Saturday’s practice report: Branden Smith day-to-day with foot injury

ATHENS — A week away from its season opener, Georgia’s football team practiced Saturday without one of its starting cornerbacks, its No. 1 punt returner and an occasional offensive playmaker.

Branden Smith, who is all of the above, missed the practice with a foot injury sustained in practice on Thursday.

Coach Mark Richt described Smith’s status as a day-to-day matter, but -– with the days dwindling before the season opener against Boise State -– expressed optimism he will be able to play.

“We don’t think it’s serious,” Richt said of the injury. “Nothing that would require surgery. I guess the ol’ day-by-day is the best way to describe it.”

Asked specifically if he expects Smith to play against Boise State, Richt said: “I do, yes.”

If Smith is healthy, he will join Brandon Boykin as Georgia’s starting cornerbacks, with Jordan Love the third corner in nickel packages. Richt said freshman Damian Swann would be next in line for playing time at cornerback if Smith were sidelined.

Sanders Commings, who moved from cornerback to safety late in spring practice, seems set at his new spot. “He’s our No. 1 safety right now, along with Shawn [Williams],” Richt said.

That officially confirmed what had become apparent on the practice field –- that Bacarri Rambo, who started all 13 games last season, isn’t currently a first-team safety. Richt said only that Rambo “has done well” in preseason.

Richt indicated kickoff returner Boykin also would handle punt returns if Smith isn’t able to go. Swann and fellow freshman Malcolm Mitchell would be the next options to return punts, Richt said.

Trip to the Dome

The Bulldogs were back on the Woodruff Practice Fields on Saturday after busing to the Georgia Dome, site of the opening game, for a closed practice Friday.

“I wanted them to just get in there and get a little taste of it,” Richt said.

They even broke out the Nike pro-combat uniforms they’ll wear for the game against Boise State.

“The first time they put them on, I figured they’d be primping a little bit, maybe be a little too focused on the uniform rather than the game,” Richt said. “So I was trying to get [that] out of the way so they could get over that. And when we go play next week, we won’t have to worry about taking pictures or looking in the mirror.”

Linebacker Alec Ogletree said the trip to the Dome was beneficial.

“We got in there and got to go in the locker room and … learn how to run on the field and stuff,” Ogletree said Saturday. “A lot of the guys have never played in the Dome or even been to it, so [the trip] took off some of the edge that we had about being excited about the Dome and just got us back to playing football.”

Jenkins still out

Nose guard John Jenkins, the much-touted junior-college transfer, remained sidelined with a hamstring injury Saturday.

“He’s still not ready,” Richt said. “I’m hoping Monday. . . . It’s not 100 percent he’ll be back Monday, but we’re hopeful.”

Kwame Geathers is slated to start at the nose against Boise.

Etc.

Richt expects wide receiver Marlon Brown, sidelined for several days with an ankle injury, to return to practice  Monday. . .  Tailback Richard Samuel practiced Saturday and continues to work his way back from a quadriceps injury.  “He’s getting there,” Richt said. “I wouldn’t say he’s full speed.” . . . The team has Sunday off. . . . Monday’s practice is scheduled to be the Bulldogs’ last in full pads before the opener.

Williams must be as impressive as players have claimed if he’s helped knock Rambo out of the starting four at DB.

Can’t say I’m against it. Rambo was always more hype than on-field performance, and Commings is a proven playmaker that deserves to start.

I foresee this game being lopsided…

The problem is I can’t figure out if it will be Georgia or Boise State doing all the scoring..

All the prognosticators that think they know how this game is going to go are only guess. You never know what sort of team is going to come out of that tunnel at the start of a new season.

Great idea getting them in the Dome to get acclimated with it and the newness of the uniforms. Now the work of preparation for a very formitable team can commence. Let’s be realistic, this is a good team but I think our defensive speed will be more than they can handle.

Ingenious move by Richt to get to the Dome, and get a lot of the things he mentioned out of the team’s system.

