Notebook: CB/KR Brandon Boykin delivers postgame message to team

After Georgia’s 35-21 loss to Boise State was in the books and the Bulldogs had slogged their way back to their locker room in the depths of the Georgia Dome, senior cornerback Brandon Boykin stood up in the center of the room and yelled for his teammates’ attention.

“Before Coach Richt talked, I just told them we have a whole season left to play,” said Boykin, one of four captains for the game. “I told them, ‘this was a hyped game and everybody wanted us to do what we’re supposed to do, but it didn’t happen. We can’t get our heads down because we’ve got a whole season to go.’ Everybody’s positive now and we’re going to be ready for this next ballgame.

Boykin certainly did all he could. The cornerback from Fayetteville, in addition to playing the whole game on defense and finished with six tackles, a pass breakup and a tackle for loss, also ended up with 190 all purpose yards.

Eighty yards came on the first and only offensive play of Boykin’s career, a touchdown on a counter play after lining up in the backfield.

“That’s something we worked on,” Boykin said. “I was just fortunate for it to open up like it did with the blocking and everything. But the bottom line is it means nothing because we didn’t win the game. But if coach Richt or Coach Bobo wants me to play offense any time I’m all for it.”

Samuel gets starting nod over Crowell

Junior Richard Samuel said he was surprised to get the start at tailback over freshman Isaiah Crowell at tailback.

“I was surprised because I felt like he got more reps than me the last two weeks,” said Samuel, who was sidelined a quadriceps injury toward the end of preseason camp. “We run an equal rotation at the position but, yeah, I was a little bit surprised.”

Samuel, who played his first two seasons on offense, was moved from linebacker late this summer after attrition robbed Georgia of its top two rushers from last season, Washaun Ealey and Caleb King. Samuel opened the game with a two-yard run. He finished with 12 yards on seven carries.

Crowell  had impressed his coaches and teammates while getting the majority of work with the No. 1 offense during the preseason. He came in the game on Georgia’s second possession and lost a yard on his first carry.

“Aaron [Murray] tripped me a little bit,” he said with a slight chuckle.

But overall Crowell fared a little better, finishing with 60 yards on 15 carries. So he could get the nod against South Carolina.

“It was tough to find holes,” he said. “Boise did a good job running to the ball.”

Injuries take toll

Starting inside linebacker Alec Ogletree left early in the first quarter with an injury to his right foot. Early indications are Ogletree is doubtful for next week. The majority of Ogletree’s snaps were filled by walk-on Jeremy Sulek and junior Michael Gilliard.

Also late in the first half, Boykin and the other starting inside linebacker, Christian Robinson, went down with injuries. Both players returned in the second half. Robinson said he got a “couple of hip-pointers.”

“Between Christian Robinson and Ogletree, we couldn’t really afford to lose one of those two guys,” Richt said. “The drop off was going to be pretty steep, with true freshmen and a walk-on in there. They’re good kids and they’re busting their tails, but it was a position we felt we really couldn’t afford that type of an injury.”

Richt did not know the extent of Ogletree’s injury. His right foot was in a walking boot after the game.

Starting left guard Kenarious Gates left the game with a “lower left leg” injury in the second quarter. That was also an area the Bulldogs could ill-afford an injury. Gates was expected to be Georgia’s fill-in if a tackle went out with an injury. Sophomore Dallas Lee, who previously hasn’t played in a game, replaced Gates.

“Gates leaving was not good for Georgia and not good for Gates,” Richt said. “But Dallas [Lee] was a guy we felt comfortable could go in there and play guard. I’ll have to watch the film to see how he did.”

First-timers

Seven true freshmen made their debut for Georgia in the first half: wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell — who started — cornerback Nick Marshall, safety Corey Moore, cornerback Damian Swann, cornerback Chris Sanders, inside linebacker Amarlo Herrera and Crowell.

Several other players played in their first games. Junior college transfer nose guard John Jenkins, redshirt freshman defensive backs Mark Deas and Connor Norman, linebacker Kosta Vavlas, wide receiver Michael Bennett and wide receiver Michael Erdman. Also sophomore linebacker Jarvis Jones started following a redshirt season in 2010 after transferring from USC.

The Bulldogs had five first-time starters. On offense, WR Marlon Brown, OG Chris Burnette and Mitchell lined up during the first play of the game. Mitchell was not in the game on the first snap, but the original first down play was called back after a false start penalty. CB Jordan Love lined up for Georgia its first down on defense.

Rambo, Thomas don’t play

Free safety Bacarri Rambo and tailback Carlton Thomas both were held out due to suspensions for unspecified violations of team rules. Both will be back for South Carolina.

Richt had confirmed Thomas’ suspension but didn’t say anything about Rambo until after Saturday’s game.

“He is eligible to play next week,” Richt said. “He was suspended for the first game for the usual team rules violation. Carlton Thomas will play next week, too.”

Rambo started all 13 games at free safety last season. Thomas was Georgia’s leading returning rusher, but was not expected to start this season

Bobo back in press box

Mike Bobo was calling plays from the pressbox again on Saturday. It was part of a ploy by Georgia to play a hurry-up offense and make call from above.

The Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator had been calling plays from the sidelines since October of 2009, when he moved down to the field midway through the season “to get a better feel of things” and talk face-to-face with quarterback Joe Cox after a few poor offensive efforts in a row.

Now in his fourth season as Georgia’s offensive coordinator and 11th as quarterbacks , Bobo started out coaching from the press box in 2007 and 2008.

Rocking in the ATL

Georgia-Boise State wasn’t the only game in town this weekend. In fact, there were all kinds of events taking place in Atlanta, including a Braves game, Dragon*Con, the Black Gay Pride Parade and NASCAR racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Also, the Sports Radio 680 The Fan was organized a concert in Centenniel Olympic Park for the rock band O.A.R. Needless to say, downtown Atlanta was jam-packed and jamming on Saturday.

All of which made Chick-fil-A Bowl president Gary Stokan very happy. He hadn’t taken an official census, but he was pretty certain all the major downtown hotels were booked Friday and Saturday night.

“There are 12,000 rooms downtown and I can’t imagine there’s one of them that has availability,” Stokan said on the Georgia Dome field before the game. “Imagine what it’s going to be like next year when we have two games.”

Next year the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game will hold a doubleheader on this weekend, with games between Auburn-Clemson and Tennessee-N.C. State. And yes, Dragon*Con.

What the Big Dawg ate

Georgia’s new head nutritionist Jenn Ketterly traveled with the team and planned all the Bulldogs’ meals in advance of and after Saturday’s game, down to what kind of oil in which to cook the food.

UGA stayed at the Omni Hotel downtown and Ketterly dictated every meal the Bulldogs ate while there. She said Saturday’s pregame meal was chicken, steak, green beans, roasted potatoes, macaroni and cheese and a full fruit bar.

