Rewind: Richt says Dogs likely to stick with TB rotation of Samuel, then Crowell

MONDAY MORNING REWIND

Happy Labor Day everyone. Glad to see some rain coming our way. God knows we need it.

Not sure how much it will help the Georgia Bulldogs, however. After watching Saturday night’s debacle against Boise State, it’s clear they need all the practice they can get before No. 12 South Carolina comes rolling into Athens next weekend. The last thing they need is a bunch of thunderstorms to chase them inside.

Welcome to the “Monday Morning Rewind.” This will be regular feature during the season. It’s nothing fancy, just a forum to make sure you get a chance to see everything we’ve got on football coverage. We’ll offer some fresh news, notes and quotes along with links to the latest versions of stories we’ve written over the weekend and a few from elsewhere. So let’s get to it. . . .

THE MAIN THING

Head coach Mark Richt held his weekly teleconference on Sunday. As expected, the news was not good on linebacker Alec Ogletree: Broken foot, surgery on Monday, out four to six weeks.

My story for print was on this development and how it affects Georgia’s attempts to contain South Carolina tailback Marcus Lattimore this time around. I also do a formatted review/preview box called “UGA Rewind” for the print section every Monday. Click HERE to check it out.

I wasn’t able to fit in this comment from Richt about Ogletree, who had been one of the Bulldogs’ stars in preseason camp:

“I’ve texted him a little bit but did not talk to him today. His family is in town in preparation for the surgery tomorrow. I’m sure he’s hurt. He’s crushed right now because he loves to play the game and he was really playing outstanding football . He played inspired football and our defense really came out ready to play and had a lot of great energy and enthusiasm and had a lot of big hits early on. He was a big part of that.”

Ogletree reached out to Georgia fans via Facebook on Sunday night:

“Thanks for all the support from everyone. I will continue to fight and get well. As for the team we are on a mission and it is about to begin. God has a plan for us so lets keep working hard and show up next week when the cocks roll in.” #9

FIVE MORE THINGS

1. Richt isn’t planning any changes in the tailback rotation for the South Carolina game. That is, junior Richard Samuel will again get the start over freshman Isaiah Crowell, who was clearly the better runner with 60 yards on 15 carries (4.0 average). Samuel had 12 yards on seven carries but apparently was better with other aspects of playing the position.

“Probably not,” Richt said to changing starters. “But we’ll keep competing and keep getting better. There’s some things understandably that Isaiah has to get better at in the protection area., just knowing who to block and how to get it done. I thought he was eager to block and he did make some very nice blocks. There were a couople of times he missed an assignment here or there. But Richard needs reps, too. He didn’t practice a lot at the end [of preseason camp]. A linebacker blitzed a couple of times while we were blocking them with the tailback position and they didn’t make the sack but we weren’t really outstanding in our protection fundamentals. We’ve just got to keep working at it.”

Junior Carlton Thomas returns this week as well. Thomas, Georgia’s third-string tailback last season, missed the opener due to a disciplinary suspension.

2. Bacarri Rambo, as Richt confirmed AFTER Saturday’s game, was indeed suspended after all. And Richt speculated that the junior from Donalsonville, probably would return to the starting lineup at free safety. He started all 13 games there last season.

“Yeah, I think we would” Richt said of Rambo starting. “I say that but I guess I shouldn’t be premature on that. I’d have to talk to Coach [Scott] Lakatose and see if it’s a slam dunk. But Bacarri’s going to play, that’s for sure.”

3. Richt expects starting left guard Kenarious Gates to return this week from an ankle injury that sidelined him for the entire second half against Boise. Redshirt sophomore Dallas Lee of Buford, the only other lineman with previous game experience, filled in admirably in Gates’ absence and will continue to play a big role.

4. Richt wasn’t necessarily anticipating a lineup change at split end, where junior Tavarres King struggled on Saturday. King, expected to be the Bulldogs’ main target among wideouts, dropped two passes and finished with one catch for three yards.

“The bottom like is we’ve still got a lot of faith in Tavarres,” Richt said. “But everybody at that position especially is talented and we think can make plays. So we’re going to compete and see who’s going to start. But all those guys are going to play and we just need to let them play. ”

Richt praised freshman Malcolm Mitchell, who finished with 64 yards on three catches and scored on 51-yard catch-and-run. He said they’ll continue look to get him the football.

