Pregame update: Bobo in the pressbox; Rambo, Thomas dressed out
7:49 pm September 3, 2011, by Chip Towers
Mark Bradley has a live blog going — as I’m sure everybody already knows — so I’m going to stay away from that during the game.
I’ll post some notes here sometime in the second half and put up my running game story as soon as I can after the game.
Otherwise, here’s what I can tell you so far:
- Mike Bobo was calling plays from the pressbox again on Saturday. The Bulldogs’ offensive coordinator had been calling plays from the sidelines since October of 2009, when he moved down to the field midway through the season “to get a better feel of things” and talk face-to-face with quarterback Joe Cox after a few poor offensive efforts in a row. Now in his fourth season as Georgia’s offensive coordinator and 11th as quarterbacks , Bobo started out coaching from the press box in 2007 and 2008.
- Safety Bacarri Rambo and tailback Carlton Thomas are both dressed out and warming up with the team. Thomas, as you all well know, has been suspended for tonight’s game. It has been rumored and actually reported here and there that Rambo, Georgia’s starting free safety, also is. I believe he is, too, and think Mark Richt is just letting them enjoy the pregame experience. But there has been no official confirmation. I’ll let you know if and when it does.
- CB/PR Branden Smith seemed to be running around without any problem. He sprained a foot last Thursday but didn’t seem hampered in pregame warmups.
- TB Richard Samuel looks slightly gimpy to me but not to a great degree. Just limping slightly. Personally I think we’re going to see more of freshman Isaiah Crowell anyway.
- They don’t really look like Georgia but the uniforms are fine, in my opinion. Like Richt said, the players like them. So what.
- Tight end Orson Charles is rocking a new mohawk, dyed red, of course. Presumably in keeping with UGA’s “spread the red” promotion for the game.

It’s time the Georgia Football program utilized the term transparency as required in Government. How many players are suspended for drug problems, academic failures and other arrests or violations? Does the recruiting team at UGA look at Juvenile records, school suspension, arrest and
criminal charges or academic records before offering a place on our football team? Seems we could save our Georgia Football Team and the tutors a lot of time and headaches if we did our homework
before recruiting. Just look at the records Folks!

PJ,
You’re an idiot. That being said, the problem isn’t the kids. It’s the coaches. Crowell is a talent but wasn’t used correctly by that bum of an OC, Mike Bobo. Malcolm Mitchell should have received the first ball of the night and should be our go to guy. We should run more counter running plays to help our otherwise overmatched offensive line. We should not run our receivers 10 yards out before making a cut and utilize a short passing game in the area where the linebackers are vacating so they won’t blitz us every friggin’ play. There is no rhyme or reason to what we are doing on offense, hence the 3 and outs. So the defense has to stay on the field and they get worn out. It’s really not rocket science here. Bobo is the key to it all and has to go now. Period. If Richt wants to stay until the end of the year, fine but Bobo should not call another game. He’s horrible!!

Bet ole Spurrier is biting at the bits and not able to wait until next week. CMR will be outcoached again. Maybe UGA should drop back to Div II.

I bet ole Ray Drew, fresheman line backer could call a better game than Bobo. You see Ray knows what a football looks like. He know that you want to see the referees holding their hands stright up in the air like they are surrendering to the policy, which means a good thing has happened where as Bobo thinks a ref swinging his arms at his waist (incomplete pass) is the thing to go for. BOBO HAS GOT TO GOGO

it’s too late for richt. he has been absolutely promising change ever since the team started drifting toward sorriness. the only change has been in the few faces that have come and gone during the time of “promised change”. his basic pansy philosophy has always remained the same. time for you to go coach where people don’t care whether their team wins or loses. say, “bye”, st. richt; and probably the poorest Bulldog coaching effort in my lifetime.