Scene and heard

Tight end Orson Charles was rocking a newly-acquired mohawk haircut. Perhaps in honor of UGA’s “spread the red” promotion for the game, it was dyed red. . . . UGA legend Herschel Walker and former Boise State star defensive end Ryan Winterswyk delivered the official game ball in pregame ceremony. They were actually driven to midfield in a car. . . . Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal announced that it was time for the kickoff. . . . Georgia won the toss and elected to receive the opening kickoff. . . . Former Bulldogs fullback Shaun Chapas (Dallas Cowboys) and tailback Caleb King (Minnesota Vikings) were cut by their respective teams on Saturday. . . . Before Saturday, Georgia was 7-8 in domes, including 4-3 at the Georgia Dome. Two of those wins clinched SEC championships.

Well, I for one have had all my questions answered.

Time for the old report card.

Defense: C………Looked some better than last year
Offense: D-……..Did you watch the game????
Coaching:C-…….This is only because T, Grantham improved the defense….slightly
Uniforms F-……..I don’t think anymore needs to be said about this.
Execution:A……..Yes, I’m in favor of that.
Intangibles A+…..Providing Greg Mcgarity has Kirby Smart on speed dial, and makes the call.

Overview of personel:
Mike Bobo: Doesn’t appear that it matters where he is, either the press box or sideline, he is suspect.
Mark Richt: Maybe this is not his true calling.
A. Murray: Good player on a so-so team
I. Crowell: First game. “Maybe” he gets better…. Let’s hope so.

This was certainly a learning experience. We learned that you should not tweet, blog, text stuff that you can’t back up (hope “someone” hears this). We learned that we should not make “anymore fashion statements” (except for the black jersey, silver pants version, which I think looks really good) no matter how much money some corporate entity offers us. I hope no one uses the term “kids” when referring to these players. After all there are 18, 19, 20 year olds in Iraq and Afganistan that are referred to as men. And rightfully so. A “dream team” is one that beats teams like BSU, and is not owned by Fla. Right now, we are about on the same level as Tech, and that is not good. The only “leadership” I can see is someone can easily lead this bunch to the table to eat. That said, some of them may even get lost on the way to that destination. Yes, they can get better, but right now it appears they have the same chance of that, as I do of winning the lottery. So, in closing until changes are made, we will continue to be the “bitch” for other teams in the SEC. Now if you will excuse me I need to check my lottery tickets, and go to bed. Night all…….

GT grad here, you don’t put in walk-ons at LB in a key game like this one, you play another OLB (like Stripling or Drew) and move one of the talented OLB starters inside, that way you still have 4 BCS caliber LBs in the game and you don’t get caught with a walk-on in the game against Boise.

When that walk-on went in at LB, Boise’s QB seemed to find a lot of underneath routes in the middle of the field.

Also, the time has come to start Damian Swann oven Branden Smith, I have never seen a more cowardly, non-physical, crappy tackler on a BCS-level Team than Branden Smith, he needs to be moved to nickel back where he can play on obvious passing downs and play bump-n-run man coverage which seems to be his only strength. Smith’s tackling is so poor, he make Deion Sanders look like Kenny Easley (UCLA) or Ronnie Lott(USCw).

Boise scouted Ga. well and knew that B. Smith hates to tackle, they seemed to target him on all their outside running plays.

You guys played a brutal team for an opening game, that Boise Team probably beats 8 of the top-10 including Bama ,given their 4 ints. vs. Kent St. combined with the fact that Richardson only had 37 yds. on 13 carries.

You guys will definitely beat USCe, their Defense won’t be as assignment-perfect as Boise was, they might have better athletes at a few positions, but they won’t play as sharp on Defense as Boise did.

If you go to rivals.com, and look up boise and their last 4 years recruiting, they have more 2 star recruits than 3 star , with one 4 star in four years. The “bulldawg nation” enjoys top 5 recruiting classes every year for the last 10 years.GT recruits heads above boise states, som it’s not how you sign em, its how you coach em.

I was concerned that we could score enough points given the new OL, new RB corps, new receivers…..in sum, a new offense……I do not like the zone read/spread option call…..I was disappointed that our OL could not get any push up front and pass protection was awful. Murray is still only effective running play action out of the I……fortunately, given the schedule we can lose to South Carolina and still win 9-10 games……the OL has a long way to go.

Malcom Mitchell looks legit…..

First, hats off to the Boise coaching staff for their game plan and their players execution they did an outstanding job.

I’ve been a supporter of CMR but I’m EXTREMELY disapointed in the team’s performance. Losing Tree was a huge swing, however I’m not going to put this loss on the D, as we should have been prepared for a shootout against one of the greatest QBs in college history, but our coaching plan/adjustments were horrible.

Coaching gaffe 1.
Boise staff neutralizes the PR game by rugby style punting to give the coverage team time to get down field. Brilliant.
UGA Staff response – stay in punt protection
What the reponse SHOULD have been- Ok, you want to take 6-7 seconds to punt the ball, then we’re going to sellout on the block and bring everybody!

Coaching gaffe 2. The Offense played right into the strength of the Boise D. Once AGAIN Bobo miss uses his talent on offense. Time and time again we ran right up the middle for modest gains at best. It was obvious on 3 occassions that Boise’s lateral speed was lacking. The Boykin reverse, the Mitchell reverse and one of Crowell’s few runs that was bounced to the outside.
What Bobo SHOULD have done- TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OUR SPEED!!!! All we heard all summer long was how M.Mitchell was getting behind defenders. Why did we wait until the END of the game to take advantage of this. Also, why didn’t we do some of the toss sweeps that we heard were so effective in practices? Why hasn’t CMR and Bobo figured out that AM is most effective when he’s rolling out? Why didn’t we put the Boise D off balance by letting AM run? Why didn’t we get the ball to the RBs in SPACE?

Bottom line- the COACHES let the PLAYERS down with yet another p*ss poor game plan.

@ red&black we have BCS caliber TALENT we don’t have BCS caliber COACHING.

Oh Nooo! We Su*ck AGAIN!!!

Chris Petersen
Skip Holtz
Kirby Smart

The defense didn’t defend the short pass well, but losing Ogletree couldn’t have helped. But the onus for this loss falls on Mike Bobo. If we had mounted even a little offense, the game would’ve been different. We never managed to swing field position.

I told my wife repeatedly that we needed to change over to the I formation and run play action. When we finally do, in the third quarter, we quickly move down the field, only to go back to the spread and end up missing a 54 yard field goal.

We didn’t use our speed advantage on the corners, and that fourth and one call was sheer horror, leaving a defensive end unblocked on a deep handoff.

No, we didn’t get a sack, but I believe he only had one seven step drop all game, and we intercepted that pass because of pressure.

A team with this many offensive options shouldn’t look this confused.

Like Richt, his values and demeanor, however, his loyalty to bumbling assistant coaches will be the end of him here at GA. Defense looked slow and unprepared, offense was way to predictable, and what about BSU shuffling players in and out on offense? Why did it take 2 quarters to understand that and make changes? I, for one, do not plan on wasting anymore money to see these bunch of clowns coach at a division 1 school. Even though my money goes there with two kids in school, I cannot afford to waste money when I have a choice to do things I enjoy and bring contentment.

