ATHENS — Sorry for the relative lack of presence on the blog today. I had to tune into the SEC Coaches teleconference, videotape a segment for ESPN’s College GameDay and go get my knee worked on at my orthopedist’s office. But I’m saddled up here at practice now and will bring you updates the rest of the day.
As for the SEC teleconferecne, Georgia coach Mark Richt continued to get peppered with thinly-veiled queries insinuating that is job may be on this line this week or this year or whatever. For him, that’s pretty much four days in a row of that line of questioning and you can tell that’s it’s starting to wear on him a little bit.
I’ll just quickly share some of his answers from his 10-minute or so session and you’ll get an idea what I mean:
Does Saturday’s game feel like a must-win?
“I wouldn’t say that. It’s a very important game for us, very crucial for the Eastern Division race. It’s not a must win mathematically for the race or not a must win in any other way I know of. But is it crucially important? There’s no doubt about that. But we look at every game like it’s a must-win game, so however you want to spin it, you can spin it. You guys spin it anyway you want anyway. So do with that what you want.”
What’s the general feeling on the team about having to face No. 12 South Carolina coming off such a disappointing loss to Boise State?
“I’d say excitement right now. These guys are really excited about playing this ballgame. They’re getting a chance to play between the hedges for the first time this year, getting play SEC competition for the first time. Maybe they’ll get some form of redemption for last week as far as how we played overall. So everybody’s got a good attitude. They showed up ready to work.”
What about keeping up team morale?
“We don’t have that issue right now. Everybody out there might think that, but nobody had to push anybody yesterday. Everybody’s in, everybody’s working hard, the scout teamers know that Tuesdays and Wednesdays are their game days basically . They’ve got to go great job to simulate what’s going on and I thought they did their part. We were in full pads going live football and competing. There’s no motivational issue right now. There’s no need for anybody to pick anybody up. We’re just going to contuinue to work hard and prepare.”
What are you doing to insulate your team from crictism?
“We’re just coaching ball, OK? You guys want to make things bigger than they are. The bottom line is like anything in life, you’ve got to control what you can, and that is my attitude and my effort and our team’s attitude and effort. That’s true every season. Today’s no different than a year ago or two years ago going into Game two in my mind. Everybody’s locked in, everybody’s working hard and everybody’s confident we’re going to have a good ballgame.”
How do you keep from focusing on the big picture job of getting the program turned around but having to get ready for a tough opponent?
“You answered your own question. You just go to work every day. What can I do today that’s going to help us in Game 9, not much other than getting better at fundamentals, get better at tackling and those kinds of things, and that’s going to help me on Saturday. The goal is to get ready for South Carolina and that’s what we’re going.”
With all the fan forums and blogs and Internet coverage, how do you filter out the noise?
“Well, just what I’ve been saying all along: We get in our meetings, we focus on our jobs, we practice, we compete well, we use the type of energy it takes to have a good day. We can control certain things and that’s what we focus on. And that’s when you’re winning, too, and you’ve got people saying how great you are. You’ve got to be insulated from that, too. If anybody gets to involved in anything that’s swirling around good or bad it doesn’t help you win. So I think you’ve got to manage that.”
Do you address it with the team?
“We don’t talk about it, quite franlkly. We’;e going to work. It’s Game Two, it’s Game One in league play. I don’t see what the issue is as far as any kind of reality,. I don’t even know what’s swirling around. Everybody says there’s stuff swirling around. I usually find about it if my mom calls or I go to church and everybody says they’re praying extra hard for me. That’s when I know it’s out there.”
OK, that’s enough about that. Here’s what some of the SEC coach — including Richt — had to say about the eventual addition of Texas A&M to the SEC.
PRACTICE OBSERVATIONS
Real quickly, practice is ongoing. Georgia is in full pads for the second consecutive day. Very unusual. . . . Wide receiver Marlon Brown was wearing a green jersey. His left ankle was heavily wrapped but not sure if that’s the reason. . . . Nose guard Kwame Geathers, who suffered a neck injury (aka stinger) was nowhere to be found for the second straight day.”

Where is the redemption? We needed it this past Saturday and now Carolina will be a huge game to keep us in for any hopes of a good season and to maybe keep a coach? So many questions to the formula for a good team; but still the basic questions; why 31 years since a National Chapionship while the SEC dominates around us. Are we a pit stop for the NFL and all good players leave their Junior Year? Saturday will and should determine all key decisions for the future of UGA Football!

Reading about all of the heat Coach Richt is getting from fans and the media is getting disheartening.
Say what you will about the recent results of his teams, he is a good man, and he loves his players… certainly a lot more than some of the “fans” who booed the team on national television. Oh wait, *they were just booing Bobo*. Yeah right, I’m sure the players knew that.
It’s hard not to conclude that one of the problems at Georgia is coaching, but another problem at Georgia is the fans. We need to focus on cheering for the Dawgs and not booing them or Richt (or Bobo). That hurts the whole program, present and future.
My hope is that Richt and his staff can turn it around. And personally, my prayers are for a good man, his family, and his team who are feeling a lot of heat.
GO DAWGS!!!

