ATHENS — Georgia held its final full-pads practice of the preseason Monday, with two key players still limited by injuries.
Tailback Richard Samuel sat out half of the practice to protect a quadriceps injury, and cornerback/punt returner Branden Smith did only some jogging and rehabbing because of a foot injury.
Both, however, said they expect to play in Saturday night’s season opener against Boise State in the Georgia Dome.
“I’ll be ready by Saturday, no doubt about it,” Smith said. “It’s not a major injury. Just trying to be on the safe side.”
Smith has not practiced since injuring the foot on Thursday but vowed that it won’t slow him against Boise.
“I’m still at a 4.3,” he said, referring to his 40-yard dash time. “I still have my speed.”
Samuel, meanwhile, said he has “no doubt” he’ll play Saturday despite the quadriceps injury that has bothered him for 2 1/2 weeks.
“I went half of the practice [Monday], so it was not too much of a setback,” he said. “It felt fine. Just didn’t want to push it too far too fast.”
Coach Mark Richt said Samuel is “not 100 percent yet, but he’s getting there.” If healthy, Samuel is expected to share carries with freshman Isaiah Crowell against Boise. As of Monday night, Richt said Samuel remains the Bulldogs’ No. 1 tailback.
“He has been the projected starter,” Richt said of Samuel. “Today he is still our projected starter.”
Rambo’s status
Richt declined to say whether safety Bacarri Rambo, who started all 13 games last season but is not currently listed as a first-teamer, has been suspended from Saturday’s game.
“No, I’m not going to address that,” Richt said Monday night. “At the appropriate time, if anybody has anything like that, I’ll let you know, though.”
Asked when the appropriate time would be, Richt replied: “I don’t know. I’ve got to figure that out. Still working on that.”
Richt said on Saturday that Sanders Commings and Shawn Williams are currently the No. 1 safeties.
Boykin’s challenge
Georgia cornerback/kickoff returner Brandon Boykin issued a challenge to Boise State via Twitter over the weekend.
“Dear Coach Petersen,” Boykin tweeted, referring to Boise coach Chris Petersen, “I DARE you to kick to me. Sincerely, Me and my Dawgs.”
Boykin was hardly backing down from his tweet Monday.
“It did exactly what I wanted it to do. It created a buzz and got the fans excited,” Boykin said. “I didn’t say anything disrespectful, I don’t feel like. So if they didn’t like it, I mean, whatever.
“Me and my teammates and the coaches are excited and feel like we’ve got to come out and be confident and have that swagger in order for us to be successful against a team like Boise.”
He acknowledged the tweet generated a mixed buzz from fans.
“I knew some of our fans would be like, ‘Oh yeah, that’s great.’ And some of them would be, ‘What are you doing? You’re going to give them an advantage,’” Boykin said. “I mean, that’s their job to come and tackle me. Maybe it did give them an extra incentive, but we’ve still got to do what we’ve got to do, regardless.”
Boykin said he informed Richt of the tweet shortly after posting it.
“He said, ‘OK, now you’ve got to back it up,’” Boykin said.
Etc.
Nose guard John Jenkins, who had been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and wide receiver Marlon Brown, who had been out with an ankle sprain, practiced Monday. . . . . “I felt pretty good, actually,” Brown said. He had missed the past several practices but said there’s “no doubt at all” he’ll play Saturday. . . . Also back at practice Monday: fullback Bruce Figgins, who had been sidelined with an injured hamstring. . . . Boise State’s team will arrive in Atlanta late Thursday and plans a walk-through practice in the Georgia Dome on Friday.

Good news! All the injuries are good! Looks like we should have everybody ready and that’s greatttt!
I love Brandon Boykin’s attitude. He’s giving Boise the incentive but sometimes it’s good to get inside your opponents’ head like that. It’s called reverse psychology. Now they are going to kick to him, and he’ll make them pay and they’ll try too hard to tackle him and miss. I’m willing to bet he runs one back Saturday. He has room to spout off because the guy has the most kickoff returns over 100 yards in SEC history.
So ready for Saturday to get here! Let’s GO DAWGS!

Rambo may have lost his chance to start for UGA. Commings and Williams might prove to be great safeties. I know Commings is a great cover guy and Williams is a ballhawk as well but is more of a hitter. In Commings we have a complete ballhawk, in Williams we have a guy that can be a ballhawk but he’ll strike you and make you fear the middle. I don’t know what Rambo done, but if he’s not available for the game, maybe it’s a good thing? He often gets beat in coverage and you know Kellen Moore would pick on him if he smelt that Rambo can’t cover.