With all respect, don’t bring the man’s faith into it. I’ll agree regarding the lack of Lombardi-esque preparation/discipline, but his faith has nothing to with that. I have held my peace about CMR for the last couple of years and everybody knows by now how I desise BoBo, but the bleeding has to stop from Bobo; if CMR ha nnot got the balls to fire him, he needs to go also. I’m willing to give “The Dream
Team” 2 years to get ready, but last night, the entire team was not ready to play. At the start of the game it was evident and especially at the begining of the 2nd half. Boise was more fired up than UGA on the sideline before the kickoff, we looked like a bunch of middle schoolers! UGA was team may be inexperienced in places, but UGA got out coached again. What does it take to get Bobo out of the state of Georgia? Bobo needs to go spend more quality time with his 5 kids rather than try to run a quality offense at this level, he is incapable.
I love the Red and Black, but all I saw last night was a bunce S___ from coaches on down. It is time for Richt to go, he can”t get the job done; his coaches are uncoachable thus making kids uncoachable. I have no confidence in this staff, UGA deserves better.
You think we suck now, just wait until the league expands! This coaching staff is the laughing stock of the SEC; who in their right mind would to come to UGA and play for a bunch a nothings!

You are all correct that UGA was out coached. But the hardest thing to let out is the fact that Boise State was better than UGA last night andnis a better program than Georgia right now. If this game was played on the blue turf it would have been 49-14. Boise State would be a very good team in the SEC right now. They win the SEC east and it would depend on their league schedule and who would have to go to Boise on the West.
Recruits are only good if they live up to their hype.
Kellen Moore is a legit HT front runner and NFL qb. UGA may still win the SEC East and have a good season, but Boise State is now a better football program than UGA.

We come out for our first drive in the second hald in the I-formation and run 5 plays, all successful. Then we go into that zone read spread crap and the drive stalls. If something is working, STICK WITH IT! When you have a back with Crowell’s speed and quickness, you want him to get the ball when he’s moving. Handing him the ball when he’s standing still won’t work! He’d be much more effective in the I and following the lead block of a 260 pound fullback. I don’t get it!

King dropped how many passes? My biggest concern isn’t the loss, it’s the injuries. UGA always seems to lose a lot of players to injury. Honestly, I saw some bright spots and think we will be ok against teams that don’t have Peyton Manning jr as their qb. You can bet the ole ball coach will be looking hard at the short pass defense weakness and planning accordingly. Run defense did prety good considering how much attention we had to give the passing game. Lattimore is a better rb than BS had, and they had a good one, so we’ll need to stuff him. This next one is a must win, and if it happens, last night will be a distant memory. It’s not like we are concerned with rankings, the focus is the SEC east. To me, the OL was the biggest disappointment….run blocking and pass protection were pretty ineffective.

@ Oh No we S*CK again!! – I completely agree with all your comments, and want to add that we seemed unprepared and slightly un-disciplined. I can’t possibly believe that we couldn’t have been more prepared for our first drive of the game. We had 7 MAJOR penalties that all hurt our field position really bad. And running on 1st and 15? Or throwing down the field for the first play of drives (at least twice).

Our play calling is so predictable (which wouldn’t be bad of course if we ever got anywhere with it).

I was most disappointed with our line play on both sides of the ball. We didn’t even sack Moore once. I’m not so sure I’m sold on the 3-4.

Thank you for the hospitality shown to Boise fans. We have deep respect for UGA and the SEC. I will admit Georgia has better athletes and talent. That said, Boise State recruits and signs the “right” kids that fit their program. Your D coordinator has SPEED in the D-Backs and stayed in zone. Anyone and everyone knows that Kellen Moore will pick apart zone all day long with time. Best of luck to each of you and to UGA…

This one ain’t on Bobo (offense woes were largely poor execution: overthrown passes, dropped balls, missed blocks), this loss is because of Grantham’s inability to make adjustments as the game unfolded. Did he make any changes or instruct players to do things to scheme against what BSU did play after play? Moore made it look so easy, like he could run that offense blindfolded. How can the defense not have any pressure on the qb, and yet receivers are wide open? Happened the entire game and I saw nothing on adjustments on D. Is TG just over his head??

On the flip side, Boise is coached to precision and yes they are tough (in case Blackledge didn’t make that clear enough) but they play SMART. The know exactly what to do all the time and do it. And guess what, it works! No question UGA had more talent on that field, but just were out-coached, pre-game and during the game and we all see the result.

Richt could probably stay and be successful if he learns from BSU and get smart coaches who can prepare the players mentally and make real-time adjustments during the game.

Gentlemen … UGA football has no proper coaching. We must make a change. We need to fire Richt after the USC game. unfortunately Richt has such a sorry staff there is not one assistant that can function as a intrum head coach.
we must not let Richt stay. we can not be fooled into letting him beat Ole Miss, Coastal Carolina, Kentucky etc and to tell the fans things are better. Richt has drug UGA down. UGA football is like great bird dog that just can’t hunt. There is a rotten core at UGA and Richt must go.

Bobo is the worst college OC in the history of the world. No wonder UGA’s defense got hammered; they lived on the field. Bobo must not believe in change or improvement. Few crossing routes. Throws to the boundary. Odd play calls at crucial times. Richt is fired soon and it will be due to poor hires. This is Richt’s offense but it is not the same one used to win the SEC twice. We look less like FSU and more like Towns County on offense. At least this is the last year we have no hope. Our new AD will hire a coach who will hire solid assistants and not hire based on religion.

I’ve stomached all I can from this pathetic offense of Bobo’s. This kid is clearly not an offensive coordinator, and why would you continue at of all places GEORGIA, run this spread option offense period! We are, and always have been a line it up and run it down your throat type of team.(Check the Herschelera, and every other back that made it to the NFL out of UGA. Crowell can play, but not in this offense, Samuels can run, but not in this offense, Bobo can’t coach, Murray clearly looks for Charles to much(for the record Charles is a stud) and holds the ball to long. Can this team run block? Pass block? Well that one got answered last night (with 5 sacks against us) do anything right? It took a freshmen (Malcolm Mitchell) to do something at receiver, although Marlon Brown did appear to look like he’s finally coming around, but this Mitchell kid has a spark about him. Coach Grantham, you coached in the NFL? or was that the CFL. We stopped nothing, looked less than nothing, and played like nothing. This is UGA, not Tech, and we look like the North Avenue crew. Now lets be realistic, Boise is a great(yes great) team and well coached, but if I start going position by position of the four and five star players Georgia has, and Boise doesn’t, it makes one wonder. I guess they don’t have five stars around there hearts, because Boise clearly looked better.Next week is getting old, right now is getting obvious(as in we need to perform) for Mark Richt’s future’ Coach Richt I’ve got a suggestion, Take back the play calling, move Bobo back to QB coach and save both your jobs and future. Come outta that spread crap, line up and play in the I-Formation and kill opponents with play action. You’ve got one week and believe me “the ole ball coach” gonna let you know he’s coming.

