Isaiah Crowell will have to do more than run the ball well to play extensively as a freshman, coach Mark Richt said. (Photo by The Ledger-Enquirer reprinted with permission)
THE TEN AT 10:
1. Georgia coach Mark Richt, speaking at a UGA Alumni Association event in Gainesville on Tuesday, reiterated that true freshman Isaiah Crowell will likely be a big part of the Bulldogs’ running game this season. But he also cautioned that Crowell will have to compete with Caleb King and the other tailbacks and that his ability to master pass protection would dictate how much he’s able to play.
“Backs have responsibility to protect on certain blitzes,” Richt said. “If one guy doesn’t know how to do it, he’s a liability at that moment. Can you turn and hand the guy the ball or toss it to him on a sweep or throw him a screen? You can do all those things and he doesn’t have to block anybody. But to constantly pull him in and out of the game every time you’re going to throw the ball with a six- or seven-man protection, you have to give the defense some credit, too. They’re going to know what’s going on or have a pretty good understanding. And when a rookie back is in the game, they’re going to test that. They’re going to bring pressure and see if they’ can pick it up.
“He has to learn that if he wants to be a full-time back. He’s got to.”
That said, Richt said that he’s confident in Crowell’s ability to run the football effectively at the SEC level. “That’s why we recruited him.”
2. Blocking in general is now of paramount concern after this week’s news that A.J. Harmon is leaving the program for “personal reasons.” The 6-foot-5, 320-pound junior was competing for the starting job at right tackle during spring practice. His departure leaves the Bulldogs perilously thin on the offensive front. They presently have only eight returning linemen heading into the summer and three of those aren’t healthy at the moment — Brent Benedict (knee), Austin Long (back/pectoral muscle) and Dallas Lee (respiratory problems).
Nor surprisingly, Richt said that offensive line will once again be a recruiting priority in 2012. The Bulldogs are already bringing in five linemen in this year’s class, six if you include long snapper Nathan Theus. Richt said they’d probably sign at least that many this year.
“I’d imagine we’ll sign at least five or six,” Richt said.
Georgia currently has extended offers to seven prospects, including five-star tackles John Theus of Jacksonville, Avery Young of Palm Beach Gardens and D.J. Humphries of Charlotte. More than likely they’ll have to bring in at least one or two junior college linemen as they are slated to have no senior linemen for 2012.
3. Georgia’s 9-4 win over Kennesaw State in baseball Tuesday night was just what the doctor ordered. The Diamond Dogs (27-26) led 9-0 through six innings in that game and were able to play for once without angst.
Now their entire season is on the line in a humongous, mega-colossal, three-game series against Vanderbilt, which starts Thursday night. The Commodores (42-8) are ranked No. 1 in at least one of the many college baseball polls and Georgia could only enhance its increasingly shaky NCAA resume by winning the series or, better yet, pulling off an unlikely sweep.
“We’ve got a shot and we’ve got to do something special this weekend,” coach David Perno told reporters after the Kennesaw game. “We needed a win tonight and we got it, although Kennesaw helped us a bit. It’s been a while since someone played poorly against us.”
On his postgame radio show, Perno urged Georgia fans to come out strong in support of the team Thursday night. The game is being televised by ESPNU as its SEC Game of the Week. First pitch is set for 7:30 p.m.
4. Georgia coach Mark Fox and his staff entertained basketball prospect Ryan Harrow in Athens on Tuesday. Harrow, a 6-1 point guard from Marietta, is seeking a transfer from N.C. State after playing at the ACC school as a freshman. He was spotted having lunch with Fox at a Longhorn’s restaurant Tuesday afternoon. Fox canceled a scheduled speaking engagement in Gainesville Tuesday evening to remain in Athens with Harrow and his mother. Assistant coach Kwanza Johnson filled in for Fox at the UGA Alumni Day function at the Gainesville Civic Center.
Harrow is taking a barnstorm tour of visits this week. He has already been to Kentucky, Louisville and Texas in addition to UGA and will visit St. John’s later this week before making a decision. Harrow averaged 9.3 points and 3.3 assists off the bench for the Wolfpack last season. He decided to leave after coach Sidney Lowe was fired a replaced by former Alabama coach Mark Gottfried. He will have to sit out next season per NCAA transfer rules. Harrow averaged 31 points per game as a senior at Walton High.
Should Harrow choose Georgia his timing would be ideal. The Bulldogs will lose starting guards Gerald Robinson and Dustin Ware to graduation after this season.
The Bulldogs are still actively recruiting at least two players in Harrow and Rockdale County’s Kevin Ware, a former Tennessee signee.
“The way our sport goes, you never know what you’re going to need in the spring,” Johnson said. “You may plan two classes out, but it never works out exactly how you think it’s going to. This is probably a little bit late to still be recruiting. But at the same time we had a unique situation with both Jeremy [Price] and Chris [Barnes] graduating and Trey [Thompkins] and Travis [Leslie] leaving for the NBA.”
5. One player that could help Fox’s Hounds immediately is Nick Marshall. A football signee out of Wilcox County, Richt said Tuesday the plan is still to allow the 6-foot-2 Marshall to play both football and basketball at Georgia. But, he added, that comes with conditions.
“When it’s a two-sport athlete, he has to be doing well academically,” Richt said. “We’ll have to help him through it. We’ll have to help him manage his time. Charlie Ward did it when I was at Florida State. But he redshirted that first year before he started playing basketball. It’s not easy, but it can be done.”
Marshall averaged 28 points per game as guard at Wilcox County. He was an all-state quarterback in high school but is expected to start off at defensive back for the Bulldogs.
6. Richt was asked again by a Gainesville reporter about the testy exchange he had with fan at a Bulldog Club stop in Macon last month. The man was critical of the Bulldogs’ offensive philosophies and assistant coaches and the normally-reserved and always-chaste Richt surprised a lot of people after he shot back, “I know what the hell I’m doing, OK.”
“It’s been publicized that I got on a guy about what he was asking, but even then we hugged at the end and it was fine,” Richt said Tuesday. “He just wanted to give his opinion and I wanted to let him know I was there. It wasn’t really that big of a deal, but that’s really the only time it has gotten a little testy. I appreciated the guy’s passion for his team and the program. I just wanted to let him know I’ve been doing it a long time and still know what I’m doing.”
Richt told the reporter he continues to be well received on his weekly jaunts across the state to speak.
“Everybody’s excited,” said Richt, who will be in Dalton on Thursday and Albany next week. “They’re excited about the football team and they want to hear about the recruiting class. It’s been very good.
7. I also ran into football signee Sterling Bailey and his parents at the Gainesville function. Bailey, an outside linebacker from East Hall, is way ahead of schedule in rehabilitating his right shoulder, which he had surgically repaired earlier this year. Bailey was also recently recognized with for a Senior Leadership Award at his high school graduation.
8. I’ve been kind of slow to get on this story but the Bulldogs have a chance to pull off a pretty magical two-for-one recruiting coup here in the late spring. Grayson linebacker/running back Denzel Nkemdiche ended up meeting freshman eligibility requirements recently. That means he will be able to sign with a school in 2011 instead attending junior college, as was originally planned.
What makes that significant is Nkemdiche’s “little brother,” rising junior Robert Nkemdiche, is the state’s No. 1-rated prospect for 2013 and has said in no uncertain terms he plans to attend the same school as his older brother. Denzel confirmed to me in an email that he visited Ole Miss on Tuesday and plans to check out Georgia this weekend and will likely sign with one of the two.
I’m supposed to talk to Denzel later today so I hope to file a full report soon thereafter. Meanwhile, let me add that, as a color commentator for WSB-TV’s Friday Sports Zone Game of the Week last fall, I got to see Denzel play live and on videotape and he is legitimate FBS prospect in his own right. But, playing last year as a sophomore in the state’s highest football classification, Robert is one of the most dominant defensive linemen I’ve seen in a long time.
9. For the second consecutive year, Georgia’s women’s basketball and men’s golf teams were recognized by the NCAA for being in the top 10 percent nationally in the multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) of all programs in their sport. The NCAA annually honors programs which rank among the nation’s top-10 percent covering their latest multiyear APR, which covers a four-year span. The men’s golf program earned a perfect 1000 for the years 2006-07 through 2009-10, while the women’s basketball program scored 995.
“This is a very special achievement for these two programs and we salute their outstanding efforts,” said Ted White, UGA’s director of student-athlete academic services. “Our coaches and student-athletes value the hard work and dedication it takes to excel, both in the classroom and in their sports.”
10. THIS & THAT: Hope you saw my report on Georgia letterman Jake Scott (1966-68) receiving his long past due selection into the College Football Hall of Fame. . . . It’s a huge week for Georgia’s spring sports teams as the men’s and women’s tennis teams land in Palo Alto, Calif., for the NCAA Championships, No. 1-ranked Marta Silva Zamora competes in the NCAA Championships in College Station, Texas; the men’s golf team tries to advance out of a west regional in Colorado, and the No. 6 seeded Lady Bulldogs’ softball team plays host for the NCAA Athens Regional, which will include FSU, Georgia State and UAB.