Before all the haters come on here spouting off about UCF (their usual fall back option) just read the new attitude and swagger our team has. You can’t honestly say that this team isn’t different from years’ past. There’s no way you can say that and actually believe it. Our attitude has changed and it’s a good thing. We want blood. We want it now. Boise, Boise, Boise. You shoulda played us in 2012 instead of now because we’re coming off a sucky season and we’re ready for redemption.

I feel like all these guys were cancers to the team and now we’re clean. We’re ready to go out and fight to the death for our city, our school, and our coach. Saturday will be the beginning of a great season. No doubt about it. Boykin’s comments just got me fired up. I just hope he doesn’t come out of the gate and do something stupid, like fumble or something. That would be bad and wouldnt look good on his resume’. That would suck. But I don’t think he will.
This team will be so jacked and pumped with the crowd behind them, they’ll play hard as they can play all game. Boise may keep it close for a half, but in the 2nd half that’s when the emotions and hype start to wear off and it just comes down to football. Boise will be tired of being beat up on and they’ll quit. Georgia will win.

Confidence for this team is a good thing. A little concerned about Richt’s statement on suspensions. If there are no suspensions (other than Carlton Thomas) then tell us there are no other suspensions. Seems like someone else is suspended and we don’t want Boise to know. If its Rambo, then no big deal. He’s never been the same since the concussion. But if its….???

Imagine Boise’s center Thomas Byrd (5′11, 288) having to block both Geathers and Jenkins all 4 quarters. He’s going to be so tired. Not to mention trying to stop linebackers coming through his gap. I think he’s going to have a rough, rough time. Ask Ben Jones how hard it is to block Geathers one on one. He’s a tank. He’s a motivated big man and he’ll be exploding on Byrd. All 6′6, 350 pounds of him. Woooooo, that’s a big man.

Or having to work you tail off in the summers, and all through the year to perform at a high level, Justin Houston who was clearly one of the best in the SEC, and now is starting with the Chiefs, just lost millions over a “character” issue, but coaches like Tressel, Pete Carroll and others whom have shown questionable character walk away with Million dollar buy out clauses..Players at 19 and 20 years of age take all the blame, but 45 and 50 year old Men go retire with a loaded bank account! Looking at Georgia’s starting line up, it’s hard to find one player who isn’t NFL caliber. Talent has never been a problem at UGA, but motivation has. I wish Richt would reconsider his decision to not let coaches yell at the players during games. These players are conditioned to expect it, even since their youth league days. When they screw up, there are consequences, including a coach getting in your face. Uga coaches are professionals, and they should know how to use it as a motivational tool. The kids realize they still love ‘em. I wish Coach Richt would reconsider his position on this.

Don’t get me wrong I’m a firm believer that you have to be able to back your mouth up, however Boykin has been quiet (in speech) since he came on campus. If he wants to hype it up a bit, his play and leadership have given him that right. And as for Richt not having control of his team, if that were true then we’d have another 12 arrests this off season. Just curious, how well do you think you would do if someone gave you the responsibility of 85 young men coming out of high school?

We’re not going to sack Kellen Moore in today’s Boise State offense. He’s like Peyton Manning getting rid of the ball so quick. This team is well coached. The receivers will be in their spots when they need to be there. To beat that we have to force passing situations and therefore we can anticipate the play and coordinate the defense. Then we have to rush the throw, force the play and get off the field… I think we can stop the run. I then feel we will be able to rush the front gaps and force bad plays from them. My biggest concern is how disciplined we are. They will be. How will we come out? Can we play our positions? And then can we play fast? And after that can we unleash the natural playmaking? I damn sure hope so because I’m having a he’ll of a pool tail gate party running up to kick off! Would be a bummer if we are not a better team top to bottom – including coaching.

I really can’t speak for Richt, I don’t know whether he condones the behavior or not. IMO, one of Richt’s problems is that he hasn’t been consistent with his approach to discipline. Back to your question, I would be more inclined to take the approach of Nick Saban vs Mark Richt with college players. Fear can be a good thing so long as it’s not abused. I watched the BS-VT replay and if the same team that barely beat VT after jumping to a big lead, they are going to have some serious problems if they fall behind against UGA, Their secondary had huge holes and it can be exploited. Their 2 leading receivers are also gone and their running back fumbled after taking a big hit.
Sounds like the same issues that UGA has had the last few years.
All I’m saying is that Boise is not unbeatable. VT blew that game and there was a couple questionable officiating calls made at the end of the game.

