over the field – sacks, tackles behind the line and downfield, etc.

Paul Finebaum said last week that one person not talking about the situation with CMR was Steve Spurrier, and he was hoping that Richt would not lose his job. After the game Saturday and watching a woefully undercoached team, I see why Spurrier would want that. UGA was terribly coached for the second straight game. And, I would say that if Aaron Murray is the best QB the SEC has, then the conference is in big trouble at that position. For the second straight week, his weak QB play directly helped produce a loss. They need to give Mason a shot.

robodawg

Playcalling was actually a strength in this one. Turnovers doomed us. Would’ve liked to have been prepared for the fake punt. We needed one more block from the OL. And we needed one more stop from the defense — I think we have depth issues there. But you can’t expect to win when you turn the ball over that many times.

Dawginlex, I agree completely. I thought the play calling for the first time in recent memory was really good. Especially their attempts to get Crowell the ball in some space and not just run him up the middle. Even Samuel was running with a purpose and the line game both backs some holes to work with. The defense (the 4-yard run after the fumble recover aside), really only gave up 17 points with the rest coming off turnovers and a fake punt (this one is a little forgiving too since as mentioned on here earlier, Boykin, a member of the D, should have made a play). Murray will get it together, too much talent not to. He is a Soph. and I hope he gets mature in time for Richt to see this through.

As for a VT type run, it can certainly happen. I felt like if they won Saturday, a 2 loss season was more than realistic. As it stands, I still see only a 3 loss season being realistic. They hung 42 points on a team with very good front 7 and ran the ball well in the process.

TampaDawg

Joemac, did you even watch the game? It was probably the best coaching job in two years. Turnovers are part of the game for one and Murray threw for four TDs. Without play calling that freed up Crowell and Murray’s passing, UGA isn’t even in this game from the beginning.

It’s just so cliche at this point to keep blaming coaches for an unranked team not being able to beat a top 25 team. But let’s face it, many on here didn’t even give the Dawgs a chance to be in the game to start the second half.

I am proud of the way this team came out and played Saturday. SC has one of the best D’s in the conference and IC ran for 118 and we put up 42 points. But for a couple of bad plays by our QB we win.

I was worried as to how the team would respond to the loss last week. I think they play a damn good game. We didn’t have the benefit of playing a couple of soft teams to get tuned up for SEC play. That would have been nice. No we started against two top 11 teams and did okay in the first game and got a lot better for the second. Winning out is possible and I think this team can do that with what I saw Saturday. Hold your heads high and Go Dawgs!

Crowell is the real deal…Secondary played very well…O line was better but still not great…Murray looks lost – he had two good drives all night which will not cut it…Our D ends are a joke…no pressure at all…the only pressure came from CB blitz which will get you burned eventually…

Thank you Douglas Dawg. Somebody finally gives USC a little credit for doing what it takes to win. The past 2 years USC beat GA the way GA beat SC for decades. – By running a defense over in the 4th quarter. Everybody in the nation knew that Lattimore was getting the ball in the 4th quarter of this game, and GA simply could not stop him. This year I think Lattimore got 95 of his yards in the 4th quarter.
UGA fans should understand that things are changing slowly but surely in the SEC East. Did you know thatCarolina has only won in Athens 8 times in well over 100 years? 4 of those have been since 2000. We have won 3 of the last five – and was about a yard away from 4 (2009) We will always be at a disadvantage talent wise since GA is 4 times as large as SC, but the talent margin is getting thinner. So, please give a little credit where credit is due. UGA played well and gave us fits on defense. But when we needed to score. We scored by running right at you. We we needed a first down. We got a first down by running right at you. End of story.

Okay, lets evaluate the decision making that cost us the game: Ball on our own 20, almost 5 minutes left to go. Put Murray in the shotgun with one back (which should tell the D that there is a 80% probability he is passing given the playcalling up to this point). That should send a rush with the highest recruited defensive player in the country after Murray, and our highly coached but inexperienced offensive line should be able to stop him, resulting in a nice 15-20 yard pass completion! Welcome to Dreamland, where wishful thinking and earnest prayers are expected to carry us every time. Obviously at this point in the game a smart coach would have chosen to pound it out with Crowell until we got to the 50 yard line, eating up the clock until we mixed some passes in. But hey, I haven’t been caoching for 25 years like CMR, what do I know? Listen up McGarity – one more loss this year and CMR must go.

Sea Dawg should probably watch the game before commenting. This is not a bash on Murray or Crowell, but Murray’s pick six and fumble led to 14 points (can’t blame the defense there) and Crowell’s fumble led to a return down to the 4. Hard for a D to get blamed for that one also. The fake punt, well hard to call that one since a few defensive starters play on the punt return team. So if you include the fake punt TD, the defense gave up 24 points. NOT 45!

After watching the posts of UGA fans for a few years, my observation is that many of them are ‘fair weather” fans. They jump on the bandwagon when the team is doing well and winning, but jump right off when faced with adversity. That’s when their support is most needed.
Perhaps the reason they have little loyalty is that their personal lives, careers, etc. are miserable, and they need to spread the misery around?
Fans get the team they deserve. Before asking your team of college players to show some backbone, show some yourselves.

BOBO…remove these plays from your playbook!!

No more toss sweeps with a Power Back!

When you’re RB is hot…dont pull him on key, big drives. Crowell was eating up yards in the first and second qtrs. Then you’d pull him out when he’s hot..and put in Samuel. Changed the whole dynamic of the drive, hence we settle for a FG.

Some big catches by your WRs saved your butt on several occassions….with a few of your playcalls.

Last drive of the game, 3 mins left…3 timeouts….you have a stud running back (banged up a lil, but still running well)…1st and 10..and then you go directly into play action pass. RUN THE DAMN BALL out of the “I” formation. We were running the ball very well all game, until you keep pulling the “hot” player..and substituting. Are you nuts?

if you’re gonna run out of the shotgun….put two back in there…who can both fall out into the flats (into space)..and let their speed to some damage (ie. Crowell, Thomas…heck…even boykin).

Need more motion plays!

If our coaching staff is going to be replaced, It better not be someone that doesnt have experience as a Head Coach or someone not used to coaching at a high level/ SEC.
If it does happen I’m going on record and saying I would be happy to OVER pay to get someone like CHUCKY that can hit the ground running. How’s 8 mill a year for 5 years!
I like the current staff, well besides Bobo. But at the games end and currently I still feel we are a better team than USC. This coaching staff is in the “Murphy’s Law” Rutt. Anything that could happen will, which shouldn’t be acceptable for 4 straight years at UGA!

