Practice report: Georgia rallies to defeat ‘Boise State’ 38-34

ATHENS – Down 31-0 at halftime, Georgia rallied in the second half and scored a touchdown with 11 seconds remaining for a dramatic 38-34 win over Boise State Wednesday in Sanford Stadium.

OK, so it wasn’t the real Boise State. It was the Bulldogs’ scout team posing as the No. 5-ranked Broncos and going against Georgia’s varsity offense and defense in a practice game at Sanford Stadium.

Georgia coach Mark Richt said he spotted “Boise” the 31 points — they only played one half –  to “create some drama.” And it did.

The Bulldogs were trailing by three inside the Boise 5-yard line late in the fourth quarter when Quantavious Harrow, playing the role of a Broncos’ defensive back, flew in and forced a turnover. But Boise was unable to run out the clock and had to punt the ball back.

Georgia won when Hutson Mason hooked up with Tavarres King on a fade route on third-and-goal.

“We had a great second half and just rolled right through them,” quarterback Aaron Murray quipped.

Richt was happy with the final result and the overall play of the defense but otherwise wasn’t particular thrilled.

“We would not have been ready today,” Richt said. “Even our pregame warmup left a little to be desired.”

Georgia’s defense was particularly resourceful, creating six turnovers and “at least” four interceptions, Richt said. Two of those picks were returned for touchdowns by cornerback Brandon Boykin.

“It was interception mania there for a minute,” Richt said. “But their offensive line didn’t protect very well and that’s the main reason why.”

UGA kept “unofficial official” stats for the scrimmage. Tailback Isaiah Crowell had six carries for 54 yards and a touchdown, Ken Malcome added 11 for 61 and a TD and Brandon Harton had five for 26 and a score for the Georgia offense.

Murray was 5-of-9 passing for 79 yards and Mason 7-of-9 for 98 and a TD. Tight end Orson Charles had three catches for 31 yards, King added three for 21, tight end Aron White had two for 46 and Harton ripped off 49 yards on one reception.

“I actually think it was the best we’ve done in one of these kinds of games” Murray said. “The offense was pretty sharp.”

Defensive end Abry Jones was the defensive star with three tackles and two sacks, cornerback Jordan Love had three stops, a sack and forced a fumble and safety Shawn Williams had an interception and pass break-up.

“As a defense, we took it as our first chance to attack what Boise does,” Abry Jones said. “I think we did a good job. Now we’ve got to go back and look at the film and see what we can do better.”

Also, place-kicker Blair Walsh nailed a 56-yard field goal in his only attempt.

Captains named

Georgia coaches appointed captains for the Boise State game before Wednesday’s scrimmage. They are center Ben Jones, defensive end DeAngelo Tyson, punter Drew Butler and Boykin.

Boykin said he was particularly proud of the honor.

“It means a lot,” he said. “Playing in the Dome in my hometown in the first game of my last year, I really appreciate it.”

Missing in action

Most of the players who have been out the last few days remained sidelined with injuries. Among them was TB Richard Samuel (quadriceps), FB Bruce Figgins (hamstring), TB Carlton Thomas (ankle) WR Malcolm Mitchell (leg muscle) and WR Marlon Brown (ankle).

Etc. . . .

Afterward, Richt said the tailback’s depth chart going into the final week is Samuel first, then Crowell, Harton and Malcome. . . . Georgia will hold a special teams practice today, then a closed situational scrimmage on Friday.

How could Georgia lose to Boise. They have a former Bronco QB and they beat them on the “summer” dream field already…….absolutely guarantees a win…..and also means they will beat SC, Florida, win the East, absolutely clobber an All-Star team made up of Bama, LSU, Arkansas, MSU, and Auburn (sorry Ole Miss) players in the SEC championship game……and then completely show up the Sooners in the NCG…..which will…..after the Georgia victory……immediately stop being the MNC.

while posting such things may be fun for the Dawgnation to enjoy, it also gives posting material to BSU. No need to know what the O and D does against simulations. I think those interceptions were against your scout “make believe” Boise team…..so I doubt it was a defensive issue. But…..it was only practice. And, as John Brantley knows, practice does not guarantee gamep-day performance. If it did, John Brantely would have won the Heisman last summer and fall.

Our scout team is about the talent level Boise is used to playing. 9 teams on their schedule are ranked 71st and higher on Rivals 1-120 pre season ratings. They play mostly cupcakes. Why would Peterson ever want to come to the SEC and Face Miss St one week, Auburn the next, then LSU, then travel to Florida, come home to Bama and ride over to Athens and see the Dawgs and finish out with South Carolina. The North Nevada States of the world look pretty good to him.

