Georgia WR Tavarres King has already forgotten Boise State debacle

ATHENS – Asked if the Boise State game was one he’d just as soon forget, Georgia wide receiver Tavarres King shot back, “What game?”

In addition to having quick feet, the junior flanker from Mt. Airy is quick witted. He’s also resilient, which he has needed to be since last Saturday in the Georgia Dome.

Known as the leader of the Bulldogs’ receiving corps as well as one of their most dependable receiving targets, everybody was surprised when King ended up dropping two passes against Boise State. He finished with a single catch for three yards as the Bulldogs fell 35-21.

“Individually it wasn’t up to par,” said King, who had 27 catches for 504 yards last season. “Everybody knows that. Everybody knows that I make plays. But for some reason in that game I lost focus on two plays and didn’t execute.”

One of the plays was particularly big. Georgia was down 21-7 but on the move in Boise State territory midway through the third quarter when quarterback Aaron Murray found King open deep over the middle on second-and-12. The ball was delivered right on target, but King dropped it.

Murray was sacked on the next play, then Blair Walsh missed a 54-yard field goal attempt.

King had another drop late in the third quarter but was bailed out later in the possession when Orson Charles hauled in a 36-yard touchdown pass on fourth-and-two.

“In this business you’ve got to have a short memory,” said King, who needs just 50 receiving yards to go over 1,000 in his career. “That’s in the past. I put it behind me as soon as it happened. Even the greatest drop balls, so I’m fine.”

The question for the Bulldogs is whether this what life after A.J. Green is going to be like. Wideouts accounted for just seven catches for 92 yards in the first game. Freshman Malcolm Mitchell led the way with three for 64 and a touchdown, Marlon Brown added two for 12 and Rantavious Wooten had one for 13

Charles, a tight end, led all receivers with 6 catches for 106 yards and a score.

Head coach Mark Richt indicated the competition for playing time this week was wide open. But he said he still feels confident in the play-making abilities of the wideouts.

“I think we have a talented wide receiving corps, I really do,” Richt said. “If you’re watching them in practice every day, they’ve got ability. But we’ve all got to make the plays when our numbers are called. We’ve got to get some momentum and everybody will join the party, but we’ve got to get it going.”

Crowell longs for Lattimore-like carries

Georgia freshman tailback Isaiah Crowell said he has been impressed with what he’s seen from South Carolina’s star runner Marcus Lattimore. What he likes about him most is how many times he gets to run the football.

“That’s a tailback’s dream,” Crowell said.

Lattimore had 37 carries for 182 yards and 2 TDs in South Carolina’s 17-6 win over Georgia last year. Later he surpassed it with 40 carries for 212 yards and 3 TDs in a win over Florida. He finished with 249 carries and 1,197 yards and 19 TDs in 13 games last season.

Crowell had 15 carries for 60 yards in his Georgia debut last Saturday. “I think I did pretty good. I could have done a little better on pass protection, but overall I think I did pretty good for my first game,” he said.

He’d like to get significantly more against the Gamecocks.

“I know everybody’s going to be comparing me and Lattimore with each other,” Crowell said. “I just have to go out there and do my best. Hopefully I’ll get as many carries. But I’m just trying to help my team win, that’s the main thing.”

Alec Ogletree out longer than anticipated

Fullback Zander Ogletree told reporters Wednesday that his injured twin brother Alec Ogletree plans to make it back for the Florida game on Oct. 29. If that’s the case, he will be out longer than originally expected.

Alec Ogletree, Georgia’s starting “Mo” linebacker, broke a bone in his right foot in the first quarter of last Saturday’s loss to Boise State. Afterward, Richt said Ogletree would be sidelined for four to six weeks. It will have been eight weeks by the time the Bulldogs play the Gators. Ogletree underwent surgery Monday at St. Mary’s hospital.

Charles not to blame

It looked like tight end Orson Charles was to blame when Boise State’s Shea McClellin came free to stop Richard Samuel for a loss on crucial fourth-and-one play at the Broncos’ 26 in the second quarter last Saturday. Charles was coming in motion to the right and ran right by McClellin and up the field.

“It wasn’t him,” Richt said of Charles. “The look was a little different than what we had seen on film throughout the offseason study, but there was no excuse for letting the guy go free. But it wasn’t Orson. It looked like it was him, but it wasn’t.”

Fullback Zander Ogletree and tackle Justin Anderson both blocked the tackle on the play.

Lots of eyes on UGA-Boise State

ESPN’s telecast of the Georgia-Boise State football game was a big winner on Atlanta television Saturday night. The game drew a 16.7 local Nielsen rating, meaning 16.7 percent of TV households in the market tuned in on average. That translated to an audience of about 402,000 homes.

