Apologies for the brief absence. I had the matter of a 20th wedding anniversary to attend to. Thanks for your patience. Now, back to football. . . .
Georgia lost another linebacker on Thursday. The Bulldogs announced that Brandon Burrows, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound redshirt freshman from Marietta, will undergo shoulder surgery Tuesday morning at St. Mary’s. The procedure is meant to repair what they’re calling “chronic instability” in Burrows’ right shoulder. As one might expect, surgery on a linebacker’s shoulder the day players report for camp rules out any chance to play this season. It is not, however, expected to be a career-ending injury for Burrows.

Burrows
Not to ring the panic bell or anything but the linebacker position is beginning to look perilously thin. By my count, Burrows’ loss means the Bulldogs are now down to six eligible and healthy scholarship lettermen for their four linebacker positions.
That, of course, is not counting sophomore Jarvis Jones, who is slated to start at strong-side outside linebacker. But Jones’ eligibility is in question due to his relationship with a Columbus parks and recreation administrator recently convicted of theft and fraud. A new report out of Columbus this week alleges there may be more issues raised.
So assuming Jones is not available at least for a game or two, that leaves Georgia with three experienced inside linebackers and three experienced outside linebacker. That’s not ideal.
Junior Christian Robinson is a team leader with All-SEC potential at the “Mike” inside linebacker position. Sophomore Alec Ogletree also has all-conference potential, but he has never played a snap at the “Mo” inside ‘backer spot. He was moved there after excelling as a freshman at strong safety. Junior Michael Gilliard backs up Robinson and Burrows was behind those two on the depth chart.
Georgia’s not any deeper out on the flanks. Without Jones in the lineup, redshirt sophomore Chase Vasser is the only letterman left at Sam. Sophomores Cornelius Washington and Reuben Faloughi (a former walkon) man the “Will,” or weak-side position. The availability of sophomore T.J. Stripling (knee) and Dexter Morant (shoulder) remains unclear. Junior Richard Samuel, who was working at both inside and outside linebacker, moved back to tailback recently to shore up depth problems there.
What’s all this mean? Chiefly that the Bulldogs’ are going to need significant contributions from freshman linebackers. Georgia signed five in February. Two of those are currently unavailable. Sterling Bailey is still recovering from surgery last spring and Kent Turene has yet to receive the blessing of the NCAA Eligibility Center for freshman eligibility.
That leaves five-star prospect Ray Drew of Thomasville to shore up depth at outside linebacker and four-star prospects Amarlo Herrera of College Park and Ramik Wilson of Tampa for the inside positions. After that at least nine walkons stand at the ready.
Robinson met with reporters on Wednesday and I asked him about the depth issues at his position.
“People think we have depth issues,” Robinson said. “I just think we need guys to step up. That’s at any position. We have enough guys here at Georgia to get it done. Richard’s going to step up and help us at the running back position and somebody’s going to step up at linebacker and make those plays. They may not have as many reps, but it’s a matter of guys realizing they have shoes to fill.”
In the meantime, the Bulldogs might want to bubblewrap their remaining linebackers when camp gets underway late next week.
So who do you expect to step up at linebacker for Georgia this fall?
GEORGIA’S LINEBACKERS
* Sophomore Jarvis Jones is expected to start once the NCAA addresses his eligibility issues.
** Turene has not yet been granted freshman eligibility by the NCAA.

All of this means that there are plenty of opportunities for these young guys to make a name for themselves. Thats why they go to play college ball. Hoping to get the opportunity to do something great. These guys were good enough to receive full rides from UGA…..they arent bad players. All of you people have some faith and hope Bobo gets better with the play calling. UGA’s attitude problem that we had the last cpl of years seems to have vanished. Thank goodness for Coach Joe T. He’s installing the old school mentality in these young players. Everybody needs to quit being so damn negative….and wait to see how we makeout in the first two games!!

Two sources independent of each other but both well connected to the growing Columbus mess are telling me that the Jones mess is getting worse. Also, I am being told that the UGA Athletic Department MUST BE VERY CAREFUL regarding this as well as a much more potentially damaging situation involving other Columbus athletes.
It appears that it would be in the best interest of UGA to cut all ties with Jones and possibly get out front of this by suspending at least one other football player pending the result of this growing mess.
UGA need look no further than tech or USC to see how NOT to handle this growing concern.