The loss of Ealey means additional reps for Crowell. Get him ready to go McLendon.
The loss of Ealey and Harmon means two additional scholarships (recruiting “opportunity”) to find two additional linemen. Go get ‘em Friend.
Pray for no major injuries along the O-line.

We have some pretty good blocking tide ends to help a thin line. Should be ok. Murray has wheels too. That will help. Our starting 5 oline are solid, we just need a few back ups that can fill in.

APR Rates are a really bad joke. For TEd White to hold the APR up as some great accomplish means that either Ted is stupid beyond words, or he knows he is a really bad liar.
The very fact that UGA’s APR is 2nd in the SEC, behind only Vandy,
is proof on ANY scale that UGA’s academics are a total joke.
Seriously. UGA, 2nd behind Vandy ???? Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.
What UGAs #2 APR ranking really means is how badly the academic requirements
have been dumd-downed to keep players eligibile.
Its why UGA invented the toilet-paper majors like “Housing”
of which over 50% of the football team is enrolled in.
But hey, if UGA wants to show pride in perpetuating a scam, then so be it.
But hey, at UGA, its the same as it ever was.

Chip, Dawg fans are now talking about true freshman helping the offensive line situation. Do they realize that Rivals rates this incoming class 9th in the Conference. Not the Country, THE CONFERENCE! Rivals knows what they’re talking about. A reasonable person, when looking at these rankings, would have good reason to question whether these athletes are even SEC caliber. But uga fans, with their continuous “DON”T CONFUSE US WITH FACTS” attitude, refuse to get it.

Gawdalmighty…………..after Richt JUST SAID that he has no problem having freshman RB (and how many more Frosh RB playing in the past 10 yrs does it take to convince you) carrying the ball, somebody still asked why he won’t?
Anybody blind to the idea of a RB having to pick up a blitz has obviously not seen very many football games. I can name 3 or 4 games off the top of my head where that issue either directly lost the game, or substantially put the momentum swinging the wrong way.

The loss of Harmon is very unfortunate. But at least UGA doesn’t stoop to using the perfectly legal tool of over-signing to manage and hedge against fairly common events such as academic ineligibility, bad-behavior dismissals, etc. To do so would be using a business model to achieve success, and Dawg fans would rather pretend that college football is not a business, but a moral calling. Oh, well. As the team continues to be weakened, Dawg fans can take refuge in their moral superiority. After all, it’s only a game.

Was Marcus Lattimore THAT dang smart that he was able to come in as a true freshman and pick up all the blocking schemes no problem??? CMON MAN!!! I know blocking is important, but we seem to make it rocket science at UGA!! With the enormous impact Lattimore had, I’m sure he missed a block every now and then. He probably would have been sitting behind Carlton Thomas on our depth chart because we weren’t sure he had picked up all the blocking schemes. PUT THE KID IN THE GAME AND LET HIM RUN THE DANG BALL. PERIOD.

If the kid can’t pass block he shouldn’t play but I think if he can prove he can against our DL and linebackers in fall camp he should be good to go. We are going to have to pass a good bit early to allow the OL to jell…you can’t rely on a OL just starting to play together to be dominant run blockers right off the bat vs Boise and USCe in the first two games. So if your back can;t pick up blitzers your QB won’t be able to effectively pass the ball.

So there are no guys in the #9 O-line class the conference (which is still pretty high nationally)? What rank exactly does it take? Would you play a Frosh from the 3rd best class? How about 6th? Never the 9th or 10th? Nobody in the #11th rivalstakeyourmoney.com best O-line class in the SEC can even think about contributing to a football team?
Ward and Danzler aren’t even SEC caliber players? Did Alabama know that when they offered to pay for thier education? every one of these guys had multiple offers from plenty of SEC teams.
BTW, I see them at #8, not #9. Does that substansially change everything. Kind of wondering how you compar 6 guys to 4 guys anyway. Not sure thats really an exact science.
Florida only signed 2 guys, which puts them “ranked” lower than UGA. Does that mean the guys they signed must really be bad? Not sure what race they are, before you ask.