@Tampa, Yes, I watched the game, and if that is what you call a good coaching job, then you do not know what one is. They did make some good play calls, so I think that Booboo was not calling the plays. Lack of coaching again produced a very undisclipined team, a trademark of recent MR coached teams. BVotton line s that trhey should have won, but did not make the plays and got beat again … the 2d loss to my 7-5 season that would be a GREAT season. Great Xs and Os guy, horrible when it comes to dealing with the players. Can’t say I disagree there too much. I do think the SEC East is still possible, even Spurrier noted that before the game that the loser of the game still has a real shot. CMR either has to beat UF or get to the SEC title game to spare the season. Both would be preferable.

Gruden does have some intensity but at what price? Plus, is he willing to play the recruiting game and play it by the rules? There are so many unknowns with someone like him in the college game, but many negative knowns in his coaching process. Sure, he could have changed by now, but he’s been a media guy since leaving Tampa and I can’t imagine with as many dismal NFL coaches out there that if he were a hot item, he wouldn’t already have a gig.

I was at the Boise State game and UGA looked TERRIBLE. They were totally clueless and had no passion as a team about the big game on the national stage.

I tuned in this past Saturday for the USCe game, and UGA looked totally different and actually excited to play. They really had a lot of costly turnovers that killed the game for them.

I think if they give Crowell 25+ carries a game, then use the play action pass from the I formation, then we could be deadly with MM and OC at receiver. Crowell is the real deal, as everyone has advertised. Now we must make him our impact player.

Maybe Samuels should be moved to linebacker, and we rotate Isiah and Boo at running back. But Isiah would get most of the carries.

If Richt loses to Tennessee, and Florida then I think he is toast but let’s just see what will happen over the next 5 games. Im not calling for Dan Mullen but it sure makes me wonder what he could do with this offense with players like Crowell and Mitchell in that spread offense. It would be like having Percy Harvin at UGA !!!

I am curious as to why they don’t let Justin Scott-Wesley try and run the ball a few times. He is 6′1″, 210 pounds and runs a 4.4. Let Wesley run it a few times against Coastal Carolina and you will see where the problem is with Samuels. Samuels runs to far forward, trips himself up and gets pulled down by arm tackles. He doesnt have the build anymore to be an elete RB. Thus, move him back to LB where we need the depth.

I went to the Buford / Yulee game on Friday to see Derrick Henry in action. He didnt have a O-Line that could block (similar to our problem) and didnt have a pass game to keep the Buford LB’s and CB’s honest. Henry has really good speed and looks like a really good running back. But, always a but, the Buford RB looked much better with his cuts, vision, quickness and speed. He hit the hole like a freight train every play. Henry seems to be more of an outside speed back that would do well with toss sweeps. I admit that Yulee was outmatched when they stepped off the bus, thus it is hard to tell if Henry could have matched the Buford RB running behind the same line. My guess would be yes based on Henry’s speed and quickness. I dont understand why Derrick Henry hasnt moved to Camden County to play in the Wing-T with Brice Ramsey. That would be a tough offense to stop with Henry running the ball behind that Camden County line.

Maybe we can land Keith Marshall this year to run with Crowell and be the two headed monster that is needed to domiante a SEC running O.

No, that was an interference call.

The onside kick-off, our kicker came up the line and stopped to get the right angle to kick it to the guy, who stepped on the line and slightly beyond the line with half his foot, and then the kicker kicked it.

This, of course, is not where the game was lost.

But, if the defense gave up specifically 17, which is what they actually did give up.
The offense scored 45 and gave up 21, which is 21 points for the offense, clearly on the balance.
The special teams scored 6 and gave up 7.

Be consistent folks.

The game was LOST because of the OFFENSE.

Richt’s future is right now. There will be no red shirt frosh QB Christain Lemay or Ray Drew or whoever playing for CMR in 2012.. For CMR and his staff, they all need to play now.Live for the moment now, as 2012 will not be there for the UGA staff.

With Aaron Murray’s complete inability to win a big game in 1.2 years, they need to let QBs Hutson Mason and Christian Lemay air it out, or at least get some PT. Murray will not play an entireseason without being hurt, so they need some experience.

With AM on the UGA bench, maybe we can see what develops. We know that Murray cannot get it done. Look at his awful big game record. He is a loser. We are horrific and he has not advanced in his situational maturity and game time cognitive skill set. Florida game in 2010 and vs SC on Saturday show him with the ball way out on the end of his arms while being slung down and his FUMBLES and PICS lead directly to UGA losses. These two games cleraly illustrate this vs two very, very, very beatable SEC teams that beat UGA because of Aaron Murray.

I say allow the younger QBs some PT right now or UGA late season, could be in for some worse times, if one can imagine that. Richt has no future anyway. He will be done by the end of the MSU game, I suspect.

Fellow Dawgs we showed improvement overall last week but there were still way too many mental mistakes due to lack of focus at times. This stuff of not rushing the kicker has bite us in the derier again. This happens every year it seems that some team see us do this token rush on punting situations and takes off. This was one of four plays that cost us the game, instead of being 1-1 and more importantly 1-0 in the SEC East we are 0-2 and looking at another losing season because this coaching staff does not pay attention to the finer points and allows players to loose focus, take plays off and still play. As I stated in another blog # 83 would be on the bench I don’t care about how talented he is, because he doesn’t seem to get it that you have to pay attention to what the other team is doing offensively. In watching his play the last 2 weeks he has been not only a non factor in stopping the other team but a liability to us. He was out of position on so many plays where he took himself out and got caught inside, it is not funny. If I can see this then whoever is watching on the coaching staff should see this as well and make the necessary changes. Anyway we should beat Coastal Carolina but Ole Miss is not a gimme.

I do agree that Wesly-Scott is very decent and fassssssssssssssssssssst and can play as a situational scat back,, so put him in there. His balls skills supposedly are excellent. Use him now.

0-2 ?

I know what 0-2 means.

We have averaged the # 7 recruiting class for 11 years, avg of both Scout.com & Rivals.

We are 13-13 vs the last 26 SEC East teams.

We are 14-14 vs all teams, overall.

Our QB is not six feet tall, and he has 10 interceptions in 15 games and he has 12 fumbles. Of the 20 fumbles last season, 9 are Aaron Murray. Of the 6 fumbles this year (to-date and counting) 3 are Aaron Murray’s. Even Mark Richt said he 100 percent is certain that the fumble was caused by and for everyone to BLAME Aaron Murray only (hobbled.) He is sacked more than any QB, cannot see over the line, is SLOW at 4.72 speed, slower than SEC DL as you saw, is small, averages 1 yard per run, is NOT dual-threat anything, is a poor leader, will have been on campus 4 years in a few weeks from now, calls his own number every play, checks off at the line to himself, keeps the call called in from the booth-sideline to him if it is his number called, and oh by the way, has a TWEET on his nationwide Twitter Account this morning that reads he is going to the Georgia Dome now to whoop some a**. Did I mention he is 6-9, with 6 wins over nobody, and 9 losses only 7 of whom finish in the AP Poll Top 25. 9 games to-date where head-to-head on the field that day vs each other, the opposing QB was BETTER than he. One guy above asked did we hear USC asking that their QB be benched ? I’m sorry, I was not aware that Garcia threw and interception and had 3 fumbles, like Aaron Murray – was I at the wrong stadium ? I thought I remembered leaving the Ga Dome.