As someone who has been close, very close to this situation in other aspects, I can say you are very very correct Sir! The situation is tenable at best. There apparently are others involved who can the UGA connections look very unstable. Walk away from this situation and hopefully the other is unprovable and some folks learn their lessons.
You have to love our fans who first thing throw up the Auburn and Cam Newton situation. The Auburn deal will take care of itself. As a very prominent sports reporter just told me this past weekend. ” The three past recruiters of the year” all have been found guilty of violating NCAA rules and now have been issued ’show causes” and either are out of college football or are awaiting additional rulings. That being said, the Trooper Taylor at Auburn is on slow crock pot mode and it seems the NCAA is going to get Auburn and make it stink for other actions.
Lets take care of ourselves and leave the NCAA to lay the entire book on Auburn and their cronies for all their actions.

I’m sorry for Mr. Burrows and wish him the best. However…he was injured when we signed him (both knees), and this shoulder should have been fixed after last season, not the day before practice begins. From this report, I don’t think he’ll ever play at UGA, so give him a medical scholarship and let him earn a degree. While I admire Richt’s sense of responsibility and loyalty to a chronically injured player, I’m tired of him throwing away money and tying up an athletic scholarship.

Wow! In case many of you do not know this – ALL teams have injury, attrition and depth issues – every year. I would bet that Richt is running a very clean program – the Jones issue is very much about Jones – not UGA.
If I understand this – Brandon Burrows did not play at all last year as he ws reshirted – so he provides depth – along with many others on the list.
One player goes down – plug in another and move on. just ask Wally Pipp!

For those who think the Columbus Parks and Rec situation is minor, please think again. Those of us who actually work in and around the city and with the city have heard so many things and everyone has come true to some degree. Now the situation with Jones is going to cause him to lose some guys-definitely to losing his ability to play at all. It is coming. Too much paper trail with money being placed in his hands that belonged to the city and county taxpayers. Too bad for the guy.
Now onto the funniest thing yet: Trooper Taylor has allegedly impregnated a Tigerette and her family is hiring attorneys. Pretty much been verified and life in Auburn is going to get nasty after the Danny Sheridan story on how the “bagman” for Cecil and Cam Newton is talking. Going to get very funny, very soon.

You could select any position on the team except Tight End where we have about 6 Tight Ends determined to be the very best at TE in the nation.
And, you could then discuss the position as woefully inadequate. We are told we are supposed to be positive; that anything less is counter-productive and clearly then not real Bulldog fan on our part.
GONE for this Boise State kick-off game :
1-Jarvis Jones
2-Kent Turene
3-Chris Mayes
4-Devin Bowman
5-Trinton Sturdivant
6-Carlton Thomas
7-Brent Benedict
8-AJ Harmon
9-Caleb King
10-Washaun Ealey
11-Deion Bonner
12-Nick Williams
13-Marcus Dowtin
14-Justin Houston
15-Zach Mettenberger
16-Montez Robinson
17-Jalen Fields
18-Jeremy Longo
19-Logan Gray
20-Jonathan Owens
21-Ben Harden
22-Chris Little
23-Tanner Strickland
24-Lonnie Outlaw
25-Dontavius Jackson
26-Brandon Burrows
All of these guys could have played vs Boise State and South Carolina.
This does not even include all those who are, have been, or probably will be limited due to injuries surgeries and the like such as these 11 :
1-Austin Long
2-Dallas Lee
3-Chris Burnette
4-John Bodin
5-Sterling Bailey
6-Chris Young
7-Justin Anderson
8-Dexter Morant
9-TJ Stripling
10-Derek Owens
11-Derrick Lott
Positive ? Hey, we are going to win the next 3 national championships in a row, beat every team who finishes in the Top 10 of the AP Poll, and never lose to any team we should have beat.
We also are not going to lead the nation in putting the football on the carpet and up for grabs, something this offense is obviously well-trained to do, recover their fumbles.

Too much is written about injury issues the UGA football team may or may not have. The point I am making is they have so many talented players that injuries should not be brought up by the media as major concerns. Evey team has injuries and has to deal with them. Its part of the game.