This should also go to show any of the still-uninformed haters that the uniform is far from a gimmick desired by Richt. In fact, it’s quite the opposite side of the spectrum.

I cannot stress enough how excited for, and proud of this team I am. I expect to see a very determined and gritty team come through the tunnel in ONE WEEK. No matter what the outcome, this team and coaching staff have obviously revamped since the Liberty Bowl. If we happen to come up short in the points column, it will simply be because we were the 2nd best team on the field.

LET”S GET THROUGH THIS WEEK!!!!

Shawn Williams must really be something. He knocked Rambo out of a starting spot. I thought Rambo was a good player for us last season. He did get burnt on occasion but overall I thought he played very well. Apparently Commings and Williams are better. That has lockdown secondary written all over it with Boykin, Smith, Commings, and Williams. Shawn Williams is also a hitter which I love.

this is preposterous. I have been rooting for the sanders commings move to free safety for a season and a half, because quite frankly i thought branden smith NEEDED to be on the field. IMO, the 4 best dbs are rambo, boykin, smith, and commings. I was proud of CMR when he moved commings to safety, but shawn williams should not start over a player like rambo. Williams can be the third safety, or in a nickel set you can move commings to the nickel and put williams in at safety. maybe i’m wrong about williams, but currently i have seen more out of rambo. i guess we’ll find out how good williams is…

These players have the right mindset. FINALLY! The past few years have been about the “star” players instead of the concept of a “TEAM”. Everybody was used to counting on Stafford, Knowshon, A.J. Green, etc to make a play and lead this team to a win by themselves. We don’t have that now. We have a team that is willing to work together to accomplish the same goal. These boys will go hard on Boise because they know what’s at stake. They will shock, and I mean SHOCK the CFB world.

I like Rambo but he gets out of position too easy sometimes and when he is supposed to be the deep help, he tends to get burned. I would like to think that CMR and CTG saw something in Williams that warranted a move like this. It’s not one of those moves you do in camp when they are simply running neck and neck. Not at this point in their terms at UGA.

Did anybody ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe the reason we’ve had sub-par seasons the past 2 seasons was because we have had 3 different QBs the past 3 seasons? We had Stafford in 08, Cox in 09, and then Murray in 2010. This will be the first time since 08 that we’ve had the same QB from the previous season. Believe it or not, breaking in a new QB can affect the continuity of a football team. New leadership, and such. Just a thought.

Athens Dawg – I mentioned that on one of the previous blogs yesterday about the QB situation. We went from David Greene for 3 years to DJ Shockley for 1 (not a bad year though), to Stafford for another 3. The transition from Stafford to Cox was not smooth because there is such a drop in talent (nothing against Joe Cox but it is what it is) and he wasn’t the answer. Murray will be a star for the next couple of years at least. Down here in Tampa, he made a name in a big way.

BTW, has anyone seen video of Lonnie Outlaw .. Scout.com lists him as 6-7/200 at WR .. we won’t see him at UGA until next year but that will be fun to watch.

Who would be our backup at nose for Kwame if he needs a breather or, heaven forbid, gets injured, and Big John is unable to play?

I just don’t think Jenkins wouldn’t be able to play if needed, and probably will play next Saturday. (

(Man, it’s good to finally be able to write the words,’next Saturday’)

Players usually always find a way to get on the field and play through the adversity of injury and pain. I surely hope he can. We’ll need a fresh nose in there all night to tie up two of BS’s OL and give our LB’s a chance to get into their backfield.

Hopefully having Sunday off will also help get Branden and the others with nagging injuries healed, and we’ll find that the team got through the Monday scrimmage without furthur injures.

Seems Coach Richt has this team focused and ready to play some football. I know UGA fans are ready to see a renewed Junkyard Dawg defense and an exciting Georgia offense in the Dome.

Go ahead and say it won’t be so, haters. Only time will tell. This Dawg fan is ready, and I believe it will happen! .. Go Dawgs!

