Mark Richt: Georgia a young team that ‘will get better exponentially’

Here’s some quotes from players and coaches after Georgia’s 45-42 loss to South Carolina Saturday night at Sanford Stadium. . . .

Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt:

“That was an exciting game. The score didn’t turn out the way we wanted. Losing is no fun.”

“South Carolina is a tremendous team, and I think Georgia’s a darn good team if we don’t help the opponent too much.”

“As head coach, I saw an awful lot of great ingredients in this game. I saw a lit fight from our guys, I saw some outstanding plays at crunch time, I saw banged-up guys sucking it up and going. I saw I a lot of resiliency. We can be very good football team, we just had too many giveaways.”

“I thought we kept fighting. We took the lead a couple of times and never gave in. The clock just ran out on us, basically.”

“I wouldn’t say we’re young across the board, but we have enough young people we’re counting on that we’ll get better exponentially.”

“I think the Eastern Division will be decided down the road and I think we’re going to be in the middle of it. I think everybody needs to wait and let it play out.”

“There were so many bad things that happened to us, it would’ve been easy to lay down and die, but we didn’t.”

On play Murray was sacked and fumbled . . .

“We had a slip screen called and their five technique [tackle] went inside and I don’t think Cordy [Glenn] got a hand on him. If you’re gonna get sacked, you get sacked. But Murray had to hold onto the ball there.”

On Isaiah Crowell . . .

“Isaiah is a dynamic player. He got busted in the ribs early in the game and had a hard time breathing. He showed some toughness to be able to finish.”

“We’ve definitely been through some really tough games, games that take a lot of guts, energy and games where you need the majority of things to go right to get the victories. We lost and we understand that. But we’re going to be a  good football team. We’re resilient enough to shake it off and make the corrections.”

On throwing his head phones and play cards . . .

“I guess I wanted to show people that I could get mad. I threw them pretty far, too. If I had a visor on I would have slammed it down.”

“We have a tight-knit group. Our guys love each other and believe in each other. We will tweak a couple of things and be in good shape. The future is still very bright. We’ve just got to do things to get results on the scoreboard.”

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier:

“I’ve never won a game like this that I can remember,” Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier said. “Georgia outplayed us. Give them credit, they outplayed us, but somehow or another we won the game. Sometimes it happens like that. Somebody was looking out for us tonight.”

QB Aaron Murray

On the interception…

“I think I just threw it a little behind Orson [Charles]. There was pressure, it was a tight window, and you have to put those right on the money, and I didn’t. The defender made a great play on it.”

On the game…

“I think we had great plays on both sides of the ball. We had some great plays on offense, and the defense had some awesome plays. We just gave up too many big plays and those mistakes hurt us. We can be a great football team, we have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but those four turnovers hurt us.”

On the miscues . . .

“Every mistake we made was big. It stinks to five points away in a ballgame like that. We gave away 28 points tonight. You can’t do that in any game, much less an SEC game.”

TB Isaiah Crowell:

“I hate to lose, but we have to deal with it. We have to come out this week and be ready to work. There isn’t time to put our heads down.”

On what happened on the fumble . . .

“I made a small pocket and the ball hit my hand. It was my fault. I should’ve made a bigger pocket.”

On being put back on the field after the fumble…

“I learned that they have confidence in me. [The fumble] was my fault. I told them it wouldn’t happen again. It was nice to get back out there so I could try to redeem myself.”

On the outlook for the season . . .

“The window is still open to win the East and that’s what we’re focused on.”

LB Christian Robinson:

On the game…

“They made some great plays, and we didn’t do what we needed to do. It’s disappointing, but we’re going to go back to the film room, look at our mistakes and get better.”

On critics…

“It’s our job to get the job done, and we didn’t do that today. It’s not the coaches, it’s us. We played our hearts out and just didn’t finish. I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”

CB/KR Brandon Boykin

On mood in the locker room after the loss…

“People were disappointed, but no matter what, we all know that we have to come back on Monday ready to work. We know that we’re capable of winning a lot of games, and winning close games. We’re ready to get back out on the field.”

On kickoff returns…

“I told [the team] before the game that I was going to give all I got. The blockers did a great job of opening the holes, and I just got myself through the holes. I was happy I was able to give the offense good field position.”

OLB Jarvis Jones:

If you play this game long enough you’re going to lose a game like this. It’s tough. This is the SEC. You make mistakes and good teams are going to capitalize on it and that’s what they did.”

Go Dawgs. Never forgetting 9/11/01 sure puts football into perspective. Lose a game, Life goes on. Never give up. The players are not publicly blaming anyone but themselves (Crowell’s ownership of the fumble). Adversity makes you stronger. When times are always good, you never find out what you are made of. By the way, losing stinks.

Those guys played their guts ouit tonight and I am proud of them. The Ol was probably the most improved unit out there tonight and did a terrific job most of the game. Take away one pick and UGA has the victory. S.C. is really not that good, so I think the East division is still wide open. UGA has just got to cut down on the mishaps and they will win. They put forth the effort tonight and the mistakes they made cost them the game. They out played S.C. tonight but sometimes, it doesn’t matter. It is not a moral victory because there is no such thing in football, but it should boost the morale of the entire team.
Anybody that says Crowell is not going to be great is kidding themselves. This kid is going to be a great one before he leaves for the NFL.
It also seemed tonight that CMR had a little fire with him. That had to help the team because they never gave up. They know they could have one it with one more break or one less mistake.

Look for Mark Wretch to ballyhoo wins over inferior opponents to compile a smoke and mirrors mark. The two tests true Dawgs fans were interested in have already passed. Both were dismal failures! One was lost shot at return to prominence. Other was SEC killer! True Dawg fans know rest of season is just playing out string. That is the truth!

Has it been mentioned that the best receiver on the field had ZERO catches? And the only time he was thrown to, he shouldn’t have been thrown to (interception). There’s no excuse for that, whatsoever.

The whole team looked better tonight than from last week. We gave up too many big plays but overall the players played well and the coaches came with a good game plan. I am disappointed with the loss but I am encouraged for the rest of the season especially if we can continue to improve from week to week the way we did tonight. Go Dawgs GATA

I agree with Chris. We grew up alot and as I read on ESPN.com we’re the only team starting the season with 2 Top 15 oponents. I think we’ll be fine. SC is a good team and Boise is a great team (okay I am a believer now). I think we’ll be fine. Not sure if we’re an 8 or 9 win team but we definitely have the talent and heart to win against anyone else on the schedule. I definitely believe that the play calling was MUCH better than any I’ve seen on both sides of the ball in the last 3 years. Great response Dawgs. If we grow between 2 & 3 as much as between 1 & 2… we’ll be a force by year’s end.

Aaron Murray should take responsiblity fort this L. The fumble he had sealed the game. Can’t make those plays as UGA’s leader…Crowell had that “factor back” mentality. If Richt doesn’t start him, he’s an idiot…Defense had to stop the run! I know Lattimore is a stud, but Boise State RB found holes the same way. Secondary did ok, but our front seven gotta get to the runners……CHUUUUUUCH.

I am very pleased with the strong effort from the team. If they continue that effort, and clean up the problems with protecting the ball, they’ll win a lot of games. As Coach Irk Russell would say, “Gentlemen (and Linemen), you showed tremendous fight today.”

The problem at Georgia, I think, is that it has become a program that lives off ‘what could have been’ and not wins and losses. The fans get excited over the potential, and year after year, settle for medicrity. You don’t see the Alabama’s, LSUs and Florida’s accepting losing, even when they outplay their opponents, but lose the game.

Georgia played much better tonight but that still doesn’t change the fact that our coaching staff is mediocre, at best. I love Coach Richt and the class act that he is, but he is paid to win games, and his record over the past 4 years tells the story. Time for a new regime. No more “let’s give him another year or 2 with these players”. The story will be the same 2 years from now.

I know we lost, but I feel good about our team. We can get on a roll here with this schedule coming up. Crowell should be the starter from now on. No doubt about it. If he gets the ball 30 times a game, he’ll carry us to an SEC title. I expect SC to lose more than 1 SEC game. This season is not over by any means. We can still go to the SEC title.

You only get so many opportunities to win the game that will turn the program around. CMR is running out of mulligan’s. UGA might have forgotten how to win. However, the turn-around and game plan was a shock to me. Kudos to CMR and Bobo. Just wondering why they didn’t do that against Boise. And that is the crux of it with CMR. He was desparate this week, so he scrimmaged TWICE and UGA ran out of the I and established the run. After UGA runs off about 4 wins in a row against this easy schedule, he will revert back to not scrimmaging in practice and throwing out of the shotgun every down. That’s when he will lose to someone he’s not supposed to lose too and why he won’t beat UF or AU. However, tonights performance gives him the right to try to make something of the seasdon and save his job. I just don’t think he will do it. I hope I’m wrong.

I was really dissappointed after last week’s game. After todays game not so much. I think we improved by leaps and bounds just had too many costly turnovers. This team showed me a lot of potential and heart. If we can keep improving going forward and hold onto the ball then there’s no doubt in my mind that we will win the majority of our remaining games. One last point that I hope our coaches take to heart is ALWAYS be ready for a fake punt. It seems almost always we get suckered in on the fake punt. Keep your heads up DAWGS and GATA.

