SEC coaches discuss addition of Texas A&M

Comments from SEC coaches about the possible addition of Texas A&M to the SEC:

Georgia’s Mark Richt: “I’m just going to stay away from commenting on anything as far as expansion right now until all the dust settles and I have a better idea of what’s going on. I’ll say this: It looks like change is coming. … But for me as a coach, my effort and energy has to be focused on preparation and this [South Carolina] game and that’s what we’re doing. The truth of the matter is I don’t know and for me to make some kind of comment would be premature. I’ve got an AD as a boss and a president and a commissioner and I don’t think anybody needs my comments on expansion right now.”

Florida’s Will Muschamp: “Whatever Dr. [Bernie] Machen and our administraion decide I’ll support. But Texas A&M has a great tradition and is an outstanding program. I really think we’re headed to the 16-team leagues. Eventually I think there will be four of them at some point if you ask me personally. But whatever our conference decides I’m fine. I don’t know how it will work. Honestly I haven’t put any thought into it at all. But I do think that’s where it will go eventually. I think there’s the haves and have-nots essentially.”

South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier: “It may open up the door for LSU, Arkansas, the Mississippi schools and so forth [to recruit in Texas]. I don’t think it will have any impact with us. We’re trying to recruit our state and the border states. That’s about where we are. Every now and then we’ll go up into New Jersey and the Philadephia area. But the TV markets and all that if A&M comes in, which looks like is going to happen, that’s fine with all of us. We don’t make those decisions. That just adds a big-time college program, Texas A&M, to the SEC. And I think that’s fine with all of us coaches.”

LSU’s Les Miles: “I’m kind of caught because I coached in the Big Eight conference and I coached in the Big 12 conference and I have historic respect for that tremendous conference and the traditions of those teams. So as happy as I am to realize that there will be a greater, plainer view of Texas, I’m saddened in some respect that the old Big Eight-Big 12 is kind of fragile right now. I don’t understand it I guess is what I’m saying. I think it would make great sense, great rationale, that the SEC, the view that A&M  would give it and the schools in close proximity, obviously they’re going to come to Texas to play and it’s obvious that the view now will be the SEC.  Texas football is great high school football, very talented high school players. I thing there will be a strong view of the strongest football conference and a competitive view of the choices the Texas players have to make and I thnk they’ll be looking at what conference is the best  they can play in and which is closest to my home and what’s the travel distance that my parents would have to go to see me play. I would think the SEC would be preferred to West Coast travel or whatever the other choices would be.”

Thanks BIG MAN. We gave up looking at body language. The uniforms couldn’t win it for them. Blocking and tackling had to. I don’t care who Auburn was playing. You’ve missed my point. THEY DID NOT GIVE UP.

I was in section 114, until the clock was at 0:00….where were you? Quit with two quarters left? Not the players, maybe the coaches….I saw Orson eating up yards and Mitchell blowing by the boise corner.

No reason for Mark to comment….if he doesn’t win the game this week he won’t be coaching in a conference with A&M…this will be it.

Hmmm…. I don’t see how this would help any of the schools in the east. The west on the other hand should see a significant jump in talent base. Ole Miss should be particularly thrilled with this.

I would move Samuels back to LB ASAP. However CMR gave some bs excuse as to why not. Boo Malcolm must have really made someone mad because he gets no love at all from the UGA staff. He probably is the best rb by the way… Probably will be All-Pro in the NFL.

Mark in Atl………I don’t know if losing to SC Saturday will cost Mark his job, but it will the rest of the WINNABLE 10 games left a pressure cooker. The man could go 10-2 and a lot would be forgotten and forgiven…. But lose 2 or 3 winnable games the balance of the year could find it tough sailing.

Yes, it was embarrassing last Saturday. However, I said it before the game that Boise is going to be a great team this year because of all the 5th year SR’s they have.
What I’m waiting for is to see what changes in game plan and attitude in the 2nd half of the SC game are made before I make any opinions about the season.
Love the tech people on here throwing their 2 cents in at CMR. They should want him to go being that he is 9-1 against them.
About the article, SEC should strongly go after Oklahoma!

