Free safety Bacarri Rambo expressed remorse for what he called “a big mistake” and said he believes he could made a difference against Boise State last Saturday.
Rambo, the Bulldogs’ leading returning tackler, was reinstated this week after a one-game suspension for an unspecified team rules violations and is expected to start against South Carolina on Saturday.
“It messed up our team goals having to sit out that one game,” said Rambo, speaking to reporters for the first time since last spring. “I’m not going to say we could have won if I would’ve played. But I want to help the team as much as I can and the results of the game probably would’ve been different. That was a big mistake and I learned from it.”
Rambo would not say what infraction led to his suspension or exactly when it occurred. “I’d rather y’all ask Coach Richt,” he said.
Rambo traveled with the Bulldogs to Atlanta and was allowed to dress out for the game. That, in itself, was like a punishment.
“It was very tough” said Rambo, who started all 13 games a year ago. “I’m not used to sitting on the sideline, especially knowing I’m supposed to be starting. It’s very tough to see my guys out there playing and knowing I should be out there helping them, helping them communicate and fly to the ball, helping make plays, helping my team. It was very tough.
A powerful lesson was learned, he said.
“I broke a team rule,” Rambo said. “It was selfish mistake. I will not allow it to happen any more. I learned from that mistake. It was a big mistake. It didn’t affect just me, it affected the team because I couldn’t play and I’m not going to allow it to happen again.”
Dallas Lee to start at guard
Dallas Lee will get the first start of his career at left guard this Saturday. Richt indicated that might have been the case even if Kenarious Gates had not been injured.
“We thought he did real well,” Richt said of the sophomore from Buford, who took over when Gates left the game with a sprained ankle in the second quarter. “He might have played better than any of the guards as we graded it out. So whether Kenarious was healthy or not, he wouid have had a very good chance . . . of starting this week.”
Gates was held out of practice on Tuesday but is expected to be available Saturday.
O-line problems ‘correctable’
Georgia gave up six sacks to the Broncos and averaged fewer than 1.9 yards per carry on rushing attempts by the tailbacks. But Richt insists the Bulldogs’ poor line play can be rectified before facing South Carolina’s formidable defensive front.
“Everything is correctable,” Richt said. “The thing that was the most disappointing to me was the pass protection, especially third down. . . . Six sacks are way too many and the majority of the issues were on third down. We’ve already spent a lot of time making corrections in pass protection.”
Samuel to linebacker was considered
Richt said he briefly considered moving tailback Richard Samuel back to linebacker in the wake of the injury to Alec Ogletree. Samuel was Ogletree’s backup at “Mo” linebacker before backfield attrition forced the Bulldogs to switch Samuel back to offense, where he played his first two seasons.
“I thought about it kind of just laying on the pillow at night,” Richt said. “But by the time Richard got back and trained up and really ready to play, ‘Tree’ would probably be back and be healthy and ready to go. We’ve had 29 preseason practices plus last week, so we have over 30 practices with these other kids.”
Ogletree is out at least four weeks with a broken foot. Michael Gilliard, Amarlo Herrera and Jeremy Sulek are competing to start alongside Christian Robinson. Linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti said the Bulldogs are also exploring other options.
“There’s a million different things we could do,” he said, declining to elaborate.
Jarvis Jones to inside ‘backer not considered
The Bulldogs gave little to no thought of moving Jarvis Jones from outside linebacker to inside linebacker. Jones was playing inside linebacker before the Bulldogs moved Ogletree to the position from strong safety. But Jones has been flourishing at “Sam” linebacker. He had 11 tackles, including 2½ for losses, in the opener.
“Jarvis is just doing so well where he is,” Richt said. “He’s locked in and playing fast and playing very physical. . . . He played great. He played like a guy who hadn’t played for a year and half and couldn’t wait to hit somebody again. He played with a lot of energy and got after it.”
Sticking with no-huddle
Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said the Bulldogs plan to stick with the no-huddle offense they unveiled in the Georgia Dome. He said the decision to switch in the offseason was an attempt to run more offensive plays. But the Bulldogs ran just 60 plays last Saturday to Boise State’s 71.
“We wanted to get more plays, which we didn’t do on Satuday,” Bobo said. “But we’re committed to doing it. More plays equals more opportunities, more chances to score. Last year we just didn’t think we had as many opportunities as some other teams.”
The no-huddle was not to blame for the offensive struggles, the Bulldogs contend.
“No matter how you operate offensively, the bottom like is you’ve got to execute,” Richt said. “And you execute well whether you no-huddle or you don’t no huddle. We didn’t have much trouble as far as the operation of it. The problem was once the ball was snapped. That’s when we had problems.”
Etc. . . .
Nose guard Kwame Geathers did not practice for the second straight day due to a neck injury. Richt expects him to play Saturday, however. . . . Freshman Malcolm Mitchell had “another great practice,” Bobo said. Look for him to play extensively against South Carolina. . . . A limited number of tickets remain on sale for Georgia’s home game against Coast Carolina (Sept. 17). They’re $45 each. Call 1-877-542-1231. . . . Georgia is holding a pep rally – they’re calling it a “Red Rally” – Friday night at Sanford Stadium. The Georgia Redcoat Band and cheerleaders will be in attendance and the Bulldogs will “show off” their new 2,000-square-foot-plus video board. . . . Here’s a link to video of some of Tuesday’s practice and some interviews from DawgTime.com.

However, the stats for this QB say to me-RUN PLAY ACTION

Maybe we need to give Hutson Mason a shot at this? He ran the spread in high school.
If we don’t block any better than we did last week, my prediction of SC 28 UGA 20 will be a pipe dream. They will beat us by 3 TD’s.

