Former UGA RB Washaun Ealey lands at Jacksonville State

Washaun Ealey has found a home.

Jacksonville State football coach Jack Crowe announced on Thursday that Ealey has enrolled in classes there and will compete for the Gamecocks this fall.

Ealey, a rising junior, was the Bulldogs’ leading rusher last year. He was granted an unconditional release by UGA coach Mark Richt after the two reached a “mutual decision” Ealey would be better off continuing his football career elsewhere.

Ealey was one of two SEC transfers to join the I-AA program this summer. Linebacker Clarence Jackson is coming to Jacksonville State from Ole Miss.

“Both of these players are experienced SEC players,” Crowe said. “We expect both of them to come in and make an immediate impact on our team.”

played in 21 games for Georgia with nine starts during his two seasons with the Bulldogs. He rushed for 1,528 yards and 14 touchdowns, including 811 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games as a sophomore.

Jack St’s a great school, one of the elite 290 on Princenton Review’s list, also voted the #1 most friendly school in the south.

Hey, Eastside – I saw Cam Newton play as a Gator, coming in after Tebow went out. His passes couldn’t hit a house. Running was fair, but, near Demps, he looked slow. He just got better after a couple of years. That Urban recruited and signed him shows that he recognized talent. Oh, yeah,….that, and a coupla NC’s.

You need to see JSU today. Awesome campus. Awesome stadium. Crowe is good with stupid adolescents and Jacksonville makes Athens look like New York City. Very little temptation.

Mike,

If you were in a business meeting, would it matter if you used improper english or bad grammer about setting beer? Trust me, it matters. Whether it’s on a sports blog or perhaps an American Idol blog, it matters.

You call Washaun a quitter, but you are quitting and making excuses on using proper grammer. At age 31, you should know better and have better respect for yourself, or your kids, if you have any, for that matter.

Now maybe he can be on a team that can defeat UCF! Go Gators! Good Luck W.E. – keep the car insurance current too (is it even required in Alabama? didn’t used to be.)

If Ealey had been featured as the premiere back, and got 360 carries, at 5.3 a carry like he did in 2010, and scoring a td every 14 carries like he did in 2010, Ealey would have been up for the Heisman.

1908 yards rushing, and 25 td’s for Ealey in the SEC if Richt had made Ealey the premeire back.

Zappy

Ingram had 1650 yards rushing for 17 td’s to win the Heisman, Ealey would have increased the td numbers, Ingram got a td every 17 carries, Ealey was averaging a td every 14 carries.

What a waste of talent.

Vintage Mark Richt.

Mike…..I believe WE will be 23 on his next bithday He is a grown man and not an unaware teenager. If you remember his statement from last year; he said he was only coming back to UGA to improve his draft position. Now based and his actions and in-actions he has no draft position and is no longer a beloved Dawg. Jack Crowe will make him work harder than he had to work at UGA. Let us see how that plays out.

Simply a brilliant move by Ealey.

Move to a top 12 ranked team, lead them to the National Championship, then transfer back into a top SEC team, likely Bama, lead them to a National Championship, then go top 5 in the NFL.

Hey, it worked for Cam. Also, Mettenberger is using this same trac.

Let’s just say WE had his chance, and did not live up to the expectations put on him, because he didn’t have the physical talents to make it happen, and made bad mistakes along the way! But by all means! Good luck, WE, hope you have great stats this year, and move your football career forward to the next level. Myself, I don’t think you have the size, but you do have some quicks! Good luck, young man!!

Jacksonville State Univ. is a fine institution of higher learning here in NE Bama.. turning out many renowned criminal justice grads, and also professors and teachers… small campus (8,000) but big in southern pride. I wish for Ealey and Jackson much success, which I think they will have. Who knows what the future hold for the Jax State football team, but we all seem to think many good things lie ahead…

Ealey was a great back… with great flashes of what some would call brilliant running… fumbles and off field issues caused his stock to drop with me… he could have been a special back.. but u gotta remember its really hard to follow somebody like moreno… hopefully somebody else in the backfield can step up and produce so aaron murray will have less pressure on himself to throw… either way i hope the best for ealey… and hope he learn that he’s a STUDENT-athlete… student comes first…

Washaun Ealey didn’t do much against UCF in the Liberty Bowl.
He’s a I-AA-type player.
UCF’s defense is too strong for him and Georgia.

UCF,

UGA was an uninspired team when you played them at the liberty bowl last year. Do you really think your defense is that strong. I am not familiar with the final standings amongst all the NCAA div. 1 schools defense wise so perhaps you could look it up and post it. Ealey is a Div. 1 player as far as physical skills go. That has never been a problem. Attitude and being a team player have been his problems and he will probably do fine there for the one year he will be there.
Maybe UCF might want to join the SEC and then we could get a better evaluation of how your defense holds up, playing in the big leagues every year.

Forget all the transfer trash talk; who didn’t do this or that!!! CMR must win this year to get the program back on track; CMR stated he knows what he is doing and has been doing it for 25 yrs; prove it this year; last year, during spring, he stated this will be a very good FB Team; ended up 6-7 and played horribly in the Bowl Game!!!

Time for a change!

RHALL55,

Last year the team lacked chemistry. I think we also made too many changes at once to the structure of the team to be successful. Hopefully this year, the 3-4 defense will click, and the offense will jell better. Our strength will be the defense until the offense gets some experience under it’s belt. I sure wish we had Boise and S.C. in about the middle of the schedule, rather than starting right off. I guess nobody could have foreseen the O line problems and the RB problems though, so it is what it is. I think we can probably use the size we have on Boise to our advantage but S.C. is just as big and they have experience.