The only reason those two bumped Rambo from a starting spot is simple: Interceptions and play making. Rambo is a good hitter who rarely blows an assignment, but Williams and Commings are ballhawks and make more game changing plays. Lakatos likes ballhawks (Tyvon Branch, Darius Butler).

My condolences on the loss of your brother acdc1996. I’m with you; I love football, but it is not the most important thing in the world. I’ve been a UGA fan (and a Braves fan, and a Falcons fan) since the mid-70s, and I stick with my team, win or lose. I ALWAYS hope for a national championship (or World Series win, or a Super Bowl) every year, but I’m realistic enough to understand it ain’t gonna happen every year. At the end of the day (I hate that phrase!), I’m happy if my team plays hard until the end of the game, and leaves it all on the field. That’s why I love it when the Redcoat Band plays the fight song at the end of EVERY game, showing their pride in being a bulldog, win or lose.

As I’ve said before, it disturbs me that the only CURRENT definition of success is “winning it all”, that if you don’t, that makes you and your season a failure. Well I for one refuse to accept that every Braves season in the 90s (except for 1995) was a failure. I had a blast rooting for them, and I had a blast rooting for and watching the Falcons in 1998 (and the last 3 years). As for the Bulldogs not having won a national championship since 1980, I admit there were some lean years, but winning a national championship in college football is partly luck, partly public perception, etc. If the right team had lost at the right time (Tennessee) in 2007, UGA would have been in the title game instead of LSU, assuming they had beaten LSU in the dome. Many people agree that at the end of the year, UGA was playing about as well as anyone. And all those people saying that UGA is irrelevant, I find it telling that the Dawgs are the only team that had a losing record last year that was included in the top 25. Not even Texas (who everyone would agree IS relevant, despite last year) can say that!

Sorry to be so long winded. Just kinda got going and couldn’t stop…

And even if he is acting, at least he knows how to act correctly! Very respectful, humble, confident, always had a smile on his face–even when they kept asking him about whether he thought he would be as good as Lattimore over and over again. His first answer was something to the effect of, I don’t worry about that; that’s really up to God. I liked him. Hope he is better than the expectations! Let’s do a postion by postion comparison for Georiga vs. Florida on defense:

DE, Jaye Howard vs. DeAngelo Tyson – Florida is clearly better
DE, Sharief Floyd vs. Abry Jones – Florida is clearly better
NG, Dominque Easley vs.Kwame Geathers – Florida is clearly better
(all 3 of the DL for Florida will be on the all-SEC teams at the end of the year)

OLB – Ronald Powell vs. Jarvis Jones – Florida – Florida is clearly better
ILB- Jelani Jenkins vs. Christian Robinson – Florida is clearly better
ILB – Joe Bostic vs. Alex Ogeltree – Florida is better because of experience
OLB-Larentree McCray vs. Cornilus Washington (toss up)

CB – Jeremy Brown vs. Brandon Boykin – Georgia is better
CB – Marcus Robertson or Cody Riggs vs. Brandon Smith – toss up
SS – Matt Elam vs. Shawn Williams – Florida is better
FS – Josh Evans vs. Sanders Cummings – toss up

Florida’s defensive starters are clearly better than Georgia’s defensive starters.

Georgia has a slight edge because of QB on offense, but if Brantley plays well, then the offense will go to Florida as well……

Wait to you get a view of:

WR – Quinton Dunbar
TE – Jordan Reed
H-back – Trey Burton
OT – Matt Patchan
OG – Jon Halipio
These dudes are going to be deference makes for Florida this year.

And the running trio of Rainey, Demps, and Burton in the I-formation is going to be, well, very good.

Florida winning the East depends soley on if Brantley steps up this year or not. He is playing very well in practice…..but he did that last year. Good thing…Jeff Driskell is ready to play every down if needed.

