Not that it will come as a surprise to anyone, but the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between Georgia and Boise State officially became a hard sellout on Monday.
The exact time was 9:02 a.m. At 9 sharp, UGA put 800-plus $55 tickets on sell and they were gone two minutes later, according to both Georgia and Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game officials.
That means all 71,228 tickets have been snapped up a month and nine days before kickoff (Sept. 3, 8 p.m.) and Chick-fil-A Bowl President and CEO Gary Stokan is a very happy man.
“One of the things that sold Georgia and [Athletic Director] Greg McGarity on this game was we could give them access to tickets,” Stokan said Monday. “As of today they sold more than 53,000 tickets. I think the majority of their season-ticket holders were able to get access to tickets. That said, I have lists longer than both my arms of people calling me. So it must be a tough ticket if people are already calling me this far out.”
It wasn’t the earliest sellout for the still-relatively-new game. That goes to the 2009 game featuring No. 5 Alabama and No. 7 Virginia Tech, according to Matt Garvey, vice president of communications for the Chick-fil-A Game.
“But nobody has sold as many tickets as Georgia has either,” Stokan pointed out. In the previous three Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games the schools split 31,000 tickets each. Only LSU-North Carolina last year was not a sellout.
“When we put this game together, we went to Boise State and asked them how many tickets they thought they could sell and they said 75-hundred [7,500],” Stokan said. “And then we went to Greg and asked him what he thought he needed and he said, ‘as many as you have to sell.’ So I think Mark Richt and Greg have done a wonderful job of getting their people excited about this year. I think it’s a credit to the passion of the University of Georgia football fans. That’s what you need to do in a game like this.”
Georgia has sold 53,522 tickets, or approximately of the Georgia Dome’s capacity. Boise State sold out of its allotment a couple of weeks ago. The remainder go to Georgia Dome suiteholders and the Chick-fil-A folks.

SCORE: Boise State 222, UGA 0 >>>> The beatdown of the year.
After the game, a UGA player who reads, writes, and speaks at a 4th grade level will be interviewed on TV, and millions of viewers will wonder why Mark Richt recruits these dummies and why UGA admits them.
It makes you long for the days when ethical UGA coaches like Wallace Butts and Harry Mehre recruited literate athletes who actually earned serious college degrees.
If you doubt this, go back and read Caleb King’s farewell tweet. The guy couldn’t even write a coherent sentence. This simpleton should have been sweeping floors somewhere, not enrolled in college.

Come on Dawg fans you have to be more realistic. You don’t just take a 6-7 team that lost to C. Fla and after a off season of not playing in real games beat a top 5 team. I believe you will be better but you can’t expect that type of turn around. I have great respect for your coach (he’s a class act) but he can’t work miracles in just one off season. If this was next year maybe…but just one season removed from a losing record…just not practical thinking. Good luck anyway.

So was Florida….but Bama beat them too. It is not about winning in the polls…..it is about winning on the field….no matter what excuses you want to make. Florida was a better team than Bama that year…..talent wise….but Bama was the better team on the field…..Dunlap or a suspended Dunlap…..hurt Cunningham or no hurt Cunningham…..two talent out or not out of the game…..Florida should have had players step up and played better in that game….they didn’t. Therefore, Bama won the NC. Same with Texas…..and I don’t think Texas had better talent than Bama….maybe as good….but not better. But Florida did. But they did not play better. But the Gators did come back and showed that multiple NFL talent base against a talented, undefeated, well-coached Cincy team….and that made me proud as a Gator fan.
So…..iff you want to talk smack about the SEC….at least talk honest smack.

@BroncoBlue & BroncoBilly:
I’m glad you guys have such faith in your team. It will be a privilege to play such a disciplined, well-oiled machine as Boise State–a team that has lost four consecutive contests to SEC teams, including a humiliating 48-13 blowout to Georgia in 2005 that wasn’t even as close as the score.
Boise State has to get up to play 2 or 3 contests a year against teams with similar talent. There are at least four SEC teams whose would be favored against the Broncos even on the road (Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, South Carolina) and three more who would give the Broncs a run for their money on any given Saturday (Georgia, Mississippi State, Florida). If Boise played an SEC West slate with two East crossover games, they would likely lose at least four regular season games to finish the regular season at 8-4. Attrition would grind them into oblivion; match-up problems would abound week-to-week. Now, Kellen Moore is a great QB, and you guys may win the Kickoff Classic after all–Georgia’s talent is very young, and its depth is suspect–but if you’re expecting a walkover in the Dome, and if you think Georgia’s players are going to cower in their cleats because they’re playing the Blue Boys from Idaho, you’re in for a rude awakening on Labor Day weekend. The Dawgs play tough opponents every week–and have for over 100 years of football.
You don’t inspire fear in any southern team–just amusement. And, hopefully, a thirst for redemption for a team that vastly underachieved last season.