We looked fine until we lost tree. then the qb began dinking and dunking all game with no pass rush. This was going to be the toughest game we played all year and we got beat. SIMPLE. Get over it and hope that the coaching staff will play the talent next week (dreamteam) and not play seniors because they are seniors… i thought every young kid played awsome last night and that is positive… my concern is the line … THE LINE SUCKS. Please put Samuel back in the linebacker position. He is not, I repeat NOT a Div 1 college running back. I said that 2 years ago, and I say it again. He’s a great player, just needs to play a position he’s good at. Crowell looks like the real deal at running back. He has vision and very quick to the holes. Plain and simple truth: We got beaten by a sound more experienced front line, offense and defense. Many of these guys are fifth year seniors…..played together for a long time. The DAWGS have to be proud of hanging even as close as they did. The game surely showed the glaring weakness of the O-line. The secondary isn’t far behind them either. I thought Crowell looked pretty good with the space he had to run, looked alot quicker and more explosive than anything we’ve had lateley, he’ll be a good one. I thought the players played their butts off, even though they were getting beat by their man alot of the time, give the other team some credit, they’re trying to when too and they are good. Our head coach looks like a zombie who’s ready to take a nap, and Bobo is definitely from the Jim Donnan school of play calling(no rhyme or reason) and our version of the spread lookes like a pop-warner team. The D should have been blitzing and playing man alot more. But, overall Boise State is a good team that we should give a little more credit for the loss. I doubt we’ll see another team that plays that smart and is that discipline.

Next, we need a coach who’s got more than a pay check interest in UGA…time to try an alum again, and why not?…UGA probably has as many or more top alum coaches out there as any other school. Obvously Peterson is one the top 5 coaches in CFB, but he’s already turned down tons of top jobs, he aint leavin. We missed out on Muschamp, and that may come back to haunt us.

Prior to this game, I thought that Georgia would beat out Boise due to their bigger, physical lineman on both sides of the ball, but overall, it comes down to execution. Coach RIcht and Bobo need to unleash the this teams inner beast. Coaching will usually triumph over overall skill and size. Hopefully those coaches are taking notes, but overall, I (still) think that Georgia is in the drivers seat to win the SEC East, take it one week at a time, beat USC next week and let this loss be motivation for the team for the rest of the season.

Did anyone pay attenton to what the announcers said about Boise State? Most of the starters are 5th year seniors and UGA is a very young team. They have very little experience but with their talent they will only get better. The main problem with UGA is still the O line. Thier running game was non existant. And look at the running backs. Ga. Tech has better running backs than UGA. If the running game doesn’t improve UGA is in for a long season. Solution: UGA better start running a form of the spread offense where the passing game sets up the run. Also Boykin would be my running back. He has the big play ability the running game desperately needs. And as for the passing game Tavares King needs to ride the pine. He looks as bad as Stepthen Hill looked last year for the Jackets.

I was just surprised that we didn’t line up in the I most of the time, that’s where I wanted to see Crowell. Finally, in the second half when we went to the I and started running play-action, we went down the field in a few plays and then Bobo goes back to the spread and killed the drive…so typical of his play calling. I think back to last year against Auburn when they couldn’t stop us in the first half running our normal sets, and then he starts a drive with the wildcat on 1st and 2nd down and kills that drive and our momentum…so typical.

“Are You for Real” — you nailed it. No EXECUTION by the o-line, and it doesn’t matter what plays you call. If we ran toss sweeps, they would fail, and people would clamor for more power runs up the gut. If those failed, they would clamor for more screens. If those failed, they would ask why we aren’t stretching the field with long passes. Those were especially hilarious since the DB was consistently behind our slow receivers. We should have underthrown those balls to the back shoulder. But Murray did not read the coverage or anticipate how slow our receivers were, or how much cushion they were getting.

Anyway, Bobo is not the problem. All plays look bad when the don’t work.

And all plays don’t work when you lack EXECUTION.

The hand writing was on the wall after GA’S first offensive series. Three penalties and down hill from there on. Not until the game was essentially over did Bobo change up but still had little affect since the D was gassed and could not stop KM and the BSU offense. the D held their own up until the end of the half, then again, it was downhill from there on.

GA cannot run up the middle. Its been that way for several years yet the oline seems to be talented enuf to play at the next level (NFL). Its time to completely scrap the current offensive scheme and sorry to say the 3-4 isn’t working for UGA. The players looked lost out there on D. They cannot defend the short passing game. That will play into SC’s hand next week.

Lastly, its time for complete change in coaching staff. Mark Richt has become the Coach hawkins of UGA football. CMR cannot right this sinking ship. No matter what smoke screens come out of Athens when the smoke does clear nothing has changed and in fact its getting worse. Mighty Casey has struck out (again).

AM could read the field b/c he had zero protection, lol! His backside was hurried all night, he never could step up in the pocket. Hard to look good as a QB if you have zero protection. The problem is we still have no OL. That is 2 years at least away from getting better. That is such a huge problem that Bobo and Richt are going to look real bad as the season goes on if this group doesnt step up.

You want to know why?

Because I new this inept staff couldnt coach this team back to victory and I sure wasnt going to stay in traffic and get home after 3 am

Im not even saying we should have won but good grief the same play calls with one trick play that works for a td and then back to the same ol crap, give me a break man

No the entire stadium should have emptied 6 mins to go in the 3rd qtr to send a message to this staff that you learn to coach better and earn your high dollar pay or learn to fill out unemployment papers

Richt can’t carry Dan Hawkins’ jock strap. Which is why UGA lost to freaking Colorado last year. That WAS due to predictable play calling. Running up the gut to set up FG, so obvious, and COLO calls run blitz and forces fumble. Go for the dang TD, not the FG. A little play-action short pass there wins the game. Pitiful.

Anybody that thinks play calling is not a huge part of the problem doesn’t know jack about football. Yes the o-line was getting beat alot by good d-lineman, but that means that you adjust your play calling to maximize your potential, not run up the middle out of the spread. That’s why the play-action out of the I was working the FEW plays that we used it. But, we should have established the run and play-action out I alot sooner. IMO Bobo is not capable of calling plays at this level, the DC’s are way ahead of him and since the head coach can’t see that, then he has to be held accountable.

I was watching the game on TV so I’m not sure, but I hope that it wasn’t UGA fans being so loud on our first two possessions, it seemed to me that it was causing the false starts, but I doubt the Boise state fans could’ve been making that much noise..I hope i’m wrong.

Now I see why UGA had such a hard time finding a defensive coordinator. No one wants to be responsible for a defense that ends up on the field 40+ minutes every time they play a top team. 3 & out is a recipe for poor defense in the final minutes of a game. If this offense only put up 21 on Boise, it’s not likely they will fare very well against SEC defenses. UGA fans, pray for a 5-win season so we avoid a more embarrassing bowl loss than last year.

How long do we endure???

September 4th, 2011
1:35 pm

UGA has been rebuilding since the year that we did go to the Sugar Bowl and play hapless Hawaii. THAT was eons ago.

Why do we have to endure year after year with CMR?? It is time NOW to pull the plug on his era. That Oklahoma State U game told me all that I needed to know about CMR and his staff. We are horrible and it is a lack of proper coaching. Period.

