ATHENS – The bad news is the Bulldogs lost one-time starting safety Jakar Hamilton to a season-ending ankle injury this week. The good news for Georgia is there was a good chance Hamilton wouldn’t have started had he been healthy.

Williams
That’s chiefly because of the emergence of Shawn Williams. The junior from Early County has been one of the success stories in year two of defensive coordinator Todd Grantham’s 3-4 defense. With Hamilton sidelined for the entirety of preseason, Williams has been as solid as a block of granite in the back third of the No. 1 unit.
And he knows it.
“I pretty much know each and every play what I’m supposed to do,” said Williams, who started three games and played in all 13 last season. “I’ve got it down pat. I’d say [I'm grading] at least 95 percent.”
Not only has the light come on for Williams in terms of understanding schemes and knowing responsibilities, but his confidence has gone through the roof.
In regard to his ability to field the position, he said: “I’ve got the perfect size at 6-1-and-a-half , 220 [pounds]. I can run real fast. A lot of people underestimate my speed. And when I hit, I hit real hard.”
On losing Hamilton to injury: “We’ve got enough to play. We’ve got enough to play two or three secondaries. I feel comfortable about it. If the ones can’t get it done, the twos can get it done. We’re good.”
Heading into the last two weeks of the preseason, Williams appears to have locked down the safety position opposite Bacarri Rambo (the strong and free positions are interchangeable in Grantham’s system). Hamilton, a five-game starter last year, was listed behind Rambo entering camp but figured to be the next safety on the field regardless.
So that means some playing time is on the table. Sanders Commings is working much more now at safety than cornerback. Georgia also has Marc Deas and Connor Norman to turn to.
But Hamilton was also a prominent special teams contributor.
“I would think a young man like [freshman] Corey Moore would probably get a better opportunity to play on specials and he’s one step closer to the field as a safety also,” Richt said. “I would imagine that will light a fire under him a little bit.”
Williams’ flame is already burning hot.
“My name’s coming up because every day I’m just working to get better,” he said. “I try to make plays. That’s what I ask myself every time I step out on the field. What can I do to make a play?”
Crowell gets some work
Freshman tailback Isaiah Crowell was able to get in some limited work after missing four practices over the last six days due to a groin injury.
“He didn’t look full speed,” Richt said, “but he was healthy enough to get out there in a green jersey and run some plays.”
Originally Richt had predicted Crowell would return on Friday. Fellow tailback Richard Samuel, sidelined with a strained thigh muscle, won’t be back until “sometime next week.”
Practice update
Georgia held a two-hour special teams scrimmage at Sanford Stadium on Thursday. The workout was punctuated with 20 minutes of 11-on-11 work.
Richt said junior cornerback Branden Smith is currently running first team as the punt returner. Smith was the top returner last season with 10 for 143 yards. Behind him is record-setting kickoff return man Brandon Boykin and freshmen Malcolm Mitchell and Damian Swann are “battling” for the No. 3 spot.
Asked if Georgia would operate with two deep safeties/return men on kickoff return this season, Richt said, “that’s classified information.” Boykin is the school record holder with 1,813 career yards on kickoff returns and four touchdowns.
Narrowing it down
Heading into the last half of preseason camp, the Bulldogs are almost ready to set the depth chart and start determining playing rotation. Richt said he and the coaching staff sat down this week and went over every freshman to determine whether the assistants were slating them for the two-deep on offense or defense and whether or not they’d be available for special teams.
Off of those evaluations the Bulldogs next week will organize the scout team and begin earnest preparation for the opener against Boise State. Richt wasn’t prepared to unveil any of those decisions.
“There’s some guys we’re pretty sure, there’s some guys we’re not sure and there’s some guys that probably won’t,” he said. “I don’t know if I’m ready to give all that out because that usually causes players and moms and dads to maybe be happy or sad or whatever. I’m not ready for that today.”
Etc. . . .
Sophomore defensive end Derrick Lott, who had a deep cut on his right leg from a scooter accident late this summer, is now practicing without limitations. He backs up DeAngelo Tyson at right defensive end. . . . Georgia has now completed 15 of 29 preseason practices. Number 16 will be a full-contact practice Friday at 4:30 p.m. . . . Picture Day is Saturday at 1 p.m. at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs are expected to unveil the Nike Pro Combat uniforms they’ll wear in the Sept. 3 opener.