I like our odds against Boise, man for man, position by position. When it’s broken down, advantage Dawgs, throw in the home crowd and this could get ugly by late third quarter. So Vandy, who Georgia plays “home ‘n home” has a 90,000 plus stadium….LMAO. Typical SEC fan…can’t do the math. The reason SEC schools won’t play Boise “home’n home” is because they would rather play Georgia Southern. The fact is that SEC schools don’t like going west. I would say…..at this time…..your chance of a return trip to Atlanta in December is equal to SC and Florida……toss up between those three. On paper concerning experienced talent, it is safe to pick SC (they have some serious talent on offense). If it is based on young, somewhat experienced talent on the roster and Weis’ offensive coaching skills……it would be safe to pick Florida. I recently rewatched the Bama-Texas game….Bama came out and crushed the Texas QB….dominated the first half……completely……relaxed….and allowed Texas back into the game….and then turned it back on and dominated again. Bama had difficulty staying focused in the game….because they were so much better. Texas got a lot of their passing yards…including Shipley….when Bama came out of their standard defense and started the prevent crap. They then shut Texas down again when the game got tight…and Bama easily put the game away. Imagination is good….but not healthy when used improperly.

Bronco…with this, I say goodnight. K. Moore is a great QB…..but he lost his two best receivers from last year. That can’t help him….and Georgia has an experienced secondary. But Boise has a chance against Georgia…and I think they would compete well in the SEC. They are a good team…..but they would not win the SEC West this year….but they would be very competitive in the SEC East….but not win it. Too much depth on the top SEC East teams compared to Boise. It would take its toll on Boise in a full SEC schedule…..but you would beat some good SEC teams, no doubt. And you could upset Georgia….but I am taking Georgia.

Also you’re d-line does not have any guy over 300lbs. maybe one. that won’t hold up well with UGA’s o-line with every guy weighing in at over 310lbs. Plus a 270 lbs FB and 240 lbs RB. Talk about hard nose running. Again don’t be so ignorant. Tough one for BSU. It will be hard for them to match the SEC with their scout team plus the practices they have to miss b/c of their violations.

To Ruta Lin regarding Mark Richt recruiting illiterate football players. You obviously have not heard the Georgia players speak to the public. You should listen to guys like Aaron Murray, Brandon Boykin, Ben Jones and Ray Drew – to name a few – interviews and speeches before you make statements like that. I also bring to your attention Aron White – who has already graduated but will be a senior on the football team this year – he was one of the speakers at the UGA graduation ceremony this past spring and did an excellent presentation. Aaron Murray and Brandon Boykin are both majoring in pre-journalism and broadcast news. I watched their speaking videos at the SEC Media Days last week in Hoover, Ala. Both these guys could forgo their football careers at UGA and today be broadcasting on live TV they are such eloquent speakers. These are guys who spoke spontaneously without any notes or teleprompters. And I doubt you’ve ever heard a sermon by Ray Drew who at 18 is an ordained minister. So much for illliteracy at UGA.

To all my fellow Dawgs shooting back at Smurf-Turfers: Be careful when you confuse willingness to travel and willingness to play stiffer competition. UGA went from 1965 (at Michigan) to 2008 (at Arizona State) without playing a single football game outside the Southeast.