Bama fans………Kickoff int THE SWAMP is at 8PM. Have you ever been to a game in THE SWAMP at night. Well…..it is very, very loud and exciting. No matter what you say, the start time has got to be making you very nervous. Florida will mostly likely be 3-0 and the crowd will be seriously jacked for the game. I’m ‘all in’, as they say at Auburn, with this being a better defense than we’ve had in some time, but then I’m also aware that Boise State is no slouch when it comes to smart coaching. If we come out, ba!!s to the wall, blitzing, jumpin’ routes, taking wild-a$$ chances, you have to know that BS will have plays ready to take advantage of it. Makes you wonder if we need to just sorta ‘vanilla’ it, play somewhat conservative for a couple of series just to see how we’re matching up….then ‘ba!!s to the wall. Oh well, I guess I’ll just leave that up to the coaches.

As for the injuries, I prefer to think back to the time when Herschel had a hurt thumb or something and the Clemson coach, prior to the game with us, said, ‘I’m just worried that they’ve got more people over there that are capable of hurting him’. Of course hamstrings and muscle pulls aren’t ‘inflicted’ by others but I like the idea that folks are, at least, pushing themselves to the ‘bending’ point.

@TampaGator…Please forgive me if I missed a specific post by ‘Athens Dawg”…But why stir the pot as you are trying to do by comparing the dawgs defense with the gators defense…”..On Paper”..Didn’t see anything that “Athens Dawg had written that mentioned your gators at all…so my question is why do a comparison of the dawgs at gators, when we are talking about the Boise St game for the most part…Say what you want about others, but I have to say that I don’t get your reasoning for the above comments or them being relevant at this point…Plenty of time to compare our defenses at some point…Not trying to be disrespectful, but clearly I must have missed a comment byt “Athens Dawg” regarding your gators…or did I…go dawgs

As we head into the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff game on September 3rd, us Boise State fans have heard all of the insults from the fans of Georgia and other BCS teams.

Every cliche’ argument from strength of schedule to playing on the “smurf turf” has been brought forth in an effort to minimize the Broncos’ impressive run over the past 10 years.

This happens every year, whether its Virginia Tech before they lost or Oregon before they lost twice to Boise State.

So to all you Dawg fans trying to act like you’re not nervous, here’s some fascinating facts for you.

1. Boise State is 46-12 on green fields in the past 10 years with only five losses in the past five years. That record is the third-best away record in all of Division FBS schools.

2. The players see the field on a different plane while playing, otherwise it would be really tough for BSU to dominate every opposing team on the blue when his receivers are camouflaged.

3. Boise State beat Fresno State 51-0 at Bronco Stadium wearing orange uniforms. This was actually one of the most dominating performances in BSU history. Maybe they should wear a different colored uniform on “The Blue.”

Another argument they bring up is the weak schedule.

1. There is some validity in this argument but just point out that the Mountain West Conference is actually ranked higher then the Big East—a fellow BCS conference.

2. Also, point out that Boise State wins when they get to play BCS schools. In the Chris Petersen era, Boise has lost only one game against a BCS team including some wins over Oregon when they won the Pac-10 in 2009 and Virginia Tech when they won the ACC in 2010. But don’t worry, this argument will get easier after a win in Atlanta.

3. Third argument you could make is that in BCS rankings (which takes strength of schedule into account), Boise State has finished the season ranked:

in the BCS top five twice in the past five years

in the BCS top 10 five times in the past seven years

and in the BCS top 25 seven times in the past eight years.

Keep in mind, BSU has only been a Division 1-A school since 1996 and didn’t join the WAC until 2001.

From the Georgia fans, you will also get the argument of the last time Boise went to Georgia and we lost by a significant amount.

I guess the blue turf really does give them an advantage. 1. Other then the obvious argument that the two teams meeting in 2011 are vastly different than the teams that met in 2005, BSU was being coached by Dan Hawkins at that point, and he did not adequately prepare Boise State like Coach Petersen would have. That is evident when he went to Colorado and proceeded to tank the Buffaloes during his tenure there.

2. You will have to concede that Georgia was very good that year. They went on to win the SEC championship, and BSU was in a rebuilding year but still only lost four games. They should have won. This year is much different. This Boise State team is much better, and this Georgia team is much worse then the last time they met.

