UPDATED: Georgia manhandled in its own backyard by No. 5 Boise State

The question for the Georgia Bulldogs was whether last year’s losing season was a trend or an aberration. While there’s much football still to be played, they could not have liked the answers they got Saturday night.

Facing No. 5-ranked Boise State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome in a game they hoped would return them to national relevance, the 19th-ranked Bulldogs instead were manhandled by their visitors from the Mountain West Conference 35-21 before a partisan crowd of 73,614.

“Boise State just beat us tonight,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “They were better than we were and my hat’s off to them. Our players understand that and our players understand that we’ve got to get a lot done before we play next week and open Southeastern Conference play. We’ve got a lot of work to do. We know that everybody’s 0-0 in league play. Our goal is to win the Eastern Division and that’s not changing. So we have to get ready for that.”

It was the Broncos’ first win in history over an SEC team. They were 0-4 previously. But the former WAC member has won its last five against BCS schools.

“It means a lot to us,” said Boise State’s Chris Petersen, who improved to 62-5 as the Broncos’ head coach. “We have tremendous respect for the conference and for UGA. Last time we were down here it wasn’t even a game.”

The Broncos lost 48-13 to Georgia at Sanford Stadium in 2005.

It was Georgia’s ninth loss in its last 11 tries against Top 10 opponents.

While there certainly was no shame in losing to team ranked among the five best teams in America, the fact that it was the Bulldogs’ were coming off a losing season and have been trending downward was more problematic. It was Georgia’s 13th loss in its last 27 games under Richt. No. 12 and SEC East favorite South Carolina comes to Athens next week.

“I don’t think there’s any deflation,” said Georgia cornerback Brandon Boykin, who stood up and addressed the team after the game. “We were competitive. We know we’re a good team and we know we can bounce back from this adversity. Boise State is not just a good team. They’re a great team and they deserved to win that game. But SEC starts next week and we know what we’ve got to correct.”

In the end, Georgia just didn’t have an answer for Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore. The Heisman Trophy candidate, who is on pace to become the winningest quarterback in college football history, proved unstoppable for the last two and a half quarters of play. He finished with 261 yards and three touchdowns on 28-of-34 passing and was never sacked.

“He’s a very good player so he knows where to go with the ball and when to go there,” Richt said. “They protected him well, too. He rarely got knocked down. . . . We didn’t get enough pressure on him.”

Twenty-one of Boise’s points came in a 12-minute stretch that started with 48 seconds left in the second quarter and ended with the Broncos ahead 28-7 with three minutes remaining in the third.

Conversely, Georgia was not at all sharp on offense. The Bulldogs tried to execute a newly-implemented, no-huddle offense and struggled to make sight adjustments from the press box. They committed three penalties on their first offensive possession and never seemed to get into sync.

Quarterback Aaron Murray was 16-of-29 passing for 236 yards and two touchdowns. Tight end Orson Charles led the Bulldogs with six catches for 106 yards and a touchdown. True freshman wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell, who started the game at flanker, caught a 51 yard TD pass and finsihed with three for 64 yards.

But the much anticipated debut of tailback Isaiah Crowell was anticlimatic from the beginning. He didn’t start the game — junior Richard Samuel did — and found little to no running room behind Georgia’s porous offensive line. Crowell ended up with 63 yards on 15 carries.

“It was tough, it was tough,” Crowell said. “They really ran to the ball well. But it’ll be all right. It was a good experience for all of us. . . . I was real hyped seeing all the fans and support.”

Because Georgia had elected to receive after winning the pregame coin toss, Boise State got the ball to start the second half. And the Broncos knew what to do with it.

They came flying down the field in a hurry-up offense that left the Bulldogs huffing and puffing. Boise negotiated 76 yards in just seven plays when running back Doug Martin scored on a toss-sweep around left end. The drive consumed less than four minutes.

Georgia had a chance to answer, gaining a first down at the Boise 28 on the ensuing possession. But a false-start penalty, followed by a short run, followed by a dropped pass by Tavarres King and sack of Murray left the Bulldogs facing fourth-and-18. Then Blair Walsh’s 54-yard field goal attempt was wide left.

A 49-yard punt return set up yet another short scoring drive for the Broncos that put them ahead 28-7 with 3:10 left in the third, and the outcome was essentially settled.

Georgia would give its fans brief hope when a penalty nullified its punt back to Boise. On fourth and two, Murray hit Orson Charles for a 36-yard touchdown that cut the Broncos’ lead in half with more than a minute left in the third quarter.

But then the game disintegrated into a scoring match and the Bulldogs were too far behind to make up enough ground.

Georgia falls to 9-2 in season openers under coach Richt. It also lost to Oklahoma State in 2009.

Georgia uncharacteristically chose to receive the opening kickoff after winning the opening coin toss and proceeded to have a horrible first possession. After Boise’s line-drive kickoff forced Brandon Boykin to take a knee for a touchback, the Bulldogs were flagged for three penalties – two false starts by tackle Justin Anderson and a delay of game on fourth down — and lost a total of 10 yards before having to punt.

Neither team registered a first down through the game’s first four possessions. But the Bulldogs finally registered a big one on the second play of their third offensive possession.