5. Richt was still majorly annoyed with the play of the offensive line, which allowed six quarterback sacks and even more hurries and pressures. They didn’t run block particularly well either, all of which helped them to a 2-for-13 third-down conversion rate.

“Third down is your position down,” he said. “That’s where you’ve got to make your first downs and keep your drives going and put yourself in field goal range or give yourself a chance to score touchdowns. I just felt like we didn’t do a good job in that area. Even when got the ball off I still thought he was getting there were a lot of times people were breathing down his neck and hitting him after he cut the ball loose. . . . We’ve got to get better. . . . If you look at it from an overall offensive point of view, that was probably the thing that was the most troublesome to me.”

FROM THE OTHER SIDELINE

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier also held his weekly teleconference on Sunday. The Gamecocks — after trailing 17-0 early — defeated East Carolina 56-37 in their opener played in Charlotte. Gainesville’s Connor Shaw started the game at quarterback but was relieved by the often-troubled-but-never-sidelined Stephen Garcia, who rallied them to victory.

Spurrier was pretty funny when asked Sunday about Richt’s well-being in light of Georgia losing 13 of its last 27 games.

“You know, I’ve got enough problems down here. I don’t think Coach Richt needs me to worry about him. I was worried about my job at halftime last night. How about that?”

Spurrier resisted any urge he might have had to needle Georgia for losing to Boise State 35-21.

“Georgia is still a very good team,” he said. “They just didn’t play their best. It wouldn’t surprise me if they weren’t favored over us this week. They are a very good team. They are very capable of doing some big things this year.”

Spurrier was more impressed with Boise State and their Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback Kellen Moore.

“That quarterback is very good. He throws that ball like he’s got a baseball in his hand. He’s got a real quick release and he just flicks it here and flicks it there. He knows where everybody is. He’s hard to sack. He’s just really a good player. You just have to admire watching those guys play. I love watching them play because they block, they tackle well, they play fundamentals, they are just about always in position, they don’t do stupid things. They just play the game the way you are supposed to. I may vote them No. 1 in the country after watching them beat Georgia . . . Maybe after watching Boise Staet play all week will allow our guys to see how you’re supposed to play this game.”

Here’s a game story in the Anderson Independent that provides some details on the Gamecocks’ win over East Carolina.

COMPLETE GAME WRAPUP

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING

A reminder that these players are tuned in to what people say and write about them. Here is a message sophomore linebacker Jarvis Jones posted on Facebook on Sunday:

“As I read some of the sport blogs, I see a many of the so-called Bulldawg fan comments. A lot of you all are some of the most un-loyal fans I’ve ever witnessed. If you want to trash us, don’t support us. Those who are loyal and willing to fight to the end with us will, we’re thankful for them. This from the heart. I dont care if you dont like it or me. My team is very passionate about what we do and we’re going to continue to fight.” — JJ #29

The defining moment for Richt’s demise was the WVA Sugar Bowl loss. I certainly haven’t seen anything during the past four seasons that gives me hope that he’s turned things around…just the contrary, and I’m fed up with his excuses. Fire him now and get started rebuilding for the future. Why wait to see if he can beat a team (SC) that we have always dominated?

Why is it that every time Richt gives a press conference he doesn’t seem to know the details of the whole picture of the team? He’s always saying “well I’ll have to check with (insert assistant coach’s name)…. I just wonder how connected he is with this team.

Did you A.H. not see how many 5th year seniors Boise had? How many does UGA have? This comes from getting all these 4 % 5 star players. They don’t stay in school 5 years. A 23 or 24 year old MAN ( who has been in training with the same people and system for 5 years) has the advantage over a 17 & 18 year old kids 9 times out of 10. Think about where you were at 18. Just saw this in a Gainsville newspaper, this is why we need to start over. Richt and his merry band of sorry coaches can’t beat these guys. The truth hurts!

NFL coaching experience driving force for UF recruiting
Colin Thompson will never forget sitting in a meeting during his visit to the University of Florida when the entire football coaching staff introduced themselves to the touted tight end prospect. Thompson, the No. 1-rated pro-style tight end prospect in the nation, gave his verbal commitment in May and expects to be part of a very impressive Gator Class of 2012.