How other televised sports events Saturday night fared in the Atlanta market: the LSU-Oregon football game on ABC: 5.6 rating, 134,800 homes; the Nationwide Series race from Atlanta Motor Speedway on ESPN2: 2.3 rating, 55,400 homes; and the Braves-Dodgers game on SportSouth: 2.0 rating, 48,200 homes.

Etc. . . .

Georgia has added Southern University and Louisiana-Monroe to its 2015 home schedule, according to open-record documents obtained by the AJC this week. The Bulldogs will pay Southern $650,000 to come to Athens on Sept, 5, 2015, and will pay Louisiana-Monroe $1.2 million to play on Nov. 7, 2015. . . . The Bulldogs held a closed “dress-rehearsal” practice at Sanford Stadium on Thursday. No players or coaches were available for interviews afterward.

Well if Crowell wants the rock. Feed it to him. I have confidence that this guy can run for over 100 yards every game if given the right amount of carries. He could be a 1,000 yard rusher his freshman season if Bobo and Richt would RUN THE BALLLLLLL!!!!!! They don’t run it enough! Did you see how many carries Spurrier gave Lattimore?! Particularly in the UGA and Florida games. The guy ran the ball 77 times when you combine the UGA and Florida games only. My goodness. Let Crowell tote the damn ball Richt and Bobo!

Malcolm needs one more big showing vs. an SEC defense and I think he needs to be named a starting WR. If he’s better than King or Brown, LET HIM PLAY. I don’t care what year he’s in! If the kid can play, he can play. Let him become a Bulldog legend. Dang, when will this coaching staff get it?!!!!

Cat, Agreed. MM looks like he can play this game. On Crowell, there was one run where he nicely bounced outside and our WR just ran by his block. The safety was able to slow him down for a decent gain. Had we blocked him Crowell would have had at least 10 more yards and maybe more. I think it was Bennett, but I could be wrong on that one. The play where Charles ran right by the guy would have easily made the 1st if anybody had blocked the BSU player. A block here, and a block there–could have made a difference. It bothered me that Charles left him untouched, so it is good to know he was doing his job.

Now King was a bit humble, and Rambo apologized, he shouldn’t have said he could have made a difference, he should have stopped short and left it at letting his teamates down.

Mobile, you can go back and watch Crowell’s interview from a few weeks ago on Georgia Dogs. They asked him a bunch of questions about Lattimore. On the first question about a comparison, Crowell said something to the effect that he tried to not to worry about stuff like that, that was up to God. He would just try to help his team and do his job. Very humble, but confident in wanting to try to help. They kept asking him questions about Lattimore–had he talked to him, did he know him, and they rephrased the same question about impact. I think when you get asked a question repeatedly, an answer like the one he gave his actually a patient response. Crowell has acknowledged that Lattimore is a great player and Crowell said he hoped he could similarly help his team. I don’t see how he could have handled this any better. Sometimes the media can only give part of the clip. Crowell never brought this up that I’m aware of, and he has been badgered a bit about it.

Bobo run the ball? LOL. He did the last two games of 2009 and it was the most productive UGA was all season with Cox at QB. Will he come out and do it this week with a true freshman back averaging 4.0 yards a carry against the #4 team in the country with ZERO blocking? Nah….
Then will he throw it to the same freshman back who is an EXCELLENT receiver and might go the distance on ANY play? NAH.

Call the plays Richt. Call the plays.

Fire Bobo at the end of this season for the love of UGA. It has gone steadily downhill with Bobo as OC and calling plays. Look no further than the bowl game last year. You got to throw em changeups and have plans B, C, D,E, F, AND G!

Throw short to the backs and receivers until they stop it or slow it down and when they creep up, burn them deep!

Lou Holtz said Richt is a GREAT coach but if he dont do something about Bobo, he is going to let Bobo cost him his job. I agree 100%.

Pierce CO Dawg @ 8:32, don’t hold your breath, you will look Boise Blue pretty quick waiting on me, and probably look a lot like the Dawgs in the fourth quarter, no pulse. It would take a lot more than one performance to change my opinion, think about it, for about 10 seconds, let’s put on our rose colored glasses, and have a shot of that colored beverage, now, the Dawgs come out and run USC East off the field. That’s an indictment in itself of the poor job these coaches did attempting to prepare for Boise. That in itself would be what some of us that actually know how to think for ourselves have been complaining about, the inconsistency. It would admittedly be an improvement if they could compete with USC, I will acknowledge that.