Brandon Boykin, lining up in the slot left, took a handoff on a reverse right and took it 80 yards for the Bulldogs’ first score of the season. It was the first time in Boykin’s Bulldog career that the senior cornerback had ever played on offense.

After exchanging punts again, Boise answered the score. Taking over at their own 42, the Broncos drove the 58 yards in just five plays, scoring on Moore’s 17-yard pass to wide open freshman Matt Miller over the middle. Miller got the start because sophomore Gerald Boldewijn was suspended for the game. The PAT tied the game at 7-7 with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter.

Georgia was in position to re-take the lead when it reached the Boise 26 on the ensuing possession. But on fourth-and-1, Richt decided to go for the first down. But Samuel was stopped for a loss by Shea McClellin on the dive at right tackle. McClellin was unblocked on a missed assignment by tight end Orson Charles.

The teams exchanged turnovers shortly thereafter. Boise had driven to Georgia’s 26 in four plays when Branden Smith intercepted a Kellen Moore pass near the 15-yard line. But Georgia gave it right back.

On third-and-three at its own 25, Murray attempted to go deep to true freshman Malcolm Mitchell down the left sideline. Mitchell was tightly covered by defensive back Jerrell Gavins, who had inside position and intercepted the pass.

This time the Broncos made Georgia pay. They drove 51 yards in seven plays to score on Moore’s 12-yard pass to tight end Kyle Eflaw. The Bulldogs had a busted coverage on the play, with just three defenders trying to cover four receivers on Boise’s right. The score came with just 48 seconds remaining in the half.

Another year where the Dream team/BCS/championship/world beaters of August comes crashing to the dust in September. It looked like Jacksonville of the past two decades in the fourth quarter: A lot of orange and blue in the stands celebrating and parking lots a sea of red as fans scamper.

Just an embarrassment to the legacy of Georgia….not just for this game, but for the past 2 years (14-13 record). This crap is more of the same. Let this be the “Fire Mark Richt” campaign….been saying it for 2 seasons. Not being a fair-weather fan, just being realistic. If you disagree with me, than you are exactly what this team is….use to LOSING!!!!!

UGA does look good at TE, and got to see what Mitchell can do. couple nice plays by the Frosh.

UGA looked talented on D, a little out of shape, 5 guys calling for break on the 1st series of second half.

Who was that last week that said Muury was as good as Kellen Moore, bet he feels stupid right now.

Actually UGA looked a little better, tighen up on the play calling and block a little better for Crowell and they will be ok

It seemed like the Dawgs were an undisciplined, out of sync team out there. I have no shame in losing to a number 5 ranked team, but we are bigger, faster and stronger than that team and they just played harder and had a MUCH better game plan.

Why do we run it or throw deep so often on 1st and 10? We are so predictable on offense and it makes no sense. Meanwhile, Boise State’s Moore didn’t even have a completion longer than 15 yards. Interesting how he through for 300 or so yards. For goodness sake, let’s use some high percentage plays for once and stop setting ourselves up for 2nd and 10!

I really hope we are more organized next week.

not a good start. I have always been and will always be a bulldog fan, but this is just ugly. bobo’s play calling is as bad and predictable as ever (no ingenuity at all) and our offensive line is simply embarrassing. did we condition this summer? first drive of 2nd half and half of our defense was gassed. I hope they turn it around, but tonight was simply awful.

I like Richt but these guys are pathetic and very…very predictable. There is no coaching…just flashy uniforms and lots of athleticism. Yawn. I predict if UGA doesn’t change it ways, they’ll be lucky to finish at 0.500. It’s time for Richt and the whole bunch to go.

I am a Tech guy and certainly no GA fan, but I have to admit that their uniforms traditionally look great. Red helmets and shirts, silver pants. Why mess around with what has been an indentifying mark for many years? What is with coming out in black? Crazy. And the new uniforms they wore tonight just look stupid. Someone said above they looked like arena league uniforms. Truly. Or maybe XFL. Or something out of a RoboCop movie. Leave a good thing alone. Let them wear the great looking uniforms they have always worn.

By the way, they just got beat by a much better team tonight. Give them credit, though, they never gave up. It would have been easy to quit, but they had heart if nothing else.

I saw some improvement from last year on defense, but that’s about it. And the improvement is like UGA’s comeback attempt…too little, too late. UGA got beat in every phase of the game. Offense, defense, special teams. Boise physically dominated both lines of scrimmage. They had a better game plan and Petersen and his staff ran circles around CMR, Bobo, and Grantham on game management. After Boykin’s run UGA was never really in it. UGA managed a couple of scores on pure talent, but the game was never in doubt. Boise completely dominated the game. It was not as close as the final score. Suffice to say, I very disappointed.

