Nike beats UGA to punch and unveils Pro Combat uniforms

uganotes.0821

UGA and Nike showed off the Bulldogs' Pro Combat uniform that the team will wear for its opening game against Boise State. (Brant Sanderlin/bsanderlin@ajc.com)

ATHENS – UGA was claiming to offer the first glimpse at noon today of the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms on its Facebook page (facebook.com/georgiabulldogs). But apparently Nike didn’t get the memo. The sneaker giant went ahead and posted pictures earlier this morning of the uniforms they’ll wear against Boise State in the Chick-fil-A game.

Click RIGHT HERE to take a look for yourself. In general, it’s all red with a silver helmet and black socks. Reaction on Twitter and Facebook and on fan sites this morning has been somewhat divided with more dislikes than likes, from what I can see. Some of the comments have been hilarious.

UPDATE: Here’s A LINK to UGA’s gallery and a video at georgiadogs.com.

Let’s hear what you guys think.

This is just a total money grab. Another reason CFB continues to crap all over what makes it special (it’s traditions) for short term profits.

It’s just sad.

“Knowledge equals power but imagination equals way more powerful actions”

I too give these new uniforms two thumbs up!

Uniforms don’t make the player….the player makes the uniform!

It may be time for the Bulldawg Nation to search in their minds for that imagination, to free our youth from the traditions of the past so that they may forge their own way to higher heights…while still having full respect for traditions of the past.

To all the whiners out there claiming to be UGA fans (closet techies and other imposters)…

we really don’t care whether you like the uniforms or not so go flog yourself.

As for all our TRUE fans that disagree with the new look…CHILL. It’s only for this one game, ya’ll.

Nike made the call on this one because of the special venue. They’re doing it for the promo dollars and seven other teams are having to wear this Star Wars-looking crap as well.

It’s opening day of football season, ya’ll. That’s reason enough to get pumped no matter what we’re wearing. Besides, when we’re kicking the “Blue Boys” all the way back to SpudNation, nobody is gonna care how we’re dressed while we’re doing it.

The uniforms are not that ugly but they could of did a lil better on the jersey. The Helment is cool. UGA fans need to get with the change and get away from the traditional. Yall worried about tradition uniforms, why won’t yall worry about our great tradition of the being a power house program of winning. AND TO GET THE RECORD STRAIGHT THE ALL BLACKOUT AGAINST FLA WAS A HIT TO THE YOUNGER GENERATION…UGA HAS SOME PLAIN LOOKING UNIFORMS…THEY NEED CHANGE

@ Power Dawg

Even the people who are not traditionalist like myself don’t like the uniforms. They should not have had a red, black and silver jersey with plain red pants. The helmet is cool though. Maybe it will grow on me. As for the “traditionalist”… if there is a term with the many uniform changes UGA has had. I don’t understand them. They are made up fraternity group of UGA fans that believes they are better than any and everything…. I mean.even the legendary VINCE DOOLEY teams wore red britches….how’s that for tradition?

They are pretty cool, but it doesn’t make the difference. The blackout against auburn in 2007 will never be replicated, that is a once in a lifetime moment.

Other times when we’ve won different uniforms, we’ve performed very poor. I don’t care what the dawgs as long as they win. I hope Crowell runs like the dude in the video does!