It is not part of the game of football to have 26 Scholarship Bulldogs who could have played against Boise State and South Carolina, not playing football this year for Georgia.
And, it has nothing to do with overzealous UGA fans in Columbus that a convicted felon paid a Southern California football player tens of thousands of dollars from who cares what pool of money he stole it from to give him. It has to do with the fact, that Mark Richt, when no other team would touch Jarvis Jones, insisted on bringing him here so we can talk about
26
players who cannot play against Boise State now.

I hate Georgia because I dare to say 21 Losses over these last 5 years is entirely too many Losses and because I have the timidity to say that 26 Scholarships WASTED over the last 1 year – 30 percent of the Scholarships entrusted to us – is entirely way too many to waste leaving us in these predicaments at TB, FL, OL, WR, FS, S, CB, DL and LB ? I think you must hate Georgia to ACCEPT and MAKE EXCUSES for all this going on right now today. You must really hate UGA to cringe to read that a person might take exception to this MISMANAGEMENT of the talent here at UGA, right ?

It has always been this way. Back in my day in the 60s, UGA could, as could all SEC schools sign tons of great HS kids and let them compete, with virtually no scholarship limitations.
It eventually changed in the SEC and that is one huge reason GT ran from the conference, as Bobby Dodd felt the need to recruit a much wider pool of kids in order to be able to recruit and keep his high on campus numbers, so he went “Independent” status for GT but that too changed due to NCAA regs that came in.
No, if a young man thinks that he is a ball player, then let him step up and compete. This folks is life. There are no obamas out there to guarantee your life as being forever safe.

I’ve got to admit I was wrong about something. I think CMR may need drop his stance on oversigning. This attrition of players this summer is a good example of why. Nick Saban has this down to a science. Alabama (and other schools) have kids quit/drop out of their program as frequently as UGA, there’s just not as much local publicity about it. Plus those programs are winning. They are winning because they have another quality play to step right in when someone leaves or becomes too injuried to stay on (hello medica scholarship). That’s why it seems Alabama, LSU, FL, Auburn, etc. always seems to have so much more depth and talent than UGA. We need to stock pile players like they do- since it is not illegal to do so.

UGA football is ABSOLUTELY FINE! We have a former NFL linebackers coach who will assess the linebacker talent available to him and start & rotate the most productive players. Many college football coaches, at big-time college programs, tend to favor HS star ratings when playing a player above production. One reason Brian Van Gorder defenses did so well at UGA is that he assessed talent and played his most productive players irregardless of HS star ratings. Van Gorder’s defenses were not always chocked full of 5 & 4 star athletes. If a player produced he played for BVG. Where is BVG now? Coaching in the NFL, where our linebackers coach has just come from. I strongly believe Olavidatti will do excatly the same BVG. Our linebacker position will be in great shape this season because it’s in great coaching hands. Those hands belong to to coach Joe T & coach O. Nuff said, GO DAWGS!!

What a SHOCKER!! UGA is thin at another position. Name one position on this team where there is quality depth. Answer is none. Richt&Garner are such brilliant recruiters, they always recruit needs and not players ranked high by rivals. This shows once again that RIcht is the worst CEO in the SEC. If you kool-aid drinkers need anymore proof, try comparing Bama’s depth chart at every position with this clown Richt’s depth chart at UGA. And the sad thing, this is this is only Saban’s 4th year at Bama. He has stockpiled depth and quality depth at every position, and you don’t see Bama worrying about depth every year at every position like you do if you are a UGA. fan. The sad thing is, Richt&Garner have to take what is left in state after Bama, Auburn, FL, Tenn,,Fl.state, and hell now even S.C. for God’s sake, cherry pick the top talent. UGA doesn’t get to recruit by position, they can only recruit what is left of an empty cupboard after these schools have wiped out the cream of the crop. If you don’t believe me check out what UGA has committed for 2012!! UGA needs O.L desperately, the top O.L in state commits to S.C., and the second best O.L is down to a top 3 of Bama, Auburn&LSU. UGA also needs corners and safeties badly, but the top 2 D.B’s in state which are both ranked in rivals top 100, Geno Smith, who is leaning to either Bama or Auburn, and Hosley who has already committed to Auburn. Hell Auburn will probably wind up with the top 2 D.B’s in state, and UGA is trying to get maybe the 4th best D.B. in state Chaz Elder, but it looks like he is gonna commit to S.C. also. And you Richt lovers rave about how great he is at recruiting. This guy wouldnt know what position is in dire need of players if you asked him. He would just smile and give that dumbass laugh of his, while his competitors in the SEC are doing their homework and kicking his ass all over the place. This program is in shambles, and Saban, and Cheesestick, and now even Spurrier are wiping up because of the state RIcht has put this program in. So keep raving about his recruiting rankings, but rankings don’t mean anything if you don’t recruit to your needs, something RIcht & Garner haven’t figured out in 11 years. UGA=MEDIOCRITY!!!