This doesn’t include Stafford, Moreno, A.J Green, Rashad Jones, Danny Ware. The list goes on and on. Your coaches should be allowed to use everything within their power to reasonably motivate these players. Some respond to a little public embarrassment. Others don’t. Don’t preclude their position coaches from making make the distinction. They know their players better than anyone. Stop restricting them. Let ‘em coach.

Boise – you are a good team. Moore is a great QB. You have great coaching. You could possibly win. Still, UGA has Aaron Murray – a champ in his own right and on the verge of a real breakout year. We need a big running game from some uncertain players, but I feel pretty good about Aaron Murray being a Heisman kind of champ, and I think the Dawgs D added some great elements this year. I’m pretty sure the Dawgs will look better on both sides of the ball… and on special teams.
I’d say Moore is super clutch, and Boise has better coaching, at least comparing offensive coordinators. Still, again, Aaron Murray is a champ and will return UGA mentality to championships. His freshman chains are off, and he’s gonna be awesome.

There seems to be a problem with some on here that didn’t listen when Grantham said that the best will play. Last year he could not practice that because of the lack of depth on the 3-4 defense which was none of his doing. This is the first year that his recruits will be on the team. But if you don’t believe anything else you can put it in the bank that Grantham will always have his best players out on the field. Apparently Rambo isn’t first string any longer but make no mistake he will play a lot once he returns.

I’m just wondering who backs up our starters at safety, provided Rambo is out, which i hope that isn’t the case. The way BSU slings the ball around we will need depth in our secondary. Breaking in the fifth and sixth safeties are risky (Hamilton, out injured, and Rambo who may not play, gives no depth.)

I’d really like to see us run the ball even if it isn’t very successful in the first quarter. Not every down, but I think we need to stay with it and try to run with some power on toss sweeps and behind big Figgins. Lets stay ahead of the chains and get some 10-12 play drives going!
I agree that it may be hard to put much pressure on their QB as they will run short routes and he will get the ball out fas tiwth some 3 step drops. I hope we are prepared for that. Hope their QB isn’t so mobile as some of the SEC QB’s we face. Seems to be a problem for us on 3rd and long.

That’s the only thing that really worries me as a UGA fan facing Boise; they’re knack for trick plays and they are successful most of the time. They could try an on-side kick, they could try flips, and reverses, and end-arounds,etc. I hate gimmick plays only because they’re so hard to stop. I mean what if Boise really does come out and onside kick it. That’s high risk, high reward however. If they onside kick it, and we sniff it out and pick it up, we have great field position to start the game but if they get it, then they do. It’s all about high risk, high reward. But that does kind of worry me, I’m not gonna lie.

Boykin’s challenge…to Boise. IMO it was a dumb thing to have done. Players need to be “up for the game” but that should not include giving the opponent additional incentive. It’s “trash” talk, which unfortunately has become a big deal in college and professional football. I suspect it backfires as often as it gets into the opponent’s head. I think its more of the “look at me factor” and football has to be a total effort. UGA has had too much of the “me factor”. I adhere to doing vs running off at the mouth, or in this case typing dumb messages to the opponent’s head coach.
Dizzy Dean once said, if you can do it, its not bragging. I can think of a few times it actually worked. Babe Ruth pointing to the outfield stands indicating where he intended to put the next pitch. Then there is the famous Mahammad Ali, tauting his opponents. Finally, Broadway Joe Namath’s trash talk before the championship game with the Colts. Doubt Boykin cleared his action with UGA coachs before he decided to become spoke person for UGA. From what I’v read, Boise it too good of a team and too discpline for it to have a negative results on their team.

