THE TEN AT 10:
1. It looks like Georgia is getting close to wrapping up its investigation into the eligibility issues facing football player Jarvis Jones and basketball player Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. Athletic Director Greg McGarity told reporters covering the Metro Atlanta Bulldog Club on Monday that UGA’s internal inquiry could be completed “before the end of this week.”
That’s the good news. The bad news is the Bulldogs will still have to wait for the NCAA to make a ruling. That tends to take a while. Georgia must first turn over its findings to the SEC office, which then forwards it to the NCAA, which will get back to UGA with a ruling after it has thoroughly reviewed the case.
Nevertheless, the Bulldogs remain hopeful the situation will get resolved before the season opener against Boise State on Sept. 3. Last year’s eligibility issues facing wide receiver A.J. Green did not get resolved until the second week of the season.
There is some hope that Jones can maintain his eligibility. According to the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer, Tony Adams, the man who paid for two round-trip flights to Los Angeles for Jones and his legal .guardian, Shelley Stephens, had been in a relationship with Stephens for some time. So there may have been a preexisting relationship that made paying for the trip permissible.
2. There has been all kinds of gossip this summer regarding Isaiah Crowell and how he might have be faring during Georgia’s off-season workouts. But nobody can be sure what’s truth or fiction since only players and strength coaches are privy to what goes on. The players, it seems, are very protective of the ballyhooed freshman tailback.
Probably the most enlightening comments on the subject came from quarterback Aaron Murray this past week at SEC Football Media Days. Murray’s remarks lead one to believe that work ethic may have been an issue early on, but that Crowell’s teammates made sure it didn’t persist.
Said Murray: “Oh yeah, we sat him down. One of the first weeks he was here, me, Ben [Jones] and Christian [Robinson] and a couple of other guys went to his dorm, took him outside, talked to him and ran him through some plays. Then we told him, ‘Hey, we’re here for you. We’re going to push you on this and on that but, in the end, we’re going to make sure you’re ready to go.’ He definitely took that well and has been working hard.”
Asked why they may have felt compelled to address Crowell in such a way, Murray said, “We wanted to make sure he knew we’re here for him and anything he wanted, we’re a call away. We’re excited about getting him out there and getting him to learn the playbook.”
Virtually every other report that has come out about Crowell has been glowing. His teammates have raved about the athletic potential Crowell has displayed in 7-on-7 work, pass skel and conditioning workouts.
“Oh, yeah, it’s a lot of talent,” Murray said. “Isaiah has all the speed and quickness in the world.”
Said Jones: “Very quick, very explosive. He can break it and he’s got power, too. I can’t wait to see how he is in pads because I heard he’s ‘The Man.’ I hope he is because there’s going to be some big-play opportunities.”
3. Speaking of summer workouts, the grueling regimen the players have been exposed to under new strength and conditioning coordinator Joe Tereshinski is already the stuff of legend. The Bulldogs have run more than they have in years as Tereshinski’s philosophy is to train to “win the fourth quarter” by being the better conditioned team. This has meant miles and miles of timed running at the crack of dawn and in the heat of the afternoons.
But it appears the players have gotten used to the routine and actually have started to enjoy it.
“It’s amazing how people’s bodies have transformed and how people are getting into shape,” senior cornerback Brandon Boykin said. “Everyday we’re running around the track, doing speed drills, running hills, tires, sleds, everything you can think of. We’re doing it all.”
The highlight of the week is when the players run from Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall down Lumpkin Street to Sanford Stadium and back to the football complex via East Campus Road.
“We do a morning run, usually on Fridays, where we run to the stadium, run through the stadium and then run back,” Boykin said. “It’s pretty nice to run with your team throughout campus. You’ve got your shirt off and girls are looking at you. Everybody wants to be seen and see the hard work they’ve put in. That’s actually something we look forward to on Friday.”
4. Coach Mark Richt has resurrected two-a-days for preseason camp this year. The Bulldogs scrapped them last year but will practice twice on Tuesday, Aug. 9, and again on Saturday, Aug. 13. Richt, following the trend of many teams in college football, scrapped them last year. Richt also said Georgia will hold several full-contact practices.
5. Richt told reporters before Monday’s Bulldog Club gathering that freshman eligibility issues for signees Devin Bowman and Kent Turene are still “up in the air.”
6. Three quotes from Richt at SEC Media Days last week told me there he is definitely re-invigorated for the coming season:
7. Recently-graduated UGA All-American Harris English won the Nationwide Tour’s Children’s Hospital Invitational golf tournament on Sunday at the Ohio State Golf Club’s Scarlet Course. English became the third Bulldog to win a Nationwide event this year — joining Russell Henley and Erik Compton — and just the third amateur ever to win on American golf’s No. 2 tour.
English finished at 14-under-par 270. Since English has maintained his amateur status, the $144,000 first-place prize went to the second-place finisher. Earlier this month, English won the Southern Amateur in Palm Harbor, Fla. He also recently was chosen as a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar for the second straight year by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
8. This one slipped by me this summer: Ray Lamb, the longtime director of high school relations for Georgia and legendary high school coach, retired last month. I first met Coach Lamb back when he fashioned tiny little Commerce High into a perennial football powerhouse. But I really got to know him on the sidelines of UGA’s Woodruff Practice Fields as he’d share stories about football and life as the Bulldogs’ practices were raged on. Lamb’s sons Hal (Calhoun High) and Bobby (Mercer University) followed him into coaching and now he has grandsons that are playing high school ball. So it seems Ray will still be involved in the game fulltime. UGA’s Loran Smith wrote a nice column about Lamb on georgiadogs.com.
9. Richt is asking for prayers for the 4-year-old daughter of linebackers coach Kirk Olivadotti. Kasyn Olivadotti has Leukemia and has been in the hospital for more than a month.
10. THIS & THAT: Here’s a news release from Daktronics Inc. about the new LED scoreboard installed at Sanford Stadium.Morgan Leleux, a pole vaulter from New Iberia, La., who signed with Georgia earlier this year, took the gold medal at Pan American Junior Track & Field Championships in Miramar, Fla., this past weekend. Leleux cleared 13-7 1/4. Next she’ll compete in the USATF National Junior Outdoor Championships on Friday. She’ll enroll at UGA in the fall.