I don’t need to Google Auburn’s schedule (or LSU’s for that matter which is just as tough). My point is that there are a few weak sisters in the SEC and every team plays at least 2 of them. BSU would not have to play every powerhouse in the SEC – UGA, UF, among others, don’t.

Paul, you are missing my point. the schedule would not be exact. Boise plays 9 teams ranked by Rivals that are 71st or higher out of the 120 div 1 teams listed. Beating up on them proves nothing, certainly not a top 5 ranking. Those teams would be schedule filler in the SEC for big money for them. I believe the SEC has 7 or 8 pre season top 25. Our D sounds locked, loaded, and ready. Crowell had 6 carries for 54 yards and a touchdown. This guy seems so explosive and just may prove to be the real deal. 54 yards on 6 carries?! Samuel needs to hurry up and bet back. We need him. I’d have to agree with letting Samuel start the game vs. Boise. I don’t think you want to put Crowell in there right away because Boise’s defense will be licking their chops if they see a freshman tailback in there. The first hard hit he takes he could lose confidence. Samuel won’t budge. Plus Samuel is huge.

Our defense seems ready, forcing lots of turnovers and the running game just may be back to life. The passing needs to be cleaned up a little bit and the offensive line needs to shore up some things but by next Saturday we should be good. Remember, when it gets real, next Saturday at 8:00 these boys will be amped up and they’ll show it on the field.

They probably aren’t even going full throttle in these little “scrimmages”. These coaches just want to see what they have in the players. But next Saturday night when it really matters, and it really counts the players, coaches, and fans will be all hyped and ready to play smashmouth football. The players will enhance their play, the coaches will enhance their coaching, etc. Don’t you think receivers will have the motivation to run better routes when it’s not their teammates their going against? Don’t you think Crowell will run harder against Boise than his own teammates? Don’t you think Murray will be focused on getting his team a W vs. Boise rather than his own team? I think so.

We will beat Boise. Thanks to the Defense and solid play out of Murray and a few big plays by Crowell. Remember Boise fans, if we receive first, you better watch out for Boykin, because he might just run one back on you. See ya next Saturday

Boise can try all they want. They won’t beat us. I don’t think you realize just how big of players we have here at UGA. You see them on tv, see them in person. It’s totally different. Boise just hasn’t seen the speed or size anywhere before. Not in the WAC, they won’t see it in the MWC, and they haven’t seen it from any of their previous opponents. Not Virginia Tech or Oregon.

Not only are these guys big but they are ferocious and fast. Kellen Moore will have about 2-3 seconds tops in the pocket to make a decision and with our DBs being in the 2nd year under the 3-4 and coaching from Scott Lakatos, Moore won’t have a huge window to throw to his receivers. The windows will be very tight and he’ll have to fit in there.

Having to worry about fitting a ball in a tight window with big D-linemen and linebackers coming for your head is not what you want to go through. In 10 days, Kellen Moore will have the worst night of his life. Trust me on that. My name is Colt Brennan.

After we stomp Boise, we will have all the momentum in the world to beat SC at home for our home crowd. Did you guys notice that Garcia had little to no impact in last season’s game. Lattimore scored both touchdowns that SC had last season. They scored 17 so they had two touchdowns and a field goal. Garcia didn’t throw for a TD. If we take Lattimore away, (which we have bigger bodies and a better understanding to do so) then SC can’t beat us. They just can’t. Because Garcia can’t win a game on his own.

A 9-5 season with a blowout in the SEC championship game is nothing to brag about. You beat us 17-6 when we had a freshman QB…1st year in a brand new defense….lack of leadership & attitude…poor S & C program…no running game…an Ealey fumble…and on top of that we played you IN Columbia. Just think about that.

How many times are all you writers and fans going to keep pouring turpentine in an old sore? LAST YEAR is old news. This season starts with a clean record. As good as Texas has been over the years they had a bad year also. Coach Richt has done a good job of keeping the school out of the NCAA outhouse. He brought in agood recruiting class this past year. A coach is as good as his players make him. We need another good year or two recruiting to rebuild the level of talent at UGA. We need to have some patience. I would love to go undefeated and win the national championship but expectations and reality are not the same thing. If the team shows improvement and doesnt roll over and play dead like they did at times last year the fans need to get that old UGA fire and spirit back in the stands and let the players know that we are behind them all the way. There was a lot of times last year that it just didnt seem like the homefield roar was the same as years past. Starting with the mashed tater bowl next week lets put the fight back in our young Dogs. We will have mashed taters and gravy one week and fried chicken the next week. Maybe we get these young puppies used to eating good they will have a hankering for some gator tail on down the line.

just my opinion but I think the reason the chickens play us so tough is because they play us so early in the year and they really want to beat their next door neighbor. Prozac Dawg……

I don’t get that artice……game match ups do not include guards against guards and linebackers against linebackers……they are about guards against linebackers, etc. You think the writer would have compared players in such fashion to really get a match up factor for the game.