Who thinks Bobo can watch Carolina film this week and come up with a game plan or plays to exploit what weaknesses they may have on Defense ( like Boise did to us). Anyone? We certainly won’t out muscle them.

UGA has been in the top 6 most profitable programs in D1 in the last 5 years. There is absolutely NO REASON not to hire the best coaches possible. I agree with promoting from within, but when you rake in the kind of money UGA does & you promote your defensive backs coach to D-Cord, promote the QB coach to Offensive Cord, & promote your video coordinator to Strength & Cond coach, there might be a problem. The only reason Martinez is gone from the D-Cord job is because Richt’s hand was forced by Evans. Magarity gave Richt every chance to fix this at the end of last season & the only thing Richt did was more of the same by promoting the video cord. UGA has lost more games in the last year than in RIchts previous 5 years. There’s is something terribly wrong with the UGA football program, and when you get to a certain point making a change can’t dig you any deeper. Sorry if you’re too blind to see this.

JB, I wish Mark Richt would actually put twitter to good use and set up an account for Mike Bobo where the fans can tweet what play he should run. It would be fun and we would probably have a more productive offense.
Maybe, he could set up a private account and just get a bunch of high powered High School offensive minds to sign up and give advice throughout the game. It wouldn’t be worse than what we are seeing.

Looking at the Carolina Message boards last night, they are nervous. One guy said we’ve only beaten Georgia like once in 20 years over there, and that’s with their good teams and not so good teams. One guy stated that their roster is full of talent and I hope they don’t get it together with us. They hope this IS the year for them, so they are really anxious to say the least.

Hate to disappoint Rambo, but he is no difference maker. The guy was running away from contact against Lattimore last year late in the 3rd qtr. This guy hasn’t made a play since he got knocked out in the Auburn game 2 years ago. If he is the best option UGA has at safety, then Lattimore will get 200 yards Saturday. It is sad that UGA’s only hope of slowing down Lattiomore has broken his foot and want play. This thing will get ugly very quickly saturday. One other note, UGA’s biggest recruits from last year’s class have all been huge disappointments so far. Jenkins, and Drew have done nothing, and I.C. really hasn’t had a chance with the poor O.L. play. When u compare Drew who was the #1 weakside d.e. to Clowney who was the #1 srongside d.e., it isn’t even close. Drew should have his hand in the dirt, but our brilliant coaches have him at O.L. where he has no chance in space against the much smaller backs. These coaches will ruin another great talent, just like they ruined, R.S, Brandon Miller, T.J. Stripling, the list goes on and on. McGarity needs to stop this trend asap. There is nothing that this coaching staff has done to make him think they can turn this thing around. McGarity once said each day you put off making a change that you know must be made, adds just one more day to getting things corrected. Not sure what he is waiting on, the fan base has turned on Richt and the program, and there is nothing good that will come out of putting off the inevitable. Sad time to be a UGA fan.

Lets just run Big #6 between the tackles on every first down. That way we can start with 2nd and 7 at worst…I figure he could at least push our tackles forward that far.
On the first series though, we should run #6 straight at Clowney every down. Punish him on the first 3 plays and punt. Look at it this way…It beats going backwards with penalties. And it sure beats ‘The Mike Bobo 3 And Out Special’: Throw deep incomplete on 1st down. 2nd and 10 draw play from shotgun for -5 yards. Then a sack on 3rd down because the routes all take 8 seconds and our line can block for 3 seconds.

Tobias, because that worn out, out dated play book Bobo uses with the faded FSU logo on it says to. There is no thinking on offense by Bobo to exploit what the defense is showing us. He looks at down and distance and field position and calls his play.

louder than words. Let’s hope its flaws are
corrected in time for the SC game.
The offensive play calling was too predictable.
Bobo needs to mix things up,or Richt should get
more involved in the play calling.
The secondary was out of position on critical plays.
It doesn’t matter how fast you can run, when you
don’t know where you are supposed to be. Georgia

Historian… your user name suggests that you understand the past but not necessarily the future. However, in this case, probably neither. In case you haven’t been reading the newspaper or internet lately, the state of Georgia no longer relies on cotton but instead a diverse services oriented economic base. Since I don’t like to cast insult upon injury, let’s just say that Georgia has fared well in the last 50 years compared to many of your brethern up north.
UGA, UNC, UVA and other southern state universities excel in academic ratings for public state universities. I can’t say I’ve heard much about Boise State but please enlighten us if I’m missing something.
Based on the content of your comments, you seem a little embittered. Maybe, you should stop fighting a war that was settled over 100 years ago and move on. We have.

I saw in another article where the crowd noise affected the cadence with the nohuddle on the opening drive. Richt is asking that we yell when SC has it and not when we do. That makes sense, but why did we elect to receive last week?
Surely, a reasonable coaching staff should have anticipated all the noise and excitement. Why didn’t we have a better way to communicate or go with a huddle until the noise settled?

The question I have for Bobo is, whether he thinks he could be a little innovative this week and actually adjust to the flow of the game. If he doesn’t, UGA’s offense will remain stagnant and the defense will look bad because they are out there more than the offense. Use your players athletic abilities and if spomething is working, make the other team stop it. Moore proved how that goes with about 6 dink passes in a row that moved Boise right down the field. We didn’t have an answer so yes, the DC needs to react faster as well. We are just getting out coached all around, and as much as I like CMR the man, as a CEO, he needs to improve quickly or say good bye. A lot of fans have already lost faith in the program, and if the players start losing faith, like they did last year, it is going to be a long year for the DAWGS once again.