Another day has arrived and still no word on Crowell and King.
Back to the questions I suggested yesterday:
If Richt offers a scholarship to a kid that he ALREADY KNOWS doesnt qualify, only to then route him into stupid school at GMC, thats grey-shirting.
The example I used was Lonnie Outlaw. Of course the ONLY reason Richt even
offered Outlaw was to land Nick Marshall.
See the AJC link here:
http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2010/02/03/georgia-adds-late-signee-in-wr-lonnie-outlaw/?cxntfid=blogs_recruiting.
Suppose Saban were to offer 40 scholarships, and then, after signing day, he routes 15 of those recruits to the nearest Alabama School for the Socially-Promoted Illiterate Youth of Alabama.
That would be the same thing as “grey-shirting” or “over-signing.”
That is exactly what Richt did with Lonnie Outlaw, and another recent UGA recruit out of Griffin.
The big question now is whether Crowell has to attend stupid school also.
So, when Richt says publicly that he thinks grey-shirting and over-signing is bad,
he’s a liar. He’s doing the same thing Saban and Nutt are doing.
In the old days, Bear Bryant would sign 35+ kids, and run-off the needed amount thru summer tryouts, and get back down to the scholarship limit. They even made a movie about it: The Junctions Boys. Bryant just took his Texas A&M “method” to Bama.
Richt is under no obligation to honor a scholarship offered to a kid who ends up at GMC or some other remedial education factory.
Richt is just another hypocrite. But hey, he works for UGA.

404, Outlaw did not put us over 85 scholarships, and when he had to enroll at GMC it left us with 83 on scholarship which is one of the reasons we could have 2 from the 2011 class enroll early. But since you’re probably a Techie I wouldn’t expect you to understand that.

If you’ve got a talent like Crowell and you’re going to keep him out of the game because he can’t block? That’s idiotic!!
You give him ball and keep giving it to him and let him go for 100 yards per game.
Rather than b*tch about his lack of blocking, CMR and his other brainiac coaches should design ways to compensate for that. It’s like another poster said, I doubt Hershell Walker or Marcus Lattimore would play in CMR’s offense.

@1eyedjack:
The undisputed fact remains: Richt offered a kid he KNEW was not eligible.
Outlaw will have to be at GMC for 2 full years. How is that even possible?
And just recenlty, Richt did it again by sending Chris Mayes from Griffin to GMC.
You see, UGA has “invented” their own version of grey-shirting & over-recruiting:
you can just call it “warehousing” but it is NO DIFFERENT than what Saban an Nutt are doing.

Blackberry Cobbler really with the OL issues we have do you really think we are going to be able right out of the chute be able to run the ball down everyone’s throats? With a freshman running back no less. And if you weren’t paying attention last year once SEC defenses got film on Lattimore his production went down. And yes he was beat up but that’s because the Visor couldn’t get enough of a passing attack to slack off the running game. Mr.Walker had a pretty good line to run behind and Mr.Walker was well Mr.Walker and we will see his kind no more.

Murray got us to 6-7 with a lousy defense, no AJ for 4 games(which we never got over) and a lousy running game.
We are 4-8 without him.
All he needs is a little help from the defense.
Of course, you also think Stafford is lousy too. He is going to prove you wrong on that too this year. Seen their d-line? It is sick.

404,
I call BS on your post.
Signing 40 knowing only 30 are going to be kept is oversigning.
Signing kids who KNOW they are going to be at UGA if they qualify academically is recruiting a kid who has the ability and potential to play at UGA. The kid in question has to get his academic house in order. Once he does so, he gets to play at UGA.
Saban signs 40 and plans to keep only 30 so he basically is “cutting” 10 players who have qualified academically to be at Bama.
I know you hate UGA but good lord son can’t you see the difference?

Why cobbler? Richt has played a number of True Frosh RB, as he will most likely this year. Why wouldn’t he have played Walker or Lattimore? Seems to me he has proven the exact opposite.
Walker is from a completely different time. Offenses AND defenses were not the same back then. Not even sure why a fan of the game would try to make those comparisons.
Now on Lattimore. Lattimore didn’t play every single down did he? Are you telling me he was in the game every down, even when SC was going to throw the ball? You sure about that? And maybe, he too had to actually learn how to block, did you ever consider that? I’m betting he did, and if you asked his coach he would echo what Richt said. (what he actually said , not the version you just make up)

Enough about Murray not having A.J. He had him against Colorado, Florida, Auburn, Central Fl. How did those games turnout? As for tideroll, you sound like a broken record. First of all DeBell was an Army All American, and played alot in that game, and you should worry about all the 3 star lineman that are on the bama O.l. Sheppard, Kellen Willams, Steen, the list goes on and on. Bama’s biggest weakness last year was their o.l., that’s why the heisman tropy winner and Richardson both saw their numbers drop as well as their yards per carry. Get your facts straight before you come on here and brag about bama’s wonderful o.l.

The Lions are trying on the Dside of the ball for sure. Stafford still has the UP-RIGHT to play the game. He also can’t have 19 Ints and 5 Fumbles. That is due in part to the O-Line. The Lions line will have to make sure Matt is still standing after every play even if the Defense is better.

You guys are at it again. My bad, You’re now telling me it’s good to have the 9th rated offensive line class in the conference (which is made up of the teams you actually compete against!) because it ranks high relative the rest of the teams in the country. Sounds like the reasoning of your Head Coach. The real problem with your lack of depth is not just the inability to wear opposing defenses down, it’s the failure to create competition for the starters. Their starting positions are not based on beating out the other guy because there is no other guy!! Bean Anderson may work out well for you,but he did not “win” the starting right tackle job. It was basically given to him because you’ve failed to develop adequate depth. The greatest motivation out there is the threat of losing your job. UGA, with it’s lack of foresight, has basically eliminated the most important element of college football: competition for starting positions. Only at UGA!! See ya, Wouldn’t want to be ya! Roll Tide!

There seems to be a consistent problem recruiting not only talented, but reliable OL that dates back to when Neil Callaway was the OL coach. Both he and Searels seemed to have the uncanny ability to find the guys that would either break down physically or mentally. Hopefully, Friend will change that. UGA has had problems retaining OL for quite a while now. None of the other top SEC schools have this problem to the extent UGA does (another reason the running game has been in the toilet for the past few years). This must be fixed in order to get back to the top. As a team, you’re only as good as the men you got in the trenches. What once looked to be a promising season is beginning to show signs of another grease fire.