Einstein said insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Well, Mike Bobo must be insane. We have spent the last 2 seasons watching that jerk refuse to open up our offense until it is too late and the game is already lost. Georgia has enough talent and ability to win these games, but with a dodo calling the plays, it will not happen. Coach Richt should be so ashamed of leaving that yoyo in charge of calling the plays. If CMR doesn’t take over the play calling for the USC game, both should be fired right now before the whole season is lost. We have too many talented and great kids playing for us to sit back and watch them waste their college careers playing for such an awful OC. I don’t understand why Bobo or Richt thinks they can keep doing the same thing game after game and expect any thing different to result. Maybe if Bobo would open up the offense in the first half and stop trying to run up the middle against a brick wall (gaining absolutely no yardage) and wasting 1st and 2nd downs, we could win instead of digging ourselves out of a hole. I like CMR, he is a nice guy and a great role model, but if he can’t take control of his OC, then he is needs to go too. It is sad to say, but true. I had so hoped for a better start and a turn around for my beloved team. This is soooo disappointing, to say the least.

Bobo must go. Murray doesn’t play well in big games; he has his moments but he doesn’t make the plays he needs to make. You may say he is a “sophomore” but this is his third year in the system. The defense is better I think than last year but they spent far too much time on the field. Very few sustained drives by the offense not giving them time to rest. I love the dawgs, always will but it is painful to watch them. I read too many blogs this year for my own good, really thought we would see a different team.

SEC can SUCK it.. BSU is better

There’s no shame in losing to Boise State. Boise has been gettng better each year, and has knocked off Oklahoma, Oregon, Virginia Tech, and TCU with the same formula they used to beat Georgia. The Dawgs can still have a decent season. Alabama is probably the only SEC team that could beat Boise State this year.

General Ledger

The offensive line is still terrible. Murray was just hitting the deck on that last drive because he knew he was going to get hit. The offensive playcalling once again seemed terrible. They didn’t seem to make any kind of adjustments. Pretty much send everybody deep and launch it 50 yards or run up the middle. Boise made some great adjustments once they figured out we could get some pressure when they tried to go downfield. Just short stuff over and over that’s difficult to stop. Carolina will eat us alive with the short stuff next week after watching this tape. Run defense was pretty good. Special teams a non factor. The offense looked about as bad overall as it did in the bowl loss, just happened to hit a couple of big plays tonight was the only difference and one of those was only as a result of a boise penalty that shortened a 4th down. Otherwise that would have been a punt. So much for all the hype about the s&c program. The defense had to call a to on the opening drive of the 2nd half because the annoucers said they were gassed. At least we didn’t lose the 4th qtr. It was tied 7 to 7. Hopefully we can make some adjustments and play better next week and maybe turn things around once the schedule levels out a bit but we will certainly lose several more if the offense and o line can’t get it togther. If they can’t, it is going to be another long season and richt and bobo will be gone. We are just still not too good now.

Well, i am now ashamed to call myself a UGA fan. It’t not the loss that i really care about. It’s the way we lose. Totally dominated on both sides of the ball. New conditioning program? New strength program? Yeah right. I will attend the rest of the games as always, but I will do so with a bag on my head to hide my identity. No difference in the team this year and last year, and Crowell? Why didn’t we give the next “Herschel” a chance. All zone read and no power football. Maybe it because the coaching staff knows they are over-matched in the trenches. I have never been on the Fire Richt Bandwagon, but i am now. Purely Embarrassing.

What an embarassment to the SEC!!! The UGA program is in shambles. Here is a program in the state with more top athletes than scholarships and they cannot even beat a MWC team. No way should uga be thin at any position given the talent in the state. The list of deficiencies are long..

1. Michael Adams
2. Richt
3. Bobo
4. Poor conditioning
5. Poorly prepared and poorly coached
6. Predictable play calling
7. Pathetic defense..no intensity and afraid to lay the leather.
8. Poorly trained QB (Bobo again)
9. Poor defensive play calling.
10. LBs are no where to be found.
11. No pentration from the DL

The good news is that I will be over to get some more players over the coming years.

Unfortunately, it just appears to be a continuation of our play for the last two plus years. Todd Grantham does not appear to have any idea about challenging an offense and Bobo is just as predictable and timid as he has always been. I don’t know if CMR has lost his touch, but it sure looks like it. I still love my team but it hurts that we are not competitive any longer. What is painfully clear is that we have a lot of talent on thi year’s team, unfortunately, the coaching staff evidently was unable (since the end of last season) to realize that this offense has become predictable and to make creative adjustments. I’m afraid that they don’t realize that in this world of wide open offenses, FSU’s offense from 15 years ago is no longer leading edge. The coaching staff must quickly learn the lessons that the Boise State game taught us this evening and then make changes to this offense. If we can not or will not be creative, we are doomed to another year of what we have seen over the past three seasons.

In review, I really feel sick thinking about all the bone-headed plays from Bobo the clown and Richt the clown’s foil. We though we won the coin flip, we really lost the game there as we should have deferred. Then Bobo calls, play after play of running into the Boise teeth instead of trying to swing the ball outside where we had more speed and perhaps we could have found some running room around the ends.
Bobo has to go immediately…Richt and the ugly uniforms can follow at the end of the season!@

Pitiful. Never has a coach done so little with so much. Our play calling is, well, sad, and how do we lose the battle on both sides of the line. Bulldawg football is in a bad, bad place, and it is clear Richt is not the man to turn it around. McGarity, time to put out the feelers for an entirely new staff. We should not judge a team after one game. BUT! My comments will be directed to many of you UGA fans who knowingly after 4 seasons of poor play( you were ranked no.1 at one point) came on these blogs and spouted off how good UGA was going to be with this “Dream Team” and getting rid of players who had issues.

