Here’s some quotes from players and coaches after Georgia’s 45-42 loss to South Carolina Saturday night at Sanford Stadium. . . .
Georgia Head Coach Mark Richt:
“That was an exciting game. The score didn’t turn out the way we wanted. Losing is no fun.”
“South Carolina is a tremendous team, and I think Georgia’s a darn good team if we don’t help the opponent too much.”
“As head coach, I saw an awful lot of great ingredients in this game. I saw a lit fight from our guys, I saw some outstanding plays at crunch time, I saw banged-up guys sucking it up and going. I saw I a lot of resiliency. We can be very good football team, we just had too many giveaways.”
“I thought we kept fighting. We took the lead a couple of times and never gave in. The clock just ran out on us, basically.”
“I wouldn’t say we’re young across the board, but we have enough young people we’re counting on that we’ll get better exponentially.”
“I think the Eastern Division will be decided down the road and I think we’re going to be in the middle of it. I think everybody needs to wait and let it play out.”
“There were so many bad things that happened to us, it would’ve been easy to lay down and die, but we didn’t.”
On play Murray was sacked and fumbled . . .
“We had a slip screen called and their five technique [tackle] went inside and I don’t think Cordy [Glenn] got a hand on him. If you’re gonna get sacked, you get sacked. But Murray had to hold onto the ball there.”
On Isaiah Crowell . . .
“Isaiah is a dynamic player. He got busted in the ribs early in the game and had a hard time breathing. He showed some toughness to be able to finish.”
“We’ve definitely been through some really tough games, games that take a lot of guts, energy and games where you need the majority of things to go right to get the victories. We lost and we understand that. But we’re going to be a good football team. We’re resilient enough to shake it off and make the corrections.”
On throwing his head phones and play cards . . .
“I guess I wanted to show people that I could get mad. I threw them pretty far, too. If I had a visor on I would have slammed it down.”
“We have a tight-knit group. Our guys love each other and believe in each other. We will tweak a couple of things and be in good shape. The future is still very bright. We’ve just got to do things to get results on the scoreboard.”
South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier:
“I’ve never won a game like this that I can remember,” Gamecocks head coach Steve Spurrier said. “Georgia outplayed us. Give them credit, they outplayed us, but somehow or another we won the game. Sometimes it happens like that. Somebody was looking out for us tonight.”
QB Aaron Murray
On the interception…
“I think I just threw it a little behind Orson [Charles]. There was pressure, it was a tight window, and you have to put those right on the money, and I didn’t. The defender made a great play on it.”
On the game…
“I think we had great plays on both sides of the ball. We had some great plays on offense, and the defense had some awesome plays. We just gave up too many big plays and those mistakes hurt us. We can be a great football team, we have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball, but those four turnovers hurt us.”
On the miscues . . .
“Every mistake we made was big. It stinks to five points away in a ballgame like that. We gave away 28 points tonight. You can’t do that in any game, much less an SEC game.”
TB Isaiah Crowell:
“I hate to lose, but we have to deal with it. We have to come out this week and be ready to work. There isn’t time to put our heads down.”
On what happened on the fumble . . .
“I made a small pocket and the ball hit my hand. It was my fault. I should’ve made a bigger pocket.”
On being put back on the field after the fumble…
“I learned that they have confidence in me. [The fumble] was my fault. I told them it wouldn’t happen again. It was nice to get back out there so I could try to redeem myself.”
On the outlook for the season . . .
“The window is still open to win the East and that’s what we’re focused on.”
LB Christian Robinson:
On the game…
“They made some great plays, and we didn’t do what we needed to do. It’s disappointing, but we’re going to go back to the film room, look at our mistakes and get better.”
On critics…
“It’s our job to get the job done, and we didn’t do that today. It’s not the coaches, it’s us. We played our hearts out and just didn’t finish. I’m looking forward to getting back out there.”
CB/KR Brandon Boykin
On mood in the locker room after the loss…
“People were disappointed, but no matter what, we all know that we have to come back on Monday ready to work. We know that we’re capable of winning a lot of games, and winning close games. We’re ready to get back out on the field.”
On kickoff returns…
“I told [the team] before the game that I was going to give all I got. The blockers did a great job of opening the holes, and I just got myself through the holes. I was happy I was able to give the offense good field position.”
OLB Jarvis Jones:
If you play this game long enough you’re going to lose a game like this. It’s tough. This is the SEC. You make mistakes and good teams are going to capitalize on it and that’s what they did.”

Hey Richt, you better bring a dictionary to practice on Monday so the players can learn what exponentially means. Good luck against the high school team next week!

That is what happened last year in the Liberty Bowl and last week against BSU, why change now?

“That was an exciting game.
Alas Mark in the record book it’ll still show as a loss. There won’t be an asterik after the L that says ‘but it was an exciting game’.

Looking at the remaining schedule we will lose at least 5 games and my gut says we very well could end up 7-6 again or at the very best 8-5……..To get to those totals we have to either go 8-3 or 7-4 and that won’t be easy………

I kind of felt the same way after the loss to Florida last year in OT. And the rest of the year sucked. I wonder when this “we fought hard sh#t” is going to stop. Dawgs need more than moral victories. Coastal Carolina, Ole Miss maybe? I think that may help, but State comes to town with a team possibly better than South Crapolina, and they have just as many weeks to “tweak” their game. Good luck boys, we are still behind you. Just get better, and finish the drill……….