For those calling for more patience, I ask, where have you been the last 3 seasons? Last Saturday was not a one-time radar blip, but a direct indication of a drastic 3-year downward slide. Our braintrust had 8 months to prepare and we played like it was the second part of a Liberty Bowl doubleheader. Nothing has changed in 8 months, so why would you think anything would change in 6 days against another very good opponent? Wake up a smell the coffee. We won’t turn this program around with Richt at the helm. Every day he remains is another day we have to endure as the laughing stock of the league.

Its not that we lost the game. Its the WAY we lost the game. Its the same way that we’ve been losing games for YEARS now. Not days. Not months. YEARS. You people act like we didn’t go 8-5 in 2009, didn’t go 6-7 in 2010, and didn’t just get schooled on what is essentially our home turf by a team from Idaho. I didn’t even know they played football in Idaho up until about 6 years ago the first time we played them. Yes, they are a top 5 team. Exactly what Sick and tired said. It’s NOT just one game people. Georgia has been very underwhelming since 2008. The record shows it, the stats show it. It’s not just angry Dawg fans and the writers here at the AJC that notice it either. National writers are talking about how disappointing Georgia is.
Loosing to Boise is acceptable considering they are a top 5 team. The WAY we lost is unacceptable. We had too much talent to look like the second most skilled team on the field. We had too much size to be dominated on the line of scrimmage. Boise adjusted at halftime and we didn’t. We were out-coached and that’s not debatable. The coaches are doing these kids a disservice by not coaching them up like they’re paid to do.

Pre-season rank 1 in 2008 and Knowshon/Stafford decide to do their own stuff…still finished 10-3. Most teams would kill for 10-3.
8-5 in 2009, yes we struggled but picked up the pieces towards the end and finished with a good win over A&M.
Last year was ugly…so many close games and 4th quarters we couldn’t close out. 11 years would take it’s toll on anyone! Even Spurrier said 12 years at Florida was enough…Everybody needs to take a deep breath and focus on 2011…we have a LONG season to go with plenty of opportunities.

BTW I find it interesting that it takes a crisis for UGA to scrimmage two days in a row. Of course CMR has told a couple of times in the past that he was going to scrimmage more, but that was just fodder for those “crazy” Dawg fans. He knows what in the hell he’s doing. Okay.

I love the Dogs but let’s be real honest about
this coaching staff. UGA has not recovered since
Alabama came in here in 2008 and kicked
us all of the field. We have pretty much sux since
then and I just think the game has passed our staff
by and they really don’t know what to do. Also our
recruiting has been very overrated as shown on the
field. Just goes to show you that most 4 and 5 star
guys which we have do not pan out. Im guessing we have
3 or 4 players on the field this weekend that would
start for Bama, UF, LSU or even SC…. We are going through
another rough time like the final few Goff years so Im
guessing a change will be coming after the TECH game.
In the mean time lets get behind the 2011 Team and see if
they can’t win 6 or 7 games maybe more starting this weekend…

And yeah I thought play ncalling was bad, the one area we clearly was better than Boisr was team speed yet we never utilized that against them. Toss sweeps, swing passes, slants, anything to get some open space for backs and receivers.

The last two posters-
Obviously reading comprehension fails you both. I am not a blind homer as I pretty much made that clear. If he goes he goes, but the season and team needs to let this play out.
If you guys had your way do you want him fired right now? Then who coaches the team? Bobo? Grantham?
Then what happens to the season and recruiting? You guys think this is just a game and real easy on the team, coaches and administration but it isn’t. Tough being a fan?
So stay on the blog and feel free to run down the coach and the program. You cannot have one without the other. You can not run down the coach and say its not about the players. It works both ways.
So support the team and the program let the McGarity make the call in due time. If that makes me a blind homer than so be it. You must be part of the Kool-Aid drinking fire CMR group then.

Mark Richt is one if the highest paid coaches in college football making over $3 million dollars a year. He is NOT above criticism. One game? Try a whole decade. Coach Richt is 2-8 against the Gators alone. And read this article to see just how badly he and his staff have squandered the NFL caliber talent that has come through the program over the years. If you can’t handle these facts, you can follow CMR to Mars Hill or Stony Brook next year. As Bill Parcells likes to say, “in the end, it’s all about the wins and losses.”. And by the way, that’s exactly what AD McGarity said yesterday.

Chip,
Do you feel this program has taken advantage of a SEC Title in 2002 and 2005? Are we “THAT” much better having won those?
Now in 2007 after taking two loses on the chin to USC and UT are we any better now than those 4 straight seasons of 8 wins with Jim Donnan?
At this point I have to say no and this staff is squarely to blame. I am not flip flopping, but have deiceided to take the blinders off. In to many games UGA has been manhandled on the OL/DL and out schemed as well. The recruiting the past 3 seasons seems to have been a flop. As a blogger mentioned how many 1st round picks do you see on the field? The talent is not there.
Chip, 1980 was along time ago. 2002 helped alot of wounds for the UGA Nation. We cannot go another 25 years or for that fact another 5. The time is now. When you couple that with the quick success of Meyers,Stoops and Carroll I think it is fair to question Richt and the direction of this program midway through year 7.
Can you be tough on this staff as a reporter and ask the tough questions for us?