Some will want to bring up the Nevada game last year. Well, if its a Georgia fan, this is too easy.

1. Just comment on their big wins over Idaho State and Louisiana-Lafayette in their 6-7 run last year. However, don’t mention the fact that they lost to an unranked Mississippi State, Florida and Colorado as it may hurt some feelings. Also, try to contain the laughter if you have to mention Colorado. Meanwhile, BSU hasn’t had a losing season in 13 years.

2. You can mention that Nevada finished the season at No. 11 right behind No. 9 Boise State but far ahead of Georgia, and Nevada finished 13-1 that year. Plus BSU lost in overtime by three.

The Boise State NASCAR. Photo Courtesy of Brian Scott 3. Don’t mention the bowl loss to Central Florida either. I bet that one stings Georgia fans too.

The last insult I hear a lot is the fact that BSU is essentially a high school team because our stadium holds 33,500 fans, and they are right it does only hold about 34,000.

1. There is only one argument to this, and that is Boise has only been a Division 1-A school for the last 15 years. Georgia has been playing at a high level for over 100 years.

In that 100 years, Sanford Stadium is the best they can come up with? Hell, it’s not even good enough for the kickoff game let alone the best in the SEC. Give Boise State 100 years and see what kind of stadium they come up with.

In the next five years, BSU will increase its stadium from 33,500 to 53,000, and BSU will still maintain their home winning streak.

Some other interesting facts to use against Georgia. Did you know:

Boise State has the same amount of BCS bowl wins as Georgia.

Boise State has been ranked higher then Georgia in the BCS in four of the last five years?

Boise State has a NASCAR race car and Georgia doesn’t? That especially crushes Georgia fans. Oh, and it will race in Atlanta the same day BSU plays Georgia. Well played Broncos.

And last but not least, go ahead and mention the fact that the Georgia coach thought Kellen Moore had graduated, and that’s why they took the game but then tried to cover it up by saying he was joking. Joke or not, that sure is motivating for his players.

Hopefully, this helps you fight the good fight against the BCS powers or at least gives you some fire power against that crazed Georgia fan in your office.

Plus, at the very least, you can comment on Georgia’s hideous bright red Nike Pro Combat Uniform with the red stripe down the face mask.

Good luck Dawg fans and let the games begin.

I try very hard not to be the fan that drinks the kool aid. I am not one of the fans who no matter what thinks the Dawgs will win. Boise is a very well coached team that plays very well together. What scares me most is despite being small compared to our boys in the trenches, they have played together a long time and they know how to control the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

However, I believe. I believe the Dawgs will win on Saturday and I can’t wait.

We are very scared of the match ups along your Defensive line in particular; this may be where the game is won or lost. I believe Georgia easily has a Top 5 defense, and a Top 15 Offense. Your team is a national championship contender.

We have had a great time chatting with your fans online (great fans) and look forward to tailgating with “y’all”.

“We don’t think it’s serious—nothing that would require surgery”

What in the world does that mean ?

He has a foot injury that surgery could be performed on, but it wouldn’t help ?

Good heavens.

We

“don’t think”

it’s serious.

If it is not serious, you say, ah that is not serious. And, of course, you don’t put a walking boot on and say there is no reason for it.

This entire Fall Camp has been a huge disappointment, starting with 26 players attrition no longer on the team, to the 2 who flunked out of the Dream Team, and continuing through every day the Dream Team who did make it, basically all being injured or for whatever – pulls, strains, hamstrings – just never got the opportunity to get ready to contribute for the 1st time.

I am still going with 11-3, but only because of the soft easy schedule including no top team and of the 5 who are currently ranked, clearly Auburn and Florida have no business being ranked. Boise State is no match for UGA with their in fact 8 wins vs the 6 BCS Conferences ever, including no win against any impressive football team, ever. South Carolina lost 5 games, so how great are they ? Missy State doesn’t have our talent level here at Missy State.