Jarvis Jones is a beast. Crowell ran well. Glad to see more of Figgins as a lead blocker and cathing balls out of the backfield. I like the sweep plays when Figgins is the lead blocker. So let me get this straight? Since we weren’t completely dominated this week, we accept the return to the status quo of the last 5 years: generally outplaying the opponent but losing because we commit stupid penalties, make special teams mistakes, turnover the ball at the worst times, make dumb calls at the end of the game, and then let the other team walk over us when we need the key stop at the end of the game (though it is hard to blame the D for this one….)? Really? Really?

I have been pretty patient with CMR. Lord knows he was a dramatic improvement over the Goof and the Buldozer. BUT he has made too many mistakes. Squandered too much talent. UGGGHHHHH!!!!!

Yes the DAWGZ played alot better this week with that said. I keep hearing all this “we will be a better team by the end of the season” do you see LSU FLORIDA ALABAMA AUBURN or any good SEC team saying oh we will be better by the end of the season? NO!!! And having this mentality is why UGA is quickly becoming a glorified Vanderbilt!!! UGA has the talent to be a top 5 team EVERY YEAR!! Mark richt is not the man for the job he always has some lame excuse and “we still have more to look forward to” bull crap. He gets paid millions every year to get these DAWGZ ready to play before the season not be better half way through the season. His outlook on we lost the game oh well we lost this one blah blah is the reason he will NEVER take UGA to the national championship game. Go ahead and say im not much of a fan because I am if uga was to not win a single game im still gonna sport my G!!! Im sick of the coaching staff

Lads, yes loosing sucks, but the Dawgs will be just fine. It would not surprise me in the least if Crowell wins a Heisman before the NFL calls his name. And AM has mad game–he’s just a fricking Sophomore. Don’t forget, these are kids out there playing the game of football. And don’t be surprised if the Dawgs go 11-2…Don’t be a fool and fire Coach Richt like Tennessee did when they fired Fulmer. Or the Braves when they fired Bobby Cox back in the day, or the Falcons when the fired Lehman Bennett. Richt is a good coach. Is he too nice a guy? Maybe. Do the players love him? Absolutely. Let the season play out. Imagine how good Crowell will be after a full season under his belt?

Hey, Almost doesn’t count:
The only reason Georgia was relevant in the SEC is Coach Richt. Prior to that it was Dooley in the early 80s and then he settled in for 8 or 9 wins a year with no real threat to winning the SEC. See second comment about adversity. I get frustrated and even angry at the game and losing but in the end, who you are shows. Opinions are just that, opinions. No one wants to lose, but it happens. I’m guessing Oklahoma fans are glad they stuck with Stoops. Adversity makes you stronger. We want to win now, yes, but giving up will never lead to winning.

What the heck was Georgia before Coach Richt came along? A speed bump for Tennessee and Florida. Whatever self respect Georgia has had since Dooley left was earned by Mark Richt. These coaches obviously did their jobs today and in practice last week. I remember a few years back, folks were touting USCe’s defensive coordinator as what UGA needed. Well, Bobo and our offense shredded his rear today. Coach Grantham finally got some pass rush today. There were three plays that changed the momentum of the game today and the boys were able to overcome all of them except the last one. Murray knows he gave 14 points to the other side. The players are showing accountability. This season isn’t over, no matter how many times a bunch of sad sacks claim it to be. I will just take comfort in the fact that the vocal minority has no control over personnel decisions.

ESPN calling the local fans out is not exactly embarrassing. They are a national stating based in the NE. They really could care less if we continue to play 500 ball and lose to every good team we play. Honestly, our rivals are wanting us to keep CMR as much as I wanted Tech to keep Gailey.

Oh Brother, UGA is not a winner because we are not Alabama or LSU. We never will be. You should accept that we will win one or two SEC championships every 20 years or so. People should’nt get down this is only the second game of the season. I don’t accept this loss at all this was a game uga should’ve won but looking at the next 10 games, it seems like the best team out the bunch is florida. The next five games are coastal carliona, ole miss, miss state, tennessee, and vanderbilt. i saw miss state today today and they did’nt look so hot and tennessee depth wise isn’t that great and ole miss isn’t that good so all you bangwagon fans need to cut the garbage because uga can win the next five games and i tought the loss stunk but this is a very long season.

This still could be a 9 or 10 win team (I drink the kool aid) considering that the toughest teams on the schedule left are Fl and, Miss St. I know Aub should have lost and, I don’t think much of Tn but, this team could come out with the same fight over the next couple of week and, build off of those wins. CMR is a nice guy. Fine. But we’re not paying him millions of dollars to be a nice guy. We’re paying him millions of dollars to win football games. And he’s not getting the job done.

Ace70 has it right: our team finds a way to lose the big games. For all of you Richt supporters, you do realize that the win total from last year means that he was paid $500,000 per win.
I agree that the team looked better prepared for today’s game than they did last week, but our vaunted special teams (”best in the country” is what I have seen here for weeks now) cost us dearly with the missed FG and the failure to stop SC’s fake punt.
If you really believe that this team will win nine games this year, I am impressed with your optimism.

Then I stuck with them through last year…as uncomfortable as it was…thought major changes would be in store. I bought into all the reports…faster, stronger, smarter program. I got sold a bill of goods and I want us to cut our losses before it is too late. This program has forgotten how to win. After 10 years, no coach, at an established “big time” program should be producing these results. Sadly, ugaly fans are faced with the fact that this is a bottom tiered SEC program & a lower half NCAA program. Richt has not produced a big win since 2005 SEC Championship game … that’s 5+ years!!! There is alot of money being paid to those that don’t deserve it in athens. What a joke!

Anybody blaming this on turnovers need look no further than the offensive line. Crowell botching the handoff, Murray’s INT and fumble, etc… There was no pass protection. USC has an AMAZING defensive line, so I can understand them getting pressure. So who to blame? Well, if you know they’re going to beat your offensive line and you wait until the second half to start calling screens and slants to get behind their linebackers, you have only the playcaller to blame. Bobo didn’t account for the blitz. There’s 3 ways to beat a blitz: 1) throw away from it, 2) throw behind it, 3) run away from it. Somehow we just sat in the pocket and watched it come (INT and fumble), or ran right at it (Crowell’s handoff that was botched due to the pressure coming his way). I love Richt, but he’s too nice to fire Bobo, and so he’ll have to face the music at season’s end.

[...] A compilation of post-game reaction, including this from South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier: “I’ve never won a game like this that I can remember. Georgia outplayed us. Give them credit, they outplayed us, but somehow or another we won the game. Sometimes it happens like that. Somebody was looking out for us tonight.” [...]

It seems like we’ve been hearing the same thing at these post game press affairs for years. Wait. It has been years! With CMR “we’re always close.” Good teams don’t gift wrap wins for their opponents time after time. UGA almost always has the better players, yet, “we just let this one slip away.” Great coaches teach their teams to minimize errors. With Richt, it’s always the excuse. “We’ll get to work and overcome it,” Richt says. WHEN? I feel bad for the players because they did leave it all out there. But Murray sounds just like Richt. He has not beaten one decent team. Richt still makes mistakes a guy coaching in the SEC should never make. And there’s your difference. We have some really exciting players who deserve much better.

everyone keep drinking the kool-aid, dont mind the fact that we cant beat a top 20 team, that we now lost 3 straight (includes ucf last dec), we are on our way to second straight losing season, that we continue our downward sprial to the bottom of the SEC east…… why not continue to put up with this for a few more years?

its a shame where this football program sits today….. we now accept good efforts even if we lose…. please ……. what a bunch of crap….. Richt is paid to bring championships to Georgia…. to be in contention year in and year out…. not every 6 or 7 years…. my goodness dawg nation…. WAKE UP….. GET RID OF THESE CLOWNS NOW….. THE ONLY THING THAT IS IMPORTANT IS WINS…. NOT EFFORT…. NOT THAT THEY ARE YOUNG…. ITS ALL ABOUT WINNING…… WAKE UP

Crowell is a baller for taking credit for the fumble, but it’s not all on him. Murray was limping badly after the play before and refused to come out. Timing on hand-offs between a RB and his QB is crucial. I knew before it happened that Murray wasn’t 100% and that something was going to happen. Sure enough… The ball wasn’t where Crowell would normally get it. Murray screwed his team into the ground. Gritty? Yes and I respect him for that. But he pretty much lost the game for his team mates. An INT happens. But learn how to take a sack. And if you’re hurt, don’t be a martyr.
And CMR stood by and let it happen.