The problem is, if no one questions the play calling, the conditioning, the recruiting, etc. nothing will change. Even with all the ruckus the past 3 seasons, Richt has only begrudgingly made a few changes that should have been made years before (Martinez) or were never made at all(Bobo). To top it off, we’ve started all of the recent seasons as if practice started 15 minutes before kickoff. I also have zero confidence that McGarity will do the right thing at the end of the season without extreme fan pressure. Without keeping the heat on the coaching staff we aren’t going to get to the place where we ALL want to be. That’s where I’m coming from. I’m not drinking anyone’s Kool-aid, I prefer sweet tea.

Dawg fans may be up in arms, but all this ‘it was just one game’ crap is bothersome. Dawg fans can take a loss, believe me – we’ve had our share. But getting whipped? AND showcasing the same weaknesses as last year? THAT’s what makes the hotseat so dang hot.
We’re not asking for the moon and stars (anymore), but improvement and relevancy are a MUST. Another opportunity on Saturday. Better be up for it.

The USC game is not a “must-win.” Richt is FINALLY done-for. I guess 2 losing seasons in a row is what he gets for winning 2 SEC Championships. He built our program up and he has destroyed it. Consider the next guy coming in like Obama coming in after Bush.

I see where you’re coming from. You’re taking the rational approach. College football in the SEC is not rational. It often takes “irrational” fans to push a program to its potential. Ex. Alabama. Shula was doing a decent job with the circumstances he inherited. The rational approach was to give him time, but Bama fans weren’t rational and they got Saban. In the past, UGA has shown a propensity to not make a change as long as the money was pouring in. It took a lot of heat to get rid of Goff and Donnan. UGA fans are raising the heat to send a message. Nobody truly believes that CMR will be fired before seasons end.
As for recruiting, that’s a moot point. If CMR gets canned at season’s end it will kill the recruiting class anyway. Actually, one can make an argument that publicly acknowledging CMR is gone at season’s end will help in recruiting. Every recruit will be watching to see who UGA is going to get. Knowing there is a new day at UGA. The new coach can hit the ground running.
Finally, I don’t think the heat hurts UGA’s season. If anything, it might spur them to accomplish something. Fear is a great motivator in small doses. If the negativity becomes overwhelming after 0-2, then they weren’t going to accomplish anything anyway. CMR needs motivation. Otherwise he would probably sleepwalk to another 7-6 or 6-7 season. He might anyway. I truly don’t think CMR has grasped the reality of his situation. Well, he might now. Anyway, he’s going to have to perform under the gun. He brought this on himself. Who knows, maybe the pressure will bring out the best in him. I hope so. But I’m not going to curtail my criticism when its warranted. This is NOT a 1 game situation.
P.S. I’ve pretty much vented 3+ years of frustration this week. So, I will be quieter from now on, but I reserve the right to call a spade a spade. If CMR can’t handle the heat then he’s in the wrong job.

“Today’s no different than a year ago or two years ago going into Game two in my mind.”
That statement is a little scary to me and kind of contradicts what he was saying before the season about how he was more excited and into it this year. Wouldn’t him supposedly being more excited and into it this year be different from a year ago or two years ago. I’ve always been a big fan and supporter of Richt but lately all I’m hearing is “blah, blah, blah, blah” and then we lose….again.

If I were Richt I’d answer that with:
1- We’ve won 96 games in 10 years guys, ok?
2- Since 1995, in 25 years, I’ve only had 1 losing season, little perspective might frame this thing up a little
3- If you look at the great coaches, Wooden and Jackson in BBall, Bear Bryant, they all have periods where for 2,3 4 year,s things went in the wrong direction.
4- It could be worse, Bear Bryant only won 1 game his 10th season, at least I won 6.
5- Fellas, compere me to Nick Saban his first 10 years, let me know who had the better win %, then get back to me
6- I’ve been coaching for 25 years, I think 20 of those we finished in the top 10, 23 of those in the top 25, and 16 in the top 5. Next.

It is really sad to see all this played out in the media. Our coach being being hounded about his job and spending time thinking about that instead of the obvious things he might fix.
Fans booing the players. A lot of them are freshmen (they played against a lot of fifth year seniors). How hard is it to concentrate on football knowing your fans do not support you? (BTW, I don’t know the answer). Yes, I think we were mislead about what to expect this year(although I’m not sure who did it) and I don’t like it. I was embarrassed by the performance during the Boise game. I think CMB could have done MUCH MUCH better. I’m tired of losing, I want the dawgs to have national respect and enjoy reading about them the day after a game. I want a NC really bad.
I think it is important for us to be able to vent to each other. It’s healthy.
But I just can’t see how anything directed at the coaches and players (especially the players) would help get those things.
When the season is over, or nearly over, and we aren’t happy with what we have, then is the time to raise a MIGHTY ruckus. But if I read McGarity right we won’t have to.

