Here’s some quotes from players and coaches after Georgia’s 45-42 loss to South Carolina Saturday night at Sanford Stadium. . . .
Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt:
“That was an exciting game. The score didn’t turn out the way we wanted. Losing is no fun.”
“South Carolina is a tremendous team, and I think Georgia’s a darn good team if we don’t help the opponent too much.”
“As head coach, I saw an awful lot of great ingredients in this game. I saw a lit fight from our guys, I saw some outstanding plays at crunch time, I saw banged-up guys sucking it up and going. I saw I a lot of resiliency. We can be very good football team, we just had too many giveaways.”
“I thought we kept fighting. We took the lead a couple of times and never gave in. The clock just ran out on us, basically.”
“I wouldn’t say we’re young across the board, but we have enough young people we’re counting on that we’ll get better exponentially.”
“I think the Eastern Division will be decided down the road and I think we’re going to be in the middle of it. I think everybody needs to wait and let it play out.”
“There were so many bad things that happened to us, it would’ve been easy to lay down and die, but we didn’t.”
On play Murray was sacked and fumbled . . .
“We had a slip screen called and their five technique [tackle] went inside and I don’t think Cordy [Glenn] got a hand on him. If you’re gonna get sacked, you get sacked. But Murray had to hold onto the ball there.”
On Isaiah Crowell . . .
“Isaiah is a dynamic player. He got busted in the ribs early in the game and had a hard time breathing. He showed some toughness to be able to finish.”
“We’ve definitely been through some really tough games, games that take a lot of guts, energy and games where you need the majority of things to go right to get the victories. We lost and we understand that. But we’re going to be a good football team. We’re resilient enough to shake it off and make the corrections.”
On throwing his head phones and play cards . . .
“I guess I wanted to show people that I could get mad. I threw them pretty far, too. If I had a visor on I would have slammed it down.”
“We have a tight-knit group. Our guys love each other and believe in each other. We will tweak a couple of things and be in good shape. The future is still very bright. We’ve just got to do things to get results on the scoreboard.”
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier:
“I’ve never won a game like this that I can remember,” Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier said. “Georgia outplayed us. Give them credit, they outplayed us, but somehow or another we won the game. Sometimes it happens like that. Somebody was looking out for us tonight.”
QB Aaron Murray
On the interception…
“I think I just threw it a little behind Orson [Charles]. There was pressure, it was a tight window, and you have to put those right on the money, and I didn’t. The defender made a great play on it.”
On the game…
“I think we had great plays on both sides of the ball. We had some great plays on offense, and the defense had some awesome plays. We just gave up too many big plays and those mistakes hurt us. We can be a great football team, we have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but those four turnovers hurt us.”
On the miscues . . .
“Every mistake we made was big. It stinks to five points away in a ballgame like that. We gave away 28 points tonight. You can’t do that in any game, much less an SEC game.”
TB Isaiah Crowell:
“I hate to lose, but we have to deal with it. We have to come out this week and be ready to work. There isn’t time to put our heads down.”
On what happened on the fumble . . .
“I made a small pocket and the ball hit my hand. It was my fault. I should’ve made a bigger pocket.”
On being put back on the field after the fumble…
“I learned that they have confidence in me. [The fumble] was my fault. I told them it wouldn’t happen again. It was nice to get back out there so I could try to redeem myself.”
On the outlook for the season . . .
“The window is still open to win the East and that’s what we’re focused on.”
LB Christian Robinson:
On the game…
“They made some great plays, and we didn’t do what we needed to do. It’s disappointing, but we’re going to go back to the film room, look at our mistakes and get better.”
On critics…
“It’s our job to get the job done, and we didn’t do that today. It’s not the coaches, it’s us. We played our hearts out and just didn’t finish. I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
CB/KR Brandon Boykin
On mood in the locker room after the loss…
“People were disappointed, but no matter what, we all know that we have to come back on Monday ready to work. We know that we’re capable of winning a lot of games, and winning close games. We’re ready to get back out on the field.”
On kickoff returns…
“I told [the team] before the game that I was going to give all I got. The blockers did a great job of opening the holes, and I just got myself through the holes. I was happy I was able to give the offense good field position.”
OLB Jarvis Jones:
If you play this game long enough you’re going to lose a game like this. It’s tough. This is the SEC. You make mistakes and good teams are going to capitalize on it and that’s what they did.”

Back to you Richt apologists, what is it going to take until you guys and gals realize that Richt is not the answer. Despite his winning record at UGA, he has never won or even appeared in a NCG. I’d trade half of his wins for at least 1 NC!

UGA players = a bunch of smack talking, undisciplined, 0-2 LOSERS! Next week an easy win. I will bet you will see even more trash talking than ever before. These losers are all about themselves. We will watch those gums flap all season while we get beat by more disciplined, team centric players……….. and that is all about coaching and leadership. I hate what has happened to this program

Damn good game Dawgs! Even in a loss, I too am very proud of the effort shown last night. We should’ve won that game but I’m sure since we didn’t that will sting so much that we don’t make the same mistakes again. We can run the table as long as we continue to get better from game to game (as someone else pointed out). I hope we keep CMR longer than the media’s calling for, He’s getting every play involved instead of letting Seniors play. Proud to be a Dawg still!!!

as far as Tim DeRuyter being selected as DC, the same could be said of Manny Diaz, who went from MTSU to Miss. St., and now on to Texas. None of that matters if the offense continues to put more pressure on the defense to perform like a college version of the Steeler’s.