All i want to see is the defense stepping up and hittin some folks this year. I got so sick of passive defense last year. I am lookin forward to seeing Murray with one season under his belt, now hes had a spring and summer workin with an offense that didnt completely revolve around one guy. I like what I am hearing so far but it all means nothing til September 3,lookin forward to it. GO DAWGS!

I have one problem with CMR and his comments this pre-season. For a man who claims to be so fired up, his unwillingness to divulge who is working their tail off as opposed to who isn’t, is the biggest difference between him and coaches like CPJ, Saban, Muschamp, Meyer (at one time), and the rest of the SEC coaches. These are kids, mostly. Mom and Dad need to know whether their son is giving a good effort or is whining. Since he doesn’t light any fires, then maybe they can…lol. This is football, not golf. There is no need to be so cordial about it. I respect the fact he doesn’t want to embarrass players publicly and all that, but this 2011 man, come off it. Everyone cannot be a winner. You can’t have winners if you don’t have losers. Tony Dungy may be the nicest coach to ever win anything, but in reality, he was lucky. He had Peyton Manning vs Rex Grossman…lol. The “Georgia Way” should not include saving face.

I read where the Boise fans think their O and D lines will dominate us as well…….I see a lot of confidence here in our lines (depth being the only issue). Will definitely be interested to see what happens. I really hope our backs can do the job. I dont think there is going to be much time to get to Moore, and those guys are gonna have to come up big. Hopefully with some devastating hits right outta the box.
Really need the offense to show up in these first two games. We are gonna need 27 at the least in each game. Hope the running backs are in good condition. I cant wait…I have no idea what to expect. I would be pleasantly surprised if we won the first two. I would not be shocked if we lost hem both. I just hope that these guys play with purpose and with heart. I feel that has been lacking in the past. Love the Dawgs…want to see them return to their old form…hopefully in 2 weeks!

Boise State is in a no lose situation. Even if they lose to us all they have to do is get by Nevada and TCU and they will end up 11-1 ,a BCS game and in the top 8. The only way they wouldn’t end up in the top 8 with only one loss is if we dominate them and beat them like a rented mule which probably want happen since they have one of the best Quarterback’s in America this year.

If you an’t pay them a minimum of $100,000, your issue and whatever “great ideas” you have will be largely ignored. The people, not the “leadership”, need to get together and hammer these issues out and stick them up Congress’ rear, be it Rep or Dem controlled. Let’s not let the actions of 536 liars make the other 320 million attack each other. That’s what their doing to us now. Together we must stand but divided we will fall.

There is no way this team will win the national title
I’m just wanting to see if there is a different style of play on offense in particular. I’m confident the defense is going to hold its own. With a new OL coach and a better defense, I would be looking to eat clock knowing our defense is most likely going to be ebtter than a year ago on 3rd down stops.
Anyone but a troll will admit we weren’t that far away a year ago from winning 3 or 4 more games. Auburn was the only blowout.

I am a Republican, but I despise what Boehner and the rest of the Republicans allowed to happen with this poor exceuse of a bill and give the spend happy people everything they wanted. Higher debt limit, which will double the debt in 4 years, $2.4 trillion more to spend and what will be the end result of an increase in tax funds which will only allow them to spend more, not help offset the shortage of funds, and no plans to pay off the debt.

6-7 does not bother me. 8-5, 8-4, 10-3, does not bother me. But the way we have been losing bothers me. Whether or not you like it, CMR has done less with more.Period. If he can’t muster up the intensity and commitment to win it all at least once, fine. Not all good or great coaches win NC. But the finesse style of play since the CMR era began has caught up to this program. When they get smacked in the mouth, too many times I have seen this team wilt. Remember the LSU loss in Athens? Forget the penalty, some slow a#$ RB ran straight up the middle for a score, like he was Reggie Bush or something. Last year, Trey Burton, another average speed option QB, right up the middle for a score. Penalties after good plays, fumbles, etc. It’s not the losing. It’s losing with no dignity or pride that bothers me the most.

Your one liners are pretty good and as a UGA guy you seem to not take any of this personally which is a good thing, especially when UGA beats its 2nd consecutive Top10 team to begin the season at 2-0 and vault into the Top 10 themselves.

@Destin Dawg McGarity is NOT a huge improvement over Damon Evans. If anything, he will be virtually the same. The only thing different is his scheduling strategy. Evans made one huge mistake: Basking in the glow of his own success. When all the haters and old timers were against his promotion, he only raised the bar. Nothing that is happening as far as athletics at UGA would be happening now if not for Evans. All McGarity has to do is turn on the machine and not screw it up. The machine was already built. Clinton got head in the Oval Office and he was still allowed to run the country….hahahhaa. Evans was too drunk to make it back to the hotel…lol

You are crazy if you think GM is not a step up from Damon Evans. Evans was too busy tootin his own horn he forgot to help his football coach with all the non-football related issues. CMR was trying to do Everything for the football program. All he needs to do is coach and recruit. McGarity has let him do that. Look at the changes GM has made that has allowed Richt to focus on coaching.