There is nothing sadder than Bulldog fans in denial. Yes, it was only one game against a possible BCS contender. That being said, for the past three years now, the Bulldogs, in many games, have had at least an equal amount of talent and often times the more talented team on paper but are, more times than not, either out-coached or the team self destructs via horrible tackling or through an avalanche of just plain silly penalties.
It’s not unusual that once a person is set for life financially like Mark Richt is that they lose the motivation that drove them before they were “proven”. Mark Richt is an excellent recruiter who holds his own with anyone in that department, however, as a coach, he just doesn’t have it anymore. Whatever “it” is.
It is time for AD Greg McGarity to think outside of the box and make a new position for Mark Richt as Recruiting Guru Deluxe or, if you prefer, Director of Recruiting and then relieve Richt of his coaching duties and find a coach who can actually get the most out of the four and five star recruits that Mark Richt brings in to UGA.

We play 8 unranked teams in the next 11 games. We’ll win those 8 games. Win the Bowl game and that’s 9-4, a 50% improvement over 6-7.
We play 3 more ranked teams, SC, MSU, Florida. Even if we lose all 3, which I doubt, we’ll still finish 8-5 (33% improvement) or 9-4 (50% inprovement).
So, this 1 game means nothing in th big picture as far as getting a lot more wins goes (33-50% more wins).

We just need to let the season play out. This team hasn’t even had a chance to play an SEC game yet. Playing an OOC team as opposed to an annual rival doesn’t give us a true idea of what this team can do. I remember last year that LSU fans were ready to run Les Miles out of town after the Tennessee game. The next week he beat Florida on a lucky bounce and everything turned around from there. He was literally a one inch bounce of the ball from getting fired. This week they are calling him one of the best coaches in the country. The point is, we as fans don’t know how close this team is to turning the corner, hopefully it will happen this weekend. Either way he isn’t going anywhere until after the season ends anyway so we should all be supportive of the team and players until that time comes.

Why this game IS a MUST WIN:
-Finally get a win after humiliating losses to end last season and start this year’s.
-SC, divisional rival we used to own, now has risen above UGA.
-Fan base moral (see first point)
-Only way for Richt to get critics to shut the hell up
-Steve Spurrier, ’nuff said
-When was the last time UGA won a big game – a game it had to have?
-Recruiting, although what difference does that seem to make?
-UGA has to make a statement that they are relevant in the SEC/East
I’m sure there are others, but this is a good start. If this game is not a must win, then it just doesn’t exist. I’m actually a Richt supporter and don’t think he should be fired. I do think he needs to get a new coaching staff or it will be his demise.

No true fan boos coaches or players. The “fans” that did that on Saturday are a disgrace to UGA football. Fair weather, short-term minded, fans are not needed. You may think you’re boos are targeted at Richt and staff, but it’s the players and future players that hear that crap and you end up making that much harder for the program regardless of who will be coaching beyond this year. The “we’re behind you only as long as you’re winning” BS is a heckuva way to support the team. Send a message, absolutely, but do it by staying home or withholding your money. Booing college kids, especially your own team, is completely out of line when an empty seat sends a far more effective message. There are myriad ways to express your dissatisfaction without the ugliness of raining boos down on the players.

Boise’s RB had 24 carries for 57 yds
Boise was 4-12 on 1st downs, 0-5 in the 1st half
UGA was 2-13 on 3rd down so there was too many 3 and outs
Moore was good and accurate on short passes with absolutly no pressure and Im almost certain he didnt complete a pass over 20 yds
Moore was pressured one time and he threw an interception
My point
We were outcoached
Face AL or LSU’s defense and have those stats and your not winning

I suspect that Spurrier would really hate that.
Anyway on to most important things, the NG is still missing practice reps? WIll he even play on Saturday? So what does UGA do now? Down to a 205 lb walk-on at MLB and one NG, Jenkins who was certainly not ready for a full 60 mins last Saturday, certainly does not bode well with the Lattimore kid coming to town? JB, very funny. You are the creative mind of the night. Prozac, here is the deal. Lots of new players from the “dream team” recruits. Several new coaches. In many ways, Richt is like hiring a new coach with the new coaches, new players. They will give him time to make the change. Think sensibly all. Richt for most of his time at UGA has a great record. Last three years not so good. 8 out of 11 years, great record and championships. You don’t fire a coach like CMR. He gets to restart, which is what he is doing. AD has given him 3 years to right the ship. That he will do. Regardless of what happens on Saturday you will see a constantly improving team by years end. The haters have no knowledge of college football and all it takes to win as consistently as CMR has at UGA. He will go down in history as the greatest coach in UGA history–better than Dooley. JB not new to UGA football. I am 49 years a fan. I have followed UGA for a long time. Used to be a season ticket guy til prices got out of my range. Richt is the best coach we have had in my lifetime. No question about it. Almost 100 wins in 11 seasons, wow! 2 SEC championships. Top ten many of his years. The older I get the more I have a long view of things. Bring in a new coach and often there is some quick turn around but soon the new wears off, some key losses occur, and he is not so great anymore. Builders think about the future beyond 3-5-10 plus years. Richt is a long-time builder. AD knows it, Adams knows it. I have been disappointed over the years from time to time but never considered booing either a coach or a player like the “non-fans” from Saturday and the vitrolic haters on the AJC blogs. No one can predict the future, but I’m about as sure as I can be that CMR will not turn it around. This was not just a loss to a top 5 team. This showed that CMR hasn’t learned a thing or isn’t capable of instituting change. I understand it often takes time to turn a team around, but I saw ZERO progress toward that last Saturday, after 8 months to get ready. Instead, I saw the EXACT same thing I’ve been seeing for 3 years. There should have been some improvement. I will allow that I saw some improvement in the play of the defense, but that was nullified by Grantham’s complete inability to adjust to what Boise was doing.
My only hope is that Bobo’s comments today were a ruse and UGA comes out like a house afire and knocks SC back on their heels. SC might collapse. I don’t think SC matches Boise in the poise category. Two scrimmages in a row is encouraging. We’ll see.

