Free safety Bacarri Rambo expressed remorse for what he called “a big mistake” and said he believes he could made a difference against Boise State last Saturday.
Rambo, the Bulldogs’ leading returning tackler, was reinstated this week after a one-game suspension for an unspecified team rules violations and is expected to start against South Carolina on Saturday.
“It messed up our team goals having to sit out that one game,” said Rambo, speaking to reporters for the first time since last spring. “I’m not going to say we could have won if I would’ve played. But I want to help the team as much as I can and the results of the game probably would’ve been different. That was a big mistake and I learned from it.”
Rambo would not say what infraction led to his suspension or exactly when it occurred. “I’d rather y’all ask Coach Richt,” he said.
Rambo traveled with the Bulldogs to Atlanta and was allowed to dress out for the game. That, in itself, was like a punishment.
“It was very tough” said Rambo, who started all 13 games a year ago. “I’m not used to sitting on the sideline, especially knowing I’m supposed to be starting. It’s very tough to see my guys out there playing and knowing I should be out there helping them, helping them communicate and fly to the ball, helping make plays, helping my team. It was very tough.
A powerful lesson was learned, he said.
“I broke a team rule,” Rambo said. “It was selfish mistake. I will not allow it to happen any more. I learned from that mistake. It was a big mistake. It didn’t affect just me, it affected the team because I couldn’t play and I’m not going to allow it to happen again.”
Dallas Lee to start at guard
Dallas Lee will get the first start of his career at left guard this Saturday. Richt indicated that might have been the case even if Kenarious Gates had not been injured.
“We thought he did real well,” Richt said of the sophomore from Buford, who took over when Gates left the game with a sprained ankle in the second quarter. “He might have played better than any of the guards as we graded it out. So whether Kenarious was healthy or not, he wouid have had a very good chance . . . of starting this week.”
Gates was held out of practice on Tuesday but is expected to be available Saturday.
O-line problems ‘correctable’
Georgia gave up six sacks to the Broncos and averaged fewer than 1.9 yards per carry on rushing attempts by the tailbacks. But Richt insists the Bulldogs’ poor line play can be rectified before facing South Carolina’s formidable defensive front.
“Everything is correctable,” Richt said. “The thing that was the most disappointing to me was the pass protection, especially third down. . . . Six sacks are way too many and the majority of the issues were on third down. We’ve already spent a lot of time making corrections in pass protection.”
Samuel to linebacker was considered
Richt said he briefly considered moving tailback Richard Samuel back to linebacker in the wake of the injury to Alec Ogletree. Samuel was Ogletree’s backup at “Mo” linebacker before backfield attrition forced the Bulldogs to switch Samuel back to offense, where he played his first two seasons.
“I thought about it kind of just laying on the pillow at night,” Richt said. “But by the time Richard got back and trained up and really ready to play, ‘Tree’ would probably be back and be healthy and ready to go. We’ve had 29 preseason practices plus last week, so we have over 30 practices with these other kids.”
Ogletree is out at least four weeks with a broken foot. Michael Gilliard, Amarlo Herrera and Jeremy Sulek are competing to start alongside Christian Robinson. Linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti said the Bulldogs are also exploring other options.
“There’s a million different things we could do,” he said, declining to elaborate.
Jarvis Jones to inside ‘backer not considered
The Bulldogs gave little to no thought of moving Jarvis Jones from outside linebacker to inside linebacker. Jones was playing inside linebacker before the Bulldogs moved Ogletree to the position from strong safety. But Jones has been flourishing at “Sam” linebacker. He had 11 tackles, including 2½ for losses, in the opener.
“Jarvis is just doing so well where he is,” Richt said. “He’s locked in and playing fast and playing very physical. . . . He played great. He played like a guy who hadn’t played for a year and half and couldn’t wait to hit somebody again. He played with a lot of energy and got after it.”
Sticking with no-huddle
Georgia offensive coordinator Mike Bobo said the Bulldogs plan to stick with the no-huddle offense they unveiled in the Georgia Dome. He said the decision to switch in the offseason was an attempt to run more offensive plays. But the Bulldogs ran just 60 plays last Saturday to Boise State’s 71.
“We wanted to get more plays, which we didn’t do on Satuday,” Bobo said. “But we’re committed to doing it. More plays equals more opportunities, more chances to score. Last year we just didn’t think we had as many opportunities as some other teams.”
The no-huddle was not to blame for the offensive struggles, the Bulldogs contend.
“No matter how you operate offensively, the bottom like is you’ve got to execute,” Richt said. “And you execute well whether you no-huddle or you don’t no huddle. We didn’t have much trouble as far as the operation of it. The problem was once the ball was snapped. That’s when we had problems.”
Etc. . . .
Nose guard Kwame Geathers did not practice for the second straight day due to a neck injury. Richt expects him to play Saturday, however. . . . Freshman Malcolm Mitchell had “another great practice,” Bobo said. Look for him to play extensively against South Carolina. . . . A limited number of tickets remain on sale for Georgia’s home game against Coast Carolina (Sept. 17). They’re $45 each. Call 1-877-542-1231. . . . Georgia is holding a pep rally – they’re calling it a “Red Rally” – Friday night at Sanford Stadium. The Georgia Redcoat Band and cheerleaders will be in attendance and the Bulldogs will “show off” their new 2,000-square-foot-plus video board. . . . Here’s a link to video of some of Tuesday’s practice and some interviews from DawgTime.com.

