ATHENS — Georgia coach Mark Richt, under fire since the Bulldogs’ loss on Saturday, found himself on the defensive again during Wednesday’s SEC coaches’ teleconference. By the time he met with beat reporters at the end of Wednesday’s practice, he had resorted to sarcasm.
“I can only guess what I’ll be asked today,” he said with a smile.
When he got a somewhat loaded question, Richt decided to have some fun with it.
The question: “After the game on Saturday, was your response more encouragement and trying to be positive or have you reached a point where you’ve thrown chairs and really tried to light a fire?”
His answer: “Everybody want me to snap? Is that what they want? You all want to see me snap, is that what it is? Yeah? Well, we don’t discuss what happens in the locker room. But if you guys want me to throw a table or something I’ll do that, maybe smash a camera, if that makes everybody feel better.”
Reporters laughed and Richt did, too. But he has encountered a similar line of questioning for much of the last four days. In fact, six questions during Wednesday’s teleconference had something to do with his coaching status or the mood of his team or the fanbase.
“We’re just coaching ball, OK?,” Richt said. “You guys want to make things bigger than they are. The bottom line is like anything in life, you’ve got to control what you can and that is my attitude and my effort and our team’s attitude and effort. That’s true every season. . . . Everybody’s locked in, everybody’s working hard and everybody’s confident we’re going to have a good ballgame.”
Offensive line issues continue
Richt pointed to third-down pass protection as the Bulldogs’ biggest breakdown after last Saturday’s 35-21 loss to No. 4 Boise State in the Georgia Dome. Four days later, he was seeing the same problems on Woodruff Practice Fields.
“Some things just got in my craw,” Richt said after the Bulldogs practiced in full pads for a rare second day in a row in a game week. “Third-down pass protection was just not very good today. You’ve got to win the possession downs, third-and-short, third-and-medium, third-and-long. You usually pass more than you run and we just didn’t protect very good, not good enough to beat anybody.
“Our boys better get it going or Murray is going to be on his back. That’s what made me the most mad.”
Sophomore quarterback Aaron Murray was sacked six times and pressured another 10 times against the Broncos.
Enter South Carolina, which is believed to have one of the best defensive fronts in the SEC. The Gamecocks are particularly strong at defensive end, where junior Devin Taylor (6-7, 248) is a first-team All-SEC and Jadeveon Clowney (6-6, 250) was the No. 1 freshman signee in America.
The key for Georgia, senior center Ben Jones said, is being better on first and second down.
“That’s what happens when you get in third-and-long,” Jones said. “If we had been in third-and-short they couldn’t have brought those blitzes because they would have known we might run the ball. So that’s what we’re focusing on, getting into third-and-mediums and third-and-short so they have to guess run or pass.”
Kwame Geathers still sidelined
Starting nose guard Kwame Geathers was unable to practice with the No. 1 defense for a third consecutive day. The 6-foot-6, 350-pound sophomore from Georgetown, S.C., suffered a neck sprain (aka, “stinger”) in the opener. Nonetheless, Richt believes Geathers will be ready to play on Saturday.
“Kwame is from South Carolina and he wants to play in this ballgame,” Richt said. “I don’t think you could keep him out of this one. We’re just trying to be wise. We don’t want to light him up again and set him back.”
The good news is junior college transfer John Jenkins has been getting almost all the repetitions in practice with the first team. And he needs them.
Defensive coordinator Todd Grantham said this week he believes that Jenkins and Geathers together can help Georgia defend the zone-read dive play up the middle the Gamecocks ran with such effectiveness last year. Tailback Marcus Lattimore had 182 yards rushing and scored two touchdowns on 37 carries in South Carolina’s 17-6 win in Columbia.
Etc. . . .
Richt said the Bulldogs will make a decision on the starting Mo linebacker on Thursday. “We will after we watch the film and discuss what happened today,” Richt said. Georgia is having to replace starter Alec Ogletree, who suffered a broken foot last week. . . . Wide receiver Marlon Brown practiced but was did not participate in contact. His left ankle was heavily wrapped. . . . Georgia practiced on the artificial turf fields Wednesday afternoon in hopes of it being lightly warmer than on the grass fields.

If we had so many people cramping inside the dome, what happens on Saturday at @ 4:30, when it’s 85 degrees outside? Could be a rough one, if geathers cannot play and Jenkins takes all the reps.

I feel sorry for Coach Richt. He is a great man and I know he is doing all he can to turn this around. I believe we will win the game on Saturday. South Carolinia has had 13 turnovers in the last 3 games. You just stop that. Remember Goff and Donnan teams got into mood. Spurrier sound like he is coming to Athens like he went to Jax in 96. Focus on improving every week. Don’t leave out the imagination…I remember the year Dooley broke his down streak in the ’70’s, he ran a gimmick play involving the center. It turned into a touchdown while the opposing team stood and watched the guy gallop to the endzone like a deer caught in the headlights. Dooley had discussed the play with officials prior to the game to verify it’s legality.. It wasn’t a critical play in and of itself, but it seemed to open doors and the opposition didn’t know what to expect when they played Georgia. 2 yards and a cloud of dust became 3-4 yards and a cloud of dust.
I’m just saying don’t allow yourselves to get wrapped around the axle of what everyone expects to see UGA do on the field. Change it up. Use your strengths to your advantage. The o-line is a weakness right now. Work around it till it gels. Call plays that allows Murray to take advantage of zone reads with two to three step drops with a quick release with a safety valve/run option. Waggle passes, draws, and the occasional suprise. Take advantage of the speed and talent on both sides of the ball (i.e. BOYKIN, CROWELL, to name a few). Get the ball in the hands of the playmakers and soon you will be able to run ball control offense. But the line needs time. They’re not ready for the offense you are trying to run.

“We’re just coaching ball, OK?”, “….like anything in life, you’ve got to control what you can…”
Wow!
For the second week in a row Richt has raised the white flag of surrender.
We also get a glimpse into this man’s mind in my opinion.
It almost sounds as if he takes whatever comes and “just” coaching ball is not that important to him.
I hope this man has the ability to see the damage he has done and decides to leave with dignity.
It doesn’t sound like Coach Richt has the fire in the belly to win in The SEC.

As for CMR…just WIN and the critics will go away. Lose…start packing your bags!

Dawg fans aren’t as fickled as you would think if the only contact you had with them was these darned BLOGS. Dawg fans are the most loyal and care enough to sit down and write a bunch of crap on a computer that amounts to nothing more than blowing off steam. Come SATURDAY…the stands will be full again and half the televisions in Georgia will be tuned to the UGA game. Win and it’s a party…Lose and we’re sick and bitchin’ all week. But we all know that this team WILL improve as the year goes on. They got beat last week by the best QB and best TEAM they will see until bowl games. If they had won that game against Boise I would have been shocked. What did shock me however, was the play of the offensive line and the inability of the coaching staff to adjust to a game that required Murray to release the ball faster. There had to have been a reason for that, that we aren’t privy to.

I hope the Dogs do better this week.
After watching the replay of the game in slow mo,
The D looked clueless against the pass.
Boise receivers just ran to an open spot.
There were too many open spots and our guys were slow to react.
The offensive line looked similarly clueless.
Boise didn’t blitz much at all.
Our line looked like the Titanic after it hit the iceberg.
The bright spot on D was the run defense.
On offense…the play of the tight ends was all we can hang our hats on.
As much as I hate to say this–the team doesn’t look much better than last year.
I don’t know if the problem is the players, coaches or both.
Whatever it is–it will take VAST improvement to beat SC.