Aaron Murray, right after he threw the interception, came back to the field with an obvious look of determination – a look he had not shown in his sleepwalk through the entire game up until then. South Carolina, you recall punched it in again on his interception to forge the lead. Then, we scored. When he came back out the next series, you could sense looking at him, that he had lost that determination. Relaxed. Unattached. Like he didn’t give a damn. We could win the game. And, he showed as much emotion and determination as our church guy, other than defending his praying buddy offensive coach. Then, he was thrown down like a rag doll. And, South Carolina scored again to go up by 2 scores, on the fumble itself. And, the game was over. The fans left. I stayed. I wanted to watch the 2 coaches mid-field after the game. I came; I saw; Mark Richt hugged Steve Spurrier. That’s it for me. I have grown weary of telling the RICHT-0-FILES for 6 solid seasons now. These 6 consecutive 6 solid seasons now, in which this church guy does not even have a winning record vs The SEC East, DOWN as it is. There ever was only just 1 SEC East team, and now they are DOWN too. This 5-Loss South Carolina team with their “worse quarterback” than Aaron Murray had once again beat Aaron Murray, and once again, Aaron Murray was not the better quarterback, head-to-head on the field yet again tonight. That is now 9 times the opposing quarterback has out-performed our QB on the field, head-to-head. 7 of the 9 times, the other team ended the season in the Top 25; and, the other 2 times the other team – even with their win over Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” did not even finish in the AP Poll Top 25. All 9 games, Aaron Murray lost. On this night, he threw the interception to give South Carolina the lead, threw away the hand-off to Isaiah Crowell, and then was thrown down like a Rag Doll by South Carolina’s much bigger much faster brute, coughing it up yet again – on yet again another sack. Did he tweet today how he was going to go get his a** whooped – er, uh, I mean whoop him some a** ? I couldn’t care less to read his Tweets any longer, you know ?

The BEST Quarterback in the entire SEC.

So, where are you twits who told me this repeatedly ? Where, oh Lord, are you now ?

14 losses the last 28 games.

Not even a winning record vs SEC East over 6 consecutive seasons now.

Blogs, oh blogs that only allow those who say POSITIVE lies.

Poster after poster who say they have the ‘Dawgs’ backs. Do they ? That right ? They have them by trying to float by us all that Mark Richt is the # 4 best college football coach in all of America by adding up wins and not discussing ANY losses, like his 3 wins 10 losses vs teams ending up in the AP Poll Top 10 and like his 16 losses to teams who did not or would not have finished in the Top 25 without having beat Mark Richt. Mark Richt, whose 1 win in the last 10 games vs ranked teams at game time, is over a Georgia tek team who played only 4 games that season and lost 3. Cheated to do that. NCAA PROBATION back-to-back in FOOTBALL – Mark Richt could have lost that game, and Georgia tek would have forfeited to him anyway. 2006 Auburn ended # 9 and that is the last win six (6) seasons ago over any team who finished in the AP Poll Top 10 and we lost to 4-win Vandie 2006 too along with 4 losses 2006.

We are an afterthought on the national stage. We have no discipline on or off the field. Allowing Aaron Murray to still have up on his Twitter Home Page that he was leaving this time last week to the Georgia Dome where we were already there, to go whoop him some a**.

Just go Mark Richt. Please do not try to lie to me, or send your Bible-Thumping Minions to try to take me on on the Internet. Not me, sir. Anyone but me. I have looked up their every lie. I have exposed their every twisted attempt to prove to me that they are a better Mark Richt fan than I a Bulldog fan, and not in the least a Mark Richt fan – him playing and paying and praying his Favorites.

There is a load of talent on this team. Way loaded. We need to get a guy back in the secondary who is our best football player on the entire team. We need to ask ourselves what we are saving Malcolm Mitchell for to bring him in the 2nd half of every game, to prove to me that this man is very special. Why the 2nd half, while we languish on every 3rd and long calling our preposterous draw play lucky to come up short by just a few.

Mark Richt – what are you saving Christian LeMay for ? You won’t be here.

Georgia has not had a signature SEC win since 2007. If Greg McGarity continues to ignore this fact… NOTHING will happen! UGA fans will still show up — not because they dislike their team’s underachievement and their inept coaches — but because the tailgating is BETTER than the game. THAT”S WHY, the fans show up week after week. The game is anti-climactic. The UGA Bulldogs are on par with the CHICAGO CUBS! Until the fans wise-up and just stop showing up for the mess that is a CMR coached team, the coffers will be full and the PARTY ROLLs ON!!! Sad but 100% accurate. “USC would have to lose two SEC games for UGA to be able to win the east…not gonna happen.”

Yes, Arkansas is a far better team than anyone Mark Richt and Greg McGarity face the rest of our season. There is the clear loss that UGA always under Mark Richt has to some lousy sorry powder-puff cream-filled cupcake. Alabama and LSU have won some great wins this season already over very good football teams – and, neither South Carolina nor Georgia faces either Alabama or LSU.

When an SEC East team, DOWN as the SEC East is – quite obviously, faces either Alabama or LSU, or maybe even Arkansas even without their running back, The SEC East team will lose, and it will be a blow-out of Biblical Proportions.

Look, we play an incredibly easy schedule the rest of the entire regular season. Our schedules are so soft nowadays. We can all sit back now, the season over, and watch little Aaron Murray run up his stats against these up-coming 10 cupcakes – including our meaningless bowl game against some nobody football team – as we have done ALL 11 years now.

South Carolina will lose plenty of football games this season. They always do. They should have tonight; but, little Aaron Murray handed Steve Spurrier the game for the 2nd consecutive season. He did so by starting out slowly again, as he did last week. And, then he flung the ball at Isaiah Crowell – not put it in there; and then he threw the interception to South Carolina to put them ahead; and then he also at the end LOST THE GAME when he was FLUNG DOWN LIKE A RAG DOLL by the much bigger much faster USC DL, coughing it up. Quit with the excuses for the guy. He is a LOSER. He has no opportunity to beat any ranked team, again this season. And, don’t forget he will ALSO lose to some cupcake not in the Top 25, too. USC will lose games the rest of the way, unfortunately, so will we – and it will be against a team we should have beat. Anyone notice us put pressure on Garcia tonight ? Where was that all last week ?

Thanks a lot Aaron Murray – you LOST this game for us by yourself, son.

“Georgia has not had a signature SEC win since 2007.”

_

2007 LOST to 6-Loss South Carolina 2007 not even in a bowl game South Carolina
The entire season was OVER after losing early to So Car & vols, out of SEC Champ, over

2007 LOST to 4-Loss vols # 12 who lost to 7-6 Alabama in blow-out & to 7-6 California

2007 Florida ended up # 13, a 4-Loss team beat by lowly Michigan, great team ?
2007 Auburn ended up # 15, a 4-Loss team beat by S FL & Missy State, great team ?
2007 Hawai’i ended up ranked # 19, is this a great team we beat ?

These are our only wins 2007, and notice if you will that what they try to float past you is that they say that Mark Richt was hosed in 2007 by the BCS, that he should have played in the NC game and that he would have won, they say. Yet, again, what they will not discuss with you, is that LSU had wins just like these 3 wins over not so great teams, but LSU also had two (2) wins over teams who finished in the AP Poll Top 10, while please note that Mark Richt (as he has ALWAYS done in the years he was supposed to be so great) has ZERO -0- wins over any team who finished in the AP Poll Top 10. How was Mark Richt cheated out of the National Championship in 2007 when he lost to hapless vols in a blow-out and lost to a team who ended the season 6-6 and did not even play in a bowl game. This entire 2007 season was OVER early for Mark Richt with these HORRID LOSSES 2007, and no team on the schedule who finished in the AP Poll Top 10. As this season, 2011, we don’t face the 3 top SEC West teams, we did not face LSU in 2007, and BLEW OUR CHANCES at getting to play them with these head scratching losses. The facts are we had an easy schedule 2007, and FAILED to take advantage of it, as we are doing already for 2011.

Yes, great job you players and coaches 13-13 vs SEC East teams these last 6 seasons, 14-14 these last 28 games overall, 0-2 including tonight handing the game to Steve Spurrier when we had them beat, a come-from behind improbable win for South Carolina ONLY because Aaron Murray (1) flung the football at Isaiah Crowell not putting the ball in there properly at all (2) throwing the interception to put South Carolina in the lead as he did last week to Boise State too (3) being flung around like a RAG DOLL coughing up the fumble quick 6 at our goal line and (4) wasting the first 3 trips to their end zone himself by all 3 times making horrid throws and SETTLING for field goal attempts, any 1 of which would have actually won the game even with HIS turnovers (1) (2) and (3.)

You are the problem around here SETTLING for this crudola as a well-coached football team. And, we have so much obvious talent out there : MISMANAGEMENT of the talent is so much fun to cheer on. I love it so much, you know.

Great job team. You are really doing well. We just love spending our $10,000 a year supporting this LOSING FOOTBALL PROGRAM. That is my dream in life you know ? I so enjoy LOSING. Mark Richt does not have a Calling to be on TV analyzing football, a game he said he could now spend his free time studying – you reCall ? To become an expert on the game of football. The question is, if Greg McGarity freed him up from so much of the mundane remedial clerical tasks of being head coach of a football program once # 11 in All-Time 1-A wins before he got here and began mismanaging the wealth of talent left here for him and since duplicated – although without a single great player in the secondary – if Greg McGarity freed him up so much to finally study the game he is handed $ 3,500,000 annual total compensation for, how could he then analyze the game on TV ? He doesn’t know it, does he ? Well, he told us he “knew what the hell he was doing.”