It was the same game plan we’ve seen and failed abysmally, as it has in the past. We were looking for improvement, there was none. We are a family, divided, but we are all tired of business as usual. Some of us have just seen the reality of where we are, where we’re going and want a change. I wanted Richt gone last year, I didn’t get my way, I have tried to support him but reread the first three lines plus of this post, I just can’t any longer until things change, I don’t think they will. Regards Lowcountry. We feel your pain, you’re a good, loyal Dawg.

JB, not very funny. You are the non-creative mind of the night. Prozac, here isn’t the deal. Lots of old players from the “dream team” recruits. Several oldw coaches. In many ways, Richt is like hiring a old coach with the new coaches, old players. They will not give him time to make the change. Think sensibly all. Richt for most of his time at UGA has a bad record. Last three years was good. 8 out of 11 years, bad record and no championships. You don’t not fire a coach like CMR. He gets to restart, which is what he isn’t doing. AD has given him 3 years to sink the ship. That he will do. Regardless of what happens on Saturday you will see a constantly worse team by years end. The haters have no knowledge of college football and all it takes to lose as consistently as CMR has at UGA. He will go down in history as the worst coach in UGA history–worse than Dooley. I love Dooley but CMR is a much worse coach.

If you’re happy with the product on the field then donate your tickets to a Boys & Girls Club and just stay home and watch a goat. Then maybe you won’t become so smart as to cheer 19yr olds. You may think you’re cheers are targeted at Richt and staff, but it’s the players and future players that hear that crap and you end up making that much harder for the program regardless of who will be coaching beyond this year. The “we’re behind you only as long as you’re winning” BS is a heckuva way to support the team. Send a message, absolutely, but do it by sending your money. Booing college kids, especially your own team, is completely in line when an empty seat sends a less effective message. There are myriad ways to conceal your dissatisfaction without the ugliness of raining cheers down on the players.

The rednecks are restless. We all want to win, but right now we want UGA to win this Saturday. Say what you want, but the team is our TEAM. Pull for them to do the best that they can do. If CMR is going to make it let him make it. Do you fools want to fire him in the middle of the 2nd qtr of some game. How many times have we been ready to fire a coach. Dooley was on the hot seat in 74 the in 77 after losing the MNC to Pitt he lost to Wafe Forest. Do you fools remember that. How about 79, they got stomped by our real rivals. Let the year unfold. If CMR needs to leave, then he will be leaving, if he has it turned around, then it will be done. Were you guys mad when Clemson but UGA in 1981, well they won the MNC. Think about it, Clemson won the MNC over Nebraska. If CMR is to be sent away, it will all go back to this. He didn’t free Willie soon enough, and he didn’t hire a real Off coordinator. That is it! I’ve about had enough of the excuses for some of these players and their “injuries”.
A bad ankle now for Brown? Really?
Kwame Geathers is a 6′6″, 350 lb cry-baby who can’t play one whole game without coming out of the game with another ailment of sorts.
Gates practiced the spring and all of fall camp with no problems whatsoever…but now when this team needs him the most he all of sudden can’t play because he’s “hurt”.
Ogletree is the only player on the team with any excuse BECAUSE HE HAS A BROKEN FOOT, and he would still go in and play if they would let him.
The rest of these whiners need to take notes.
I’m sick of it and fed up with the whole green jersey wearing lot of them.

You are correct and I too am a long time Dawg fan and follower. Most people here on this blog all have the mentality of “what have you done for me lately”. Most were not around when we suffered through the bad Dooley years, or even the Goff years. Most forget before Richt got here it had been TWENTY years since we won an SEC title. They think this 3year slide is an eternity. I too am disappointed by the start after hearing of all the changes, however; lets give this season a little more time. To boo the home team really makes us look a lot like the haters are here say we are and that’s really sad.