I could live without this kind of thing, but Boykin should be on a NFL roster right now. He showed his loyalty and now is trying to be a leader and motivator. He might be one of the harder workers on the team too. For anything he had ever done, he has never proven himself to be a bad kid, or a hotdogging “me” guy. He’s been nothing but team, as far as I can tell. If he wants to tweet something in fun about playing a game, I don’t have any problem with that. Had he promised to make a certain amount of yards, or do something to somebody, then yes, it would have been over the line. he didn’t say anything about somebodies own funeral, or something like that. Too much blowing every little detail out of proportion goes on with fans nowadays. This kind of stuff is all just a matter of perspective, and its real easy to argue either side of it.
BSU is breaking in a new kicker, and it’s probably not such a bad thing to mess with their collective heads over there. Does anyone really think the special teams of BSU are going to tackle any harder, or Boykin is going to whiff because of this? One thing for sure kicking “to”him or not is going to be something they are thinking about when they line up, (and they need to be thinking about assignments) so it’s way more of a distraction for them, than our guys. Now imagine he breaks a pretty good run. He just put himself up in thier huddle.
Again, not a big fan of the idea in general, and its hardly worth defending or critisizing because it’s really a non story, but from a strategic standpoint, if you are going to mess with them, that was a pretty good area to pick on.

This is what this football program has been, and what it remains.
OK, now you’ve got to back it up
MARK RICHT
said of Brandon Boykin’s hot-dog celebration to the head coach of the opposing team we play 4 nights from now that Boykin DARE Chris Petersen to kick-off to him. We have to have that swagger, both Mark Richt and Brandon Boykin think. He has 3 returned for TD in his career and we, as a team, were # 85 in the nation on kick-off return last season. This is where we are.
And, against a team whose claim to fame is that 5 years ago 2006 season they beat a 3-Loss Choke-la-homa team who lost to a 7-6 Oregon team and who lost to a 3-Loss Texas team who also lost to a 7-6 Kansas State team.
Of the 4 of the 8 wins in 31 games vs the 6 BCS Conferences, this Choke-la-homa win is supposed to be why Boise State is so great. Not over even a team finishing in the AP Poll Top 10, quite obviously. The 2nd of the 4 wins that supposedly make Boise State so great is also from this season 5 years ago, 2006 vs 10-3 Oregon State only Oregon State lost to 6-6 Washington State and Lost to 7-6 UCLA that same 2006 five years ago season as well.
The remaining 2 great wins that make Boise State so great are both against Oregon 10-3 teams in 2008 and 2009. Oregon ended up # 11 in 2009 and # 10 in 2008, both 3-Loss teams. In 2009 Oregon’s 3 Losses included Losing to 8-5 Stanford an unranked football team in the final AP Poll Top 25. And, in 2008 Oregon’s 3-Losses included Losing to a 4-Loss California team who also did not end up in the AP Poll Top 25 either. But, because Boise State beat Oregon in 2008 and in 2009, both years Oregon Losing to teams who did not finish up in the AP Poll Top 25, Boise State is great because they beat them. Why then aren’t the other teams who beat Oregon both 2008 and 2009 also then in the final AP Poll Top 25 ? Oregon was NOT great in 2008 nor in 2009, were they ? Or the other teams who beat Oregon in 2008 and 2009 would have been ranked in the Top 25 too, right ?
And, this is whom we TAUNT before we play them.
And, Mark Richt tells him not not to do it, but that he has to back it up now. Wonderful Mark Richt.

Do you think Saban, or V. Dooley, or B. Bryant, or any other great coach would let one of his leaders say stuff like this the week before the opening game? Unbelievable. CMR should bench Boykin for the BSU game. A lack of team discipline has been a real problem for UGA lately. Boykin is a great player who is loved by the Dawg nation, but this was a big mistake, and I hope somebody on the staff lets him know that.
Saban yes, the other two no. They came from a different era. If you think Saban’s never had a player at LSU or Bama that did not talk trash before a game then you are clueless beyond hope. PLEASE!

I don’t think the Boykin Tweet is that big of a deal. Personally, I don’t like it though… keep your mouth shut and prove it on the field. This is a perfect example of why Chris Petersen banned the use of twitter for Boise State players. I also think Chris Petersen had the perfect response. “They have those kickers that coaches lose sleep over and the kick returner who wants a piece of me — and I don’t even play,” Petersen said. “… I don’t kick the ball. He’s talking to the wrong guy. I’m shanking it out of bounds

I am amazed at some of the useless comments on here from Dawg fans and non fans. One year you are b*tchin’ about no passion and swagger and the next minute you are b*tchin’ about a player that talks a little and I mean little trash. Make up your freaking minds how you want this team to carry itself! You really think Boise needs material to get mentally ready for this game? If you do, then it is obvious you never played the game. Painfully obvious that is.

