Dawg Night ended up being a big night for the Georgia Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs’ annual elite prospect camp netted five commitments on Friday, including a pledge from five-star-rated offensive tackle John Theus of Jacksonville for the Class of 2012.
Theus (6-6, 292) was a huge pickup for the Bulldogs. He’s rated top among the top three tackles in the nation by both Scout and Rivals. His brother Nathan Theus is a freshman long snapper who will be starting his UGA career this fall. Theus chose the Bulldogs over Florida and Texas. He becomes the 11th committed member of the Class of 2012.
The AJC confirmed three other commitments for Class of 2013 prospects: Quarterback Brice Ramsey of Camden County (6-3, 197); running back Derrick Henry (6-3, 225) of Yulee, Fla.; and athlete Tramel Terry (5-11, 173) of Goose Creek, S.C.
Rusty Mansell, who covers recruiting for 247Sports.com and Dawgs247.com, reported that Stanley Williams, a 2014 running back from Appalachee High in Bethelem, also committed to the Bulldogs.
Ramsey’s commitment is particularly important since Georgia is not going to sign a quarterback in the Class of 2012. Ramsey is generally considered the state’s top signalcaller in his class.
“I certainly felt like Brice was leaning that way for a long time,” Camden County coach Jeff Herron said. “He has been to Georgia camp several times. He really has a lot of respect for Coach Richt and Coach Bobo has a built a great relationship with them. I felt he was leaning toward Georgia, even though he was getting pressed when he went to Florida this summer, along with Florida State and Clemson. I felt like has always talked about Georgia differently.
“He called me tonight and said, ‘Look, Coach, I want to go ahead make it official.’ I said, ‘I certainly don’t have a problem with that Brice. Congratulations.’”
AJC recruiting reporter Michael Carvell will have more later on all these recruiting developments.

Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry or simply Hogwarts is the primary setting for the first six books of the Harry Potter series by J. K. What is amazing is the dawgs pulled a guy for the 2014 class he must be special to have an offer at this point let along to go ahead and, commit on the spot. Most people that follow recruiting have never heard of the young man to begin with. Look for Foster to be next for the 13 class according to an interview the commits for that class have already started working on him

In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2005) Ron, who has grown taller over the summer, attracts the attention of Lavender Brown. Harry, the new Quidditch Captain, picks Ron to continue as Keeper for the Gryffindor Quidditch team, over competing candidate Cormac McLaggen who is equally-skilled but has difficulty with teamwork and following orders.[HBP Ch.11] Upon learning Hermione most likely had kissed Viktor Krum, Ron performs increasingly badly at Quidditch, and thrown off by jealousy of his former idol, becomes unkind to Hermione. His low self-esteem is not helped much by his younger sister, Ginny Weasley, who after Ron reacts badly to finding her kissing her boyfriend, throws in the fact that of those in the group, Ron is the only one who has never had his first kiss.

Michael Carville said, 3. It will be a good “Dawg Night” if … ?
“It will be a good Dawg Night if they make a big push for elite linebackers (Jenkins, Whitehead, 2013 LB Reuben Foster of Troup County) , John Theus continues to connect with new UGA OL coach Will Friend, and they make a solid impression on the 2013 trio of Camden County QB Brice Ramsey, Yulee (Fla.) RB Derrick Henry, and Goose Creek (S.C.) WR/DB Tramel Terry. The three have become close friends, and will push for top prospect status in their respective states.”

Spike 80DF,
Don’t even waste your time with that fool. He lets his (obvious) agenda get in the way of reality. I’ll trust the opinions of every scout for Rivals, Scout, ESPN, and oh yeah, my own two eyes. Theus is a stud and, besides Keith Marshall, was the priority for this class for Richt and UGA. Dunker, Young, and Humphries are great, and UGA could take them if they could get them, but you can’t get them all. UGA really wants Young, but that is something to worry about another day. Today was great.
Tide Roll,
3 of the 5 players UGA got commitments from tonight were your “type” of players. Shouldn’t you be happy about that?