When asked about any more eligibility issues earlier, CMR was kinda vague…kind of a “when we know, you’ll know” answer. I guess he was referring to Bowman and Turene. I know they are both new signees, but (assuming they have to take the GMC detour) would they redshirt anyway? Anybody know? Go Dawgs!

something smells here…doesn’t seem right to allow the punishment to follow the kids for the actions of their parents, if they were…do you reckon Jone’s parent mentioned to her son the need for money to fly him to L.A. or that Caldwell-Pope’s mom told him she needed help paying her cell phone bill…. you might be inclined to compare this to the Cam Newton scenario, but there is not even a remote resemblance…..and p.s….you reckon USC will be penalized for what the folks in columbus did to help Jarvis Jones fly out to L.A.

Yep, everytime I hear some idiot calling for Richt to be fired I think of two things: I first assume they are not a Bulldog fan (nothing our enemies would like more than to see him gone,)or at best have no more connection to UGA and it’s football program than the hat they bought at Wally-world. (And certainly they could not coach their own way out of a wet paper bag yet they think they have an opinion that matters regarding this. Whereas CMR has been at his profession at top level teams for 25 years.)
The second thing that comes to mind is Tennessee and Coach Fulmer. Wonder how many TN fans rue the day they called for his head. Look who they got to replace him and what it has done to their program. TN fans put aside the great record he had there when he had a couple of off years.
If CMR were fired I bet 50 schools would be calling him the first week. And I cannot think of anyone that I would choose ahead of him as a replacement.
Everyone needs to remember that our expectations can be so high because CMR has set the bar so high in the first place.