You could be right, Suwannee. So, back it up. Give me an example of an Alabama player who has taunted the opposing coach a few days before a game, daring him to kick to him or run against him. It is one thing to run your mouth on the field, but to publicly call out the opposing head coach? I will retract when you give me an example.

To all Georgia fans: I am a Boise St. fan. I respect Georgia, their coach, their talent, their tradition, the quality of the SEC, etc. Unlike some other Bronco homers on here, I think that top to bottom Georgia’s players are more athletic, faster, stronger, etc. I believe the game will be hard fought on both sides and either side could win it. I am both confident and worried for my team, just like I am before most big games. The coaches and players will settle it on the field and both coaching, talent and luck will pay a role for whoever wins. Having said all of that … do not discount arguably the best coach in the country (Peterson), arguably the best QB in the country (Moore) and the fact that the skill/talent/ability of the Broncos is good enough to beat anybody with clean execution and not turning the ball over. Georgia isn’t the only team in this game that has talent/speed/toughness, etc.

I am not a pro. or even a amateur gambler, but doesn’t being minus 3 points on the odds in Vegas favor the betting houses. If Boise wins, that means that the better gets less than he normally would in pay off, if they weren’t favored. Now if UGA wins and beats the spread of 3, doesn’t the house win big? If Boise is really a legitimate nbr. 5 in the country, why are they only rated +3? Wouldn’t you think a team rated that high against a team rated much lower and coming off of a 6-7 season last year, would see a much more favorable point spread? Are these odds set by the people actually betting, and therefore skewing the percentage that way or are they set by the betting houses, to entice people to lay their money down for the favorite and then if the favorite loses, they rake in a lot of cash? It must be worth it for the betting houses to have these odds, so I would tend to hold onto my bucks if I were a better.
Now on paper, Boise should be favored but, just like a lot of nathsayers on here, the statistics and these fans, do not play on the field. There is a sense of urgency that should be in place on this UGA team this year, and I hope, genuine swagger from this team. They know all about the 6-7 team record from last year, even the newbies, and they want to get UGA back in the hunt again. There is nothing wrong with the kid tweeting and baiting an opposing team a little. It is really quite harmless, and doesn’t reflect any lack of motivation from the coaches or other team mates. With this kids record of returning kick offs, he has earned the right to tweet a little and boast if it his desire.
One thing I do see from both fans of UGA and those that just come on here to be negative, is anger on the fact that CMR is being a lot more closed about his comments and practices this year. Why do you suppose that is? Now coming off a 6-7 season last year, do you think that Boise has a really good handle on who they will be playing this Saturday? We all know Boise will try and score fast and their defense will try to swarm to the ball, but what do we really know about UGA’s game plan? The answer is not a lot. We know UGA has a young team, with a lot of new starters, but except for a few injuries, we kind of know, by the brief press releases if the practice went well or bad, and that is about it. We know on paper, that we have a good QB, a new receiving corps and new Rb’s. We know that our OL is thin on backups but has at least two, pre-season all SEC’s. We know that we have some big NT’s, and a fast defense with size. We know why the teams each feel they should win and what the majority of fans feel are the keys to victories. UGA fans, feel, speed, strength and size are the keys to victories and it will be won in the late stages of the game, after Boise has been beaten up physically. Boise fans think that they will out trick, and out finese their way to victory, because they have proven it against other DIV. I teams before. Supposedly, it is the biggest game for Boise this year, due to the fact that their conference is not exactly a barn burner of one. The UGA team feels it is a big game, because they are playing a pre-season NBR. 5 ranked team and they feel the need to show they belong in this big, national stage game, and they want to atone for last years dismal season. They are also representing the SEC, like it or not nathsayers, so whether you like UGA or not, if you are in the SEC you should, be hoping UGA wins.
I am of course a DAWG fan and I believe on paper and in my heart, that UGA can and will win the game.

Vegas odds have nothing to do with how much better a team is. It is determined by the amount of money bet on each team. Obviously more GA betting fans. If alot of money was being bet on Boise the spread would increase to 7 points. Don’t look at Vegas spread as indicator of how close teams may be.