One by one they listed their NFL credentials …
Head coach Will Muschamp — 2005 assistant head coach for defense, Miami Dolphins.

Offensive coordinator Charlie Weis — 16 seasons as an NFL coach, four Super Bowl rings.

Defensive coordinator Dan Quinn — defensive line coach for the Seattle Seahawks, New York Jets, Miami Dolphins and San Francisco 49ers
.
Defensive line coach Bryant Young — 14-year player, four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner with the San Francisco 49ers.

Offensive line coach Frank Verducci — assistant coach with four NFL teams over eight seasons.

“Just incredible,” Thompson said. “But then I hear, ‘Tight ends coach Derek Lewis, national championship, Texas Longhorns, starting tight end for the St. Louis Rams, won a Super Bowl.’ Just crazy things, and I’m thinking, ‘This is my tight ends coach. This is great.’ A lot of tight end coaches that you meet around the country, they didn’t play the position. So when I met Coach Lewis, that was a turn-on for me — the coach’s experience at my own position. That’s great.
“Every player has aspirations to go play at the next level.”
Florida’s coaching staff was constructed by Muschamp for just that reason — to win games in college and prepare athletes for the NFL.
It’s turning out to have an irresistible appeal to elite high school talent.

OK, I have one quick question for dawgnation. Anyone else really tired of feeling the same way every Sunday after the Saturday of a big game? I really want CMR to succeed, but I have finally gotten VERY close to getting on the “time-for-a-change” bandwagon. We were totally out-coached and out-classed on Saturday night. When you look at the caliber of recruits/athletes on each team, then you have to think that what happened Saturday night was inexcusable (rankings not withstanding). Now, I am really hoping for a win on Saturday in Athens, but I am quite tired of getting up for games and coming away SO disappointed SO often. However, as always…………..GO DAWGS!!!

God, You think reading this first page of the blog that Georgia lost to New Mexico. People this is Boise State a #5 ranked team that has beat OU, OREGON, GEORGIA, TCU, VIRGINIA TECH and wins consistently. If you don’t want to accept there good that’s a you problem, but if this was LSU, BAMA, or OU, people would be saying UGA is improving. You maggot fans get a life, love them or leave them but don’t you dare look down on them!

Last year the national media really rallied behind Richt from most of what I read, this year it’s starting off much different…..From ESPN.com: The Bulldogs started off 24-11 against nationally ranked teams under Richt and won a pair of SEC championships. They’ve lost nine of their past 11 games against ranked foes since those days, and this program has also lost its elite status in the SEC.

@HardTruth Soldier…to me it’s not the fact that Georgia lost, but the way. I was so disappointed to see our defense hands on hips 3 minutes into the second half after this much publicized S&C program. It all feels like a big off season of lies! Not to mention that it’s not about one game, it’s about a desire to break the losing mojo that is inhabiting UGA. Of course they could rebound and yes, it was to a good team, but personally I’m just sick of the L’s.

If you’re OL cannot hold blocks long enough for the down field throws, why in the world do you continue with that very same game plan. Let’s go with the short passing game and give the athletes a chance to catch the ball in space and make some places. You do not always have to play the mid-to-vertical game. Boise State adjusted after the first few series after they found out quickly that our CB’s could play man-to-man and shut down their WRs. They went to a bunch formation and a short passing game. We never seem to make any right adjustments. We continue using the same offensive game plan. On the defense, I understand we made adjustments, but if you cannot get pressure on the QB, you need to play M. Diaz type of football and blitz baby blitz while mixing up all of your blitzing packages to keep the offense guessing. Since we do not have the DE’s that can put pressure on the QB, we need to do something different. It doesn’t take a genius to figure this out.

I am not jumping off the ship. I have too many good memories and know we will get this ship turned around this year.

3 quarters of...