Book it. SC will put up 34 on UGA and we will look exactly like we did last night. CLUELESS. UGA has no brand identity, as we are neither fish nor fowl. Are we a rushing team or are we a passing team? Answer: Neither.

Our O line id woefully inadequate and that LIne Coach Coach Friend is also a failure. HC needs to sign every year in the SEC, 6, 7 or 9 BIG BOY O linemen and CMR has gone after all world kids only to be snuffed and we end our luckily with Kenarious Gates from east Ga and now he is hurt. He was a last minute recruit two years ago and now even he is injured. We have maybe three frosh back ups. Not good and this will NEVER win in the SEC. Last night proved that.

UGA is in deep trouble.

Gotta lay this one at the foot of the coaches…just like last year, Georgia is not mentally in the game…3 penalties in the first drive? Accepting the ball after winning the toss, knowing your defense is probably better than your offense? Bobo is so predictable on offense it’s stupid..penalty on first play, was going to be a pass..2nd & 15 and we run? Come on Mike, help us out here. There are a lot of holes in this team and as much as I love Coach Richt as a person, he’s gotten outcoached time and time again. That being said, Boise is a very good team, they’ve beaten some top programs and we only lost by 2 TD’s..eliminate some of the mental mistakes and this could gone either way…but coaches are responsible to make sure there are no mental mistakes

Devout Tech fan here, but I am very disappointed that UGA didn’t mop the floor with Boise St. I was really hoping ya’ll could eliminate them from the NC conversation early. Now, they’re a shoe-in for the title game because they don’t play anyone else that’s even worth mentioning. I almost have to feel this one was well-deserved though, purely due to Boykins trash-talking/tweeting in the days leading up to it. Kharmas a b***h Boykins, I suggest you grow up a bit and remember that or it WILL nail you again! Overall, UGA didn’t look THAT bad (although the play-calling was a joke IMO — ya’ll can do MUCH better than Bobo at OC). They say the biggest improvement in a season comes between weeks 1 and 2 — lets hope they are correct. Ya’ll still have a chance at a special season, God knows the talent is on the field, it’s just not being lead/coached well (2-9 in the last 11 versus top-10 ranked opponents does NOT make an elite, or even upper-level program). Improve enough to take out SC and you should still have a 9+win season. Lose that one and I’m betting things start coming apart at the seams for this squad. I truly hope that doesn’t happen. Good luck on the rest of ya’lls season, up until November 26th anyway!!!!

For the first seven years that CMR was at UGA one of his best friends was a tight end coach who the players respected and whose worth and influence on the team extended beyond the OL. One reason I have little respect for CMR as a person is that he sat by and allowed Bobo to run off this coach, who was only earning about one hundred thous. a year at UGA, because he demanded excellence, both on and off the field, and because his values were “old school”. After this coach left at the end of 2007. the team began a slow rot from the top.

Offensive line played terrible! So much for all that strength and conditioning talk. Outplayed by BS defense that they outweighed by 30-40 pounds per man. Really, all those sacks. We have a history of being burned by the short-yard pass — when are we going to learn to defend it? Team looked lethargic and lacked enthusiasm. Coaches and players will have to reach down deep to avoid being embarrassed by SC. Maybe time to make a Smart call.

I don’t normally post, but the disaster at the dome requires all good fans to express their opinions to at least keep what remains of our collective sanity.

My biggest problem with last night was the failure of Coach Richt to realistically assess what his team’s strengths and weaknesses were leading into the game and adjust accordingly. His initial decisions showed that he doesn’t understand his team. For some reason, he elected to take the ball after winning the toss, putting an offense with a mediocre line and green skill position talent on the field against a veteran defense instead of his defense that should be much better in its second year with better personnel (and showed signs last night despite being put in awful situations). He then compounds this mistake by refusing to play a smash mouth running game (running behind a lead blocker would help), using two tight end sets (to take advantage of our depth at tight end) controlling the clock, and taking advantage of excellent special teams to win with an old fashioned game plan. Even though this formula would have produced a loss last night, it would show that Richt was adapting to his personnel, and we would have a legit shot of winning ten games this year with our schedule and this formula.

Instead, we throw the ball downfield to receivers who can’t get separation, didn’t max protect our quarterback, ran sideways and without a lead blocker (most of the time, with a notable exception being boykin’s run) and ran no huddle, keeping our defense on the field too long.

It comes down to being realistic about who you are and what you can do well. I don’t get the impression that Richt thinks about this kind of stuff, as we trot out the same offense/philosphy every year regardless of our talent. And as to our talent, you will never have better talent than the #1 QB (Stafford), #1 RB (Moreno), #1 Wideout (Green), a 2nd round Wideout (MoMass), another NFL RB (Thomas Brown) and NFL lineman (Boling) on the field at the same time. That team never even played for the SEC title, much less won anything of significance. Why? Coaching.

It’s time for a change. We ought to be on a plane to Starkville in early December and we should kidnap Mullen and bring him back to Athens.

Richt’s loyalty (to good people) inferior coaches has cost him his job…Martinez’ D (way too long to dump him) wasted some good Offensive teams and Bobo is in no way a D1 OC.

Its the Scheme Stupid. Our offense is stale. We run the same plays we have run for 10 years. How did Boise get so many receivers open so wide I oould complete a pass to tehm? Its the Scheme Stupid.
And Whats with no names on the back of the Jerseys. We don’t have programs at home. How can we get to know the players? Put names on the back of the jerseys. Not doing so is disrespectful to the fans.

Columbus

September 4th, 2011
3:55 pm

We have the players, but inexperienced players, especially on the lines and other than QB, no positions matter more than the lines. Coaching is fine, offensive and defensive play calling did suck, but there were injuries also. its hard to blitz with a freshman backup CB in and leave him one on one or have inside linebackers that are freshman and walk-ons.

Yes better play calling. Bobo is on thin ice.

Columbus

September 4th, 2011
4:05 pm

I forgave Bobo for the runs up the middle early when it set up the sweep for the TD but after that, we hardly ran outside and for goodness sakes, dump the ball to the backs! Like Boise did.

It keeps pressure off the QB and it gets the back in position to eat up some yardage and make it 2nd and short or 3rd and short, at minimum because many times it will bew a 1st down!

Bobo has NEVER thrown to the backs. No screen passes, no dumps over the middle, none as a security blanket for the QB. NEVER! Well maybe once every 3 games. This is crucial in offensive success especially when you have Crowell being an excelling receiver and runner, give him a couple steps of space to get going and watch him run. Figgins can catch too.

Wasting a GREAT oppurtunity and hurting the offense because of not using the weapon. Could be getting first downs but instead making it EASY on the defenses as they dont have to worry about it and can focus totally on the receivers and rushing the QB.

If we do throw to the backs it it is a win-win situation. If we dont, its a lose-lose situation and stupid to tell you the truth. Even when we had Moreno we did not do it much.

NEVER under Bobo have we utilized the backs out of the backfield and it killed us last night. Boise did, we didnt. Boise won.

