Another UGA tailback out; Carlton Thomas suspended at least one game

Athens — There’s another reason Georgia felt the need to move Richard Samuel to tailback. Carlton Thomas is suspended for at least the first game of the season.

The rising junior from Frostproof, Fla., violated team rules back in the spring, three persons familiar with the situation confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. As per Georgia Athletic Association student-athlete policy, Thomas has to sit out 10 percent of scheduled games this season.

The Bulldogs play 12 games this season, including the season opener against Top-10-ranked Boise State in the Georgia Dome. Most recently that has resulted in one-game suspensions, though Georgia Athletic Director Greg McGarity declined to specify.

“If we have any announcements regarding suspensions, they’ll be made at the appropriate time,” said McGarity, declining further comment.

Had Georgia not moved Samuel from linebacker to running back, it would have had only redshirt freshman Ken Malcome and true freshman Isaiah Crowell on scholarship at tailback. Neither, of course, has played in a college game.

Washaun Ealey and Caleb King, Georgia’s top two rushers each of the last two seasons, each have left the program since the end of spring practice.

Thomas (5-foot-7, 175 pounds) has played in 17 games the last two seasons, including one start last season against Colorado. He is the Bulldogs’ leading returning rusher from last season with 272 yards and two touchdowns.

Indications are Thomas’ infraction occurred before Georgia’s announcement this summer that King would be ineligible this season. Interviewed this past Friday, Thomas talked about serving as a leader as the most experienced member of Georgia’s backfield.

“I pretty much take it as I’m the back with the most experience, the most game-time experience, the most knowledge at the position,” Thomas said. “So I take it as a challenge to lead the group. That’s what I try to do every day. I try to be positive, I try to be motivated and try to give them somebody whose going to push them as much as they push me. We’re trying to get the best out of every guy.”

Thomas’s suspension continues an alarming rate of attrition for the running backs under the watch of position coach Bryan McClendon. Ealey was indefinitely suspended and eventually granted an unconditional release due to mutual discontent and King was unable to meet the NCAA’s satisfactory progress rule for fifth-year seniors. Now Thomas has run afoul of team policy.

No specific reason was given for Thomas’ suspension. A 10 percent-competition suspension can be applied for missing excessive academic appointments, arrests or flunking a drug tests. No record of arrests could be found.

Last Thursday, Georgia moved Samuel linebacker back to tailback, where he played his first two seasons. Samuel started six games as a sophomore before falling behind Ealey and King on the depth chart. He moved to linebacker and redshirted last season after a minor knee injury.

This group of RBs has been a dude as well as the O Line. Both need house cleaning with the players and/or coaches. It leaves the team short in a year that Richt needs to go well, but it has to be done. Its time these guys got serious about wearing a Georgia uniform.

The Samuel move makes even more sense now. The only problem is that this puts more pressure on Murray. I think a big component of how well UGA moves the ball downfield will fall to the receivers, so I hope Murray & receiving corps are putting in some extra time practicie on timing routes.

BTW, no one is allowing Murray to ride a scooter this sumer, right?!?

because the running backs coach should be responsible for the running backs. If you got a raise and then started underperforming, your boss/investors would be upset. It’s the same deal. We pay him more, so he should be coaching the backs well enough that they can play when we need them to.

July 18th, 2011
12:27 pm

For the past three seasons we have witnessed a number of great 4 or 5 star high school players sign with UGA, and go on to get in trouble, have academic issues and or run afoul of team rules.

We just had 5 players commit to UGA over the weekend, that is great,, however if the quality of our players do not have character, care about their teammates, their school, or their own personal quality of life then we need to look a little closer at what players we are bringing into our program.

It is very very difficult to change the mental, and social behavior of players who have been put up on pedestals during their high school days. My personal opinion is many of these high school stars are spoiled and they bring that same attitude with them on campus. We need to do a better job of either bringing in quality players or our coaching staff needs to take on the approach that poor behavior, academic shortcomings and not being a productive citizen is the fastest way off the team than not performing on the field.

Not sure I follow the logic of these Auburn fans. A player being suspended a game for his actions (though AJC doesn’t know what those are beyond team rules) does not mean you don’t have a clean program. Actually if you suspend a player for a more impt. game (Boise vs Coastal Carolina), it shows you program has more integrity not less. Not having a clean program is when you lie to the NCAA or when school/boosters pay players.

OH NO! Without Carlton Thomas, who will fumble the ball on the goal line? We are really going to miss that 1-yard per carry production.

Honestly, this is a good thing. The only reason Carlton Thomas has had as many carries as he has is because the coaches reward his hard work. But come on, this is not a good time to put player fairness ahead of rebuilding this running game. The fact is, Carlton Thomas is the least effective back to play for Georgia in a long time, and every down he plays is a lost opportunity to the inexperienced backs who need to get through the learning curve.