This is perhaps the most exciting player in the SEC telling a team to kick it to him. UGA fans need to stop being so scared and nervous and get excited that we have a guy who wants the ball and wants a shot at making a play. UGA needs guys who have displayed high character as Boykin has who are not afraid to put the pressure on themselves to go make something happen. We have had lots of swagger the last few years. I remember when Reshad Jones was taunting the GT sideline during the game. I remember when Cox led the Dawgs in a demonstration against Florida, with the whole team jumping up and down in front of the whole world. Of course, Jones missed a tackle a few minutes later and we lost to Tech, and the Dawgs fell to pieces against Tebow and company just after the swagger demo, and we got blown out. We need competence, not talk. Confidence, not swagger. Discipline, not taunting–on the field or off. Call me a relic if you like, but taunting is what losers do, not winners. Boykin is above this. He is a leader. What if everybody on the team starts taunting opposing coaches? ‘Nuff said?

I have a Twitter account, and I tweet usually everyday. But there is no question that Twitter can be a distraction, whether you’re in a classroom or boardroom, at a kitchen table or on the football field.
Anyone who follows Georgia football players on Twitter knows that our players tweet A LOT. It’s not just Boykin. I read multiple tweets daily from players like Aaron Murray, Christian Robinson, Aron White and Richard Samuel, amongst others. I love these players, and I love being able to hear from them on Twitter. But I think we’re seeing too much of a good thing.
Coach Richt needs to tell his players to scale back their tweets. He shouldn’t ban them from Twitter, but he does need to make sure it does not become a distraction.
I agree with Boykin; this team does need swagger to beat Boise. But let’s make sure our focus is on the practice field and in the film room, not on a social network.

Athens I hate to disagree with you but Marcus Dowtin was not a cancer on the team, the opposite was true about him, as he was a real nasty player on the field. He often hit so hard he hurt himself. He had off the field issues that should have been dealt with when he first got to Athens by the coaching staff, but was largely ignored by Willie Martinez and company. We lost a very good player with this one, but I agree with you that it was necessary in the long run. My point is this one could have been avoided if the coaching staff had handled it better.

Blue Meanine, I’ve been to Boise, heck I’ve even been to Emmett, Pocatello, Coeur d’alene and I can tell you there are REDNECKS everywhere. Guess Treasure Valley Medical Center and Saint Alphonsus should be on high alert.

Y’all are right. Suspend Brandon Boykin. I mean he gave the Boise State special teams players so much motivation. I mean they are going to now be able to run faster down the field and tackle him harder on kickoffs.
You people are amazing!! Probably never played a sport at a high level

Bystander, that would have been one of the great comebacks in CF history if Petersen had come up with it: “Well Brandon, we aim to please and we hope to be able to kick it to you 10 or 15 times on Saturday.” Let’s hope he only sees a couple!

Sorry to hear about Johnson’s injury. Hopefully he will be back at full speed for Boise in the near future. This is the only injury I have heard about for Boise this Fall, maybe I am missing some of the info, but thourhg they just weren’t reporting their injuries as they seemed to have none.

Boykin’s tweet disgust me. MR needs to discipline Boykin. That is not the Ga way. I am a dawg fan. Boise will be ready for this game on ALL sides of the ball. We did not need any tweets. It reminds me of the dancing in the endzone. It will backfire. Just go out and play some smashmouth football. Boykin has fumbled trying to return kicks. Boykin has gotten the dawgs pinned deep. No one remembers all those screw ups. This is an important game. Shut your mouth and play football. It does not matter how small Boise’s center weighs. Boise’s team plays with HEART.. Heart is what the dawgs have been missing the last 5 years. MR need to stop the talking trash.

What if Geathers and Jenkins also have heart? You saying they don’t? Those guys didn’t play last season but know what their team went through. They want to do this for Richt, they want to do it for the fans, and most of all, they want to do it for themselves. They will come out hot and I bet Boise won’t be able to keep up. They just won’t.

I would suspect that the “blue meanie from BS(?)”, was a techie hiding behind a handle as usual, but even techies know where Atlanta is. I guess though, when you are a 5th grader and come onto a blog, just to try and irritate opposing fans, you can be forgiven, the lack of geography smarts. All that is required of him, is to know where the next field of spuds is located.