But……to say Murray is better than Moore….at this point…..made the writer lose all credibility for me. Moore proved his big time status against Va. Tech’s defense last year. Murray has yet to prove such big game status…..if anything….the opposite is true. This is not to say Murray is not a very good QB….because I think he will be one of the best QBs in the SEC this year…..but no way is he currently better than Moore.

San Diego State? Colorado State? Come on man. If Murray played that schedule he’d be all-world too. But he doesn’t. He plays in the rugged SEC where stats don’t come easily. I don’t care about stats. I want wins. OOOOOO Boise is in for a ruddeee awakening. If I’m a Georgia football player, I literally can’t wait to get my hands on Boise. Like literally.

Paul in NH, actually UF’s schedule this year is as bad as it gets. UF plays Alabama, at LSU and at Auburn in back to back weeks from the SEC west, and then the SEC east teams – UT, UGA and South Carolina. Plus we finish with top 5 FSU. So yeah, some years SEC teams do play all those tough teams in one year.

I think UGA will be way too physical – and fast for Boise and will beat them something like 34-17.

Question: What major SEC team this Murray lead Georgia to victory over last year. None. Not even a down Florida team. Not a bad Colorado team. Not against SC. Not against Auburn. But he did beat one ACC team….Ga. Tech….which was no where near at good as Va. Tech.

Let Murray lead his team to beat SC, Auburn, and Florida this year (especialloy SC and Florida)…and then Murray’s name can be mentioned with Moore. Not yet, my man.

Mark Richt has addressed, every issue. Mike Bobo the offensive coordinator Bryan McClendon the RB coach recruit a fullback the last 6 recruiting classes who plays the forward pass in our secondary hole in the OL in the starting 5, and anyone behind them now 26 players who would have played vs Boise State who no longer even on roster none of them are Mark Richt’s “coaching staff’s” responsibility for running off lose game number 11 in 11 years this season of Mark Richt and his “coaching staff” to a team who does not end up in the AP Poll Top 25, like Florida for example Will we beat Florida or go 2-9 vs Florida his 11 years here ? Are we better than South Carolina in game 2, or will it be not a winning record vs The SEC East the last 6 consecutive seasons the night after the game 2 ? Oh, yeah he has really fixed things. All issues fixed. Hands us all yet another wardrobe malfunction with lies that all the players just love looking like a Japanese cartoon CLOWN SUIT. Will not have beat any team finishing in the AP Poll Top 10 yet again this season. Have our wide receivers just awesome out there or not 10 cupcakes (1) whatever cruddy bowl game opponent we get this season, like we have been getting all 10 years of Mark Richt here (2) Boise State avg # 69 recruiting class all 5 of the last 5 years making up their squad 1 week from Saturday, try to tell me that is not a cupcake and yes absolutely if we lose that game I will give this “coaching staff” of Mark Richt all they can handle, I am fed up with it. Did you get that ? (3) Coastal Carolina as War Dang Dawg tells you right above me, you DUCK while you brag of Richt compared to Ray Goff us # 11 all-time in 1-A wins but # 23 the last 5 years of 21 Losses by DIRECT CONTRAST (4) Ole Miss (5) vols (6) Vandie, or do you plan on saying a 4-win Vandie who beat us 2006 was not a cupcake too liar ?