(1) Ralph is really Richt. Suprised he would hang out on these boards.
(2) I can’t get the vision of our winded, out-of-shape defense out of my mind. WTF? I’m over 40 and Cardio Insanity has me lookin’ 20 and in the best shape of my life…I could really run cricles around those guys…seriously, too much strength training and not enough cardio conditioning. Did they prepare for the season??? Talk about insanity…
(3) Boise St’s performance did provide quite a bit of motivation and confidence for my sons. I live in Florida and at one point well into the arse-whoopin’ I told my boys (who happen to be caucasion), “see, you guys can not only compete with, but exceed the speed and athleticism of the African-American athletes at school, just look at what this Boise St team of white boys is doing to our Georgia Dawgs.” And they got to see the same thing when BYU beat Ole Miss. Hey, it’s the silver lining…

…and, the Dooley comparisons are not as good as people think. I often wonder how many national titles we would have won if Dooley would have been fired in ‘72. With him, we won one, when we should have won about 7 (’75, ‘76, ‘80, ‘81, ‘82, ‘83, ‘88). This is where we are at now with Richt. It’s like 1972 all over. Do we keep a nice coach that may win us one title in 25 years in the distant future if all the stars align and a Herschel comes in that no coach could screw up? Or do we fire him and get a coach that will win multiple titles with the rich High School talent the state has? In other words, do we want the nice man to win us one title in a quarter century, or the hard a$$ that will win us 4 titles in 12 years? I honestly think these Richtofiles would rather have the former. It’s sad because we are capable of so much more.

Richt really isn’t that much better than what we had before him. Donnan lost 3.8 games a year, Richt loses 3.5 games a year (not counting this year which will bring his average up past Donnan’s). All the wins he has is inflated by comparison because we play more games now. We pick up one Tennessee Tech per year that Donnan didn’t have. Georgia is capable of winning titleS with an S.

Rusty,
After the season will be too late in my humble opinion to make the needed change in coaching staffs.
We continue to be beaten by teams with inferior athletes, Colorado, Central Florida, Kentucky, Boise State, AR, Mississsipi State. We might rise up and win a big game this season, but we can no longer compete with FL, Mississipi State, Auburn, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas and South Carolina. They have all passed us by. We are back to mid 90’s Georgia football, the Goff Era. We are basically competing with KY for 8th or 9th best in the SEC.
I think Richt is a fantastic person, but we haven’t played a complete game against a decent team since Auburn in 2007. The longer we wait, the deeper our demise and the longer and harder it will be to come out of it.

3 penalties on the opening drive? 60% of the plays were sprint draws up the middle. The change needs to be made on Tuesday win or lose against South Carolina to an interim coach. Delaying the inevitable won’t help turn the program around from its current abysmal state.
Name me one coach in the modern era that turned things around once their seat was this hot. Scheduling the Boise game was a fate sealer. Short of tearing off 5-6 wins… nothing can save him.

People used to play both ways (and not in an air-conditioned dome) w/o being that tired! Those Idaho tater-fed boys overpowered UGA so badly and were in so much better shape (apparantly) that we gotta go back to square one! Start where the game starts, both offensively AND defensively UP FRONT!!!!!! All the play calling comments, defensive schemes, etc. are all for naught ’till we get the studs up front!!

Boise State was the better team with a lot of 5th year seniors on their lines with experience. Georgia had two key players out that could have helped. I am a Georgia fan who lives out west and understand fully that Boise State is a power-house football team.
Even though Georgia lost I’m glad they played a top 5 team and didn’t start this year against cream puffs as some of the SEC teams did. I believe that this team is a solid football team and I’m really happy they played hard and didn’t make a ton of mistakes to lose the game , as they did last year.
As far as Coach Richt is concerned I believe the heat goes with the territory and although some fans are downright rude the majority of fans are taking it one game at a time. I would love to see this program turned around quickly during the current year and under this coaching staff.
I must believe that Georgia would be better served if Coach Richt called the plays and returned Coach Bobo to assist Coach Gardner who has not been successful with the O-line and Qb’s.
I am a concerned fan and yes I do remember how long it took Coach Dooley to get things going at Georgia but once he had it going-it was awesome and fun too watch. Maybe Coach Richt should consider speaking with Coach Dooley or Coach Bowden and ask for their observation of the program and what they may add or take away from the current system. The talent is there and it just needs time.
One game at a time, until this train get’s moving at full speed and on all cylinders. Once that happens it’s going to be fun too watch!!
Go Georgia! Coach and staff you have my prayers and belief it will be up-righted and moving in the right direction quicker than many fans can imagine.

Great observation, Jerry, and I wish CMR the best likewise, but other than our center, the talent level up front is not there…..if they max out they won’t be what B.States guys were as 5th year seniors. Whether Bobo or Forest Gump calls the plays we have let our up-front talent level go way down. Our grading/observation system for the line is currently flawed to say the least. You ain’t gonna win SEC football w/o the line….period. We’ll pull out some games, and maybe improve. However, S.C. is fixin’ to teach our line a more bitter lesson than they learned against B.State; the lesson will be that you can’t call a good game (Bobo) if the up-front guys ain’t up to snuff!!!!!!