The best part about this suspension is that it prevents the coaches from making several bad play calls under the guise of “experience.” With Thomas out of the way, Ken Malcome and Isaiah Crowell will get three to five more carries apiece.

And we aren’t without any experience in the back field now that Richard Samuel is moving back to tailback. It’s not ideal, and he was never that great of a back, but he was never the human waste-of-downs that Carlton Thomas has been.

Given the losses of Ealey and King, we are lucky that Carlton Thomas is not an option for the next back in line. The running game is going to go through some growing pains, but at least the number of carries per inexperienced back will not be diluted by Carlton Thomas. I say, suspend him for two game at least–Make an example of him for violating team rules.

Oh well ............

Depth at UGA is an all time low. UGA fans went from talking about beating Boise, USC, MSU, Fl, Auburn to finding enough men in the “missing man” formation Richt used to get young Crowell to commit. All this worrying and it’s irrelevant. CMR intended to start Crowell from snap #1 this entire time. Hence the lining up 10 players outside his office window and telling him the missing spot is his on opening day.

CMR knows what he has in Crowell, he knows what he has in Malcolm, and he’s happy as a clam that he doesn’t have to deal with Ealey or King anymore. They’re departures were likely planned. And Samuel, believe it or not, is simply depth and short yardage. Crowell is going to top Lattimore’s year, mark it.

Unbelievable!!!!!

I guess that whole “this is a new era and the new UGA atmosphere wasn’t really anything but the usual summer spiin BS. ”

Not to worry though the AJC homers will now get to upgrade the RB outlook to “OUTSTANDING” and Athlons can move the UGA RBs up to #1 in the SEC.

I was only joking earlier about the 150 lb fraternity house running backs which UGA was using during the spring game would not make it against SEC defenses, but that is all that is left?

The UGA offense is going to be worse than even I expected. The UCF debacle looks like a best case scenario at this point.

Beef- You gotta be kidding. Lattimore was a workhorse in HS (over 300 carries a year) and IC averaged about 200. Lattimore was built for the pounding when he arrived and IC is a smaller player. If IC is as good as Lattimore, then the sky is the limit for UGA! But I doubt he is, plus UGA is acknowledged to be weak at OL. SEC was loaded with talented Freshmen RB’s last year ( 3 great backs- SC, Auburn, and Ark) and lightning is not likely to strike twice. Lattimore is a top 3 pick for Heisman! His team fell behind early due to bad play by the QB (think he fumbled 2 or 3 times and threw a INT). We are down to literally no running backs, 5 offensive lineman, no proven recievers, a hope for a better defense, questionable offensive coaching, and a fan base that tolerates more from their team than any other so called major program would! “Crowell is going to top Lattimore’s year, mark it.”

Good lord, just hope this delusion doesn’t lead to fans screaming at Crowell come October when he doesn’t live up to these delusions.

That Lattimore kid is a once in a decade type kid, he apparently arrived at SC as one of the top 5 strongest players on the team. Looking at his history he had started and played at Byrnes High in SC since the 9th grade. Byrnes is a national school who played and beat schools nationwide from Glades in FL, to Evangel Christian, to schools from Ohio to California while Lattimore was in school. In addition they play in the top division of SC football which has produced more D1 prospects that any outside of FL. Gaffney, Spartanburg, Dorman, Summerville(AJ Green played here) and others are just some of the schools which comprise Byrnes opponents.

It is unfair to compare the Crowell kid to Lattimore.

I know you probably go to one or two games a year and sit their all day long and bark like some of your other UGA redneck fans think is cool while everyone( even MSU with their obnoxious cowbells) thinks is just ignorant. Barking….Barking….why not sniff each other…?

Oh well, this is not a reason to panic. I have plenty of faith that Malcolm, Crowell, and Samuel will be ready for Boise State. These guys know what is needed of them, and they will produce a body in the backfield to help take the strain off of Murray. All this boo hooing and whining is amateur and there is not one reason for anyone to get upset. Did y’all really expect Caleb King to run up and down the field on anyone? Cause I sure as hell didn’t. His knowledge of the playbook will be missed, but that is all. Samuel and Malcolm have had a couple years in the program and understand. Crowell will have a couple of months to focus and do what he does best, just making something happen.

Haven’t seen anyone mention the obvious advantage of Samuel coming over from LB. After playing LB for a year he knows exactly what linebackers do and can read blitzes, which makes him way more valuable in protection, plus the guy is one of the strongest and fastest on the team. Kid will get better with every rep and has the body to take a beating. I hope I.C is the real deal too, but everyone calling for him to cary the load from day 1 need to wake up.

The only hope with Brantley was Meyer tried to make him run Tebow’s offense and it failed and Brantley looked horrible. He has all the physical tools to play well but I am afraid his confidence was permenently ruined. If UGA has problems on the perimeter finding Murray a consistent WR to get the ball to then the lack of a strong running game will be very evident. This is the year where having AJ back would have been a godsend.