To “Do They Teach English at UGA?” I don’t see anywhere on that profile where it lists his major, so I don’t where you’re getting that, but if you heard it somewhere, I’d venture to say that his major is Mass Communications Print Journalism (hence his goal to write/work for “magazines”). As an English professor, I have no problem with his grammar – it was appropriate for his audience and purpose…. and I’d venture to say your grammar wouldn’t be any better if you were answering questions on the fly. This blog is about football, so get on the bus, or get the heck out of the way. I like Boykin’s confidence, and I like Richt’s response. Quit looking for trouble, everyone.

Suwanee,
We have had lots of swagger the last few years. ‘Nuff said?
Are you that dumb kid??? We beat florida after the celebration. it was the next year we lost. Get it right before u bash something moron.

And to those crying like babies over the tweet. GET OVER IT. The real UGA fans are pumped from it and ready to go for Saturday night.
Those of you saying Richt doesnt have control over the team, are u that dumb??? Does Richt have some magic computer that constantly monitors these kids twitters and facebooks??? Get a clue people.
Those of you complainiing that this gives BSU some kind of edge or gets them fired up you have to be kidding me?? They most likely dont even care, and if they are dumb enough to kick to him, they wont have some magic defense against his speed and cutting ability.
Those of you saying its tasteless and crap talk doesnt belong, you had to have just had part of your brain removed or u dont go to the games and hear the real fans. Trash talking is part of the game, all games for that matter. If you cant handle it then put ur ear MUFFS on you wittle babies.
All in all to all the babies out there, we dont need you as fans. Go cheer for Tech, they cant possibly talk smack bc they are that bad. We might have went 6-7 last year, but i dont see the same team out on the field do you???
And yes everyone on that list were cancers to the team. Houston and Green were all about Me and I and how can I look better. They didnt care about the team. Gray was more worried about playing than how he could help the team. Now that the cancer is gone we can get this season started off right.
Get up bulldog nation its time to get ready to pound the smurfs.

I know one thing for sure….more of you trolls talk trash on here…compared to Boykins tweet. And one can hardly justify what he said as trash talking!! Its called getting into the Spirit of the Game. Apparently none of you trolls, or ultrconservative Dawg fans understand this point!! Just enjoy these lil side stories for what they are…and quit making it out to be something bigger than what it is. Its a friggin tweet…wasnt a text message he sent directly to Peterson or BSU. Get a gripe!! Hunker Down!!

I guess the real test will be when UGA wins a close one, and Boykins has 127 total return yards….to see how many folks are going to say….”I’d give it all back and lose, to see him get benched to prove some vague hypothetical point that may or may not even apply here, but by God, I think I know what Bear would have done 40 yrs ago”. (and most likely wrong about that as well).

I’m standing, you need to check your facts before spouting that big mouth, son. There could be a moron in this conversation, but it isn’t me. Read the post again. *Cox led the celebration* should be the hint for you. I’m not talking about ‘07, obviously. I was at the game in ‘09 when it happened and I witnessed it. The whole team huddled on our sideline and began jumping up and down in a frenzy (after we started coming back); it was on a qtr break I think. They were trying to get fired up while demonstrating their swagger, instead of just doing it on the field. Shortly after this demonstration, the Gators blew us out. The Gators commented on what a great motivator the smack/swagger demo was for them. They said Georgia just doesn’t learn, do they. Apparently, we are looking at different concepts of what makes up winning character; you are for–in your face–smack talking, poor sportsmanship, and all that people of character hate about modern sports, and I am for being winners on the field and in character, too–being gentlemen, and then coming out and beating the other team soundly through superior play. Good sportsmanship is important to me. So is winning, but you can do both. We do agree on one thing, though: Go Dawgs!

Altamahah, and if he comes out and fumbles, or gives up a TD? Play isn’t the issue. The issue is about team behavior and discipline, and it is about correcting the mistake. I would have been extremely happy with, “Coach Richt said don’t do that anymore, and here is why, Brandon…” Instead of go back it up. Do you really want our whole team tweeting the opposing head coach? I’m surprised you guys think this is a good idea. I like Boykin. He is a great player and appears to be a fine young man. I don’t think this was a good idea.

I dont recall anyone categorizing it as a good idea. Just to lighten up. It’s not a discipline issue. Not an issue at all. I trust if there is something to be done to keep the “whole team” from tweeting the other coaches, that will be taken care of, and I don’t expect him to handle his business via newspaper quotes. I think you can be sure that soundbite was not everything that was said internally about tweeting.
There is also a huge difference between “son, is that really the best idea” and calling for him to get benched.