But if that were true and not another in a litany of lies from his mouth, why then would he need to be freed up by Greg McGarity to be able to study the game of football, to BECOME an expert at this game ?

We waste and mismanage Malcolm Mitchell, too. We have brought him in only late in the game in the 2nd half to play football, when that man is explosive. It is so easy to watch a man such as Malcolm Mitchell play the game of Football and to Know that he is destined to greatness.

So, why do we not play him, either – while we watch us fall behind at the beginning of every game nowadays and then lose as a direct result thereof ?

The list is endless, and has been from 2001.

We play FAVORITES.

Are we afraid that it would be too obvious how much better it would be to put these guys in more, say to begin the game ?

Richt easily loses every single game to any coach that’s good. After seeing a good bit of Auburn-Mississippi State, Richt will lose again this year to both of those teams Tenessee in Knoxville has “a Mark Richt lose’ written all over it. Doesn’t matter how good or bad Will Muschamp is, Richt is a chronic loser each time against Florida.

Same comments just a different week, different year. Does anyone actually believe that any running back would run wild and break so many tackles against a defense like Alabama? It is always wait until next week and we’ll show you and next week never comes until they find some scrub on the schedule that they can get well against. Teams that have talent and that are well coached don’t make the mistakes that UGA make week in and week out. The long wait for this season to begin is now lost because of the coaching CMR is at a loss. He has no clue how to turn things around or he would’ve done it years ago. He is living off his record for his first six or seven years and acting as though the last several years are some type of aberation instead of a trend. Why is UGA paying this man seven figures? It is baffling to think you could me this bad and make so much money at being bad. Regardless of what UGA does for the rest of the season and that is even if they win every remaining game which they won’t, CMR and that entire staff needs to be fired.

Paul Johnson said today that he finds it hard enough playing against the ACC as it is. He stated today too that he would prefer to play 4 division II teams or 1-AA FCS teams.

Of course, Mark Richt loses to more than 1 team every season who is not ranked in the final AP Poll, even after they beat him.

So, too, does Paul Johnson.

The difference is Mark Richt is the head coach of the # 11 all-time win program, the flagship school in the state which therefore hands Mark Richt the players that would not even consider going to Georgia tek, to not even be on TV, to be on back-to-back NCAA PROBATION in football, to have 92,746 fans – not half that number after Georgia tek blew-up half their stadium so tired they were of their half-empty stadium – only to see their engineer unable to count the remaining number of seats correctly, to not have the 2nd most money of any football program in America to only Texas, to have 45 in the NFL from the benefit of all this; and, to have fans actually able to determine that 2002 there only was 1 other SEC team ranked at all in the final Coaches’ Poll Top 25 in 2002 and they only Auburn a 4-loss team who beat Alabama too but still a 4-Loss team ending up ranked therefore # 14 in the Coaches’ Poll 2002; fans actually able to determine that Mark Richt ended the season # 3 in The SEC in the AP Poll 2005 with losses to Auburn # 14 and to Florida # 12; and that in 2007 Mark Richt lost to 6-6 South Carolina not even in a bowl game and to the hapless vols 2007 too when the vols lost to such wondrous teams 2007 as California a 7-6 team and the vols 2007 lost to Alabama in a blow-out of the vols another 7-6 team 2007 this vols team a 4-loss team 2007.

I submit that this is more of a tragedy to UGA than the # 49 football team Georgia tek is under Paul Johnson.

“Its a tossup who’s worse, Richt or Paul Johnson.”

No, Mark Richt is the one who has done a worse job because to he whom much is given, much is expected.

No one expects Paul Johnson to do squat. So, they get what they expected.

Here

Here we fall short of expectations.

Mark Richt is worse than Paul Johnson, therefore – even though Mark Richt beats Paul Johnson because at UGA, we are NOT measured by the # 49 football program, Georgia tek.

We are measured by :

(1) beating teams who end the season in the AP Poll Top 10
(2) not getting beat by teams who do not even finish the season in the Top 25

Of course, the DISNEYdawgs.com will soon get up from their drunken stupor, and begin anew their campaign for Mark Richt bragging how they better Mark Richt fans that I – indeed we – are true devoted longtime loving giving Bulldog football fans many of whom of us graduated from UGA and recall (the older ones of us, not Ray Goff years) that there have been UGA football teams with our best player deep in the secondary and offensive lines who could block for The University of Ground Attack now some pass-happy program and we also recall being a Top 10 team ourselves and earned that by BEATING teams who finished that season in the AP Poll Top 10 when we were Top 10 ourselves too.

Nowadays, all that matters in this state which has Separation of Church and State, is that they have fun watching the games LOSING because our coach is better than their coach because he is a Christian.

Wonder what his preacher will say in Church 5 hours from now ? I am sure he is sitting there wondering himself, $350,000 to $700,000 on the line and obviously – he – to minister to above all others at 11

Everytime we had a chance to go up by more than 1 score we blew it, missed field goal, fumble, fake punt. Somebody got to step up and make the tough play. Need more speed on defensive line.

Tough loss in a hard fought game. Too many mistakes but the biggest one was the Deon Sanders imitation by Boykin on the fake punt. I’d bench his butt for the rest of the season. You can’t allow that type of wimpy play from anyone, much less a starter. What a wuss!!!

“Didn’t all the excuse makers say “Well, UGA is a young team” last year?”

No, sir, that was 2009. Remember now ?

2008 we were ranked # 1 every poll, lost all 3 games against any good team, giving up 29, 31 and 42 consecutive points and ended up # 13 AP Poll; had we started out # 13, we finish not in the Top 25, which is where we should have finished anyway, 22 of them out partying the night every poll made them # 1.

2009, then we went 8-5 and ALL THE EXCUSE MAKERS said we were rebuilding 2009, that we were young. Coming back to you now ?

2010, then, last year, they could not say that again – so they said that was just 1 bad year. Anyway, I had drilled it into them that we had 18 seniors on the Depth Chart Media Guide 2010 page 10.

2011 Depth Chart Media Guide page 10 again shows 22 seniors.

I’d be willing to give Richt another year to bring this “young” team together if he would do two things.
1. Fire Bobo and open the Check book and bring in a real proven OC with New ideas and the ability to call a game as to what the D is giving you.
2. Open up the QB position. The ole line of ” playing the guy that gives us the best chance to win” needs to go out the window. His record speaks, although not all his fault, and looks good at times.

“Elliis Johnson dialed up a perfectly timed blitz which sealed our fate.”

Jadeveon Clowney lined up on the right side, split the 2 OL, and threw Aaron Murray to the ground like a rag doll, whereupon South Carolina scooped it up, waltzed into the end zone 3 of them and none of us in sight to put the game away by 2 scores. Whereupon the fans left. They were not supposed to do that. They were supposed to sit there and have so much fun, per AltamahawDawg, losing for the 13th time in 26 SEC East games over these last 6 seasons and 14th time in the last 28 games overall. I waited. I wanted to see Mark Richt and Steve Spurrier at mid-field after the game. He hugged Steve Spurrier, who found it uneasy, and tried to quickly get away. That’s what I saw.

If we had a OL like Bama’a, we could of run right at them all night and they could not of stopped it. They almost couldn’t stop us last night. We would of eaten clock and won the game. That is SEC football.Richt needs, if he last, build a deep talented line. Crowell and Samuels would of pounded the ball all night mixed in with a little play action passing.

I’m proud of the team based on how much it improved from game 1. I’m ashamed of some of the fans – the ones that started filing out of the game with a few minutes left. I can’t imagine why people like that go to games – it was exciting and the outcome was still in doubt when those folks left. The sad part is that I would be willing to bet that many of those same people are creating posts talking about a team that gave up. It didn’t. Those fans did.

IN Richt’s mind the morning, the pressure is off some. He feels he went 15 rounds with a good physical team and could of /should of won. Now, that thinking comes from where this team has been the last 3 years. losing a hard fought game with Carolina should not make anyone feel better. Carolina is not that good and I think they lose 2-3 games this year. Now, I did see some things that made me feel better, but i also say a lot that disturbs me.

The outcome was not surprise, but Bobo should not receive any criticism for his offensive scheme. UGA hung 42 on the Ole Ball Coach, and that means there is nothing wrong with the offense. Even against Boise, UGA hung 21 on the Broncos.

Therefore, the problem is not CMR or Bobo, your problem is Defense….more importantly Grantham. CMR made a desperate move in replacing Martinez, whom should have been replaced years ago, but once the booster pressure became unbearble, he swung for the fences and struck out with Grantham.

There is just not enough emphasis on defense, but there shold be. Dooley is not really that good, Erk Russell was. CMR is an offensive genius, he just needs someone who can run a proper defense, like Brian Van Gorder.

The troubles with this problem are deeper than CMR, or Bobo. The problem with this program is Dooley and a team that has not learned how to respect their opponents. The taunting and all the pre-game energy is spent, thus this team is gassed by half-time. Opponents come in and quietly get the job done and leave….such as yesterday.