That 2-a-day thing sure has got a lot of coverage for such a non-story. They only had three scheduled last year, and decided it better to use a scheduling option allowed by the NCAA to get more actual days of practice and instruction time for the new defense. Then they ended up having one anyway, so it was a pretty nothing story back then. BUT now it’s all back. Going to bring back the 2-a-day. All both of them.

Richt at one point was an offensive genious for bowden. We wanted him to give up play calling to focus on the team as a whole.
I have never been a bobo fan even when he played QB at UGA. I thought it was a terrible decision to give him the play calling. He is a great QB coach (was making 95K a year doing that), but falls short of being a great play caller. And maybe Richt has a leash on him I dont know, but whatever it is isnt working.

So you think the reason that the ball goes to the TE is that the OC just tells them to? “throw the ball to the TE, I don’t care what the DB or the LBV are doing, throw it to him”. ?
It’s not the QB standing at the line, assessing the Defense, and deciding what he can do? What do you think ‘developing the player” involves? reading the defense would seem to be a pretty big part, IMO.
The staff was asked about this several times last year. They repeatedly said. “we have options for Orson Charles all the time, but for a number of reasons (and they listed several) it hasn’t worked out”. Maybe they were lying, and just didn’t know how to draw up a play for the TE. (or I guess, forgot, since they have a long history of knowing how)
Here’s a question: IF Charles does get the ball a lot more this year, do you really think the only reason will be that Bobo just learned how to draw up plays for the TE this past summer? Or will there be a lot more rational explanation involving circumstances?
What you you like to bet that Coach Bobo could sit in a film room and show you multiple times his position player missed an opportunity to hit the TE?

Lets be pro-active with Jarvis. Since a number of schools who commit infactions have placed themselves on probation which have no real effects on the team, we should do the same. We should go ahead and place Jarvis on probation. We could tell the NCAA that we will not let him have lunch during the football season. As Ohio State, Tennessee, LSU, USC and other universities have tried to make themselves look good before the NCAA, we should do the same. Or wait for the four game suspension like Green.

Bobo’s problem have been in the spring and summer, NOT play calling on game day being predictable. There are reasons that things in the universe are predictable.
I could watch any team a few games, certainly a couple of seasons, and predict what basic play formation they are going to use on down and distance probably 50% of the time. Throw in a less than average running game, and I’d get it right even more. Stick thier freshman QB out there and I’ll be right 60-70% of the time. Any team, any OC.
It’s not knowing what a team with a very well know philosophy is going to do that is the problem. It’s the results of the play that’s the problem. Nobody has any complaints about doing the same thing during some of the better runs the past few years. And doing something completely unpredictable that doesn’t work (and has less chance of working) isn’t going to get any attaboys either.
Figure out who and how to DO the play better, and take that into the fall. That’s the answer.

calling the plays is one thing. Executing the play is what they need to do. Mike Bobo is an excellant play caller. The dogs did not execute. That will be the difference this year. They will execute. They will be in excellant condition so they will be able to execute. They will execute all the way to the sec championship game.

Who was the OC versus VT in the 2006 bowl game?
Who was the OC versus LSU when we hung 52 on them in Tiger Stadium?
Who was the OC when we hung 42 on Florida?
People, it is not the offense. You have to execute it. And, you have to stop someone on 3rd down and not give up 22 PPG.
Increase the stops on 3rd down and drop the PPG to 14 and Bobo becomes a non factor.

DinLex, I was just about to call you out and find out where you were? You’ve been preaching “it’s not the Offense but the Defense”. Clear as a bell to me. I don’t like Bobo’s game management or he’s play calling but he puts points on the board (most of the time). Hold the opponents to under 20 and we win 10 games every year.

@DawginLex I watched the USCe game last year and heard fan after fan screaming about our new DC..I went back and watched the game again and time after time we had players in the hole or a yard or two down field and they just didn’t make the tackle and Lattimore just ran amok. The DC’s and OC’s jobs are to put players in position it is the position coaches and more importantly the players that have to make the play……..