Boise State is a good team. Look Bubba, you say I cannot write in a sports blog on UGA football, and come in here with that – that Boise State is a good team ? You know nothing about that. Boise State has no player considered a top 100 Scout.com player. We have 21. Boise State has 1 player ranked a 5-Star or 4-Star player the last 5 years they play with against our 51. They average # 81 opponent all 2011 regular season long for 10 of their 12 games, according to Rivals.com. They avg # 69 recruiting class according to Rivals. They have won the most games in the Mark Richt era here at UGA, but they are in fact only 8 wins out of 31 games vs the 6 BCS Conferences, and have put only 15 players in the NFL to our 45 today, according to the NFL. My rear, Boise State is a good team. They are NOT. 32-18 and that figures that we get off to our start of 30 fumbles this season, with us not able to teach our offense how to fall on fumbles well either. Otherwise, not even that close. South Carolina, last year, LOST Five (5) games William. Carolina by 10 you say William. You know what William, if I knew as little about football as you profess, I would not be walking in a football blog BRAGGING how great I was, were I you

BS may end up winning but nobody really has a clue because they only play one hard game per year and it’s always the first game hoping that a better team will not be prepared for a well discipline ready team like Boise State . This comes from having a very good coach. The rest of the schedule would be equivalent to Georgia playing Vanderbilt or Kentucky 11 times. They have had a lot of success playing very reparable and good teams that don’t give them enough credit and take them for granted which is just enough disrespect so they come out on top.
I hope Georgia will take them very serious because they have proven they deserve our respect.

Sure the Strength and Conditioning of Joe Tereshinski II is doing a great job, when we all know that the 1st thing you do in any practice or any weight-lifting or other conditioning work-out, is to stretch.

Let’s see now. All the most important positions, guys who have NEVER PLAYED are supposed to step right in, learning this Fall Camp for the 1st time, and NONE of them have been able to go – at all – not 1 practice.

After the game, a UGA player who reads, writes, and speaks at a 5th grade level will be interviewed on TV, and millions of viewers will wonder why Mark Richt recruits these dummies and why UGA admits them.

It makes you long for the days when ethical UGA coaches like Wallace Butts and Harry Mehre recruited literate athletes who actually earned serious college degrees.

If you doubt this, go back and read Caleb King’s farewell tweet. The guy couldn’t even write a coherent sentence. This simpleton should have been sweeping floors somewhere, not enrolled in college.

It’s common knowledge and an unquestioned fact that UGA head football coach Mark Richt has brought shame on the state of Georgia and made an embarrassing laughingstock of the state’s largest university. Even the most avid UGA fans understand this even when they won’t acknowledge it, bless their hearts. :-)

The most embarrassing thing is the win-at-any-price mentality of Richt, which has effectively made UGA a football factory, with cheating, recruiting of low-intelligence jerks who barely graduated from high school, and tolerating immoral and unethical activities by both players and coaches. Even with all this, he still can’t win.

Richt is a product of the lawless environments of the University of Miami and Florida State University, where he learned well how to conduct himself in the most tawdry way, while pretending to the world to be a saint. Make no mistake – Richt is in coaching purely for the millions of dollars that have been wasted on him, and the millions more he will add until someone in Athens has the integrity and intestinal fortitude to run him out of town.

A truly shameful situation, especially since all Georgians, including UGA alumni and fans, have to live under this shadow of infamy.

sure are a lot of dismissive comments about the #5 team in the country. People who make their living crunching the numbers, the computer models, and have scouts around the country have set the line at BSU -3.

So, you’d expect rational people to approach this game as if they were an underdog. As if they’d just finished a miserable year and lost their best player to boot. But no, the delusional Bulldog fans ( I refuse to call this bunch of underachievers “Dawgs” until they win something) rant about how bad BSU is.

OMG!! Richt’s favorite quote”We weren’t ready today”or better yet, “we weren’t ready to play today’s game. My question to all UGA fans and to this pathetic coaching staff, when was the last big game UGA’s players were ready to play? I guess it would be the Sugar bowl against Hawaii. This statement by Richt is getting as old and stagnant as Bobo’s and Richt’s game plans on saturdays. The only positive thing this year brings all UGA fans is that we will only have to read this same statement by Richt a couple more times this year and he and this staff will be gone. It will be fun to watch some of the young talent develop on the field this year. That is if this brilliant coaching staff allows them to play, and if any of them are healthy enough after they all have pulled hamstrings or some other muscle pull in their legs. This is a joke, that these players don’t the appropriate stretching for select muscle group to insure they don’t get these pulled muscles. I read the S.C, Bama, and Florida blogs everyday, and none of them have all the backs out with pulled hamstrings, or groins, like UGA does. This is no coincidence, this is common sense and lack of stretching supervised by knowledgeable coaches.