Geat job UGA. Welcome to UGA guys.
To all the HATERS: UGA is in great hands and we will have great recruits whether they commit in April, May or February 2012. UGA is on the way up to a National Championship and it started January 2011. We regrouped and thanks to the man that Mark Richt is, UGA get many more recruits than otherwise would come to UGA. We cant sign EVERY player but we sign ALMOST everyone we REALLY REALLY WANT. So to all you that get all hysterical when UGA doesnt sign some in-state players or dont sign any for a couple weeks while other schools do or are not really interested in some: DONT GET YOUR PANTIES IN A WAD LITTLE GIRLS! Everything is under control. Just not yours and you cant handle that. You do NOt KNOW that is going on. 90% of recruiting is not made public and certainly the recruiting plan of UGA or any other school. You peek in your xmas presents too? It is all going to be OK. So support your coach and school now or do NOT when we win the SEC and play for the national championship OK? Dont jump on the Richt bandwagon when we win 11 or more games. You losers suck.

Nash…I covered 5 of Stanley Williams (2014 RB commit from Apalachee) last year as part of my free-lance gig, and he is electrifying. He’s a smaller back (but in his defense he was a freshman) but he has breakaway speed (a la Tron Jackson) and moves reminiscent of (and pardon the hyperbole) Barry Sanders. That said I’m surprised at such an early commitment, but based on what I saw last year, I’m glad we got him.

Take that UF. Lost on Brice and Theus and Henry because we are UGA and you are not! EVERYBODY wanted all 3 of them, especially Henry. Terry can play WR or CB. Sorry SC you were his leader, sorry Clemson and Bama. Brice’s coach says it is like God gave him all the tools to be a QB. ALL the tools…Another 1st pick in the draft and a national championship caliber QB to make that run like we did with Stafford but the BCS picked LSU over us so we just had to go thrash Hawaii….
Stanley Williams 2nd game in High school as a FRESHMAN on the varsity team last year…..
Williams rushed for 262 yards on 15 carries (17.5 yards per carry) and two touchdowns. He also had 73 yards on kickoff returns. Against a defense that had not given up a point all year….he can score from ANYWHERE….
One of the greatest days ever in UGA recruiting. All these guys are here for one thing…to play together and win SEC championships. These guys are ALL STUDS! And they are DAWGS!
Good article on dawgpost too.

Nice commits? The QB is DEFINATELY the top QB coming out no matter the class he would be in. The RB’s are AWESOME! The OL is top 3 at his position in the nation! Everybody wanted all of them including Terry who can play both sides. People there may have NEVER in UGA history been a better day of recruting. EVERYBODY wanted these guys and they are elite at their positions.
Brice may make Stafford look like a division 2 QB when he gets here. I told all of you in January, The DAWG has turned.
I have been watching too long and have gained some wisdom over the years OK.
UGA just needed a down year to regroup and refocus and make some changes like the new DC. We had the RIGHT and BEST man to get us through this and he HAS someone on his side when he needs him most….God Almighty. You reap what you sow and Richt has sown well and when the times are tough, he will, like Moses, get us to the promise land!
Dont be like the Israelites and forget what we have been through, the victories, the championships. Stop whining Israelites, have faith.. It will all be OK. See tonight as an example. We just picked up 5 4 and 5 star players who everyone wanted but they came to where? UGA. It is going to be OK.
They are all AWESOME players the type that win Championships to go along with the players we already have! Thank GOD Richt was not fired in a panic of whining so-called Dawgs. The Dawg has turned.
You bunch of Israelites stop whining and get with the program. Have faith baby! See the big picture. Not the trees of last year but the forest that is beyond.
We knew the year before last was going to suck without Stafford and Moreno and then last year a new DC and QB and not stud at running back. There will be Valleys but we have a coach that will get us through and we will be stronger for it men.
It is a GREAT time to be A DAWG. Richt will retire as the Dog’s coach in another 20 years if he chooses to coach that long but in the meantime, keep the faith and do not panic because there will be good years but also a bad year here and there but overall it will be good years and several SPECIAL years in the next 10!
We are about to start dominating the SEC. We will improve the next 2 years significantly in 2012 and then after that we will be like UF in the 90’s and before Tebow left but maybe even stronger EVERY year. Seriously. I have watched all this for 30 years and UGA is in a better place for the next 6 years and beyond then ANY team I have ever seen after these recruits tonight and the best thing is, they are MORE to come.
And I have ALL the faith in the world that Coach Richt will get the players at the postions we need. He has friends in high places…..the BEST places and the special players respect him and we get so many we NEVER would have gotten if not because of him. Appreciate your coach. You have NEVER had a better one at UGA. NEVER…..