So UGA has a bunch of fat, black offensive and defensive linemen who can’t move against Boise’s quick lines….and I’m supposed to be impressed…LMAO. These aren’t athletes…they’re just something to run around and ignore. Check this out:
Here’s a pretty interesting analysis from one of the Bronco’s forums regarding the UGA running attack against BSU:
“Checking out the UGA boards, they are still all atwitter about their rushing attack and its prospects against lil’ ol’ Boise State.
What UGA fans might not realize is just how well BSU’s rush defense has performed during Coach Pete’s tenure against AQ teams that finished in the top 25, most of which had very good running games. For a barometer, do recall that UGA last year had the #73 rush offense, netting 142.62 yards per game, averaging 4.07 yards per rush.
2006
Oregon State rushed for 58 yards on 32 carries, for a 1.81 yards per carry average. Okay, the Beavers were a poor rushing team that year, #81 in the nation, rushing 118.21 yards per game, averaging 3.49 yards per carry.
Oklahoma rushed for 174 yards on 38 carries, for a 4.57 yards per carry average. The Sooners were the #17 rushing team in the nation that year, averaging 177.14 yards per game, on 4.45 yards per carry.
2008
Oregon rushed for 227 yards on 52 carries, for a 4.36 per carry average. But the Ducks finished the year #2 in rushing with a 280.08 yards per game average, on 6.22 yards per carry.
2009
Oregon rushed for 31 yards on 17 carries, for a 1.82 yards per carry average. The Ducks were #6 in rushing offense that year, averaging 231.69 yards per game, on 5.51 yards per carry.
2010
VT rushed for 128 yards on 44 carries, for a 2.91 yards per carry average. The Hokies were the #23 rushing offense, averaging 198.71 yards per game, on 4.88 yards per carry average.
Other than Oklahoma, which basically was held to its average, all these other teams significantly underperformed with their rushing attacks, averaging at least a 33% per rush average reduction (and as much as 67% reduction). Georgia will be breaking in two new linemen, another inexperienced linemen on their offense. Yes, they will have their all everything FB, and they have a lights out prospect in Crowell, but they also just lost their two most experienced RBs. Boise State is returning its two-deep front seven with only two losses (the first string DE and the second string MLB). The guy replacing the first string DE had more sacks and TFLs last year than the starter.
Looking more closely at UGA, in their last six games, against Kentucky, GT, Auburn, Florida, Idaho State, and UCF, the Bulldogs only bettered their season average yards per carry in two of those games: Kentucky (4.54 yards per carry) and GT (5.31 yards per carry). But those teams had weak rush defenses, Kentucky at #85 and GT at #78–and UGA actually gained per carry less than the Kentucky season average. Granted Georgia got stiffed by the Auburn and UCF rush defenses, #9 and #8 in the nation last year. Boise State was #7, playing against competition that was approximate to UCF’s.
Looking at the historical data under Coach Pete, looking at the state of Georgia’s big question mark with their running game and offensive line, it doesn’t look like UGA should be expected to achieve its average production from last year. Yes, different teams, different personnel, different time, but the variables seem to favor Boise State. A fair to generous estimate would be to expect a UGA performance of 125-150 total yards rushing, on 35-40 carries, a rushing performance equivalent to their games against Tennessee, or Arkansas, or Florida (#60, #71, and #31 rush defenses last year)”

Are any of those teams SEC teams? No. Like i said before. SEC has speed that kills at every position. You did not prove my statements wrong. You can be big and have speed. They are not fat. They have developed lean mucsle under Coach T. What is BSU’s record against SEC teams? But any team can win at any time. James Madison proved that as well as well as Jacksonville State. As a coach you never place a W on the schedule before the season but sense you have no coaching experience i dont expect you to understand that. Both Peterson ad Richt understand this.

Games aren’t won on stat sheets, they’re won in the weight room and on the field. So post all the stats you want. It won’t guarantee a win for BSU or UGA. I favor UGA not because of their stats but because of the production they’ve made in the weight room.

I love all the analysis! Bottom line is this; its UGA’s game to lose and BSU’s game to win. BSU has a lot riding on this game as far as a NC game arguement along with whoever else they play this year that will be of top 25 caliber, which won’t be more than 1or 2 teams on the schedule. So BSU has to win this game. UGA is looking to regain its pride and swagger that was lost last season.
I do think BSU is a good and talented team that benefits greatly from not having to play the week in/week out schedule that a SEC or ACC team plays.
Also, I am so tired of the “SEC won’t play tough OOC games”. Buddy, the SEC doesn’t play OOC games because it dosen too. With typically 2/3rds of the conference in the consistently in the top 20, we don’t haveto go outside to find quality opponents. We’ve got all we need right here in our own conference.

Georgia in NO way has a chance in this game. Every single position Boise has better players, even Boise’s 2nd 3rd stringers are better than anything uga has.
Boise has more all-americans than any team in the country. THIS WILL BE A WALK IN THE PARK.
uga isn’t even close to VT Oregon or TCU, all which Boise beat. This is gonna be another ugly year for the dawgs and there delusional homer fans that think every year “this year will be different!” haha!
BSU 72-17 uga scores in garbage time with Boise’s 3rd stringers in. yawn…… why couldn’t Boise get a really good team to play them, we have to settle with an unranked 6-7 lose to a CUSA bottom dweller SEC

The sad part about beating UGA this year is that BSU will get criticized because they beat 6-7 team that lost to UCF in a bowl game, then people will complain that UGA lost a couple of good players…I hear the excuse already. Boise State has the better team. They have an excellent experienced QB who can pick apart a defense. Not sure what they have at RB but I would expect somebody who can take care of business. The way our offense played last year was pretty pathetic. I worry about them more than I do the defense. O touchdowns against Central Florida? Really? ZERO? You have Murray and AJ and you can’t get the ball to him?
Our defense will be better in the second year of the 3-4. IMO the D line will be the difference here. If they can get the pressure maybe our D backs can get into position to make a play. Not like last year. Work your arse off to get a third and long only to give up a big first down play.
IMO Boise State will want this game more than we do and that might be the difference. How long has it been since we have wanted a game? Maybe Tech in 2009 and Richt actually had a great game plan and it worked. Boise isn’t Tech though so he better have something better.