Just some observations from reading Dawg fans comments on this blog. Something to think about: One of the biggest complaints from fans is why Bobo won’t open up the playbook and consequently open up the offense. I think it has a whole lot to do with who’s in the backfield. First off you have a converted linebacker in Samuel who just started learning the position in spring. Secondly, you have a true freshman who has only been in camp 4 weeks at the most.
I’m not sure what quarter it was but at some point in the Boise game Samuel went down and that left just Crowell (not sure where the other guys were) to play the tailback position. I would imagine that Bobo’s playbook shrunk to about a quarter of an inch thick when that happened. Yes, he should open up the play book but in reality I don’t think he could if he wanted to.
It’s way too early to be calling for Richt’s head on a platter. It is one game that doesn’t really matter and after the SC game the schedule gets way easy. UGA could reel off 5 or 6 at least whether they beat SC or not. You never know what’s going to happen. That’s why they line up and play the games.
Glad college football is back.

WOW!!! Richt just pretty much admitted that the offensive line was a complete mess. Two days until game time and he’s talking about Murray being on his back!!!! SC has some big ole defensive ends and now I’m convinced were going to get beat. Richt deep down inside knows it’s over. He made a lot of money and now can do what ever he wants going forward. I’m sure he could get a job at one of the ACC schools if he wished to stay in coaching or he might chose to do mission work. He sounds like a man defeated who has ram out of answers.

my opinion…This is not a “must” win for UGA, though it seems unlikely that Richt is unlikely to restore what we so need. That is HEART( hear me Erik R.). I was not at the game, but it just seems to me there is no FIRE in Richt….and that “rolls down hill”. Players play reflects on the head coach.
However, I remember UGA teams of years past that would always fight and play hard and still lose a game. I can handle losing if we fight(play hard at all times!) that, but this “we are beat” attitude is what it seems we have too much of….Erik Russell made it simple to understand…..GATA!!! That goes for coaching staff and players! just my 2 cents worth….

I have a feeling the Ole Ball Coach’s offense is going to drop 50 on the Dawgs. If the Dawgs D could not stop a under sized Boise State, how will they stop a well coached Carolina offense.Murray better hope the O line gets a clue or he will be running for his life.A better option may be two tight ends and concentrate on running the ball.Play keep away and control the clock.

I really don’t see how we’re going to beat South Carolina this week. We might hang with them for a few quarters like we did vs. Boise State, but I think their talent and experience is just going to wear us down.
We really lack talent in the trenches, and I tell you what if Aaron Murray doesn’t play better than he did vs. Boise State, I’m fine with us going with someone else. Murray was just awful in that game last week. I’m am clearly underwhelmed by Mr. Crowell and our defense has no heart. If this is what we’re going to do week in and week out, then Richt needs to resign. I can promise you this: if we get blown out vs. South Carolina this week, McGarity will fire Richt regardless of how we finish.

Blah, blah, blah. Richt has no idea. And half the players don’t including the offensive line. Short yardage? You couldn’t gain 2 yards on two downs in the red zone against Boise with a 243 lb. running back? Richt actually has control over a great deal, but he won’t do it. Too stubborn. I honestly believe he’s decided to go out on his own terms rather than have people tell him what to do. Got to respect him for that, but in the end, it will just be more of the same.

If the same team shows up Saturday in Athens that was in the Dome, SC will win by 40 points. SC is stronger than Boise. I don’t see the Dawgs scoring on SC unless there is some lucky long play or kick return. The offensive line could not protect Murray with the guys Boise had, wait ’til SC comes to town.
Hoping for a major turn around this week, but I’ve been hoping for that for a loooooooooong time and it never seems to come. Maybe again Coastal Carolina.

Personally, I’m going to reserve judgment until a bit further into the season. However, just a personal observation, Mark Richt has gone through some tough times with the UGA program but this is the first time that I can remember him being so sensitive to the questions that he has gotten for the past two years but never really seemed to phase him.
Now it appears to be really getting to him and the more he tries not to show it, the more he shows how much he is, at least IMHO, feeling the heat. After all, if he were just tired of answering the same questions over again he would just politely shrug it off, as has heretofore been his way. But now he is struggling to maintain his patented calm, cool, and collected demeanor and seems to be coming a bit unhinged. I use the term unhinged in a very relative way as he has not started throwing chairs ala Bobby Knight, but for the coolest coach in town to be so increasingly sarcastic, that is totally out of character when referenced against his entire career at UGA.
We Bulldog fans can only hope that the players can help get it turned around for someone who has been a credit to UGA and has shown in the past an ability to be a good coach and a good example of a fine human being.

How stupid is it to run a no huddle offense when it appears your team is NOT physically fit enough to hurry things up AND your play calling is moronic? All a no huddle offense does in this case is get off the field quicker via a punt and then your defense has had little to no time to rest. Eventually they wear down and a 7-7 game turns into a 28-7 game. Sound familiar?

To all of the “it’s just one game” people –
Seriously? Those of us that are frustrated and being somewhat negative about the coaches are very passionate about the team and reacting to 3-4 years now of a downhill slide where they keep getting worse every year, not better. I’m not expecting them to win a NC every year or even the SEC or SEC East every single year like some nutso fans but we the amount of talent we consistently get we should at least be competitive every year and in the conversation, in the picture.
Are we seriously expected as fans to just sit there accept a 3-4 year downward slide into mediocrity, see all those talented players never coached up to their potential and just be cool with it? Somebody made the point in the comments on another article that I really liked – a lot of the big talent we recruit, these guys are superstars in high school and often times go on to be top notch NFL players. Yet when they’re at UGA they’re kind of mediocre and never live up the hype or potential. What happens to them at UGA? I can’t really think of anything except not being coached up.

Do you think if CMR were a manager in baseball he would ever get ejected from a game. What I mean to say is watching other games and coaches that seem to be yelling and jumping up and down and with the players like the seat of there pants is on fire will get everbody fired up. I have never met the man but what I have seen over the years is that Richt acts more like a AD. There you go, if they don’t have the season they want, ask Richt to be assistant AD and hire Gary Patterson from TCU.

You can trace the slide back to when we’d eel out a win against heavy underdogs and Richt would give us quotes like “any win is a great win”. Other coaches would burn red hot when their team played down to an opponent seeing an opportunity for obvious and needed improvement.
Once you become complacent and do not demand excellence, mediocrity takes hold and good luck getting anything better.

Personally, I feel like throwing a chair, everytime someone comes up, demanding UGA fire Richt.
Someone, who as demanded Richt’s ouster, in an online blog, is at it again and this woman doesn’t know heads nor tails of what it takes to win a football game. Nor does she have a clue as to what loyalty is all about.
It’s easy to demand a coach, whose team has lost, be axed but it’s a different thing to remain loyal.
There’s a lot more to winning a football game, than calling specific plays and hoping the team will execute them. And, make no mistake aobut it, UGA was 28 point underdogs, last week and they only lost by about 20 points.

Some observations from a GT fan after reading most all of the negative comments from recent blogs by UGA “fans”:
.UGA fans must race reality….no team can win every game.
.UGA fans have a right to their opinions about CMR and Bobo but they should refrain from nasty comments that many of them make.
.UGA fans should be thankful for what they have. Some of these blessings include a financially strong atheletic association, great facilities, the ability to recruit top talent, etc.
. Just one losing season in 10 years does not justify a coach like CMR to be fired. Get a life UGA fans.