UCF? Murray didn’t anything against UCF, Miss St or South Carolina, give me a break. Murray did have a tendnacy to turn the ball over with his 4 int game vs. Fla, 3 to vs. UCF, 10 int’s, 5 fumbles, he was a 1 man turnover machine. Ealey’s 2 fumbles pale in comparison to turnover machine Murray. Yeah, said Mett was cancer last year, team went from 8 wins DOWN to 6 wins after Mett left. Wonder how many games Richt will go down after Ealey, #1 td scorer for UGA, bolted. I can see Richt winning 4 or 5 games in 2011.

Washaun will do well at Jacksonville State and help them contend for a national championship. Look for JSU to jump to BCS in a few years; great stadium. They have some other quality backs as well including Darius Barksdale who transferred from Ole Miss and QB Thomas Darrah who transferred from Alabama.

Footey,

You are comparing a kid that touched the ball, almost every offensive play for UGA, versus one that touched the ball a whole lot less. Why not look up the total touches Murray had and do a comparison between he and Ealey, based on a percentage basis. By the way, how many passes did Ealey attempt?

Agree with all, blame UCF & UF losses on #11, too many turnovers. Murray’s 15 to’s led the SEC QB’s.

You might want to venture over to AL DOT COM for a look, at their take on Murray and the QB situation in the SEC this year. They seem to think pretty highly of him and that is something, you don’t see too often from an opposing states news source.

WE’s off the field issues not as big a deal to me than his on the field issues. I was super-pumped about him being a dog, but he wasn’t the back we need. The o-line did not help his cause. Doesn’t matter who we put in there at this point if the o-line can’t push some folks out of the way. Could be a long year against the huge SEC defenses. Not so worried about Boise.

Agree on Murray. Anyone who really looks closely at Murray’s stats will see 2 different QB’s. Murray 1 is the guy most people see, that’s the guy who puts up 17 td’s and goes 6-1, that’s Murray1, THE qb against teams qwith losing records like Idaho State.

Murray 2, is the QB most people don’t know. He went 0-6 against teams with winning records, only threw 7 td’s against these guys.

So, Murray will do fine against the bad teams on the schedule, it’s the Boise, SC, MSU, Auburn, Tenn, Florida where he’ll be ineffective, commit turnovers, and lose 100% of the games. Murray will go 6-6 in 2011, he’ll go 6-0 against the bad teams, 0-6 against the good teams, just like last year.

I beg to differ that UGA will run all over Boise. Check it out and you’ll see the Bronc’s have done well against top ranked teams, in fact, better than Richt. Wait till you see the Broc’ offense, really creative, and QB is most accurate in NCAA. Real contrast to UGA.

Murray is a 1AA player, he didn’t perform well against UCF. He performed terrible against UCF, the UCF defense stifled him. Murray couldn’t perform against some of the worst ranked pass dwefenses either like South Carolina. Murray also lost to Colorado. And committed 4 turnovers in the biggest game of theyear against the Gators.

Pretty good company for Washaun Ealey.

Tomlinson went to TCU, Steven Jackson to Oregon St.

Don’t have to be D-1 school, just dominate.

2 best offensive players came from small schools.

Walter Payton, Jack St, Jerry Rice, Miss Valley St.

Good idea here from Washaun, proven path to greatness is get reps, period, even if it’s at a smaller school. If tyou dominate, you’ll get your shot in the NFL, and likely have a chip on your shoulder.

Wierd that the 2 best at WR & RB came from small schools.

Now that this is out of the way, the real leaders of the UGA football team can step forward and lead us to victories.

Mettenberger-Will never play at LSU. Already been recruited over.
Ealey-Hopefully, he will actually go to class and learn something and stop being selfish.
Gray-Backup WR at Colorado. Hopefully he will just enjoy the year and stop whining about being a QB(which he is not)
Houston-Blamed his teammates for being out of position yet was identified on film by NFL scouts as “taking plays off.”

The cancers are gone.

No more excuses.

Likely, Ealey will win a Championship before he leaves, and Gray’s team beat Georgia last year and could this year and will have a better record than UGA, and Mettenberger will win a National Championship and likely a Heisman before he leaves LSU.

These guys leave UGA with Murray, a guy who’s 0-6 versus winning teams, ranks 80 or worse among all QB’s in:
1st qrtr accuracy
1st qrtr pass effic
4th qrtr accuracy
4th qrtr pass effic
3rd down accuracy & red zone accuracy

My bet’s on Mettenberger winning more games. Murray just falls apart in big games against winning teams:
South Carolina- 0 tds
UCF- 0 td’s, 3 turnovers
Miss St- 1 td
Auburn- 3 td’s in 1st quarter, then fell apart
Florida- 4 turnovers
Ark- 6 sacks

Ealey & Gray will be better off with a better QB.

Louis,

You DO know that the APR consists of more ingredients than just academic performance right? I’d list all of them here, but I’ll let you do the research. By the way, their APR score had improved far greater than most NCAA schools this past year. I’ll send you the link if you need it.

Mike….I’m a huge Dawg fan, as well as a JSU fan, but I’m beginning to think that you’re really just an angry elf and a true fan of Jackass University. JSU’s a great school and more capable of winning a National Championship the next 2 years than Georgia is, but I am truly rooting for Georgia to win at all every year.

One thing Jack Crowe can do is get a kid and turn him around. He does this by instituting a schedule so damn busy that a kid has almost no opportunity for error, and he get’s them out of the atmosphere than acts as a catalyst for trouble. Washaun is in a small town, heavily guarded with planted peers who are also members of the football team and coaches who can guide him in the right direction. Coach Crowe is almost a Jedi Master at this! He will do fine at JSU.
