What do you want to know as Georgia Bulldogs open camp today?

Athens — Georgia is holding its annual preseason “Media Day” later today. After lunch in the new multipurpose facility at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, we’ll get a 30-minute, question-and-answer session with head coach Mark Richt followed by a session with selected players.

Actually, us media types don’t get to select the players. We don’t know just yet which players will be made available to us. But we do know none of them will be true freshmen. They’re off limits for interviews until August 11th.

You can expect the usual team leaders to be in attendance. Just guessing here but I suspect guys like quarterback Aaron Murray, linebacker Christian Robinson, center Ben Jones, defensive back Brandon Boykin, wide receiver Tavarres King, tight end Orson Charles and tackle Cordy Glenn will be there. Doubtful big John Jenkins will be available but it’d be nice if he was.

Anyway, I need your help. I’m looking for some feedback. There are a lot of obvious storylines heading into the 2011 season and we’ll definitely get to all of those. But I’d like to hear what are some of the other subjects you’d like me to cover.  Is there a particular player you’d like learn more about or a specific question you’d like me to ask Richt or a certain player or one of the assistants? Is there something you’ve always been curious about but was never sure who to ask? What would you ask if you were in attendance?

Well, now’s your chance. Let me know and, if it’s a reasonable request, I’ll try my best to get an answer for you.

After today’s media session, Georgia will conduct it’s first of 29 preseason practices. It’s supposed to start around 4:30 p.m. Last time I checked the heat index is supposed to be around 107 degrees then. So I know one of my questions is going to be what kind of special precautions are they making for the extreme heat.

But that’s just me. What would you ask?

What is the status of Dallas Lee? I know he’s improving, but what is the actual problem? Does he have asthma? If so, that sounds like another lost lineman. If not, is he fully recovered from whatever he had? Thanks.

Coach Joe T. has the S&C program in a bad place I have read. Long distance running and high rep lifting is the wrong direction.

He needs to be teaching them boys speed and interval running so as to traing their bodies for quick, intense speed then stopping. Long distance running won’t do that. It’ll slow them down.

Also, he needs the guys doing heavy, shorter reps.

They’ll look good getting off the bus, but this old school way of S&C is going to be terrible.

Questions I have…

1)Who will be the running back thast gets the most carries ? Crowell,Malcome,or Thomas ?

2)Who are the two top WR ? King & Wooten ?

3)Mr. Richt, how many victories do you think UGA will have this year ? Your realistic goal ?

4)If Mike Bobo calls vanilla plays that don’t work will you take over as OC ?

5)Are you putting 100% into UGA football or 75% and 25% into missions,etc. ?

Chip,
Anything going on with special teams? This should be a great year if the coaches play it right. Butler, Walsh and Boykin are all seniors and some of the best in the country, how about the rest of the gang?

Is Turene on campus? If I recall correctly, he is around 6′2″ and weighs around 235. Also he supposedly is an athlete and a ” LB project” and with time “could develop” as a very solid SEC LB.

My question is:

Could he also play running back? He did so in HS. Just a thought.

Thanks Chip for giving us this opportunity. I wonder is Bobo might let you know if we intend to run a little more spread offense to take the pressure off of our situation at running back instead of the pro offense we have ran in the past. thanks again

Arguably, the State of Georgia produces some of the best high school players in the country and UGA gets their pick, most of the time; however, why is it that when they get to Athens, something happens to them and most never realize the potential that was expected of them? Were they really that good or is it the coaching? I think it’s probably 50/50……

One more question after reading above question.

Why are the top players in Georgia recently committing to other schools like Tech,Bama,SC,Auburn, etc. ? Every day we read about another top Georgia prospect committing to a rival school.

As a UGA and GSU alum, I am calling all dawgs to come support your little brother GSU at the dome on Friday the 2nd as a warmup for our game against Boise. I will be at both and really look forward to both teams doing well this year. The GSU game is going to be great and I promise you will be very impressed with what coach Curry has put together down there.

Each year in this league (maybe not in the ACC) a coach as to have an inventory of beefy, mean, nasty O linemen for depth in order to win. Period.

CMR has since he arrived taken the approach of going after the BIG guys that are highly regarded, regardless of where they reside. This was a huge mistake. North Carolina, South Floirda and Alabama and Tennessee and any state if a guy is highly regarded. State of Georiga puts out plenty of them but we overlooked them in huge numbers for a Jean Giles type of kid or Sturdivant. Now? Gulp.

This shot gun approach will hurt us this year and that is very unfortunate, THIS YEAR we must win. W.O. BIG Beefy, NASTY linemen, UGA is going to struggle and in the end that is CMR’ fault.

Yes, we signed a few OL that left but again …………………. that IS the head man’s fault. His numbers were always too thin and UGA alumni know this one fact has been 60% of our problems. No solid linemen in qty. in about 4 years. Recruiting skill guys and T.E.s does not sustain long drives …………………….BIG UNS do that.

This year will showcase this fault.

Gooooooooooooooo Dogs.

1. Grantham, How big of a difference will John Jenkins and the emergence of Kwame Geathers make on the overall improvement and play of your defense?

2. On paper it seems like we have the personnell to play man coverage alot, allowing us to really commit to stopping the run and getting hits on the QB. How do you see it shaping up?

3. Bobo,Rict – Our Offensive personnell looks set up for a power running game with a 260 lb fullback and a 240lb tailback that’s style is downhill north and south running. How much have you, if any, modified your running plan since moving Samuel back to offense?

4. With all the reports of how fast Malcom Mitchell is, Is there anything other than an injury or stone hands that can keep him off the field?

For CMR, with lack of depth at OL it seems we should be more aggressive not only securing talent earlier in our own backyard(GA), but also pursuing more high end talent outside of our typical logistical focus. What can you tell us about the recruiting for 2012, as we seem to be trailing the other top programs with commitments at this point.

B Boykin, at 5-foot-10, is just too small to hang with the big boy wide receivers.

He’s better suited as a punt returner.

I would like to know if our O line has moved out wider in our initial stance than last year or the year before. The years that we had a decent running game was when our O-line was spread out a little more to help create more space and not log jam with all of the big guys up front. When you have too many people up close to each other its hard to create space if all that is needed is to push you in to your own guy. Also, we used to run a lot of misdirections and cut backs. Moreno made a living off of this. what about the two back proform to create misdirection and also what happened to hitting the TE’s over the middle and or quick slants to get the linebackers out of position to run down hill? The slants on the run and dig routes would be able to create space but Bobo has got to get Murray to hit the receivers in stride! Great teams hit their receievers in stride that also keeps the safeties back and the linebackers playing on their heals.

I want to know what percentage of the time when we do some trickeration or play action play on 1st down does it benefit us more than just running the ball on 1st down. Get back to the basics! Run the ball on 1st down…set up something else! I’m just tired of everytime we have the ball we are looking at 3rd and long! Get back to Georgia football!!! Run it down there throat!!!