Columbus……Take what?????????
Yes, Florida made a push for Theus….but he was always a Dawg. Everyone knew that. He is going to be a really good player for you guys.
But Florida isn’t running scared, dude. They have a commitment already from OT, Jassamen Dunker…and he is just as good as Theus. Humphries may commit at Friday Night for the Gators, and he may be better. And it is between Florida, Auburn, and Bama for Young….who may be the better of all of them. Plus, Florida also has a commitment from Omari Phillips, who will probably be a stand out on the OL or DL….he is that athletic….and is in the runnning for several other outstanding lineman. Florida now has a great OL coach (Verducci) that is having a big impact on the recruiting trail. Theus was not a spread OL…not an overly athletic lineman. So Florida got in too late for him, especially with his brother already in Athens (and who gives schollys to long snappers, anyway?).
So, congrats on getting Thues. Very good get….and the commits for your class. But Muschamp and his staff are great recruiters….and very good coaches……so….get excited about your team….but don’t over due it with comments like…..”Take that, Florida.” Take what? 18 out of 21….and still counting!
And…..if you didn’t notice….the best RB in Georgia this year…..Mr Mike Davis….is going to be a Gator….along with the best RB in FLorida….Mr. Matt Jones. To go along with another really good former Georgia RB….Mack Brown. I would say Florida is set for years to come at RB.

After reading a few comments on this blog it’s nice to dream isn’t it.
I’m glad we got some recruits, but let’s not parade around here like Mark Richt saved his job here we still got a Season to get into coming up next month, and honestly Richt’s Season begins and ends with Boise St. and South Carolina.
If he can’t get it done against the smurfs who we pounded into the ground over 5 years ago then he just might not be the coach to get it done at all.
Oh yeah and before we even talk about BCS NCG’s got to take down the weakest of opponents that shouldn’t be no match for us talking about the UCF’s and such. Plus on top of that we must actually either win our divison or come close in 2010-11 season we weren’t even close.
To tell ya the truth looking at our upcoming schedule Richt only has room to breath on 4 games this season the 2 east OOC games being New Mexico St. and Coastal Carolina the Vanderbilt, and maybe Kentucky.
I’m just hoping Richt can get 9 wins in this season 10 will at least save his job for maybe another season with a SEC title saving it for at least 3. Any BCS bowl berth would just add on, and I already know what will happen when a title arrives.

Where’s the outrage? UGA just offered a scholarship to a player from out of state. Some Georgia player whose parents pay taxes in Georgia would have loved to play for his home school, but his scholly was given to a guy from Florida!
Hint: If you are going to give scholarships to out of state players, you never have any right to criticize a Georgia player that chooses to leave the state to play football. That’s a two way street.

Why in the world does the Richt/Bobo braintrust go to Fla. when Bama comes here and lands Under Armour All American Brandon Greene. He, like NFL 1st rounder James Carpenter and Chance Warmack is sitting right under your nose. Unbelievable. Kid’s from Cedar Grove High right here in Atlanta, 6′6″ 320 and much more athletic than Theus. Typical UGA. But I guess it works. CMR is great for UGA. Anyone who has coached understands that you may not know everything about a player when you recruit them and many times, their personalities will change as they move away from home. Athletic dorms are gone and athletes have to make better decisions because they have less supervision than in the past. Many indiscretions from the past are not accepted in today’s world. We live in a world of hypersensitive and hypercritical observers. CMR and his staff represent the University with integrity. Players know this and recruit’s parents know this. Leave the coaches alone. They may have a few down years on the field. As a grad school alumni, I support the team and coaches in good times and during the down times. GO Dawgs.

Biggest disappointment of the day had to be Jordan Jenkins. Not that we didn’t get a commitment, but his overall attitude and effort. He repped at outside lb part of the time and went through some drills at de. Much better at de. Granthem sure showed him a lot of love. I just wasn’t impressed with his attitude and the way he carried himself. He and his teammates talked and cut up through one entire presentation. Very rude. Part of the recruiting process is evaluating attitude and personality and that would be his weak point from what I saw last night.