I have to admit I am having a hard time believing that the problems on offensive line are that easily correctable in 6 days when very little seems to have been accomplished in 8 months. I undertand that Boise was supposed to have a good D line, but I think SC will be a tougher front.
What is the over under on how many times Boykin will run the ball out of the back of the endzone on a kickoff and get stuffed inside the 15?

I’m looking forward to seeing if we can manage the following:
1.) Can we make it through warmups without cramping up. This time we aren’t playing in the air conditioning so this is a concern.
2.). Can we lower the number of penalties on our first offensive drive from 3 to 2?
3.) Will we run a QB sneak or a run pass option for Murray?
4.) Will 1/3 of our offensive plays be sprint draws? (Do you think South Carolina is preparing for the sprint draw this week?)
5.) Can we keep Garcia and Shaw to a completion percentage under 80?
6.) Can we get our first sack of the season?
7.) Can we keep Clowney under six sacks by himself in this game?
8.) Do we have a 4th down play ready that includes blocking assingments for all the defenders on the line of scrimmage?
9.) How many times will we throw deep on first down and when it is 2nd and 10 run up the middle?
10.) Can we keep our helmets from flying off fewer than 12 times?

One of the worst games I’ve ever watched. Positively pitiful. And please burn those dorky uniforms as soon as possible. We’re the Georgia Bulldogs, not the Power Rangers. I said before kickoff, Dawgs needed to win BOTH of their first two games, or the season’s over. We’re already halfway to the bottom. It’s now or never Dawgs. Win big Saturday, or the CMR era is over.

Bacari Rambo is a confident individual. Mark Richt has got to see the light on how to practice. Out of shape is his responsibility not the S and C coach. You practice like you play and vice versa. Offensive play calling was horrible. The shotgun run approach is not going to work. The I formation is what we need. Blast the ball, run sweeps and in general just pound it in there. Even if we have to punt after three plays, this will tire out the SC defense. Throw short passes. We don’t have time for long ones. One long pass to every 5-6 short ones. No sprint draws, no hand offs from the shotgun. And Historian you can kiss my A$$. What do you know?

The obvious reason the sacks happeed on third down plays is that in every case the defense knew we were going too pass because we did not gain enough yards on the first 2 downs and the defense was in a position to rush the passer. I think the shotgun formation UGA is using is a tip off in certain down situations and the tailbacks have to wait for the handoff and do not have enough speed and power to hit the hole fast enough nor is the formation suitable for end sweeps or quick tosses which means most ruining plays are off tackle or up the middle except for the end around.

Can someone please explain to Bobo that the ONLY way you get to run more plays is if you make first downs – in succession? It’s not whether you huddle or not, its what you do with the ball after the snap. He sounds like an author worrying about the dust jacket on the book he’s writing when he can’t even string two coherent sentences together.

O-line HAS to put a rush on Garcia and secondary bottle up their receivers. If that doesn’t happen, school is out! I’m looking for some adjustments from last week and I believe they will be there. A game of experience, shaking out the jitters, will help the DAWGS to be better ready for this one. The “hurry up” offense is quite a drastic change, puts a lot of pressure on the DAWGS offense as well as the other team’s defense. If you forget what to do after the ball is snapped, it’s all for naught. Hey, Bobo, how much “hurry up” did you do when you were playing???? This is something you don’t see very often. It does create a lot of “wear and tear” and it didn’t fool Boise one bit. Just settle down and play good ole rock’em sock’em hard nosed football. All that Tereshinski muscleing up should create results! GO DAWGS!!!

“Last year we just didn’t think we had as many opportunities as some other teams.”
He is a complete idiot. You get more opportunities than your opponent by getting first downs. It doesn’t matter how slowly you get to the line. Hurry up is to wear out your opponent and move fast…. if you make first downs. If you don’t, you give the ball quickly back to your opponents and wear down your defense.

Running a “no huddle” offense when you are not moving the ball down field simply is a recipe for disaster. Why? Because if you consistently go three and out using “no huddle”, you will continually put the defense on the field and they will wear down. Just as they did against Boise St.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; the Georgia defense’s biggest problem is the Georgia offense.

Also the No huddle offense
To the poster who said it does allow you more plays….
Really? Lets see follow the math… you have a quick strike drive where your T.O.P is at 2:00 then hold the opponent to a three and out, thus getting the ball back quicker…As opposed to a plundering drive of 5-6 minutes and then forcing three and outs. If you are successful at this you will run more plays. Simple math really.
@DMR
If you are struggling on offense switching to the No Huddle is commonly done to try and generate a rthym on offense. It is not new approach to the game of football. If it was would CMR have thought of it? lets be real here.

It’s common knowledge and an unquestioned fact that UGA head football coach Mark Richt has brought shame on the state of Georgia and made an embarrassing laughingstock of the state’s largest university. Even the most avid UGA fans understand this even when they won’t acknowledge it, bless their hearts.
The most embarrassing thing is the win-at-any-price mentality of Richt, which has effectively made UGA a football factory, with cheating, recruiting of low-intelligence jerks who barely graduated from high school, and tolerating immoral and unethical activities by both players and coaches. Even with all this, he still can’t win.
Richt is a product of the lawless environments of the University of Miami and Florida State University, where he learned well how to conduct himself in the most tawdry way, while pretending to the world to be a saint. Make no mistake – Richt is in coaching purely for the millions of dollars that have been wasted on him, and the millions more he will add until someone in Athens has the integrity and intestinal fortitude to run him out of town.
A truly shameful situation, especially since all Georgians, including UGA alumni and fans, have to live under this shadow of infamy.