Think last season’s close losses was the result of not having the
right players to make the 3-4 defense work. This season will be
different, would not be surprised to hold a lot of teams to 3 points
or less. Got the right players at nose and linebackers to wreak
havoc with the opposing quarterback. Kellen Moore, as great as
he is, has not witnessed the onslaught of what he is to face with
our blitzing.

I don’t know about excellent play caller. Although he has called some excellent plays that I guarantee NOBODY predicted from time to time. He is a very sufficient playcaller. Personally, I think the play “develops” at the line more than it’s “called” from the sideline, and that’s why we see Bobo’s approval rating so dramatically tied to the experience of his QB. Maybe one day he will have the years on the job and he can better compensate for shortcomings of the team, But he has proven that he can call plenty well when he has a team doing what it’s supposed to do.
I’d far rather have a team doing what it’s supposed to do than somebody new calling the plays.
But again it’s the preparing the team in the offseason, or recruiting, or whatever the issue is, that has been the problem, not the plays.

I just hope the NCAA speeds up this investigation, if he needs to sit out then fine, but don’t make UGA have to sit him out because they don’t know. If the ncaa wouldn’t take so long on these investigations then it would really clear up a lot of these scandals, instead some coaches take chances (tech) and some go the safe route.

Ummmm they talked to Crowell that way because he JUST got on campus and he has NEVER played in the offense and he has a playbook to learn, he has to learn to pass block in the system, he has to LEARN everything! We NEED him and they KNOW what he does NOT know and they are there to HELP and get the offense ready and he is the BIGGEST addition and he just got on the team! That is the obvious reason. How do you take it as he has an issue?
Your perspective on this, if it is only that and you have no other basis to arrive at it, was OUT OF LINE. You should have stated as much instead of trying to stir the hornets nest. That is VERY UNFAIR to Crowell. What is your agenda? It was certainly negative. I hope Murray or Crowell NEVER give you the time of day in the future.

OC calls the plays, and yes he can say this is for Orson. Obviously sometimes there are circumstances when he was covered and Murray checked down. But for him to only have like 2 catches a game??? give me qa break. Everyone knows Bobo’s play calling last year was throw it up to Green in any possible passing situation. He hasnt given Orsen a chance to prove that he can be a go to guy in a jam or that he can break off the coverage and catch the ball.
QB coach does help them to read the field and assess coverages no arguement there, but it is up to the OC on what play is called and what options are 1- W/E. There is no way that charles was covered entire game except for an average of like 2-3 catches. He is basically a wideout going up against LB’s. That should have been taken advantage of more.

Im not one of the Fringe UGA fans shouting for change just for the sake of change. Im here voicing a big concern that has to be addressed or we will be 6-7 again.
The biggest problem is that we havent changed any plays over the past decade. Sure maybe a few additions here and there, but where is the Wild Dawg? We have run it 2 times since it was added. We have lots of speed and could use this 2 times a game.

Some good plays to introduce would be the use of Malcom Mitchell.
Line him up at WR, line him up in the Wildcat, line him up in the backfield
and send him in motion, a lot like Hines Ward did. He can be a play maker
and disrupt coverage on defense, opening up Orson and others. He will
require double coverage and I don’t think they can still cover him.

Some people insist on an OC that takes less than 4-5 plays to score a TD on every posession – anything short of that, they want anybody fired that’s not them.

@shankit those are some good ideas..now I have never been a OC heck I’ve never played one on TV…but you have to think I have a OL that dwarfs the Smurfs DL who by all accounts are good at getting after a QB. I have a TB that is over 220 lbs and a FB pushing 270lbs…two words jump out at me power running…..then a steady dose of Orson Charles and our WR’s..

how2fish – I agree with the size issue. But quickness and the slanting defenses people use now it is tough to blow people off the ball. The Big Ten has always had trouble with the SEC and pound for pound they have just about always been nothing but beef. Bear Bryant won alot of ball games because he out quicked people. It is not as easy to lineup and blow people off the ball anymore. Speed and stunt defenses are hard to block sometimes. But I sure see your point.

