SEC coaches discuss addition of Texas A&M

Comments from SEC coaches about the possible addition of Texas A&M to the SEC:

Georgia’s Mark Richt: “I’m just going to stay away from commenting on anything as far as expansion right now until all the dust settles and I have a better idea of what’s going on. I’ll say this: It looks like change is coming. … But for me as a coach, my effort and energy has to be focused on preparation and this [South Carolina] game and that’s what we’re doing. The truth of the matter is I don’t know and for me to make some kind of comment would be premature. I’ve got an AD as a boss and a president and a commissioner and I don’t think anybody needs my comments on expansion right now.”

Florida’s Will Muschamp: “Whatever Dr. [Bernie] Machen and our administraion decide I’ll support. But Texas A&M has a great tradition and is an outstanding program. I really think we’re headed to the 16-team leagues. Eventually I think there will be four of them at some point if you ask me personally. But whatever our conference decides I’m fine. I don’t know how it will work. Honestly I haven’t put any thought into it at all. But I do think that’s where it will go eventually. I think there’s the haves and have-nots essentially.”

South Carolina’s Steve Spurrier: “It may open up the door for LSU, Arkansas, the Mississippi schools and so forth [to recruit in Texas]. I don’t think it will have any impact with us. We’re trying to recruit our state and the border states. That’s about where we are. Every now and then we’ll go up into New Jersey and the Philadephia area. But the TV markets and all that if A&M comes in, which looks like is going to happen, that’s fine with all of us. We don’t make those decisions. That just adds a big-time college program, Texas A&M, to the SEC. And I think that’s fine with all of us coaches.”

LSU’s Les Miles: “I’m kind of caught because I coached in the Big Eight conference and I coached in the Big 12 conference and I have historic respect for that tremendous conference and the traditions of those teams. So as happy as I am to realize that there will be a greater, plainer view of Texas, I’m saddened in some respect that the old Big Eight-Big 12 is kind of fragile right now. I don’t understand it I guess is what I’m saying. I think it would make great sense, great rationale, that the SEC, the view that A&M  would give it and the schools in close proximity, obviously they’re going to come to Texas to play and it’s obvious that the view now will be the SEC.  Texas football is great high school football, very talented high school players. I thing there will be a strong view of the strongest football conference and a competitive view of the choices the Texas players have to make and I thnk they’ll be looking at what conference is the best  they can play in and which is closest to my home and what’s the travel distance that my parents would have to go to see me play. I would think the SEC would be preferred to West Coast travel or whatever the other choices would be.”

Coach Richt

“It looks like change is coming.”

Yes it is

You coaching UNC next year if you don’t tell Bobo to go coach the QB’s on footwork and you go back to calling your own plays.

Richt needs to start calling the plays. He was a mastermind at FSU at calling plays and helped Charlie Ward win the Heisman Trophy. Bobo has helped have 2 top 5 draft picks over the past 3 years so he might know what he’s doing but goodness our plays are boring.

Forget the offense.

The defense has to stop giving up over 30 a points game !

all of you ripping CMR do me a favor get a team any team and you get them ready to play. WE LOST TO THE NUMBER 4 TEAM, we looked bad doing it. We have stuggled now for a a season and a half. But i do believe CMR can turn this around. Sometimes 1 great win can catapult a team to great things. Beat USC sat. and i think we will get a shot at an Eastern SEC powerhouse in Dec. I bleed red and black and I to want to get on the college landscape again and I for one hope CMR, and yes Bobo can get us there.

bring the pain…………Nobody on this blog getting paid 3 million a year to produce a decent team. Georgia doesn’t DEMAND Championships, just a decent team. He’s had TWO full bad seasons to turn it around and made all kinds of changes and promises for this year. Eight months to prepare for Boise. How DO YOU THINK WE LOOKED?

I’m with you “bring the pain” I’m supporter always have been and always will be. However’ I still think he should take over the play calling. Nothing against Bobo. I know the offense had bad feild position all night, and I understand not wanting to make a mistake and turn the ball over. However even when you backed up inside your 20 or 10 yard line you can’t be conservative all the time. You’ve got to open it up to create a spark for the team.

People keep saying that Bobo is just calling Richt’s plays. That’s true, but he’s not calling those plays at the same time that Richt would. Bobo doesn’t seem to respond to the situation in the game. He seems to draw up the plays he’ll run in order, before the game starts, and just sticks with his list.

Richt, indeed, needs to call the plays.