Ramsey looks pretty good, but keep in mind you guys had Matthew Stafford and Moreno and got beat 49-10 by Florida. Richt/ Bobo are like moths flying to a flame, the same thing over and over again. You don’t need two former QB(s) as your Head Coach And Offensive Coordinator. They simply support, rather than challenge, one another, not only in play calling, but in personnel and recruiting decisions as well. This is just more of the same. The common denominator in your lack of success over the past years, beyond play calling, is your lack of a physical ball control (when needed) offense. And that starts with your offensive line. The very athletes that could remedy the situation are right here in state, and yet year after year they leave the state to help your competition defeat you (See Rokevious Watkins 6′6″ 340lb. OG/OT for S. Carolina and from Atlanta’s Creekside High), and now, Bama commit Brandon Greene 6′6″ 320 lb. Under Armour All-American from Cedar Grove High in Atlanta of all places! Same thing, year after year. Richt and Bobo. Two moths flying to the flame, over and over.

Destin……
I think the majority of Gator fans would love to have 50% of the games in THE SWAMP. I think that would give the Gators an even greater edge over traveling over to JAX every year. Also….if you moved the game to Athens half the time….what university to you think the Theus brothers would have chosen to attend? Not Georgia. The JAX game gives Georgia coaches added PUB for recruiting the area…and the state of Florida. That game also helps Florida recruit in Georgia. So….stop making excuses for losing 18 out of the last 21. Florida….by the way….traveled up to Athens and put over 50 on the board….and then the Dawgs came to the SWAMP….with one of your best QBs….and got pounded. So…I really don’t think it is the venue that is making the difference. The difference….so far….has been well-coached players. Richt has address his assistant coaching issues….let’s see if it makes a difference.

D Bad Trolls…..seems I heard the same talk this time last year…..and Florida had one of its worst teams in years….and it still beat your DAWGS. But the talent between the two teams is not that great….and hasn’t been for the last 21 years. The difference has been coaching….and I will still take Muschamp over Richt….even if he hasn’t coach a game as a head coach yet. And I certainly will take Weis over Bobo….and I will certainly take our DC over your DC…..IT IS ABOUT TALENT AND COACHING….both schools have talent. Florida still has better coaching. You will see very soon.
By the way….the FLORIDA D is going to be rocking this year. If Brantley can play a little bit this year under Weis’ QB instruction (and he has a really good track record of doing that)…the Gators are going to be really tough to beat.

At this point, I believe there are 77 guys on scholarship after all the attrition of this spring/summer. Now, some walk-ons will be granted one-year scholarships so that the full 85 are used this year, but that will be all they are for…..one year. I think we have 12 seniors, which would leave 65 scholarship players after graduation. That alone would give us 20 spots for the 2012 class. You and I both know however, that there could be an early NFL departure, a medical disqualification that ends a career, or a few transfers. Knowing that a handful of players will fall into those categories, there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to bring in anywhere from 23-25 players in this next class.

All I know is…..to my knowledge…..Florida does not offer schollys to long snappers. They are offered preferred walk on status and can earn a scholly later. How do I know….my brother’s son was one of the top long snappers in the state by in the early 90’s…..and no one offered him a scholly….but he had preferred walk on offers from about 25 schools….including Florida, Georgia, and Auburn. He was also a very good LB….(but small for big schools)….and chose Furman as a walk on so he could play LB as well. He then went down with a compund fracture on the leg in his senior year….and all went away for him in those terms.

Nothing new here. UGA was rated the #2 team in nation overall in recruiting in the last decade. #2!!! The last couple of years have yielded what with all that talent? 2 unranked teams in the final polls. This year is going to be weak in the east but i have no idea if UGA can take advantage of it. If we lose to Boise and USC in the 1st couple of weeks, it will be another 5 or 6 loss season for sure in my opinion. We barely can beat GT and they will beat us again i’m sure soon at some point.

Yes the team that was on its 3rd LT, its 3rd freshman line, its 4th week on not having enough LB and DE to even practise during the week, with it’s best players turning the ball over, facing the team on one of the best offensive runs in the recent history of the conference, just gave up late in the game down by multiple scores. Otherwise they surely would have won that game.
And that certainly proves that Ramsey will not be an effective QB 5 yrs later.