Don’t look now, but BoBo and RIcht are already starting to use injuries and attrition for their upcoming 6-7 record again this year. BoBo is crying about how unnerving it is with the loss of Ealey,KIng,and Benedict. And now Richt will start crying about losing a 3rd string l.b. that would probably never make a play all year as a big reason UGA will go down hard this year. Truth of the matter is, if these guys could recruit it wouldn’t matter who leaves or who gets hurt, and if they could recruit quality people as well as quality athletes (A.E.Ealey, KIng&Benedict) UGA wouldn’t be in this state. So get ready for a beatdown again this year, and get ready for the same old crybaby excuses that these two losers will make, because in the end, excuses are for losers, and winners don’t make excuses. Too bad UGA fans have all become losers too, because that’s all you hear from them the past 3 years, excuses, excuses, excuses. If Richt was a CEO of any major company, his excuses wouldn;t matter, his bottomline would be all that mattered, but hey Richt is coaching at a school that accepts losing and his excuses. So drinkup UGA fans, i will be waiting to hear your excuses again in a couple of weeks. LOL!

Another note. It’s going to be very interesting to see how the coaches utilize Charles. It seems we’ve been our most dangerous in the past when we utilize the TE more. It will also be interesting to see if Murray finds one guy he gains the most confidence in to catch the ball or if he will spread it around more. It’s possible AJ just overshadowed everyone so much. When you study up on the 4-3 versus the 3-4, you realize it is quite a shift for an experienced player making the transition. There responsibilities can be quite different depending on the situation. The the DL technique is certainly different. We all know that everything starts up front. Any improvement in our DL performance is going to make the rest of the guys that much better.

Another Auburn fan trying to “keep hope alive” and the pressure off a program at Auburn that has so disrespected by everyone that they won the award for “schools that cheat the most” poll.
If I were an Auburn fan I would be more concerned about the latest reports of Mr. Recruiter Trooper Taylor and his troubles with a Tigerette. Add to that the lawsuit filed by his family on his son’s behalf and all the photos being circulated with him and other women, the issues of a bagman who the NCAA has interiviewed and now the Feds and IRS agents are now interviewing to insure he is going to be forthcoming with where the money came from and the entire story. Add to that the “tapes’ that by Auburn fan version “never were there’ are now included in a subpoena dump filed in the past two weeks in Montgomery. John Bond did not talk but the tapes will reveal a major major lie committed by Cam that he did not know what his dad was doing.
So before any auburn fan wants to smack talk they need to stop slamming UGA or Updye, and focus their efforts on how they are going to keep wearing orange and blue as this former Lowder milk program gets “lack of institutional control” pasted to the front gates of Jordon Hare Stadium and then how to place bids for the ‘Pat Dye field” logos to be removed.

Thomas Brown— yes we who have been regulars on this site for the last 5 plus years know who you are–”Bulldawg”.
Tide Roll— while I agree with some of the things you say especially about our offensive line woes, I believe some of those have been addressed with Coach Searels going to LSU, new strength and conditioning coach etc. But to keep harping on it is a little over the top. Yes UGA should be doing a better job of recruiting o-linemen especially numbers wise- IMHO they should be signing at least 6-OL every year and this is due to natural attrition that occurs on the offensive line, probably in retrospect the hardest and most dangerous of positions in football. Anyway it is what it is and if I had anything to do with it we would be signing more o-linemen each year than we do. One thing I have noticed about UGA is we get focused in on one player alot and lose sight of the fact that we need to bring in a number of quality recruits at each position to account for the natural attrition through injuries, academics, poor choices etc that seem to occur with these young men.

Tampa Gator, So you went to middle school with Kent? Get off here and go make foolish statements on the Gator blogs (which, by the way — I have zero interest in). Doesn’t it bore you to read a bunch of posts from Dawg fans writing about our beloved Dawgs? I know I would be absolutely bored to death to read blogs from Gator fans gushing about their Gators. Get a life dude.