Richt/Bobo run a scripted offense/game plan based on Down and distance and field position.
What the defense IS giving us has little to no interest to them. On 3rd and long, we sigh and give up and run up the middle.

Carolina has secondary concerns. You would think we would put Charles, A. White and a WR out wide, Murray in the eye with Figgens and Samuels protecting him and dink them to death with a short passing game. Throw it deep some to the kid from Wilcox county to keep them from crowding the line. OUR line can not establish a running game.

I don’t understand the rational behind our fanbase sometimes. We were a 6-7 last and lost the two best players of that team (Green and Houston) and expect to beat a top 10 team with 25 seniors, 18 by the way are 5th year seniors. On top of that, you lose your starting LT to injury, move a guard to T and NEED to play 8 true freshmen (not to mention adding 8 walk-ons to scholarship, due to availabilty and attrition) in the opener. Then the starting safety gets suspended and starting MLB gets hurt in the second quarter and is replace by a walk-on. So give me a break about getting beat by a BETTER team with more experience and better depth. Yes, UGA has better talent but its young. They would have to play a “perfect” game to beat Boise who is a team that proves year and year out that they can beat anyone when given the time to prepare (3+ weeks or an entire offseason). So, give it a rest and support this team! GO DAWGS!

Read in the Boise paper online that the reason they got to Murray six times for sacks was he had to hold the ball to long because our guys did a good job of keeping their receivers from getting open.

As an outside observer of the UGA program and these blogs, I have to ask the question… How can you say that it will fix things if Richt starts calling the plays?
In previous years the Uga program under Richt has been spiraling downward. At first everyone called for the firing of Martinez. Well you got that along with Gratham. Now, Gratham has plenty of talent to turn things on defense around, but so far I have seen very little to get excited about out of him.
Then it was they need to hire a new strength coach. Well you got that and Joe T. Now it was just 1 game but again the UGA players looked gassed in the 2nd half.
Now it’s Bobo. Again I am not a fan of Bobo. I think his play calling is at times awful. But do you seriously think that Richt has no say in the gameplan at all. He is the head coach and can override any call from the sideline. I think personally that the blame for all this has to go back to the head man. Just my 2 cents…

JB, by then all of the crazies will have taken over the ward. Sometimes, fans need to be just that….fans and support the team. Progress will be made, but it will take time and unless our delusional fanbase gives it, Richt doesn’t have a chance this season.

Because one game is their entire season, who else do they need to prepare for….SDSU, Idaho, etc. The real talent (our depth) for us has only been on campus 5 weeks. Realistically they have no shot being as prepared as a team that has been on campus 3 to 4 off-seasons.

JB, have you looked at the attrition caused by WM and his staff….we only had 40% of his last two defense classes even contribute on the field (that only meant showing up, because they sure weren’t doing a whole lot giving up 40+ points per game). Those two recruting classes (2006 and 2007) have left us thin all of over the defense, which is why two walk-ons were on the field against one of the top 5 offenses in the country during the second quarter. Do you really expect us to stop a good offense with two walk-ons? Bobo’s inability to adapt is our biggest concern.

Boise was like opening night on Broadway. The press was there. The lights were bright. The celebs roamed the sidelines. Scores of newspaper stories have been written about opening night. The Producer has told us all through rehearsals that it would be a great show….one to be proud of………AND IT FLOPS. The reviews were awful…………Hard to get’em back to see another version……………. The crowd nest week will be tougher than last weeks

Delusional in the sense you expect to beat a top 10 team with a team that was 6-7 team minus two first rounders (three if you included TS). They defintley could have won but it would have taken a “perfect” game. Between field position, injuries and the inability to adjust the offense were the reasons we lost, no to mention playing a team that was lights out on offense in the third quarter. Coincidence they caught fire after Tree’s injury?

You’re Right VA DAWG…………..But I saw heads hanging by players and coach’s in the second half when only hours earlier I saw an Auburn team, hit HEAVY by graduation and players leaving for the Pro’s, come back from 2 scores down under 4 minutes left to play with and engaged staff and bench making it happen to WIN. You obviously haven’t beenkeeping up w/ GA fb. Bobo was ‘promoted’ a year after WM was ‘promoted’. Between the two GA has gone backwards.
Losing BV hurt worse, but losing Richt calling plays hurt too. And while you wan’t hire BV back, Richt could take over play calling duty — but he is reluctant to do so.

I feel like our fanbase is turning into the cesspool down 85….and I’m not talking about Atlanta. This “entitlement” crap is old news. Richt was the one who put the heartbeat back in Athens and should be given the season to right the ship…..not one game.