Some observations, Samuel needs to be moved back to LB, he is not an SEC caliber RB, he stumbles every time his number is called. Samuel cannot run outside whatsoever, runs upright with no cutback ability.
C. Washington gets absolutely no pressure nor can he disengage from his blocker. Most of Lattimore’s cutbacks were to 83’s side. Where is Ray Drew?
We must put our athletes on our special teams unit, we have too many walk-on’s on the field.

Unfortunately the only way Kirby Smart or any other top-talented DC comng to Athens is in the form of a head coach. UGA should have upped the anty when Van Gorder left for Jax, but apparently no one in Athens understood the critical component of a defensive coordinator.

I like CMR, and if you fire him, he is going to be successful somewhere, which will only prove that the UGA is broken, and has deeper issues other than coaching. CMR could leave this program in a heartbeat, and be back in the Garnet and Gold in 2 seconds. He could also be back in Miami running that offense also……so you might want to think long and hard before pulling the trigger. What CMR needs is a better mentor than Dooley, because no one would have ever heard of Dooley if not for his recruiters and Herschel Walker.

JB

I really don’t know where to start with that, sir. I think, maybe the start of it has to be that Mike Bobo is not the panacea to our issues. We have given an entire recruiting class full of scholarships to guys who none of them have ever seen the field on offense or on defense; and continue to play Favorites, such as your next point about I guess Christian LeMay – why save him ? Mark Richt will not be here for him, if he does because, as you say, this is the game number 9 now that Aaron Murray has been beat out at his position head-to-head on the field by the opposing QB. 7 of them end the season ranked and 2 did not, but all 9 were better than he head-to-head for all to see and he lost all 9 as a direct result thereof. We have nobody on punt returns, for example, playing in the game. Zombie team, one guy just called them aptly, for example. Boykin now is the answer at RB, when I said that four (4) years ago. Didn’t I repeatedly, and every day since to say I told you so about last week. He whiffed like Garo Yepremian on his pass in Super Bowl VII after being sent back there to return the punt and whiffing on the tackle. Aaron Murray tweeted just prior to kick-off last week that he was “leaving to go whoop some a**” on his international Twitter WebPages. It sits there still this morning, if you don’t know how to use that technology, I can provide it. Of course, Brandon Boykin missed the interception this week, and got most of the press last week for his tweet to the Bear Bryant top college coach award winner, twice. 26 players have been removed from our roster in the last year, hailed around here as “addition by subtraction.” We tried to hide 2 suspensions to last week’s game. Who knows who was suspended for this game ? We wait to put Malcolm Mitchell in until the 2nd half and start out like molasses every game. Our players call their own number so many times in a game, they can’t even figure out that they need to go to the sideline and get a back-up QB ready to play, so they get the # 1 RB in the nation nearly injured himself on a botched hand-off of his, one of his 3 fumbles in the game, and someone tried to blame that on Isaiah Crowell. No, that’s on the QB, like the one at his feet he did fall on and like the 1 that cost him the game on what will always be known as the rag doll play. We have no completion to any TE last night; I presume that was some wrinkle of a game plan strategy to fool them. The only position on the team we have so many at that all might make it in the NFL; and we complete not 1 pass to them all night in a game featuring 87 points. We recruit for 6 consecutive recruiting classes 0 fullbacks, yet there are 200 every year, including great ones in the state of Georgia; now, next season we have a FB commitment. Our problems are so pervasive that all of us to an injustice to just how badly organized we are as a football program anymore. I feel that we can rattle off 10 more wins including another nobody bowl opponent as per always with the lone loss to Alabama or LSU in The SEC Championship; and that is not based upon fantasy in my mind, but on the fact that 11-3 means we beat no one this season.

Firing Bobo and opening up QB isn’t going to fix much

No one likes to lose. This includes the players, coaches, and fans. I am disappointed in this lost as well. A lot of improvement was shown between the 1st game and 2nd game. However, the most disturbing part of this is the behavior of the fans. The booing, name calling, and overall constant bickering is at a level that I have never thought the Ga. faithful would stoop to. It’s one thing to expect to win an express your disappointement. However, it crosses the lines with the personal insults are hurled at the team. I think there are some that are hoping that the season turns out bad so that Richt can be fired. Will the same behavior be displayed if they don’t win a NC within the first few years? Yes, I am embarrased of our record against winning teams over the last few years. There are many converts.

Once we zero in on this 3 wins 10 losses to teams who finished in the AP Poll Top 10 all 11 years, we can just summarize we don’t beat the top teams in our best seasons (2001 # 4 vols-ended the season # 5 team in SEC in AP Poll & lost 4 games) (2005 # 6 LSU-ended the season the # 3 team in SEC in AP Poll & lost 3 games) (2006 # 9 Auburn-ended the season the # 5 team in SEC in AP Poll & lost 4 games.)

Our best seasons were 2002 and 2007, where we beat no one that entire season, either one, who ended the season in the AP Poll Top 10.

Taken into consideration that we have LOST 16 games to teams who would not have finished in the AP Poll Top 25 even, 10 of whom did not even with their win over Mark Richt, what we have is that :

-we don’t beat the top teams
-we lose to cruddy teams, too

If and when a new head coach is hired, what will you say when we don’t win it all within the first few years? Your reasoning right now at this point is that we have the talent to win but our coachoing staff is the problem. So a new coaching staff should be able to win with all this talent.

You guys must not realize that it would be better for the team if we kept Richt and were able to improve and get better. We lose Richt and crew, we lose recruiting connections, trust amongst players and much more. Mark Richt has done and is doing the right things to make this team the best it can be this year. We will win the rest of our games, and if we make the SEC Champ, we could win that too. If you aren’t for the GEORGIA BULLDOGS and Mark Richt, you are against them. And no, you can’t be a Dawg fan and not support Mark Richt because otherwise you are railing against the players that love and support their coach and make this great Georgia Tradition possible. JB,
Rainey and Demps are the same player for the most part. Undersized, shifty and fast as greased ligtning. So if one goes down, we’ll have the other to plug in, like last night when Demps got dinged up. Gillislee really stepped up last night when he was given time in the 3rd and 4th quarters. Still concerned about our lack of playmaking at the WR spots. We did run the ball really well between the tackles last night with Burton and Gillislee, so that looked promising. Defense has looked great, but against inferior competiton. We’ll get a much better gauge on where we are next Saturday against a pretty stout offense from UT. Our season starts then.

@ UCF Dawg: There is a little issue with you comparing past coaches to Mark Richt. Neither of those coaches led the football program during a period of such prosperity for the UGA Athletic Association. Furthermore, the crop of players in this state is so deep that multiple regional programs can make National Championship runs.

I am certainly for our Dawgs. I am lost as to how supporting the pathetic game preparation and leadership of Mark Richt translates into supporting the program. Richt has not improved. He along with his apologists simply pass the responsibilty of leadership to assistants. Mark Richt does not commit to establishing the run. Watching the Georgia team is like watching Ray Goff pass with Eric Zeier every play when we have Terrell Davis (a future NFL Hall of Famer). Richt’s leadership is UNACCEPTABLE.

It appears the way to beat SC is to run it right at them. Their DE’s are athletic as heck, but UGA negated that speed by running between the tackles. I was really surprised that Spurrier was so conservative on offense. They didn’t ty to stretch the field too often. I guess when you have a back like Lattimore, you ride that horse until in goes down. He’s a beast!

@ UCF Dawg: What difference does it make, who the better team is? If Georgia, is in fact the better team, it highlights why Mark Richt needs to go. It is not just one game. It is a culmination of game philosophy. It is a culmination of failures in recruiting. We can point to practically every skill position and show that Mark Richt does not have the pulse of the state’s top players. The top players in Georgia are now going elsewhere. There is an exodus of talent from this state which highlight Mark Richt’s incompotence.

“Haters?” What I hate is bad coaching and a head football coach who will not run the football. What I hate even more is the fact that Mark Richt continues to lose practically every top skill player in the state to bottom-feeding programs. Richt recruits marginal out-of-state players and does not get it done with Georgia kids. Aaron Murray should have been holding a clip board for Cam Newton. He is a self-admitted Dawg fan from Atlanta. Orson Charles should be somewhere in Florida running bad routes while Lutzenkirchen (Marietta’s Lassiter HS) is pulling in his NCAA leading TDs among TEs. I have no idea why Wooten is the #2 WR with all of the talent in this state. Look at the top players in Georgia. There is an exodus of top players from the Peach State. Do not even get me started with Richt losing goes like Greg Reid (Valdosta’s Lowndes HS).

UGA has a very good team, and they did outplay us in many aspects of the game. East Carolina is good too. Check out how close they played Va.Tech. Carolina beat both of them.

Let’s stop all of this Fantasy Talk. The Georgia-Florida game is a long way away. Let’s talk about Mark Richt’s inability to recruit the top players in the state. Let’s talk about Mark Richt’s inability to feed a RB the football after he averages 8.7 yards/per carry in the 1st half. Steve Spurrier lives for the pass. He is smart enough to feed Marcus Lattimore. Not Mark Richt. This guy, instead, puts our program in the hands of a 6′0″ quarterback who has no ability to make check downs. Murray sees a blitz and then runs play actions fakes. It is sickening, if you have ever played real football.