No downfield passing threat, means the box will be crowded and then it puts that much more pressure on a already suspect OL. The key is getting our passing game off to a fast start. This will be the year UGA must Pass the ball to set up the Run.

Based on Richt’s 10 year track record, and average of almost 10 wins a year, the 6 win season in 2010 was an anomaly. He is much more likely, statistically, to return to the 10 win season, than to have another clunker.

And to the USC poster, asking if a Georgia fan would bet the house UGA would beat Boise and SC, I would ask would you be willing to put your house on the market betting SC beats UGA? Would be a stupid bet either way for a rational person.

“knows exactly what linebackers do and can read blitzes”

Unfortunately it is more important for him to be KNOW the blocking calls from the UGA offense and especially his specific role in blitz pick up not what the linebacker are doing.

It doesn’t matter that he can read the blitz if he rushes to pick up the wrong guy who is already accounted far by a fullback or TE and leaves his assigned man a clear shot at the QB.

There is a reason why freshmen take so long to get their blocking assignments and it isn’t not knowing a blitz in coming.

Having a new OL coach isn’t going to help in this case either.

Well, all I want to know is if our opponents plan to use KY jelly. Heck, there won’t even be a cloud of dust, much less three yards, when we get the ball. Our backfield is thinner than the stuff you make from three-day-old coffee grounds. I got a 17 year old that plays running back pretty good, but I want him to go to college, not UGA. He’s a smart guy.

So I plan on closing my eyes on running plays and looking up after the play is over. This Murray kid better throw for about 21,000 yards this season. It’s the only way we’re going to move the ball.

Auburn has boosters, alumni and staff that are dirty. UGA doesn’t do that. It is difficult to control what these teenagers do.

What this makes you wonder about UGA is whether they can generate any team cohesion. Do none of these kids care about being Bulldogs?

Maybe theres something to be said about oversigning! At the rate we’ve been losing running backs and offensive lineman, we may need to sign 50 players per year. No need to worry about gray shirts, red shirts, or black and blue shirts.

A few weeks ago, UGA had King, Washburn, Thomas and incoming Cowell as potential rbs. Now we have Samuels,Malcome & incoming Cowell as potential rbs., so what have we lost? A good thing about the lost rbs is they should not be missed. The only good game the Washburn and King played was Tech two years ago. Given Thomas’ size I thought he was a special situation back where his size & speed would be an advantage, not a back for that “got to have” 3rd down or 4th down and 1 yard situation. King was suppose to be the best blocker something Washburn never learned to do. Seems to me UGA should simplify the rbs position or recuit better rbs or both.

According to my numbers UGA currently has about 75 players on scholarship. At the current rate of attrition and injury I figure UGA is going to have about 65 players available to play in the season opener. Does any sane Dawg fan think we can manage this schedule with 60 of 65 scholarship players? College football in a numbers game and our numbers are the worst in the league! All Dawgs fans need to realize this and come join the rest of us on planet earth. There is NO SEC Championship in the near future and I think that is fine with Adams who has hired another puppet in McGarity. UGA is now mediocre or below average in all men’s major sports. Name the last NC UGA has held in any men’s major sports??? Who out there can guess that horrible UGA trivia correct?

I have been warning you all along about the running backs. These boys cannot stay in school. I don’t carry a wallet but if I did I would not leave it anywhere around where one of our running backs could find it. UGA used to be the place for running backs but now our running backs feel most comfortable in the Clarke County Jail. A fair question from Richt’s lovers,

You ask where his leadership is? I think with this one game suspension you found out where it is. This kid will either follow the rules or sit out a lot more games if need be. That is leadership, but I guess you are from another school and don’t get it.
It is not like UGA was counting on him being a game breaker. 4-5 carries a game, and I am sure they didn’t count on him for on field leadership. UGA’s running game will not suffer from a 1 game suspension. If the kid has his head on right, he will not suffer either and will learn his lesson.

The 2011 schedule for UGA is the easiest it has been in years and yet UGA will trod along, lose the first two games, and the UGA fan base will be calling for Richt, Bobo’s head just like they did after the Colorado, MSU, UCF’s games last year.

Die hard Georgia fan here, and I also believe the barking by most fans is retarded outside of the kickoff chants. Georgia does have a lot of lower level intelligence and lower moral fans, and it shows as they are the ones barking at everything, and bringing down an otherwise respectful fan base. I did not attend Georgia, but I have pulled for them since I was five years old. I also understand Georgia is a state school, and that anyone and everyone will claim to be a fan, but it’s the ones that respect the school and treat others with respect that are the true fans. But Auburn, Florida, and South Carolina fans have no room to talk about being respectful. Ole Miss is the only school I have been to a game at where the fans were genuinely nice and cared about treating other fans nicely every single time.