CH Dawg, I will stand corrected on that. As a Freshman, obviously being baited and every word quoted he’s hasn’t done anything publicly to draw attention to himself. I read his quote, “I know everybody’s going to be comparing me and Lattimore with each other,” Crowell said.” and thought he should just have continued to give Lattimore his due.

I hope he (IC) has a good game. I would hope to see some light Saturday, but I’ve been hoping the same thing for the last three years now, and the only thing that’s consistent is the lack of performance from the coaches.

I have seen my “much loved Bulldogs” continue to decline!!! It is a “sad state” in Athens and no one really seems to want to do anything about it. Alumni and Fans need to send a message to Adams and McGarity and stop the “money”. Same here on the game, Mobile. I think Crowell has handled himself well so far. I suspect that part of the reason he didn’t make that interview is that he doesn’t want to talk before he produces something, but I’m just guessing. If I were hid Dad, I would high five him on how he has handled himself (just from what I have seen). And then I would slip him a twenty and tell him to chop the locks and button the chin strap! One thing we have to remember though, and that is that being a great TB in the SEC requires having some fire in your belly. Herschel comes across as Godly and nice guy–a real gentleman, but I don’t think anybody doubts that he has that competitive fire in his belly. That is the only thing I didn’t see the other night against Boise–IC has that determination, too, and he needs to let that work for him, while keeping it under control. He looked a little too passive on the sideline to me. Your team is losing; let’s pound out some yards. It was his first game on a big new stage.

Agree, if I were IC’s father, no locks. As for Herschel, Dooley said he wasn’t impressive at all in practice. He honestly didn’t know what he had until that fateful night when he ran over Bates. I don’t think there will “ever” be another back that compares to Herschel. IC won’t ever be a great back at UGA with Mark Richt as his coach. I really wonder why IC went to UGA. Richt isn’t a coach that likes to use a running back except to block for his prolific passing game. I know my rhetoric is negative sounding to some, I just say what I really feel. I like and support him, although things have been pretty rough of late, and it is hard to hang tough at times like this, but I think he is a great coach who is in a rough patch, as opposed to being a cruddy coach in a good patch all of those successful years. Moreno did pretty well under him, and he used to take himself out–Richt would have run him more. I think Richt and Bobo try to use whatever works best. If IC can average 20 yds/carry in the 1qtr on Sat, I would bet a week’s pay that he will tote the rock as much as he would like! Go Dawgs.

I watched Charlie Weis offense on sports south tonight and he had Dempsy and Rains(?) both in the back field and then go off left and right so the Gator QB could quickly through to either. I am not sure the pass was behind the line, but hit the RB moving forward. 20 yard Touchdown, untouched.

Please do it with Crowell and Samuel.

My kindergarten student asked me on Tuesday if I had watched the game, and of course I said that I had. He said, “Did you like the uniforms?” My reply, “I liked the helmets a lot.” His typical five-year-old answer was, “The uniforms looked like Transformers. I loved them!” Hey, the uniforms were much better than some we have seen from other teams. Another one of my students had on a t-shirt today that said “I Eat and Sleep UGA Football.” These cute little boys have their minds in the right places….Coastal GA kids are like that!!

I seriously doubt that Lattimore could gain 60 yards behind our pathetic offensive line.

If King is the leader of our receiver corps, then we can write off any semblance of a passing attack. He can’t shine MM’s shoes.

Did Richt really spend all that time and effort recruiting IC to let him be second string to a linebacker who has already proved he can’t run the ball?

USC – 42- dogs 17.

Best of luck to you this Saturday T. King. You are a talented WR and you can make some plays against South Carolina.

I don’t understand Richt’s comment that Charles was supposed to go out on a pass pattern on a crucial 4th and 1 when the guy in front of him was crashing in on the play. Maybe it is Richt just trying to protect him.

I just hate hearing a $3M head coach say that “they gave us a different look”. I hope we are better prepared this Saturday for a 4th and short play. My recommendation is that if we have a TE in the slot and we call a running play. That TE should get in front of anyone coming in to make the tackle. Maybe I’m wrong and it is above my pay grade, but this comment makes me very nervous about the state of our program.

Come on guys give BSU and Georgia a break. Did anyone watch the game in the trenches? Boise State just was the more physical team. Georgia had some brilliant moments though and should prove pretty tough against the rest of their schedule. Crowell will shine against a lackluster defense. Boise’s front four is (arguably)one of the best in college football right now. Georgia has a pretty tough run defense as well. Martin usually carves up defenses but couldn’t against those guys. I think Georgia will be fine.