What is lesser about last year’s team than this one ?

We had 26 players this time last year on the team, who have been kicked-off the team, you said “addition by subtraction” sir.

We had AJ Green

We had another NFL player now who last year accounted for every SACK.

We had 2 real running backs who could have spelled Isaiah Crowell and who by the way, knew how to block since the OL did not for them, or for pass plays. Steller players on the roster last year who played the OL, are also GONE.

Another WR who caught passes, is gone.

Lesser team last year. Based on what ?

Last year, you told me that 2009 was an abberation at 8-5, and that 2010 was NC.

This Summer you promised me the # 1 QB in The SEC with Aaron Murray. He is in fact # 12 on the field and as a leader and off-the-field, he is the dead last worst as well. I cannot imagine prior to the Boise State game, that he would be so immature after nearly 4 years on our campus now to have sent a public Tweet that he was going to go whoop some Boise State a**.

Saturday, he fumbled one snap and was LUCKY enough to land on it.

He fumbled another Mark Richt said because he was hobbled, and did not put the ball into Isaiah Crowell returned to the 3-yard line and 1 play later a TD.

He threw an interception that was a PICK-6.

He got thrown the turf by a faster SEC DL than he is who is twice his size, like a rag doll, and coughed up the ball and never did get up to chase the 3 over-sized DL who lumbered their way into the end-zone to send the fans home with 2 score lead just prior to the end of the game.

If anything, this team is less than last year because of Aaron Murray. Last year, he was our best player. This year, he is the reason why we lost both games.

Did you get that ?

First, let me state, that I have been an avid CMR naysayer. But not anymore. And it’s not because of Saturday. However, UGA does need a change in coaches. I’ll get to that in a minute. CMR is the right man to get things turned around at UGA. He possesses the character and conviction, an ingredient he shares with every successful head coach in D1, to form great teams. The problem, throughout his tenure, is his ability to keep the “light” on for a full season, from game 1 to bowl game. Given time, say an extra 1-2 years, CMR will have UGA back in the top 10 or 15. Problem #2: The schedule gets harder and the conference(s) are getting bigger, deeper, and more versatile (imagine Alabama, Auburn, and VT added to the SEC East). I believe he kept going back to the well, using things that worked from 2001-05. But ever since that spanking by WVU in the Sugar Bowl, people saw how R. Rodriguez, Pete Carroll, and Meyer changed the game of college football by spreading the football out, teaching pro football techniques, and putting freshman in certain packages in order to get them on the field and maximize their contribution to the team. CMR continues to not trust his young players and has them working off of a “script” too often. The safe decision is better than taking risks. But risks wins championships, safe decisions give you 9.6 wins a year and lightning in the bottle. Greene over Shockley, redshirting Moreno, starting Tereshinski over Stafford, Cox over Murray or Mettenburger, Samuel over Crowell, etc. Let’s not forget about the finesse style of play, which has slowly caught up with the program. Even BVG ran a soft zone the majority of the time and over-relied on his front four to make plays, just like he does with the Falcons. In all, there is nothing wrong with CMR or his coaching methods/ style, it’s just grown stale at Georgia, from the recruiting methods to the demeanor of the players to the way the coaches prepare for games. Time and methods have passed him by in his current location. Maybe at UNC, they will work.

Of course they have a chance to win the rest of their games, but you know what…. so does Kentucky and Vandy. You have to be realistic however, and reality suggests that Missy State, Florida, and Auburn WILL beat the dawgs, and Tennessee has a very good chance to win also. And do not sleep on the North Avenue Trade School. CPJ has a better team than most people think, and that might be a hard game to win. Thomas Brown, I am not sure how many WRONG statements I can count in your post.

1. Mark Richt did NOT say the fumble was Aaron Murray’s fault, just that IC was taking too much of the blame for the fumble and that it was timing being off because of Murray being hobbled the previous play.

2. The size of a QB has been overblown in college for so long now.

3. He threw 8 INTs in his freshman season. Stafford never had less than 10.

4. He has NOT been on campus coming up on 4 years. 2008 he graduated from Plant High down here in Tampa and spent a limited amount of time after that on the UGA campus only as a result of the early graduation.

5. You crack on Murray for the fact that of his 9 losses, ONLY 7 were against top 25 teams. ONLY 7!!! How does the word ONLY even fit there. Kellen Moore as great as he is won’t face 7 top 25 teams in three full years.

6. Garcia’s line .. 11/25 142 YDS 1 TD 2 INTs … Murray’s line 19/29 248 YDS 4 TDs 1 INT

7. NO, The other QB was not always the better QB on the field during the 9 losses in Murray’s career. The team last year was certainly more than just the FRESHMAN QB. And again, if you try to tell me that Garcia was better than Murray on Saturday a drug test is in order.

8. Murray is 6-1, not 5-11 (not sure where you got that from but multiple sources, even ones during the recruiting process before he signed with UGA show him at 6-1, plus, he is taller than me and I am 5-11).

9. His last official listed 40 time was 4.5 as recorded from training camp last year. He doesn’t have a pro-day time obviously.

10. Lastly, though this is so much fun, a poor leader? Hardly something you have enough information to make any type of accurate statement on. But most of his teammates I bet would 100% disagree with you.

Later.

there is no one left on our schedule that you look at the game and say “that’s a sure loss”.

There are several teams that could beat us.

That will determine Richt’s coachingm future

The stuff about Murray is garbage. We have no other QB on campus who could have gone 11 for 11 after throwing the pick6 and we ahve no other QB on campus who can throw that last TD to King.

He made mistakes. He is human. That’s why we lost.

They fought like crazy and lost. The coaching staff didn’t give up and neither did the kids.