Well say that then, instead of being ‘ Born and Bred to bark’..that was just stupid.

Now onto my Auburn Tigers.

I am not stupid, I have read the articles, know an investigation is going on. If we did anything wrong then I will be the first in line to say the title goes back, the championship is removed from the record books. I want to see these 4 players go to jail for robbing fellow Auburn Students and I believe in getting one chance to do it right then you are done. The players at every school are ambassadors for our schools and if they embarrass our schools they need to be dealt with publicly just as they publicly did it to the school.

I do not agree with the way things are done at Auburn and never will as long as Bobby Lowder or his cronies are running things. As a graduate from many many years ago, I have seen the problems that take place when a core group of alumni treat the program as a semi pro team and they are the owners, general managers of it. It is not good for any school when that happens.

I will take the punishment if it is ever handed out, but as of today it is all rumors we live with daily and that is all it is.

It is just a break today from all the Auburn bashing when UGA or the Updykes get into issues that affect their program.

I mean no ill will toward anyone, it was all in fun.

However the barking at injured players did occur at The Outback bowl and I was at the Sugar Bowl for UGA’s title and there was no barking back then.

I was embarrassed when our folks turned the Hoses on UGA fans a few years back and that was unacceptable as well.

So, let me see if I have this right. CMR doesn’t control his team. No wait, make that CMR is a bad coach because he suspends players for not doing what is required of them. Where in any rule book does it say, that the football coach will babysit these players and make them attend class, have a valid drivers license or any of the other things some of the players did? Don’t give me that crap that it is the players UGA recruits when most of the other schools tried to recruit them as well and lost out to UGA. I know some other schools hide their players misdeeds a little better, but CMR doesn’t. I guess in some peoples minds, this makes him a lousy coach. Maybe some of you would prefer we go the route of Miami, or even end up a year later on the NCAA radar, like the Lily of the Valley’s school does. Yes, UGA wound up winning the mythical Fulmer cup with a total of 21 points last year. Already this year, Auburn has 81 and Florida has 15, and FSU has 8 and a few other schools will soon pass what UGA had for the whole year. Does this make these leaders or their schools coaches bad and inadquate people? UGA is making sure that these players follow the rules and CMR should be commended for that, not put down. Every school has discipline problems, it is just how well they chose to punish them. CMR is sending a clear message out to the players, to either conform to the rules or ride the pine for however long is neccesary. Blame him if you wish, but I respect him a lot more for doing that, than say a coach of another team, that let’s a guy get into trouble 5 different times with civil as well as team violations and he still chooses him over someone else, because his wins are more valuable than team integrity. If enough players ride the pine, it will sink in and UGA will be a better team for it.

But in the large scheme of things UGA has always been just a slightly above average program in the 3 men’s major sports for countless decades. We are no major player like an Alabama. It’s just in the past 10 years we have won a few SEC titles and our new alumni base expects us to win every year. It’s just not a goal or our AD or Adams. They are fine with mediocrity so all UGA fans should be as well. Our new alumni need to check our records prior to 1980 as well. We stunk most of the time in the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s.

@Tiger in the Valley well spoken about the Lowder gang..personally I hope nothing is found its bad for the SEC and college football. However I was a fan back before 1980 and we did bark, however I think its done more now. In fact I remember us on the tracks when Bear Byant and Bama was getting off the team bus in the early-mid 70’s and barking our heads off at them.

Red and Black, all some of us are saying is that maybe this “toughness” should have been on display a few years back. Not only are the players “accountable” to the head man, but so are the coaches. This has been a loose ship, with a damaged rudder for quite a while now, if you doubt, or don’t see this, then you sir, have been blinded by the kool aid. Maybe the rudder has been repaired, we will give the man a fair chance and wait and see. But we won’t sit idly by while the “tap” remains open.

Thanks.. i hope anyone who enters our stadium is treated fairly and the hospitatilty is exchanged annually.

Let me say this, I want these kids to all graduate first, do well on the field second, but without their degrees any kid who plays 4 or 5 years and leaves school without a degree is a burden on our society. They all need to enter school, earn a degree and leave a better person than when they arrived. A degree will do much more for them than scoring 10 touchdowns 25 years from now.

As for The Newtons, yeah Cam was a special player, who had a ton of baggage, and Cecil is just one of those Ministers who anyone meets and knows right away something is not quite right. You cannot put your finger on it but you just sense it. I know as an Auburn fan that players or players parents do not ask for money from one school and not ask for it at other schools. Anyone who thinks that needs help and is too close to your program to see the entire picture.. Our history alone says we have done this same thing in the past, why not now? I guess we will have to wait and see.

One question making the rounds down here;

Has anyone else heard your big DT Jenkins was interviewed by the NCAA for his recruitment to Auburn? That is the latest and greatest rumor down here. Someone says that we offered him money to attend Auburn and he reported it to the NCAA. Just asking.