As far as moral victories ask us if we felt good about dominating Auburn and LSU and losing. Heck no. True Georgia looked improved and dominated. Still looked gassed at the end and defense could not come up with key stops. I am still scratching my head over the on side kick with over two minutes to go. Once you look for moral wins that is all you get. Ask us ie., see the Shula years.

Bizarre game. Carolina got 28 cheap points. You can’t give any team four huge gifts and win. Unfortunately football games are decided by the score at the end. Liked what I saw though. Georgia looked better in every phase of the game except rushing the QB. They need to get a pass rusher. If the team that showed up yesterday shows up the rest of the year the Dawgs can run the table if they they don’t give the other team cheap points. I was also pleased with the way they fought back every time they had something bad happen. Go Dawgs!

I saw a team last night could have won the game if this same team hadn’t gotten in its own way! Way too many mistakes to win a close football game like this. The fake punt for a touchdown was the turning point in my opinion. We were poised to stab the dagger in their hearts until then. The Dawgs actually played like they wanted to win; which was totally different from what I saw last week.

It’s obvious by reading most of the comments that most of you couch-potato, soggy-middle, whiners, have never played competitive sports. You have no idea how much time and effort goes into preparation or how much blood, sweat, and tears goes into playing the game.

Georgia’s game plan was good. The OL played well against a stout defense. Our defense made plays. Our special teams were pretty good too.

A fumble for a TD, a fumble that bounces right to the defender and is almost a TD, an interception for a TD, a fake punt for a TD (and no one saw that coming), a great on-side kick reversed because we were off sides by an inch…and we lost the game by 5!

The Boise game was one thing…a team that looked ill-prepared and confused. This game turned on a couple of correctable mistakes. Georgia gave away 24 pts and lost by 5. If you don’t see the development in this team, then you are obviously and imbecile.

Every team has cupcakes on their schedule…every team, every year. Georgia started out playing number 5 and number 12, when they started with a ranking of 19. Every game remaining on our schedule is winnable.

You can be critical and still be supportive of this team. If that’s too difficult for you, go cheer for Tech you losers.

Some thoughts. I’m interested if others agree or disagree:

1. Great, even Spurrier admitted we outplayed him Moral victories don’t count when you are an established program. Let UT who is rebuilding have moral victories.

2. These turnovers remind me of the 2009 team.

3. I like the poise, maturity and toughness of Crowell. He played hurt (ribs) and admitted the fumble which set up a TD was his fault, then came out with confidence and played his tail off. This kid was worth the hype and worth teliing those morons Ealey and King to go find a real job.

4. Now Christian Robinson is hurt. Grantham, you much adjust your scheme to fit your talent. Run a modified version of your base defense with Jarvis Jones up on the line in a 3 point stance outside the weak side OT with his ears pinned back a la Marcus Howard a few years back so we get SOME pressure on the QB on a consistent basis. In other words, turn him from a LB to rush end. If you want to run a zone blitz (do we do that?) he is athletic enough to change up and cover a back coming out in the flat. Use both Geathers and Jenkins at DT on 1st and 2nd down. Tyson plays a traditional DE on strong side. That will free up your thin LB core. If Robinson is out, you have no experienced inside LB’s right now. Use your best three athletes at the position, period.

5. Murray and Crowell were “beat up.” Once upon a time teams did want to face us because they felt beat up for an entire week. How things have changed.

6. I’m sorry but you always have to be on lookout for the fake kick or punt when a team is near midfield. Football 101. Only time you can let your guard down is when they are deep in their own territory. That one is on the special teams coach.

7. Our OL played better this week but we still need better pass protection. Until we get that, BOBO, stop calling plays that take time to develop. Quick passes. How many times was Orson Charles targeted. Twice? Were they covering him up in their man coverage that bad? That said, good use of Crowell coming out of the backfield. Kid ain’t Moreno but he is good in the open field.

8. CMR waited too long to call that time out after they got the ball on the onside kick. As soon as they ran that first play he should have called TO. Bad clock management. Again. Probably all moot since Lattimore got the 1st down anyway, but we do not use timeouts well.

9. We are so thin at OL and LB I hope we are not red-shirting anyone. All hands on deck.

10. Silver lining: the kids played with great intensity. CMR had them mentally prepared this week.
And South Carolina will not run the table. We are still in this thing. However…

11. Reality: We should have won 42 – 17. OL still needs improvement. I didn’t hear a single LB’s number get called on a play except Robinson and Jones. We are getting blocked too easily. Grantham, see # 4 above.

Thank you all for your time. Go Dawgs.

And DMR I agree with you completely. My middle is soft because I’m middle aged and do not workout the way I used 30 yrs ago when I played ball. Of course my comments are hindsight, and these kids did work their tails off. The assistant coaches on the other hand….well, see my note about moral victories.

Oh, forgot, that was a BS call on Rambo, he was not offsides and we should have gotten the ball. That was an “inconclusive evidence to overturn the call on the field” review. Side judge blew that call. Oh, well.

Lattimore just chewed our defense up with that zone read run and with the quick pitch. I would have had 9 in the box everytime and would have blitzed to their strong side on the quick pitch formations. They had to know Lattimore was going to get the ball. We allowed him 180 yards. Our defense sucks. USC’s offense could not sustain anything in the 1st – 3rd quarters because we kept allowing them big plays, thus their offense did not have much time on the field. I have always supported CMR, but I am done with him and his regime. I would love to get a Peterson in here or a Derrick Dooley. You watch what I tell you. First of all I do not think Georgia will go undefeated the rest of the way, but if for some reason we can pull that off, then no South Carolina does not have to lose more than one game. It would be possible for South Carolina to lose to Florida and for Georgia to beat Florida. Which would mean they could possibly end up in a three way tie, but either Florida or South Carolina would probably end up ranked higher and still go to the SECCG, unless both teams really struggled and Georgia comes on like gang busters and blows out several teams. Don’t see any of this happening but not outside the realm of possibility. As for the Coaching situation this seasons schedule will handle that one way or another. And we might as well support the team and let McGarity handle that situation. I will assure at the end of the season the AD will make the decision he alone is getting paid to make. No sense in obsessing over it.

Best post here so far. Nailed it.

Everyone keeps saying “if we didn’t make mistakes” we would have won…well ladies and gents…good coaching can help that problem. Coaching if done correctly can correct Crowell’s fumble, Murray’s INT (into double coverage), or his fumble (someone teach MURRAY To get the FRAK down and take a SACK instead) or to watch out for the FAKE PUNT near midfield (more COACHING).

There I said it…people say the Players lost the game…but those mistakes can be overcome via COACHING (and discipline in practices, proper fundamental discipline).

It’s beyond frustrating being a UGA fan right now. New leadership is needed in Athens…how much longer is this mess going to continue???

The UGA team I saw yesterday didn’t give up, they continued to fight back. Yes they made mistakes, it happens, get over it. If this team continues to plays as hard as it did against Carolina, Coach Richt deserves to continue as Head Coach.
As for calling pass plays predominately, that’s been the case since Coach Richt arrived, didn’t hear a lot of complaining when UGA was winning, in fact I remember a lot of negative attitudes when Vince Dooley was coach about his 3 yds and a cloud of dust offense.
As for not getting the right players, I don’t understand why any good player would want to commit to UGA with all the negative BS that is put out by morons who have coached or led anyone in their pathetic lives.
All you morons who think its easy to get instant gratification and 12 win seasons every year, go back to your X-box 360, put in your favorite football game, set the level to easy and go to it. UGA plays in the SEC, and the SEC, like life is hard.

Hey dawg fans I’m a Tech fan but let me give you a little hope and a little advice. 1st Don’t get rid of coach Mark Richt. Hes a great man, good coach, and a fantastic recruiter. 2nd I made a prediction last fall concerning UGA and it’s that you will win the SEC and play for the National Championship in 2012. You are a young team that will be tremendously better next year. Murray will be a Jr. and the dream team will be more mature and experienced. I’m a Tech fan that follows UGA recruiting and watch you guys on TV. You have the makings of a great team. Give coach Richt the chance to lead you to glory. I follow alot of football both college and pro and your team has young but great talent. The next 2 yrs. UGA will be back at the top in the SEC. One last thing is that your AD did the Dawg’s an injustice having you play a tough Boise State team before the S. Carolina game. He should have scheduled a warmup game so that the kinks could be worked out. Her’s hopeing the rest of the season goes well for you guys with one exception. GOOOOOOOOOO TECH.

my conspiracy theory is that McGarrity purposely placed Boise St to start off the season to put the heat on Richt…..if he were to have won both games, he and Richt would be the heroes. This looks like a great team in the making. If not for the mistakes they could have easily put 50 points on South Carolina and limited them to 17. I was not impressed at all with South Carolina and think they could easily lose 2 games in the SEC this year so it is not over.