The one thing you folks failed to connect to is the coaching staff( and not Mark Richt) are just not very good coaches. With the exception of Todd Grantham there is not a single coach on your staff that is actually hirable by another top 20 school.

So I will wait and save my “told you so’s” till later and if you do not get it now then you need to get on some medication that allows rational thinking.

Now you have USC coming into town. Many of you called Garcia all kind of names and proudly stated that you would be 2-0 after the first two games. In reality, you will more than likely 2-3 after the first five game. If you finish 6-6 thank your lucky stars that Kentucky, Auburn, Ole Miss,Vandy and Coastal Carolina are just horrible teams and you will get wins in those games. But now Tennessee is going to give you trouble, MSU is loaded, Florida is Florida.

Be thankful for 7-5 or 6-6.

A F’N embarrassment. CMR HAS TO GO! This team has some talent… some…. but CMR ruins it. And by CMR, I mean Mike Bozo too. I’m embarrassed to be a UGA fan for the first time in my life…. I predicted this b/c this team is no different than the one that lost to UCF and Colorado. I’m sick of losing. I’m sick of being able to predict this team and see the same blank expressions for a coach that is lost. I love the Dawgs too much to swear off watching them, but I promise that I’m done caring if we lose again until RICHT IS GONE. I will not go watch a game in person again while CMR is there. Once you remove the emotion it”s easy to see the discrepency in coaching and preparation, not to mention Boise has umpteen 5th year seniors. They are obviously a better team. When you have a good team of overachievers vs a talented team of chronic underachievers this is what happens. When you throw bad coaching in, you get a blowout. Murray is a really talented quarterback, but a decent high school staff would be able to figure out what Georgia is going to do on offense. Boise knows how to play football and they know how to win – UGA has slowly progressed to the exact opposite over the last 3 years. And I completely agree with the constant 2nd and 10 (or worse with false starts penalties coming in bunches) causing the dawgs as much trouble as quality opponents. Not to mention a complete lack of pressure on defense. Might be a long year, but I can at least take comfort in the fact that the trolls on here have such pathetic lives that mocking and talking trash to georgia fans is all they have to look forward to…..that and the online porn they watch after their mom goes to bed upstairs.

Yes, the SEC East is very weak this year and UGA could still win a spot in the Dome, but they’re still underachieving, which is what galls me. I don’t mean under achieving here are there. That happens to every team. I mean consistently under achieving. UGA will probably go 9-3 against this schedule. Not good enough.

even though as a tech fan I am biased I will say this, UGA was clearly more talented, but they were predictable, those fifty yard passes are just beyond stupid, that and running it up the middle is so dumb, if it is broken, stop doing it, I am no expert, but seriously, I would try something else. the run defense looked better than it did against us, sometimes, but at other times, dreadful pass rush was non existent despite superior size on D-line, you have a 350 lb nt yet nothing on the pass rush

Reverse works early for a TD so we wait until the fourth qtr to run it again with Mitchell; How do you slow down a pass rush? A new invention called a screen pass that Boise certainly knew about; If we ran one all night I didn’t see it; How do you hurry the quarterback? A new invention called a blitz, only called with 30 seconds left; I don’t understand……

Well its obvious that our caoching staff can recruit, but they don’t appear to be able to coach…Thats very hard for me to say, but I just don’t see any improvement especially with our OC….It appears that Olgetree has a broken foot and will be gone…I guess we can further the destruction of Samuel and move him back to Lb…I wish i were wrong, but he’s not a RB, yet may be our best option…Crowell still needs to learn the blocking schemes….
Our O-line problems are basically poor evaluation or coaching of these guys…They are not improving and were completely manhandled by an undersized Boise St team…Am I wrong, or did anyone see Coach Richt do anything on the sideline to fire this team up…I watched the hated gators new HC very animated on the sideline in pumping his team up….Hate to be negative, but extremely, extremely disappointed and sureprised at tonights game, not so much the score, but the way we looked…Our OC has no clue on putting Murray in the right situations and his playcalling just seems lost at times…Of course its not the coaching fault that we can’t get one yard in two plays which could have changed this game…Same problem as last year so who’s at fault….

UGA was big and fat. They looked bulked up, but looked like they hadn’t run a wind sprint in their lives. Completely out of shape.

Not much mental toughness. I didn’t see a single player try to turn the tide when the going got tough. Most of them were looking for a substitute.

Talent alone won’t get it done. We have zero depth, and very little experience. Our lines were physically dominated. We won’t be good for at least a year under the current systems. If we start new systems under new leadership it could be another 3 years before we’re playing up to the potential of our Talent.

For about 6 years UGA has done a disservice to players that have committed to UGA. For far too many coming in as 4 and 5 stars, they left with no resume. If a player has to be Moreno or AJ Green to leave better than they entered the program then something is wrong with the program.