All I’m saying is that Studs like Chance Warmack, James Carpenter, Roke Watkins, and JuWuan James, and Brandon Greene, have or will play significant roles in your competitor’s success (including National Titles!) and they’re all from the State of Georgia. There is something wrong when you have the constant flow of this type offensive line talent leaving the state. You guys keep raving about Deangelo Tyson. Rokevious Watkins pushed him all over Williams-Brice Stadium for South Carolina last year. If you had signed Watkins, you beat Carolina last year. He was that impotant in their win. Now you move Tyson to Defensive end. All Spurrier will do is move Watkins from OG to OT and push him around again. He outweighs Tyson by 50 lbs! But this is what I’m talking about. You let a kid like Watkins leave the state and he ends up kicking your butt. You better get some size at defensive end. NOW! Maybe Geathers. It’s just damn unfortunate for Georgia fans that it has to be this way. Something’s wrong up there.

Theus committment is not really big news. He has been a UGA lean for over a year. The fact he even flirted with Fl. was big news. That being said, if Richt and Grantham could turn Jenkins the D.E/O.L. that would be big news. UGA and Fl. both need O.L. for 2012 class, and they are going head to head on 4 studs(THeus, Dunker, Avery Young, and D.J.Humphries), UGA will get Theus, and Fl. with get the other 3. So don’t get too excited about Theus, because UGA desperately needs one of the other tackles that haven’t committed Young&Humphries, but doesn’t look like that will happen. Fl will continue to get top talent, and they will continue to outrecruit UGA, even when both schools are after the same top talent at the same position of need. What is very disturbing about 2012 is the fact UGA has one committmet from the top 11 players in state, and they only lead for one other player in top 11. That is scary, and all of these kids know this could be it for Richt&BoBo, and thus they are committing to UGA’s rivals. Also, Theus has said all along that if Richt is at UGA he will committ and sign with them, wouldn’t be surprised to see Fl. get all 4 of these stud tackles before Feb. 2012. Now that would be an amazing day for FL. not UGA.

@ 1953Dawg,
If DJ Humphries commits to UF then Avery Young will become a Dawg! If DJ Humphries commits to UT or USC then UF will most likely get Young. You only sign two (2) tackle studs at a time as they dont want to play behind someone in the same recruiting class. If I were a Top-10 OT then I would do the same and go to a school where I have playing time….The key for UGA will be Vandal Alexander. He has the size to be an OT. If he is the other OT to Theus then we are in really good shape and just need to close out Joe Harris and pull one additonal decent OG. I am not sure why UGA isnt offering Alex Jauregui out of Peachtree Ridge yet. He would be a good OG/OT backup for this class that can redshirt.
Also 1953Dawg, why do you have to be so negative brother? Are you a GT closet fan?

Dawgster……
Just telling one over-excited Dawg fan that you guys getting Theus does not make Gator fans quake in our alley skin boots….or change very much. I find it constantly amazing how one signee (like Benedict from a few years ago) will make you national champs. Great coaching and excellent talent does that. Georgia has not lacked one and has lacked in the other. Whereas, Florida (until last year when a great coach stopped coaching) has done well in both categories for the last 10 years or so. And I think it will….no matter what Dawg fans currently think…..continue in that same patten with Muschamp….who has put together a great coaching staff….and recruits like hell….all over the country. So hang in there…..the battle will continue each year in the SEC and in JAX. Enjoy your summer of dreams. Gator fans live in the reality of fall….and last year was not a nice reality pill for us….but I think it is going to get better this year….unless Brantley repeats last year’s performance and Weis can’t perform his QB magic with him.

My money is still on McGarity in clearing things up at Georgia as soon as possible. If our losses last year had not been to every ranked opponent we played or if we had beaten even one ranked opponent I think McGarity would have already given CMR a three year extension. I think that McGarity is waiting to see how we play against Boise State and South Carolina. If we look good or beat one or both I think McGarity knows how important stability of the head coach is , and will give CMR an extension by the 3rd game. But, if we look bad, disorganizes and leaderless, from the coaches and players stand point I think McGarity will change coaches very early in the fall so it will affect recruiting as little as possible. The faster you change coaches or give an extension the better it is so recruits that go to a school because of who the head coach is can decide,

TG, why are you constantly amazed by something that nobody ever says?
I am constantly amazed when people completely misuse exagerations. It’s one thing if it was to reinforce a point, But when no point existed without it, when the exageration created the point, was it really worth saying?

I think there are plenty of offensive linemen to go around for every major team. What happens to those linemen once they get on campus determines how that part of the team does. Sure a 5-star OL is good but many 3 and 4 star are just as good. Many played at private schools or in a small league and because of the lack of exposure never got the star rating they deserve. CMR and Bobo need to start proving they know something about being offensive leader other the QB position or McGarity will do something about it.