The Georgia offensive strategy for winning game is “completely…mindless”. Here are are just a few
criticism that are fair and deserve recognition:
1. Georgia is undisciplined likely due to poor coaching.
2. Georgia coaches lack the intellectual ability to ’spacially see’ what needs to happen in the game.
3. Georgia coaches neglect to ‘carry out’ their own ‘game plan’ strategies.
4. Georgia coaches “fear” the consequences of “measured risk”.
5. Georgia coaches lack the basic intelligence and imagination to implement a ‘wise game strategy’.
6. Georgia coaches lack the intellectual skills to “make” and “coach” the necessary adjustments.
7. Georgia coaches lack the discipline themselves to expect “mental toughness” from their players.
8. Georgia coaches have the poorest minds for attending to the “details’ necessary in football.
9. Georgia coaches are far to “lax” and “hands-off” in assisting the players with life skills.
** Admittedly, these are very general criticisms, but originate from the “glaring inconsistencies, errors, miscalculations, and mental deficiencies observed in Saturday evenings game.

The uniforms were fitting, they highlighted a team who had lost their identity. As the helments coming off disregard that it’s the equipment as both teams were wearing the same uniforms for this game, but only one, UGA, kept losing the helments. Trever Maddox of ESPN made a point that I have felt has always been a fact with UGA Quarterbacks, in that they throw to the reciever rather than leading the reciever. Proof is pass after pass by all the UGA QB’s in the last 10 years thrown BEHIND the reciever. I think one of CMR’s downfalls is not hiring proven coaches for his staff but wanting to bring in young guys to develope them into his system. If he brings someone who has experiance it seems as he trys to mold them to his system and stiffles their effectiveness. I don’t think bringing Smart in to replace him is the answer, I don’t think Chris Peterson would come here, and trying to hire a head coach from another SEC school would have shades of the Arkansas/Nebraska deal. Skip Holtz could be a good choice and D. Dooley is better off where he’s at.

The problems. 1) A new S&C coach. If you have to call a time out in the 3rd quarter – right after half time, because your players are gassed – your players are not in shape AGAIN. 2) Our $750k DC, who can’t game plan. As soon as Boise went to the hurry up, and bunched up their receivers to one side of the field, their receivers were wide, wide, open. If your playing a zone, receivers should not be open by 10 yards. 3) Our OC is clueless. No strategy, no game plan. 4) the head coach, who hired 1,2 and 3. The solution – must clean house and start over.

Paul, the coaches at UGA are not the same ones who were here during CMR’s successful years. Most of them got sick of being underappreciated and underpaid by CMR so they left. The ones that were fired were also snapped up by better coaches. cmr puts on a good facade but in reality, he is out of touch. That’s what pulling in multi- millions and relying only one trusted underling does. His wife is a genuinely nice, sincere person who really does care about the families of the coaching staff. I’m willing to bet she writes those pretty letters for him.. Unlike CMR Richt, most of us are capable of venting our opinions while also holding down tough jobs that if we are lucky , might pay about one percent per year of CMR’s income. I’ll tell you this much…..

The only way this team wins this year is IN SPITE of their coaching staff! These kids deserve better than this. While I may fault them on effort in the end it is the responsibility of these coaches to get them prepared for this game

Fellow Dawgs I have held my tongue so to speak but it is painfully obvious that Mike BoBo has no clue as to the flow of a game. Also Coach Richt had better get some actual fire in his belly or he will lose this bunch of players like he lost the handle on his last 2 teams. This playing guys because of seniority has got to go, if you can’t put your best players on the field, why are you coaching? Also why are we so short handed on the offensive line? It is because Coach Richt once again does not seem to get it, you have to be able to consistently run and pound the football to be a consistent winner. This finese stuff only works if you have far superior offensive linemen in the first place.

Now we lost to a better team, I dare say one of the BEST teams in the country, but I also dare say we shouldn’t have lost to them. As we had the superior tallent or at least wise that is what we have been led to believe. If the Dawgs come out flat again next week, BoBo continues to have no clue as to flow of a game and we don’t put our best players on the field we will lose to South Carolina. Why did Samuels start? He hadn’t practiced in 2 weeks also he was very ineffective when he was practicing and we know when he was the starter in 2009 how that turned out. Anyways I will be hoping and praying that adjustments can and will be made to at least make a better showing next week.

I have watched the Dawgs several years and I agree about all the hype with these recruits over the years is that. JUST HYPE! That has to be the SLOWEST Off/Def lines the past 2 seasons, I have ever seen in 15 years. Both groups couldn’t move out of their own shadows without blowing wind! And Off linemen, get freaking bigger splits! Giver #1 some place to run and keep A Murray upright long enough to find a guy open. King needs to be benched! Insert Malcolm. And Defense, the leading tackler doesn’t need to be a defensive back! When he makes the tackle it’s 10 yards too late! Robinson is soft, the DLine needs to get nasty. Heck the entire team does. Don’t be surprised if Clowney isn’t in the backfield the enitire day next Saturday. I say go after Va Tech’s Bud Foster as the new HC! Things would change then! GATA Dawgs!!!

We were lied to by the Georgia coaches. That’s a firing offense. There didn’t appear to be any strength and conditioning improvement. The Boise no-huddle offense proved we were not in condition to play. The horrible game-plan that Richt-Bobo brought was inadequate, particularly since Georgia had been preparing (presumably) for eight months for this game. Moore ate us up with pin-point passing — so much for Grantham’s defensive improvement — no pressure on Moore at all. This is going to be a long season, as will the next 2-3 as Richt’s eventual replacement will have to recover a broken team.

I knew bobo in college, he was d-bag then, when cmr hired him I was shocked. No experience, avg qb in college, nothing like the man cmr is off the field. I was totallybshocked, so this last 3 yrs have been nothing of a surprise to me. It’s unfortunate bobo will take him down. Dan Mullen, come on over and enjoy your lake oconee home more often! Mcgarity make the darn call, it’s over folks time to move on. You saw what Bowden did in FSU by hanging around, they weren’t heard of for almost 10 yrs on the national stage, wonder where cmr learned how to coach. In the end it comes down to money and donors anyway, while the AD may be behind him in the open, it won’t matter when folks writing checks have finally had enough.

Third lets not forget Boise State has 25 seniors some of which (18) have been playing together for 5 years! Also they play on blue astroturf and so had some advantage there as well! Yes we lost and frankly we deserved it! However, suck it up and lets get ready to finish this year out strong! Use this game as a wake up call and let’s finish the year out with a bang! I have been a Richt supporter even through last year; but, The Boise game was my undoing. Weighing “50lbs” more per man across the line we couldn’t run the ball. We didn’t use our athletic advantage except on 3-plays…all TD”s I might add…defensively, we were pathetic…no pressure…none…few if any blitzes…We should have matched them one on one all over the field and sent the house everytime they went back to pass…we should have hit that midget QB in the mouth on every pass play…we took five sacks…Moore took none…we were bigger…stronger…faster…more athletic..and better at every position on the field; and yet, lost by 2 touchdowns and the game was not as close as the score would dictate…go ahread coach Richt…tell us how we know nothing about football…tell us how we think we know but don’t…go ahead tell us….well, I might not know anything about football…but, I recognize a tail kicking when I see one…South Carolina is put up or shut up time…come out at least competitive…or don’t bother to show up for practice the next week…and as I said, I have been one of the man’s most ardent supportters…but, enough is enough

Watched from Afghanistan.