11-3 and we will have beat no one.

I’d like to see us play well against Alabama, however, before we play another podunk opponent in yet another bowl game against podunks.

3. “We have had a great time chatting with your fans online (great fans) and look forward to tailgating with “y’all”.”

Go Broncos!

1. Hoping for a victory ? You have the grand sum of 8 wins EVER against ANY of the 6 BCS Conferences in 31 games, 25 percent win percentage. Put the pipe down, son. You know they have doctors for this, don’t you ? It is not that UGA is so great, but that you have NEVER beat ANY impressive football team, EVER.

2. # 5 Offense # 15 Defense. Dogcrud. This is an NCAA stat Boise State runs up based on the 10 of the 12 regular season games for 2011 Rivals ranks the # 81 team. Yeah, you can run up stats like that against 10 teams in games you play this year against the # 81 team; but, what does it mean ? You play TCU and UGA this season; let’s see where you would rank in NCAA Offense and Defense looking at just those 2 games, shall we sir ? I am not falling into to this trap that this is some great accolade you through upon us, sight unseen; when what it is really is more of the same ole BS from Boise State fans that you rank this or that in NCAA stats with your 2-star players playing the # 81 team every week all of 2011.

3. You have had a great time chatting with fans HERE yes on our blogs. You have on the other than OBNUG blog as your only blog and allow NO DISCUSSION. It is why when you do go to real football blogs, that you are “ignorant sluts” to quote another blog author this morning. I came to your blog OBNUG and dared to post about your AD being fired the day he was fired by your president, but I was told I was h-jacking your blog about player # 24. Grow up Boise State fans. Your won/lost record MEANS NOTHING. Try playing a real schedule. And, don’t give me this, you really enjoy chatting online with yet another school who has NO RESPECT for your level of opponent every week, which would include 23 of the 31 opponents who are in the 6 BCS Conferences you have LOST to. Hi-jacking Nick’s OBNUG blog ? But, you can run in here and perpetrate this hoax again that UGA will be # 5 Offense # 15 Defense NCAA ranks (while you play the # 81 opponent every week running up those SAME ranks by the NCAA yourself. We play real football games, and guess what ? While we are the best opponent you play this season, we are # 7 in The SEC, and we didn’t even want to play you because (1) there is nothing to gain by beating you and (2) the game the next week, is the game we will be looking forward to.

Go back to your OBNUG “blog” and tell each other again where you rank in NCAA stats. Otherwise, tell Nick hi

I am enjoying the Gator-flavored Kool-Aid, as are Dawg fans enjoying their flavor. That is what we do in the summer. The difference is, Gator fans generally have reason to continue to drink the Kool-Aid during the fall months….at least 18 of the last 21 years.

Dawgirl……

Based on what I have been reading this summer, it is the Dawgs who don’t have to play any games this fall to win the East, the SEC, and the National Title. It is already a done deal, as it has been for the last 21 years during the summer. But, unfortunately, you do have to play Boise and SC the first two games. And Florida has to play Bama and LSU back to back. No, I have no dreams of winning the national title this year. But Georgia fans think they have that chance. Dream on. That is was summer is for for both Georgia and Florida fans. But the real Kool-Aid is being consumed at Bama and LSU this summer.

Just a fan……..

Sharief Floyd, Dominque Easley, and Ronald Powell played last year. Floyd played back up all year and came on strong towards the end of the year and was dominate in the Penn State game…..and he has had a terriffic spring and summer so far. He is going to be a force in the SEC this year. Easley had a rough year (attitude) last year but played very well in the Penn State game and he is a completely different person now…..great effort and Muschamp is saying he is 100 percent effort 100 percent of the time now….and that Easley has the quickest first step he has ever seen in a defensive lineman….and Muschamp has coached a lot of excellent DL at Auburn, Bama, and Texas. Ronald Powell (as your converted safety will most likely discover) went through a learning curve at LB last year playing in the SEC, but learned a lot and has been very impressive this spring and summer. He is bigger, faster, smarter, and playing a more natural postion…..and will be a star at the hybrid LB/DE position this year. Concerning the new system and learning it, that system will be far more aggressive this year…..Florida is running a similar defense to the one Bama runs….and the Florida players have already said it better fits what they do best. The DC last year was a bend but do not break guy. Not Muschamp and crew. They are out to bend your offensive line and break the QB’s mind by confusing the offense with many different looks and blitzes from all different directions. It is also very, very fast….as you will soon see.