1. Liar, Mark Richt said Aaron Murray did not put the ball in there to Isaiah Crowell, and he further said that it was NOT Crowell’s fault. If you are going to correct, at least be correct.
2. The size of the QB is the size of the QB. What I saw Saturday was he was picked up and slammed to the turf like a rag doll.
3.Agreed Matthew Stafford was an is horrible on interceptions and fumbles. I said that every day for the 3 years he was here. Where were you, and how does that mitigate the fact that you said that Aaron Murray LOST the game for UGA with his 3 fumbles and interception for 21 points subtracted from what he did. In fact, Aaron Murray said that too.
4.2008 is year 1, 2009 he redshirted after having been here December 2008 practicing with the bowl team and enrolled early. 2010 he went 6-7 requiring us to go all the way back to 1953 to find an UGA team who lost more games than he 2010. 2011 is now. Let’s see 2008 2009 2010 2011 four.

5. I am so sorry to share with you this is The SEC. There are 7 SEC teams ranked in the Top 25 today. Only 7 of the 9 are against Top 25. You are supposed to be able to beat Top 25 teams if you are an SEC team. We don’t; he hasn’t. Wrong 5 in a row. By the way, what about the 2 losses to teams who even with their win over him (better QB than he), they did not finish in the AP Poll Top 25 ? This is UGA. You do NOT lose to teams not ranked. Of course, you are ranked yourself too – something we did not do in 2009, 2010 and are not for 2011. Can’t wait to hear those excuses. Really, just grow up.

Thomas Brown does this not sink in? First, here is the quote from Richt on the fumble: “Quarterback Aaron Murray was “hobbling” from a hit on the preceding play and “didn’t bring the ball as deep as he normally would,” Richt said. “Isaiah should have been more patient, but certainly the timing in my opinion was different because of Murray hobbling back there instead of really sprinting.”

No where in there does it say, “Yep it was all Aaron Murray’s fault”. Second, he was, again, NOT there in 2008. He graduated from high school early by finishing out at Plant in December of 2008. Sooo, can’t be at UGA then when you are working to graduate early. He was on campus early in 2009 for camps before national signing day. 2009, 2010 and most of 2011.

I believe he shoulders most of the blame for USCe, but not for so many of the other losses the last year plus.

As for that last little goofy line “You have not got 1 right yet. Game over.”, you need to get over yourself. I list 10 false statements in your post and you come back with 4 rebuttals, 2 didn’t make sense and 2 others were still FLAT WRONG.

Auburn is 2-0 but good very well be 0-2 as well, but winning teams find a way to win, while losing teams find ways to lose…clock management, time out management, FG vs TD management, special teams, time spent on field by both offense and defense,…it all adds up to setting yourself up to win or to lose….and we doing the latter, which is not the fault of the players….

@ TampaDawg,
Justin Wesley-Scott is earmarked as a WR. However, he is big, physical and fast. They are considering redshirting him due to the depth at WR. I wish they would give him the ball in the backfield (or some HB screens) and he will compliment Crowell in the running game. Why not try him out and see how it works? For that matter, play Nick Marshall some as well on O in the backfield. CMR needs to open-up all options to compliment Crowell and move Samuels back to D where we have a major hole now with both ILBs out.

Fact is, if not for the turnovers (and fake punt that scored), Dawgs would have beat USC by 3-4 touchdowns. Can blame Richt for a number of things…but those turnovers were just the fortunes of war so to speak. UGA isn’t a good team right now, but as a work in process…it was better than week one. That said, CMR needs 8 wins to keep his job. And can’t lose to Tech this year.

BIGMIKE

September 12th, 2011
1:58 pm

Let me remind some of you geniuses out there calling for Mark Richts head:

What we got 10 years ago, after a couple of longwinded failed attempts at aquiring a worthy head coach, is an untested offensive coordinator out of FLA ST that managed to win two SEC Championships and compete for a few more in addition to taking us to the brink of a National Championship.
Along the way he….by his own admission…. made some mistakes. Like the defensive coordinator change after losing Van Gorder, which was a biggie. There were other factors in his recent inefficiency like a less than adequate Athletic Director….the university saw fit to Fire Dooley….remember? And replaced him with a philandering drunk that didn’t provide much support. And his wife’s battle with cancer…if you don’t think that will effect a man’s focus…you need to walk a mile in those shoes (God Forbid).

SO WHAT! ………Those aren’t excuses…they are lessons and a man grows from them. He is a better football coach for it. Richt is and always has been a top notch football coach…he didn’t suddenly become inept. Bowden won Championships with him and we won Championships with. He will go on winning Championships whether its with UGA or some other school. So be careful what you wish for….cause if you push hard enough it just might become reality. Then what? Another round of “will the real Bulldog Coach please stand up”? We could get extremely lucky and land a good one the first time or it could destroy the program for years cause no sane coach would want a job where the fans turn a coach that just took them to wonderland for 6 years and had a down swing during a rebuilding phase.

These guys lose by 14 points to the number 4 team (and I believe eventual #1) in the nation and 3 points to the number 11 team in the nation and you want to rid the University of it’s most successful coach in decades. BRILLIANT! Did any of you really think this young team would step off the bus in August and be streamlined with no kinks ready for a run at the National Championship. That will happen next year or with a little help from some other teams possibly this year…remember LSU? By the end of the year, this team will be the class of the SEC

That’s why “FANS” don’t make decisions….Look what happen to Jacksonville when they dumped Coughlin, mainly due to the negative Fan Support and call for his head during a rebuilding stretch that brought more than the accustomed number of losses….Moreover, look what Coughlin accomplished within a few years of being fired from Jacksonville (SUPER BOWL CHAMPION and perennial Contender) while Del Rio had a few relatively successful seasons with the talent Coughlin had amassed prior to his departure. But Del Rio isn’t near the coach Coughlin was.

And let’s not forget what firing Fulmer did for the Great State of Tennessee.. Fulmer was rebuilding and was close….now they are still rebuilding and will be until their FANS understand the game. How about UGA/TECH FANS. When will you all understand what makes this college sport tick. What you say now will effect not just the players of today, but the players of tomorrow as well and you will only have yourselves to blame.

Go ahead and get rid of CMR and be prepared for the mediocrity that follows. If winning the SEC was as easy as getting a new coach, then there would be 11 new coaches in the SEC every year. The fabulous Saban that everyone refers to when denigrating Richt is done for a while. What should Alabama do when they don’t win next year….Fire him!??