I can’t see Mcgarity doing anything on the contract till after the season. No need to have any such distactions. Everybody knows Richt is going to be here, unless it’s a bad year. I don’t think recruits need to see the contract to know that. And if it is a bad year, having an interim coach for half a season (which he would never do) doesnt exactly tell the kids who they are signing up to play for either. That would be the absolute worse way to handle recruiting IMO.

well confrats Dawgs CMR is having a great early season haul. Now for the what if, lets assume that CMR doesn’t have the season hoped for and he is forced out ( I hope this doesn’t happen) then what ? Does your early commits jump ship? Henry for example is a self admitted long time gator fan and he is a 2013 commit thats a long time. This kid is a close to the Herschel Walker as I have ever seen, hopefully Coach Muschamp can change his mind over the next year and half. Don’t want another Herschel running through,by and over us. As for CMR he is one of the good guys with one exception his little dance party all the guy does is have good recruiting classes and win except in jax. So go ahead reveal in your unsigned haul its what college football is all about.

Benedict leaving UGA is a fleeting thought now that Theus is coming.
If the O line can block and the D finally catches on to Grantham’s 3-4 and they learn to tackel alot better we could actually have quite a season…………and the next year would be even greater.
My concern has always been much more with our coaching than the level of talent on the field. I mean we should have won that bowl game by 30 points or more.

UGA recruiting is too narrow
July 17th, 2011

UGA never really seems to get it, concerning great O and D linemen. Maybe I simply do not get it on the HS recruiting front.
Why can we not sign every year …….. 4 or 5 or 6 big boys and yes, two ought to be 4 or 5 star kids. With depth, a team can win in the SEC.
UGA always is a hospital orthopedic ward in August on the O line, with bum shoulders, knees, bad backs and chronic this or that or Johnny simply quit. Why?
Depth solves these problems IF we recruited 5 or 6 quality O linemen ever year. We always have 20-30 flanker/db “athletes” and tight ends but never the hulks.
LSU and Alabama and such always have depth and “big, strong, physically imposing linemen”, so says Kevin Butler and I agree 100% with that. Why does UGA NOT have them?
Go Dogs.

I think the injuries to the big men will be a lot less this year, due to the S and C program now in place. Last year, our big guys seemed to be gassed by the 4th quarter. I think this will not be the case this year. We are thin in backups at Ol this year, but with experience, this should be the last year this is so. We have one 5 star for next years class recruited and I think before 2012 is over with for recruiting we will have 3 or 4 more big men coming in. One thing I feel for sure is that we may lack experience but we will not lack strength and endurance. The whole team is going to benefit from a better S and C program. Let’s not forget that we also have a lot of speed in a lot of positions this year as well.

“too narrow”, no idea why some of them don’t work out, but the fact that both of the assistants that have a lot to do with the O-line have both been replaced, might be some kind of a sign.
BUT your assertion that UGA doesn’t understand the need for number is not really accurate. UGA has recruited pretty much the same number of Olinemen over the past few years as anyone else does. They signed 6 last year. 2009 was a pretty down year at every positions, but in 2008 they signed 4, 2007 they signed 8. 7 the year before that. Nobody is signing any more numbers and these are all guys that other folks wanted.
Also worth saying that UGA has already signed as much O-linemen as anyone else in the SEC except one I think, at this point of the year.
Now making something with them is another story. Hopefully things will get back to normal, as the O-line has been pretty solid for the most part in the past decade. Looks like we are a year away from having depth again.

Everybody EXPECTED the last 2 years to be down years with Cox at QB and Moreno gone. Then a new freshman QB and New defense and coaches last year plus a weak OL. Last year was a FLUKE and UGA EASILY could have lost only 2 games STILL last year without bad breaks and suspensions. so 6 and 6 was not expected but understandable. The bowl game was TOTALLY Bobo’s fault. All games UGA could have won or were in position to win except the Auburn game but bad breaks, untimely turnovers and penalties and terrible calls by the refs at the WORST time and UGA could have went 9-3, 10-2 or 11-1. Last year was a fluke. Every team goes through a tough spell. I disagree because I think McGarity wants to be proactive and show that he is in charge and knows what it take to have a top ten team , every year. One of CMR problems has been he is years too slow in making changes if it is needed. McGarity has seen the benefit that a mid year change will have on the team and on recruiting when he was at Florida. I hope CMR will do enough to get the extension but if he doesn’t the only way CMR isn’t replaced early is if Adams steps in and want let it happen.I think McGarity will be a great AD if allowed to handle things his way. Remember , McGarity is a Georgia graduate and will only have what best for Georgia in mind. I will support him in his decision 100% . He just doesn’t seem the type to second guess himself and be one of these that wait too long before taking action.