Damon Evans had one terrible night as AD. Before that night he had worked his tail off re-establishing UGA as a national brand. GM has yet to establish a identity even for himself let alone one for UGA. Being embarassed for UGA and disassociating yourself from Evans is one thing but to not look back at his tenure and understand the positive things he did, outside of one night, is very short sighted.

6-7 seasons will make any AD listen to his coach. McG came in with a fresh set of eyes and CMR had a clean slate with him. CMR didn’t even realize the problems himself until he found out that his Asst. Coaches were undercoaching and underdeveloping the players. In other words, not doing it the “Georgia Way.” I believe wholeheartedly Evans would have listened and done the same things if CMR laid out the same case. NO ONE was complaining until he was caught with that young lady. Honestly, what hard work does McG really have to do? All the expansion plans were in place. Please point to something else that will make him BETTER than Evans in one year alone besides taking the PRESSURE off of the coach?…hahhaha. $3 mil a year and he needs a softer schedule and less pressure to manage the program? Slydog, you have no idea what your talking about. Damon Evans, as much as you say was great for UGA, he was actually a detriment for the football program. Richt asked him numerous times for nutrionist to be added to the staff, Damon Evans said no. Also the indoor facility. Richt wanted a larger more elaborate facility (the money was there), Damon Evans had one built but it was not what Richt was hoping for. Evans would not have fired Mark Richt. Having been in and around the UGA Athletic Association, Evans really wasn’t calling ALL the shots.

This program has the money and a commitment to CMR that after winning two SEC Titles and appearing in 3 BCS games that if CMR went to Evans and said, “Look the next thing we need to continue to keep up with the trends of our conference and the rest of college football is a nutritionist.” He would NEVER have been told no.

D wins it in the SEC
August 19th, 2011
10:11 am
If UGA can tighten up their overall D and slow down SC’s running game, then UGA ought to win 4 or 5 more games, with the schedule and all. Last year’s SC game was dead even except for Lattimore’s constant jaunts off tackle. Ealey also fumbled on the SC 2 yd line. Murray overthrew his wide open receivers about four times resulting in blown TDs on the fly in that game.
This year, Lattimore off tackle stuff will be slowed down, because last year UGA had NO ONE in the middle to handle anybody but in 2011 they have 335 lb Gathers and John Jenkins 340Lbs. and there is another young man also over 320 lbs for the middle.
The two former middle men of DeAngelo Tyson and Abry Jones ( both bigger and stronger) will anchor the D Ends and will be backed up by some quality depth …………..unlike last year. LBs and Corners, Safeties should be set, although depth at LB is very thin.
UGA to move the ball on O will have to go outside with special formations and take advantage of their speed at skill positions vs. pounding the ball up the middle. They need to use TWO FBs to block or receive AM’s short flare passes. These two GIANT FBs are Jay Rome and Figgins, both around 6′6″ and 270 lbs. These guys could be utilized in any number of ways to block for Murray or by sweeping Murray or Brandon Smith or Crowell or by running I. Crowell behind Samuel and the two FBs, just to create a crease.
IF UGA uses Carlton Thomas up the middle on 3rd and 7, forget it. THIS YEAR, UGA must get creative on O to win, otherwise, some 5-7 or 8-4 thing will develop and we alumni are done with all of that.

Continue to lose to FL = lost recruits because we continue to lose to the same team, which means other coaches use that against UGA to recruit them to their school. Why go to UGA when your not going to compete for SEC championships unless FL loses out
Embarrassing the program by multiple player arrests: Yea sit there and say nothing for the last 5 yrs and let UGA lead the nation in total arrests by its football team. Say nothing at all right yet let a program continue to be on the news and be an embarrassment
Ranking #2 in recruiting the last decade behind USC trojans and yet we cannot even play for an SEC championship unless FL losses out

Boise State article -
The focal point throughout the offseason, at least for those who follow the program, has been the opener against Georgia. The Broncos haven’t beaten a Southeastern Conference team yet — one of the few remaining holes in their resume.
Georgia is gearing up for that game, too. The Bulldogs finished 6-7 last year, and coach Mark Richt says he took on the challenge of facing the Broncos to re-energize his program.
Boise State coach Chris Petersen doesn’t like the sound of that.
“He’s in a good spot, and I think he knows it — from a coaching standpoint,” Petersen said of Richt. “They’ve got a huge chip on their shoulder, they’ve got good players, they’ve got good coaches, they’re very motivated. … This will be as tough a team as we’ve played since I’ve been at Boise State.”