He’s handcuffed Grantham. There is no disciplinarian now. CMR tried to turn it around with ‘positive thinking.” Like all those “positive thinking” books, its all BS. Positive thinking is great…once you’ve put in the hard work, chewed some butt, and set the standard. CMR forgot the first part. Hairy Perry- Size of fan base, size of stadium, size of your weak ass offensive line don’t mean much. Players heart and coaching are what matter. and the UGAG dreamers simply don’t have it under CMR. I would not expect to see you on a tech blog, it would be way over your reading level. No OL or DL play will lead to a lot of L’s this year for your pooches. Jackets might even grab one of those wins. Nov 26 can not get here fast enough.

CMR started the spin three years ago by firing defensive coaches, adding the Dream Team moniker, and bringing in an old new strength and conditioning coach.

Earlier today I wrote 10 reasons why Georgia was going to be beat Boise St. Not a single thing I wrote came true. Our DL got whipped by a smaller team, our LB’s put ZERO pressure on the QB and our OL was absolutely pathetic. We got out coached and out played.

Like I said earlier, outside of Grantham, there is not a coach on that staff that is hirable by another top 20 team. They recruit like crazy, but if you cannot coach and game plan it does not do much for your team with 4 and 5 star All Americans who do not know how to play at this level.

UGA was out coached plain and simple. I love Mark but it is time for him and this whole staff to get out of Athens. First of all we still have no discipline. Our strength program does not seem to be any better and that does not surprise me we hired someone who use to video tape practices and other things to be the strength coach in the toughest division in college football. How where we cramping up and i never saw one Boise player cramp up. You hear all these comments about how hard the workouts are and all this noise but that does not matter. Anyone can make a workout hard that is not hard to do. Does the work out produce results or does it just exhaust your body. Usually the best workouts when you are working on strength are the ones that leave you wanting more not the ones that leave you dog tired that way your body can recover and grow. I do not think we have a qualified person leading our strenght program and bringing back ex players to help out does not help they might have been good at lifting weights but do they know the science behind what they are doing at this level you really have to know what you are talking about to get results. We were blown off the ball on both sides of the ball. How do boys from idaho beat boys from georgia i know how have great coaches

The team from GA cramping up all over the field.
The team from GA with shoes unsuited to the GA Dome turf.
The home team that can’t remember the snap count, including our all-star. Ben Jones, of all people.
Delays, running sideways, feints in the backfield, cute, cute, cute. Play football. Hit the hole. North and South — Bobo — the goal line is that way — somebody give him a map.
No slants. No quick drops. Screen passes when we have no passing game. Why is a screen pass going to work? Explain please.
When’s the last time we threw a pass to a running back?
Slip screen, inside screen. Boise State has plan, knows what they’re doing, and work sequences off the plan. It’s called having a clue, bozo. The man has to go. Who suggested that Mike Bobo was an offensive genius. Didn’t Richt come to UGA because he was, in part, an offensive genius? When, ever, has Mike Bobo demonstrated, on the field, not with his mouth, that he can run an offense?
Our new conditioning program?
Great. We don’t wait until the 4th quarter to give out of gas now and get our butts handed to us. We do it from the opening kickoff. Quite an improvement.
There is a general sense of disorganization surrounding that team.
Oh, and how about the precision passing of BSU? Uh, there was nobody within a zip code of his receivers on the vast majority of those completions. Where exactly was our safety going on the first touchdown, to the outside? There was no receiver over there. None. And where is Orson Charles going on a 4th and 1? It’s a running play, yet he’s sliding along the line of scrimmage, sliding himself completely out of the play so the BSU monster on defense can come in unblocked and stop the play? Where was OC going, exactly?
This team is lost. They look great running onto the field and jumping up and down. After that, they look lost. At home. They’re embarrassing.
And Richt is smiling on the sidelines, a “dang, I can’t believe that happened” smirk. Well, dude, you’re the head coach. That’s your team out there. Take some responsibility for what happens on the field. Show some passion. Get in somebody’s face. Or, get a ticket. Out of town.

We saw an uninspired team take the field yesterday night and play about as much as they wanted to. HEY Coach Richt I have screamed this for the past 3 years…GET RID OF Bobo. He is a drain on the program and if you look at the results, they AGREE with me. I understand that you are a good man and can conduct yourself in a manner that represents the state of Georgia well and as a southern gentleman I can respect that; but as a fan of THE BULLDAWG NATION I cannot accept mediocrity from the teams that you field. Statistical wise we fared well against a higher ranked team (that absolutely plays no one else this year), and we did get 1 or 4 PWG penalties, but there is NO REASON why we are 0-1 going into SEC play next week. The offense was SLUGGISH, the defense was NON-THREATENING and the overall game plan was PREDICTABLE. For the love of red and black, you have to realize the the DAWG NATION loves you and would like to link your name next to the beloved DOOLEY, but it is now time for you to MAN up, DEMOTE (or better yet allow Bobo to pursue other endeavors), take over the OC role tell CTG that “he has his men this year” and hold the coaches accountable…BECAUSE you know the BULLDAWH NATION is holding you ACCOUNTIBLE and we are not happy with the last 2 seasons and are extremely ANGRY after this poor showing in this game…And yes everyone of use truly believe that we UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS NO INSITUTION MORE WORTHY OF ENVY, NO INSTITUTION WORTHY OF SUCH LOYALTY AS THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA. I am afraid that CMR’s loyalty to Bobo is going to cost him his job. As much as I like CMR, there is simply no way, he can continue to not get involved in the offensive game planning and at the very least, have some input into the play calling. How many times did we try running the RB off tackle, knowing full well that the O line is thin, and did not need to have the extra pressure put on them, of having to fight all night in the trenches. When Crowell went to the outside, he picked up positive yards, but even when he gained 8 or so yards doing that, Bobo went right back to the Woody Hayes playbook of 3 yards or less and a cloud of dust. I remain a loyal UGA DAWG fan, but unless, some imagination and dare I say it, common sense is put into the offensive game plan, it is going to be another long year. The only bright note was the play of a few of the youngsters in their first game. Crowell and Mitchell are going to be good, once the offensive game plan becomes also. The defense was just out there on the field way too much in order to be successful. They looked good for about the first quarter and a half, but started tiring after that. I thyink Bobo needs to study some cutting edge football, because having CMR study it and not get inviolved in the game plan, makes that an exercise in futility.