September 5th, 2011
6:28 pm

Heard on the radio from a talking head that there was 3 quarters of Bobo Ball and 1 quarter of Murray Ball…3 quarters of establish the run, establish the run, establish the run…then 1 quarter of having Murray free wheeling and making yards and TD’s
It’s not only this season, but every game last year was the same…get Murray on the edge and make a play down field, or with his wheels…
Bobo sure sticks to his scripted game plan…CMR should be ashamed of himself after stating last year that he was going to start taking a more active role this season, and then standing there running his fingers thru his $150 haircut…
Out Coached, Out Played, Out Conditioned, Out Classed….
I’m an Orson fan because he’s from down here, but that red Mohawk was bush league…what other big time coach would allow that, on what other big time team would a player disrespect his coach and teammates by being selfish enough to do so on national tv no less…
This is not a team, it is a bunch of individuals, just like they were in HS as HIGHLY RECRUITED me me players thinking that they were the team…some teams have character, while ours have characters

Bob I agree that we have problems in DAWG NATION, but people act as if this was Sacramento State(thank God they played OSU Beavers Saturday)and not Boise State. Yes we are an SEC TEAM, and yes we should’ve performed better, but do people realize this QB was what #3 in the Heisman voting last year. They are good! When we finish 10-2 and are in a top tier bowl people will shut up. And for the record FIRE MIKE BOBO as OC.

GA needs a good inside linebacker BAD this week. If Samuel fills that bill, please put him there. Should be more help to team @ LB than RB.

Try this

September 5th, 2011
6:37 pm

Samuel back to middle linebacker, we need him there with Tree gone. Charles to wideout, used Shannon Sharpe style. Branden Smith to wideout, start Crowell and don’t hesitate to go to backup quarterbacks if Murray keeps throwing the ball up for grabs like AJ and Durham are still out there. Remember, Donnan saved Greene his last year and got fired, don’t hesitate to use Lemay if necessary.

I like Mark Richt. He’s a great guy and was a pretty good OC in his day. But he is not now, nor will he ever be, a good HC. Very few individuals have the necessary leadership skills to be great HC’s. That’s why they get paid so much and are in such great demand. CMR is way overpaid for his talents. He’s probably the most overpaid coach in all of college football when you consider the resources that he has to work with, and his results. I believe that UGA will lose to USC on Sat, and will go on to have another mediocre season. And I belive that Greg McGarity will have no choice but to relieve CMR of his duties. I think that UGA will persue a proven HC with lots of fire for coaching who can take these players and win with them. And I believe that this coach should be Lane Kiffin (just kidding) Kyle Whittingham, Greg Schiano, or Dan Mullen.

That’s a good idea “Try this”. If our OL is fat, lazy, and ineffective, why not bring in an athlete QB? If our blocking asignments are so complex that our RBs have to block first, and run second, why haven’t we been having success? I don’t see this with the top 10 ten teams…I really believe the game has passed Richt by.

Hard Truth Soldier, I’ve heard all of that before. But what you have failed to think about is the difference in the ranking of the classes of UGA and Boise St. over the past several years. The Boise St. coaching staff is doing MUCH more with MUCH less. What does that point to? COACHING, and mostly HEAD COACHING. You’re predicting that UGA will go 10-2 this season. I must respectfully disagree. Just last season UGA lost to mighty Colorado. Who subsequently fired their HC a scant few weeks later. This program is not headed for 10-2. 2-10 might be closer!

@HardTruth Soldier Normally, I’m with you, but that’s a sorry excuse. It’s not the losing that bothers me, but the way we lose. The team came out and started the season the EXACT SAME WAY they have started and finished each season over the past 4 years. Top 5 team, first game of the season, blah blah blah, are all excuses, at least for this current coaching staff. Kellen Moore had all new WR’s, save Shoemaker (a former, slow, slot receiver who moved outside this year). Bosie had H-back type receivers open ALL NIGHT LONG, except the 1st quarter. Come on man, you saw the game same as I did. SC, on the other hand, was getting smacked by ECU. What happened? They fought back like champions. Why? Their 68 year old coach has more swagger and is probably still the best play caller in college football. How confident do you think they are heading into Athens Saturday?