Columbus,
I agree but I think CMR has made it very clear that Bobo is there to stay as long as he is head coach. Bobo’s wife is related to the Dooley’s and with 5 kids just puts too much pressure on Richt to ever think about replacing him. My thing about Bobo is if he had any respect from other teams he would have been interviewed last year for one of the many head coaching jobs that came open or one of the coordinator jobs or coaching job that came open in Pro ball. Bobo should be making a lot more than he is at Georgia but even though he is a very good quarterback coach and recruiter seems to not be able to handle the many responsibilities of a coordinator . One big example of that is the problem we had with our offensive line last year, which is his responsibility.

7576, McGarity is going to give Richt every opportunity to succeed, even if (and I don’t think it will happen) Dawgs start 0-2 there’s still a chance with this schedule to have a 9-11 win season. No way Adams backs anything other than giving Richt every chance there is including another disappointing season if he replaces another coordinator.

Waiting to replace Martinez has cost Georgia a lot and waiting to hire Grantham cost them a lot last year with recruits of the 2010 class that doesn’t fit Granthams 3-4 scheme or took awhile to learn everything. The defense will be greatly improved this year and possibly could carry Georgia to 10 or 11 wins but if Bobo doesn’t improved a lot from last year I’m afraid his weakness as a coordinator will be a lot more obvious in 2012 and especially in 2013 when the schedule is a lot harder and the defense can’t mask the problems with the offense.

So you are saying that the AD in a “show of being in charge” would fire the HC in mid season and replace him with whom? Rodney Garner? Mike Bobo? Joe T?
Who would he proving he is in chare to? Nobody questions that he is in charge. In fact, that would look like he was LESS in charge and just reacting.
There could not be a worse move if recruiting was the concern. That would absolutely make no sense. What recruit would commit in a situation like that before a new coach is named? And thats not going to happen till December. Obviously the thing to do is let the current staff do the best they can recruting till the end of the season.
McGarity isn’t going to be playing silly chess games like that over something as serious as the HC because he is worried about a couple of recruits.

OK Bob, that’s certainly a fair personal opinion to have. So say that 2008 was such a poor job worth firing..that would make him waiting only ONE year longer than some folks would have liked. In light of the fact that the defensive staff held together a squad that couldn’t even practise after the 5th game of the year, had no healthy DE, which is the main cog of the style they played, barely enough LBs to play the whole game, had to compensate for an offence and special teams turning the ball over repeatedly, and still managed to win 10 games, he felt like giving them ONE year was the right thing to do. As soon as he was convinced, he made a move.

And I don’t mean “right” by them. Right by the program, as he is clearly of the opinion that stability is very important. you/me/they may agree or disagree, but that certainly is his philosophy, and the adminsistration seem to be supportive of that.

Poopdawg why should I be worried? UF had its worst team in 20 years last season and still came away with a W. I learned everything I need to know about CMR when he allowed Ron Zook to have a winning record against him as a HC.

Was last year the worst in 20 years or was Zook’s teams? kinda swirling around in your point. Was that worse than 2004 team? I don’t think so. Maybe you need ot check with some folks who actually follow the gators. and How can a team 2 yrs removed from a NC and a couple of the best recruiting classes (some Fl fans say best in UF history) be the worst team in 20 yrs?

AD I follow the Gators for 25 years and last yrs squad w/o question was the worst in 20 years. SOS and Zook NEVER had a team that finished outside the Top 50 in offense, next to last in the SEC in sacks(KY had more sacks then UF) and we only scored 7 points in two games(FSU and UF)….. Zook’s 7-5(2004) was the core of the 2006 NC team. 2011 UF WORST team in 20 years.

Grant park gator, if your not worried then why are you running your mouth like a fool or maybe a dawg defensive player bit you after tackling you last year. Your talking trash acting like you have contributed to the Gators win over the Dawgs. I believe you want more info on CMR. Maybe even a man crush.