SCFAN

There is a reason SOS has reinstated Garcia 6 times.

Connor shaw plays as the starter and you won’t win 8 games

He was responsible for the 1st Auburn loss last year.

SOS putting him in the game lost that game and SOS pulling his “I’m Steve Spurrier and you’re not” antics lost the UK game with Garcia throwing that last pass in the endzone.

If Garcia doesn’t get his act together, defenses will key on Lattimore and your brightest most optimistic season ever goes down the tubes.

I have a couple of sources close to the heart of the UGA program but honestly don’t get together with them but once every few months in a business environment. As we grow older our lives and situations change, the things that used to be really important, not as much now. I worry more about where our country is headed than our program. Just as vocal there by the way.

I share your views on what we wish for the youth of our country, those on and off the field. It seems we continue to go in the opposite direction of where we need to be heading, my perception.

Spurrier’s been a good coach over the years. His achilles heel may be his emotion and temperment. He might be just a little quick on the trigger when he yanks a guy. I think the outcome of two games could have been different had he “dressed down” Garcia for his mistakes, vs pulling him. I could be wrong, he makes the big bucks.

Thanks to the players that go to the school because of their love for the university and ones that want to carry on tradition. Just wondering because after reading a techie rambling about how this is not our year (or some such dreck), I went onto the Tech blog to say something and there were a total of 4 comments on a page that was half a day old. What’s up with that? I didn’t put anything on their blog because somehow it felt stupid and dorkish of me to inject a comment into their horrible little world. I continue to be bullish about the defense this year. If they do as good a job at stopping teams and creating turnovers as I think they can, the offense will not have to outscore everyone this year. That should give our offense a short field to work with on a consistent basis and this offense, even with the shortage of backs, should be able to score a couple of touchdowns and our special teams can do the rest. It aint over, I still think the SEC East is ours to take.

To the poster asking about the DT Jenkins that UGA signed. Yes it has been reported throughout Mississippi that he has spoken with the NCAA about his recruitment to Auburn and his uncle apparently also spoke with the NCAA to verify what his nephew had talked to him about once he got back from his visit to Auburn.

Is it true he spoke to the NCAA who knows.

The second thing is now the NCAA has told LSU not to make any more public statements about Willie Lyles and his recruiting packages. They are now looking into Auburn and what he provided them in the forms of recruiting packages.

Just a little information.

Thiese things happen because big time college football is nothing more than semi-pro ball for the NFL with the NFL getting a pass. The NFL should be giving money to the NCAA to be diastributed to the players for some living expenses. These guys are not amateurs and this is why you see all these problems. They need some spending cash and get wrapped up in all the stupid NCAA rules.. Very unusual for college freshmen these days but it is a cautionary tale expecting Crowell to come in an be the “next Lattimore, Dyar or Hershel”.

Secondly, we can always run Rantavious up the middle on third and long, so no big deal. There was 3 coaches that should be replaced or moved to positions that they can handle. I have been saying it for a couple of years now and my point is proven over and over by them not handling their responsibilities.
1- Bobo should be QB coach and co- head recruiter but he can not keep up with everything that the offensive coordinator has to do. He seems lost on the field especially when it is a close game when a lot of pressure is on him. He has proven that he doesn’t know what to do as offensive coordinator. Example is the entire backfield last year has left or has gotten into some trouble. The offensive line was the weakest in 2010 than I have ever seen at Georgia and I have been following Georgia since I went to school there in the 70’s.
2-McClendon has no business being running back coach. He has been more of a friend than a mentor and coach to the running backs.” Somebody in the family has to be the disciplinarian” . He let Ealey do whatever he wanted and when he wanted to do it. King was always border line academically and didn’t get any help and now Smith got out of line. McClendon was given one of the most important jobs on any SEC team way too early. He needed at least 3 to 5 more years experience before being given the running back coach job.
3- Gardner needs help as head recruiting coordinator. . Either he needs to be replaced or we need a co-head recruiter to help him out. We lose way to many top recruits that live in Georgia to other states where they didn’t even consider Georgia in the first place. I don’t mine a top recruit going somewhere else if he fits in better there but when they don’t even consider Georgia because Georgia wasn’t pursuing them is a problem with the recruiting coordinator. He has become complacent and lazy .
CMR needs to stop filling jobs with under qualified people with the idea they can learn on the job. That may work in Jr. College or a less demanding conference but not the SEC.

Tara – It is a long story. Some of these kids were catered to in high school. Coaches begged them to come to practice. They have no idea of what a work ethic is or to just do the right thing. Remember it is not all kids but it always seems to be the skill position kids. Very few lineman, linebackers, kickers, or punters are ever in trouble.

