Noah Coslov of Cinesport called this morning to ask me some questions about Georgia’s preseason football camp.

Chip,

There has been alot of speculation surrounding IC1 groin injury. On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most severe….How bad is it?

Chip,

Look the AM winning the big game is the only negative we can say. Every young QB trying to prove himself has the same questions. We cannot cast a light on AM future success based off of not doing it last season. He proved last season he has the skillset to do it if the talent offensively AND defensively do there job. AM’s future is very bright while in Athens.

Only problem is, Mark Richt is still our head coach. Unless he got real good in the offseason, we can expect more of the same.

I would take Murray over any of those quarterbacks in a heartbeat. Brantley may be a senior but he had an awful season last year and it was his first year as a starter. In fact it was questionable whether or not he would start for UF this year.

Spot on Chip. The defense should be greatly improved this year but the RB situation is not going so well. I hope our defense can keep us in the game for the first 3 or so games and then, if no more injuries occur, the RB’s should be ready to go at full speed. UGA has a tough first two games so we will need every player to step up and maybe find somethin deep inside of them, to give the effort beyond what they thought they could. Not worried about the defense doing that, but the offensive coach will really have to sell his end to the players this year. They really have nothing to gain by being conservative and playing not to lose. We need to step it up and play to win.

These injuries to the RB’s are a real concern this close to game 1. The dawgs will need a healthy starting 11 for the 1st two games against two good teams. I wouldn’t be surprised if either RS or IC is held out of first game due to injury.

Just hope the defense is as good as everyone is reporting. Heard the same last season then losing 4 straight. Grantham will be the second coming of Van Gorder if he can repair a def that was as porous as water thru sand last season. Lets hope so.

GO DAWGS.

CMS: Obviously I don’t know how bad Crowell’s injury is. All I can go on is what CMR is saying. IC supposed to return to practice today but not expected to be 100 percent. The practice that I saw him, when the groin injury first arose, he looked severely limited. But that has been a week now.

Hate to sound like a parrot, but I too don’t understand the Brantley comment. Brantley hasn’t done squat. I do agree however that Murray must win some big games and i think he will if our defense comes up big this year.

Chip, whats the word on the harton kid at tailback? How does he look just in case the worst case scenario happens and were without both crowell and samuel.

Nice job Chip. You are a solid beat writer for UGA just like you were for Recruiting. I think you are headed to bigger and better things like writing nationally for someone in the future. I miss the 10 at 10 it was absolutely great looking for it.

Brandon Smith running behind Figgins could be a good backup plan. As for AM not winning the big game excluding the bowl game, he did his part but the lack of a defense is what counted for a losing season last year. Time will tell, but it looks as we have the defense headed in the right direction; now can we can fix the OL. Sweet deams; start and end the regular season in the GD.

From what I’ve read elsewhere and with the updates and information you’ve provided us, Chip, I like our chances this year.

With overall better team discipline and focus, (hopefully) improved S&C, and with a re-newed defensive character where everyone better knows their assignments, where they should be in their allignment, and with better tackling efforts, I think this D will be greatly improved.

And offensively, I hope that in our first two games, Aaron Murry can play his best yet to help get us those wins that will remove all doubt that he just can’t win the big games.

I’m optimistically looking forward to going to the Dome on the 3rd and seeing UGA get their first 2011 win. It’s great to be a Georgia Bulldog. .. Go Dawgs!

Aaron will be much better this year. Everyone knows coach Richt is looking for redemption this year and no way he doesn’t get more involved with the offense. I would take AM over any other QB in the SEC. Coach Richt will prove the kind of Head Coach he is and I am so glads he is at UGA! We got business to tend to and 2011 will be great! GATA Dawgs!

It’s common knowledge and an unquestioned fact that UGA head football coach Mark Richt has brought shame on the state of Georgia and made an embarrassing laughingstock of the state’s largest university. Even the most avid UGA fans understand this even when they won’t acknowledge it, bless their hearts. :-)

The most embarrassing thing is the win-at-any-price mentality of Richt, which has effectively made UGA a football factory, with cheating, recruiting of low-intelligence punks who barely graduated from high school, and tolerating immoral and unethical activities by both players and coaches. Even with all this, he still can’t win.

Richt is a product of the lawless environments of the University of Miami and Florida State University, where he learned well how to conduct himself in the most tawdry way, while pretending to the world to be a saint. Make no mistake – Richt is in coaching purely for the millions of dollars that has been wasted on him, and the millions more he will add until someone in Athens has the integrity and intestinal fortitude to run him out of town.

A truly shameful situation, especially since all Georgians, including UGA alumni and fans, have to live under this shadow of infamy.

Groin injuries/strains often take months to recover fully from, depending on severity. A 4 or 5 on a scale of 1 to 10 is pretty concerning. And it always seems that premature efforts to rehab and play at close to anywhere north of 65% before fully healed almost always leads to the “lingering” status which plague a player for an entire season or more (as in the case of Boo).
Lets hope as some of the so-called insiders have speculated that CMR and CMB are secretly test running some Nick Marshall running back plays,

South Carolina offense and Steve Spurrier will destroy what DAWG defense there is on September 10th. Boise State will expoit any weakness in the DAWG defense and Spurrier will pick them apart. Lattimore version 2 is coming along with a dose of Clowney for Murray to chowe down on.

BACK BY POPULAR “JOKE” dude you are so far from the truth I almost didn’t waste time to respond but figured I would donate a few words to your rehab. Mark Richt is one of the few coaches that not only lives a Christian life but puts it out there for all to see. He takes players on mission trips every year and if he never lives up to your standards, the Georgia faithful will still be proud of coach Richt.

The only reason Georgia’s defense looks improved is that they’ve been going against a severely weakened Georgia offense this year.

Reality on how bad the pass defense is will come on September 3.

Reality on how bad the run defense is will come on September 10.

Meanwhile, Georgia Tech’s defensive improvement has come against the same top 5 Tech rushing offense from last year.

This is real improvement, instead of the B.S. happy talk coming out of Athens.