Richt needs to get with the program and take a page from Saban’s book. Saban plays for the next year by playing his young guys with the mix of veterans. So therefore, there is no dropoff. Case in point: When Mark Ingram was a heisman running back, u also had Trent Richardson getting a considerable amount of carries and gaining experience to set up the running back situation down the road. Saban realizes there are 85 Scholarship guys and utilizes them within his scheme during an actual game. Richt only uses his backups when someone goes down with injury, forcing someone in who’s inexperienced which hurts the team. You have guys like Nick Marshall, Ray Drew who are super athletic, a few reps in an actual game situation. So when injuries come, they can keep the ball rolling without uncertainty. No wonder it seems we are out of shape and wondering about the depth chart every year before the season starts. Anytime there is uncertainty about certain positions going into a season, there are going to be problems. Look at our WRs, RB, DB(with exception of Boykin) positions. Two freshmen were our better reciever and back while our secondary got torched. Your not going to see that at BAMA….

@HardTruth Soldier Lol… How confident are you that we would have been prepared to beat even Sacramento State? … I’m not so sure myself and it’s scary.

After 10 years of this current coaching regime, UGA SHOULD NOT EVER LOSE TO BOISE ST. (Especially in the first game of the season), Colorado, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, UCF, WEST VIRGINIA, or BOSTON COLLEGE. And yes I went back a few extra years. UGA SHOULD NEVER BE 1-9 VS FLORIDA. UGA SHOULD NEVER BE DOWN 31-0 at halftime, at home, to ANY TEAM when Stafford, Moreno, and Green are on your offense

UGA fans…The main problem with the state of UGA’s football team is plainly obvious….it’s that you, the fans, always buy into the hype during the offseason.

I have heard over and over about how much the defense had improved over last year. Where did that information come from? Was it just stated so many times that you believed it? Just because some of the defensive players had “another year of the 3-4 under their belt” doesn’t automatically make them better players…or better tacklers…or better coverage backs. The defense looked just as inept in the Boise St. game as it did most of last year.

The same can be said of the offensive line. Did you really think that a couple of months of practice with a new O-line coach would turn a below average unit into bull-dozers? Most wouldn’t….but somehow UGA fans just KNEW that it would.

Along the same lines, you UGA fans had CONVINCED yourself that Isiah Crowell was going to, from game one, dominate opposing defenses. I truly believe that he will be a very good running back in the SEC…but come on, he is a true freshman.

What made you believe that UGA players were going to be in such better shape this year? Just because you brought in a different strength and conditioning coach? Look, most S&C coaches deploy the same techniques that all others do…with a few exceptions. But again, you whole-heartedly believed that when opposing teams were spent, there would be the might Dawg players standing tall. It doesn’t work that way.

I know that this post makes me sound like a complete UGA hater…and I am not. However, UGA fans really need to be more realistic in their expectations, and quit building up the team into something that it isn’t every summer. Face it, UGA is like most of the other teams in the SEC…that is, an above average team that will compete for an SEC title every 3rd or 4th year. Believe it or not, the college football world, let alone the SEC, runs through Athens every year. Once you stop crowning your team Champions every year, and start being a bit more realistic, you won’t be so shocked once the games are actually played.

Knuckle dragging crackers punched your so called 4&5 superstars right in the chops!!! Speed ain’t dung when you don’t understand nor or you taught the fundamentals of football and that starts with conditioning. Our guys were running stairs and conditioning on their own the last 8 months. Shows you who wants it more and who’s better prepared. You will only cry more when you see Boise State in the NC Game. I truly hope the Dawgs win out the rest of the season but I just don’t think they have the desire, too lazy! That was obvious by all the heavy breathing and time outs they had to take in the second half. GO BRONCOS!!! Obviously the better team, punch for punch!!!!!

Yep at least Spurrier has a better perspective and correct one on the play of Boise ST and all of you are whiny little babies because UGA lost. LOL. You know UGA could have played better, but so could just about every team this weel but those teams did NOT play Boise ST or they would have got their butts kicked INCLUDING SOUTH CAROLINA. Grow up be a man and be a good loser. UGA might go on to win EVERY GAME THE RTES TOF THIS YEAR AND IF THEY DO I BET YOU WILL STILL BE MOANING OR GROANING ABOUT SOMETHING. YOU UGA FANS ARE PATHETIC AND ARE THE SORRIEST EXCUSE FOR FANS I HAVE EVER SEEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. I AM 43 YEARS OLD. WHAT DO YOU GUYS KNOW AND TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION? THE WHOLE PICTURE OR ARE YOU JUST STUCK IN THE MOMENT. SHEESH! DOD NOT VIRGINIA TECH LOSE TO LAST YEAR TO START THE SEASON? TO BOISE AND THEN TO A NOBODY?! DID THEY NOT GO TO A BCS BOWL GAME? YOU UGA FANS HAVE NO BALLS AND YOU EMBARRASS YOURSELVES, UGA ND THE STATE OF GA AND THE HUMAN RACE!