Here’s some Lattimore/Crowell comparisons that should open some eyes:

Lattimore is 6′1″ 220 lbs, a 4-down back, more of a downhill runner with about 4.5 speed.
Crowell is 6′0″ 210 lbs, a 3-down back, ellusive sideline to sideline runner with about 4.35 speed.
Both of them bench and squat nearly the exact same weight (about 300/450 respectively).

Lattimore had 442 MORE carries than Crowell in 3 years (missing 2 games from injury), but only 1,400 more yards. A 7.1/YPC average.
Crowell had only 407 total carries, but an 11.5/YPC average in 3 years (missing 4 games from injury).

Lattimore had 1160 receiving yards and 9 TD’s on 99 receptions, an 11.7/YPR average.
Crowell had 1320 receiving yards and 11 TD’s on 96 receptions, a 13.75/YPR average.

Lattimore had 95 total TD’s in 3 years (including receptions) on 948 touches, an average of 1 TD every 10 touches.
Crowell had 69 total TD’s in 3 years on 503 touches, an average of 1 TD every 7.2 touches.

I don’t care what you think, Crowell will be played as a 3-down back, which will save him on durability, and could be just as, or even more productive than Lattimore.

A fish rots from the Head Down.. And this Big Fish at UGA has been stinking for awhile. When a team lacks leadership from the top, it runs all the way to the bottom. Mark Richt, it is time to move on my friend. You have not lead this team in the past 7 years. In the SEC it takes talent and discipline, Georgia has had the talent but is only behind Southern Florida in arrest and suspensions. Our players have no respect for University System, UGA, the heritage of our team and for basis rules and regulation. Bobo and Richt need to find a new place to lead like in the ACC to fit their personality because it just does NOT fit in the SEC.. Enough is enough..

None of this would have happened if I were hired this year. No one watching Ealey. No one on top of Kings summer school studies. How many assistants and coaches are in that program? Im sorry to my dawg family but Richt will play Samual out of loyalty and sit Crowell just like he did with Thomas Brown and Knowshon. Its going to be a rough year. “Hey Beef..past history does not guarantee future performance.”

Bob, all I was doing is replying to someone who said that Crowell doesn’t come close to comparing to Lattimore in high school. But fact is, he most certainly does.

2-AAA in GA is not that far from 4-AAAA in SC. And there is a huge difference between 7.1/YPC vs. 11.5/YPC.

These kids simply play different styles of football. Crowell will surely get less snaps, but that’s fine. Samuel, Thomas, and Malcolm will play their roles in short yardage and change-of-pace. In the end, it’s very possible that Crowell does for UGA what Lattimore did for SC, but just differently.

I may be one of the few who believe’s Samuel’s return to running back is a positive move. He’s a better back than either King or Ealey. He’s larger and can block and survive the bruising of running the ball in the SEC. I think our chances of winning the East just went up. Unfortunately, there are still three West division teams better than us–Alabama, LSU, and Arkansas and we’ll see one of them in the championship game.

While the Dawgs are stumbling out of the starters gate, the GSU Eagles will attempt to improve on its national semifinal showing of last year. I wish UGA the best, or at least better than what you have right now. You guys have some serious issues and those problems keep getting worse and worse and worse. Oh, and Tech fans, wipe that silly grin off your faces. You have serious issues too. UGA has way less “issues” than you think. The depth of the OLine is pretty much the ONLY thing you can consider an issue, but even then, it’s far less a problem than people are making it out to be. 2 of the guys on the OL will be 1st round draft picks in next year’s NFL draft for goodness sakes.

Crowell was going to start no matter if Ealey or King were still here. And the locker room is a much happier place without them now anyways. Crowell, Samuel, Thomas, and Malcolm, with Figgins and Ogletree, are an incredible RB/FB corps.

The depth we have at QB is unmatched anywhere in the country.

We have the best TE in the country and three WR’s who can run 4.3-4.4 speed, one of which is 6′5″ who was a 5-star WR and is emerging from AJ’s shadow finally.

Our 2 NT’s are 6′5″ 350 lbs EACH and our 2 DT/DE’s are 6′3″ 305 lbs each. All of our OLB’s at 4.5 speed at 245 lbs and our ILB’s are nearly the size of NFL DE’s at 6′4″ 255 lbs.

Our secondary has 3 guys who can run 4.3 or faster, one of which is 6′2″ 210 lbs. The other leads the SEC in kick return yardage and TD’s as a sophmore (going to be junior this year – Boykin).

People can cry all they want and haters can hate all they want, but when we’re 2-0 and moved into the top 10, a lot of people will be eating crow.

I showed you the stats between Lattimore vs. Crowell. 7.1 YPC vs. 11.5 YPC. 1 TD every 10 touches vs. 1 TD every 7 touches.

YPC is and always has been the most significant stat used to guage a RB. It’s completely reasonable to think that Crowell could do for UGA what Lattimore did for SC in his first year. The fact you refuse to acknowledge that and act like it’s not possible shows you’re just ignorant and spewing biased and irrational opinion and nothing else.