Simple reality……

Georgia is currently not better than Boise State (4th ranked) and South Carolina (12 ranked). I did not see the game, but it sounds like to me that Georgia played their hearts out against a higher ranked team and barely lost (I expected Georgia to pull the upset at home….or at least wished for it because the Gators needed Georgia to win that game).

Facts:
1. Georgia has top 25 talent and probably will end up in the top 25 this year.
2. Florida is a lot better than everyone thought they would be….but they still have not played anyone yet to really prove it.
3. Florida will get a chance to prove it this coming Saturday against a very good Tennessee team.
4. Georgia will not have to play one of the top 12 teams in the country next week…..and they better win the game next week.

A mark of an excellent head coach is if several of his assistants go on to become head coaches or lead assistant elsewhere. With Richt……I believe Calloway at Alabama Birmingham is the only former assistant that has become a head coach after leaving Georgia. Meyer placed many in HC postions. Even Zook did. I think Richt’s biggest problem is not his leadership of players as the Georgia HC, but his poor decisions in hiring assistant head coaches…..including the current DC…who seems to be in over his head and not nearly as good as the one fired recently by Richt…..Mr. Martinez.

What the heck afre you talking about? This is not about who got what player. Saban wanted IC, Malcolm Mitchell, Ray Drew, Damian Swann, and Stephen Tuitt and he got none of them. What is the state of Alabama football now? Just peachy. It’s about the coach at the top and his staff taking the players they have and coaching them up, as they say. On what planet does USF match up with Notre Dame, Boise with Oklahoma, VT, or UGA, Minnesota with USC, Sacremento St. and Oregon St., Utah St. and Auburn? They match up because the coaches are convincing “borderline” players to come in, redshirt for a year, in some cases start from day one, and turning them into players. No longer do the big schools own the “secrets” to honing a great team. Alabama’s weight room probably runs circles around Utah’s and is probably twice as big. But Utah’s coaches and trainers have the same information and practice the same techniques as Alabama’s in today’s world. Just hit Google or hire a consultant. How did that work out in 2009

And “Ashley” all I am saying is that the team and staff see nothing but a bunch of empty seats at the end of the game at the Georgia Dome and Sanford Stadium. You are in the minority. A typical Bulldog fan is a bandwagon fan who only cares about winning; not tradition, the team or the school. You see it at the Braves games as well.

@Flat Tire on I-95 in Jacksonville

I have it figured out. This staff, especially the coach, has not evolved with the rest of college football at the same rate. They are learning and adapting as they go. T o top it all off, they have an old school mentality when it comes to freshmen and young players still developing. Athletes nowadays come in better prepared to play from day one than even 10 years ago. CMR simply doesn’t trust his players enough to handle a lot of tasks and assignments. Why not Malcolm Mitchell on a screen or a reverse? How about a fake punt with Lemay? How about playing press coverage and sending an extra blitzer every down, like ever other 3-4 defense? You fell me bro?

Looking at the remaining schedule we will lose at least 5 games and my gut says we very well could end up 7-6 again or at the very best 8-5……..To get to those totals we have to either go 8-3 or 7-4 and that won’t be easy………

I kind of felt the same way after the loss to Florida last year in OT. And the rest of the year sucked. I wonder when this “we fought hard sh#t” is going to stop. Dawgs need more than moral victories. Coastal Carolina, Ole Miss maybe? I think that may help, but State comes to town with a team possibly better than South Crapolina, and they have just as many weeks to “tweak” their game. Good luck boys, we are still behind you. I see a loss to Miss St. If the defense, and the team to a certain extent, played better, then how did we allow 45 points? Key stat: Lattimore had 176 yards rushing. If Relf would have pitched the ball to his RB yesterday, Miss. St. would have won that game. If the defense is still a little hazy now, trouble is brewing against Dan Mullen. It’s not a good bet we will win in Tennessee either, because those players seem to be executing according to plan(gee, wonder why) and it’s in Knoxville. That leaves Florida. Forget about it. We will beat Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky, and surprise Auburn (cause bad defense will catch up to you at some point). On second thought, we might beat Florida. Why? Charlie Weis struggles traditionally against the 3-4.

The season is lost so what is the point for them. It now becomes a game of “protect my pro career” I have seen it over and over. Mark my words, we have seen the best of our older, impact players. Also, Arron Murray is the worst QB in the SEC. Great numbers and stats do not win games. I doubt Florida would have won in game one against Boise. And it would have been a toss up at this stage between Florida and SC. Same with SC vs. Boise and Florida. Playing Georgia’s schedule, Florida would be either 1-1 or 0-2 at this stage…….but I think Florida would have looked better going 0-2 or 1-1. I think it is almost laughable how much Georgia fans overpredicted Georgia’s success this year during the summer months…..and even more laughable…..or sad…..how they are overreacting to losing to the 4th and 12th ranked teams in the nation.

With that said…….I think Richt is in big trouble at Georgia…..unless he does pull off a 10-2 or 9-3 season….and 9-3 might not save him if he loses to Florida.

Ole Miss played well against BYU….and should have won the game….and BYU should have won against Texas in Austin. Ole Miss might not be a lock either for the Dawgs. Auburn isn’t a lock either. C-Southern is a lock. So is the other creampuff. Ga. Tech is no lock at this stage. Could get UGly if Ole Miss and MSU step on the Dawgs in the coming weeks. SEC fans should be glad that Boise State is not in the SEC East……the remaining 5 teams would be playing for second place each & every year.

This is exactly why the SEC teams (except for the 3-4 elite SEC teams) simply do not play any solid competition outside of the SEC. The only exceptions are GT & FSU because UGA and Florida are scheduled to play these teams each and every year.

Tell the truth now………if UGA had destroyed an easy opponent in the first game (like most seasons at UGA), everyone in the SEC would be saying UGA & SC are both really solid SEC teams that are strong and a force to be reckoned with this season. The truth is that the Boise State game proved UGA is not very good and SC must not be that stellar since they won ugly & close to a subpar UGA team.

It will be VERY interesting if UGA needs a “W” against GT to earn a bowl bid!

Please do not hate me…….I am simply bringing up some intersting talking points.

GT GRAD — I am not sure what your point is. SEC teams are overrated? UGA isn’t ranked. And you are comparing apples to oranges when you take USC’s performance against UGA compared to UGA’s performance against Boise. As much as UGA would like to believe they were ready to play in Atlanta, a big factor in that game was that we are not rivals. Playing in the SEC week after week creates a “hate factor” that can’t be defined on a quantative scale. That is why the SEC is the toughest conference. Week after week, there are few teams that face as many hated opponents as UGA does, or UF, or USC, or Alabama, or Auburn…. I know that other teams think that idea is a bunch of doo doo but the fact remains, 5 National Championships in a row. The 3-4 elitists are just that. And it’s hard as hell to get there.

Marine Dawg,

Yes we would go 11-3 this season with any coach, and would recruit at least as well as we have been, too. I am unconcerned about the Ray Goff years, and as for Jim Donnan’s 19 losses in his 5 years here, Mark Richt has lost 21 games his last 5 years and is 0-2 this season in addition. “I am still scratching my head over the on side kick with over two minutes to go.”

The onside kick-off ? What about having 3 time-outs, 2 and a half minutes to go, and letting the clock run on 3rd Down ? If he knows what the blazes he is doing, he calls a time-out, obviously, sets the defense to stop a 1st down, and gets the ball back then. Instead, this offensive brain trust that led us down the field on the opening 3 drives to their goal line and settled for field goals in our pass-happy offense with poor passes by Aaron Murray. At the end there, on that 3rd Down by calling time-out, you run blitz Lattimore knowing he will get it; but, we let him break contain outside, get the 1st Down and end the game.

What good did having that last time-out do then ? No, we are a very poorly coached football team. We play Favorites and are afraid to put the other players in the game, for fear that they would show up the coaching staff who has not been able to determine who to play on offense, defense and especially on special teams. What in the world is going on that we give scholarships to every special team player, when none of them play offense or defense ever ? Get our best players on the field. I know everyone thinks the game of football is so hard. It is, at best, a simple game. You hire the top assistant coaches, not praying buddies, and you put your best players on the field. The in-state talent then comes here. You don’t lose every game vs every top team; and you do not lose to more than 1 team every year who does not even finish in the AP Poll Top 25. SEC Football REQUIRES that you run the football. You don’t just run off 26 scholarship players who averaged 3.58; and try to tell the world you are the # 4 best college football coach in all of America and that losing all 26 of them in the last year alone, is just some “addition by subtraction.” This is not propaganga. It is called fact.

“Bizarre game. Carolina got 28 cheap points. You can’t give any team four huge gifts and win. Unfortunately football games are decided by the score at the end. Liked what I saw though. Georgia looked better in every phase of the game except rushing the QB.”

Aaron Murray messed up the hand-off to Isaiah Crowell that led to 7 points, fumbled the football at his feet and got beat up trying to get it back, threw the interception pick 6, and got throw to the turf like a RAG DOLL fumbling the football to put South Carolina ahead by 2 scores at the end of the game.