Good to see the young man so optimistic going into this critical season…now if he can be just as optimistic following the 9/3 and 9/10 games, we’ll really have something to look forward to.
As for the report that the Boise fans, and I expect team, are actually thinking about ‘dominating’ Georgia, that may be the best news I’ve had lately. Whatever success BS has enjoyed against teams other than the Sisters of the Poor, has been as an underdog and catching said teams under-prepared and over-confident. Watch out Wranglers, or Cowboys, or Mustangs, or Broncos, or Buckaroos or whatever your nickname is (really can’t think of it because I really don’t care), cause we don’t think all that much for rodeo stuff around here and, as they say, if you’ve seen one you’ve seen ‘em all.
Tell us BSers, what will you have to look forward to for the 2011 season after you get your a$$es handed to you in The (Georgia) Dome September 3rd?

Nothing could be finer, I have a questions for you. I went back and watched the UGA, SC game from last year. I had forgot about the UGA challenge on a 3rd and long where one of SC’s receivers caught the pass about 2 yards short and was tackled at that spot and the ref’s gave him the first down. UGA challenged the call and the annoucers both agreed he was short but the replay offical said he got the first down. If you do not remember that play I suggest you go back and watch. He was clearly short. Also, outside of Lattimore, rushing for a lot of yards I wouldn’t say you guys dominated. UGA had chances just blew them.

Yes I remember Ray Goof and Jim Dummy. Goof was allowed to coach to long because he kept beating TECH like Richt and Donnan was arrogant and in over his head but he was let go because he lost to TECH
So Richt gets an extension if he wins 10 wins, wow no wonder why FL and AL fans laugh
So UGA ranking 2nd in recruiting the last decade means 10 wins is a good enough place to be
So UGA ranking 4th since 1999 ahead of FL and AL means 10 wins is good enough
So UGA ranking 2nd in recruiting 4th in putting players in the NFL means its ok to lose to FL every year and having 2 SEC championships that we were allowed to play for only because FL lost out those years is good enough right
13-12 in the SEC east since 2005
3-9 vs top 10 teams
losing to Miss St 1st time since 1976, KY twice and Vandy since 2005, while having top recruiting classes thats good enough right
I guess as long as we beat TECH and have 10 wins thats good enough
Thats loser thinking with the talent and money that UGA has. Your the problem, how about you getting off the train and go pull for schools like Vandy and TECH who love mediocrity.
Your the reason why we watch FL play almost every year or other schools for the SEC championship, you love 10 win seasons and you feel good about yourself when you beat Div II Georgia Tech.

I think that MR’s reluctance to talk more openly about anything is due mostly to the fact thta the media and a lot of fans continue to critcize him so much, that he probably figures, “less is more”, when it comes to interviews. I would bet if he had a choice, you would see assitants doing those media interviews and he would just concentrate at the job ahead of him.
It also is better to keep some of the other teams guessing , rather than tell them too much.

I have been going to Sanford Stadium longer than most folks on these blogs have been alive.
I remember 1980-1983. It was golden
I remember 1984-1988. It was mediocre. I almost burned up in Williams Brice in 1988 watching Carolina beat us. Joe Morrison RIP
I remember 1989-1995 when we had no prayer of beating Tennessee or florida. I amused myself by going to Sanford and watching us play UT with the hope that we would win knowing deep down we had ZERO chance.
I remember 1996- 2000 when we were mediocre. “i have been waiting all my life to coach a team like this.” 2000 SC game PHHHTTTTT!!
I remember 2001-2005 when coach Richt actuall had me hopeful we could become a national power. And we did. We beat Tennessee. The only thing we couldn’t overcome was Florida.
I remember 2006-2010 when we were mediocre except for 2007 when we honestly could have beaten anyone by year end.
Our history is not all that great Mr Flat Tire. Richt raised the bar above anything in my 53 years of life.