I don’t know about forgot about it; but I am sick and tired about talking about how poorly we have been doing in football. I am fed up with it. I am even more fed up with posters saying that no one could post about it, and then, every one of them, in every post themselves, saying how poorly we are doing in football nowadays. The facts are 100 percent of us our fed up with it. Even the staunch supporters of Mark Richt and his coaching staff say that at the end the season, the coaches have to be replaced. 83 percent of us all have also responded to the poll that we all believe we LOSE to South Carolina. It’s sickening. It does give me a chance to get some work done this year during football season. I have zero expectation, having read the RICHT-0-FILES’ posts, that we have any hope of doing anything ALL SEASON 2011 about any of the problems THEY SAY we have. One of the plays was particularly big. Georgia was down 21-7 but on the move in Boise State territory midway through the third quarter when quarterback Aaron Murray found King open deep over the middle on second-and-12. The ball was delivered right on target, but King dropped it.

Lattimore was almost the whole S.C. engine last year and we saw how the injuries and weariness got to him at the end of the season. NCBF, he was the reason you even won the weak SEC East Div. last year. Garcia looked good, because the focus was on your running back, not the whole offense. When teams beat you, they stopped Lattimore first and worried about Garcia afterwards. They knew he couldn’t win the game himself.
UGA can not afford to put the whole game on our RB. It is not fair to him, and we are too thin ar RB to run the same RB 35-40 times a game. It is a long season and he doesn’t need to end up like Lattimore did last year. We also do not need to play typical Bobo Ball and run up the middle all day long and expect a sudden miracle where our O line starts blowing defenses off of the line of scrimmage and open gaping holes, for the RB. When we go to the outside with our runs, we have a big FB and big TE’s that can lead the way, and he can get some more of those 12 yard runs like he did ONE TIME against Boise, Why did we only try that once? If the D can’t stop it, run it until they figure it out and then maybe try and punch it up the middle. What is so hard about that concept for the OC to grasp? Crowell has the makings a a very special player, but if we keep running him into a crowd of big uglies all of the time, after about the 6th game if not sooner, he is going to be beaten up and watching from the bench with multiple aches and pains, that will keep lingering on and affect him for the rest of the season. Do we then actually turn to Samuels as the RB of the team, or do we simply abandon the running game and become one dimensional? Let’s mix it up as little on offense this week and I bet our defense looks a lot better because we did. If we try the same old stuff this week, that is now exactly what ewvery teams defense knows we will do, we are not going to make a decent game of it. I am of the opinion that S.C. is a lot more physical, and equally as well coached as Boise, so it is time to play some serious ball and come with a game plan designed to win, not just one designed to keep us from losing too bad.

Sorry Isaiah Crowell! You will never get as many carries as Lattimore. You must have mistaken UGA for “Tailback U.” It doesn’t matter that you are clearly the best running back on this team by far. Richt and Booboo will continue to rotate you with the other mediocre backs every other series. This approach has proven to be so effective resulting in a near .500 record the previous 2-years. Does it really matter anyways. Booboo’s offensive play calling is so creative that everytime the offense lines up the defense knows when you are going to run and where you are going to run. You will earn every yard you gain!

If you get the ball 30+ times and Booboo lets you run outside the tackles a couple of times UGA wins the game. Go Dawgs!

Mike Bobo will need to be put at the kiddie table, while Richt and some other offensive minds come up with that plan. Invite some great High School coaches to consult. Ask Grantham what plays he would have the most trouble stopping and hates to defend.

I like Charlie Weis’ play where he has two running backs behind the QB and then splits them either direction on a curl or wheel type route to the left and right, having the QB hit his choice in stride. It is quick and it gives the RB a chance to do his thing against a smaller group of defenders (size and numbers).

One on one, I think Crowell could beat most SC d backs. Samuel could bowl over and punish them.

It is a neat play.

St. Richt

He has all the potential in the world. But its just that right now, potential. Lattimore has already proven to be a big time back and is probably one of the top 3 in all of college football. You can’t compare yourself to those types of players as a freshman who gained 60 yards in his first outing. I’m just saying that the kid needs to stop focusing on what he did to impress people in high school. And earn some respect at the college level before assuming that people want to compare him against guys like Lattimore. Do something first. Because pretty much any non-UGA fan would laugh at the arrogance of that comment.

Well, when your team runs onto the field in power ranger costumes, and plays like clowns, after tweeting insults to the opposing coach…..your fans need short memories, too.

My prediction: we will be well behind on the scoreboard as the 4th Quarter begins – and we will be treated to the sight of our ‘playas’ happily dancing up and down on the sideline as if they didn’t have a care in the world. After the loss, our Coach will use the phrase “we’ve got to work on [insert football fundamental skill of your choice]“.