With all due respect to those using Boise @#5 in the polls as our excuse for losing…this is GEORGIA! We have a $90M football budget, sell-out a 90,000 stadium, consistent top 10 recruiting classes in one of the best recruiting areas, tradition, world-class facilities, and a $3M a year head coach. We should never lose to a Boise State, especially in our home state. Quit drinking the kool-aide from 2001-2006…it’s the head coach stupid. And Boo Malcombe is a wasted scholarship that the coaches won’t/can’t admit. Just my opinion.

You Dawgs are in for a long, sad season. Your coach has quit believing in UGA. He is going to ride it out as long as he can and move on. Georgia will have to get a new coach on the fly. When the serious search for a replacement begins, all top caliber candidates will notice how rabid Georgia fans are and say “NO THANK YOU”. You’ll end up with another Ray Goff for 4 or 5 years then start the same stuff you are doing now all over again. You could possibly get Donnan back, it would be a good fit…all over again. I heard he’s been waiting his whole life to coach a team like this…

It looks like there will be 4 – 16 team conferences in the future, and I think TAM would be a good addition to the SEC. They have their ups and downs, but I think they would be able to compete with the top teams in the conference in their up years. In addition, they are now competing for players with UT in the same conference, and that is a long-time losing proposition. UT just has resources that TAM cannot match, but in the SEC, that becomes less of a factor. If I was the SEC, I might even try and add another TX team like Texas Tech for my 14th team — and then OK and OKST as my 15th and 16th. That way you could truly set up a western conference and separate Aub and Alabama. Could you imagine the excitement of them playing for the SEC title?

As a Tech fan, I do hope that the ACC will claim the 4th “super conference” title. I see at some point the Big Ten, Pac 12, SEC, and one other conference making the rest of the schools obsolete in the national champ race.

JB, seriously, you guys need to find another bandwagon to jump on. What do you think you’re accomplishing by spewing this negative crap every single day? You act as if you pay CMR’s salary all by yourself. True fans will get out there and show these young men some support. No matter what the situation is. None of us want to see the Dawgs go down, however its not in your hands or mine to decide what CMR’s future at UGA will be. So do us real fans and the players who may read these comments a favor a STFU or move on. You sound like a whiney little girl. Last time I checked we’re not the only team to have lost to BS recently.

Jborodawg

‘VA Dawg’ and ‘get over it’, I agree with you. BS was afterall the pretty much consensus #5 team in the country…and we’re playing a LB and a TE in the backfield. And, Tree was injured … and…well, just too many freshmen and walk-ons on the field.

I have to say, I was quite disappointed in the O line: not protecting and no running game. Perhaps Murray just wasn’t on his game…held the ball too long, couldn’t find the open receiver, etc. Were the receivers getting open? Watching on TV you can’t tell.

The D just gave up too many big plays. Held em here and there, but overall they didn’t look good. Is it the 3-4…scheme…or coaching?

The O didn’t look prepared; just didn’t click. I guess one could blame the coaches. I dunno about putting all the blame on CMB…the O line didn’t block…we’re supposed to be able to run the ball up the middle with this highly rated O line. Gotta run the ball…and stop the run. And, yes, ya gotta keep trying to run it.

“The players quit…” That’s bs. The effort was there; fundamentals wasn’t.

I still like CMR and really hope he can pull it out. However, I’m afraid his lack of discipline and loyalty to assistants are gonna get him canned. I own a business, sometimes I discipline and sometimes I fire them. It’s not fun but if an employee is affecting my ability to have a few nice things, send my kids to college, or buy myself a toy occasionally they got to go!! I can think of about 3million reasons CMR needs to learn to feel as I do.

where’d the 2 morons dolla bill and BUZZ go. TECH hasn’t been relevant since 1955. They shared a cheap National Championship in 1990 that was a fluke. How is it the fan base’s fault that CMR has the program headed down the tubes? We still contribute. Still buy tickets (Tech had to reinstitute it’s 3 pack this week to sell tickets against marquee programs like Va Tech), and still show up. And the team despite the lousy play the past few years still usually handles Tech especially when we come to Atlanta when Tech is rated.