Cover-up conspiracy, not at Georgia tek, but at UGA in football. This is what this story about Carlton Thomas tells us very plainly and extremely precisely. We are holding damaging information from our teammates and from our fans.

There are those who point to some date last year as the date on which the last Bulldog was arrested. And, while that is understandable that we mark that date, there is still this steady stream of lost Bulldogs. Lost for suspensions and lost for far more than that : Gone from the team.

What difference does it make, given that we have the same 85 scholarships to dole out as every other football program, whether the game one of our Bulldogs cannot play in is due to arrest or whether it is yet another game one of our Bulldogs cannot play in due to transfer, injury, or being kicked off the team ?

I submit it makes no difference. The game will not be played by the player. Culminating in the destruction further of the morale of this football program. Morale of the players and morale of the fans. Yes, obviously, there are those with their heads buried in the sand who sit wiggle and dream up Kool-Aid to share with all that all is well in this, the best of all possible worlds. Is it ? Who indeed are the offensive linemen, who are the tailbacks, who are the fullbacks, who are the wide receivers, and who in the world are any of the secondary on this team ?

Isolated, they surmise, that guy was a cancer to the team and good riddance. After 1 then another then 10 in total in a year now, and that rings so shallow now. The effects so clear to all but they. And one must wonder are they really able to tell themselves that all is well for a team that is not just 14-12 over the last two seasons, not just 13-12 over the last 5 seasons against our own weak Division of our Conference, not just 21 Losses these last 5 years which are 2 more Losses than Jim Donnan lost in his 5 years here too. That all is well because Scout.com ranked our recruiting class # 6 for 2011 just joining the team ? This recruiting class is no different from any other Mark Richt recruiting class of the 11 classes he has already brought in here : The average is # 7 for all 11 classes averaging both Scout.com and Rivals all 11 years. How again is being # 6 in Scout.com any different whatsoever from all 11 recruiting classes ? I must have missed that.

Savior.

The devastating affect from all these players who cannot play in a game grows daily.

It is not like we have some star remaining who will save our bacon. We don’t. Aaron Murray, for all he did to be our best football player all season long last year, went 0-5 vs the 5 teams who ended up in the AP Poll Top 25. He also threw only 5 TD passes against those 5 teams. He threw 19 TD passes against the 8 teams he played who did not end up in the AP Poll Top 25, and he lost 2 of those Starts of his. He was but # 72 in the nation in making 1st Downs last season. You will have a seriously hard time convincing me that that is great. # 55 Total Offense and # 56 at 3rd Down Conversions, now he has no tailbacks, fullbacks, wide receivers, offensive linemen and no secondary.

What more can 1 man do ?

On a side note, the AJ-C from November 11, 2009 until July 14, 2011 could not uncover 1 single item of news about the Georgia institute of technology and their resultant now PROBATION for 4 years in Football, again for Georgia tek; but can determine that Carlton Thomas is SUSPENDED for Boise State ?

AJ-C, I mean really.

Mark Richt, did you purposely hide the fact that Carlton Thomas is SUSPENDED for the Boise State game from us all in some attempt to COVER-UP and make things seem so rosy ? Or, sir, do you believe that we are in such a funk with but 3 wins and 9 losses all 10 years previously with you sir against teams who ended up in the AP Poll Top 10 and 10 more losses these 10 years to teams who did not even end up in the AP Poll Top 25 and # 2 in the Fulmer Cup All-Time in your regime Mark Richt, sir, that you must treat us all like mushrooms and keep us in the Dark and Feed us …

Well, I guess that Bobo won’t be able to send the midget up the middle into the mouth of the defensive line every second and ten. What will he do now? Oh yeah. Now he’ll just pass every down…

You can’t make this stuff up. All for just three million a year.

Richt is the issue here. He’s gotta go and the sooner the better…

WTF??????? Another player violation….as Gomer Pyle would say SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE!!!!!!!!!!!!! They may as well do away with college football ALL TOGETHER and just let these criminals go straight to the NFL. If Coach Richt can’t find any better caliber players than this it’s time to just shut the whole program down and start over and I mean NCAA Football program. These guys think they are so special, and they are till they get to college then they think they can do no wrong. The BIGGEST WRONG they are doing is letting the school and the fans down but they are so self centered they couldn’t care less. It’s the ME, ME, ME attitude. Look at me look at me, and I, I, I did this I did that! There isn’t any team in their minds any longer. Without the TEAM they could NEVER do as well as they do. It’s the team effort NOT the Individual!!!!!!!!!!

Ealey, King, and now Thomas. Another nail in the coffin of CMR who is in his last season in Athens. A 7-5 season will not save his job. Boise, S. Carolina, Florida, Missy St., and Auburn. There are your 5 losses, and that does not include the yearly upset which will come from either Kentucky, Tennessee, Vandy, or GT. All that talent wasted again.