“I think Richt is a fantastic person, but we haven’t played a complete game against a decent team since Auburn in 2007.”
Auburn 2007 ended up # 15 in the AP Poll. There were a 4-Loss team, who played cupcakes. They were beat by South Florida & Missy State. I am sorry but it has been a lot longer than Auburn 2007 since we played a complete game against really decent team, I-DOG. I know you said decent team, but I am sorry the loss to South Florida, and Auburn was taking it on the chin, 2007. They played, as you recall, a cupcake schedule 2007 full of powderpuff football teams. And, Missy State was not powerhouse Auburn lost to in 2007 too.
I submit, instead, that it has been since beating Auburn 2006 (maybe you meant to say that) since Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” have beat a great team. In 2006, Auburn ended up # 9 in the AP Poll. That’s good. The only problem with that win, however, is that in 2006, Mark Richt ended up the # 5 team in The SEC in the polls because we LOST to 4 teams in 2006, including such horrid losses as losing to a Vandie team who won only 4 games 2006, but they too beat us 2006 (included in their 4-win season.)
I actually go a lot further than that I-DOG. I have said for now the 6th season in a row on these forums that Mark Richt’s “coaching staff” has only beat 3 teams who ended the season in the AP Poll Top 10 – the truly good teams. In 13 games, lost 10, won 3. Of the 3 years we won : 2006 over # 9 Auburn we lost 4 games and ended up the # 5 team in The SEC in the polls, 2005 over # 6 LSU we ended up the # 3 team in The SEC in the poll and lost 3 games, and 2001 we knocked the lid off according to Mark Richt the # 11 all-time college football program in 1-A wins by beating # 4 vols but ended that season again the # 5 team in The SEC in the polls with again 4 losses. All the other 10 games vs teams who ended that season in the AP Poll Top 10, Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” lost. We have NOT beat the top teams. We have lost 16 games in 11 years to-date to teams who would not have finished in the AP Poll Top 25 without their win over us and 10 of those 16 did not still even with their win over us.
We don’t beat the great teams.
We lose to the really sorry teams.
We have done this the entire 11 years.

WHY WON’T RICHT ANSWER THE QUESTION, COULD IT BE HE IS ALL OUT OF ANSWERS, YOU BE THE JUDGE, EACH SENTENCE ALONE.
QUESTION DOES THIS ANSWER THE QUESTION
1) What are you doing to insulate your team from crictism? NO
2) You guys want to make things bigger than they are. NO
3) The bottom line is like anything in life, you’ve got to control what you can, and that is my attitude and my effort and our team’s attitude and effort.
4) That’s true every season. Today’s no different than a year ago or two years ago going into Game two in my mind. NO
5) Game two in my mind. Everybody’s locked in, everybody’s working hard and everybody’s confident we’re going to have a good ballgame.” NO

Boise was rated #5 in the country! Georgia doesn’t have their talent—it’s not fair to criticize the Ga coaches for not winning that game. Boise is a lot better and has better players—not much Ga could do against a high quality team like that. SC is not nearly as good as boise and Ga can beat them.

With all the fan forums and blogs and Internet coverage, how do you filter out the noise?
1)“Well, just what I’ve been saying all along: We get in our meetings, we focus on our jobs, we practice, we compete well, we use the type of energy it takes to have a good day NO
2) We can control certain things and that’s what we focus on. And that’s when you’re winning, too, and you’ve got people saying how great you are. NO
3) You’ve got to be insulated from that, too. If anybody gets to involved in anything that’s swirling around good or bad it doesn’t help you win. So I think you’ve got to manage that.” NO
THE REPORTER WAS TRYING TO HELP RICHT UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEM——-IT NEVER DAWNED ON RICHT TO SAY HE CLOSED PRACTICE, FOR THEM TO STAY OFF SPORTS BLOGS, TURN OFF THEIR FACE BOOK AND TWEETER.

LAST ONE
Do you address it with the team?
1) “We don’t talk about it, quite franlkly. NO GEEEZZ COACH, YOU DIDN’T TELL BOYKIN TO APPOLOGIZE TO COACH PETERSON FOR BE SO DISRESPECTFUL AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY THEIR IS NO DISCIPLINE ON THIS TEAM. EVEN AARON MURRAY NEEDED A REPREMAND, HE TWEETED BEFORE THE GAME, “WHERE AT THE GEORGIA DOME, IT’S TIME. WE ARE GOING TO KICK SOME A$$”
2) I don’t see what the issue is as far as any kind of reality,. I don’t even know what’s swirling around. NO
CLUELESS RICHT DOES NOT EVEN KNOW HIS JOB IS ON THE LINE THIS YEAR—-THE PLAYERS KNOW
3) Everybody says there’s stuff swirling around. I usually find about it if my mom calls or I go to church and everybody says they’re praying extra hard for me. That’s when I know it’s out there.” NO
I REALLY DO THINK HE IS RIGHT, HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT’S GOING AND FOR SURE HE DOESN’T KNOW HOW TO FIX IT. BUT MARK RICHT IS A NICE MAN AND A ROLE MODEL, JUST NOT MUCH OF A COACH.
AFTER HE IS FIRED, I DON’T THINK YOU WILL SEE RICHT AS THE HEAD COACH ANYWHERE, MAYBE AN OFFENSIVE COODINATOR OR QB COACH.