The man JUST said, “that he’s confident in Crowell’s ability to run the football effectively at the SEC level. “That’s why we recruited him.”
Where in that do you read he isnt going to get the dang ball to prove it?????
The problem is that if Crowell is in the game, and he can’t pick up a blitz (not sure why folks are assuming he can’t or won’t learn to block) then Murray’s option of plays just got cut in half. Qb isnt going to check into something that going to get him killed. I’m sure that the “too predictable” folks are going to be very patient with that.

My point AltamhaDawg is that Crowell is probably only going to get 10-12 carries per games, maybe less, early on. I admit I could be wrong on that. What I am saying is put him back there to do just that, run the ball until he gets the blocking schemes down better. We keep hearing that Caleb King has the blocking schemes down pretty pat. Mix it up with Caleb running the ball and having him back there on passing downs as well. Certainly I feel Crowell is going to have to learn to block, but early on just get him in there to run the ball.

Despite what folks insist on forgetting, the play is not typically determined on the sideline. You can’t just say, Crowell is in, we are running every single play, I don’t care if they bring the house (in which case running would most likely not be a good thing to do) and leave 2 WRs with single coverage on the outside. He HAS to learn to block if he is going to be in the game more than sparingly.
Seems like that’s all Richt was saying. Nobody seems to disagree with that.

No, he doesn’t have to “start Crowell”. Ealey wasn’t going to “start” either. He will play Crowell. A bunch. Same as he played Ealey a bunch as a freshman, and several others.

I want to see Crowell on the field against the highest level of competition to see if he has what it takes at this level. Certainly don’t want to put him in a position to fail and get his mindset in a real funk. However, there are going to be downs we are going to run the ball. Hopefully, on an occasion or two, he can break one long.

Just like Ealey was.
And Crowell shouldn’t be allowed to PLAY until he can passblock.

RHALL55 @ 10:56,
The whole “late offer” thing is garbage. That, along with “not feeling the love” from a school is a load of crap from kids that don’t have the guts to just tell a fanbase that they didn’t want to go to your school. Raphael Kirby held his offer from Miami for less than a week before committing to them yesterday. These kids know where they want to go, and will commit to THAT school as long as they get an offer from them. Any kid who can be persuaded by a school by the “we were first” mentality is weak minded.

Richt HAS to start Crowell, since Ealey transferred, King can’t score (2 td’s in 2010).
You got to get points from your rb.
But that leaves vulnerable against a hit/season ending injury to Murray, if you call a pass while Crowell’s in.
Leave King in, and you don’t score.
Lose either way.

Is it just me that notice that Mark Richt didn’t say that Crowell was NOT going to play? In fact, he actually said the opposite in that he’s going to be a big part of the running game. All he said was that his ability to pass block will determine how much time he’s going to play. It seems to me that all he was saying is that he may not be in the game for every play.
I know some of you are already thinking that if he’s in the game, then opposing teams will know that it’s a running play. I think that the coaching staff is aware of this. There’s absolutely no way that Richt invested so much time in recruiting this kid that he’s not going to let him play as a freshman. This guy has the potential to change the game. Hence, that is why almost every team in the SEC attempted to sign him.
I too, would like to see better results on the scoreboard, but I’m having a difficult time in believing that anyone on this blog can do a better job or know more than what the coaches know. Otherwise, we would all be Div 1 coaches. People, Richt has not forgotten how to coach despite your beliefs.
Most of the games that were lost last year were the result of 1 or 2 bad plays that decided the outcome of the game. The sky is not falling. Just wait and I think that you maybe pleasantly surprised.

Lattimore is a special once in a decade kid. He played at Byrnes High School from the time he was in the 9th grade and they are a national school who has played teams from Glades to Evangel Christian on to schools from California and Ohio, as well with the top level and conference of SC football against the Gaffneys\Rock Hill\Summervilles of football. It is estimated that Lattimore played against over 120 elite college players during his time at Byrnes.
Crowell is a Caleb King\Ealey kid from mid-level Ga high school league, no comparison between the two kids and anyone expecting to see a polished kid such as Lattimore this fall are in for a severe disappointment.

If we have a run dominant team then I don’t know what teams would be able to do against us especially if we get that JYD defense back. For now – we need an effective running game and we will be fine.

Say, for example, one of your starting offensive lineman, who has a future in the NFL, decides that the future is more important than risking injury by putting forth maximum effort, and that, as a result, your offense suffers? What can you do? Your lack of depth precludes you from sitting the guy. This is the real danger caused by lack of depth, even moreso than injury.

With your “schools” low acadeamic standards you can just have any good football player come and play for your team. That’s not the way it is at UGA. At UGA you have to be a true student atheleate because the acadeamic levels are so high. You probably know that it is the hardes college to get into and stay in other than the Ivee League schools (Harvard, Yale, Georgetown, etc).
Remember, if we had as low acadeamic standards as you, we’d probably with the NC ever year!

Defense wins championships, Our offense will put enough points up to win. Our Defense is going to knock everyone in the mouth this season and beyond with the guys coming in and everyone really grasping the defense. Quarterbacks are going to be running for their life when they play us this season. Our offensive line is only going to get better playing against those guys in practice. Who is going to be nervous after having to go against two +350ibs monsters in practice!? Ask teams like TCU and boise state what their offensive line recruiting rankings are? Hell, Georgia has had seasons when our OL was suppose to be best in the country and it ended up resulting in nothing for us. You can take a 3 star 330ibs lineman teach him a few things and he turns into an instant 5 star player. Linemen are the easiest players to get better. Ward is a 3 star lineman coming in at freshmen this year, I guarantee you that ward is not a 3-star player…The kid will be turned into a 5 star player in no time that will be a great OL at Georgia. You can sit there and say we are thin at OL. They will get the Job done…There has been many seasons Georgia has had great years where we have not had a bunch of 5 star lineman playing. GO DAWGS! I do believe that Georgia’s receiving class is going to hold it’s own quite well especially with what they have coming in to Georgia this year. The offensive line just has to man-up and do what they are capable of doing and be a solid unit. There are a couple freshman offensive lineman that could be in the mix. It would really be nice if Nkemdiche signs with Georgia. I also hope Storm the running back from Miami ends up on the team.
I hope the linebacker (Conner) get’s playing time as he looked really good in the spring game. I believe Ray Drew is going to be a beast at DE .
Good Luck.

Actually Cam did make your team. Just like Tebow made the UF teams. Once in a lifetime player. Whether or not Cam got paid, it makes no difference as to what he did on the field. He was clearly a dominant player. Auburn won the title on the field with players that it recruited. As a dawg fan, it was nothing but impressive. I don’t like all the “cheaters” talk. Until there is actually evidence that anything was done wrong Auburn and Cam had one hell of a 2010 season. And yes I wish UGA could win one, sometime soon, at least in my life time, before I get too old to talk smack about it.