Here we go again the UFA fair weather faithful trying to tell a coach who does this for.living how to do his job and they have absolutely no clue. First moving Samuel back to linebacker is stupid. By the time he relearns the position you have both your starters back, and their backups have been perfectly capable replacements. Lack of depth many times just means lack of experience not lack of skill. Second just because a guy is a walk on doesn’t mean he isn’t good enough to play or start. Not all schools are recruited equally. Just ask probowler clay Matthews. Third Samuel should still be starting at tailback. He had a good game also. It seemed like everytime he carried the ball the radio announcers were talking about him moving the pile. I had to listen to the game because I was driving home from preaching out of town. Crowell is still missing assignments. We need the experience to start. Plus a team needs two good backs. Ken malcome is 5th on the depth chart behind a Samuel, crowell, Thomas, and Harton; he may never carry the ball at UGA. Lastly we lost the game because of turnovers. That’s not coaching. They can’t go out there and throw the ball or hold the ball for them the players have to do that themselves. We can’t get outscored 21-3 on turnovers and win. The defense played well we just need to hold on to the ball, and take advantage of turnovers when we get the. So far this year we have 3 ponts off of 4 turnovers. Hold on to the ball and stop the fake punt and UGA dominated SC. Do the math that is about 28 points. Saying we don’t score on any of those it is 42 to 17. Coach Richt clearly out coached one of college footballs greatest coaches. Even spurrior admitted it. The difference is spurriors play makers made plays when they needed to

Your right. Hiring a new coach will never help. Moran! Just sit around and give CMR another ten (10) years to figure this thing out is your strategy……History repeats itself. We let Dooley stay way to long always pointing at the one NC he brought to UGA. Then they made horrible decisions in hiring Goof and Donnan. Pull the train or get the h3ll off the tracks!

FACTS: Mark Richt is tied for the position of the #7 of the most highly paid coaches in Div. 1 with Gene Chizik. The only other one on the list that has not won a national championship is Bobby Petrino. He makes about twice what Steve Spurrier currently makes.

For those that think that UGA is not an elite program, how many other programs could afford to pay this? Not many. And for that investment, a return is expected. A consistent slide to losing or even multiple loss seasons is not acceptable for many programs, and UGA is no different. Alumni and fans who contribute that kind of dough are not delusional to expect the program to compete nationally on a fairly regular basis. I think for fans of other programs in these sorts of forums it is a way to express both concern about the future, and jealousy that a program like Georgia can and will be able to get a top tier coach.

I don’t understand the example of Tennessee that has been repeated over and over the last couple of weeks. Fulmer’s situation is very similar to that of Richt. But Tennessee thought they had hired the coach of the future in Lane Kiffin and thenonly hired Derek Dooley last year. That is not really a steady decline that can be attributed to hiring a worse coach than Fullmer and that somehow Tennessee should have kept him because of the program being left in a rough spot after Kiffin left in the middle of the night.

TampaDawg

September 12th, 2011

First, calling someone a moron (or moran in Charlie Hayes’ example) for sharing an opinion backed by a few facts isn’t cool at all. BIGMIKE makes some great points also.

The Tennesse example is a valid one. Fulmer brings UT from obscurity to a national title, then has some decline for a couple of years and out he goes. Welcome back to obscurity UT!

Changing coaches doesn’t always prove to bring a title. Petrino was brought in and had a big time QB and it got them not much more than what they had (expensive price too).

The Chiczik thing is a bad example because that was more a case of Cam Newton (being brought in after getting kicked out of UF btw) winning than Chiczik coaching.

Saban is just Saban. The guy could flat out coach. Not a fan of his but he is good at what he does. USCe brought in Spurrier and they have yet to have less than 5 losses in a season.

Goff and Donnan took us to absolute mediocrity. I would say Richt has far exceeded that with six 10 win seasons and 2 SEC titles. Let him try to coach through it. It’s not like he has had a string of losing seasons. He has had ONE! The year before was 8-5. Let’s at least let this season play out before the many experts on here pile on to the fire CMR bandwagon.

It was more than a couple of years of decline for Phil Fulmer. I don’t know how old you are Tampa Dawg, but Tennessee was not obscure when Fullmer took over for Johnny Majors. The same thing happened. Majors was highly successful at Pitt (won a national championship) and had Tennessee vying for MNC every year through 1990. He won the SEC 3 times, which is one more than Fullmer. He was runner-up for the Heisman trophy to Paul Hornung in 1956 as a player. His resume was very similar to Steve Spurrier’s until he somehow started to decline. It happens. Coaches’ effectiveness as far as scheme and other factors decline and change is often a breath of fresh air to a program if the right guy comes in. I personally think that Tennessee made a poor choice in Kiffin and waited too long in making a change so that recruiting was greatly affected. You are right in the sense that UGA could do worse if they try to hire a guy based solely on a playing history with the school like Goff as opposed to not worrying so much about where the guy played or how good he was as a player, but what his track record is as a coach IN RECENT YEARS. I think in the long run
Tennessee still made a wise choice, and I think most of their fans would agree. Tennessee should not accept mediocrity and neither should Georgia for $3.5 million a year. Chizik still hired Malzahn, got Newton to come to Auburn, and I think his team likes playing for him. Look to Saturday’s performance for that.

How can you blame any of that on the coaches or the players? That’s just the way the football bounces.

As for the first game, I don’t think anyone could beat Boise State — they’re just that good. We can’t afford to fire our coach while we’re right on the verge of greatness. Have some patience people! We can still go 10 and 2!

Speaking of 10-2 Excuse Me, Stewart Mandel (hardly a Georgia fan) had this to say:

“No question, Richt is down to his ninth life. His kind demeanor, respect in the community and .727 winning percentage have already helped him last longer than the typical SEC coach in this same situation, but fans can only take “we’re getting better” for so long. Provided the players don’t get discouraged, the Dawgs are fully capable of rallying to a nine-win season and possible division title, which is probably what it would take at this point to save Richt’s job.”

JR, true enough. I am close to 40 just as an FYI. Johnny Majors had 7 seasons at UT with 5 losses or more. We have two and people want CMR gone. Johnny Majors coached for nearly 16 seasons at UT but would have never made it past the first 5 with this fan base. He may not have made it past the second 5 either.

Fulmer lost 21 games his last 4 years with two of those years being losing seasons and no bowl birth. No bowl birth means no post season money for the school either.

Peterson will not come to UGA. He could have left LONG time ago. Peterson is used to coaching players that actually want to go to college, stay four years. His system requires that kind of player. Players suspended for the first x games, arrests, leaving school early for all kinds of reasons. Those players are not worth the extra ” * ” on the ESPN recruiting list if you actually coach verses pit athlete verses athlete.

This is rely simple. Let’s see what kind of game plan Mike Bobo calls when UGA visits Ole Miss. Will they stick with a similar plan or go back to that silly, ineffective spread passing game? Obviously they fixed a lot of problems, but Bobo’s problem had been inconsistent play-calling and underperformance of the offense. Jobs are on the line here, so let’s see what happens. I loved the way they talked “spread” prior to the South Carolina game then lined up and grinded it out very effectively. Can they keep it up? If they do, they can still win 9 games, but I am afraid the SEC schedule will prevent that. 8-4 at best, 7-5 most likely. That said, only way this staff is retained is if they beat Florida and finish 8-4 OR finish 9-3 (a tall order).

