Former UGA RB Washaun Ealey lands at Jacksonville State

Washaun Ealey has found a home.

Jacksonville State football coach Jack Crowe announced on Thursday that Ealey has enrolled in classes there and will compete for the Gamecocks this fall.

Ealey, a rising junior, was the Bulldogs’ leading rusher last year. He was granted an unconditional release by UGA coach Mark Richt after the two reached a “mutual decision” Ealey would be better off continuing his football career elsewhere.

Ealey was one of two SEC transfers to join the I-AA program this summer. Linebacker Clarence Jackson is coming to Jacksonville State from Ole Miss.

“Both of these players are experienced SEC players,” Crowe said. “We expect both of them to come in and make an immediate impact on our team.”

played in 21 games for Georgia with nine starts during his two seasons with the Bulldogs. He rushed for 1,528 yards and 14 touchdowns, including 811 yards and 11 touchdowns in 12 games as a sophomore.

Jeff, who you gonna vote for in 2011? ABO? ;)

So…Ealey has a better yards per carry average than Herschel. Not surprising. It should be even higher given that most of his yards were probably on 3rd and 13 draw plays. I don’t seem to remember many big runs from him unless they ended in a fumble. Ninety thousand people knew Herschel was getting the ball and he didn’t do much juking.

Having said that, Ealey will probably run for 2,000 yards at JS and promptly transfer to Awbun or LSU, if still academically eligible. Jack Crowe better warn his team not to loan him their car.

You have been given another opportunity son. Dummy up and take advantage of it.

@ Paddy

JSU plays a good mix of D1 Teams bc they are MONEY games. Lets dont over hype the “legend” of Jack Crowe as you are doing. The money games support the entire Athletic Department for JSU. Also Ole Miss was the ONLY game last season vs a D1 team, lol. So thats a good mix?

People get your facts straight! One blogger said Perrilloux played two fantastic seasons at JSU. He only played one season at JSU, nice year but folks use GOOGLE. It is a valuable source to fact check your ideas before you rant nonsense.

Mike,
“your an idiot” is about as blatant of a hypocritical statement as I’ve ever seen. It’s “you’re” you dumb a$$. Sometimes it shames me to see the ignorance of fellow UGA “alum.” Something tells me you never stepped foot in a class room in Athens. I bet Washaun got a better grade in English 101 because he actually took the class…

Richt comes from the Miami,FSU background. Bobby Bowden was and is very much like Richt in his football program and as a person. In the 90s these social rebates won for you because they were the best on the field. Old Bowden was very soft on disciple to the pleasure of his FSU nation. His teams played dirty as pointed out in film by Bobby Ross and Steve Spurrier. All that worked until parity came to college football. Now it takes good assistant coaching and disciple to win close games, which most games now days are. Less good players means you have to be in good condition. Go down and watch a TCU practice in the heat of the day with Gary Patterson and then watch a practice at Georgia. One is a war the other is a social event. You can’t even get into a Alabama practice which tells you something is going on there too. Don’t even start with what the program was in Miami.

Richt has had some of the most penalized teams in the SEC. Unlike Dooley’s teams that got the fumble in the fourth quarter his cough it up. Dooley would have won even bigger in this era of football. One of the smartest coaches ever. You know how you can tell outside him just sounding intelligent and the results on the field. Look at his legacy. Players and assistant coaches from his era are above average citizens and professionals. Every other team in the SEC has tapped into that legacy except Georgia itself. Even Tech has a branch from Erk Russell. This thing with Adams and Dooley has lead Georgia away from its roots. Players are coming to the place Dooley built ,not Richt and Adams. Bowden was showed the door last year, FSU immediately improved. Joe Paterno is still coaching and winning so don’t let the age fool ya. Paterno is a Dooley type coach.

Ealey is an interesting player:

I thought he was a very good back with a lot of potential. I criticized Bobo a lot in 2009 for not using him enough. Him and King were a good 1&2 punch for us. I never felt Ealey had great speed, but he definitely was a better “every down” back than Caleb( who has amazing speed!). But last year it just didn’t seem like Ealey had the same focus. The O-Line certainly didn’t do him any favors, but you could tell he didn’t have the same confidence. Even though he rushed for more yards last year than he did in 2009, I think those fumbles vs. SC and Colorado( both of which cost us games) really hurt his confidence. You got to remember that this is probably the first time in Ealey’s career that he’s experinced adversity. Sure he didn’t handle it well, but then again he hasn’t had a lot of practice at it either. I wish him luck. Sometimes things don’t work out. However, with that being said, he needs to learn from his mistakes and get better. Otherwise he’ll just repeat them.