Georgia has a lot of players (?) that should be extras in the remake movie “Blob”.
With our defense, the offense needs to score at least 50 points a game to be competitive. With our offense, the defense needs to hold the other team to 10 points maximum. WE HAVE A DISCONNECT!

I haven’t read the previous comments, but I did see where a “walk-on” LB (Sluder or something like that) made several unassisted tackles and Mark Richt commented on how good he’d done.

Think it’s time to recruit players that appreciate playing, an education, and are willing to contribute to something besides their on ego? BSU had a host of those guys who know they aren’t going to play pro football.

Let’s recruit COLLEGE players and not professional farm teamers.

I wanted to first state that I totally understand your frustrations with your coaching staff. I would also like to say that you will not take our Coach PETE away from us, I dont know if he will ever leave because money is not the driving force for him. You guys are very humbled from this game and I appreciate it. You have a good team, good athletes, and a so-so coaching staff. We controlled both lines of scrimmage which was very surprising, all they hype was your lines outweighing us by 50 lbs a peice. Boise State is not big, but they play very physical and they know their assignments, they do stray too far away from where they are supposed to be.

I hope that the rest of the DAWGS can show up to play like Boykin did, that guy is good, really good. Aaron Murray has a lot to learn, he cannot stay in the pocket as long as he did against us, especially in the SEC. I wish you guys the best of luck for the rest of the year and hope that your coaching staff either pulls their heads out of the deep end or look for a new place of employment. As a strong Boise State fan, I will now say GO DAWGS.

On the sidelines or the field Bobo needs to call it quits and go to another team, like a high school team. CMR has let his loyalty cost him his job. If that’s what he chooses then let it be. He fired the defensive coaches out of pressure and Bobo should have been with them. He will not get another chance to hire a new OC for next year. Observations from the BSU game:
Same problems as last year…
- defensive line cannot shed blocks!!! It seems all they are coached to do is to hold ground w/the opposing o-line. We desperately need a disrupter on the line i.e. Richard Seymour, Charles Johnson.

- o-line cannot open holes. Crowell could be great if he only had a crease to run through. His pass protection needs a ton of work though.

- no creativity with the offensive scheme. If the opposing team shuts down the run, our offense becomes very easy to defend. Bobo should recognized this and add wrinkles to the game plan. Perhaps get Lemay in there for some run/pass option plays.

Lastly,

- extremely disappointed that our o-line & d-line, while larger in size, were manhandled by BSU. Everything begins up-front!!! If this does not change, uga is in for a very long year and, for the first time in my mind, I question Richt’s ability to hold his job. I think Richt is a great coach, but ever since he turned the offense to Bobo, things have gone downhill (exception when we had Stafford & Moreno – all pros). Just taking Florida as an example – if Richt thinks that Bobo is on the same intellectual level as Charlie Weis, he’s not thinking clearly. Also, no one has come close to the defensive genius Van Gorder brought to the other side of the ball. I think I would be stating the obvious in that if Richt left… the incoming new coach would NOT retain either of the coordinators, nor would either of them be picked up by other D-1 teams on a lateral move. That, my friends, speaks volumes…

CMR was certainly not thinking clearly when he bragged about the D scouts beating the starting O, but one person that did do well was DE Christian Robinson with numerous tackles. UGA will improve but so will other SEC teams. CMR supporters, shed no tears for him when he departs as a multi-millionaire many times over at the end of this season. Good pay for phoning it in for the past four years. Those of us who followed CWF for years felt that CMR sealed his fate when he allowed Bobo to bring in friend Friend from UAB.

Bobo is Not The Problem

September 5th, 2011

Why I will NEVER contribute a dime to UGA is due to the incredibly shoddy financial management exhibited by the Athletic Association. Whenever we fire a coach, we pay them millions, thanks to stupid long-term contracts. They used to give “rolling” 7-year contracts, so whenever you fired a Ray Goof, you owed him for 6 more freaking years. Unbelievable.

To the person who said they hope this is a “wake-up call”, if you weren’t already woken up from a 6-7 season, you are incapable of being awakened. You are dead.

The first game of the season should not need to serve as a “wake-up call”.

Especially in the head coach’s 11th season.

Why is he not already awake?

This game was lost on Friday when Richt downplayed the importance of this game by saying our goal is to win the east and that starts next week.

This gave the players an excuse for not being motivated. Good job Coach.

What is the problem? How can we consistantly have illconceived game plans on offense? We need to find one thing we do well…and be the absolute best at whatever that is. Why partially install a complicated spread offense when we have 3rd year players last year that didn’t understand the existing complicated yet unsuccessful offense!? I wish we played offense like Alabama–smashmouth. Somebody would have to convince Richt to sign a few more O-lineman instead of signing 19 tight ends.

For seemingly the 5th year in a row our whole season hinges on one injury. Same Olineman oes down 2 years in a row and that was why we couldn’t compete. AJ is out 4 games and that is why we can’t compete. This year our stud ILB goes down and again…we have nobody ready to step in. Injuries occur on every team…but our team is the only one where a single injury derails the whole season. AND Richt admits it in interviews afterwards.

How can we so consistantly trot out a team that a good players but play totally uninspired.

I can’t stand the fire this guy now notion because we are not going to switch during the season. Do you people calling for Richt’s head today really want a coach that would quit on his current team? Bobby Petrino we don’t need.

We are here and this is what we’ve got–11 more games (a bowl game would be a miracle judging from Saturday’s performance). I am interested in seeing what happens. I think the line for the SC should be 30 points.

WnE – you are spot on with your analysis. As for everyone else. I had an interesting lunch about a year ago with an assistant Coach at South Carolina. When asked, “what do you think is wrong at UGA?” I expected to hear its the assistants or the recruits. Instead, he said simply, “its the head coach”. The difference between our bloviation and his is that he is he inside of the SEC coaching profession and knows the difference. This is no different then when outside experts talk about our own respective fields of business. Point being, CMR’s first and only good hire was BVG. He left in 2004 and so went our team. If you want the real deal, CMR has to go. The heir apparent may not be BVG, but at least it wont be the facade you saw on Saturday or have been seeing for the last 7 years.

I don’t think it’s Bobo. While he may call the plays, Richt is the boss and could say “no” we’re not going to do this. By not doing so, he gives his tamp of approval to Bobo’s scheme if there is a scheme.

Bobo’s a poor OC because he doesn’t understand football. If you can run over them, use the pass to keep them honest and vice versa. Don’t start all this other stuff when you got stuff working for you. Go with it ’til you can’t go anymore and then do something else. And have a plan to do so.