Then, the ‘playas’ will tweet all week long about how we don’t appreciate them.

He loves to embarrass us and would love to see a half empty Sanford Stadium at half-time. That’s what scares me about this game. Let’s face it… If USCe wins this game and beats Arkansas they are going undefeated and will have a 50/50 shot to beat LSU or Bama in the SECCG. They really have a cake walk to the MNC game. I am praying for a UGA win because it has been sooooo long since CMR won one.

Couple things:

1) I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me. That’s in a sanctuary, at home, or on here with all the atheists and the like.

2) I’m not remotely surprised Tavarres has forgotten about the game; as he has certainly forgotten how to catch the football.

Would love to see Georgia play some football this weekend as last weekend was hard on this old fan.
One point of interest, like someone stated early on, play ball, make plays and when the game is over show your stuff as you seem to waste lots of energy just showing off after one play. Remember there are many plays, make them all then celebrate big time. Come on Dwags

Mr. Peterson vs. Bozo – assuming you’re a GT fan, because typically, the BSU fans have showed light years more class than GT fans usually do (as always, there is an exception here and there). That being said, shut up and go back to your quadruple option with a QB that throws 10 passes a game; 7 are 3 yard hook patterns, and 3 “deep balls” that resemble a basketball lob pass.

For the fire CMR crowd, yes, last year was a disaster at 6-7. The year before was 8-5. Both of those years were with first year starters at QB. But the year before that was 2008 and they had a 10 win season. And four years ago was 2007 and they won 11 games topped off by a BCS bowl game win. In fact, before the 8-5 2009 season, UGA had won 74 games over a 7 year span from 2002-2008. But back to back mediocre seasons and everyone thinks they’re a soon-to-be SEC coach themselves. Let this season play out!

It appears that the Kool-Aid consumption is gradually increasing to pre-BSU levels. Okay, here’s what it will take for the dogs to beat USC:

1. Mark Richt, Mike Bozo, and Todd Grantham get drunk and are arrested for drunk and disorderly, and miss the game. That’s worth 28 points for UGA.

2. The UGA players wear their lucky red panties, the special ones made of silk and lace that they really love. No points, but the players feel sooooo good.

3. Burn the Nike clownsuits. 3 points.

4. All UGA players on the sideline will wear Steve Spurrier masks. 3 points.

5. Hussein Obama blesses South Carolina. A million points.

6. A miracle happens.

USC 48, UGA 10.

We’ve still got two good starting corners, an excellent punter and an excellent kicker. If that’s enough to win games in the SEC then we might win a few.

I’m not sure that it is. Our D-line still doesn’t get any push. We were decent against the run last week but we also weren’t facing an SEC line or Lattimore. I’m not eager to see Lattimore beating against Sulek or any of our fresh faced frosh MLBs.

Our O-line didn’t gain 2 years of game experience together as a unit in a week so I’m not expectiving them to be much better. That means that Murray will be a non-factor.

Crowell looked a lot like King last week. I didn’t see anything that led me to believe that with the abscense of a capable line he’d be able to carry the team.

At this point I’m just holding out hope for Kirby Smart’s health and hoping he’ll be our next head coach.

Who needs to read that preview ?

Little Aaron Murray, SEC # 1 BEST QUARTERBACK in the ENTIRE SEC, twits before kick-off last Saturday how he is going to personally go and whoop some a** vs Boise State and promptly, instead, by direct contrast, goes out and gets just dominated by the opposing QB head-to-head – for the 8th time as our Starting QB.

8 times the opposing QB has DOMINATED our QB head-to-head since this LOSER took over as our Starting QB.

Dual-threat QB.

# 1 BEST Quarterback in the ENTIRE SEC.

“whoop some a**” vs Boise State

He is unable to see the field, and is slower than the 300 lbs DL who tackle him when he just stands there behind the line of scrimmage calling his own number on every play every game.

He cannot run his way out of a wet-paper bag.

Dual-threat # 1 Best QB in The SEC.

DISNEYdawgs.com – you guys are unable to see the game of football when you are looking at it. So, you run in here to brag on the very ones, you should be keeping your mouths SHUT-UP about.

So, now that he tweets pre-game that he is going to whoop some a** all of a sudden you finally follow my advice and shut the friq up. Why is that ?

Because you know absolutely a QB who has NEVER beat anyone now in his 3rd year, fixing to be year 4 since he arrived here, should NEVER have logged on to a national Twitter account of his and tweeted to the world that he was going to the game now to whoop some a**

- so you shut up about it.