Well it is just about time for the talking to stop and the hitting to begin. Boise is a very well coached team and they have the winning habit, UGA is coming off a couple of down years and luckily last years meltdown doesn’t seem to be negatively effecting this years squad. The absence of all the off the field problems and arrests the departure of some questionable players seems to have helped motivate this squad . The new S.C training, seems to my mind to be working so far, we do have a number of players out with “pulls” of one sort or another but we have so far only one season ending injury…compare that with 2008. We start the season ranked which I have to admit has me scratching my head…6-7 and we are in the top 25 ? But we will take it best news is that we are not under a NCAA cloud only one player will miss the opener due to a “transgression” and it is the start of the college football season ! I am hoping for a win, it will not be a blow out either way, in the end I am a SEC homer and I think we have too much size and speed for Boise to overcome..if we play smart, limit penalties and turnovers and GATA…we win . Here’s hoping for a great game and both teams get out injury free.

We need to come out in mid season form for this game. Yes I understand the “Boise plays the sisters of the poor” schools for most of their schedule, but I will also tell you this – their head coach is really good, and while their players may not be 4-5 star – they do a darned good job dont they …. and if Boise is given time to plan, they can line up with just about anyone (hence the big season opening wins and bowl games – lots of time to prepare). To me a bigger measuring stick is how you do when you have these big games in the middle of the season with only 1 week to propare.
I am concerned because Boise usually plays very well in these types of games (see comment above) and we usually dont start off very well. 2005 means nothing to this game – Boise is a lot better than they were in 2005, we are not as good as we were in 2005. Add to that the fact that we are not playing in Athens where 90+ temp and high humidity would take its toll on Boise.

@BCSstinks — So UGA has no proven RB, cool, BSU has no proven record. They beat a VT team last year and heralded themselves as the great mid-major that could. Until James Madison beat that same VT team the very next week. Not as impressive then now is it. And VT has never been all that anyway. So the great BSU goes on to run the table next year .. oh wait, no they didn’t, they lost to NEVADA! Please! Don’t come in here talking about how unproven UGA players are at any position when BSU hasn’t proven anything against the SEC and this current squad beat a mediocre 2009 Oregon team on the first game of the year (that same Oregon team lost to unranked Stanford later in 2009). BSU likes to play with an underdog ‘chip on the shoulder’ attitude. That is not happening much anymore with the conference foes. But some of you sec fans seem to believe that because UGA is stocked with highly recruited athletes and play in the SEC that you are entitled to win. If your team believes that ’showing up’ with a team full of 4/5 star recruits is all it takes – they will get hammered. UGA had better come to play – BSU will be ready and they are not a finesse team. They WANT to beat you in the trenches.

August 25th, 2011

Does anyone here recall that QB from Hawaii? He vs UGA in the Sugar Bowl looked like Quincy Carter did a few years ago vs SC when he stepped up to the line of scrimmage ……………100% confused. Hawaii was small but slow. U of H QB was vastly over rated. Way over rated that QB was. Where is he now? Surfing?? Yeah, probably.

Hawaii was also highly regarded by primarily west coast media and coaches. Boise State is a good team but they would not win 4 games in the SEC. Frankly, UGA has been lucky to win 4 SEC games lately and I am a UGA grad ……………………..twice! This must change this year. Period. Game over for CMR if we do not win 9 or 10.

No, UGA must manage the clock vs BS and run the ball and not go after those ill conceived Mike Bobo home runs shots on first down and waste a series. No, he must grind them down with running plays and sweeps. Then, only after etablishing a solid running game, would I allow Murray to loft the ball for deep routes.

Murray needs to throw dump offs to his tight ends and running backs in order to sustain long drives and control that clock. If we end up 3rd and 12 all night long, it will be a very long night.

Tampa i love your enthusiasm, but to knock B.S and say they aren’t proven because they haven’t beaten anyone, and Va.Tech was not a good team. What team did UGA beat last year that was as good as Va.Tech? The answer is no one. Until UGA beats a team with a winning record or a ranked team again, i don’t get all the smack that UGA fans are talking about this team and this coaching staff. For the 50th time i would like to remind all UGA fans that this UGA team is not in the same class as the UGA team that destroyed B.S in Athens 4 or 5 years ago. And this B.S. team is not in the same class as the team that UGA destroyed then. So while enthusiasm is wonderful this time of the year, i think history with this staff has taught us not to be too overconfident when UGA plays a ranked team. Hell, lately this staff and team has taught us not to be overconfident no matter who UGA plays.

Joey

BradW, thanks for the compliment, but our Dawgs have been anything but a “great team” for 3 years now. We haven’t beat a ranked opponent but once in the past two seasons, when we were losing 12 games, several in blowout fashion, and a couple to horrible teams. It’s hard to figure if Richt got complacent or just that the coaching got so good in the SEC.