Second series (and all subsequent series of the game): Repeat first series.

@SSlgator…you are perhaps the most classless piece of work that shows up on these blogs…It amazes me, that regardless of the article or discussions, you bash anything with the dawgs program…Not sure why you feel the need, its not like the dawgs have been giving the gators a rivalary the past few years….Is there anything in you thoughts that you actually know how to put into words that bring anything to the table…I suspect you are just a little old man with nothing better to do but try and stir the pot…You do a pretty good job of that, have to give you credit there, but I do feel sorry for you and the anger you have towards UGA…Maybe some dawg fans need it but everyone should not be lumped into that boat..
I will add this however, many years ago, I took my daughter to Jax for the GA-Fla game and although the dawgs lost, my young daugther and I had things said to us that hurt her deeply…Why, because we were decked out in RED and Black…Of all the years playing ball and coaching, I have not seen anything that rivals that day…Fortunately for some gator fans, my daughter was with me, had that not been the case, it would not have been a pleasant adventure for them..but let me say this, I don’t think that because of a few classless fans, to put every gator fan in that class would be just wrong, so I don’t…My point think about what you say and avoid your attacks on dawg fans that don’t deserve your constant criticism of our program or our fans…I’m sure this will have little effect with you as I have read your posts many times, but I thought I would give it a shot anyway….good luck….go dawgs

I love talking smack with my buddy SSIgator even though he conveniently leaves out the fact that UF has REAL gangstas on their team. UGA’s players get in trouble for underaged drinking, driving w/ suspended DLs and such, while the mighty gators shoot AK-47s out of apt windows, fracture the face of a much smaller fellow student, send death threats via text (real smart) to a girlfriend they are physically abusing, sit around in empty parking lots at 2 am smoking weed, drive around town hammered with not one but two large bottles of booze, stealing credit cards from a roommates DEAD girlfriend, and steal our car back off the impound lot rather than pay the hardworking owner his $60 towing fee, I could go on but you get the point.
Anyway that’s why me and my new BFF SSIgator are here, we have no life other than ATTEMPTNG to rile up Dawg fans.

It the team is running a two back set…leave the fullback in to block and play action to the back then send him put into the flats. That way you still have the pass protections, you have play action and you put an outlet in the play in case of a breakdown. There are occasions to have a single back and there will be times he will block but that isn’t his job. Do you ask the center to run the ball? The fullback is the blocker on run and pass, use him that way.

I do have my head on straight my friend its you that does not
11-1 with a loss to FL will not get us to a national title, why because the coach’s and writers will say they can never beat FL
11-1 in 2002 with a loss to FL kept us out of the national title remember
So I guess every year we are to hope FL loses out to hope we go to an SEC championship like all of Richts SEC championship appearances
Thats loser thinking
I will Ohio State one thing after losing to Michigan every year for 10 years except once they finally woke up and got a coach that could beat their main rival and propel them to a BCS game almost every year

Kappa,
There is this little thing about a blitz. The RB, has to be able to block when he is not the primary go to man in that particular play. It is no different at any other school. Remember when Ealey decided not to block last year against Arkansas and Murray nearly got guillotined? Blocking is a fundamental part of being a RB as well. What would the RB do, if he is in a play, that doesn’t put the ball in his hands? Wouldn’t take defenses long to figure out how good that RB is going to be in that scheme and blitz the heck out of him. Fb’s also go out for some passes and the RB will be a decoy. Better even, what if the FB runs the ball?

@Flat tire on 985…Yes I will continue to support the dawgs, especially if we are 11-1…I believe as a georgia alum and former dawg, I have the right to support the team win or lose…Am I happy about the last two seasons…No…but i don’t choose to bash the program, especially Coach Richt and what he has done for UGA the past 10 years…Is our program where I would like it at this moment…No, probably not, but I know we have made changes in many areas and are making great efforts to turn things around…I think our last recruiting class is a result of some of the positive changes..If that is being a Kool-aid drinker, then lump me in there…What I do know is that regardless of what any of you think or write, Our Coach will be Mark Richt next season and I will support him fully as I have other coaches…If the results next season are not what is expected, then I will support our AD in whatever actions he feels is neccessary, but until then complaining on a blog or posting lies about our players, coaches or fans serves no purpose as I can see…
As far as SSlgator…I have no beef with you, I’m just trying to understand why your posts seem to be always filled with anger toward dawg fans and our team…No you are not the only one it’s rampent on both sides way too often…I actually enjoy the discussions on these blogs when they are meanningful and informative, but too often that is not the case…I actually enjoyed playing the game at a high level and enjoy sharing knowledge and info about the dawgs and other schools, but it’s becoming increasingly difficult to have civil discussions on these blogs, but maybe that’s where I don’t get it, maybe that is not the point with these articles…go dawgs

Im not asking Richt to be 8-2 against FL, 4-6 would be fine with me, but 2-8 come on
2-8 against FL yet more players in the NFL than FL
A losing record against top 10 teams
13-12 in the SEC EAST since 2006
30+ ARRESTS in 4 yrs
11 ARRESTS last yr
His SEC appearances are due to FL losing out and not beating them on the field
Lose to teams like 2 down Tenn teams that your blown away by
Put friendship ahead of the program in refusing to fire Martinez
Has lost 2 times to KY once to Vanderbilt in the last 5 yrs
I will support the team
As for coach Richt, he will have to earn my support,
After putting his friendship with Martinez ahead of the program, who I might also add was the reason VanGorder left and Richt didnt stand up for VanGorder,
and allowing all the arrests causing this program to become a Miami/FSU embarrassment sorry its uncalled for and Im tired of it
yet we make him a top 10 salary coach at $3million a year for these results

“And I want UGA to fail”,
you must be 3rd grade reading level if thats how you comprehend what I wrote, because Im tired of watching mediocrity on the field and yet UGA ranks 4th since 1999 in putting players in the NFL and we get the results that we have gotten
Obviously you want UGA to fail with your attitude or
You must drink a gallon of Kathryn’s kyptonite kool-aid
I dont know I guess we should ask
USC when they hired Pete Carrol
FL when they Spurrier or Meyer take your pick
AL and LSU when they hired Saban
Ohio State when they hired Tressel
AUB when they hired no-name Chizik
TCU when they hired Gary Patterson
Texas when they hired Mack Brown
Those are just a few programs that made coaching changes and you see the results
I didnt say fire Richt now but if the above of what I wrote continues he’s got to go and continuing to lose to FL especially this year with another new coach give me a break.