And….as I wrote…..if I am wrong about my evaluation. Tell me why. Georgia has the lead at QB and on special teams only. A few ties, but Florida is stronger in more areas. If Brantley plays up to his skills, then Florida will win 9 or 10 games (with likely losses only Bama, LSU….and possible losses to FSU and Georgia). If Brantley plays like last year, Florida will win only 6 or 7 games. It is that simple.

@ TampaGator, you better hope that new kid wins the QB job. I just can’t see Brantley turning it around that fast. He would have been alot better off coming to UGA because he would have fit our system much better than UF’s at that time.

“I will not predict the outcome of a game (unless I’m in Vegas and can bet on the game). What will be interesting to see is if you are still blogging after the GA/Fl game if we happen to win.”

1. It seems you are predicting, if you are projecting what will happen after the game if you happen to win.

2. I will be more than happy to bet with you on the outcome of this season. Consider this Las Vegas. It is a blog. Whether you like it or not, you are nothing but a wimp saying you don’t predict the games, then say you do predict the games in Las Vegas and then say you do wonder what will happen after the Florida game if we win.

Grow up. At least act like you are on a blog. A blog is where you come in here and say what will be. Then, you come back and eat your words.

Take me for example, I have been saying since the 2005 season was over that we have serious coaching staff issues.

Take you for example. Wonder what you will say after we play a Florida team whom we should have beat many times these last 10 years. Last year, for example. Was Florida any good last season ? Obviously not. But, they beat us. Didn’t they ?

Pre-season DISNEYdawgs.com like yourself, LHarding Dawg, come into these blogs EVERY SINGLE YEAR, and say the same BS, that we are better talent than Florida this season, and then we go out there and you don’t want to even hear what happened. 16 times under Mark Richt we have lost to a team who either did not end up in the AP Poll Top 25, or would not have, without their win over us.

LHarding Dawg, you don’t fool me. I know you think we have more talent than Florida. That’s a prediction. Yours does stink too. Oh, sorry, I forgot, I wasn’t supposed to come in here and talk about college football, just do like you do and put other posters down and say you do, no you don’t, yes you do, no you don’t, yes you do make predictions

Predicting the outcome of a game on a blog ?

What is the difference in predicting the outcome of a game on a blog ?

And, running in here showing off, like yours doesn’t stink, and saying you wonder what will happen with a poster after the game if we win ?

I must be missing that ?

Explain the difference to me, please ?

@ TampaGator as far as the offense goes we are both thin on the OL but we have the better starters IMHO. I think for now you have better depth and experience at RB( my personal opinion Demps should have stuck with track better future in it for him), we have the edge at TE by a wide margin and we are even at the WR position and we have the edge at QB. On the defensive side of the ball you will see better play from both Jones and Tyson since they were playing at NT last and given the fact that we didn’t have a true NT last year and we do this year helps immensely. The LB position to me is even Jarvis Jones will be a beast for us as will Tree but we are thin and young at the position but I think Jelani Jenkins is going to be a great player for yall. As far as the DB’s go we have depth and the experience edge on you also it is a lot different playing back their when you have someone as talented as Janoris Jenkins was he took away half the field. Again all this is my opinion and again I am a Gator Hater and Bulldog for life so Goooooooo Dawgs and see you at the WLOCP.