UGA’s problems are fairly obvious to me.

The receivers and tight ends just can’t come up with the big plans. I saw quite a few catchable passes that were dropped.

Second, Aaron Murray just isn’t the right guy in my opinion. He throws a nice ball but he hangs onto it too long and his accuracy is below average. How many times did he just drop back and throw the long ball when the receiver was not even open? I think the guy has talent, but it just does not fit the skill of guys that he is playing with. Again, the receivers can’t catch or get open, the O-line is average at best, and he holds the ball too long.

When this is the case, I recommend going to a run first quarterback with average passing skills. I hear the second guy on the chart is a runner with shacky passing skills.

A poor game plan by CMR and coaches. If you plan to take the ball on the opening series, you had better be sure your offense can move the ball. Not sure what CMR and Bobo have seen so far to give them the confidence this offense can score. Georgia has not had a running game in almost 4 years. The line play has very poor. You would think Bobo would have learned a lesson from last year’s Arkansas game about RB’s that can not block. But then why should you think Bobo can coach an offense. And if you are going to go for it you definitely need to make sure you do not allow backside / outside pursuit to make the tackle. Once agains Bobo fails to utilize his best players on certain key issues.

Back to the running game. CMR has never understood what an O lineman should look and play like. S&C can go just so far. I am dumbfounded how the O line is simply this poor. Watch their feet, pad level…Will Friend has a lot of work to do, but I’m not it is the players…just the coaches.

What is coming through loud and clear is that UGA does not have one legit SEC caliber coach on staff. Grantham did a poor job on the second half opening drive by Boise. Watch Boises’s cut blocks to give Moore excellent, quick passing lanes, plus those wide spaces the LBs had vacated. The defense chased too much on that drive. You have to force Moore out. Never did that because the D line was cut down.

Frankly I would not be surprised if the AD did not fire this staff after they lose to Carollina.

Very disappointed in the play of this team tonight. It should not have happened. Why does Bobo not put speed to the outside and spread the defense. Boises DB eat up our receivers…and King…he simply can not catch a ball. And when players lose their helmets after every play due to their hair style, a good coach would sit them down until they got their hair cut. Once agains CMR lets his players and Bobo destroy his career and finances.

Top Recruit makes an interesting point. It did seem the UGA players with dreads were losing their hats on a regular basis for whatever reason. I saw a Boise helmet on the ground a time or two, but most of the fly offs were from players with dreadlocks. Somebody needs to get a research team to Jamaica and conduct a study right away. I’m sure a government grant to do so would be very easy to acquire and we could count them as jobs saved or created.

Three glaring things that Bobo just want learn. Our OL is not good enough to run up the middle. If we run It’s got to be around the end or half way down the line. Secondly, Murray was 2 for 13 on 3rd down conversions.Totally unacceptable. And the third thing Moore wore us out with 5 yard slant passes over the middle and then the receiver would get 3 to 5 more yards. Murray has to get 15 to 20 yards or he want throw it. When all you have to do is throw 5 yards the defense doesn’t have time to sack you .That’s why Murray got sacked 6 times tonight. Also , late in the game Murrat could have run for a first down but chose to nearly throw an interception but it was incomplete. Then he did not convert on 4th down and Boise State got the ball. Murray could have kept the possession going if he had run the ball.
I would like to see what LeMay has to offer but CMR would rather lose than be proven wrong about Murray or for that mayyer Bobo.

