Nike beats UGA to punch and unveils Pro Combat uniforms

ATHENS – UGA was claiming to offer the first glimpse at noon today of the new Nike Pro Combat uniforms on its Facebook page (facebook.com/georgiabulldogs). But apparently Nike didn’t get the memo. The sneaker giant went ahead and posted pictures earlier this morning of the uniforms they’ll wear against Boise State in the Chick-fil-A game.
Click RIGHT HERE to take a look for yourself. In general, it’s all red with a silver helmet and black socks. Reaction on Twitter and Facebook and on fan sites this morning has been somewhat divided with more dislikes than likes, from what I can see. Some of the comments have been hilarious.

UGA’s coaches are freaking awful. Look at the team they had in 2008. Top 10 draft talent at QB, WR, and RB. NFL talent at numerous other positions. And yet they get their @#$# packed in against every good opponent they face. UGA will never win with CMR and his drinking buddies coaching the team.

Dawg ‘88, I wish the other thing that people would get, including administrators, is that Nike/Phil Knight is pumping enormous amounts of money into Oregon U. to turn them into a college football superpower with facilities second to none. Nice to know Nike’s profits from selling the Dawgs logo on this monstrosity is going to fund millions of dollars worth of facilities at Oregon.

You dawg fans that come in here trashing the uniforms are some of the same ones that sit in the stadium during the game with your radio headsets on and do not cheer. Let the kids enjoy these uniforms because they look great. They are not tradition and thats why people are dogging on them so bad. Some of you probably really like them but are complaining because you think Georgia sold out to Nike so it wouldn’t matter how good the uniforms looked, you would still complain. There is absolutely nothing wrong with those uniforms. How about instead of worrying about the tradition in what we wear, we worry about starting a new tradition of winning some national championships. I didn’t realize we had so many fashion artist men in the bulldawg nation.

I wish people would quit lumping everyone into the same group. I’m sure there are plenty of players who do not like these uniforms. I’m sure not all of those against the uniforms are “old farts” who sit on their hands on the North Side.
By the way, what’s worse, an alumnus who might not yell on every 3rd down or a student who gets too blown out to even get his sorry behind into the stadium before the 2nd quarter?
Anyway, I am in neither of the above groups and there is something wrong with these uniforms. It encapsulates what is wrong about college football today. E$PN and Nike run the show and everyone has sold out to them. The football programs are just there to fill hours of programming, sell ads, and model clothes and shoes. Who cares about integrity as long as you get the $$$$$$.

Mark Richt has experienced some of his worse losses when he’s tinkered with the traditional uniform. Black jerseys three years ago against ‘Bama. Black helmets two years ago against Florida. Just about every “blackout” they’ve attempted —
