***UPDATED***
ATHENS — Georgia freshman tailback Isaiah Crowell is battling a groin injury that severely limited his participation in Friday’s practice, the Bulldogs’ 10th of preseason camp.
However, both Crowell and UGA head coach Mark Richt insist that the injury is not serious and should not significantly hamper Crowell’s preparation for the No. 22-ranked Bulldogs’ season opener against No. 7 Boise State in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game at the Georgia Dome in three weeks.
“It’s not really that serious,” said Crowell, speaking to reporters Friday for the first time since arriving at UGA. “It was just weak or whatever, but it’s not serious.”
Crowell was not dressed in a green jersey, which signifies an injured player. However, he moved slowly and gingerly through the Bulldogs’ drill work early in practice and actually stood to the side for several of them. Occasionally he would limp noticeably and his left thigh was heavily wrapped in an ace bandage underneath his pants. See THIS VIDEO posted by our friends at DawgTime.com,
“It’s a groin that’s bothering him,” Richt said. “We don’t think there was a pull. But if you get enough practices in a row and going live and all that stuff, sometimes you wake up in the morning and you just can’t go full speed. So that’s what happened with him. We shut him down today. It’ll be day-by-day. We’ll see how he feels.”
Given the Bulldogs’ precarious situation at tailback, any injury at that position could be perceived as cause for alarm. Redshirt freshman Ken “Boo” Malcome, who was already hampered with a groin injury, did not attend Friday’s practice because “he’s not feeling too good,” Richt said. Richt was not specific other than to say it was “not a concussion.”
Meanwhile, former walkon tailback Brandon Harton — he was just awarded a scholarship Thursday night — just returned from a real concussion and remained in green on Friday. That left the Bulldogs with recently-converted tailback Richard Samuel and Carlton Thomas, who is suspended for the opening game.
For what it’s worth, Thomas had “a really nice day of competition” and Samuel had the run of the day in Friday’s full-contact workout.
“It was the first play of [teamwork] and he ran over a cornerback and kept on trucking for about another 30 yards or so,” Richt said. “That was a big run for him.”
Later it was learned that Samuel suffered a strained quad during the practice and he, too, is listed as “day-to-day.”
Meanwhile, the buzz of the day Friday was it was the first opportunity for reporters to interview Crowell since he’s been on UGA’s campus. As was consistent of his personality throughout recruiting, Crowell was a man of few words but also of quiet confidence. He actually addressed the fact that he’s not one ramble on with his answers.
“I don’t like speaking but I know I have to,” he said while sitting on a stool in a scrum of reporters and TV cameras.
Some of the “highlights” from Crowell’s 15-minutes session with the media:

Crowel doesn’t block for himself and neither will the wannabees on the UGA O-line. Typical UGA fans. All they can do is revel in their glory of 31 years ago. Lordy people, you ain’t that great.

Does Boise really think they can win? They will be competitive and maybe have it close or a lead in first half. But they can not hold up after 3rd qtr. If this were the last game of the year they would fare better..but the first game against UGA?? Paaaaahleeeeez. More speed, depth than they have ever seen….the adrenalin runs out in the 4th qtr and the DAWGS embarrass them and show the football world BSU is waaaay over rated….sucks to be them

It does not matter how hurt Crowell is, with or without him georgia starts 0-2, gets humiliated by Florida, and ends the year without enough wins to qualify for a bowl. Sad times for the dogs, sad times

I think the least of Georgia’s problems are on the defenive side of the ball. Big questions at WR, OL depth, and at running back…including depth. Georgia cannot afford to lose Crowell at anytime during the season, even if he is an unproven player just out of HS….and Georgia has had a lot of HS super star RBs who flamed out quickly….and recently. He may be the second coming of Walker….just like Samuel, King, and Ealey were at one time or another…but he needs to prove it against Boise and SC….just like Walker did against the Vols back in the 80’s.

They are angry that Bleymaier agreed to have his team travel cross-country to play a cupcake while everyone else watches Oregon-LSU.

Did you watch Boise play against Va. Tech last year? First game….and they dominated Va. Tech in the fourth quarter. Boise is a highly conditioned team….and well coached…….and very experienced. There is a reason they are ranked 5th in the nation. Georgia better bring their A plus game to the Dome….and be ready to play. Boise has a great system….and some really good players on both sides of the ball. The only quesiton they have is at WR. Can they replace the two studs from last year….the ones that gave Va. Tech fits. They retuned much of their defense….and it was very good.