Some random thoughts:
1. Isaiah Crowell will be one of the biggest flops in UGA history. After very unimpressive performance and a few trips to the Athens-Clarke County jail, He’ll end up being sent home to his mama. Look for him flipping burgers at your favorite fast-food joint by this time next year.
2. Ray Lamb has more class and integrity in his little finger than Mark the Phony Saint Richt has in his whole body.
3. After the NCAA ferrets out all the cheating and the sleaze in Athens, UGA will be lucky to avoid the death penalty.

@Columbus: Ummmmmm, “Said Murray: “Oh yeah, we sat him down. One of the first weeks he was here, me, Ben [Jones] and Christian [Robinson] and a couple of other guys went to his dorm, took him outside, talked to him and ran him through some plays.”
Translation: We sat him down and told him how to work or that he will not be playing if he doesn’t get his head on straight.
When do you ever take someone outside and give them a pep talk? He said he was here for “weeks” before they sat him down to talk about his behavior and approach to the game. Crowell didn’t come in focused, understandable when he is as hyped as he is and only 18, but it sounds like we have some real leaders in the locker room looking out for him.
If Crowell was doing as well as you think he is, would the coaches have moved Samuels back to RB and proclaim him the starter? Wouldn’t they just get him some reps for depth at the position? We have a serious defenciancy at the RB position and the coaches could tell Crowell wasn’t going to be ready for the first two games. Every coach knows they are coaching for their jobs this season and want the best chance to win, even if it is a LB playing RB. We aren’t building for the future because the future is now. It is now or never here in Athens, and Crowell isn’t ready right now.

Crowell does have all the physcial attributes and now a good influence in Murray. If Crowell can learn the playbook and remain grounded, he can be an All-Everything back.
But if he buys into the hype, he’ll end up being a Sanks-esque bust. No one is above hard work.

I for one feel any true fan of Georgia have the right to voice their opinion especially the season ticket holders. Those that say we should only say GO DAWGS don’t really care if we win or not. I am not saying those fans are not good fans but they are more wanting to be involved at Georgia. Which is good. But those type fans have to realize that a great athlete only is interested in one thing and that’s to win, nothing else matters. A lot of people that criticize and make suggestions were the leaders of whatever sport they played in their home town and winning is the only thing that matters. If you were never a leader of a sports team, I mean someone that everybody talked about and would lead your team to victory ,over and over, then you have no idea what I am talking about but for those of you that fit in that category I have no problem reading about your suggestion. When a team go’s 6-7 they need help anyway they can get it. Now for those of you that just criticize everything . You know the ones that would have something bad to say if we were 11-1 and lost the one game by one point. I say to you, GET A LIFE.

It is great to hear that we have some leadership on this years team and the players are buying into why they are at Georgia. I’m so glad that CMR finally purged this team of the players that were more interested in being COOL or big shots standing out as individuals than helping bring the team together and doing what it took to win in the SEC. It sounds like we have the right mindset, now it will be interesting to see if we have the physical skills as a team to carry that to win the close hard games.

AltamahaDawg- No on the plays that he was open for I bet he was a 3rd or 4th option and when we had AJ in he was #1 no question every play and I bet they told Murray to get it to him if you think he will catch it. This idea allowed DB’s to not focus as much on others such as TE’s. But we had it instilled in our brains that throwing it to AJ all day was the way to go.
If you look back we havent used the TE much since Pope and that was only bc he was 6ft7.
TE is a huge safety net and you would have expected a RS Freshman to use him more than he did especially since they went to HS together. Something has to change this year for us to be successful on offense and that is to get Orsen the ball 7-10 times a game. He will dominate LB’s across the country given the oppurtunity.