The only patience that should be wearing thin is the season ticket holders and the boosters that contribute a lot every year, as well as any that support the team.. The problem with making 3 million dollars a year is you lose perspective as to the fact that you are making in one year what the average high paying job makes in a life time. You start feeling that you don’t have to answer to the fans and that you are better than and smarter than everybody. Most of the questions that I had heard that get’s CMR really ticked off has been raised for 3 years now by a lot of fans and were not addressed until at the end of last year and some still are not addressed.
The biggest two was Bobo’s incompetence and certain glaring deficient recruiting for the offensive line which is all on Garner. Most fans that know a lot about football saw these problem coming a few years back which were not addressed.
All Georgia fan’s can demand a lot more than we are getting for a 3 million a year salary and those of you that are okay with us losing 7 games are already rich or you haven’t paused a minute and really given it much thought as to how much 3 million actually is.

If Richt doesn’t like the way the offensive line is blocking, it is his fault — he is the one who hired this new offensive line coach from an inferior conference. Gosh, I hope SC puts the dagger in UGA this weekend — we need to keep losing games so we can get rid of Richt and get a new coach. UGA will not beat USC this weekend — they have better coaches — and are more physical.

CMR never likes anybody to see him sweat. We can be losing by 28 and when he talks into his headset you don’t know if he’s changing anything (unlikely) or ordering McDonalds. Nice guy and he’s not stupid. If he knew how to stop the Dawg’s slide, he would. Thing is, he doesn’t. So we get gimmicks and hype instead of meaningful improvement on the team. We hear about great recruiting class after great recruiting class. Yet all that supposed talent coming through the door never quite seems to show up on the field. We’re simply big enough to beat AA teams and most lower tier football teams. But we don’t hold a candle to the upper tier SEC teams and haven’t for a long time now. The next coach will have to fix that. Absolutely time for new coaching blood in Athens.

Please Block and tackle this week.
That game game last week was poor all the way around.
Except for Boykin, Charles, and Mitchell.
Play to our strengths, which are speed with Mitchell, on the outside, and TE’s no team can cover.
Pass to our TE’s on first down some, and make changes to the D scheme, when the other teams Offense makes changes.
Also use some two TE sets on third down and bring Figgins in, to protect Murray.

I read a biography on Richt recently which stated that he was Jim Kelly’s backup at Miami , but still a good qb who played well when Kelly got hurt a few games. He then went out to the Denver Broncos to play under our own Dan Reeves, when of all things John Elway came to Denver a few weeks later. It said Reeves had to cut Richt, and Richt wanted to play so badly that he started crying in Reeves’ office when Reeves was telling him the news, and then Reeves started crying. He then went to Miami and off all people Dan Marino comes in and Richt gets cut again. The book said that Shula was not emotional about it like Reeves.

Why is Richt complaining about pass protection, after all he hired his bud Willie Friendly (no sarcasm intended) to coach the offensive line WITHOUT interviewing another person for the job. His response to the hire was there would be a continuation of the terminology (whatever that means) because he had been a graduate assistant at UGA. Great reason for hiring someone huh!!!!!!! Also Richt must love the name Willie, seems like I remember another bud named Willis as in Martinez

To go with good coaching, the name of the game is good recruiting. Obviously, our O-line recruiting is suspect. Spurrier must be a dynamite recruiter as is Saban. I see where Spurrier picked up seven (7) recruits from Georgia for the 2012 season. Perhaps we need to look at the strength of our recruiters.

Richt would have been better off 2 years ago cleaning house and UGA fans would have understood that he was rebuilding and cut him some slack. He chose to piece meal and it shows. Bobo’s record speaks for itself, the conditioning program is less than a year old but will get better, Eric Zeir said it best that after 2 years the D scheme is no longer in a learning curve. You could not tell if from the BS game. Richt is upset about the pass blocking and is working to get it right. This is like teaching a combat soldier to fire his weapon while on patrol. Good luck Mark.

If anything is said about the Bulldogs at all, it is usually something like: “I just hope Coach doesn’t run up the score too badly on the dawgs this year, so they don’t go and fire Richt.”

Richt is slick. “I’m just coaching, OK?” he says… That’s exactly not what he’s doing. He tried to blame Saturday night’s debacle on the offensive line. It isn’t their fault; the stupid game scheme and play calling put the line in an untenable position.
I can’t get over how many players are not playing where their natural abilities would serve the team best. To Richt and Bobo, everyone’s just a peg that has to get jammed into a specific hole to fit their stupid “scheme.” Well, their scheme has NEVER worked. The success of his early years were in spite of him, not because of him.
I heard that he has put his Loganville house on the market earlier this week. I hope that this is true and that this is a sign. Richt just doesn’t have coaching in his blood. He’s been an imposter his whole career and continues, at least through the interview described above.
We have paid this imposter THIRTY MILLION DOLLARS when our nation is bankrupt and our regular students have trouble making tuition. That’s a $100 tax every year on every student at UGA!

BTW, JB, I did catch most of the replay last night, and just as I remembered it live, I think you are wrong that they just flat gave up in the third quarter. I think you know that directors pick and choose what shots to show, and of cource you can see some pretty sad fellows. But I think you are overlooking just as many images of a team that did work hard till the end, despite the game obviously being decided.
But no, to answer your question, there wasn’t anyone over there running around yelling “come on guys we can still beat this Idaho State team that shouldn’t have even been in the game with us”.
I would however bet the farm that if AUburn had been in the dome, they would have been losing by more, and the pictures of thier D-line sitting on the bench would have been just as somber.

We are all mad and sick of this type of performance. But one thing we better realize. The BEST thing that can happen for us is for Richt to succeed. We should not wish for his being fired. Coaching changes are a minefield. We could end up worse off. We could end up with corruption or probation like so many other schools are having.
Once you make a change, if things don’t improve drastically, then where do you go? How many on here know how good a coach Kirby Smart really is? Not one of us. We think we know. We have never see the man as a head coach.
In case you havent noticed, this is a tough a$$ conference. You hire the wrong guy and he will come in here and not be able to recruit and actually make things worse.
I know you all think it cannot get worse. You are dead wrong. We took Fla to overtime. WE went toe to toe with the National Champs last year for 3.5 quarters. We were leading SC. It could get a heck of a lot worse.
Even if we hired a great young fiery coach, some kids will transfer. There will be a drop off. There will be 3 years before we know anything about what we have. I for one do not want to go through that.
I would rather win now with this staff. Granted, the O-line is a COMPLETE liability. They were awful Saturday night and it sounds like they are no better in practice.
O-line is the entire key. The D will play better if we can get some Time of Possesion.

