Nike beats UGA to punch and unveils Pro Combat uniforms

ATHENS – UGA was claiming to offer the first glimpse at noon today of the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms on its Facebook page (facebook.com/georgiabulldogs). But apparently Nike didn’t get the memo. The sneaker giant went ahead and posted pictures earlier this morning of the uniforms they’ll wear against Boise State in the Chick-fil-A game.
Click RIGHT HERE to take a look for yourself. In general, it’s all red with a silver helmet and black socks. Reaction on Twitter and Facebook and on fan sites this morning has been somewhat divided with more dislikes than likes, from what I can see. Some of the comments have been hilarious.

I agree with several comments on here:
Obviously these things make any one else’ uniforms look good (even Oregon);
As long as we win the game, I am not concerned about wearing an ugly uniform one time;
As to whether these truly gaudy things fire the team up – if we’re to the point where we need uniforms to supply energy to our players when we are playing a top 10 team on national TV then we are in serious trouble as a program.

So Nike and some project runway reject dictate to UGA what uniforms the Dawgs will wear. So Adams and the athletic department get a few extra dollars and the Dawgs become live action mannequins in a “Footbal Fashion Show’. As a legendary football coach once said”What the hell is going on out here”!!!!!!!!

They don’t look BAD, but at least keep the silver britches! Not too fond of the giant red stripe on the helmet either. All in all, I wish Nike would stop messing around with people’s jerseys. The only good one I’ve seen so far was VT’s last year against Boise. Plus, uniform changes haven’t gone well for us since we stomped Hawai’i…

I’m more interested in the fact that Crowell went full out this morning and had a terrific practice. Anyone else that thinks the uniforms are more important than that fact has way too much time on their hands.

I wish I had not even looked. So this is how far Richt has fallen. I’m reminded of what Bart Giamatti said when Pete Rose was suspended from baseball: “This is a sad end to a sorry episode.” Hopefully the next coach will get back to traditions like winning football games. I am so disheartened.

How much does Nike pay to get schools to change uniforms? This kind of take-over of a schools uniform should be banned. The uniforms are disgraceful, looks like a local high school team and a bad one at that. Shame on my alma mater for buying into this!

Just my opinion, but if the players like the uniforms and come out and play their best for four complete quarters with a GATA attitude, and play ON FIRE like the Pro-Combat uniforms convey, then the Dawg Nation should be pleased.

The Dawgs go 6and 7 and get to open up with the #5 team in the country.I guess taking Nike money and having to wear their uniform is worth it. Now if the Dawgs can take advantage of the opportunity and win the game, if not it will be another long year and more gimmicks to keep the players interested.

I remember walking onto campus for orientation in 2003, and two traditions bragged about, and were even given to students in a little book of traditions, were the silver britches and the GA g on the red helmet. These uniforms are a disgrace to our tradition. Its ok to modernize, but don’t mess with tradition, especially at a school who is proud of and teaches its students to be proud of its tradition.

Maybe the last few years have made me too cynical ,but on further review why is the 4th place team in the SEC east playing in this game. Did South Carolina ,Florida and Tennessee turn down Nike and the Chicken bowl people. I guess that boise is only going to sell 2500 tickets they need the Dawg fans to fill up dome.Just can’t kick the feeling that Adams and the athletic department is gambling the whole 2011 season on this game:for what reason some extra cash in there pockets?It seems like more of the same old crap since Adams took over bleed the fans dry for every dollar you can get.