People keep saying UGA can still win the east. Has anyone even looked at USC’s schedule? They are not playing any of the big SEC teams from the west this year. They will probably not lose one…let alone two games for UGA to have a chance at the east title. Once again…this staff and supporters live in fairy tales that everything is fine on the horizon…we are bigger this year, we are faster this year, we are smarter this year…spend your thousands on our program..oh..and we are ZERO and TWO this year. Expect excellence!

@FBFan What the heck are you talking about? It’s funny how everyone points out the things they disagree with on a personal level is magnified when you are losing. If this team was 2-0, would that make them more team-centric and team-oriented? Heck NO!!! UGA’s losses are piling up and every reporter has a microphone and a recorder in the face of all the players asking “college” kids serious, professional, “gotcha” questions. The players are just pointing out what they think they did right or wrong. That’s it. If they would have won, then I guess the answers would appear more humble and team-centric…lmao

The problem is not with Richt but with the NFL allowing Juniors into the draft. Boise had several 5th year seniors and many more regular senior and junior starters then the Dawgs. They are young because the quality players smell the money at the end of their 2nd year and you can’t blame them.

UGA fans came away with the WIN last night. I think it’s high time the coaching staff honors that victory. Apparently, we’re the only winning thing about this team. And you know what? We deserve a lot better…
Tired of a lazy coaching staff. Tired of a coaching staff that doesn’t honor all the fans give, and give, and continue to give, even when what we get in the end is very little. I think we need new blood at UGA to coach this “young team” into a team of championship caliber. Herschel was 18 when he went to the National Championship, right? It. can. happen.

What the heck afre you talking about? This is not about who got what player. Saban wanted IC, Malcolm Mitchell, Ray Drew, Damian Swann, and Stephen Tuitt and he got none of them. What is the state of Alabama football now? Just peachy. It’s about the coach at the top and his staff taking the players they have and coaching them up, as they say. On what planet does USF match up with Notre Dame, Boise with Oklahoma, VT, or UGA, Minnesota with USC, Sacremento St. and Oregon St., Utah St. and Auburn? They match up because the coaches are convincing “borderline” players to come in, redshirt for a year, in some cases start from day one, and turning them into players. No longer do the big schools own the “secrets” to honing a great team. Alabama’s weight room probably runs circles around Utah’s and is probably twice as big. But Utah’s coaches and trainers have the same information and practice the same techniques as Alabama’s in today’s world. Just hit Google or hire a consultant. How did that work out in 2009

I AM A DAWG THROUGH AND THROUGH, A GRADUATE, AND IT PAINS ME TO NO END TO SEE THIS. PROMISES, DREAM TEAMS, CHANGES IN COACHING STAFF. NOTHING IS WORKING. TIME TO CALM DOWN, CLEAN HOUSE FROM TOP TO BOTTOM AND START OVER. DOES ANYONE REALIZE WE’RE NO BETTER THAN VANDERBILT — WITHOUT THE ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS. NO NEED FOR MORE STOP-GAP SUPPOSED SOLUTIONS; CLEAN HOUSE NOW. LET A GRAD ASSISTANT TAKE OVER THE INEPT DEFENSE; EAT D COORDINATOR SALARY; AND ON AND ON. THE RESULT WON’T BE ANY WORSE THAN WHAT IT IS GOING TO BE, FOLKS. A SEASON JUST SHORT OF O-12. THE ONLY TIME I SAW UGA THIS BAD WAS IN GRIFFITH’S LAST SEASON. AND HE DIDN’T DESERVE IT. RICHT DOES. Moral victories aside, the coaching staff always finds a way to lose. No discipline, no clock management, no creativity, no awareness on fake plays(again), a bunch of american idol wannabes instead of football players. The coaching staff is a complete and miserable failure and has been for years. The only lack of moral value is the ability of Richt to resign for the good of the team. Its all about the money for him so he won’t resign. Somebody please give him the buyout he’s waiting for and stop the bleeding. We are a disgusting disgrace, expecially those who don’t have the guts to make a change.

I’m just saying “Disappointed” that I was born a Dawg, have been there through thick and thin, and I am one of many who feels this way. I would never, have never, left a game early, even when it’s grim. I stay til the end. Where’s our genuine, heart-felt thanks from our lack-luster coaching staff? It could come via a beat-down against our next SEC rival. We need to see a BEAT-DOWN. I would accept that.

And “Ashley” all I am saying is that the team and staff see nothing but a bunch of empty seats at the end of the game at the Georgia Dome and Sanford Stadium. You are in the minority. A typical Bulldog fan is a bandwagon fan who only cares about winning; not tradition, the team or the school. You see it at the Braves games as well.

I have it figured out. This staff, especially the coach, has not evolved with the rest of college football at the same rate. They are learning and adapting as they go. T o top it all off, they have an old school mentality when it comes to freshmen and young players still developing. Athletes nowadays come in better prepared to play from day one than even 10 years ago. CMR simply doesn’t trust his players enough to handle a lot of tasks and assignments. Why not Malcolm Mitchell on a screen or a reverse? How about a fake punt with Lemay? How about playing press coverage and sending an extra blitzer every down, like ever other 3-4 defense? You fell me bro?