I don’t get these people who are constantly recommending that Richt get rid of one of his assistants or “hire some better coordinators”. What a joke. He’s been here eleven years now. All the excuses are lame today–we’ve heard every one of them in the book multiple times. The sorry state of Georgia football is on his shoulders and his shoulders alone. It’s not Bobo’s fault. He’s doing his best. Problem is, it’s not good enough and never was. Richt likes him though and as CEO he has decided to give him big raises instead of a pink slip. So whose fault is that?
Have we gotten even one million dollars of value from the Tan Man over the past eleven years? No. The Bulldog nation has been snookered and ripped off by Marjoe Mark Richt and his Medicine Show.
Every day he continues is another week it will take the next coach to right the ship.
People ask, “who could replace him?” Answer: ANYONE! Best, however is a proven SEC head coach who is a real sweat shirt with a whistle around his neck head coach, not a media logo or a CEO posing as a coach. Mullen from MSU comes to mind. The Board of Regents needs to get out the checkbook and write the biggest check that any coach in the NCAA receives, because we want the BEST. If you want championships, you will not do it on the cheap. UGA is the second most profitable colelgiate athletic program in the SEC and the second most profitable in the NCAA. How bout a little ROA for the fan base and loyal alumni?

It’s Thursday and I think everybody has gotten their frustrations out of their systems. Time to get behind the team and support them and Coach Richt. Enough spewing “fire the coach”. Truth is that is a very good, experienced Boise State team. They have beaten Oregon, Oklahoma, VT when they all those teams were ranked in the top 10. We are heading into SEC play and anything can happen there on any given Saturday. Grantham better be ready for what Spurrier is going to throw at him. The D wasn’t all that bad against that top notch Boise O. Having a productive offense that can run time off the clock and put points on the board is what we need. I didn’t understand the constant runs up the middle when what yardage we did earn came on the sweep and runs to the outside. Our backs, IC, Thomas, and Boykin when in on the offense are FAST and they should be able to exploit that.

I agree with supporting the Dawgs but with a poor coaching performance and a loss the fans that donate money to the school need to write formal letters to the President and AD to ask for a change at head coach. The problem with GA is that this program has gone down hill since the Alabama Blackout. If boosters like what they see then keep Richt and say nothing. People who post on these forums do not mean anything.

Read the Carolina message boards and they are as nervous as a banny rooster. They have a weakness on defense and it was exposed big time Saturday( them admitting it, not me). One DB got burned three times for TD’s pretty quick. They KNOW they will score. They are worried about the Dawgs figuring out a way to dink pass them to death and move the chains. The are confident they can keep us from rushing for any scores. Just reporting what I’m reading.

Folks, Richt can’t even attract good assistants these days. Look at Will Friend. Here we are, a flagship SEC university with one of the finest traditions in the country. Richt hires some recent GA from UAB. Ponder that for a second before you decide whose fault it is that the offensive line didn’t distinguish itself last week. The good young coaches know that Richt is an imposter and is not a master of collegiate football coaching. They don’t want to hitch onto a loser. Richt cannot improve his staff over what it is because within the coaching ranks he’s been outed for several years now.

I know it’s hard to think about College football coach’s this way, but I know of nowhere in America a person earning 3 mil a year, accountable to others, can fail at his job for 2-3 years and keep it. I don’t believe the argument could be made, well, we made money 4 years ago.
Mark makes a lot of money to do one thing. Being a good role model is just a side bar. I know other football schools howl when they hear the argument on here ‘what a good man he is”. He is, but that’s not what is #1 job is. The whole conference loves him. I want them to hate Dan Mullen.

I support the players. (I wish they would cut the dreads and stop tweeting and facebooking) I also would love it if the coaches could turn things around and become the best in college football.
Unfortunately, I have no faith in the offensive play calling after last weekend. I think we have switched places with Mississippi State. They used to expect to loose on the weekend, and we expected to win. Now, it is the opposite.
When our coaches don’t anticipate crowd noise on the first position and elect to have the no huddle without and planning for crowd noise in the dome, that is dumb. Not having quick outs and having zero yard slow running plays up the middle time after time, that is dumb. Blaming the OL instead of working with what you have, that is dumb.

I have watched the game a few times now and have tried to analyze each play and came to the conclusion that Bobo and Richt are catching a lot of unfair flack; now I didn’t say they were perfect. It’s not either of their fault that we had some dropped passes which would have kept drives alive and kept our O on the field. It’s not either of their faults that we missed the FG. Bobo caught a lot of sh&% for running the draw on 3rd and 15. He did that one time and it was not that bad of a call with Boise secondary sitting back expecting the pass. It wasn’t Bobo’s fault that we threw an INT. Moore was just deadly accurate and they have a more mature, experienced, disciplined team with 25 seniors. Now we do have a player on D that we should take a look at for his lack of tackling abilities.

As a Tech man I would like to say that its sad to see how uga fans treat their team and coach after losses! I guess this is what makes me hate yall so much! Yall have to be the most obnoxious and unrealistic fan base in college sports! If I was a high school recruit and followed uga blogs or attended games and had to be around some of the foolishness yall pull before, during and after games I would never go there! I guess people can only do better when they know better!!! Uga get top 5-10 recruting classes almost every year, therefore one may be forced to wonder why these players fall off once at uga!!!! I for one know that its not always a coaching issue! Have any of you fools ever thought that there 4 & 5 star recruits are over hyped??? Some of these so called studs that yall are getting might look the part but they have no heart to go with all that talent! A coach cant make a player have whats not inside of him! Coaches are blamed all to often by fools who either never played or really dont know the game! Im a believer in the fact that coaches dont forget how to coach, but players often make it appear as though thats the case. On saturday I way a team that looks like they could compete with a NFL team……..that was until the ball was snapped!!! Just food for thought for yall fools!!!!!

This may SOUND unfair, but I think our program has gotten so bad that the coaches no longer recognize what well played football is.
Between week 1 and week 2 the head coach is concerned that we can’t beat anybody with the way the offensive line is practicing. Two weeks ago, we heard that the offensive line was playing very well and as long we don’t have a lot of injuries… we only have to play 5 so we should be fine.
Is it that we have sunk so low that we no longer have a way to measure how the team looks in pre-season?
This is a business, like it or not ...........

Big Boy football pays a huge salary to their coaches. That is why the SEC is always near or at the TOP. This is also why there are schools begging to join the club and one is not GT.
CMR is paid a fine salary with perks. UGA for going on THREE ( 3 ) years has been dreadful. This will not continue. Frankly, if we lose to SC CMR should be fired on the spot and just have anyone come in ( TG) and manage the rest of the year. This way, McGarity can look for and interview top caliber guys for the job next year.
Bring in the right guy AND STAFF and have him sign about 8 JUCO boys for the UGA O line, and with the core skill players …………………UGA could begin to resurrect our fortunes back to the 9-2 or 9-3 or 10-2 seaons that we easily should achieve ………………year in and year out.

I’m not too sure those delayed handoffs out of the shotgun are helping our O-line either. I-formation and let Crowell follow Figgins through the 3-hole all day long. Bump it to the outside from time to time.
Call some pass plays that allow Murray to get rid of the ball quick or tuck it and run for the sideline and 5 yards. Roll him out from time to time so the defense can’t zero in on him.

Whether a real UGA fan/grad or not, you are 150% correct in your assessment of why young gun coaches want no part of UGA under CMR.
Coach Chavez of LSU destroyed that fast break of Oregon last week and made them look like a JUCO. SC’s D coach will humble UGA’s inept lil offense even further and he too was asked to come on down to A town by CMR and took a giant pass.

1eyedJack, maybe that is what infuriated me so much about the Boise game. We had huge figgins, and hardly used him. We should have broken the smaller Boise team by running our old style power I and worn them out with toss sweeps.
This was the ideal game to break a top ranked opponent, and we instead played to the opponents strengths. SC will hold up much better against a power run game, but we have no choice but to do it along with short passes. Do I think Bobo or Richt will? I have no freakin idea. I expect they will continue with the shotgun and delay runs.