Something needs to definitely change because I am tired of having mediocre seasons. Since the bcs started dawg fans have had to sit at home and watch Tennessee, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, and LSU win a bcs national title. And I am sick of sitting at home and watching other SEC teams do what UGA needs to do. Clean house in Athens from the top down. Our boys were sucking wind and cramping in a dome that is 73 degrees. It is amazing how many people can use the internet to say bad things about UGA,CMR & staff and anyone else that seems fit to be bitched at. The majority of the haters out here would never say what they feel in person b/c they are usually cowards are have never played adown of football. I do agree UGA needs changes. Unfortunately CMR, should have fired Bobo and hired a offensive genious that could have a whole new set of plays. The 3-4 will never work in college without the right personell. Hire Van Gorder back…. Thy did loose their ofensive line coach and that showed alot tonight. But mostly, the same old thing on offensive, Bobo is predictable and has no imagination, Run the I formation and get 12 yards then never run out of it again. CMR loyalty to Bobo will be one of the reasons he will not be back at UGA. Yes, UGA is a recruiting ground for te NFL and yes we should have a couple of NC since 2001 if we had the right assistent coaches in place. UF, Auburn, LSU, & Alabama have won NC in the past 10 years. How many of their asistant coaches are head coaches now? Louisvile, Miss St. Nebraska and others What I am saying you are what your assistants make you in to. UGA’s assistants are not head coaches in making. Their average and the SEC is not average. If one of your assistants is not getting a Head coaching job are coordinator job within 3 years he is not doing his job….Next weekmis a huge game for the next 5 years at UGA. Stop Garcia, run the ball out of the I formation and put 4 -5 men onthe line to stop Lattimore…. GO Dawgs….

Its going to take nothing short of a miracle to turn this team around. I agree with most of the posts. This is just very sad. 4 years ago i was pulling my hair out over lack of effort and organization….and it wasnt because it just started that year. But it became very obvious then.

It took Richt FOREVER to make the change on D with Martinez…he is slow to recognize the problems or too slow to make adjustments or both. I was so frustrated 4 years ago…..now I fear I am falling into complacency. Its almost expected that they will struggle. You really almost have to go back to the season w Shockley to see the last time that these guys were playing Ga. football. Go back and watch some of those games…they seemed faster and they hustled. They could, Shockley esp., scramble and make something outta nothing. They had determination. These players today look lost.

The Defense was the biggest disappointment to me. Watch this game again and notice how many times Ga. players were upright and just looking around. Arm tackling and having to turn around and chase down guys from behind to make the play. NO anticipation. It was as if they were not aware of what was going on around them. As if the game speed was too fast for them. They look top heavy and off balance. So many times did I see our linemen just getting knocked over by these guys. How many good hard hits did we have against these guys? I counted 2! How many times was it the 3rd or 4th player that finally got the ball carrier down? I knew Moore would unload quickly, but only twice did we get ANY pressure on him. And that zone was getting picked apart. It looked all too easy. Was any adjustment made?

Offense seems like the same story to me as last year. Just could not get into a rhythm. After the first few drives( discounting the 80 yard trick play) my stomach turned. Even Boise took a minute to get it going.but it became apparent that it was going to be a long night after their 3rd 3 and out. Crowell is going to take time to get up to speed…he may be good by years end. But what of the throws in coverage and the dropped passes? These guys simply did not look ready to play this game.

Sure you have rebuilding years and sometimes things just dont break your way…but this is obviously a trend downward for the entire program. It has been a long time in the making. It just disgusts me. May take a long time to straighten out. I could never root for these guys to lose..but I would almost rather the wheels come off so some dramatic and much needed change occur. Mark Richt is behind the times plain and simple. And yes..when we are recruiting this state we should never have anything less that excellent linemen on both sides of the ball.

Richts stoicism is wearing me out. What the he11 man!? Get down outta the ivory tower you’ve been living in and smell what around you! Wake up!

The question now is where do we go from here?. We have some very good athletes but they don’t appear to be given the right direction on the offensive side of the ball, to get the job done. I just don’t look for my DAWGS to be successful this year with our present offensive scheme. We knew we had to alter the game plan come half time but we still came back with the same old plays that were not working. Boise is a good team no doubt, but we made it extremely easy for them. We wore our defense down by having them on the field way too much, and exhibited a poor offensive game plan, that insured we would not be competitive in the late stages of the game. This is when UGA should have been able to take over, but we showed nothing out there after the first half. Some ofr our youngsters looked pretty good, but this performance might have hurt our recruiting efforts for next year. I hope our verbals stay committed, but who knows. We have the guns to be successful on the offensive side, but it appears we have shot ourselves in the foot too much already. If we want to do better for the remainder of the season, we have got to be a lot more innovative on offense, because we can not afford to stick with what is not working anymore. UGA has nothing to lose by opening up our offeene, but I am guessing, we will not see anything with our offensive play calling, that will cause a lot of teams to fear playing us. I think I know how the Tech. fans feel now.

Troup Co. DAWG,

Having CMR call the plays would not change anything as I think he is coaching like a man, on his way out. He is responsible for the team and the hiring of his coaches, and his loyalty has now cost him the respect of the DAWG nation and the conference he once was a part of. I don’t know exactly when he decided to become an emotionless figurehead on the field, but the fire to succeed is gone. I think the world of him as a man, but quite frankly, as a coach, he will not cut it anymore. He might succeed at another school, if he gets his fire back, but he has gone down too many back roads now with UGA and he no longer has the fans or I would venture to guess, the administration behind him. There isn’t a team in the SEC that would not give away their first born for some of the athletes UGA can put on the field, but like a rudderless boat, there is no guidance to go in the right direction.