Thank you HunkerDAWG91 you made me laugh so hard I had to run to the bathroom to pee. Nice SPELLING of Student Athlete. I guess you were just an ATHLETE and not a Student.
UGA isn’t that hard to get into. It is a #s thing in Ga because of Hope. UGA is 86% white and 57% female. UGA athletes are not a bunch of rocket scientists for damn sure. Only Florida in the SEC is a member of the AAU and All or Most of the Big 10 schools are members.

Richt has to beat FL 2yrs in a row before I shut my mouth not once every 4 or 5 yrs due to a coach getting fired or a FL team that fields 80% FR sorry
and yes 11-1 with a loss to FL is still unexcusable they have a new coach and this seasons schedule is the easiest Ive seen in 30+ years of watching UGA football
but hey if you like this medocrity thats fine, then join me and lets go tell the new AD that we like the status quo but we dont like having to make donations for tickets or paying for parking
Im fed up with dropping $2000+ every year for a staff that pulls the crap they have done yet get raises while me the fan who love the team are asked to give huge amounts of my hard earned money to watch this crap
sorry something has to give either fans go back to just paying face value for tickets and free parking and this staff takes a %50 pay cut or else

Perhaps the latest movements out of Athens are due to Richt’s finally concluding that there is more to being a Bulldog football player than pure athleticism – - character, integrity, commitment. If these changes are Richt beginning to hold players accountable as men as well as players, Georgia’s team may be ready to compete again with other SEC schools that have recent BCS titles. Georgia has the talent. Now can the coaching take the stable of re-committed players to the promised land? Last year’s losing record was a wake-up call to perennial top-10 recruiting classes.

“ability to master pass protection would dictate how much he’s able to play”. Are you kidding? What are the chances that Trent Richardson, Marcus Lattimore, Jeff Demps, Knile Davis, or Vic Ballard will spend time on the bench because they might not be able to pass block? Look for Crowell to transfer after his second season, and end up across the line from us in the league. CMR would have benched H. Walker and G. Hurst. Can we get a new HC soon?

I’m surprised the Coach that knows what the hell he is doing still remembers Charlie Ward. Oh yeah that’s the same Charlie Ward that started out punting for FSU at Richt’s mentor, good ole boy Bobby Bowden’s request. It appears Bowden taught Richt very well how to coach. Didn’t Richt say he recruited Cam Newton, Nat’l Champ QB as a tight end at UGA. That would have been a waste of talent. Richt wasted three years of D.J. Shockley’s eligibility rotting on the bench. That waste of talent cost UGA a run at the National Title. And now he’s at it again trying to pressure a young Rb who hasn’t even suited up to learn how to block to support Bobo’s dink and and dump short yardage passing game of the gloved one A.Murray. The reason why Caleb King can block is because he can’t run the rock. Duh, Richt, Duh you don’t need Crowell to pass block out the gate, you need to put the best O-line together you can muster so he can run the ball effectively enough to help save your job. This recruiting class will be Richt’s last because he will finally be exposed once and for all as a head coach who does not get much production out of his coaches to coach players but relies strictly on the talents or lack of talent of the players just like his mentor Bowden, who blew more National title games at FSU against inferior well coached opponents than he won. UGA players are highly recruited and rated but the coaching staff can’t make a good player great because they don’t have the skills. They make good players look average during their stay at UGA and then the NFL drafts them high based on undeveloped potential. Coming up DawgNation 2011: another forgetable year at 7-6 or 8-5. I hope I’m wrong, but another loss to SC, Tenn, or UF, and good ole boy Richt is long gone & good riddance the game has passed him by anyway.

UGA is in trouble.
Either:
1) Crowell starts and can’t block and Murray gets injured and out for season
2) Caleb starts, and he rarely scores points, only 2 td’s in 2010.
The loss of Ealey’s 11 td’s is staggering at RB and richt’s mismanagement of Ealey will go down as the final straw that broke the camel’s back in Richt’s career at UGA.

Bart,
What does Crowell do if he is in the game and it is a passing play? Fold his arms and let his QB get crushed. When the RB is not the featured man on a play, he is expected to pick up a blitz, or at least slow down a DE that might break through the secondary. If he doesn’t have to block, then that usually frees him up as a safety valve if the wide outs are covered. What do you do if the play is an out pass to the FB. You block if you are the running back. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing, in football.

Richt never said “master”. That’s the hit generating AJV headline department’s wording. He said he can’t let a blitzer kill his starting QB by having a RB in every play for the entire game that cannot block in any situation at all. Appearantly some of you think if you close your eyes and pretend real hard, it won’t happen.
Not to mention ignoring having to run an addition play just to get BACK to the line of scrimmage from where that sack gets spotted.

Chris Lowe from ESPN in his blog, SEC Impact players made mention rather than Alshon Jeffery he would have selected IC for this. Look target all ya want but the fact is 2 True Freshman RB in the SEC had monster years last year. Now you get a team in UGA who unfortunately is looking for a #1 back that signs what many to believe to be the #1 back in the Nation, well your gonna get the juices flowing in Athens.

I don’t believe Richt will redshirt him though. He can’t afford to. Same with Lemay. If somebody on that roster can help now, they will play. Richt may not have another year to figure it out.
I also think as many as 10 true freshmen will play significant minutes during the season.

Murray gave up 25+ sacks in 2010 with an experienced backfield. And Murray only completed 55% of his passes, and went 0-6 against winning teams. With a QB that bad, you do need a good rb who can passblock and score. But UGA doesn’t have one.

Yes, Murray gave up the 25 sacks by holding onto the ball too long. Cox only gave up less than 10 sacks with the same o-line and backs. So the problem is clearly indecisive #11 Aaron Murray, who apprently, no o-lineman or rb can’t pass protect.
Murray needs 10 seconds of held blocks to complete a pass.

Murray was ranked #81 in pass accuracy vs. winning teams in 2010. When you have the #81 QB in the country against good teams, yes, you have a QB that’s indecisive, inaccurate, and when his record is 0-6 aganst winning teams, it really doesn’t matter who you have at running back, you’re going to lose every time.

Murray can’t read defenses well either. That’s why he holds on to the ball so long. 25 sacks means Murray’s sittign back there trying to read defenses, and then when you combine the 25 sacks, with the 81st accurate QB against winning teams, and his 0-6 reco0rd against winning teams, against, the porblem isn’t the running backs, it’s the QB.

Does that indicate that there is some kind of problem if its taking this long?
Or, is it just taking longer the expected to “fix” the problem?
It would be REALLY bad PR for UGA if King gets dropped.