UGA play Boise St who is a very good team, people have to understand that there are teams that are not in the SEC that are real good.
Florida did look pretty good but can’t say they looked better then UGA because of who they were playing
USCe Looked ok, East Carolina is a pretty good team but not to level of Boise St.
Kentucky didn’t look as good as I thought they would be
Tenn looked a little better then I thought, but still have to wait and see.

Maybe if the majority of the idiots played football or was ever fortunate enough to watch practice or game film with a college or NFL coach, they would see the breakdown of why plays and players succeed or fail on thoes levels! I heard David Greene on 790 state that it takes 11 players to make a scheme work! If just one player misses an assignment or gets dominated it will make a coach look as though the was bested on that play! Players know when they mess and and cause a play or scheme to fail, but often they get overlooked by the average fan because its looked at from a broad prespective…..ie wins and looses! Like I said, some people know the game from playing it and other think they know the game from watching it!

USC 55, UGA 17….Spurrier wants to beat his ‘95 record when he hung 52 on the Dogs when he was with Florida. Matter of fact, those were back to back 52’s in ‘94 and ‘95.
Florida was on 17 of the last 20 since 1990, and CMR has only won 2 of 10 since arriving at UGA, and someone gives this guy a 10 year extension? CMR is smiling because he is a very wealthy man.

JB, I did see the difference and I think I mentioned that in my post. I said that Boise was more mature, experienced and disciplined. Furthermore, I mentioned that Bobo and Richt weren’t perfect but they are being tarred and feathered unfairly in this situation. Again they didn’t drop those passes and neither did the Boise receivers. Was it their fault that Boykin’s shoe came off in the end zone (maybe it was, they should have checked pregame to make sure everyones shoes were tied) was it their fault that Crowell slipped in the backfield? I am saying that if some of those things don’t happen to UGA maybe we have a different outcome. I am not saying that Richt and Bobo are the best coaches in the Nation, what I am saying in this game only, they are taking more heat than is deserved!

I posted comments yesterday admonishing the coaching staff. After reviewing the game last night, I DVR’d it, I wil back off somewhat. There were several plays in the first half where players didn’t execute. Several times it was running backs. Right play was called had a lane but back didn’t folllow blockers or see the correct running lane. This happened with counter twice and sweep once. Those 3 times there were big running lanes that the backs couldn’t find. Also, first possession 3rd down pass to OC I believe was a catchable ball, #7 didn’t get his head around in time to make a play on the ball. Was it a perfect throw – no. Was it a tight window – yes. Should OC have made a play on the ball – yes. TK should be shown the sideline for a while, multiple drops that killed drives.
Murray’s INT was a product of an Ealy style block from IC. He picked the right assignment then through a lookout block. (Hey Murray – lookout) On that play Murray had man coverage on the outside, which is where he was going with the ball, except the couldn’t step into the throw and the caused it to be short and picked. Again Execution by a player was at fault.
Yes there were times when our OL got blown up and we must cut back on the times that happens but poor execution by players was a big problem. This also put our Defense back on the field, they got tired and this gave Moore more chances to score. Take 2 possesions away from BSU at the end of each haf and you may have had a 21 – 21 game. Poor execution gave them more possessions. Cant do that with a good team.
SO STAFF FIX THE PROBLEMS AND THINGS MAY WORK OUT FOR A GOOD YEAR AFTER ALL.

He won the SEC in 2002. Our first title in 20 years.

Man, for a second there I was feeling sorry for CMR after 4 and 3/4 pages of hate spewing out over losing to a non-conference top 5 opponent. I’m a yellow jacket thru and thru,( we don’t even have red christmas ornaments, I do not have red clothes, I break all the red crayons and colored pencils, I hate dogs almost as much as Mike Vick… ok maybe a slight exaggeration.) but Richt has done a lot for you guys and a rebuilding season or 2 is to be expected every once and again. This talk of firing is a bit premature. Hewitt had 3 or 4 seasons to turn something around and all he ever acomplished was recruiting one and dones who then go on to the NBA then get kicked out and kill moms. Not a lot to write home about. It was time for Hewitt to leave based on both his record and the type of player he went after. I do not care how many Atlanta Celtics players we get if they all leave after a year and don’t help build a program. In the case of Richt, perhaps he has underachieved for a while, but this season is a new one and you guys have a good chance to be contenders for the east in a very very weak schedule. SC is really your only worthy opponent this year, though I would not be surprised to see UF pull something out of a hat.
My question is, if you fire CMR this season, who will you go after to replace him? Do you feel that there is a suitable replacement currently available or soon to be available? Mike Leech?

Kinda ironic that I thought if Gaily would hire a hot shot OC, because he was as lost as Bobo calling a game, he could turn Tech around. Stubborn I guess. If Richt would have demoted Bobo to QB coach last year and open the vault for say1 mil per year( as Auburn just did with that OC they have) and hired Ralph Frigen as OC and turned it over to him, he could be at Georgia forever. Stubborn I guess,

I think that Herschel should have won the Heisman all three years that he played but it didn’t happen, The Atlanta Braves should have won the 91 World Series, didn’t happen, my point is that you have to have some luck and Boise did! That we shouldn’t support ‘our’ team just because ‘you’ don’t think that the coach(s) are ‘your kinda guys’? I got news for you, it’s people like you that have kept this program from being as good as it could have been, and can still be…at the top. Bandwagoners and folks that think they have some special insights into the ability and thinking of the coaches and team hurt the program far beyond any of ‘us idiots’…who knows, maybe that was your purpose all along. Just know something, I may be disappointed…I may even be, a bit, dis-heartened…but this is exactly when these guys need us. Understand something, many of usI won’t put up with those that openly criticize these guys just when they’re trying to dig out of the grave you people have, seemingly happily, been shoveling dirt on. Be careful what you say to a ‘Dawg’ you don’t know, cause you never can tell what ‘all in’ means to some of us. Richt may not be the kind of guy that throws something, but I am and so are plenty of others. There’ll be time enough at the end of the season to evaluate where we are and what needs to be done, meanwhile those of us that are standing with ‘our guys’ have got their backs – and that, sadly, means against the likes of too many, so-called, Georgia fans that I guess, love to be able to say ‘I told you so’.

Also, I agree that if the program can’t be turned around after this YEAR, not one game, then we need to go in another direction. That’s not saying anything against CMR, it just means that a change of scenery may be in order for both him and the team.
I, as a Christian also, find it disgusting how some of you want to yell about his faith has nothing to do with football but you are the first ones to even bring it up and bash him about it. It shows a complete lack of maturity, character and class. The fact is, even if he is shown the door at some point, his faith will allow him to thoroughly land on his feet. But because the man prays to an almighty God is not for you or anyone else to judge him on.
He has never asked for mercy from the pathetic fair weather fans because of it. He has never used it as a way to seek your forgiveness nor does he need it. Why? Because there are a group of true fans on here that remember that his first 8 years were light years better than the previous 20. But the fair weathers are going to try to judge him on the previous 2 years and 1 game. I for one remember that Ray Goof and Jim Donnan hadn’t even a sniff of an SEC title but CMR comes along and we soon realize what it is again to win one.
Yes, could the coaching have been better? Of course. Could you fair weather fans do better at your job? I am sure you could but you still have one.