Jenkins needs to be ready to spell Geathers a few times in the game. I think Geathers is going to be hard to move from first team, as he has a chip on his shoulder about all of the Jenkins hype, and he will show why he deserves to be on the field. I think the Boise QB, will become very familiar with him by games end. I would hate to be the center that will face this monster the whole game.
UGA should be the under DAWG in this first game match up, since they are young and are filling up some key positions however, if the defense plays like they are capable of doing, I think they win against Boise. The S.C. game is a hard nut to crack though, since they are talented all around, but the key will still be the defensive play of UGA. Stop Lattimore, and you make Garcia have to win the game, and if he has happy feet, it is a coin toss, just like his passes.
I reade the Schultz piece in the AJC, and I really think the man is on drugs. All he is really doing, if you look closely at his article, is basing this season off of last season. Chip should have written that article, as he is years ahead of Schultz in knowledge of UGA football. I think UGA will win 9 or 10 games this year and will get a lot of experience for the coming season for their young players. I think it is really a stretch to predict UGA wins the SEC title and goes undefeated. I hope with a few breaks, that UGA wins maybe the SEC East, but that is as much up in the air as anything.
I just want to see a solid effort for 60 minutes from the DAWGS and a good solid game plan each game, and I think UGA will surprise a few people.

I’m a long time fan and a grad of UGA, but I still can’t convince myself we’ll whip BS. Yeah, the Dawgs are big, bad, and fast, but they were those same things last year. Those are the kinds of players we recruit every year. No doubt we’ll GATA and show them some real athleticism, but I don’t see us executing well enough or consistently enough to beat a top ten team. Our QB’s good, but has never beaten a ranked team. The OL is troublesome at best. The running game is a wish. The defense has athletes, but hasn’t shown they can actually play defense. Too much is unproven. This team will be better than last year’s and will have the record to prove it. But they’ve got a way to go before they’ll start beating ranked teams. Having said all that, I’m pulling for the upset!

If you’re sitting around today waiting on football updates and want to read something football-related, that’s a real heart warming story, read this article in the AJC that you might have missed.

The lady providing assistance to this displaced (now GT) athlete’s family is a fellow Albany pharmacist, and a hugh UGA fan with a heart of gold. This story conveys some of all that is good in this world.

In the event I’ve unsuccessfully provided the link, this story can be found under the GT section on the AJC sports blogs. Hope you enjoy.

Coach Richt should have the whole team text or e-mail Boise’s coach with taunts. Either that or try and have his players follow some decorum…it would be hard but he could try. Unless this is part of his strategy. GO UCF!!!

Dang, ATX Dawg, I almost wish I hadn’t watched that! Felt pretty encourged until I say that BS / VT recap.

Hope our defense can pressure Kellen Moore and cover the BS receivers better, and run the ball better than VT did.

The only good part of that highlight was the X-out after Mark May’s remark that BS just wouldn’t be able to play with BS!

Gonna be a good game and hopefully UGA will play four complete quarters like we’re hearing they are ready to play! Can’t wait. .. Go Dawgs!

COACH RICHT not goning do hot sitting!

He won more games a year and SEC champs than anybodies and cause he knows how to bring in talents. The problem is Adams and not letting Coach Richt sign top talent and stockpile at Hargraves. Then Coach Richt not allowed by Adams to cast out the stinkys that not exposing talents with SEC speed to replace from Hargraves. It Adams and not Coach Richt that problem. Coach Richt proves it this year by winning SEC and mashing Boys Eez back to chump school with cows on plains.

Hairy Dog

I’ll be plesed if our team just plays on offense and defense just plays their best for four full quarters.

On O, playing with focus, knowing their assignments, and makeing the blocks that make room for our RBs, TEs, and WRs to move the chains.

On D, again play focused and knowing their assignments, and tackling with authority, where when our opponent leaves the field at the end of the game, glad that they don’t have to play us again this year.

If we can play that way, and the other team beats us and we don’t beat ourselves, I’ll be proud of their play and know we have a team that plays hard, wants to play for UGA, and wants to win!

I hope we do all the above, and show it beginning against Boise State. .. Good luck, UGA, and Go Dawgs!