Lets get the facts straight! WE did not get arrested for Public drunkenness, counterfeiting, and/or stealing from campus buildings. However, he did do the other 2 things. Which if you know anything, knows it does stem from when he was in high school and some people other than him had a miscommunication about some things! I think he should have taken care of it when it happened! I live in this town that he is from, so I know what happened because unlike the rest of you, we are told his every move just about it! WE does not consider himself a “Herschel Walker” the press does! However, when he was being recruited, he had several people looking at him, because HE IS that good! Not sure if you all have ever been to Stillmore, but it is not a ritzy community or a place with a lot of money, because it is far from it! He made some mistakes, no doubt, I am sure he will admit that. He was a young boy(at the time), and you have to guide kids like that to help them. Ealey didn’t make the team, or break the team! Remember it is a team effort! Went to several games last year, and watched him closely, and he worked hard out there on the field, but I am sure you could have done a better job right? I doubt it! He has worked hard at being a good football player and yes, there are times when the team doesn’t help as much as they should as far as blocking goes, you still blame Ealey! Shame on you!!

I want to see him succeed in life and so should the rest of you bashing him! That will only make him stronger! He may have some problems off the field, but that can be helped with the correct guidance! BTW, at least he still has people still wanting him with his talents, and will make it big, and do great things, then maybe you will change your mind about someone you don’t even know! Life in general is hard enough by itself without someone trying to bring you down!

It makes you ask the question of CMR and his recruiting staff, if he is soooo smart why does he have all of these kids on his team with all these troubles? I believe in 2nd chances, but you have to separate the kids with troubles and put them with the kids that are on the straight and narrow to see how they should be and act! But if you want it bad enough, you will continue on with your education regardless of how things turn out.

I am proud of him for continuing on his journey for his education and for his talents! He will do great things there and wish him the best of luck!

I liked Ealey’s style as a RB. The other RB at UGA does not impress me. Only UGA recruits 150-180lb RB’s to play in the SEC. Couple that with a QB who is not a player unless he is passing categorizes UGA as a cellar team.

I do not ever recall CMR ever proclaiming to be a saint. He simply tries to have concern for the student, in more then just how well he plays football and tries to turn them into success stories as much as possible. If that bothers you so much, perhaps you need to upgrade your booze of choice to something a little more classy. That ripple can be a killer.

Umm, Ryan Perrilloux DID play two seasons at JSU — 2008 and 2009. And they WERE fantastic seasons. Despite the myth surrounding RP coming out of LSU, in Jville he turned out to be a model student, citizen and teammate.

I grew up a Dawg fan, so I took the news of Ealey’s transfer with some trepidation. Our backfield is already loaded — it’s not like we were starving for RBs. (At least one of them was a 4-star recruit coming out of HS, so Ealey’s not exactly guaranteed the starting job.)

The guys on our team play hard and play with heart. I don’t know if Ealey’s of the same mold. Looking at his career at UGA, he looks to be a me-first guy who doesn’t want to block. Not so sure that’s what we want on the team. I hope he proves me wrong.

Oh, and @Flat Tire … This ain’t minor league baseball in the 1970s. Our guys eat steak for their pre-game meal.

When you consider Ealey averaged 12x more td’s than any other back’s he was rotating with, and 6x more td’s than King, really, you have to look at Richt’s decision to rotate Ealey, the #1 td scorer on the team at 11 td’s, I think AJ Green had 9 td’s, so Richt’s decision to rotate Ealey with 3 guys 12x less productive than Ealey, you can see why Ealey left Richt standing in the dust.

Let’s see here:
a) 1 back who’s scored 11 td’s
b) 4 backs who’ve scored 4 together as a unit

Let’s go with plab B?

Richt, Richt, Richt, not a smart move, even I can see this.

Ealey averaged 5.5 yards a carry, got a td every 14 touches in 2010.

Yes Ealey had all those statistics on a passing team and Mark Richt made a comment about the freshman may start vs. Boise State???? Whatever happened to his, “He has to block to play running back philosophy?” Inconsistency in coaching and dealing with players breeds content. Saying something in public about Ealey as he did in Augusta is not the greatest support of a player. Would you want to play for someone that was that uncommitted to you as Richt was? Richt has been careful to say the right things many times but he missed the boat on this one.

I like coach Richt but I’ve always said that he doesn’t make the hard and tough decisions. He tends to over-rotate and give his upper classman undeserved playing time. The only position this is not true is at the quarter back spot. I assume this is b/c he was a qb and realizes that players perform better if they’re allowed to get in a rhythm. I’m sure Ealey was upset by this. Let’s be real…he was the best back on the team and you never knew how many carries he would get.

I remember Moreno’s freshman season. UGA was halfwalf through the season before Richt realized that he had a stud. Richt just had to satisfy his upperclassman, Thomas Brown and the other kid (forgot his name).

My daughter was recruited by Jacksonville State some years back, and we visited because it was an easy drive from Atlanta. Thank goodness we didn’t waste an “official” visit. Less than impressed would be a HUGE understatement. Worst visit to any college campus ever. Unbelievably dingy and non-existent academics. How they could have possibly been cited by the NCAA for failing to meet performance standards is amazing. If you could compose a sentence with more than two words and each word having more than one syllable would probably guarantee you an A in any class.