I said it last year and I’ll say it again, for 4 years prior people have been talking about Georgia’s line being experienced and talented and “good”
There’s not a Max Jean Gilles in the building.
It’s time to stop saying that Georgia all this talent. They don’t. They are as good as most at QB; TE; CB; and special teams.
They have holes everywhere else and have for some time. They have recruited the wrong players and they have recruited guys that simply can’t play. The lack of experienced, quality, in shape talent are the main reasons they don’t resemble a top half SEC football team.
Tech '10
September 8th, 2011

JB: Gailey’s downfall was never his ability to recruit talent, it was indeed his stubborness, like you pointed out. He was too stubborn to pull Ball, who was ever teams favorite Tech player who could notoriously not count to 4, for 4 years, despite his awful play, his bad attitude, and his inability to develope as both a man and a player. Gailey could have saved his job had he hired an OC that had a clue. I enjoyed our defense under Tenuda except for the “having a terrible secondary” thing, so that side of the ball was always fun to watch and is usually what kept us in games. Soooooo what I am saying is, I agree whole heartedly with you and if CMR wants his job bad enough, he is going to have to make a decision on a new OC. With Richt’s ability to recruit, UGA would be dumb to get rid of him IF he puts people in place to develop that talent once it gets to y’all, otherwise you could have the best recruiting class or the 12th best and it wouldn’t really matter. Stubborn would be an appropriate choice of word here.

It does not make me feel good at ALL that our o-line couldn’t protect Murray against our defense which couldn’t get ANY pressure on Moore. We’re in trouble, big time. Not just the SC game, but every game. When you’re as bad as we are up front on both sides of the ball, you just aren’t going to win many games in the SEC. I’d say we should recruit better talent, but we had superior athletes compared to Boise and UCF and we know how those games turned out. Our new “Old School” conditioning program does not appear to have had any better affect than the Coach Van’s program. 2nd year in the 3-4, we still can’t get pressure on the QB or stop the run. New o-line coach-same sorry, soft play up front. We kick it like Gus the Kicking Mule, but you don’t win kicking punts and field goals. Something has to change in the players or we will continue to stink. Richt and these guys haven’t forgotten how to coach, but these players don’t appear to be very coachable.

Values vs Win at All Cost Dichotomy
September 8th, 2011
11:24 am
Richt is a man of high values, integrity, character, christian faith, etc. Now comes the hard part…dealing with adversity, public perception, win at all costs, no delayed gratification, etc.
Face it folks. It’s the crappy society we live in today in America. Golden parachutes for executives, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, loop holes in compliance, if the other guy is doing it then I should do it, too.
What ever happened to learning from losing. It’s tough, indeed, but it builds character and stamina. I’d much rather have a coach with morals, faith, cool under pressure, stay the course, etc. Not every team can win the championship every year.
Now, having said that, UGA should win with the resources, the recruiting base, facilities, and fan support that’s evident. It’s up to Mark to learn from program missteps and correct them. I agree with many folks, and I share their frustrations. We do need a win to pipe things down.

I would have loved to see a run on 3rd and short but Bozo thinks he is going to outsmart somebody and goes for the home run. Bozo must not have any faith you guys can make enough blocks on 1st and 2nd to even be in position for a 3rd and short play. DawginLex, I agree that a lot of sinners hate Richt because of his Christianity.
I am a sinner – though I don’t want to be and try not to be – but, I don’t want Richt to go because of his faith. I really don’t want him to go, at all but I think he may have to. He is stubborn and has too much loyalty to his coaches over his players and employer. Bobo isn’t a good play caller and I don’t think he organizes the offense very well. I also don’t know that he or Richt even recognize it.
It doesn’t mean that Bobo isn’t a good guy, but he is in over his head in rough, shark infested waters with stones tied to his feet. Richt can only save him by moving him to shallower water and taking over the OC calls… maybe even getting in touch with some of the brilliant High School Offensive coaches around and have them text plays to him on the sideline. (half kidding)
I want Richt and Bobo to be fantastically successful, and maybe that is because I believe they are nice guys and I want to support fellow Christians. Even though praying for winning a football game is silly and probably taking God in vain, I do pray for Richt and Bobo to be successful. Maybe, it won’t be with UGA.

The Dawgs have to find their strengths and maximize them until their weaknesses catch up. The offense needs to use the big backs to protect the QB and let Crowell out in the flat to use his speed as a dump pass back. The Defense has got to stunt more on the line to confuse the SC front, whether they intend to blitz or not. Last week they sat down in their position and created zero confusion for Boise. The couple times we did blitz made their QB finally look human. Mix it up this week. Act like you’ve got some intelligence Bobo. @ Values vs Win…………You said “It’s up to Mark to learn from program missteps and correct them.”
For a few years now I’ve resisted the urge to jump on the fire Richt bandwagon. My reasoning has been that while the team seemed to be declining, and losing because of the same reasons…stupid errors, bad playcalling, bad decision making, that it was all part of a learning process for Richt. This is still his first head coaching gig, and is still a relatively young coach who should be learning from his mistakes on the job. But I’ve finally come around to the fact that Richt either can’t, won’t or is incapable of learning from his mistakes. Because it’s every year now we’re losing games because of the same lack of fundamentals and generally bad coaching. He’s not learning. He does need to go.

Lex, i think you are off base about Richt’s critics…
Everyone acknowledges that he is a fine man, just seems to have lost his fire for coaching…
People may not like to see him under so much pressure and scrutiny, but that is big time SEC Football and happens everywhere.
You should have seen the Gator forums when Urban was there and they played without intensity… Everyone notices that type of play, and no fans like it…
You guys need to dump Richt, Bobo, and Grantham and bring in a coach that is intense and cold hearted…

Did anyone actually watch how the game slipped away on offense, the D did play very well in the first 2 qtrs against a top 5 team & a QB out there throwing darts. Other than Boykins 80 yd run the only thing I saw the offense do was kill momentum & make mistakes. Richt is a guy with an OC background, that should be very embarrasing to him, with the effort that was shown on that side of the ball. Sometimes speed doesn’t get it done, U also need technique & strength. Boise St. basically gave UGA a football 101 class, with players from places like Hawaii !!!

But let’s be honest, his beliefs should in no way be part of the conversation because not once has he said anything like “well, things don’t look good, but God will fix it all with my ability to pray and with that, we will win on Saturday” .. I think people hear about his beliefs and decide it’s just one more thing to attack him on. There is no real basis or merit to the criticism based on his beliefs.

You probably should have upped the ante to $100 with your nephew. Then again he is just a nephew. No sense taking advantage of family.
Just reading from the dawg nation you get the sense that a number of them have already given up on the season and that if they lose to Carolina that 80-90% of them will write the season off. Heck even if the dawgs lose the Carolina game they could still see an 8-4 or possibly 9-3 season. The only game I absolutely can’t see the dawgs winning is the Miss state game. All the others they have a chance. A 9-3 regular season would be respectable and if the dawgs could win a bowl game a 10 win season is always a good season.

It doesn’t matter who is the head coach if he can’t direct the team in the right direction. The two main people that determine the greatness of a team is the offensive and defensive coordinators. The head coach is the person that evaluates what he has with his recruits and adjust to those strengths. Some examples are Auburn changed everything to complement Cam Newton strengths as did Florida when Tebow was there.
CMR needs to play to Murray’s strengths not make him run stuff that isn’t natural for him. Also Murray is very slow in making a decision . I think LeMay should be given a chance if Murray is not going to run the ball at least 10 to 15 times a game. I think LeMay or Marshall could do better because they want hesitate to run the ball.