This reminds me of the 2007 Dawgs. This team is going to be excellent. CMR has them going in the right direction. I wouldn’t be surprised if we went undefeated the rest of the season.
Go Dawgs!

I see a loss to Miss St. If the defense, and the team to a certain extent, played better, then how did we allow 45 points? Key stat: Lattimore had 176 yards rushing. If Relf would have pitched the ball to his RB yesterday, Miss. St. would have won that game. If the defense is still a little hazy now, trouble is brewing against Dan Mullen. It’s not a good bet we will win in Tennessee either, because those players seem to be executing according to plan(gee, wonder why) and it’s in Knoxville. That leaves Florida. Forget about it. We will beat Ole Miss, Vandy, Kentucky, and surprise Auburn (cause bad defense will catch up to you at some point). On second thought, we might beat Florida. Why? Charlie Weis struggles traditionally against the 3-4.

I’m not sure about getting exponentially better just yet. A win next week and then show some linear improvement in the 2 SEC games following would be an improvement.

Any sport is played one game at a time but fans don’t have the patience for that. Blogs such as this fuel the fire and create a mob mentality. However, having read the divergent opinions of what ails the dawgs, it is just a reminder that opinions are worth what they cost.

To show how bad of shape the program is in. Look at some other DOORMATS in the SEC and see what they have done in the last 30 games.

Hate to burst your bubble Slydog, but UGA WILL lose to Miss St, Tenn, Fla, Aub, and GaT. Book it! After yesterday, the seniors, or any pro prospects, are done! The season is lost so what is the point for them. It now becomes a game of “protect my pro career” I have seen it over and over. Mark my words, we have seen the best of our older, impact players. Also, Arron Murray is the worst QB in the SEC. Great numbers and stats do not win games. It is essential for a great QB the be a leader first, and a winner second…he is neither of these things (never won a big game..ever!) He needs to be benched now and lets get Lemay ready and try to save next year.

Georgia fires Richt, who in their right mind comes to UGA when you fire the 9th winniest active coach?
Kirby Smart hasn’t proven anything, Nick Saban is defacto defensive coordinator for the Tide.
Neither Muschamp nor Mullen will consider UGA, nor will any other worthwhile candidate while the fan base is so fickle and full of ignorant hate.
Let the AD run the program, when he thinks it is time for change, he will pull the trigger

As the staff and players of the Georgia football team walked slowly off the field Saturday night, about half the fans above the locker room tunnel stood. Then they did something no Bulldog fans did last week: They applauded their team!
The heck with all the so-called UGA fans who are just fair-weathered and have no backbone. UGA is turning the corner. Can you give them 2 games to get it together? The team had a losing record last year and this is a NEW team with MANY new guys playing BIG ROLES. They were favored to LOSE against Boise ST and S.C. OK? NOW they are going to learn to win. AND ONCE THEY DO THERE IS NOT STOPPING THEM FOR YEARS TO COME!
No we are NOT PROUD TO LOSE, We are PROUD TO BE AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL YOU SO-CALLED FANS. WE ARE SHOWING SUPPORT FOR OUR TEAM IN THE GOOD AND BAD TIMES.
PLEASE WHEN WE ARE WINNING OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS WITH RICHT AS HEAD COACH……PLEASE DO NOT CELEBRATE WITH US REAL AND TRUE FANS WHO BELIEVED AND STUCK BY THEM!

I see comments that UGA hasn’t won a National Championship in 31 years, they weren’t exactly bringing them in with great frequency before that, I seem to recall the last was 1942. The SEC isn’t a cupcake conference, this isn’t he Big 10, Pac 10, or Big 12, One team isn’t going to dominate like Alabama did in the 60’s and 70’s, or Florida in the 90’s. Go Dawgs!

The Truth…..
I doubt Florida would have won in game one against Boise. And it would have been a toss up at this stage between Florida and SC. Same with SC vs. Boise and Florida. Playing Georgia’s schedule, Florida would be either 1-1 or 0-2 at this stage…….but I think Florida would have looked better going 0-2 or 1-1. I think it is almost laughable how much Georgia fans overpredicted Georgia’s success this year during the summer months…..and even more laughable…..or sad…..how they are overreacting to losing to the 4th and 12th ranked teams in the nation.
With that said…….I think Richt is in big trouble at Georgia…..unless he does pull off a 10-2 or 9-3 season….and 9-3 might not save him if he loses to Florida.

Vandy has a new and very good coach…..and they are playing well. I would not lock that one in just yet for Georgia. The Vols game certainly isn’t a lock. Neither is the Florida game. Ole Miss played well against BYU….and should have won the game….and BYU should have won against Texas in Austin. Ole Miss might not be a lock either for the Dawgs. Auburn isn’t a lock either. C-Southern is a lock. So is the other creampuff. Ga. Tech is no lock at this stage. Could get UGly if Ole Miss and MSU step on the Dawgs in the coming weeks. Then again….it could get very good for the Dawgs if they go into JAX on a long winning streak. This is why they play the game.

You know what’s laughable? Or sad? No, just laughable. Being just some dude behind a computer screen who thinks he can authoritatively predict what the team he chooses to root for, who has not played a serious opponent yet this season mind you, would have done against the opponents that UGA has faced so far in 2011. Not an “authoritative” prediction at all….since Florida actually does not play Boise or SC in the first two games. They play much weaker opponents, as you mentioned. More like……a theory based on a fan’s personal, very unauthoritarian “evaluation” of talent and performances of the various teams involved. But say what you will….and laugh all you want.