To all the arm chair coaches and know it alls. You do not fire a coach in the middle of the season in college. It is not the NFL where you can fire a coach in the middle of the season and promote someone as an interim coach. You would never be able to recruit. Espeically with an interim head coach who in all likely hood will be gone in a couple of months.

If McGarity gives Richt the axe ( I do not think it will happen, espcially since Richt has taken over play calling), here is a short list of coaches that will get first looks:

Kirby Smart (not sure if I want him)
Charlie Strong ( Would love to have him having worked within his program and is a possibity)
Bud Foster
Gus Mahlzan
Dan Mullen (notice is Mullen with an EN not IN, for the people who can not spell)

1) Alabama 26-3 (.897)
2) Auburn 24-5 (.828)
3) Florida 23-6 (.793)
4) LSU 22-6 (.786)
5) Arkansas 20-8 (.714)
6) SCarolina 18-11 (.621)
7) Miss St. 15-12 (.556)
8) Tennessee 15-13 (.535)
8) Kentucky 15-13 (.535)
10) Ole Miss 14-13 (.519)
11) GEORGIA 14-14 (.500)
12) Vanderbilt 6-20 (.230)

As they say all that matters is wins and losses and from the past two seasons to this season only ONE team in the SEC has won less and lost more than UGA. That is an OUTRAGE !!!

yall can forget peterson; he is not a fit here. like someone wrote earlier, it’s easier coaching athletes who have to “try hard” in order to be the best instead of thoroubreds. Plus, there are more details, fundraisers, player issues, media pressures, fan expectations, more boosters and alumni to satisfy, etc. The job is too big for the man right now, especially coming after a coach who won over 70% of his games. Once again, the best candidate, should UGA be quick to pull the trigger, is Charlie Strong. All he needs is an OC. The defensive side of the ball is the most important and Strong has that on lock. Sure, he doesn’t have the same resume as Peterson as an HC, but he has played against, coached against, and recruited against UGA, and every other school important on UGA’s schedule. Peterson has not had to coach against Meyer one week, then Saban, then Mullen, Miles, then Spurrier, and yes, CMR almost every season. How will he handle injuries to star players when big games come up? Familiarity with the SEC or the South in general? Here is a dream scenario, which I know will never happen: Hire Cgarlie Strong as HC and Rich Rodriguez as OC.

Sorry Jose, but you can’t hire Malzahn over Mullen or Strong. I dare say it’s much more important to get a defensive guy like Strong or Tuberville. Why Georgia should be thinking about a coaching change…..
1-Georgia is a combined 0-5 against Top 25 teams in 2010 and 2011 and has lost 10 of its last 12 against ranked teams.
2- richt is now 14-14 in his last 28 games
3- Lets look at the remaining schedule. Games they will probably lose: 1- Miss St. 2- Tenn 3-Florida 4-Auburn. Games we should win (if we don’t have an off week): 1- Costal Carolina, 2-Miss, 3- Kentucky, 4- New Mexico, 5-Tech, 6-Vandy. LOOKS LIKE A 50/50 CHANCE OF ANOTHER LOSING SEASON.

Matthews Dawg with all due respect you are just wrong there is no excuse for players losing focus game after game in crucial situations. That goes to coaching every year it seems we get burnt on fake punts because our guys do not check to make sure the ball was punted. How many times does this have to happen before Coach Richt gets in his assistants face, sits these guys on the bench and/or fires an assistant because he isn’t doing his job in keeping these guys focused. The worst part of it is we don’t even attempt to block or return punts anymore as they usually fair catch them as witnessed on Saturday. When South Carolina did punt on 2 occasions the guy out kicked his coverage and there wasn’t a SC defender within 10 yards and our player fair caught it and it flipped the field on us.

It is obvious preferential treatment has been given to Richt by UGA administrators that was not given to his predecessor, Jim Donnan. Richt, for whatever the reason has been given more than the benefit of the doubt and UGA’s performances over the last 3 going on 4 years are reflective of it. The mediocrity is obvious in the records of 8-5, 6-7, and now a 0-2 start this year. Richt’s 2-8 record versus UGA’s top rival, Florida does not matter and is acceptable with UGA administrators and delusional fans. It’s little wonder that Richt is a mediocre 6-9 in the last 15 games and UGA is a pathetic 14-14 in it’s last 28 outings. This plain and simple is totally unacceptable and only Vanderbilt has a worse record overall than UGA in the SEC over the course of the last two seasons combined with this season. Even when Richt went 10-3 in 2008 that season was considered a major disappointment because of the hype that misled everyone to believing an overrated and undercoached UGA would go undefeated and win championships.

The truth about UGA’s predicament with Richt is he’s trying to run the program from his old 1990s FSU/ACC playbook. Only problem is that was nearly twenty years ago. Richt thinks if you put great talent around a sub par or average QB then that QB’s game will magically elevate to the level of players around him. This is why UGA’s current decline began with over-rated, undersized Joe Cox, (who supposedely never lost a high school game) at qb and continues with average talent, smallish, Adam Murray. The Richt/Bobo braintrust will continue to bring in overhyped, average or below average qbs and and stick with them for an entire season despite the need to take a look at other options. Thus because overrated, undersized Murray was so highly recruited there’s no way he is in danger of being replaced as a starting qb despite how poorly he performs in critically situations. The real reason UGA was competitive against Carolina was the emergence of a running game led by Crowell. The O-line finally responded and created running lanes. The SC game proved UGA must run to win in the SEC and finally exposed the fact that Murray is not that much better than red headed Joe Cox at quarterback. With Adam Murray at qb UGA has yet to defeat a team with a winning record despite all the stats and preseason all SEC hype. He is undersized and needs a lot of one on one coaching from a good qb coach just to basically be a “point guard”or properly distribute the ball to the real playmakers on the offense. But this falls on Richt, because Bobo can’t be an offensive coordinator and qb coach, because he’s simply not that good at either job position. So UGA will continue to live and die as they did against SC, because of a lack of coaching and Richt’s dependency on the God given ability or talent of certain players in key positions. Thus the players are just like the OC, they will learn on their on in gametime conditions and when they come up short as a result of their mistakes it’s okay, because Richt sees their potential for greatness in the future.

There is no way Richt should be retained after the end of this season. But since UGA administrators don’t do their high paying jobs either, hopefully Ohio State or North Carolina will lure the Richt problem off of UGA’s hands. But the scary part is the lazy, empty-headed, fatcat UGA administrators won’t do their jobs again and will probably run out and find someone worse than Richt as head coach. Jim Tressel, Skip Holtz, or Gus Malzahn anyone ?! LOL! The entire program is a joke and universal laughingstock at this point.