You are missing my point. If Charles was not covered, or “could have” taken the LB, and the QB either doesn’t see that, at the line before the snap, or saw it and just never said anything to his OC, then the QB coach failed. I’m not arguing how valuable a TE can be. I’m saying its silly to suggest that Mike Bobo just didn’t understand that. The failure was more having his QB better prepared. not arguing that AJ was the primary target, but why was that? Do you think he just wanted to see if he could handicap his QB by forcing him to use less options.

Mobile dawg and I have both floated out the theory in the past (worded slightly differently) that some of the recent issues with the team can be traced back to a breakdown of leadership among the players. I believe you can actually chart it back a few years ago and watch the cycle of certain classes. The only good thing about struggling (and why every team will cycle) is that at some point a class gets far enough removed from “expecting” and they restart a cycle of what it took for the guys way back when. Sounds like we may be seeing that class. One thing for sure, the survivors from last season aren’t feeling too much entitlement right now.

Leadership is about holding one another accountable on the field. Coaches can’t make the plays. UGA is in the top 15 year in and year out when it comes the recruiting rankings. They go after the same players Bama and Florida do yet without as much success(in the last half of this decade anyway).
Forget coaching, these guys need to get it done on the field. A coach is only suppose to put you in position to make a play. On the field, it’s all on the athlete.

Thanks for the recognition Altamaha. The “informal” leadership provided by players can’t be overstated. At this point doesn’t matter what the coaches have done in the past. It “optimistically speaking” appears that we may have a fresh start in Athens. I don’t expect “miracles” as some apparently do, just need to see some “hunger” that’s been missing for quite awhile.
Joe T’s program could be the driving force behind that “hunger”. Pain experienced, worked through, and the gain from those victory’s in training “should” equal a new passion. I think with the “lack of leadership” shown by the past few classes the Seniors may not provide the main spark. It may well come from the newer troops on the team.

I actually think Mike Bobo is a good offense coordinator and play caller and I know that I am in the minority with that opinion. There are things that I disagree with and would like to see changed/implemented, but last year the offense had a variety of problems starting with the OL playing well below their capabilities and expectations. They were supposed to be one of the top lines in the country and that really hurt our ability to have any consistancy. He also had a frosh QB that had never taken a snap and while Murray played very well last year (in my opinion), he was certainly tentative in the first 3-4 games compared to the last half of the season. Also, the AJ suspension for the first 4 games hurt the team more than just not having their best player for 4 games. It was a major distraction to say the least.
Yes, I would like to see more toss sweeps (it seems like we consistantly get 3 yards or more when we toss sweep). I’d love to see us use that at least once a quarter. I’d like to see fewer long bombs thrown particulary in a 2nd and 10 or 2nd and 8 situation (usually resulting in a 3rd and 10 or a 3rd and 8 when that low percentage play goes incomplete). I like the long ball when it is 2nd and 3 or 1st and 5 because of an offsides, but it just seems like the last two years we throw deep when a 5 yard gain would help keep the drive going.
Like all fans, I have my favorite plays that we call and some that I think are ill advised, but I think this guy knows what he is doing.

It does bother me to hear that already a very young man, CMR’s age is saying that he is “Re energized” and so “looking forward to” this or that. I am 62 and at the age of 57 decided to hang it up and do something else, after nearly 34 yrs with one firm. CMR has been at UGA for 10 full years and making $$ kazillions and is feeling re energized? Why does he feel the need to Re anything?
I was in senior management and repsonsible for around 90 employees, national Sales and the BOTTOM LINE and did not ever have that need …………..ever, until I announced my retirement at 57 and I made considerably less than CMR. Does he LOVE his job? Does he love that job at UGA?
If so, then, why the need to re anything?? A 45 or 46? Y.O. man coaching ought not to have to say these things. His mind might be elsewhere in forward mode in his faith based activities, is my fear. I have felt this for about 3 years now.

