Athens — Georgia is holding its annual preseason “Media Day” later today. After lunch in the new multipurpose facility at Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall, we’ll get a 30-minute, question-and-answer session with head coach Mark Richt followed by a session with selected players.
Actually, us media types don’t get to select the players. We don’t know just yet which players will be made available to us. But we do know none of them will be true freshmen. They’re off limits for interviews until August 11th.
You can expect the usual team leaders to be in attendance. Just guessing here but I suspect guys like quarterback Aaron Murray, linebacker Christian Robinson, center Ben Jones, defensive back Brandon Boykin, wide receiver Tavarres King, tight end Orson Charles and tackle Cordy Glenn will be there. Doubtful big John Jenkins will be available but it’d be nice if he was.
Anyway, I need your help. I’m looking for some feedback. There are a lot of obvious storylines heading into the 2011 season and we’ll definitely get to all of those. But I’d like to hear what are some of the other subjects you’d like me to cover. Is there a particular player you’d like learn more about or a specific question you’d like me to ask Richt or a certain player or one of the assistants? Is there something you’ve always been curious about but was never sure who to ask? What would you ask if you were in attendance?
Well, now’s your chance. Let me know and, if it’s a reasonable request, I’ll try my best to get an answer for you.
After today’s media session, Georgia will conduct it’s first of 29 preseason practices. It’s supposed to start around 4:30 p.m. Last time I checked the heat index is supposed to be around 107 degrees then. So I know one of my questions is going to be what kind of special precautions are they making for the extreme heat.
But that’s just me. What would you ask?

Agree with Bad Brad- the number of posts is pretty disappointing. The AJC got a lot of flack from national writers for not uncovering the GT NCAA penalty until the day of the announcement. It us starting to look like that performance is not an exception. Let’s hope this changes.

1.) Will any players be considered for a move to the OL?
2.) When will the decision be made to redshirt one of the QB’s?
3.) When was Long’s mono 1st diagnosed and how long realistically before he can play again?
4.) All indications from the size of our 1st team line, RB’s and FB’s that we might put more emphasis on power running game. Comments?
5.) Related to Question #4-Coach Friend apparently teaches drive blocking as opposed to what Searles taught. Does that provide any insight on Question #4?
That should cover it.

Why don’t you ask him if any other players pee outside. Then you can have more to write about!

Connor Shaw had a nice practice last night as well. Many believe that he will get more PT regardless of how Garcia plays. Plus, its always reassuring to have a more than capable back-up at any position. Depth is key.

How is Marlon Brown progressing as a player and what do the coaches see his role being in the offense this year? I am confident in Tavarres King and Orson Charles and I know there has been a lot of talk about Malcolm Mitchell. However, Marlon has been in the system for three years now and would like to see him step in and help fill some of the stats that A.J. Green put up.

Chip,
Ask CMR, “Since this is Aaron Murray’s third year in your system, second as a starter, do you envision him throwing the ball more now with the attrition at running back?”

One problem Jadeveon Clowney had last night was that he played too fast.
Spurrier said he needs to slow down a little during practices.

I’d like to know more about the situation at Nose. Is CTG planning on starting Big John over Kwame (or vice versa) for depth’s sake or can we expect to see one of them playing here and there at end to get them both on the field?
Thanks, Chip! Go Dawgs!!

Having such a low number of scholarship players, should’t there be alot less redshirting, due to Richt maybe feeling a little pressure to turn
it around this year!

James T., although he did not say it in his blog, I believe Chip wanted questions asked in this, the real world, rather than the delusional world that you live in. How about beating us more than once in a decade before you start asking questions like that, huh?
As far as questions for CMR, I liked the one that topdog70 asked about the no-huddle. I seem to remember that UGA actually got penalized in his first season for being too quick using the no-huddle. I had never seen that before. Now that so many teams are using it, why not bring it back?

Chip, please ask if UGA will use the song ” Who let the dogs out” during games. IMHO, it would really get the crowd into it and be an intimidation factor for the visiting team. We need this to get Sanford rocking!

Ask him if he ever thought about loading all his plays into an computer or iphone app and having it offer Coach Bobo a random play that he can go with or veto? The app could be loaded up to take in some game and opponent information to favor toss out potential picks.

We have 5 better than clowney. Ray Drew will end up being a much better player than clowney too.
Clowney needs to worry about a 340 LB tackle, a 325 LB guard and a 270 LB fullback heading toward him on a toss sweep with a 240 LB running back carrying the ball.

Are we yet back to a position where we can win with stout, hard-nosed defense and a run-the-ball first mentality on offense? I refer to our best year under CMR, 2002, when we were 13-1, finished #2 or 3 in the nation, had Greene playing smart, Musa running the ball and a BVG defense that brought the hammer.

I have several questions.
To all available players:
Can you describe the Code Red that was given to Isreal Troupe for a. getting in trouble for something stupid and b. missing the court date?
To the Offense:
Is it disheartening when your coaches give up on a series? For example when Bobo calls that 3rd and a mile draw play that he has called 150 times in the last 2 seasons and hasn’t fooled the defense yet and you know he has given up on the series; how does that make you feel?
To everyone:
How ugly are the Nike Pro Combat Uniforms going to be on opening day? If Penn State, Alabama, and Ohio State never have to change their uniforms to get their players to play hard…why does UGA have to use this sad ploy?
Thanks!

The thing with Clowney is that he’ll always be fresh becuase there are currently two starters ahead of him.
That 340 lb tackle and 325 lb guard will be forced to play almost every down due to depth issues. Those dogs are gonna get tired. Not good when a fresh Clowney comes in on 3rd down. Murray best be on his toes.

now my real question… Why in this age of 3yrs and gone (a-lay) AJ Green, M. Stafford, Knowshaun, etc etc/ why are we not placing all our skilled players in the mix and letting them grow up fast as opposed to the RED-SHIRT/ we really need to think of red shirting as to kids that come in w/out SEC skills and not to TALENT….just my 2 cents////if DREW, MITCHELL, or CROWELL best option (bump them to starters and go)

LSU played with 83 scholarships last year, knowing they were about to be investigated by the NCAA and looking to stave off future penalties (which worked). Is that what is going on here?