I would think that tide roll and other bama folks would be concerned over recent developments in the tide program
1.)Whiffed on the #1 QB in the country who picked – INDIANA? instead of Bama?? Sez to me that NCAA sanctions might be coming and this kid knows it
2.)Injury to Dee Hart’s knee-Conditioning program at bama to blame or just another in long list of kids who were put into situations they couldn’t handle too soon
3.) 2 more major whiffs with high profile recruits this past week in addition to the QB
4.) AND THE BIGGEST-the clothing store thing is getting legs more and more everyday.- Bama is headed down the toilet bowl along with Auburn

tide roll, Have they not invented blogs for UA over there in Alabama yet? Why are you so concerned about our Dawgs? The way you troll the Georgia sites you would think you look at UGA as an in state rival. What you don’t understand is we don’t care what your opinion of UGA is — period. Go find something constructive to say on some of the Alabama sites. Goodbye.

UGA didn’t offer the QB because we are not recruiting one for 2012 class
Crowell is doing great at workouts now. Report you refer to was from the 1st day.
joe Harris was born in SC and has family in SC. It would have been a bigger shock if he had gone to UGA or anywhere else
AJ Green’s penalty was served and is over. the shockwaves at Bama and auburn will be felt for years.

We had plenty of lineman we loss some to injuries and some quit because they couldn’t handle the new strength and conditioning program. That happens at every program and come September 3rd we will strap it up and play with 5 offensive lineman. We aren’t going to go out there with a center and 2 guards and not have any tackles to play. Do you people just sit around and come up with nonsense. Roll tide roll you have too much free time on your hands? You’re not Harvey Updyke are you with all this free time.

How did Richt know Sturdivent would get hurt, Harmon wouldn’t care about his grades and Benedict would quit?? These things happen at every school get over it, move on and play with the players you have!!!

Once I got past a couple of months I pushed the recovery along with light weights and though the therapist was against it, it worked. But in all it was probably 4 months (at least) recovery time from surgery before being fairly strong and able to take hits of any kind.

At least that time you didn’t borrow your lines from somebody else by cutting and pasting as far as I can see. It is one of the few times you didn’t. UGA will be fine. With the number of scholarships there shouldn’t be a depth problem. With the talent that is recruited this is blown up to be a bigger problem than it is. Sure if you lose a top QB, running back, or a one on one cover guy it is a problem. But other positions are replaceable. Hey try coaching college baseball with only 11 and 1/4 scholarships.

so, not counting the incoming freshman, guys who were hurt last year, or jarvis jones, we have 6 experienced LB’s? i’ll go to war with 6. they say that stripling is 100% go for the fall, so that’s 7. we can count on at least 1 of the 3 freshmen who have already reported to contribute, so that’s 8.
what are people worried about again? i’m worried about losing jarvis, but not because we don’t have any other linebackers behind him; it’s because he’s awesome and it’s always hard to lose an awesome player.

Tell your “very prominent sports reporter” he is wrong. Trooper Taylor and Curtis Luper at Auburn are two of the past three recruiters of the year. Neither has even been accused of any wrong doing and they are out beating the recruiting trails and rounding up another top five class for Auburn even as we speak.
Maybe he meant the three recruiters of the year back before Trooper and Luper started winning the award?

Must be getting closer to kick off time. All the jerks are out in force and can’t wait for a new article with anything about UGA, to spout their pathetic attempt at being witty.
If any of these negative blogger had half an ounce of brains, they would realize that psychological warfare, only works when they person can deliver it in person to a captive audience. Like a prisoner for instance. Interestingly enough, they are the prisoners of their own stupidity, so they are actually the ones being persuaded in their own minds, not the UGA fans. UGA fans have already won, because the prisoners are are already so worried, that they are trying to form barriers and platforms for their defense. In other words, you are gonna get your butt handed to you when UGA plays you, so you have set up your
defensive mechanisms ahead of time. Fear is your motivator, not superior skills or intelligence. You fear UGA and are jealous of the players, the team, the coaches, the fans and the great institution it is. I feel sorry sort of in a way, a soldier feels, just before he pulls the trigger, to end the enemies life.
It leaves such a mess if you do it right.
I don’t think it is right to call these folks Trolls, anymore. I think I will just call them “Prisoners Of UGA”. It has a nice ring to it.