Really Chip? I would have expected better from you? I listened to Aaron’s comments and how do you get anything out of this other than they took their soon to be #1 RB out and talked to him to make sure he’s on the same page as that team captains. “Murray’s remarks lead one to believe that work ethic may have been an issue early on, but that Crowell’s teammates made sure it didn’t persist.” I expect that from Carvall, but not from you. Very disappointed!

Have to agree with how2fish. We will have an average 40-50 pounds on Boise State’s DL (assuming our front 5 stays healthy and UNSUSPENDED.) Admittedly, I’m not that familiar with Boise State’s front four on the DL, but are they really that much quicker than SEC DL’s? Many think DL is the SEC’s true advantage over other conferences? Just bigger faster more talented and deeper than the big 10, pac 12, and big 12 DL’s.
I would think that even in the air conditioned dome, we could wear out the Boise DL by running a lot of plays. Personally, I think that is the key to beating Boise State. Not time of posession, but how many offensive plays we are able to run. I’d like to see at least 70 as I think they will really start to wear down after 45-50.

Not to disagree with your point I-Dog, but isn’t number of plays run, i.e. the more you run, the longer you posses the ball? If we run enough plays we will win time of possession? Keeping the ball away from Moore can only help. IF, the Dawgs come out hungry, prepared, in condition, and motivated, I think we will kick Boise’s a$$. It’s up to us as to how well they do. We have the potential IMO, to destroy Boise. The longer we let them stay in the game the better they will play. If we come out early and establish domination, we win. Love to see the defense score a few points this year.

I really think that leadership goes in cycles. Not because there are any less good kids on the team, but just a flow of how some kids had to build it, the next group rides the wave but they know how it happened, then 2 years later nobody on the team was around to remember it wasn’t always that easy.
Look at 2001-2004, 2005(06)- 2008, as I said earlier, I’ll forever believe that the odd set of player circumstances really aggrivated the would be cycle of 2009-13.
Compounded by (a variety of) coaching related issues hitting at the worst time.
But I could very easily see a 2002 type cycle coming up.

Mobile Dawg, I don’t know about the old “come out and establish domination” theory on that game. I can’t recall the last time we did that. Or did that and held onto to it the entire game. Halftime tends to slow us down for some reason. Of course this is a new year, more seasoned QB and leadership on the team. I hope we get back to the old way of just winning and feeling like you are going to win. You remember, we are favored, we show up, we play hard all 60 and have the feeling that nothing will stop us.

I hope the running gmae is ready to go. Ball control will be needed to allow the whole team to get some much needed experience and keep the defense off the field for the majority of the game. If you can pound it out on the ground, it sets up passing plays and controls the clock. If our defense is as good as we hope they are, the offense will get plenty of opportunities to work, so I hope they can run the ball quite a bit. We don’t have a lot of experience in our RB’s, but our OL is good, but thin in backups. Hopefully, with the new S and C program in place and folks having worked in it for a few months, we will be ready to play 4 quarters, and with our D, wear down some offenses of our opponent. Our running game should come around if the guys work as a team, and help each other. We do have guys that have been with the team to show the young bucks how and what it takes.

I think the main thing with Boise is to take the battle to them..we can not finesse this bunch we have to line up and blow them off the line of scrimmage. Pound them for 4 quarters with a big OL backed up with a 220lb RB and a 270 lb FB….and a defense that keeps Mr.Moore off balance..we give him all day to throw and a lot of possessions and he will pick us apart…our best defense in this game is to keep the ball with our offense…that’s just the way I see it….

How2fish, great idea, but one thing you forgot, UGA under Richt&BooBoo are a finesee team. Always has been and always will be. Even when UGA is clicking in the running game, the brilliant BooBoo will abandon it, and start throwing the ball on 1st&2nd down. This guy is one of the worst O.C. in the SEC, and he doesn’t know what a power running attack looks like, much less how to call plays for one. All this clown knows is draw, and playaction even when the running game isn’t successful. Hate to say it, but UGA will not control the clock against B.S, even if they outweight their D.L. by 50 lbs per man. You can’t take stripes off of a zebra, and you can’t change BooBoo mentality. So, i see B.S. picking UGA apart and with Murray starting out every game like he is scared to death, waiting until the middle of the 2nd qtr. to settle down will get UGA so far behind, it will be impossible to catch up. But i do like your attitude, to bad our coaches don’t know what that attitude means.