Your right BroncoAlum. I was one of those fans. But I foolishly forgot about one of the most important aspects of picking college bowl game winners. That would be motivation. Believe it or not, sometimes theres just not a lot of motivation to put in the work it takes to win your bowl games. UCF had never won a bowl, UGA was playing in the lowliest of bowls after being used to the big stage for 10 years. So who do you think was more motivated to win?
Now, this is the opening game of the regular season. UGA is the “underdog” against the mighty BSU. I wonder if motivation is going to be a problem this time?

Interesting takes on this game…and we’ve only got five and a half weeks before we find out the truth. Not sure if the ‘blues’ posting here are BSers (by that I meant Boise State fans) or just more UGA-haters with, different, assumed names, but regardless you’ve almost got me believing that Georgia doesn’t stand a chance…again, we’ll see, won’t we?
As for home-and-home stuff, the primary point is that no self-respecting program will submit to playing a regular season game on that blue plastic rug – I know, Tech has, but that’s Tech and whatever bowl game they agreed to go to…I mean really folks, hasn’t that ‘gimmick’ run its course? Do you really need that to call attention to yourselves? Unless, of course, is gives you an advantage when you play in those all-blue outfits, against an all-blue background, people can get confused – I know it hurts my eyes just to watch it on TV – which I find myself doing only because I’m waiting for scores scrolling across the bottom of the screen.
This season is damned important to both teams…Georgia’s because of the ‘manufactured’ hot-seat that some have built under Richt…Boise State’s because they are getting more attention and higher pre-season rankings than ever before – at least in my feeble memory. Accordingly, if they should get the snot beat out of ‘em by a Georgia team that lost seven games last year, it will indeed go far to ‘validate’ the ’sisters-of-the-poor’ comment from that idiot at Ohio State and will doom BS’s season even before it gets started good.
Also interesting were the stats posted on those games against the ‘big boys’…I had forgotten the Oregon State game a couple of years back – wonder how that jaw feels now?…gotta tell ya’ if you guys should happen to win this one, don’t, I repeat don’t, get in any Bulldog fan’s face and ‘rag-on him’ like your boy did to the OSU RB that time…trust me on that. As for the other two, no amount of stats will change the fact that you beat Oklahoma on a couple of miracle trick-plays at the end of the game and Va Tech made enough mistakes that they were still countin’ ‘em the next week against an even lesser team than BS. You guys are gonna have to ‘go some’ to pull this one out, and Kellen is gonna have to ‘move or die’…this defense is ready to do some damage and if they can’t against you then we’re in for a long, long, sad season.
Seriously, it will be an interesting game and obviously I’m expecting Georgia to acquit themselves well…then it’ll be on to the ‘real business as hand’ – South Carolina.

@BSU TRUE that my friend was LOL funny…watch in awe!! I’m still chuckling as if playing in a conference that has hoisted the last 6 crystal football you would think we haven’t seen any good team or players…really? Tell Mr.Moore to buckle his chinstrap please.

Sorry about BroncoBlue… the ignorance is not shared throughout the program. We normally pride ourselves on work ethic and modesty…clearly he did not get the memo. I am looking for another high-energy game in less than 40 days and would love to see some hard-nosed football. Good spot-light for both teams and a great way to start the season. Excited and nervous for the big day. I got money on Big Blue but I know it isn’t going to be something to take lightly… this is a talented, young, ambitious group of kids who have every possibility to make head-way this season.
Boise!!!

@Big67Bronco as we get closer to the game the bandwagon fans and the trolls acting like they are UGA fans will get real stupid..it should be a great game between two very good programs. Don’t let the crazies get to you…..I have to tell myself the same thing.

Georgia fans are pretty pathetic when they have to bring up games from the past!!! Past doesn’t matter anymore. We are a much better team and we are gonna show it this September, just you wait. Makes me laugh with all your trash talk…

@Suga slapped a cowboy, @BleedBlue – After reading through the comments, I had forgotten about how worried we were about the great Zabransky and how he was going to pick us apart. It will be interesting to see how this year works out with the great Kellen Moore. Will he avenge Zabransky, or suffer the same horrid fate?

good post indeed. Some of the Georgia fans should respect Boise St football. That doesn’t mean I don’t think we will win, but I do still respect Boise football.Should be a good game