I’m hoping Richt can get us back to competing for the East title, as we were accustomed to for his first 7 seasons, but contrary to what a lot of my fellow Dawgs on here believe, I think Boise will give us all we can handle next Saturday. Weak schedules have nothing to do with that one game, and the last few times we have faced teams from “inferior” conferences, we got beat. And, we got beat by teams no where as good as Boise.

Let them play in a conference where a difficult team is part of the routine, week in and week out, and then they can say something about it. The VT win, not impressive .. the Oregon win 2 years ago, not impressive. These are 1st game of the season wins against teams that were ok at best that season. one more thing BigDawg, the last UGA team that beat up BSU had a first year starter in DJ Shockley, a cast of Sophomore RBs (none proven), one Senior WR in Bryan McClendon (Massaquoi was a Freshman that year), 1 Senior up front on D, and a handful in the defensive backfield. It wasn’t like that was a team that anyone expected anything from having just lost people like David Greene, David Pollack, and Fred Gibson

Really David? I mean he gives the starters one half of football already down 31-0 (a score CMR set .. not that the starters actually scored 31 points). In that half the scout team scores 3 and the starters post 38.

I have read a lot of stuff about Boise.

Here is what I have read.

Solid QB
Solid RB
WR are young and not much experience. Game changers from last year in NFL
OL has a couple of good players but concerns exist about our DL size and speed and size of our LB
They are really concerned about kicking to Boykin
They are REALLY concerned about FG kicker. One guy commented they might go for it on 4th down every time and go for 2 after TD’s
They are concerned about our throwing more than our running because their DL is the strength of the team. Inexperience abounds in the secondary.

That’s about it. I have read a couple of crazy predictions but 99% of the folks are saying nail biter time.

I also don’t expect Boise State to score 31 pts. I think it will be a low scoring hard fought game and will come down to who makes the least mistakes. I think their defense is going to suprise a lot of Georgia fans, but their offense is not unstoppable. @Boise Dawg .. I am SHOCKED that there are that many UGA fans up there. I know we travel well but apparently some found a nice place to stay after a game. I respect what BSU has done over the years. I just don’t think enough people will ever give credit to having a tough SEC team 8 games a year. Then other conference fans complain about your team not scheduling OOC games and when you do, they want to jump on you about that too. Like when a PAC10 fan shouts about the 2 OOC games his school is playing and talking about how great their OOC schedule is. Boise Dawg, I know someday a mid-major team is going to win it all. Won’t be this year, but some day. As the Big 10 has found out many times, it is a different animal playing lack luster teams then having to step in the ring with an SEC team. They think when we talk about team speed we are speaking of skill position players. Not at all. Everyone is fast there. But in the DL/OL, SEC is fast. In the LB corp, SEC is fast. Heck, even some of our QBs will run a sub 4.5 40 .. Again respect is there for BSU, especially, being a big fan of great QBs, Kellen Moore, but I just think we are going to see a repeat of the same thing. Big hype, but not quite ready. 2005s UGA team wasn’t expected to do much going into the BSU game either.

Boise State has a good coach, and some good athletes, as well. They don’t attract the 4 and 5-star recruits like the SEC programs do, but they have a lot of 3-star players who come in and work hard. (And who sometimes have a chip on their shoulder from not being ranked as highly as they thought they should have been…so they hit the weight room hard, and play with that “aggressive resentment”.)
BSU is starting 14 seniors, and their senior class record is 38-2, including a BCS Bowl win. They remind me of a school like Butler in college basketball, in that they find a way to compete. In both cases, good execution seems to be at the foundation of their success. This is going to be a good game, and I damn sure hope Coach Richt has the team ready to play hard from the opening kickoff.

Petersen won’t say much on injuries but didn’t seem particularly concerned about them. He said before camp that Makinde likely would miss games with his chest injury. Tight end Chandler Koch limped off and wide receiver Aaron Burks was carted off during the scrimmage. Petersen would only say that those injuries don’t appear to be season-ending.

Last year was one of UGA’s worst years yes, but GT fan has NO ROOM to talk after losing to a 3-9 Kansas team, a 6-7 Clemson team, a 7-6 Miami team, a bad 9-4 NC State team (yes, they were bad, look at the teams they beat and the ones they lost to), and yes, a 6-7 UGA team. Might want to keep the noise down over there Mr. 1-9 over 10 years vs. UGA and hasn’t won a bowl game since 2004.

Boise has posted guys running 4.34 40s just like UGA and beat a super fast Oregon team. This will be a good game, but by no means a blow out by either team.