The only question is…..What is Mike Bobo going to call on 3rd and long now that he can’t run Thomas up the middle?

A few good runs by Crowell and those three will be forgotten or A bad running effort the first game and everyone will be screaming for Richt’s head for not planning the situation better. Same senerio as the season record. A good start and they could go 10-2 or a bad 0-2 start and struggle to be a .500 team. Anyone out their going to watch the Boise ST. game Hmmmmm ?

Doesn’t much matter who Georgia has in the backfield. Broncos win either way. Interesting how a teams character shows up before they take the field.

Ned a runningback how about the other olgtree brother, Zander. Good hands out of the back field and runs north and south. Just a thought.

Actually you won’t see Brandon Smith on the offensive side of the ball much. Richt allowed Smith and Crowell to wear #1. Meaning they can’t be on the field at the same time.

Red and Black, and I seriously don’t care what you think. Just FYI, “kool aid”, and “rose colored glasses” aren’t childish at all. They are words, phrases, that are used by professionals educated in the art of counseling people “exactly” like you. People that are confused by reality and choose to live in a fantasy world, thus their blurred vision, denial of factual accuracy, and reality, are described as “drinking kool aid” or viewing the world through “rose colored glasses”. If you are offended or aggravated by my observations and comments that CMR hasn’t come close to “earning” the $3 million a year he’s being paid over the last few years that’s your problem.

Seriously, all the facts have been laid out for you, either you drink the kool aid, or wear the rose colored glasses, and ignore the facts, or, you’re just plain ignorant. Either way, I’m through responding to you.

Mobile Dawg,

I could care less about what you think about me, UGA or anybody else for that matter. When you act like an adult and can quit calling people names, perhaps then you will have some credibility in my mind. Childish remarks really only irritate me, not make me respect your opinions on matters concerning UGA.
As for your professional crap about what Kool Aid or rose colored glasses, mena and you opinion that professional’s use those phrases to counsel people such as I, get a life bud. Professional’s also have anmae for people who think they have the right to judge others and insinuate that if, they do not agree with another person, they are wrong and living in a fantasy world. It is called, close minded. That is your opinion and you are intitled to it. When you start making remarks about others, using those terms, you show your lack of maturity. I don’t care how old you are, mental maturity is something you grow into, not chronologically, just because you are at a certain age. Respect, is something you earn by showing that you have matured enough, not to accuse other people you know nothing about, of somehow, being less than smart by supporting thier beliefs.
I will put my education up to yours anyday of the week, so don’t try calling me ignorant. I am simply a loyal fan that realizes the ship has never sailed that will not encounter a storm or two in it’s lifetime.

Talking about maturity, or lack of, maybe you should go back and read your posts. I didn’t start this little feud with you, I believe you called me out, called me a fair weather fan, etc. I have simply expressed my opinion on the issues within our program. There are many positives, but there have also been many concerns. Mostly with coaching, lack of discipline, and numerous others.

Most times I’m highly respectful of people like you, and your opinions. Your last post is condesending, disrespectful, and you are brow beating me like I’m a red headed step child. Is that maturity. Basically I either talk facts, or my opinion, and for the most part they are “right on the money”.

And if you think that to be a “true fan” you can’t differentiate between the program, and the coach, that both have to be supported as one, well, let me ask you, what kind of person does that make you? Your problem appears to be that you can’t stand to be disagreed with, you have to be right, just my opinion.

And to go on the record again, I hope CMR succeeds, but if the problems that have reared their heads over the last 5 years continue, then he needs to go. Unfortunately for him, the qualifications for his position have changed since he hired on, other coaches and programs have raised the bar significantly, and if you think he has succeeded in meeting those challenges, then you are apparently happy to accept the program in it’s current state.

If you read my post on the “ignorant” statement, I didn’t call you ignorant. I left the door open for you to decide. And again, why do you deny the professional use of those phrases? Have a good day Red and Black. I haven’t once heard CMR take responsibility for the state of affairs in Athens. If you think for a second that CMR just encountered a storm, will you at least admit that he’s responsible for allowing the conditions to develop that led to the storm. In life you have a lot of different kind of people, some people need to be pushed a little to ensure they do the right thing. People like me who are applying the pressure to Mark Richt are necessary for accountability. Last but not least, you’re calling out the wrong guy, I’ve “NEVER” uttered the words, or written them that he should have been “fired”. If you can prove me wrong, do it.

taking as lot of time defending yourself there Mobile. Must have called you out on the right things. Like I said, you have your opinion and I have mine. The games will start in 6 weeks and then we shall see. I don’t have the time to worry about your half page rants denying you did this or that. I don’t know you so I really don’t care what you think.

Carlton is I think only officially suspended for the Boise State game right now. If he comes back in week two, we are still the same. 4 scholarship RB’s right now on the roster with the first game, having only three available.