Crowell is a true freshman with a ton of talent. I’m sure he’s never had to work that hard to succeed. No surprise there. I think Murray, et al showed great leadership to not only let him know the effort that’s required, but to also let him know he is a big part of the team. Crowell seems to accept that. RS weighs 243, Figgins weighs 272. I want to see Jenkins run in our 4th TD from the 2. We scored 30+ seven straight games last year. Our problem in most losses since BVG left has been the defense. I hope and think we will return to having a strong defense in 2011. Do you not remember all the losses when BVG was here was because of our offense sputtered and couldn’t move the ball? That is why we called for CMR to hire an OC. Do you really think that there is a team out there where all the fans agree with every offensive play call? I too wonder why we run a draw sometimes to Thomas on 3rd and 11. Bobo probably wonders how all these Dawg fans who have never coached successfully are supposed to be thrilled and awed with every call he makes. Do you think AM, as a freshman executed Bobo’s calls perfectly? Bobo produced last year. Our offense has been outscored the last few years by WM’s defense. CTG has the hauses now, let’s see.

No snoop, we don’t support him “because” he is a Christian. Although that does endear him to some of us more as a person, it doesn’t have much to do with playing a game, with a ball. We support him because he is employed as the Head Coach of our favorite college football team. And for the foreseeable future, and as much as any of us have control over it, we have figured out that if our favorite college football team is to win more games, the coach would need to be part of that. So we support his effort do do so, and are just wise enough to know that not doing so is simply a waste of time and energy. Plus most people aren’t just negative in general about things they do for enjoyment. Does that clear it up for you?

Coach Richt…I see among posters to this and other sites, two extremes. One group frequently called “Haters” want Richt fired yesterday. Another group sometime called “Koolade” drinkers look at Richt’s fine qualities and proclaim him the best coach UGA has ever had and talk about how fortunate for UGA that he is our football coach. I’m somewhere in betweem these groups and believe in accountability. As Truman said…”the buck stops here” (or in this case with Richt).
I enjoyed his early success…averaging 10 or more games a season, actually beating Florida (two times) and winning the SEC, winning against some good teams.
Given the results in recents years, one can wonder if the success of the early years should be attributed to inheiting good players, a good supporting cast, and catching the predominate SEC teams at the right time.
Coach Richt is compassionate individual with a strong will. In recent years and for whatever reason, he has been slow and reluctant (too patient)to deal with team and program problems and it’s reflected in the team records. No I have never played or coached football and cann’t imagine what is involved in running a program like UGA. But I have enjoyed a lots of football in 60 years, mostly UGA football. Hopefully, the changes he has made will work.

Often, time of pos. and # of plays go hand in hand, but not always. If a WR or RB stays in bounds after a 5 yard gain, the clock keeps running and if the QB takes their time going with the next play it can run 30+ seconds off the clock. Do a few of those and it is a couple of minutes of poss. but only a few plays.
You tire a defense out by making them line up and tackle you, cover you, and rush the passer and most importanly with Boise… make their D line work against our OL. If you run a 4 yard carry and the RB goes out of bounds and then line up quick and run another for 7 yards and the clock stops for the 1st down, it doesn’t take much time off the clock, but you are making them defend at least another 3 plays.
I just don’t want to see us chuck it down the field all day and have 3-5 play drives, especially if we don’t score. I want to see 10+ play scoring drives and make Boise defend over and over.

I do admire both Spurrier’s and saban’s coaching abilities as college coaches, but the reason they did not succeed in the NFL, is simply that they could not intimidate the players at the Pro. level.
