No more talk, time to see what 2011 Georgia Bulldogs are made of

The countdown clock running most of this summer is almost down to all zeroes for Georgia and Boise State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. I think we can all agree that we’re glad it’s finally here.

For us sportswriters, you really do get to the point that you’re tired of writing about what might happen and what could happen and about this player and that one. We, too, just want to see a game played so can analyze things from there. We’ll all get to do that come 8:15 p.m. tonight.

Before we do that, I wanted to make sure you had everything you might want to read up on about the game. Both Tim Tucker and I have been writing about this team and this game pretty much daily for the last month and often multiple times per day. Below I’ll list the most recent and most pertinent blogs and stories so you can just click on them in case you missed them or want to revisit a certain story or subject.

In the meantime, I’ll wrap up some household chores before heading down to the Dome to chronicle what promises to be an exciting night of college football. If I don’t see you down there I’ll see you here on the blog before the game.

Now, for some Boise-Georgia talk . . .

Well said, Chip, and nice work. It is almost time for The Dog and Pony Show! Go Dawgs! Two great teams, great venue, ESPN and national audience, and most of all, memorable uniforms–this is what college football is all about.

Wish I could be there in person! I just hope we can keep it close in the first half because I think if we do, we’re going to be the better team later in the game with our physicality and the (hopefully) new found conditioning. They have an outstanding coach and quarterback and that always worries me against a young defense like ours, especially early in the game (and season). GO DAWGS!

Good article about the Columbus connection in the Enquirer online. Figgins, Jones, and Crowell. Don’t want to hype it too much before they play, but you have to like the name TKing put on Samuel and Crowell for Figgins and Crowell, too: thunder and lightning! The Columbus thunderstorm. Let’s hope they live up to the billing! I like CMB’s attitude, he expects them to be great, but doesn’t want to saddle them with unrealistic expectations going into the game. i.e. – the second Herschel. Also, it may take more than one game, and every player is unique, so let them play and develop–Go Dawgs.

We may come out OK if Murray doesn’t get hit with the sophomore jinx, our OL is much improved, someone steps up to take A. J. Green’s place, our defense is much improved and Crowell and Samuel can run the ball without fumbling, and their QB doesn’t thread the needle all night long. I just regret that we won’t get a chance to see Samuel play some on defense in the linebacker spot as everyone had talked about how great he was there.

Game Day ‘Tator Salad recipe:

11 Idaho Spuds
Peel ‘em, smash ‘em, mash ‘em
Throw ‘em in a pot and turn the stove on high
Cover with a Dome, and invite 50,000 friends over to cheer for the cooks
Drain ‘em, smash ‘em and mash moore
(Caution: the Spud Studs to handly can be dangerous if they get too hot)
Ice them, ice moore
Add Blue Cheese, Mayo, Salt, and Pepper

Feed to Teddy Bear because Dawgs are carnivores–they’re waiting for some good chicken in Athens next week!!

John, the Spuds are having nightmares right now–Tree, Jones, Kwame Sunami, Motel 6 coming after them in a cross between a Spiderman outfit and a devil costume–come to think of it, the fans are having nightmares about them, too. As soon as some enterprising Dawg takes it to the house a few times, I predict the Dawg nation will grow to love them!

RGR has gone to start working on his apology to the Dawg fans after BSU loses tonight. He’ll be back later. Please leave a message and he’ll apologize for being ignorant, arrogant, and unrealistic.

Off topic, but interesting. Looks like Oklahoma is ready to jump conferences, based on comments by it’s president, David Boren. He expects to decide whether to leave the Big 12 or not within the next three weeks. I suspect it will be the PAC-12 due the the presidents statement regarding outstanding academics.