I agree. There is a lot of pressure on Crowell, just like Lattimore last year against Southern Miss and Georgia behind what people were calling a very suspect offensive line.
While he and his offensive line exceeded expectations, we found out later that neither Southern Miss or Georgia were any good.
Boise State and South Carolina have very solid teams and if Crowell recovers, we will find out very early if he and his offensive line can handle the pressure.

Sorry that Crowell is hurt. I don`t like for any player to be hurt regardless of that team he plays for.
I was glad to read Crowell`s answer to the question about his goals. He said to help his team as much as he can. A far cry from what he said at signing day. At that time he said his goals were to gain 1000 yards and be an All-American as a freshman.

Why would grown UF, USC, and Tech fans spend countless–I mean countless–hours posting negative information on an anonymous AJC, Georgia football fan blog? Either nuts or bitter impersonators with some sort of an axe to grind? Ask yourself if you would live on a UF or Boise State blog and bad mouth every interview, every fumble in a scrimmage, every muscle pull? They aren’t right in the head! To be fair some of them like football and discuss it like normal people, but most of them appear to be missing a bolt or two…come to think of it some of our fans seem to be missing some, too! Boise is quick and fast defensively, yet lacks size….and very well coached!!! Wonder if Bobo knows how to gameplan for that!! Veteran QB play…and plenty of speed skill players. Richt…pound the ball…play physical defensively….dawgs win! If we come out with a inconsistent offensive gameplan…dawgs lose!

chdawg, that’s an easy answer…georgia tech fans have absolutely nothing to be happy about when it comes to college football. Their happiness has to be artificially inserted by getting on here and saying anything negative to get a rise out of getting under a Georgia’s fan skin. South Carolina fans are the funny ones that come in here to me. Georgia has absolutely owned them and I think they come in here and try to get attention because they have never been their before and they believe they are fixing to be a great program for years to come. It’s really funny to watch. The Florida fans just want us to submit to them and be a weak fan base and we dont so they continue to hammer the 18-3. fact like they beat us 60-0 every year. But even though yall have recently dominated us in the series I always seem to smell the fear of losing to us. Better hope Muschamp is the answer because a Ray Goff can turn the series back in our favor like he did at uga for florida in the 90S

My thoughts: Interesting matchup! One of the best in recent memory, in fact. The Ducks and Cajuns will be a great one, too. Tivo time, though. BSU–Heisman finalist, great running back, small and quick team, very well coached, and really wants to beat UGA to make a statement. Vs. a UGA team coming off of their worst year in CMR’s career here. Watching Richt trying to rebuild is interesting. A couple of points: BSU didn’t crush VT and VT did start very slow last year, losing to James Madison by a larger margin than BSU in the next game. They did get much better in the second half of the season. Some of the pundits are going on endlessly about the talent Boise brings back, but I personally think they lost a lot. We’ll see. UGA appears better on D than last year, and they should be at least the same as last year on O, imho. One thing that could go in UGA’s favor–if our D is tough, our special teams may make the difference in the game. If Moore is able to lacerate CTG’s secondary, then it is either a shootout or a blowout, depending on how well our O does. Like BDD, I expect Coach Bobo to go with his standard game plan that he is known so well for–pound the rock and use play action to keep BSU honest and score some big plays. The big unknowns are how well the O line blocks BSU’s small but very highly rated front 7, how well our backs block and run. If we have the old UGA running game back, the Dawgs will be hard to beat. I don’t agree that Murray can’t shoot it out with opposing teams. I think he excels at gunfights. I don’t know how well this year’s receivers will get open. The depth there should make for an awesome corps, but I have yet to see them do great without AJ. I liked what T King said the other day. He wasn’t happy with mediocrity, and he realizes the Dawgs are going to have to do much better to shake things up. This is the most interesting start to a season in recent memory.

Moleman,
This probably describes you pretty well, especially the blind part.
Moles are the majority of the members of the mammal family Talpidae in the order Soricomorpha. Although moles burrow, some species are semi-aquatic. Moles have cylindrical bodies covered in fur while the ears are generally not visible. They have small or covered eyes and can probably still tell night from day, although they are otherwise blind.
Ears covered in fur and darn near blind. I would say that describes you pretty well.

If Georgia doesn’t win the LEast division of the SEC this year, They have no-one to blame but themselves. They have the easiest schedule I have ever seen for a SEC Team. Put Georgia in the SEC West and no-one would even mention them. MS. State will help Georgia because they are going to put a beat down on South Carolina when they visit Starkville. Spurrier cannot win in the state of Mississippi.
