Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game an official sellout as UGA sells 800 tickets in 2 minutes

Not that it will come as a surprise to anyone, but the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game between Georgia and Boise State officially became a hard sellout on Monday.

The exact time was 9:02 a.m. At 9 sharp, UGA put 800-plus $55 tickets on sell and they were gone two minutes later, according to both Georgia and Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game officials.

That means all 71,228 tickets have been snapped up a month and nine days before kickoff (Sept. 3, 8 p.m.) and Chick-fil-A Bowl President and CEO Gary Stokan is a very happy man.

“One of the things that sold Georgia and [Athletic Director] Greg McGarity on this game was we could give them access to tickets,” Stokan said Monday. “As of today they sold more than 53,000 tickets. I think the majority of their season-ticket holders were able to get access to tickets. That said, I have lists longer than both my arms of people calling me. So it must be a tough ticket if people are already calling me this far out.”

It wasn’t the earliest sellout for the still-relatively-new game. That goes to the 2009 game featuring No. 5 Alabama and No. 7 Virginia Tech, according to Matt Garvey, vice president of communications for the Chick-fil-A Game.

“But nobody has sold as many tickets as Georgia has either,” Stokan pointed out. In the previous three Chick-fil-A Kickoff Games the schools split 31,000 tickets each. Only LSU-North Carolina last year was not a sellout.

“When we put this game together, we went to Boise State and asked them how many tickets they thought they could sell and they said 75-hundred [7,500],” Stokan said. “And then we went to Greg  and asked him what he thought he needed and he said, ‘as many as you have to sell.’ So I think Mark Richt and Greg have done a wonderful job of getting their people excited about this year. I think it’s a credit to the passion of the University of Georgia football fans. That’s what you need to do in a game like this.”

Georgia has sold 53,522 tickets, or approximately of the Georgia Dome’s capacity. Boise State sold out of its allotment a couple of weeks ago. The remainder go to Georgia Dome suiteholders and the Chick-fil-A folks.

Bronco Blue must be a Techie in disguise. I haven’t heard so much talk about which team’s offense gained more yards (but lost the game) since last year’s GA – GA Tech game.

Not to mention the millions watching on national TV. There is a lot riding on this game. But, thank goodness the Puppies have a great freshman recruit team, with the head coach and the freshmen themselves already calling themselves the “Dream Team” — and they have played exactly zero minutes in an SEC game or in a game of this magnitude. Things have changed a lot since I played football.

Wish I could’ve gotten tickets to this game. I tried very hard to. My daughter is in the Redcoat band so I guess I’ll have to hope they show the band on TV.

The sad part about beating UGA this year is that BSU will get criticized because they beat 6-7 team that lost to UCF in a bowl game, then people will complain that UGA lost a couple of good players…I hear the excuse already. The Special Education Conference has some great teams and some great players, but let’s remember that after about the 4th place team in one divisions of the SEC its just another conference.

Now we need to make the Dome the loudest it has ever been and be the 6th man. should be easy since the Falcon fans don’t know how to cheer and this will be home crowd for us.

Bronco-n-DC, no the problem this year is Boise has yearly a 1 or 2 game schedule and in the SEC it is week in and week out. You get beat up during the season and by the end of the season your starting lineup looks nothing like it did at the beginning. Fill you non conference games with SEC teams and see how your season turns out. I wish you would play the original Orange and Blue.

Hate to say it, but the Dawgs are gonna lose.

Our D will be great…until late in the game when they are exhausted from having spent the whole night on the field.

Bobo and his flag-football, sissy screen pass offense will again do nothing…but embarrass…real shame we’re wasting Murray by not bringing in a real OC…just like we wasted AJ for three years…geez…

Bronco-n-DCSpecial Education Conference? Are you freaking kidding me cowboy? The SEC has 2 teams in the prestigious AAU (American Association of Universities) Vandy and UF and probably soon to be UGA. How many does your conference have?

TW have you heard of Joe Tereshinski? You know the hard @$$ strength coach at UGA who is making the Dawgs stronger and able to fiinish all 4 quarters. Yeah he is making sure that the Dawgs D will stay on the field all 4 quarters. So don’t think it will be too easy for BSU.

Bronco-n-DC the sad part is the BSU only schedule’s one tough team a year as if that makes up for their High School schedule. You want respect? Tell your AD instead of moving from the WAC to the MWC he should of moved you guys to the Big Ten or the Big 12. I’m sure they would of accepted you just to shut all your fans up about such a great record you guys have. You guys would still be good in those conferences but not 14-0 each year.

Learned from the UCF game, Jacksonville State, and James Madison. Any team can win on any given day. So, NYBroncoAlum. Don’t think BSU will walk over UGA. Any Coach in college football knows that. Coach Peterson knows that and Coach Richt knows that. It’ll be a close game

Boise State has the better team. They have an excellent experienced QB who can pick apart a defense. Not sure what they have at RB but I would expect somebody who can take care of business. The way our offense played last year was pretty pathetic. I worry about them more than I do the defense. O touchdowns against Central Florida? Really? ZERO? You have Murray and AJ and you can’t get the ball to him?

Our defense will be better in the second year of the 3-4. IMO the D line will be the difference here. If they can get the pressure maybe our D backs can get into position to make a play. Not like last year. Work your arse off to get a third and long only to give up a big first down play.

IMO Boise State will want this game more than we do and that might be the difference. How long has it been since we have wanted a game? Maybe Tech in 2009 and Richt actually had a great game plan and it worked. Boise isn’t Tech though so he better have something better.

To hell with all of this SEC crap. Montana will beat TN. While GA PSP’s are toss and catch, BS is running sophisticated practices remotely supervised to avoid NCAA scrutiny. http://www.idahostatesman.com/2011/07/26/1739183/bsu-safety-iloka-taking-on-leadership.html

I have respect for BSU. They have proven themselves an okay team. IDK if they are great because of their schedule. I just know BSU can compete. Same goes with UGA. Both teams will be ready. “For all you Georgia fans that think you walk over Boise State. I bet you thought the same thing about UCF last year in your bowl game.”

Your right BroncoAlum. I was one of those fans. But I foolishly forgot about one of the most important aspects of picking college bowl game winners. That would be motivation. Believe it or not, sometimes theres just not a lot of motivation to put in the work it takes to win your bowl games. UCF had never won a bowl, UGA was playing in the lowliest of bowls after being used to the big stage for 10 years. So who do you think was more motivated to win?

Now, this is the opening game of the regular season. UGA is the “underdog” against the mighty BSU. I wonder if motivation is going to be a problem this time?

As a Bronco fan, I’m impressed by the level of sportsmanship that is being displayed by Georgia fans on all the blogs. I’m also equally disgusted by our own fans who seem to think they can talk trash about something we haven’t even proven we can do yet. As a former athlete, I believe in talking trash only when you’ve earned the right to talk. Yes, we’ve had great success in the last several years, but we have yet to beat an SEC team. To the Bronco fans…hold your tongue until we’ve proven we can win. It’s your comments that make people hate our team even though I believe we have some of (if not THE) classiest players and coaches in the game today. Good luck to Georgia…it will be a great experience being in the dome to see how it unfolds.

I actually had a soft spot for Boise until they showed up in Athens in 2005 talking smack you wouldn’t believe. It was very gratifying watching Jared Zabranksy sitting on the sidelines with a towel over his head the entire 2nd half as the beatdown continued. 45-19 as I recall.