This yrs schedule is too easy, let this year and next year be the judge
And no I dont expect a National Title every year moron
The only thing I expect is better outcomes than losing to FL every year, a lousy record against ranked teams, multiple player arrests every year, losing to teams you shouldnt lose to like Vandy, 13-12 the last 5 yrs in the SEC east
All while ranking 2nd, yes 2nd, going to say it again, 2nd in recruiting the last decade and having more players go into the NFL than 97% of most schools

“except for Lattimore’s constant jaunts off tackle. Ealey also fumbled on the SC 2 yd line. Murray overthrew his wide open receivers about four times resulting in blown TDs on the fly in that game.”
So once again we have the always present UGA beat itself not the other team which I suspect we will be hearing again this year!
Look dude in watching that game…those jaunts by Lattimore were there because Spurrier knew that was the ONLY thing that he had to do to beat UGA on that day.
It is silly the way people keep spouting off about a 3rd quarter fumble as if SC would have simply quit playing the rest of the game? And if I remember correctly, that fumble would not even give UGA the lead but just got them within striking distance. And finally got news for ya….every game comes down to missed passes, blocks and tackles. I am sure that SC fans think they missed a several TDs also, each groups only remembers the ones for their team.
It is going to be an uphill battle against that team whose most talented highly rated players are a year older and more experienced as well as seeming to be much more confident than when UGA played them last season.
A question to consider will be is how much will UGA players understanding of their own defense vs. the ability of Spurrier and other coordinators ability to now gameplan against a known quality offset each other? That is one facit of the upcoming season which has been overlooked in “the well the defense will now be much better because of its the second year”. The opponents now have a full year worth of data on Grantham to understand his tendencies and schemes. Last year he was an unknown.

I usually don’t question anyone on these blogs for their comments, but if you’ll permit me, I’d like to make a comment and ask you a question:
No UGA fan is happy with our win / lose record these past several years.
Most of us true Dawg fans are just hopefully optimistic that sufficient changes have been made and the ship has been righted, and we have a new team that will play well and focused for four complete quarters, not give up, and play the best they can.
I can take a loss if they do that and our opponent wins the game, and we just don’t lose it because of last of focus, game planning, and team effort.
Can you just tell us exactly what you want and hope for Coach Richt and UGA this year? I just don’t understand.
Not demeaning you and your posts at all; I just would like to know what you want from our coaches and team this year.

Some people are convinced that Richt is the answer, win or lose, some admit he’s fallen but he’s earned the opportunity to correct it. Fact is that is where we are, best thing you can do is accept that, hope they are right, and for now, try and enjoy the product.

@LogicalUS last years USCe game was NOT a matter of the genius of the Visor, our D was in position to make plays all day..on a couple of plays we hit Lattimore before he got to the line and he still got 5-8 yards a pop. Please stop talking about Obama. They ALL are bad news. Does anybody think Geroge Bush IV (Rick Perry), is going to be better? He is a more articulate Bush and backed by just as many oil and energy interests. If you think gas and your light bill is high now, then vote him in by all means.

This is the last time I will comment to Flat Tire.
I pull for the team (the guys on the field), which is why I keep all my negative thoughts to myself and not in a public forum. I always have pulled for my beloved Georgia Bulldogs. I bleed Red & Black. I am bulldog born and bulldog bred. When I’m 6 feet under, I’ll be bulldawg dead. If THE DAWGS don’t play hard and don’t win a lot of games this year, Richt wil be fired. I’m okay with that. IT WON’T HAPPEN THOUGH! I will support my coach BECAUSE HE IS THE COACH IN 2011. This team is hungry. And who gives a flying you know what “other people” say about OUR coach?
Reading your comments make me mad at myself that I wasted this much time on you. No, I did not vote for Obama. I did vote, however. You? I didn’t think so.

Only you and no one outside of you, can bring that change my friend. That’s why we have “leaders”, the human race was too lazy to lead themselves. No matter who sits in that office, we are forced to play by the rules of the game, until we can break free, create our game, and make up our own rules.

VanGorder left because Adams and Evans wouldn’t pay him $350,000 per year.

We are free but until people do what it takes and that is vote for the betterment of the country and not be enthralled with one person or one party like Little Tobias Flunk is with coach Richt the country as the team suffers unless people demand better results
To do that people have to be voted out not voted in just because they represent their favorite party

First Richt wanted Martinez as his coach. Little does anyone know but it was Irk Russel who told Richt to hire VanGorder and not Martinez
VanGorder left because slick Willie Martinez went behind Van Gorders back during a few games. VanGorder went to Richt and told him this is my defense or Willies, Im tired of him going behind me
Richt took Willies side and VanGorder told him where to go. Go back and re-watch those games. You will see them arguing on the sidelines at times.
The $350,000 crap is P.R. stuff for mental midgets like you to drink more of the kool-aid
Everyone on here thinks Kirby Smart didnt want to come but he did, he told Richt to fire Van Halenger, Richt said no Kirby didnt come
I happen to know someone on the inside of this program.
Richt has refused to make the hard decisions and thats why this team will only be a 9 or 10 win season in my opinion but we will see

Nor did he have any affiliation with UGA since 1981. Where do you get this stuff? Richt couldn’t hire Martinez in 2000, but could hire him in 2004 while the same “Irk” was still alive? Really? Keep on digging.