IT WAS ONE GAME AGAINST A TEAM THAT CAN BEAT ABOUT ANYBODY IN THE NATION EARLY IN THE SEASON! THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS SAME THING FOR SEVERAL YEARS NOW. THE SAME SYSTEM AND ARE EXPERIENCED AND GOOD AT IT.

I GUARANTEE YOU THEY WOULD HAVE WHIPPED SOUTH CAROLINA THIS PAST SATURDAY! BUT YOU KNOW WHAT, DO YOU THINK THAT SOUTH CAROLINA FANS WOULD BE AS PATHETIC AND DISGRUNTLED AS YOU? AND THEY ARE HIGHER RANKED TO START THE SEASON!! NO THEY WOULD HAVE KNOWN IT WAS A TOUGH GAME BUT NOT THE END OF THE SEASON. YOU PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK, WANT EVERYTHING NOW, NOW, NOW, MICROWAVE GENERATION. EVERYTHING NOW! YOU GUYS WOULD HAVE NEVER MADE IT 60 PLUS YEARS AGO BECAUSE YOU ARE PATHETIC, IMPATIENT, WHINY, IGNORANT BABIES!

PLEASE MOVE OUT OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA. SUPPORT YOUR TEAM AFTER ONE FREAKIN GAME OR LEAVE THE STATE. IT WOULD BE MORE JOBS FOR US. IF YOU HAVE A JOB. YOU ARE PROBABLY ON YOUR MOMS INTERNET AND COMPUTER AND CONTIBUTE NOTHING TO SOCIETY BUT TO GET ONLINE AND RANT AND RAVE ABOUT SOMEONE ELSE SO IT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOUR PATHETIC SELF.

I AND MANY OTHERS, SEE THE BIG PICTURE AND ARE UNDERSTANDING AND ARE SUPPORTING OUR SCHOOL, OUR PLAYERS AND OUR COACH. HE DONT JUST FORGET HOW TO COACH, THERE ARE FACTORS AND PLAYING AND LOSING TO THE POSSIBLE NATIONAL CHAMPIONS IS A HUGE ONE. THERE MAY HAVE BEEN ONLY 3 TEAMS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY THAT COULD HAVE BEAT BOISE ON SATURDAY, THIS EARLY IN THE SEASON. BAMA WOULD NOT HAVE BEAT THEM. NO WAY. MAYBE OKLAHOMA, LSU AT HOME. BAMA SURE COULD LATER ON, BUT NOT THE FIRST GAME. HECK GIVE OUR YOUNG GUYS A COUPLE GAMES UNDER THEIR BELT.

I SUPPORT UGA, THE PLAYERS AND MARK RICHT. THE BOISE ST LOSS IS EXTREMELY UNDERSTADABLE BUT MOST OF YOU FANS ARE IRRATIONAL AND UNREASONABLE AND HARDHEADED AND HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE AND FOR ALL OF THAT YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED AND WE UGA FANS AND ALUMNUS ARE ASHAMED OF YOU MORE THAN YOU KNOW.

BOBO IS ANOTHER STORY. HIS DAYS ARE NUMBERED. RICHT IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE AND WE BOOSTERS KNOW THAT TOO BECAUSE ONE GAME DOES NOT A SEASON MAKE OR BREAK, ESPECIALLY THIS YEAR. WE THINK A 9-3 SEASON IS WITHIN REACH, MAYBE MORE. BUT 8-4 IS ALSO ACCEPTABLE. ANYTHING LOWER AND THERE WOULD NEED TO E SOME SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS LATE OR EXTENUATING CIRCUMSTANCES.

THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE OL THE LAST FEW YEARS INCLUDING ONE NFL CALIBER STARTER HAVING 3 SEASON-ENDING INJURIES WHICH TOOK AN OL SCHOLARSHIP AND I AM TAKING THE SAME STARTER! OTHERS LEAVING THE PROGRAM OR BEING ASKED TO LEAVE. SOME HAD ACADEMIC PROBLEMS, SOME WERE NOT GOOD ENOUGH. MANY WERE INJURED IN EACH OF THE LAST FEW YEARS. WE GET THAT DO YOU? JOE COX WAS THE STARTING QB 2 YEARS AGO WE KNEW THAT WAS A DOWN YEAR AND WAS NOT GOING TO BE MUCH BETTER THAN 8-4 AT BEST. ANYTHING ELSE WAS ICING ON THE CAKE. LAST YEAR WAS A DEFINITE REBUILDING YEAR WITH A FRESHMAN QB AND ONCE AGAIN INJURIES ON THE OL, AJ GREEN SUSPENDED AND OTHERS. STILL UGA WAS IN MOST GAMES BUT FOUND A WAY TO LOSE THEM. THAT IS NOT UNUSUAL FOR A REBUILDING TEAM BUT CANNOT CONTINUE AND IT IS NOT EXPECTED TO CONTINUE.

THAT LEADS US TO THIS YEAR. ONE LOSS TO BOISE ST. IT IS ACCEPTABLE AND UNDERSTANDABLE. THERE ARE SOME AREAS OF CONCERN HOWEVER AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO BE ADDRESSED. THE BIGGEST ISSUE IS MIDDLE LINEBACKER. SOMEBODY IS GOING TO HAVE TO STEP UP AND ANOTHER STEP OVER. ANOTHER AREA OF CONTINUED CONCERN IS BOBO AND HIS GAME PLANNING AND/OR PLAY CALLING. THE LINES SEEM TO HAVE A LOT TO DO WITH LIMITING THE OFFENSE HOWEVER THERE MUST BE CONTIGENCY PLANS AND THIS IS AREA THAT APPEARS TO BE A LACK OF ATTENTION AND IS CONSIDERED TO BE A FAILURE. REMEMBER WHEN UGA RAN THE BALL DOWN AUBURN AND GA TECHS THROATS A COUPLE YEARS AGO WITH COX AT QB? IT TOOK THE WHOLE SEASON TO TRY SOMETHING DIFFERENT. WHAT IF THAT HAD BEEN DONE EARLY IN THE SEASON. WHA IF THE RUNNING GAME IS NOT WORKING WELL? WHAT ARE GOING TO DO? KEEP RUNNING UP THE MIDDLE OR THROW SHORT TO THE BACKS AND GET YOUR PLAYMAKERS INVOLVED IN THE GAME INSTEAD? THINGS LIKE THAT ARE KILLING THIS TEAM MORE THAN ANYTHING.

BOTH LINES, BOBO AND LACK OF EXPERIENCE TOGETHER IN THE SYSTEM AND EVERYBODY KNOWING WHAT THEY NEED TO DO. THAT COMES WITH TIME. LINES MUST HOWEVER PLAY BETTER IMMEDIATELY. BOBO, WELL THIS IS HIS 4TH OR 5TH SEASON AND HE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE PROGRESSING BUT STAGNANT AND NO CONTIGENCY PLANS TO SPEAK OF.

Columbus…seems as though LSU played Oregon…with a backup quarterback, and did pretty well.

Glad you see the larger picture and all…I think the rest of us are still trying to figure out how we lost to a Mountain West team….by two touchdowns.

By the way sorry I was angry there. But most all of you have no clue especially the ones that say Richt should have been fired 2 years ago. Bobo maybe, but when you say Richt, everything you ever say has lot credibility as you are ignorant and obviously pretty young. Now if Richt lets Bobo lose his job for him, then that is an argument to be madei Richt is a fine coach, however Bobo should be replaced and many feel like RIcht does not want to send him packing with all of his young children. What does he have like 6 kids? That and Richt believes in him and although Richt knows more about his competence then we do and if the OL injuries have been a bigger factor than Bobo’s coaching, still most do not like what we see and have given Richt the benefit of the doubt but that will likely change if there is not some reason to change our minds this year. Bobo has one year and this is it. Richt can stay with an 8-4 season but Bobo likely cannot and if Richt will not fire him if it is strongly suggested, then Richt might be gone too.