404,
Several have said that he made his grades. No official word yet.
It would hurt from a depth standpoint but does anyone really expect greatness? I did for awhile but I have lowered my expectations considerably across the board given the fact that 10-12 true freshmen are going to be playing significant minutes including 2 in the defensive backfield, one on the OL, one at RB and one at OLB. I also expect Lemay to not be redshirted.
Richt is in “save your hide” mode. He must start out at least 1-1 or the ax is going to begin swinging so close to his head that he might not be able to avoid it.
10-2 gets him an extension
9-3 with one of the 9 being Florida keeps him employed
Anything less would probably mean losing his job.

It would actually make much more sense for Richt to send Crowell to stupid school for 1 year.
Not even red-shirt him. Just send him to GMC for 1 year. The kid might have talent but he’s a
real idiot. Maybe Crowell starts in 2012, one year older, one year “better.”
It would take all the pressure and expectations off Richt for 2011 and “set the table”
for UGA for 2012. Richt has lots of youth everywhere. Better to “keep your powder dry” for 2012 than to risk all in 2011 with so many question marks.
If Crowell starts behind a questionable O-Line, and cant produce, then Richt will really feel the heat.
I really dont think UGA will dump Richt after an uninspiring 2011. Probably would after an underachieving 2012.

I’m not sure the knock on Richt is that he can’t coach if given the talent and a limited area of responsibility. As a Head Coach, Administrator, Leader, he’s in over his head. His problem is IMO, poor planning, suspect organizational skills, i.e. he really doesn’t have any it appears, team building, motivation, discipline (he finally seems to be getting a little better), game planning. He uses vague language, has poor communication skills, lapses in judgement on multiple issues. Again, some of the things he says just shoot him in the foot. Now that’s cutting edge. Not fretting just opinions, which are based on real happenings. Other than that, and a 2-8 record vs UF I think he’s a great Head Coach. Just look where he’s led us. Here’s to hoping he can turn things around for Dawg Nation. Then unfortuately, most of us with common sense will give McGarity 90% of the credit.

But I can tell you, there was no better feeling that Dec 2002 and Dec 2005 in that GA Dome when we won the SEC. Richt was the coach and the first one broke a 20 year drought. That gets him time to fix things in my book but if he goes 6-6 or 7-5 again with this schedule, i will agree it is time for change.

But it would seem to make all kinds of sense to do it.
If Crowell cant produce behind a questionable O-Line,
then that increases the odds of against Richt.
Crowell got dinged up a lot in HS. Without a good O-Line,
Crowell will get hit more often and a lot harder.
I woudl be very surprised if Richt rolled the dice on Crowell, knowing that Crowell is an
18 year old fresh out of high school, trying to play D-1 RB, behind an O-Line with big uncertainties.
Its a high-stakes gamble with very bad odds for Richt.

I expect Caleb and Ken Malcome to get the bulk of the carries early in the year, I also have heard that Crowells coach held him out of games in which he could have played. From everyone I spoken with said Caleb had a good spring camp. Crowell will get playing time but not convinced he will get bulk of the carries unless there are injuries.

“Its a high-stakes gamble with very bad odds for Richt”. 404, that’s exactly the type of things Richt does that backfire on him and makes him look, well, simple minded and incapable. Why on earth would you put a Freshman in that position, put that much pressure on them. If that’s what it took to get IC then it lends to the intellectual side that we are indeed in trouble and scrambling.
Simply put Altamaha, CMR was and is in trouble, over his head, incapable of running the program on his own. McGarity steps in, sets the expectations for CMR, helps him develop a plan to hopefully turn things around. Do you think Nick Saban has to have the same type help running his program. If CMR turns things around who do you think deserves the most credit?
Yes, maybe the continued debate is counter productive, probably, but I love UGA football, always have, recently, the last 3 years the product has been terrible, and a couple years prior to that I saw the problems developing. I’m not a genius but I saw a Mark Richt more concerned with fellowship and friends than the University of Georgia and what he’s paid handsomely to maintain. If that’s me having common sense then that’s what I mean. Others just don’t seem to see it and are “blind loyalists”.
Thanks Lex, I know I’m not trolling, just being the “conservative radio talk show host”. I classify some of the blind loyalists as being “left wing liberal” like.

But what I don’t get is your example that in one case its obviously the copach doing the heaving lifting, but in another the coach cant really be credited for doing so. That’s really not a logical argument. I doubt very many people would but into the idea that if this team is better, Richt would not have been part of that.

First, everyone says the DC is a problem and he should be dismissed; Richt gets rid of him; Richt continues to get blasted. Secondly, everyone says the OL is and has been the problem for the last few years. The OL coach leaves and Richt still gets blasted. Now, as well as the last few years, everyone is calling for the OC’s head. I’m sure that if Richt gets rid of him; he will continue to get blasted. There was an earlier poster that said even if Richt goes 11-1 this season, but fails to beat UF, then he should be fired. You have got to be kidding me. IF all of these problems were indeed the cause for UGA’s slide since 2007, then do you expect that things will change so quickly when coaches are let go and new ones with different schemes are brought in? Has anyone ever heard of weathering the storm? Trust me, no one is happy about the last few seasons, but it seems funny to me that recruits seem to believe in Richt more so than grown men who have been following football longer than most of these kids have been alive. Hence, that’s why they continue to have recruiting classes that are ranked in the top 10 year after year. Do you not realize that 3 fumbles at bad times cost us 3 games? That’s not the coaches’ fault. Not to mention that a freshman qb started. The year before that, we had another qb by the name of Joe Cox that had very little playing experience. We lost a qb that was the #1 pick in the NFL draft a few years ago, along with a rb that was drafted in the first round as well during that very same year. They also had more season ending injuries to potential starters during that year than any of the teams that they played. There are no excuses for the off field issues, but sometimes you just have a string of bad luck and you have to work your way through it. Fellows, they will be okay and if not then who do you suppose they hire as a new HC? This is a serious questions so I sincerely hope that people respond with something of substance to offer and not just spit out superlatives.

You’re starting offensive line is good.
That’s never been the issue. The issue , beyond the effect of an injury or two, is: Can you keep them motivated when there is no competition for their position. The drop-off in talent from starter to reserve is incredible, and that includes your 9th rated offense line class (in the conference!) With the knowledge that Richt and Bobo had regarding pre-existing injuries and potential academic issues, there’s really no reason for your offensive line depth to be where it is. I’m not so sure that the reserves, even if healthy, are considered SEC caliber. And the sad thing is that this was the year to build a physical AND DEEP offensive line, especially to take advantage of Auburn’s personnel losses on their defesive line. Really no excuse for this.