Since Mr. Towers did not put a “comments section” at the bottom of his article on SC recruiting will put my comments here.(Why do they pick and choose where they allow comments?) I believe this is relevant anyway to this article. I saw just last week on one of the high school games I was watching that of the 5 top GA HS recruits that 3 of them were headed to Alabama. That should be a downright “sin” and should never happen. MR is not only hurting the DAWGS with his coaching but also in recruiting. BTW, heard just before the season started that Marcus Lattimore had bulked up with about 20 lbs. extra this year. If he had 182 yds. rushing last year vs the DAWGS what will he end up with this year against that porous defense? It’s gonna be a long Saturday for MR and the DAWGS!

Most of them in the SEC & they have been pounding UGA, we know GA produces a high number of top recruits every year……yet if we bring them in & never get them to improve on the stuff they don’t do well…. then all you have is a bunch of guys who still make the mistakes they made in HS…yes we produce our share of pros due to the fact you cannot stop pure raw athleticism

Conspiracy theory to ponder. Why did we end up playing Boise? Didnt we originally have our first game scheduled with Louisville, then why back out of that plan once McGarity came into office? Is there already something in the works with Peterson? Was it to give the bulldawg fans and boosters a taste of our new head coach for next year, by playing Boise in the dome? McGarity coming from UF, working under their AD, whom coincidently brought in Meyer (who was from the same conference as Peterson)…possibly running similar offenses and football intellect. Maybe some form of common denominator? Plus McGarity giving Richt everything he needs to succeed, or just enough rope to hang himself…eventually allowing McGarity to justify his decision to let Richt go? Any thoughts?
Regardless, i will support the hardwork those players put out on the field…regardless of the wins/losses.

Its hard to see coach Richt pushed to this point, and even harder watching him handle the situation he is in so poorly. He is defiant in the face of MANY problems with the team. It trickles down to the players too, as many have taken to facebook or twitter calling out UGA fans as opposed to stepping up. This is a sinking ship, and its hard for this alum to watch, because I love Coach Richt.
I saw Brady Hoke, Michigan’s new coach do a post game interview after their game Saturday against a lesser opponent, and he was the opposite of Richt. He called out his coaches, himself, and his players. He specifically sited issues, and didn’t sugar coat…”need to get off blocks better”, “need to tackle to the ground better”, “need to get lined up faster”, “need to call better 3 down plays and get off the field”.
I think Coach Richt is so content with his legacy (which he has earned in my book), that he wouldn’t “do” or “say” what it took to turn the program around. I never knew he would be so stubborn…..oh well. Go Dawgs, we will get this turned around one way or another!

Comments have been made about returning GA to our former glory. However, if we are totally honest with ourselves, the glory we speak of is 30 years ago. Since the SEC split into 2 divisions with a championship game against the east, here are the comparitives: UF: 90-11;
UT: 74-27; UGA: 58-43; SC: 40-55; UK: 23-80; VU: 16-85. Figuring 20 of our wins have come against Vandy and Kentucky, how dominant have we actually been? Richt has got us an SEC title and a couple appearances in the SECCG. What other coach has done that for us? Perhaps we have an overinflated opinion of “bulldog” football. It could be we are Mississippi State with better facilities?

The situation with Coach Richt is going to work out one way or the other. Everybody already knows that. There is absolutely NO point in him calling out anyone in public or giving in to emotional desires to “hear” him say something (that isn’t going to matter or pacify anyone anyway). If he needs to act defiant toward questions of his “firing” to try to make the point that he is not going to fuel that talk, in light of….a season to play minus one game and recruiting going on……..I say, defy. Very smart to do. What the hell is he suppose to say? I don’t think first year Brady Hoke has anywhere close to the same set of circumstances and concerns to deal with when calculating his words.

That may help if we actually stopped them from scoring from 30 yards out. Boise State threw all over us last week, so “stuffing” the middle won’t do jack in terms of slowing down a passing game. And South Carolina having the best receiver in the country, in my eyes, doesn’t bode well for us trying to stuff the middle. I know the media, the fans and the ENTIRE WORLD wants Richt to be fired. Just keep one thing in mind. Had Richt had had the SAME LUCK or SIMILAR LUCK that former georgia bulldog coach Vince Dooley had when Dooley was coaching the bulldogs 30 years ago, Richt would have definitely won one title and possibly 2 national championships and would have been close to winning a third. Also keep in mind HOW MANY OF RICHTS QUALITY GEORGIA FOOTBALL ATHLETES have been in trouble since Richt took over the program about 10 years ago. All those players lost due to suspension who were unable to play Im sure may have cost Richt maybe as many as 10 more wins over the years. THE BOTTOM LINE–RICHT IS A FRONTLINE, HIGH CALIBRE, FIRST BALLOT HALL-OF-FAME COACH, WHO IS SIMILAR IN QUALITY TO JOE PATERNO, STEVE SPURRIER, BEAR BRYANT or even former florida state coach BOBBY BOWDEN. The only problem with Richt is that Richt has not had one ounce of luck since his coaching career began. I remember there was one year when Richts team should have been playing for the BCS National championship because the #1 and #2 teams were both upset the week before the national rankings, and georgia was in the #3 spot and should have moved up to either #2 or #1 to play for the title. WRONG. Instead Georgia MOVED BACKWARDS TO #5 OR #6 and LSU instead played for the title and won it. I tell you, Richt cant catch a break, but in my mind he will ALWAYS BE THE BEST COACH GEORGIA EVER HAD, EVEN BETTER THAN VINCE DOOLEY. DOOLEY WAS KNOWN TO BE GREAT BECAUSE DOOLEY HAD HERSHEL WALKER. WALKER WOULD MAKE ANYONE LOOK GREAT.

Okay lets go over this again…Georgia Fans are the most loyal patient fans in the SEC…when the team is giving max effort, has heart and hustle and the coaches are passionate we understand and will give props…nobody who has watched the Dawgs loose SEVEN of the LAST EIGHT games to ranked opponents has seen any of that…I would love to see Mark throw a visor/chair/fit or any expression of concern or passion about the state of disrepair the team is in…all that being said he came from the Bobby Bowden school of spectator coaching while I tend to my social/church obligations and broad brushes the lack of discipline with a “we’re building boys into men” ministry statement. I watched the Coach Chris Petersen (we all remember him) show last night just to see what Boise State is about…very interesting… he recruits based on whether the athletes are good students, good character and will fit into their blue collar culture…they are very concerned about their culture and emphasize working harder and smarter as a unit…as a team…I noticed a complete lack of self promotion after any tackles much less routine ones…his team was in shape organized and well coached (i.e. nobody frantically looking to the sidelines just before ball snap)…The football culture at Ga is shameful in comparison…is that my fault as a fan for noticing?

Seems like EVERY DAY there’s some blog story about Richt and Georgia, followed by a dozen or so pages of comments. It’s really about time for the Bulldogs and all their DRAMA to GO AWAY!
Georgia, you’re now playing for a midle-tier bowl game.
No SEC East title. No trip to Atlanta. Certainly no BCS Bowl.
We no longer care what happens to Richt coaching-wise or whomever you may want to replace him with.
Sorry, but this SAD little story has become quite BORING!