I will always be 100% DAWG, but we need some changes sooner, maybe then later, I guess. I don’t think Bobo is the whole mess either. What happened to the D we had. We had to call a time out to stop Boise, because they confusion on the field was killing us. Their hurry up and our, what the heck do we do, looked terrible to say the least. I think, as much as I hate to admit it, a complete change in coaches may be needed after the year is over. With the size, speed and strength we were suppose to have on defense, we looked pretty average at best and we should have been able to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the game. I almost feel like the coaches betrayed the fans with all of the hype they had about the team, and then could not coach these young athletes but let’s face it; They need direction and guidance to play at the DIV I level. UGA coaches are not providing that.

Now look at what he has done to our program. I have never been more embarrassed and felt so sad to watch the Dawgs play.

As a Tech fan I saw some postives. Team played hard all night and matched up well early in the game. You have a very good QB and you should win most of your games. The USC game will be a challenge but very winnable. Don’t give up just yet. Must say the uni’s were high schoolish and flat out ugly. With that said I did thoroughly enjoy watching you get beat as I always do, but don’t see this as a dire situation for your team just yet. Oh and one other thing, you are not and have not been a significant top tier team since the 80’s. This fantasy land you are living in is half your problem

Georgia will never again experincce Glory Glory. Leadership at UGA does not exist (from Adams down the line)

There is really no excuse for a SEC team coming into a game out of shape, it was very pathetic. I am UGA fan envious of the Boise program. Those kids were in shape and well coached. It’s been a while since we could say that about the Dawgs.

Tough Start for the Dawgs. As a life long Tech fan it truly is hard to grasp what has happened to the Dawgs. I’ll admit I have had a fun time getting under the bulldog nations skin this week. That being said I DO know this is a UGA state. Wow what do you say?

[...] sure how many people saw the actual final write-thru version of my game story from Saturday’s game. There was a final version of my notebook as well. Late night that [...]

Hey dawgfan, your team will be all right once you get into shape and start playing lesser teams in your conference play like Ole Miss and Auburn. SEC ate a little humble pie this weekend while the rest of the country sits back and laughs. Truth is, and if your really honest with yourself, you’d agree that BSU could of beat any one of your conference teams this past Saturday, but only Georgia had the balls to step up to the plate…Next!

UGA’s scores were the result of UGA players out-talenting their Boise State opponents. That has always been enough to beat Tech. However, when the opposition talent level is only slightly below UGA’s, the coach’s game plan needs to let the players play to their strength.
UGA may few adjustments. Boise State made several and won.

If someone ran a business and performed like CMR and his staff have performed the last 3/4 years there would be a change of management. I understand UGA football is big money but sooner or later both alumni and fans will stop pumping money into a program such as this. McGarity has got to do something!!!!

One more thing. As bad as I hate to say this but South Carolina will man handle the Dogs. Spurrier already has a 10 point advantage simply by being a much better coach than CMR. It will be ugly.
Dogs will get beat by at least 3 TD’s.
I almost hope South Carolina wins so they can win the East and finish putting CMR and his terrible coaching staff “on the road” looking for jobs!

I will not be a GA fan until they get rid of CMR; he has not done anything with all of the talent that he has got. he has only been sub par at best. I knw people will say that i am not a true GA fan but the most that we have done is beat FL one time in ten yrs; with talent that we get yr in an yr out we need to be talking about NATIONAL TITLES not SEC west. FU, AU, UA, LSU all national powers; y not us(GA)

Georgia stunk up the place. Still, Boise is over-ranked. They have 16 returning starters and a whole bunch of 5th year starters and their schedule is a cake-walk.

Well, here we go again! Nothing wrong with a loss but when they are humiliating that is something else again, and how long must this continue? Do we want to win a national championship? Then for heaven’s sake get serious and clean house at the top.

I can’t tell you how happy I was to watch Georgia get their arses handed to them. It’s so funny watching all the hype during the off season and the few days before the game. The comments I read from Georgia fans crack me the F up when they hype up this 6 win team. and as soon as UGAY loses they all call for Mark Richts head like they always do. Georgia fans are the dumbest, stupidest, delusional pieces of trash Ive ever seen. Im so glad yall lost you losers, eat it PUPS!

Why didn’t UGA blitz more? I think I saw 1 or 2 blitzes the whole first half, several more late in the game. Does anyone know how many times we blitzed in the 1st half, 2nd half? Our D guys looked slow compared to Boise’s O guys.

they didnt blitz more because they were “dawg tired” from being pushed down-field by an undersized outclassed offense. they couldn’t catch their breath let alone blitz.

Georgia Fans – just accept the fact that you are what you are. During your best years, I wasn’t born, on your current years. You are the 2nd or 3rd best team in your division, not conference. Why do Georgia fans think they have a God given right to win the NCAA Championship. First of all, the BCS is about as relevent as a chocolate tomato. Look yourselves in the mirror and accept the fact that you are not a national power in football, you are more of a regional power. I’m from Chicago and we care about the NFL, not college little leagues. I see people all over the country with Chicago bulls T-shirts on, I never see anyone in Chicago with georgia bulldogs T-Shirts……….regional team. I heard that georgia is moving to Big 12 to avoid playing florida again………….lol