Well Mobile Dawg, the name is definitely true. Has been for over 26 years. There is a difference between responsibility and accountability. That is a hallmark of Marine leadership. Let me explain…
If you’re in charge and you have people that work for you. If those people do not do the things that they’re responsible for taking care of, then they’re responsible.
As the overall person in charge, you’re accountable for their actions or lack thereof.
On good planning and organization…how do you plan for a player fumbling the ball, not once, not twice, but three times on the go ahead score?

That’s the 3 million dollor question. I don’t know who the replacement should be. You are the one calling for him to be fired. You don’t point out a problem without first offering a solution. Not a partial solution, but a complete solution. That solution should include the person that should replace him. I’m not trying to be a smarta$$, I’m just simply asking who should be his replacement. I’m not trying to start an argument. We both want UGA to be sucessful. I just think that hiring a new head coach is not always the answer. I agree with you that he has made some bad calls. There’s no argument in that. What I’m saying is that we don’t know all the external or internal facts that may or may not have been within his scope. What I’m saying, how do we know that he wasn’t asking for certain things from people above his head that he wasn’t getting. I suspect that is why the AD came out and made statement that would lead you to believe that indeed there could have been issues that contributed to these problems. Think about it…It just doesn’t make sense for things to just slide the way they have if there wasn’t something going on that we are not privy to.

CMR deserves the chance to turn around UGA this year. He has been a good coach and great leader most of the previous 10 years he has been the HC. If you expect to be on or near the top in the SEC or any other conference, year after year, then you are in the wrong sport. You had better hope that who ever manages that feat, doesn’t get caught paying the players, because that is about the only way, any team could stay on top for more than a few years without having a couple of years where things did not work so well, as planned. The years of year in and out dominance by one college team or a few of them, ended in my younger years and believe me, that was a while ago.

Who isnt? but don’t pretend you are going to spend the entire summer in here talking over and over ande over about something that already well documented, in some effort to save the rest of us from our our decisiton to just enjoy being a fan, and letting the coaching work itself out, which it will. Yoru mad about your team not winning and somebody elses did, your are because of very selfish reasons (which I completely understand). And as you state when they start winning, you are back on board. I realize you frame it as something more noble, but really its that simple.

As far as reality here it is:
Richt is going to be the coach. If you want the team to win, you MUST support him by definition, and if they win he will get a contract extention.
There really is no in between, Not and being a “Realist” about it.
You could claim to want to be wrong I suppose. You could spend the entire summer making one negative comment after another about the situation, while hoping non of that is correct. Do you really believe anyone is buying that? Even if so, what is the point of the exersize? Forget the name of the coach, how is that remotely why you are a fan of a game?
At the end of the season, THAT is when there is another window of opportunity to not support the current coach and still want what best for the team. Its completely counerproductive and completely self centered now.

BYRDDAWG: Auburn has a new QB coming in this year. He was the USA National offensive player of the year. Cam Newton only cost $200,000. This guy cost a half-million so he’ll whup the Dawgs worse than the 49-31 beatdown Cam put on ‘em. If you don’t like Auburn buying players, then prove it and the NCAA will step in.
I have it on good authority that Auburn offered Crowell and Drew 200k each. Everybody knows that. I want to know if UGA had to top Auburn’s offer or just equal it? Find out for us, we’d all like to know.

Made up my foot, It’s pretty simple to me, AND pretty well documented, he kept his “inept” coaching staff and “inept” coaching ways in tact way to long (because they were his friends), he put up with the tail wagging the dog from the players way to long, the result is the program we have now. Players not caring about showing up, getting whipped by UCF, little to no accountability.
The results speak for themselves, thing I don’t understand is why smart people like you (and many others) have continued to put up with it and still support him. I want his rear end on fire, he “deserves” that for his lack of performance. You’re right, I’m mad, I have contributed $$$ to this program, I currently don’t, I’m a bad fan. Not really, in my world you get what you pay for, if that’s selfish, that’s just your perception. I doubt seriously my comments are going to affect anyone’s opinion other than mine. I log on here once or twice a week to get the latest news, I read the same thing I’ve read for the last 5 years every time I come in here.
Alt, I have an inside source, aqquaintance, business relationship, whatever you want to call it, very close to the Dooley’s, Sabans, Bobo’s family. We have talked extensively about the program on occasion, about CMR’s Leadership, or lack of. It would be easy to question me, say I’m angry, venting, but I speak the truth. I’m one of those Type A’s who’s patience ran out with “Mark Richt” football. Of course I want to win, but winning isn’t everything. It’s how you represent yourself, and the University of Georgia on and off the field.

I will do my best to stay off of CMR and focus on football for a while. This is just one of my many passions Alt, I promise I’m not one of those bitter, self absorbed, tree poisioners. I’m seriously thinking of getting into politics, I have a hard time standing idly by when I see things deteriorating around me. Have a good week….

You might disagree that keeping his coaching on staff the summer they were one of the best team in the country is wrong. You could even argue that keeping his staff in tact after winning 10 games with as beat up of a team as I can remember in Georgia football history was wrong. But that is a disagreement about direction, or the importance of continuity. To suggest its well documented that it was strickly because it was freinds? What? Well documented by whom? People who say that in blogs? Pure opinion, and not very logical to me. That he more importance on one friend of a coach over the other coaches, also freinds, or his wife, his team, his own job. Self interest would be the OPPOSITE of what he puts up with to run things the way be believes it aught to be done. Hell the easiest thing in the world to do for a HC is to fire assistants. Lets say he was dead wrong. YThe part I beleive you are making up is that he is so becasue of putting his own needs about the needs of the program. And oyu know what, I don;t think you actually beleive that.
Factually: he has fired coaches, (and freinds if you insist that even comes into play) the very season that he report thinking it is the best interest of the company. Too long by somes standards, fine. But that is a completely differnt argument than , he knew he should, he knew it would be better for the program, but wouldnt (till fans screamed loud enough). I would also suggest that there has never been an assistant fired that wasnt kept “too long”. Otherwsise he would still have a job.

BUT I do agree, I way prefer to just talk football, and you can remind me of that when I do get caught up in these sidetracks of talking about the coach. Particularly since that is settled and really not even an issue till after the season.

Posted the other day on this but not showing up. The story Chip mentioned regarding recruiting of Denzel Nkemdiche has concluded with him selecting Ole Miss (story in the Gwinnett Daily Post night of 5/23.) Sure wish we could have pursued him more vigorously.