Let’s start a new head coach wishlist. I think Tommy Tuberville would love to get back in the SEC. He has a great resume and knows how to win in the SEC. UGA desperately needs a proven coach and no more first timer bums or pretenders with no head coaching experience. Skip Holtz is walking in his dad’s footsteps and is building his record for a run at the Notre Dame job so he isn’t serious about coaching in the job killer SEC. Auburn OC, Gus Malzahn has no head coaching experience so would he be much of an upgrade if he came to UGA with the same credentials as Richt. Uh that’s okay, let’s move on. Boise’s Peterson might be waiting on the UCLA job to open at the end of the season so he can stay on the west coast. Dan Mullen has a lot of potential, but why would he come to a such delusional fanbase like Georgia has over the Miss St. fanbase who are thankful for 7,8,or 9 wins per year. He could coach the Maroon Dawgs for life under those expectations. Jim ” the Liar” Tressel would be a perfect fit for the UGa Kook Delusional fanbase that loves drinking head coach kool-aid(lies), but I don’t think the Dawgs are ready for probation associated with body art and making it rain cash to the players. Besides UGA already has enough players who are years overdue for a haircut so you definately don’t want to add a Tressel to that mix.

I give up. I don’t know who could possibly be the next head coach at UGA. One thing is for sure the current guy is definately on his way out. Even former Miami Hurricane coach Randy Shannon went 16-10 (.635) in his last 26 games. And for that record the the UM administration promptly dismissed him after a disappointing loss to USF. Currently at UGA Richt is 14-14 (.500) in UGA’s last 28 games with an extremely disappointing loss to UCF in the Liberty bowl. His 14-14 record places UGA in 11th place out of the 12 SEC teams. So what does this mean ? Apparently the people in charge at the “U” are smarter and more progressive than the people calling shots at UGA when in comes to hiring/firing head football coaches.

Next big game for UGA: Sept.24,2011, The Hotseat Bowl versus Ole Miss in Oxford.

It’s not like he has had a string of losing seasons. He has had ONE! The year before was 8-5. Let’s at least let this season play out before the many experts on here pile on to the fire CMR bandwagon.”

TampaDawg September 12th, 2011 4:37 pm

“No bowl birth means no post season money for the school either.”

Ok, so what we have here is, is a RICHT-0-FILE ? Is it fair to admit that, that you want Mark Richt to remain at UGA, no matter what ?

1. You compare Mark Richt to Ray Goff and Jim Donnan. Is this the measure by which you want Mark Richt to remain, what Ray Goff and Jim Donnan, did here ?
2. Would you admit that we added a game after those 2 left, not that I will allow you to measure Mark Richt, compared to Ray Goff and Jim Donnan, that now we play 12 regular season games compared to them playing 11-game regular seasons ?
3. Not sure what 8-5 for 2009 point is; it is not clear; but, from posts after that, you seem to hold only 5-Loss years or worse, against any coach. And, you do so matter what level of competition they lost 5 games or more against.
4. No bowl berth for SEC schools absolutely does not mean no post-season monies for the school. Vandie gets a cut of all our bowl berths. If I need to explain revenue-sharing let me know. You seem perfectly capable of understanding it, without me. This is just an incorrect statement.

Now, let’s back-up and look at the big picture, instead of your view of Mark Richt compared to Ray Goff. Can we do that ?

Mark Richt said he came here because of the talent we have here, that the cupboard is not bare, and because of the recruiting base and that this is 1 of the few schools he would consider, as an unproven assistant coach to be head coach, now given in excess of $3.5 m total compensation annually. Skills such as hiring and firing a football staff, he had no experience at to indicate either way that he would do that well, or not. 11 years TampaDawg, you should have as good a handle on this as could be expected. How has he been doing at this for these 11 years now TampaDawg ?

This is now the 2nd time you ask me to go all through the 11 years. I tried to post them to you in reply that day, but I saw no reply, so I guess you missed them. It took me a good bit of time to put it together for you. I called you lazy to make me do it. 2002 there was 1 other team in the entire SEC who ended up in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25, Auburn # 14 who beat Alabama but lost 4 games. This is not a top football team. Agree ? Disagree ?

2002 Mark Richt lost to a 5-Loss Florida, using your methods for bad year by a coach, who finished not ranked in either Poll, because their 5 losses included losing to a 6-Loss, your method, and included losing to (2) two 5-Loss, using your methods, teams. On this day, our # 52 average for all 11 years NCAA Total Offense, had 11 third downs and converted -0-. Against this team, I believe you will agree was not a worthy opponent. Agreed or Disagreed TampaDawg ?

2007 lost to 6-Loss, using your methods on this blog, South Carolina team who did not even play in a bowl game – they did however share in the SEC Revenue Sharing and this includes a huge sum of monies earned by the conference for bowl games, the bowl game portion sent from the schools who earned it (not all of it mind you but huge sums) for all to share, including South Carolina 2007.

2007 Florida ended up # 13, a 4-Loss team beat by lowly Michigan, great team we beat ?

2007 Auburn ended up # 15, a 4-Loss team beat by South Florida & Missy State, great team Mark Richt beat ?

2007 Hawai’i ended up ranked # 19, is this a great team we beat ?

These are our only wins 2007, and notice if you will that what they try to float past you is that they say that Mark Richt was hosed in 2007 by the BCS, that he should have played in the NC game and that he would have won, they say. Yet, again, what they will not discuss with you, is that LSU had wins just like these 3 wins over not so great teams, but LSU also had two (2) wins over teams who finished in the AP Poll Top 10, while please note that Mark Richt (as he has ALWAYS done in the years he was supposed to be so great) has ZERO -0- wins over any team who finished in the AP Poll Top 10. How was Mark Richt cheated out of the National Championship in 2007 when he lost to hapless vols in a blow-out and lost to a team who ended the season 6-6 and did not even play in a bowl game. This entire 2007 season was OVER early for Mark Richt with these HORRID LOSSES 2007, and no team on the schedule who finished in the AP Poll Top 10. As this season, 2011, we don’t face the 3 top SEC West teams, we did not face LSU in 2007, and BLEW OUR CHANCES at getting to play them with these head-scratching losses. The facts are we had an easy schedule 2007, and FAILED to take advantage of it, as we are doing already for 2011.

Thomas Brown

2002 there were other teams who had a far more impressive resumme than Mark Richt put up. Agree or Disagree ? LSU in The SEC was far more impressive a resumme than Mark Richt put up. Agree or Disagree ?

Mark Richt in 11 seasons, and I love the guy – always have always will – has played 13 games vs teams who finished that season in the AP Poll Top 10. He has won 3 :

(1) 2001 knocking the lid off the # 11 all-time program in 1-A FBS wins, beat # 4 vols, but he ended the season the # 5 SEC team in the AP Poll and lost 4 games.