Frankly this game looked like it was played on January 6, 2011 because they looked the same to me last night as they did on December 31,2010 against that football goliath, UCF, against whom we scored two field goals! Our coaching staff, beginnng with Richt, is way over its head. And if we fire Bobo or demote him, who in their right mind would want the job unless it had the cash attached to it a la Grantham. Given that we had 8 months to prepare for Boise’s (that a small town in Idaho) offense, that we pay our D coordinator $750,000 a year, and that Boise (that’s a small town in Idaho) scored 35 points against a defense whose players are bigger, faster and quicker than Boise’s (that’s a small town in Idaho) offensive players should be enough to tell us that we have serious coaching problems. Notice I did not say our players were stronger or in better shape than Boise’s ( by now you may be aware that is a small town in Idaho) because the Broncos were clearly more physical and never seemed to get tired. In summary, it was pretty pitiful and CTG is overpaid and over matched. However, he is getting paid a bunch of money, and that’s pretty amazing.

How does a 280 pound center block a 350 pound nose tackle? Apparently by being technically sound and in better shape. How sad is that? It does remind me of those Bear Bryant teams at Alabama back in the day with offensive lines outweighed in every game who kicked the bigger d-lines all over the field. There were lean, mean, quick and strong. They actually fired off the line before the defense had even thought about moving. Firing off the line is not something we are taught to do (apparently).

How does an offensive line averaging 340 pounds not block a much smaller d-line from a small town in Idaho? Well, that d-line was quicker, actually stronger, in shape, and extremely well coached. Fat guys tend not to be able to block quick guys. Fat guys tend to get tired real quick. Fat guys tend to get nervous when the guy across from them is obviously quicker than they are and have false starts, etc.

None of this is rocket science, but it is apparently too complicated for our coaching staff.

11:32 pm

it is funny.. you guys are mad at the defensive line. No one ever sacks Kellen Moore because the ball is out of his hand on time, evertime. I do not understand why you would put this on the d line.. that is on the cover guys sort of but alot of passes on 3rd down were completed for short of 1st down yardage.

Also Boise State has led the nation in sacks last year. Because they have pretty good coverage. All of the sacks were because noone was open or waiting for something better.

Doug Martin was 22-57 running the ball… pretty good d line play.

Harper had some yards late but did not break and 80 yard run like he did against VT.

Boise just played cleaner than they did the year before against Va Tech.

And that was bad luck for you all. This group of Broncos looked to be pretty disciplined.

Boise is a Top 50 TV market so not really a small town.. Yes we do not have a 200 year history in CFB but that does not win too many games anymore so I have no idea how that would help.

How’s that crow tasting, Boykin? That tweet was pretty stupid, wasn’t it? Recommend you not throw the enemy red meat in the future, especially since the team can’t back up the words with action…

Boykin, that tweet just showed us all that the Dawgs are a bunch of undisciplined, “it’s all about me” gangsta ghetto rappers with dreadlocks so long that their helmets can’t even stay on. What a joke… You are all one collective disgrace to the university and the State of Georgia. The SEC should kick UGA out of the conference.

UGA should have to wear those uggly Nike uniforms for the remainder of the year. Actually, they should have to wear them as long as we still have the most incompetent coaching staff in the NCAA.

At this point, the Board of Regents need to fire Adams and McGarriity too. They also bear responsibility for the sorry state of Georgia football. Adams is one of the slimiest people I have ever shaken hands with.

At this point, it will be very difficult to get a top quality coach for several reasons. First, Adams is too cheap to pay market rates for a proven BCS winning coach. Second,, since we have kept Richt so long that our program is completely decimated and the fan base is rioting, a new coach will prefer not to jump into such a hot LZ. Finally, the gangsta rappin dreadlock culture embedded into the team after eleven years of laissez faire is everywhere Richt means that any coach will have a very hard time changing the culture over a single season. It will take several years… So get real about who the next coach might be. It does, however, need to be an old-school disciplinarian.
Peterson would be great. If you can’t beat em, then join em!

Lawd, I pray the Bulldogs will beat SC and watch these haters jump right back on the bandwagon. Lawd, I pray the Bulldogs win the rest of the games and shut up all these haters and experts.

Why all the Bobo haters and no Grantham haters? Our D got dominated…just as much as our O line.

RED DOG, how much mediocre coaching do you want the rest of us Dawg fans to endure before deciding we need a coaching change in order for ‘your’ team to, as you say, “do well again one day”?!?!?!

Please remember – this is a football game – only a football game – too many of you take this stuff way to serious – there is more to life – some of you are so pathetic that you have to come on blogs and tweeter to bash players, fans and coaches over a silly game of football – why do you take a loss so personally that you have to make threats from the safty of your computer – try to focus more on your family, jobs and schooling than you do on a game that has no effect on your future – lay off, lighten up and have fun – live is too short to worry about the outcome of a football game – some of you so called fans are a real joke and then there are those of you that are fans of other teams that have to come on here and make comments – it is funny how you think that you are a better person in life b/c a team that you pull for wins – REALLY? not true my friend – not true-you are still who you are and by the way most of you blog on here – your true colors come out -

do most of you realize that GA got beat by the best team they will play all year – Boise was ranked 5th and GA 19th – if GA would have won it would have been an upset – you guys think just b/c Boise is not in some major conference that they should loss to all teams that are – not true my friends – they started more experienced guys on both sides and it showed – if you are a true GA fan just pull for the team – Win or Lose – then you can evaluate at the end of the year – and please ignore the trolls – I mean think about it – what type of person comes on a blog and bashes people – you got it a coward from the safty of his computer -

@Fans get over yourself — might be the most sensible post on here all weekend.

As for everything else, let’s face it. That Broncos team was well coached and found holes in the UGA defense mainly over the middle (and yes, I believe they properly exploited the fact that Tree was hurt .. not an excuse, but good coaching, it is what it is.) BSU played very well on both lines which was a disappointment from this UGA fans perspective because I believed from the beginning the game would be won by a dominant defensive line. I just didn’t think it would be BSUs. Great game BSU.

Coaching? I know many on here want CMR gone. And yes, the last 2 years and 1 game into this year, haven’t been pretty. But I myself have enjoyed those years because though many trolls have called us irrelevant or lower echelon of SEC and all that, they forget that UGA was considered a top program from 2001-2008. Through much of the same period however 2000-2008. I don’t think Bama fans took to highly to their program being called irrelevant in the early to mid 2000s when they posted some very woeful records themselves. Most on here need to think about the records in the 10 years plus with CMR and the 10 years or so BEFORE CMR. If it doesn’t work out this YEAR and not the first two games, then fine, but let’s let a year play out first.

The dogs will fare better in the passing game this week, as SC’s secondary is still pretty weak.

Murray will find some open receivers, if he has time in the pocket of course.

A little premature to say that, but if it makes you feel better about losing to them then by all means bark away.

The defense had ZERO sacks….their QB was 28 for 34…i guess…….that sums up Grantham’s usual results………….what a mess on defense…….on offense the team executed on about 7 plays..scoring on 3 of them….they took turns loafing and taking every other play off the rest of their time on the field….effort does not seem to be set at 100%…..i don’t think this will be a quick fix or a cheap fix…