GrantParkGator,
I agree. Last year was the worst I’ve seen since the 80’s. Poor gameplans, worse execution and a coaching staff that seemed to be just going through the motions. Zook’s teams gave effort, just weren’t that well coached.

PD..lmao NO coach has done less with more than CMR. Rivals #2 ranked program in the decade in recruiting but still NO NC. How hilariously SAD! It starts from the TOP.

P.J, you don’t have to be an oracle to see what personnel we have coming back (NO experience at RB and the pathetic situation at O-line). You sound to me like a cool aid drinking Richtophile and you think UGA fans have to support the coach to support the team which you don’t.I was a life long fan before I graduated from there BUT unlike you, I’m a realist and know when we need to change coaches and that was last year after the bowl debacle. Stay classy.

Gooo Dawgs (required to get posted). VinDawg, how will you beat Boise, they are elite and dasegs no longer are (less talented than last years 6-7 team) and you admit beating SC in ATHENS would be an upset. That says it all about state of UGA football.

G-o-o-o Dawgs. Marcus Lattimore (on everyones top 5 for Heisman) is running like a freight train straight to Athens. Hide the women and children, this ain’t gonna be pretty. 8 weeks away and I will be in the stands (25th anniversary of my first UGA/SC game) and we are bringing our most talented team and even UGA fans expect to lose. Fantastic!

RedandBlackDAWG: There’s never an “exact number” of scholarships available at this point. It was expected to be a smallish class but with all the attrition I suspect they’ll be able to sign 25 by the time February 2012 rolls around.

Henry a linebacker? You guys are idiots in my opinion. He is the #1 rated high school player in the state of Florida coming out for the signing class of 2013 but some of you look at his size and are already moving him to linebacker based on that? Did I mention he is the #1 player in Florida for the signing class of 2013 as a running back? Did you know that?

So Scboy if the kids wants to play for a program that loses 5+ games most every year , has never been to a major bowl , has zero top ten finishes in its history, has an all time record of 15-43 against UGA , add to that 3-7 over 10 years and 2-4 since Spurriers started. Then let him change his mind and play for the perennial wanna bes.

Richt will turn a 5 star player into a 3 start player. Hopefully the schedule will keep Richt around.
You can coach them up or you can coach them down. King and Benedict started out 5 stars, and we know what happened.

Whiskey Breath,
Since you seem to be such an expert on coaching. How would you have motivated a kid that doesn’t want to put forth the effort to study and has had more chances than he deserves to do so? He was givien more tutors than a dog has fleas.
How would you motivate a young man, that is really still rehabbing his surgically repaired knee in his mind and is not willing to take the chance to get it better? UGA did the best they could do by him, as far as fixing his knee problems go and allowing him to rehab it.
You seem to always criticize but I don’t see a single way that you could improve this or that ever mentioned. You would probably make a good politician though since you seem to point out problems and yet offer no solutions.

Grantpark, I’ll give you credit, that is seriously wanting to defend that offhanded remark.
SO the 2004 that lost to MissState back in the day, Lost the bowl game, lost to UGA and coached by Zook, (which I believe your consideration of him as a terrible coach was vital to your point in the first place) was not a worse team than this last UF bunch that beat UGA, and won the bowl game, coached By Meyer. Based on not making the top 50 in yards. Did so in points, but not yards. Also was top 10 in defense last year, but sure, worst team in 20 yrs.
And all that to say that UGA 6-7 coulnd’t even beat them, which I guess you are saying our worst team should have been about to do.
Circular logic at its best there.

Why the recruiting comparison to USC ? Yes, they are #1 and UGA is # 2 but it falls apart after that.
USC is #1 in placing players into the first round of the NFL draft and UGA isn’t even in the top 10.

Adams has handled the best d-ends in the state: Jarontay Jones Stephenson, Kenderius Whitehead Monroe,, Tevin McCoy Carrollton, Stephon Tuitt Monroe, Sheldon Rankins, Eastside, Xzavier Dickson Griffin, Ray Drew Thomas County Central. Goes up against Quintez Williams day-in-day-out.

It amazes me that we can offer to a 5′11″ “athlete” but have not even talked with the best/fastest corner in the state because he is too short at 5′10″. By the way, Alabama and Auburn are not concerned about his height.

It’s good to see GA doing really well recruiting. I’m a Coach Ricth fan, he’s a good person first, but he’s also a SEC caliber coach, and the SEC needs good coaches to stay on top.