(2) 2005 he beat # 6 LSU, but he ended the season the # 3 SEC team in the AP Pioll and lost 3 games.

(3) 2006, this 2006 season was 6 seaons ago now, he beat the # 9 Auburn team; but, he lost 4 games again 2006 including the loss to Vandie a team who won 4 games including the win over Mark Richt.

Please do not give me a load of excuses for all this. You are accomplishing nothing with excuses and comparisons to Ray Goff. I am not in the least scared of who our next coach might be, and I have read every post you ever wrote. If the next coach does, as Mark Richt has done, keeping UGA in the BAD PRESS every single YEAR all 11 years, he will be fired. My $10,000 a year spent supporting this team, these players and his coaching staff, makes it clear that I have some semblance of reality when I tell you plainly TampaDawg that what bothers me most, is not the # 2 Fulmer Cup All-Time Standings – which started in 2006, when from 2001 to 2006 Mark Richt was # 1. And, it has nothing to do with him running off 26 scholarship football players from his # 7 avg of both Rivals and Scout.com all 11 recruiting classes, these 26 I have specifically named in the last year which he ran off.

It has to do with his 3-10 record vs teams who finished that season in the AP Poll Top 10 all 11 years.

I has to do with his 16 losses vs teams who finished that season not in the AP Poll Top 25 all 11 years, although 6 of those 11 made it into the Top 25 barely – but only by beating him.

This is not just only 1 year of 5-Losses and 1 year of 7-losses, which requires us by the way to go back 58 years to find an UGA coach who managed to lose more than he just lost last season.

This is 11 years of losing to the top teams in the nation (AP Poll Top 10 you brag about in every post for Mark Richt) that year at 3-10 and another 16 losses in 11 years vs teams who would not have finished in the AP Poll Top 25 even, had they not beat him that year – and 10 of those 16 still did not, even with their win over him.

We don’t develop our back-up QB, don’t recruit key positions we just absolutely are in dire need of that season, and we sit in a state only 3 others have more high school recruits who go to the NFL. There is no chance that we can do any worse than that which we are in fact doing.

Anyway, you say replace him at the end of the season. So, where do we disagree, really ?

CMR isn’t capable of managing a winning SEC football program. One of the biggest problems is CMR doesn’t even know where he has problems. His OC is well below average and should have been replaced years ago. He didn’t have enough knowledge to replace his DC until forced. His strength and conditioning program has been addressed and is still way below average. Case in point is the first 3 minutes of the second half of the Boise debacle and the 4th quarter of the South Carolina game. UGA was LAST in the conference to hire a nutritionist. LAST. The team still doesn’t have a dedicated building or specific room to be used for their NCAA allowed one special meal a day. The rest of the SEC has such a dining area. Again, the problem isn’t money; its CMR doesn’t even know he needs such a dining room to be competitive. We gave up a touchdown on a fake punt against South Carolina. When is CMR going to figure out we need a special teams coach?

The roster management is horrible. Once again, UGA doesn’t have enough OL on scholarship. How can a team with 85 potential scholarships have to resort to having a walk on take the majority of snaps at ILB after ONE injury?

CMR can’t get the concept that recruiting is an every year job. For 2012, UGA currently has two commitments from the ESPN top 20 in Georgia. UGA doesn’t have a commitment from ANY LB or RB. UGA’s recruiting class for 2012 is ranking 31st and that just won’t cut it. Hire Kirby Smart and hope he grows into the position. We already know CMR has grown out of the position.

chuck, very well said. And, I know it pains you to have say these examples. You know, of course, what the RICHT-0-FILES, the Mark Richt Apologists, the hey it’s just 2 games, the hey you cannot say that before opening kick-off of the season, the hey he’s only had 1 losing season, and 1 5-Loss season, the hey we might hire Ray Goff all over again, the hey Jim Donnan was no good with his 19 losses in his 5 seasons, never mind the 21 losses for Mark Richt his last 5 seasons, the hey it’s not Mark Richt’s fault crew, the hey it’s the players’ faults crew mimicking Mark Richt who knows what the blazes he is doing begging the question why did the offense look so inept in game 1 and game 2 gave up 21 points, and begging every question you just asked, the hey give him to the end of the season, the hey you cannot say that about the coach crowd, the hey you are a Georgia tek fan, the hey you are just a complainer group, the hey is it Mark Richt’s fault that only 1 other team in 2002 from the entire SEC made it into finishing in the Coaches’ Poll Top 25 # 14 Auburn with their 4-Loss Season despite Mark Richt going 0-11 on 3rd Down Conversions vs a 5-Loss Florida team who didn’t finish in the Top 25 AP Poll or Coaches’ Poll with their 3 losses 2 to 5-loss teams and 1 to 6-loss team but they beat Mark Richt and well Mark Richt was just unlucky 2002, the hey 2007 he ended up ranked # 2 in the nation when he played no one and all those did play play someone really really good lost when everyone knows LSU was so much better than Mark Richt 2007 having beat two Top 10 teams in the Final AP Poll Top 10 to Mark Richt beating none, the hey Mark Richt won 3 other relatively competitive games in 2007 but so did LSU, the hey Mark Richt was hosed in 2007 by the BCS crowd, the hey Mark Richt I would rather have than Nick Saban, the hey Auburn cheated crowd, the hey we are better than South Carolina in the game we just botched apologists where in this sport the better team is measured on the scoreboard.

They will just say that Mark Richt has earned the right to go 13-13 vs SEC East the last 6 consecutive years and he has earned the right to go 14-14 vs all opponents in his last 28 games.

Or, they will say nothing.

@Dwayne….are you kidding me? Kirby Smart? Don’t fool yourself into thinking that Kirby Smart is the mastermind of the Alabama defense. Saban is probably one of the best defensive minded coaches in college football, and I guarantee he holds the reins. That’s all we need is another ex-UGA player as a head coach.

At Chuck-
Wrong. Kent Turene is on the ‘12 class as a LB. Also, Leonard Floyd (6-4 215) is an OLB, not a DE as listed. Georgia is in the hunt for Keith Marshall (an avid UGA fan) which would be our second #1 RB pull in two years. Our current class ranking is #17 (according to ESPN) and #24 acoording to Rivals. From 08-11 we signed 19 OL. That’s exactly on track with your 4-5 linemen a year, so I don’t see where that’s a failure. No one could have predicted that Sturdivant would have 3 knee injuries, or that Harmon and Benedict would split. Hell, we already have 3 linemen commited for this class, so how is that a recruiting failure? More research, less tongue-wagging please, UpChuck?