I’ve been saying for years that Rodney Garner needs to be replaced. The overall team make-up is screwed up. We don’t have a good balance of brains, brawn and speed. You can’t win with speed, alone. We desperately need players like David Pollack, Terry Hoage, Kirby Smart, Will Muschamp, Richard Tardits etc. on our D. Guys that can calm down the athletes and keep their heads in the game when things start going bad.

“I think Richt is a fantastic person, but we haven’t played a complete game against a decent team since Auburn in 2007.”
Auburn 2007 ended up # 15 in the AP Poll. They were a 4-Loss team, who played cupcakes. They were beat by South Florida & Missy State – neither of whom was worth a crud 2007. I am sorry but it has been a lot longer than Auburn 2007 since we played a complete game against really decent team, I-DOG. I know you said decent team, but I am sorry the loss to South Florida, and Auburn was taking it on the chin, 2007 Auburn; so, I don’t consider Auburn then worth a hoot 2007 and neither does anyone else. Auburn played, as you recall, a cupcake schedule 2007 full of powder-puff football teams. Auburn is criticized for this schedule and docked for this schedule. And, Missy State was not powerhouse Auburn lost to in 2007 too, along with a below average South Florida obviously, both of whom beat Auburn 2007.
In 13 games vs teams who actually ended in the Top 10 (not ranked # 9 week 2 when we beat them and then ended unranked), – in 13 games vs teams finishing in the Top 10 AP Poll Mark Richt has lost 10, won 3. Of the 3 years we won : 2006 over # 9 Auburn we lost 4 games and ended up the # 5 team in The SEC in the polls, 2005 over # 6 LSU we ended up the # 3 team in The SEC in the poll and lost 3 games, and 2001 we knocked the lid off according to Mark Richt of the # 11 all-time college football program in 1-A wins by beating # 4 vols but ended that season again the # 5 team in The SEC in the polls with again 4 losses. All the other 10 games vs teams who ended that season in the AP Poll Top 10, Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” lost. We have NOT beat the top teams. We have lost 16 games in 11 years to-date to teams who would not have finished in the AP Poll Top 25 without their win over us and 10 of those 16 did not still even with their win over us end up in the AP Poll Top 25.
We don’t beat the great teams.
We lose to the really sorry teams.
We have done this the entire 11 years.
We have NO HOPE of fixing this. Mark Richt is a bold-faced liar that he is the # 4 best college football coach in all of America. Hogwash. Drink the Kool-Aid. Watch. Study the results. BS And, by the way, I am fed up with it, and I am the orIginal poster who has called the RICHT-0-FILES the DISNEYdawgs.com all this Summer, all last Summer, all the Summer before that, all the Summer before that, all the Summer before that and all the Summer before that,

“One damn game and you would think we are talking about a 2-10 coached team. Pathetic is the way Dawg Nation has turned on the staff and now the media is fueling the fire. I will support this team 100% all season and then let th eguys who get paid to make those decisions make whatever they deem necessary. Until then I support Mark Richt and this staff. Some of you need a reality check of what it means to be a Bulldog supporter.”
Please oh great and wondrous one
Lowcountry Bulldawg,
Share with us all what it means to be a Bulldog support ? Does it mean posting as you just did, sir, that you think at the end of the season they guys who make these decisions, should sit down according to you right here in this post, and make that decision ?
What does that sound like ?
Like you are WIMP of the highest order. A Kool-Aid drinker. A DISNEYdawgs.com but hey you think they need to be sat down and make the decision too at the end of the season. My heavens, what is the difference in that and the other 83 percent of ALL UGA fans that we have NO HOPE of beating South Carolina, either, the day after tomorrow ?
Other than we should do as you SAY and not as you DEMONSTRATE once again in THIS POST, right here

ya marlon was limping after his 2nd catch during the ballgame on SAT. I wondered this week if he would be up to playing but it looks unlikely.. we need a big guy to throw to in the redzone

May the force be with you all. UGA will see the second coming before they’ll beat South Carolina on Saturday. UGA hasn’t gotten close to the NC and continues it’s slide towards Kentucky, Vandy and Ole Miss as regular bottoms of the SEC football heap.

castigate or castrate – 1 or the other, either is fine with me (although I don’t think any of the witless coaching staff have a pair to castrate) – let’s stick with castigate. Anyone have any coals we can drag them over ?

Love all the comments, good and bad. I’m a true fan, and will stick with the Dogs no matter what. I just HATE to see UGA with an inferior line which has NOT been addressed! We have too good a program to mis-judge talent the way we have. PLEASE GET US SOME HOSSES UP FRONT and all the coaches will suddenly look like geniuses!

Those calling for Richt to start play calling again obviously don’t remember how poorly he managed the clock when he had that responsibility. I remember several games that time ran out simply because Richt let it. BoBo must go, but can’t the Dawgs get someone as credible as Charlie Weis? There must be some ex-Dawg offensive player more creative than these jokes…

Hope all you UGA fans realize you got whooopd by a team with one, count em one, 4 Star recruit on the roster ( according to Rivals ) What does that say about Richt, Bobo, Grantham, Garner etc. ? Pathetic