Is that what you said, they haven’t gone down in a while? Or did you say electing Perry would raise them substantially? I’m just asking, why would that happen.
The last time we had a Texas as President who was as you say in bed with big oil, they were down, as a matter of fact. Which I am not making a point about because it’s all global and not presidential, but since you did ask a question that directly conflicts with your premise……

Anyone who talked to Erk Russell (God bless) would know that he was a an avid UGA supporter well after he left the program in 1981. In fact, in GSU’s inaugural game against UGA in 1992, Erk walked onto the field and brandished a black UGA practice shirt to the Georgia crowd (to many, many enthusiastic cheers). He then pulled off that shirt and showed an old threadbare grey shirt with only four letters on it to the GSU sideline. “GATA”. This was meant to motivate his Eagles, but was also welcomed by the Georgia sidelines, as this Erkism was invented at the University of Georgia when he saw a Georgia Tech Athletic Association sign at a North Avenue A$$whipping. Erk was one of the few true men of character left in college football when he died in ‘06. He still had regular talks with Georgia faculty members and especially Dooley. Had it not been for Dooley’s decision to turn down an offer from Auburn in ‘88, Erk probably would have negated the whole Ray Goof fiasco by suceeding Dooley. Erk was a FANATIC GSU supporter, b/c the fans loved him so much for, essentially, creating their now storied college football program. But don’t let his dogmatism for GSU cloud the fact that he was still a Dawgmatic till the day he died. I for one am apt to believe that he did indeed guide Richt on his VanGorder hire, especially since he vouched for VanGorder to take the HC position at GSU (even though he proved to be abyssmal as a HC at the Div-IAA level). Just some history for the Dawgpound lovers here.

Every team loses players see BC losing top rusher in ACC; GT losing a key player this week; Another GT player out for career with Brain disease; the list goes on for every single team nationally. Point is if Richt can’t win because a couple of players say (5 during the season lost for extended games) then he simply is underperforming yet again. Other teams overcome such injuries unless it is the QB so why can’t we??? Sick and tired of the excuses. GATA or see the coach out the door so we can get some new blood to instill some vigor into our program!

Sorry UGAmutt but GATA goes back over 60 years and was not invented within the state of Georgia. Teams across the nation have, and will continue to use this acronym simply because it catches the fancy of young men. I personally learned this in high school football in South Carolina back in the late 1950’s and can’t belive my high school invented it especially since our main rivals also utilized it. Maybe Russell coached the rivals…was he ever a High school coach in SC? Otherwise he simply borrowed it like everyone else and used it to motivate his team and fans the same way my coaches did. I attended UGA in the 60’s and believe it was used even then. Maybe we ought to ask Coach Dooley to see if he can tell us but likely need to ask some players that played pre-Dooley to see when it arrived at UGA. All I know is that it was used long before Russell led the silver britches onto the field but maybe and I mean maybe, he was the first to use it at UGA.

I love the new attitude in this program. I hope it pays off on the field. MR is our man. He did let the program slip a lil bit. I think the new AD has help MR get back to being a coach. We have to get a better schedule. I would like to see atleast 1 or 2 warm up games.

Most of the time, these guys aren’t even being ethical anymore. What ever happened to, “I’ll take my boys, train ‘em, starve ‘em for blood, poke ‘em with a motivational stick and tell ‘em that your boys are after their girls and see who whips who”? Now it’s all about who has the advanced recruiting edge, who has the better facilities, who has the money to come from a bagman booster, who can offer me everything I’ve ever dreamed of. You’re 18-22 years old, and playing for the best damn team with silver britches ever to lace up. Worry about that money and fame when you’ve made enough accolades for yourselves to hit the pros. In the meantime, remember that teamwork, education, integrity, morales, and hardwork are the rewards that you’ll reap developing in CMR’s program. When that point is driven home, THEN the Championships will fall like mana from the spirit or Erk Russell’s bleeding dome.