This is doing better at every phase of the game ?

Compared to what ?

That is obvious. But when you rip coach Richt, you rip the Dawgs too. They read this crap, trust me. Not all of it, but some. And if you weren’t impressed by the effort they gave, well, I don’t’ know what to tell you. That bunch has heart. They gave it everything they have. We are not perfect. We are doing the best we can with what we have. CMR has done well in the past. He deserves more than the crap you throw at him. He knows his back is against the wall. Let this season play out and then start the bashing. Until then, BE A FAN OF THE GEORGIA BULLDAWGS AND STOP BEING SO G.D. NEGATIVE!!!!!!!!!

beanster,

I disagree. I graduated from UGA. Tell me where you are a better Bulldog fan than I and I will tell you you have no idea what you are talking about, a walk-on myself at UGA. I can rip Mark Richt because I am dissatisfied with 21 losses the last 5 years; unimpressed by 3 wins in 13 games vs teams who finished in the AP Poll Top 10 all 11 years; and ashamed of 16 losses to the likes of teams who would not have finished in the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over us, and 10 of those 16 losses to cruddy teams in 11 years to-date did not even finish in the AP Poll Top 25 even with their win over Mark Richt.

There is no moral victory for you beanster in a game so sloppy to start the game that 3 times we take the ball down the field to start the game and all 3 drives ended on pass-happy Aaron Murray failing to check down and threw instead just horrid passes. One, we had a guy open at the 16-yard line and he threw the football to the 8. Another, the guy was wide open. He stood in the pocked and waited and waited and waited. I kept saying throw the football. When he finally did, the coverage caught up. He should have thrown the football on the cut.

Sounds to me like in your last sentence that you AGREE with me that at the end of the season, he is gone. So, then, what we have is that YOU can say that : FIRE HIM AT THE END OF THE SEASON. But, I cannot.

Shall I do as you SAY ? And, not as you DO ?

I believe that you are the problem with this football program. I am saying nothing different tonight than I have said every day in this blog the last 6 consecutive seasons, beanster.

“He knows his back is against the wall. Let this season play out and then start the bashing.”

Mark Richt has not fixed any of this. I have continually said that I love the guy, but that his coaching staff is going to cost him his job. Tonight I log on and you can tell him “He knows his back is against the wall. Let this season play out and then start the bashing.” But, tell me repeatedly I cannot that I am the problem with the program I spend $10,000 a year following.

I was at the Georgia Dome, too; were you sir ?

This needs to end; we need to move on. Your opinion ? “He knows his back is against the wall. Let this season play out and then start the bashing.”

“I saw a team last night could have won the game if this same team hadn’t gotten in its own way! Way too many mistakes to win a close football game like this. The fake punt for a touchdown was the turning point in my opinion. We were poised to stab the dagger in their hearts until then. The Dawgs actually played like they wanted to win; which was totally different from what I saw last week.”

Then, why don’t we ever play our best players on the special teams ? Never in 11 years have we done that. Did you notice who THEY use on THEIR special teams ? That was their Starting DL who took the snap and out-ran our 3rd team players who is all we use on special teams, except of course, Brandon Boykin who pulled his Super Bowl VII Garo Yepremian type pass on special teams with his whiff on the tackle. “The fake punt for a touchdown was the turning point in my opinion.” I, of course, believe that the game was lost after the interception pick 6, on Aaron Murray’s 3rd fumble of the game being thrown down like a RAG DOLL to put South Carolina ahead by 2 scores, when everyone else left the stadium.

“dont be too hasty- 10-2 or 9-3 is still very possible which would be a good building block for next year. You dont want to play Bama this year anyway.next year could be a diffrent story? Bear Bryant had 3 consecutive years of 8-3, 6-5, 6-5-1 . I guess you’d want him fired too ?”

Mark Richt, now you are comparing to Bear Bryant who Won Six (6) National Championships at Alabama in his 24 years; and you don’t want to play Alabama anyway, when that would lead to 11-3 with us having beat no team who ends the season in the Top 10 yet again ?

Bear Bryant, sir, had 19 seasons in which he lost 0, 1 or 2 games at Alabama; another 2 at Texas A and M, and another 1 yet again at Kentucky. The Top college football coach Award is named for him. Instead, what we have is Mark Richt the last 5 years has AVERAGED over 4 LOSSES per season. More than 4 Losses a season average the last 5 years, and is 0-2 this season. That sir, is an irresponsible statement : trying to compare Mark Rictht to Bear Bryant. Good heavens did no one reply to that crudola but I ?

When Mark Richt is Bear Bryant bullfrogs will have wings so that they can fly, instead of having to bump their buns across the rocks.

No, sir. I was watching the game here on my couch in Athens. With a newborn, I opted not to buy season tix this year. Since you walked on at UGA, surely you must know someone in the Athletic Dept where your complaints might not fall on deaf ears. Do you really think that McGarity would fire CMR mid season? (uh, no) So that said, why not let the season play out and see what happens. This team is eerily familiar to the ‘01 squad. Remember that? When Dawg fans were used to losing all the time? And then came the hobnail boot and things as we knew them drastically changed.

Are you a parent? If so, I feel sorry for your kid(s). I just can’t see how you think your endless b*tching and complaining will change anything, except for adding to the discouragement that our players feel like our fan base gives them. As I said before, if you know somebody that has some influence, then do something about it. If not, then shut up, watch the games this year, and when it is all said and done, give us your grand assessment on the state of affairs in Athens and how you could do things so much better. My guess is that just like now, no one will want to hear what you have to say.

Mark Richt is not a championship head coach. Do we want to win championships? Fire Richt, offer Saban 7million a year and watch what happens when a real coach lands in Athens. Wuss bags never finish first in the SEC. We have a wuss bag for a head coach. Who else would have Bozo calling plays? enough said. and fire that Todd Grantham before the Florida game please. what a great hire that was….. holy moly.

He is a brilliant coach. They showed much improvement, they have to hunker down now. We have to win out the season now. A real gorgia fan WOULD NOT TURN THERE BACK ON MARK RICHT! And to the Moron with the comment abour Richt’s faith who didn’t have the courage to put “her” name, Richt wouldn’t even stoop to your level, which I believe is somewhere in a very warm place!!!

I’m a Carolina grad and fan, so I’m happy that Georgia lost. However, UGA football players aren’t whining about the loss or making excuses. They’ve been extremely competitive in both of their losses…to teams ranked higher then them, I might add. There’s no shame in that, no matter how stupid rankings this early in the season are. One SEC loss doesn’t sink anybody’s season.

Hey Murray……thanks oncxe again to your gift of 14 points we lose. I am sick and tired of your talk…time to shut up and get the job done. You talk and prepare a great game…bottom line- you have yet to prove it on the field. Again, out of 14 games- you have yet to beat a winning team……Maybe the coach needs to open the QB position up

I love the way we kicked the ball in the endzone on most of the kickoffs. You can not let a DL score on a fake punt. Our onside kick was close to being a game changer. Over all ga beat their selves again. Murray’s fumble topped it off. Overall I give the dawgs a C. Not a championship callober team. 2 many mistakes. We are young! Until we put together an OL and DL that are seniors and juniors don’t expect any better

Wow – what a game. I thought we had it secured in the third quarter. It really troubles me to see how conservative we play early in the game. SC could do nothing, and yet we did not throw deep passes or capitalize on their ineptitude. We gotta get tough when opportunities arise. Hang it there guys and maybe the season will be OK

Focus on what Spurrier said and you will get down to the bottom line

“They outplayed us”

When a team can outplay the opponent but then still make that one critical mistake that snatches defeat from the jaws of victory – that’s a sign that the leadership needs to change

8-4 would be a miracle
7-5 or 6-6 is more likely

Lose to Tech or have a really bad loss, say to a Kentucky, Vandy, or Miss, and Richt can kiss his job goodbye

One thing is clear, CMR would not recognize an exponential curve if he saw one. He should not use such dribble unless he consulted a math major. In short, an exponential curve increases at a rate not possible in the world of football.

In a post somewhere I read that some Einstein is suggesting fans stop buying tickets, stop buying stuff with the “G” on it and some other ignorant ideas.Wow! Now I’ve heard it all. The suggestion has been made to stop buying the stuff with a “G” on it and stop giving the team our support. Sir or Maam let me say this, that “G” stands for way more than just the football team. That “G” stands for a University that I will forever be proud of and proud to support, no matter the success of the football team. I was once told that I played for the “G” on my hat instead of the name on my back. Sir or Maam, I feel what you are selfishly suggesting is outrageous and it truly demonstrates your connection to UGA. Athens and UGA means more to many folks than just a place to go on Saturdays to watch a football game. No matter what the record I will always support the team and the “G”. So, you can stop buying and supporting UGA if you would like. What these boys and Coaches need is support and your fickle support would not be missed at all. These comments are really reveal the difference between the people that are true Dawgs and those that have absolutely no loyality to the University that I love. So if YOU want to boycott UGA then go right ahead, WE don’t need supporters like YOU. Go Dawgs! Once a Dawg, always a Dawg!