Richt has had #1 pick quarterbacks, first round NFL draft backs and receivers. Richt’s problem isn’t lack of luck with talent…quite the opposite. Richt has been lucky to have the talent he has.
I’m sure Richt is a nice guy and a good coach, but he’s not in the category of coaches who brought NC trophies back to their schools even when they didn’t have first-round NFL talent.

Several of us are wondering if Richt truly hasn’t lost control of this team. The discipline just doesn’t appear to be in place. Georgia makes a first down and the players are juking around and high fiving themselves like they did something…but were two touchdowns behind. At some point this GA. team needs to start dancing on their opponents head and smashing some mouths instead of running theirs. The play calling truly sucks by the way….

@Joey you are probably one of the fools im referring to! A idiot with an opinion that has never played the game nor seen the inside of a film room! I dont care if at some point they quit makinig mental mistakes and mature into an NFL player…thats was not the point of what I posted! So ill break in down in dummy form since you cant seem to get it in any other form. When players/coaches review the film from game day, each position and player recieves a grade on each play! Often times one or more players makes mental mistakes that cause plays to fail or allows the other teams play to succeed! When the game is broken down by the average stupid, such as urself, they wont look at the mistakes made by players because that takes too much knowledge of the game! Therefore they blame the overall failure on the coaches whom often has called the perfect play to combat what the opponent is trying to do! This has nothing to do with players making it to the NFL idiot! And for all those 4 & 5 star recruits yall get it should be alot more mutts goin!

Everyone knows that the last three years his bulldogs have not been as competitive as his previous seven years in college coaching. That being said, i think that although Richts COLLEGE WINNING PERCENTAGE COACHING RECORD IS AN UNGODLY over .700%, which is completely unheard of, the only way that Richt will ever gain back his fan support and get the respect that he deserves is for him to lead his georgia bulldog team to a national title. OK we lost the first game and we are 0-1. But lets say georgia wins the remaining games and finishes 13-1, winning the national championship. Then Richt will re-gain the respect and glory that he once had. He is the same person, but a brighter more sharper mind than he had when he first came into coaching. Richt is also a very talented coach. Lets hope he can finish this year with a blaze of glory, coach with both guns blazing and lead georgia to puting up a BCS championship banner as yet another notch on his belt, SOMETHING THE GUY DESERVES AND SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN YEARS AGO. Also, if Richt is the Jimmy Carter of coaching, then Barrack Obama is the Jimmy Carter of modern day presidents.

When USC wins, the nation will finally start to respect USC.
I can’t believe how much publicity USC is getting this year; it has been over the top and we love it. USC is stepping out from under the rocks that have been piled on us and Spurrier is leading us to the promised land. when you are thinking of richt horrible bad luck, think of all the recruits who signed a letter of intent to play at georgia who were #1 all-american, blue-chippers who changed their mind at the last minute before the season began to play instead with either Florida, Oklahoma or Florida State. Richt has missed out on a bunch of players who lied to him and said they were committed to play at Georgia, just to change their minds later right before signing day or prior to the start of the opening game. MARK RICHT HAS HAD ALMOST AS MUCH BAD LUCK AS HIS FORMER QUARTERBACK D.J. SHOCKLEY.

There should be nothing but PRAISE for Richt. Look how many players Richt has had who have gotten arrested by the law and ended up in jail. A WHOLE BUNCH OF GEORGIA PLAYERS HAVE GONE THAT ROUTE. Chicken Lips, just got off of Garnet and Black–was reading what they thought of our offense: basically, they think you will kill us–I mean seriously, we don’t stand a chance. According to them, your line is among the best in the nation, far better than Boise’s, and our offensive line couldn’t even block Boise little players. Also, we don’t have anything to replace Green and Durham…read, our receivers stink. Finally, Crowell didn’t look to good to them. It could happen. We’ll see. (they weren’t ugly, they just think you will blow us out on both sides of the ball). I’m thinking they would guess 48-7, or some lopsided score, but I didn’t see one mentioned. If SOS can beat us by >40 Saturday, it could be a long season for CMR and UGA. Go Dawgs anyway. See you Saturday!

When UGA fans speak disparingly of Ole Miss and Miss. State, they should remember that Miss. has about one fourth the population of Ga. and that their colleges have to compete with UA and LSU, both less than fifty miles from their border, not to mention Auburn and UT and that other Miss school USM, which the only is the only college to ever beat both Auburn and UA in the same season. No Miss coach ever made half of what that great man of Athens makes. Know personally a lot of fine assistants who have been around the league and they speak openly of Richt being such a tight wad with his assistants doing his first six years, meaning those who served him well, but he didn’t appreciate what they contributed to his success so they left, even though they loved Athens and didn’t want to uproot families. My problem with friend Friend when he was hired is that no one else was even considered for the job and that he spent five years as grad asst. without obtaining a MS degree–three years at UA and three at UGA Let’s not hear that no one else wanted the job.. FACT__ Even though friend Friend makes less than half of what CSS made at UGA, more capable and more experienced OL coaches applied but were not considered because friend Friend was BObo’s phone buddy. For the sake of the players, let us hope that he does better.

THAT WAS MY WHOLE POINT!! Because of the fact that Richt’s MAJOR TALENT was behind prison bars most of the time, this is why Richt’s team kept losing to Florida all those years and Richt couldnt guide his georgia teams to the BCS national championship. Its not Richt’s fault that those guys fell off the STRAIGHT-AND-NARROW. All I can say is this. MARK RICHT IS THE FIFTH BEST COACH IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY BEHIND ONLY: Paul “Bear” Bryant, Joe Paterno, Steve Spurrier and Bobby Bowden. PERIOD. END OF STORY. MARK RICHT SHOULD BE ENSHRINED IN COLLEGE COACHES HALL-OF-FAME for being the fifth greatest college coach of all times. Hopefully in the next 10 years Richts teams will win BCS titles to back up my claim.

Remember when UA is beating up on Penn State tomorrow that Joe Paterno recently received a raise from $500,000 a year to $800,000 a year and ask yourself if CMR is worth about five times as much as the 85 yearold JoPA–the same Joe who turned down opportunities to coach pro teams and who has donated as much to the Penn State library and scholarship funds as PENN State paid him in his sixty five years of coaching there. The donations were money earned through his book sales and speaking tours and investments. Go, JOE.

Coach Richt’s patience may be ‘wearing thin’, but so is his welcome as UGA’s head football coach.
The intellectual ablility of Georgia’s coaches to make game adjustments and make the most advantageous decisions in play calling is in serious doubt. He’s been “out-coached” by every one of his opponents in the last two, if not three years…even when his team wins. Intellectual competence of the coaching staff is the central issue in the poor performance by poorly prepared Georgia teams.
Coach Richt is going to have to re-double his efforts at preparation and game strategy. The product he has fielded for the last two years has been enormously “inferior”. It’s hopeful that he will do much better in the games ahead, but if he can’[t, his final game at Georgia will be in November against Georgia Tech. We hope he can make it.

Right on the money James. Mark Richt has always been satisfied with “another pretty good season” and that is the best that UGA fans will get out of Richt. Just wondering why we have Murray at QB??… He just doesn’t seem be a durable player like most SEC QB’s… Reminds me alot of the pocket passers in the old FSU days without durability……
Seems he gives up alot of points too with interceptions and fumbles… Maybe I’m wrong, but I don’t think he’s an SEC caliber QB and it shows….
